Review 48h Pizza E Gnocchi Bar Elsternwick - Elsternwick

Stan Veloutsos
Was recommended this place by my Italian friend who said this was the best Pizza she had outside of her home town in Napoli. 😯 Well I definitely wasn't disappointed.👌🏼although this place was super busy, the manager created space for sitting inside. The staff were very friendly, and when asked for recommendations, took the time to explain and suggest some good options.🙏🏼 The pizza was indeed delicious. Perfect amount and generous toppings, super thin base with good quality ingredients. 😍You eat it and don't bloat or feel full. The gnocchi was fluffy and soft, the flavours reminded me of a perfectly home cooked meal my mother makes! The dessert was absolutely delicious, freshly made on the spot and just perfect to finish off the dinner. This place is 100% worth the visit. Thank you for a beautiful experience! Grazie!

Used to be a great ITALIAN restaurant and all the staff were ITALIANS and the food was to die for, but tonight we came back and after we placed our order the food and drinks arrived. Something wasn’t right, the Di Parma award winning pizza was tasteless, absolutely tasteless, my Italian wife tasted a slice and agreed, so what has changed?. We looked into the kitchen and saw that the two pizza makers were Indian not Italian and all the staff on the floor except for the manager were Australian not Italian. So we got an Indian pizza not an Italian pizza in an an Italian restaurant. If we go to an Indian restaurant we expect an Indian chef to be in the kitchen because they know how to make amazing Indian food. If I go to an Italian restaurant I expect to see an Italian chef in the kitchen not an Indian. Also why put a plank of wood across the pizza to put the prosciutto on it? Weird.

Love this pizza sooo much. In lockdown I survived on there delicious warm pizza. The Di Parma is the best. When dining it’s a very little sitting area so feels cozy and very Italian style.

If I could give 6 stars, I would. I must have walked past the amazing gem hundreds of times, without going in. I decided my birthday was the time for my first visit, and I was not disappointed. The staff, and who I gather are the owners or operators, were exceptionally attentive. I do not often have gnocchi, so it was a real treat eating what is probably the best in Melbourne, if not Australia. The open kitchen also allowed me to see unbelievable pizza after pizza being made. I know what I will be ordering when I visit again. I highly recommend visiting the Gnocchi Bar in Elsternwick!

Pizzas were great and they looked amazing, the crust fantastic. I had the Urieca pizza, was a little bit wet under the bottom center, although beautiful and delicious. Also had an Italian thick chocolate that was not thick at all, just powdered chocolate mixed with water. Staff was not very welcoming or attentive, might have been a busy day. Overall, for pizza lovers, it's definitely worth many visits.

Terrible unkind manager, feel really sorry for the waitress working last night. If you read this - please know you deserve to be spoken to better than that and don't put up with arrogant men power tripping and unreasonably telling you off! My partner and I came for dinner last night (7/7/22) and had a lovely waitress. She came outside and saw that the heater was positioned so it was burning a hole through the umbrella above. She immediately rectified the issue and moved it out of the way as it was causing a hazard. The manager came out, started telling off my partner and I for moving it (what?) and then started having a go at her in front of us and other customers. It was uncomfortable for the whole restaurant. This poor girl tried to defend herself and he rudely cut her off and kept going. She did the right thing! It was no way for a boss to treat their staff member. It was really horrible to watch and we felt so icky so we didn't order anything more and left.

Great atmosphere, excellent selection of delicious pizzas. Never gone wrong with their pasta specials either. Desserts are always lovely, though we often share as they are pretty rich! Heartily recommend

Great pizza - tried the gnocchi with wood fired tomato sauce wonderful

Underwhelming takeaway. The homemade truffle and mushroom pasta was too thick and chewy, and flavour not very interesting. And the pizza base was soggy towards the middle.

The vibe here is great and perfect for an intimate date! Lovely staff and great pizza, the gnocchi was nice although I had higher expectations considering the name! Overall, it was good experience! 👌

Best Salame pizza EVER!!! YUM

I visited 48h Pizza and Gnocchi Bar before the recent shutdown. I had been wanting to visit ever since I saw that they had vegan pizza. I ordered sottobosco and was super impressed. The cheese melted well which is uncommon for vegan cheese. Overall a good experience.

