Stumbled upon this cafe and Been here a few times with my daughter- we usually do a quick drop in and have a gingerbread biscuit, pistachio cupcake and coffee. The cupcake is moist & delicious and not very sweet which I really like. Coffee is super velvety and strong flavoured. Today we ate in for brunch, hubby had their big breakfast and they were happy to make alterations to it. He thought it was very tasty, a good portion and he doesn’t usually love mushrooms but thought these were flavourful. I had the chilli scrambled eggs which was awesome. Our daughter loves the crumpets- we like that lots of things like the bread and crumpets are made from organic ingredients, meat & small goods are locally sourced and they have homemade hash browns too. Everything was cooked with care and flavoursome. The scrambled eggs were a beautiful texture. Reasonably priced for the food and produce you are getting. It’s also relaxed enough to be kid friendly, staff are good with kids and there’s a small outdoor courtyard too. Highly recommend

Wow!! This cafe doesn’t look overly modern from the outside but the food is absolutely delicious! Sandwiches are so nice & big & great value. The chilli scrambled eggs are incredible! Up there with the best I’ve had! Their coffee is also well made. I would recommend for a brunch or a lunch.. you can also book which makes life easy!
This little cafe definitely has a huge heart. Living in the area I decided it was time to try this cafe out for myself knowing that it's a favorite among the locals. I decided to order the roasted spiced pumpkin dish which was warm and ever so tasty. Additionally sitting by the window it was gorgeous once the sun poured in. As a small cafe it can get very loud inside but once you taste the food you will know for yourself why the locals keep coming back.

This little cafe, to be honest, doesn’t look like the most spectacular cafe around l, at first glance, but sit down, order your food and then be the judge.
I ordered the pumpkin and cauliflower dish and my friend ordered the cured salmon.
The food was amazing! Beautifully cooked, well presented and the flavours were amazing! I can’t say enough about the dishes we were served.
The coffee was good also, no complaints there at all.
The staff are lovely, but may need to smile a little more. The energy of the cafe is dictated by the staff.

We are on holiday from South Africa and have just enjoyed our first breakfast out. I had the corn beef hash browns with a spicy hollandaise sauce and I t was absolutely sublime. My hubby had the chili scrambled eggs with mushrooms, which were also very good. We had heard so much about the coffee in Melbourne and our cappuccino’s well surpassed all expectations. All in all, a fantastic experience.
The pistachio hot cakes were possibly the best pancakes I’ve ever had. Incredibly filling (shared with one other person), and each flavor component on the plate brings on an entirely unique element to the dish. The pistachio in the pancake itself isn’t very evident, but it’s just so good that it really doesn’t matter.
PLUS! Free refills on their cold brew! Can’t get any better than that.

Cute, understated, local place for good coffee - and as great as Elsternwick is for food, there's not that many places with decent coffee.
I'm pretty picky with my coffee, so when I tell my friends about cafes in Elsternwick, this place is on my list.
The most lovely staff, always so warm and welcoming, clearly love kids. Coffee is great. Food is amazing, original and a step up from other places in the area. I feel so lucky this is our local cafe.
Does the basics so well! Food was awesome and the chef was extremely accommodating to dietary requirements, extremely appreciated. Had the mushrooms with a few changes to make the dish vegan and it was perfect in taste and presentation. Great coffee as well as service being prompt, friendly and happy to help answer questions. Only criticism would be the interior feels slightly cold, that being said the outdoor courtyard is super cute!

Great service, good coffee and delicious brunch options. Perfect for a lazy Sunday morning. It can get very busy on the weekends, if you have a big group I recommend booking.

I was tempted not to review this little gem and keep it to myself but they deserve the qudos. They offer a great breakfast with an interesting choice of dishes, fresh, tasty food, generous servings and efficient and friendly staff. We enjoyed the porridge as well as the usual staples like avo toast and scrambled eggs.

Tasty filling dish with amazing fritter definitely one of the best! The vibe was amazing and the staff were friendly and service was great. The dish was lacking salsa as only a little bit was provided and not enough for the dish.

Next of Kin, located on Glenhuntly road is a gorgeous ‘no frills’ café- they are true to themselves and what they do they do great! Friendly, attentive and accommodating, it is refreshing to visit a café that are in it for the passion and love as opposed to the competitive Melbourne market. We ordered the chilli scrambled eggs and hot smoked salmon, both dishes were generous in serving and a great combination of flavours and elements. The hot smoked salmon was definitely a winner with the pumpkin hummus perfectly complimenting the cauliflower and broccolini. Our chai latte came beautifully presented and we loved the shot of honey on the side (as opposed to having to ask for it). To finish we shared pancakes (of course!) We ordered the school holiday special- snickers pancakes however the regular menu pancakes also looked incredible!! They were very generous in serving and some of the fluffiest pancakes weve had in a while. We guarantee you that a visit to Next of Kin will neither disappoint nor leave you unsatisfied.
Fantastic! Inhaled these pancakes last week, they were delicious. I couldn't finish them though as you can see it's a very healthy portion. Coffee was good and the staff were friendly too 👍
I haven't been to this place in ages but as it is nearby and I was craving a porridge I decided to give it a go. The porridge was mindblowingly amazing! Such a yummy combination of flavours I was very pleasantly surprised! I will definately be back and am eager to try some of the other food on the menu :)
Went for a coffee and ended up having these gorgeous Pistachio Hotcakes with berries and crumble.. YUM! They were also really nice to my friend that has a few allergies and wanted just sides. Will have to come back to get more delicious food.

Ticks all the boxes which is why I give this cafe a 5 rating. Service was very tentative, like that you could talk easily without being too noisy even though all tables were filled, creative but tasty food combinations that you would never think would work but do, very beautifully presented food and great coffee. Will be back to try what my friend had.

Next of Kin has been around for a little while - it's got a nice clean lined aesthetic with a good mix of options. I've re-found my love for fried eggs after an overseas trip. Next of Kin's fried eggs were perfection - those yolks were runny rich bliss! The hash brown was caramelised and crunchy with the lovely soft give of well cooked potato inside. And hallelujah for bacon with a decent amount of fat left to render and go crisp! Food was great and I love that I was left to slowly eat my brunch and read my book in peace with no pressure!
The team are always so friendly. Coffee is delicious. The food is fresh and clean. I love the Avo smash the radish and heirloom tomatoes make it! We will be back.

Didn't have high hope coming into this cafe as the menu didn't look that tempting. I was very presently surprised. I had a warm welcome and sat quickly with my bubs and given a high chair. Ordered long black which was 10/10 but still not a bad taste. Ordered the hot salmon which the waitress also recommend. I was soooo happy with this. Amazing portion size and full of flavours with variety on the plate. Food was so quick considering they had two large parties there. I was surprised how everyone's food came out within about 10mins of ordering!!!! This is a cafe that I will be returning back to. This is a totally crowd pleaser for all taste buds

Our favourite local cafe. Beautiful and consistent coffee, and the food is amazing. Love the Hot Smoked Salmon and the Fritters, and always love the specials they put on. The presentation is stunning and the service is friendly.

Next of Kin is a very artsy, modern style cafe in Elsternwick on Glen Huntly