Amazing dinner today! We followed the suggestions of the staff in trying the special gnocchi and one of your pizzas and we came out satisfied, our first time and there will be certainly others!
Layla and Tom

New fav, just moved in the area we discovered this lovely gem. Authentic and traditional italian food served by first generation of italian staff. Gnocci were so tasty and literally melt in the mouth that we ordered a second portion! can't wait to go back!

Loved loved loved my Gnocchi Al Tartufo. perfect seasoning and the flavour of prochini mushrooms, truffle paste took me to heaven.

My sister tried the mushroom pasta the sauce was good but it has no seasoning( not even a pinch of salt). We added the salt ourselves and it tasted great.

Loved the service. Great white wines. Will be back for sure ❤️

Sat outside on a warm evening... friendly welcome, thoughtful advice on our choices. The menu says not to request changes to pizza toppings - and why would you? Trust the chefs here - sublime combinations that are perfectly presented. Famous pizza dough deserves its rep. Grazie mille! Worth every cent!

I visited 48H Pizza a little while back - but it is definitely memorable, and for all the right reasons. To this day, this is still the best pizza and pasta experience I've had in Melbourne and lucky for me, its only a 5min drive away.

I ordered the Burro Chiarificato which is a potato gnocchi served with butter sage and parmigano. The flavours were simply beautiful! It was unique to any other gnocchi that I've had previously. My partner ordered Di Parma which had the most soft, yet crispy on the outside dough which obviously they bake freshly in the oven for 48 hours. He rated it 5/5.

Service was friendly yet professional, and our meals came out quickly despite it being a busy Saturday night.

Keep up the great work!

At 48H Pizza & gnocchi Bar you know you will get tasty Italian food. Their pizza dough has been leavened for at least 48hr producing a fluffy and aromatic pizza base. Don’t forget to order some gnocchi, and with three different types (charcoal, potato, ricotta) it’s sure to suit everyone’s needs. Restaurant caters to GF, vegetarians and vegans.

This place is amazing! We live locally so come here all the time and always love it. The pizzas are so good, especially the Di Parma. The staff are so nice and friendly, every time we have been the service is always quick and easy. Highly recommend this place!
Dan
Had a lovely experience at both SE locations. The mushroom gnocchi is a religious experience. 😊🙌 The anchovy bread rocks!!!
Bel
Amazing service, so attentive and kind. The best vegan pizza I've had!!! New to the area and this is 1000% a place I will frequent.

We ordered Ubereats pizzas on Friday night. It’s my second time to have their pizzas never disappointed. If you like the authentic Italian pizza, please try it!

The place looks good and and service was fine but the food wasn’t good. Tried both pizza and pasta. Sauces on both the pasta dishes that I tried didn’t taste pleasant. The Gnocchi was past the point of being tender; it was mushy. The pizza wasn’t enjoyable. The crust was soggy and had a partially cooked dough flavour, and the cheese was mostly un-melted and cool when the pizza was served. Food was prepared as described so nothing was returned to the kitchen but was a total disappointment..

With a craving for some gnocchi on a Thursday evening, 48H Pizza & Gnocchi Bar was the place to be. We were promptly seated in the cozy and intimate restaurant, which was at full capacity on a weekday! (I think we got lucky there - maybe best to book!)

The menu boats antipasti, breads, THREE different varieties of gnocchi and of course pizza. Have a dietary requirement? Not to worry! Gluten free and vegan diners have an array of menu options to choose from :)

We ordered two dishes of the Gnocchi con Carbone Vegetale variety of gnocchi (potato, activated charcoal and gluten free flour). The first - Trevigiana (Gorgonzola, radicchio, vin cotto) was tangy, creamy and deliciously soft, and the second - Al Pesto (basil, mint, broccolini, walnuts, grana padano) was just as comforting and moorish! YUM!!! I was already planning my return visit after my first bite!

Overall, if you want addictively moorish gnocchi in a cozy atmosphere with friendly Italian service. This is the place to be!!!! Go go go!

Food was good but enjoyment completely overshadowed by small servings and exorbitant prices. Make sure you check your receipt they charge for things you never had.

Delicious pizza, vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff... what is not to love about 48h pizza and gnocchi bar 😍😍😍 I’d highly recommend and would love to be back here soon 😀

For the ratings this restaurant had, I was excited to try it, especially due to all the vegan options on the menu (one of my friends is a vegan). I unfortunately did not have the best experience.

I had a booking at 7pm, and I understand that this is peak time for service, but the space felt so cramped with the number of tables in the small space. I did like the Italian features on the wall, including tomato sauces and pasta from Italy, which made the restaurant feel more authentic.

The food was very up and down
Vegano: The ratio of bread to cheese on this dish was very off, with a massive bowl of melted cheese and barely any bread to go with it. I didn't taste any herb flavour in this dish.
Di Parma: This pizza was very tasty. I did enjoy the pizza crust which was thin and cooked well. The toppings of prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato & rocket all worked well together.
Sorrentina: This gnocchi dish wasn't a pleasant eat. The gnocchi was soft, almost like baby food. The sauce was nice.
Chips: The chips were crispy and light. The home-made mayonnaise it was served with was nice and creamy
Sottobosco: I did not try any of this pizza

The service was very slow. We waited over an hour by the time all of our food came out, as not all the dishes came together. It took around 35-40 minutes for the majority of our dishes to come out. The Vegano dish came out well after we had finished all of the other dishes (30 minutes later), and by that point the table did not want to eat it. As I was siting right opposite the pass, I watched many take-away orders come out of the kitchen before our food. I understand that take-away orders are under time pressure, but I believe that customers who are coming in and ordering a meal should not be pushed to the side either. The waiter did apologise for the wait at the end. However, if there was going to be a wait, I would have appreciated communication about it at the start, rather than telling me the meal is coming when I ask, and it arriving at the table a significant amount of time later.

We have just relocated to this area and I was excited to find post move at the classic a fabulous genuine Italian eatery. 24h is slow rise dough. It’s so much more digestible and chewy and flavoursome. The pizza was exceptional. I ordered the gnocchi with tomato black garlic and anchovies. It did not disappoint. Prompt and friendly service completed the evening. I will be a regular.

This place brought me back to my childhood when mum used to make homemade gnocchi for everyone! The gnocchi were surprisingly so light and soft; they would just melt in your mouth. I then read the menu and they stated that they use gluten free flour to make them that light! The sauce was incredible also, truffle base sauce with porcini mushrooms and home made sausage! The truffle taste was very overpowering (you’ve been warned) but for me that’s perfect!

Now the pizza... wow... fluffy dough ; quality ingredients and full of flavour. I only had a slice but I fell in love. Such a tremendous celebration of quality pizza!

The restaurant isn’t huge and a bit squashy and noisy; but the staff were well on top of everything despite only having two waitresses on!!

I’m so glad I got to try this place, my colleagues and I are already planning our next visit!!

Food: 5/5
Service: 5/5
Ambience: 4.5/5
Eating Around Town
We came to dine at this restaurant on a Sunday night at 6pm. We were 4 adults and 4 kids(5-9yrs old).
Even though there was a table for 8 available we were told we needed to wait. Naturally we assumed the table was booked. We waited for 20 minutes outside in the bitter cold and then sat down at a table for 6 that became available. I immediately ordered a pizza for my kids so that food came out quickly for them while we took our time deciding what the adults would eat. The rest of the order was placed 15 minutes later, so around 6:35. 30 minutes later we asked the waitress if the food was coming... she went to check and said there was pressure on the kitchen but promised the food wasn't far off.. At 7:20, that's an hour after we placed our order, we asked again if our food was coming as it had been way too long and the kids were hungry and frankly so were we. We also asked to speak to the manager. The manager didn't come to speak to us until she arrived with the food at our table around 7:35... that's crazy.. and not only that, she was completely rude and condescending which left a very bad taste in our mouth despite the fact the food was really good..... She didn't even apologise for the wait, she said everyone in the restaurant had to wait this long which was BS as we could see people being served and eating around us. Anyhow they could have offered us some bread, some dips anything to make sure we ate something and not sat there with hungry kids for an hour and a half.
It was very upsetting to be spoken to in that way after waiting almost an hour and a half for food....
Oh, and the craziest part was? remember that table for 8 that was empty at 6pm when we arrived? well it was still empty until 7:30.... so I don't really know why we couldn't have been seated in it when we arrived...

The cheese board is amazing. I’d like a wine and cheese night here. However, I don’t really like the gnocchi. My Italian friend has been telling me that the gnocchi from here is quite authentic so it might just be a matter of opinion.
The service is great!
Melissa Phu
Ordered the ragu gnocchi and Di Parma pizza!
Both were delicious, the texture of the gnocchi was on point and the flavours really elevated the dish. A bit salty for my liking but definitely a simple meal done well.
The Di Parma was also a great dish, a popular one according to the waitress serving us.

Although the prosciutto was pretty salty, the rocket and buffalo cheese on top were amazing. Personally love the thin base of the pizza, gave it an authentic Italian vibe to the dish.
Seriously delicious pizza and pasta! It's a must visit if you're in the area. Service is average but the food well and truly makes up for it.

I went there for my birthday dinner. All my guests and I were blown away by the amazing food we had. Fabio and Michele were amazing with their food suggestions. The Prosecco was soooo good too. This hidden gem is a must for Italian food lovers...

I was really looking forward to eating here.
Gnocchi is many favourite so coming here I thought I would be in heaven.
I ordered the gnocchi fungi and the sauce had a funny odor. I thought ok, it must be the type of mushroom but it just didn’t taste right. The gnocchi was over cooked which really surprised me. No salt, no flavour, a little disappointing. I mentioned it to the staff but it wasn’t reciprocated well.
It’s a shame cause I was really looking forward to it.
Next time.....maybe.
April_eats
Nice woodfired pizzas. Pretty pricey though. Ordered ubereats and they came still hot. Crusts were a little bit burnt. The mozzarella was very fresh and ham and pepperoni were tasty!

I've been here twice now, including for my birthday last night and both times were excellent. Great menu with something for everyone - interesting options for vegetarians/vegans with more variety in dishes than most Italian restaurants provide. Pizzas have good quantities of high quality ingredients with tasty bases and gnocchi is also high quality. The service was good and the restaurant seating is comfortable outside and inside, but wasn't noisy despite being quite full, which is a big plus. We will be back for sure.

Beautiful staff, amazing decor, incredible food. The serving sizes are enormous and the flavours are subtle and masterful. Definitely coming back here again and again!!!

4.5
On this delightfully warm day we sat outside under the shade. We started with an Italian mole zero cola (for the driver) and the refreshing 48 hour spritz with the fragrant passionfruit hit.

We ordered the Anchovy bread as a starter and we were surprised that came in a pizza shape. I absolutely loved this dish, it looked so simple but was so full of flavour. I especially enjoyed using the crust to mop up the excess sauce from the gnocchi too.

There are a plethora of gnocchi dishes to choose from and we chose the Pecorino. I have only ever seen this dish on cooking channels and have been dying to try it. Traditionally this is dish is served in Rome and only to locals. 48 hour pizza e gnocchi bar normally served this with a dark gnocchi, unfortunately for us it was so popular yesterday they had sold out. I loved the performance of the rich tomato sauce and gnocchi being tossed and stirred in the wheel of pecorino, and combination of flavours was divine with the super soft gnocchi.

We also ordered the Tropea pizza, this thin based pizza was topped with home made nduja sausage, hot salami and olives, it had a great level of heat and a fabulous texture.

For dessert we ordered the sorbetto, this organic lemon granita was delicious and super refreshing, a nice light way to finish of the meal.

We also shared gnocco alla Nutella, this mini calzone style pocket was divine, and really on the Face of it, not so mini! The Nutella was rich and oozy and was perfect with the dough and vanilla ice cream. Sublime!
Georgia Tappy
I'd heard really great things about 48H but we left disappointed. The funghi gnocchi we ordered was almost inedible; it tasted like dirt. The calzone was not much better. It was soggy, with very little cheese and an over abundance of ham.
The service was lovely, and very friendly. We'd love to return but night have to wait a while.
To good pizza luv it and the service is slow and the price must be little bit cheaper otherwise staff is good cant wait to come again and the best thing was near to my grandma house

A cosy Italian Styled restaurant. A bit tricky on finding a park but the service here was exceptional 5/5 on service alone. A great menu with some Authentic dishes listed with some good drinks to complement. Very creative and conscious of allergies. Loved tbe addition of Activated Charcoal! The Gnocchi itself was really well done but the sauces didn't quite hit the mark.
VinoVeritas
I always try the restaurant from the Wine list

Amazing Italian selection with bottle shop licence... yes you can buy bottles to bring with you at home with bottle shop discount price 😍.

Barolo Cannubi is on the list
Bellavista Teatro 🎭 alla scala too

A big selection of wine from Piedmont

Ps: house red and house white are actually doc Italian wine...

Pizza and gnocchi are the perfect pairing with the wine they sell.

Back soon!!!
TuttoilRestoèNoia
staff really attentive
the best gnocchi I ever had
big selection of Pizza... Amazing dough
highly recommended.
I can't wait to back to try more from the menu.
a lot of GF option and Vegan.
Richard O
An hour wait for takeaway pizza's after being told it would be 20 minutes is not acceptable! One pizza quite clearly had been sitting out of the pizza oven for a long time whilst the other was fresh out of the oven. The one fresh out of the oven was good the other was absolutely horrendous.
Traveller123890
I came here with my family and my flatmate on Tuesday, we loved it! We felt the Italian atmosphere! The service was GREAT! Shoutout to the new Italian girl and the 2 Italian guys on the floor/bar! Great customer service! The food was sensational! Check this place out!! Ci vediamo presto!
Felicia Lonel
Hands down one of my absolute favourite restaurants!
Been here 3 times now and ordered something different each time, every dish has been excellent.
Gnocchi is light and fluffy and never leaves you with that bloated feeling, the only thing I would say is that the portion sizes could be a little bigger (but then again, I would definitely end up eating too much is that were the case!)
Absolutely incredible food.

Pictured is the Gnocchi special
Sig
Food was ok nothing out of this world
Most of the table ordered Gnocchi which looked soggy and was a very small serve ,
Wait staff were very arrogant and full of attitude, not enjoyable
Who Loves Good Food
Cozy little place dishing out amazing pizzas & gnocchis. Their gnocchis are next level! Best we’ve ever had, not sure how they compare to those in Italy though. Only complaint is that we’ve overdone it. Despite checking with the waiter if we’ve over ordered, he said we’re alright. There is a fine line between enjoying your meal & feeling sick from overeating, sadly we crossed that. Would have been great otherwise....
Hannahlen1
The first time I came here just after it opened it was great. I had an antipasto platter full of lots of different things including various salads. My partner had scrumptious gnocchi. Second visit I had gnocchi which were undercooked. I thought it might just be a bad day but third time I came the antipasto choices were minimal and gnocchi still undercooked. Sorry guys, you’ve lost me.
RunnyYolko
This restaurant was buzzing on a Tuesday night with wonderfully warm and friendly atmosphere aswell close quarter seating which gave a classic Italian vibe.
After having a look through the menu 3 choices stood out, the 48H chips, gnocchi with tomato and basil sauce (add olives) and the tropea pizza.
We were surprised to see the size of the chips which included super thick cut large fries and a side of salad. They were enjoyable however personally were a little on the big size with little flavour to make them memorable. The tropea pizza was superb with a lovely base and great ratio of ingredients.
The gnocchi was also wonderful and the staff were very kind in agreeing to add olives to my dish.
This was a lovely Italian restaurant which made you feel warm and excited to come back for more meals. Molto Buono 👌

We called in for pizzas after seeing a movie. I won't be back.
Thin and soggy bases. Lightweight in every meaning of the word. (except the prices)
The Hunger Trail
Food: 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5
The difference is in the dough and at 48 Hrs Pizza and Gnocchi Bar the difference between good pizza and great pizza is very telling. Not only was the base fluffy it was also light to eat. We chose the Di Parma which came with toppings of buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto and rocket. The ragu gnocchi was also enjoyable however the pizza was the standout. We shared both options and found ourselves pleasantly full by the end of the night.

Service: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Staff were friendly, attentive and just absolutely fantastic. Food came quickly with generous toppings of chilli sauce and parmesan as requested.

Price: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Fairly well priced for the quality and portion sizes served.

(🌟🌟🌟🌟.5 overall)

What can I say about the sister restaurant of 48H South Yarra, it did not disappoint that’s forsure!!
I’m a regular of 48H South Yarra so I thought I would change it up a bit and venture out to Elsternwick, the restaurant was pumping full house on a Saturday night!
It was amazing, love their style and of course the food was exceptional
I could not fault anything, the service the food the ambience fantastic loved it
Definitely will be back as they have a great outdoor area so this will be my place to go to on those warm summer nights

“Good Experience”
Yesterday I went for a dinner with my family. It was the first time for me in this restaurant. Even if it was busy the waiters found a spot for us in a short time. We share some pizzas and gnocchi. The pizza was perfectly cooked and the freshness of the products is absolutely the TOP! And the waiters looked after us all the time. I will come back soon!!!
Suburb Review
Got pick up from this place as I've heard great reviews about their pizzas. Firstly service was great and the restaurant was quite busy.
Pizza taste was authentic and toppings were great. Only downside was the base ... it was wayyyy tooo thiinnnnnn ... like paper thin!! Well almost. If it was one centimeter thicker it would be much better.
Mum Of A 2-year Old
Nice venue and yummy food but not great with little kids. Kids menu doesn’t exist and smaller meals are charged way more than they should ($16 for a kids margherita pizza). Disappointing...

We ordered delivery and the food was over an hour late but also stone cold! We were really unimpressed with this service and will not be eating from here again.

Wonderful food, great service, I almost felt like I was in Italy. Excellent prices, fresh, exciting and wonderful cocktails. The Pizza was a little soggy in the middle but honestly no big deal, was still delicious. I’ll be back.
DamoForce Food
We went here for a night of pizza. We love woodfired pizza and 48h do deliver a great pizza. The crusts are great but sometime the bases being soggy. But we walked away pretty happy,

This cute little restaurant/deli is tucked away just after the classic cinema and was a great place to come to before a movie.
My brother and I had a margarita pizza each and dad had a mushroom gnocchi.
The pizzas were thin based and nice and fresh with some basil leaves on top.
Service was quick and friendly, and they also sell some produce so you can buy bags of dried pasta and a few other things.
Nice night out with the family.

The best gnocchi and pizza we have ever had!! Can’t recommend this place enough, amazing service, amazing food and great atmosphere. Love the Italian feel of the restaurant and we can’t wait to be back.

love this place! i come here often (and to 48h south yarra), a few times a month (dedication - i live over half an hour away!) i always get a different pizza every time because yum, and often get gnocchi takeaway to have to lunch at work the next day! soo delicious. also - can’t write a review on this place without mentioning the mare nostrom (obviously - i said the same thing for 48h south yarra!!!) - seriously, it’s possibly my favorite dish of all time.. its incredible!!! yum, i’ll be back there asap 🤤😍🤗

I have been in this cosy and nice Italian restaurant with my girlfriend about few days ago and sure we will come back soon! Nice and attentive wait staff, very good selection of wines from every Italian region and good imported ingredients makes this restaurant one of my favour. Desserts are amazing!
Alice
The food was great! Had the Gamberi pizza and it was one of the best i ever had. And my friend had the activated charcoal gnocchi and it was just delish! Really good choice of wine and very helpful staff. Definitely coming back!
Mia Tua
Fantastico! Absolutely superb! Real, authentic Italian cuisine, simple but not too rustic. All ingredients are very fresh and mostly in season. Antipasti are delicious, I suggest the 48h antipasti for a nice chef selection. Gnocchi and pastas all sound and look great, but if you love gnocchi make sure you try the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. Pizzas are soooo good. Will definitely be back, highly recommended!

The food at 48h is always delicious food and the service is alway wonderful, an authentic Italian experience.
The pizza never disappoints and the Mare Nostrum is a must!

Gorgeous little restaurant with wonderful attentive staff. Food is outstanding, fresh, tasty 😍 cannot wait to come back and try more off their menu 👍
2wo Fat Girls
A popular Italian restaurant with two branches, in Elsternwick and South Yarra – the Elsternwick branch also features a lunch menu. Not only do they feature finely sourced ingredients straight from the land of pasta and pizza itself, you’re also able to buy them fresh for home cooking! One must come to enjoy this restaurant for the quality of produce, handmade decadence and heartiness of traditional Italian food.
The Judge
First time dining at 48h Elsternwick and it won't be the last.

Decided to pop in on Tuesday night for a pre film bite (saw i Tonya, which was enjoyed) and we opted for the Alla Bava and Allo Scoglio with a nice cleansing glass of red. My dish was the Scoglio which was effectively a Gnocchi Marinara, I enjoyed it but all the seafood was probably was a little bit ambitious for gnocchi and my partner's Bava was described as lacking a little bit of depth.

I loved the cafe/deli style fit out with fresh produce available for purchase and the staff were helpful and authentic. The extensive range of dishes makes me excited to come back another time prior to my weekly Tuesday night film. I think the next visit will see me order the Agnello.
Melbourne Culinary
48H Pizza & Gnocchi bar are a popular Italian restaurant located on Malvern Road close to one of Melbourne's most well known dining districts, Chapel Street. The name 48H comes from how long they leave the pizza dough to sit and rise, as the owners believe that pizza dough should be left for a minimum of 48 hours, although most of the time they leave it for even longer, around 72 hours.
Gastrology
48h treats patrons with an authentic Italian culinary experience - Expect to be welcomed with fervour whilst you sample artisanal specialties from Italy that are enhanced with the finest quality local ingredients. The name 48h derives from the best practice of producing real pizza by making sure the dough has been leavened for 48 hours. At 48h, 48 hours is the minimum time required for the dough to rise. A dough that has been leavened for 48 hours with natural yeast produces an exquisite pizza base which is light, fragrant and wonderfully aromatic.
FOOD TRIP
48H Pizza and Gnocchi bar is a cosy little eatery serving up some of the best Italian cuisine I’ve ever had. Their name comes from the way their cook their delicious pizzas. They let the dough sit and rise for a minimum of 48 hours. This creates a much lighter base for a crispier texture and allows for easier digestion.

I am not a big fan of the look of this restaurant but thats personal taste. Service is good and waiters attentive. Good choice of pastas and gnocchi. I tried their charcoal gnocchi whcih has a greyish black color and was pretty good. Not sure if it was different from normal gnocchi other than the color. From memory I tried their burro gnocchi which comes with butter sage and parmigian cheese. The flavours were spot on but a little too much cheese. You won't eat half of it. For dessert I ordered panacotta. it was light flavoursome and citrus. Loved it. A decent itlaian restaurant in my neighbourhood. I will return for pizzas next time.
Dine And Dash
I came here with a friend for dinner. I hadn’t been here before but the place had been recommended to me.We were both greeted by two friendly staff and were shown to our table. The customer service was impeccable, I was really impressed. They recommended dishes off the menu and knew how to provide top-class service. The decor of the restaurant was very warm and welcoming albeit in a rather small setting.I ordered the Margherita pizza which was nice and big. The pizza’s crust was fluffy and crusty however I found the centre of the pizza to be a bit too thin and a little too oily. I was quite satisfied afterwards which is always good and the price of the food was reasonable too.I most likely will be back to try a pasta dish or something else.

When I hear Italian food I immediately think of pizzas, pastas, comfort food and basically awesome sauce food. So when I heard about 48h Pizza and Gnocchi Bar has opened in Elsternwick, I was oh so pumped to check them out. Located right next to the train station, it was easy to get to with loads of parking along the side streets. Walking into the eatery, you get a sensory overload and there is so many things going on whilst the lovely staff greets you, you just stumble along to your table.

Good Food Good Mood
Wow. Thank you 48H for inviting us to experience such an authentic Italian feast. From the moment we stepped inside we felt as though we could actually be on vacation in Italy, from the staff with their Italian accents who could be heard shouting out orders in their native tongue to the freshly imported ingredients including many delicious cheeses in particular the stellar air freighted mozzarella which arrives within three days direct from Italian shores. This all contributed to an unbelievable atmosphere and a really special experience.

We started the meal with the recommended Mare Nostrum which was a rustic blend of Mediterranean cheeses with wild herbs baked with a fresh bread crust. Hearty and rich, the cheese was absolutely spellbinding but the bread was equally exceptional- a perfect example of how simple works best. Just delicious and something I wouldn’t have thought of ordering myself but would now thoroughly recommend.

For mains we decided to share the gourmet 1889 pizza with tomato, basil and buffalo mozzarella, an absolute Italian classic and extremely well executed. The pizza had a super superior crust to the one I had regretted eating only the day before. This is how a wood fired pizza should be. We also had the gnocchi special which was a mix of the regular and charcoal gnocchi with prawns and a goats cheese and saffron sauce. Something a bit different and absolutely phenomenal.

The gnocchi were little pillows of perfection. Just stunning. We washed this all down with a selection of wine, Italian champagne and delightful cocktails. The cocktails were fantastic; well balanced and not too sweet but super refreshing. I loved the gin based one with strawberries and the passion fruit mojito, both great for a warm night.

At this point we were utterly bursting but I firmly believe no Italian dinner is complete without a touch of Nutella so we ordered the gnoccho alla Nutella with vanilla ice cream which contained a supremely generous amount of Nutella so much so that even I, the Nutella connoisseur couldn’t finish it all. Some yummy cheese served with Manuka honey rounded out the perfect evening.

Hats off to the chefs for showcasing their heritage with this amazing produce, the food was immensely enjoyable and pretty much faultless traditional Italian. Don’t forget to finish off with a limoncello, salute!

48h serves decent Italian food. Don’t go starving though because we experienced more than a 45 minute wait on food. The Gorgonzola charcoal gnocchi was super tasty though came out quite room temperature. The pizzas are great and quite generous on toppings though the gourmet pizzas seem quite pricey- 28$ for a tuna pizza. It’s nice to have more places opening in the Elsternwick area however we won’t be rushing back

Loved it here!! My sister and I came for lunch and right from when we entered, we felt like such valued customers. The staff were all incredibly friendly, and genuinely seemed to be enjoying their work. They were all Italian too, which made the place feel like a little part of Italy. A lot of the starters were imported from Italy, and we couldn't get enough of the buffalo mozzarella!! For mains we shared a pizza and a charcoal gnocchi, both were insanely tasty! The crust on the pizza was to die for, seriously couldn't stop eating it. And the gnocchi melted in our mouths. I have already told people about the food, and I will definitely bring people back here again!

My sister and I came here for lunch as we had been wanting to try the South Yarra restaurant but it was closed during the day - best decision as this would have to be the best lunch I've had in months. Everything about the experience was fantastic - lovely atmosphere with all the staff speaking Italian to one another and treating us very well, absolutely mouth watering food, and wine that the waiter picked for us which matched the food we had ordered perfectly (we even ended up buying a bottle to take home). We splashed out and got the antipasto entree, the special of the day charcoal gnocchi option, the Di Palma prosciutto pizza and a cheese platter for dessert. The gnocchi was so full of flavour and melt-in-the-mouth, and the pizza was delicious with a pillowy crust I could eat as a meal on its own. The only downside was that the antipasto was heavy on seafood which I am not a huge fan of, but that was an upside for my sister and I know would be for many others. The lunch menu is shorter than the dinner, but I'm sure we'll be back with friends to try some more of the menu in the future.

We joked that this place was only open for 48h's and thought we would check out the menu. Turns out they prove their dough for 48h's and even though I couldn't try it (my partner said it was delicious) there was plenty I could sample. All the gnocchi was gluten free and they had a large range of mouth watering deli meats and cheeses. The authenticity of 48h couldn't be over looked and the Italian wine also hit the spot.

Good Italian style pizza with a delicious thin crust. The gnocchi was ok - a bit doughy/chewy for my liking. Service was excellent but I found the restaurant (which is quite small) to be a bit cramped. Update. Came back and had the most amazing pizza with delicate fluffy mozzarella and delicious prosciutto.

A nice modern yet cosy addition to Elsternwick. AUTHENTIC Italian. Spacious. Food was good portions and at a good price. The pizza was a very large size.
Whats On The Grill?
Great little Italian restaurant. Nice warm atmospheric restaurant that almost feels like it doubles up as a deli. Predominantly pizza & gnocchi. I had a gnocchi with chives & mushrooms which was silky & tasty. Wines ordered were also great and service of a high level.
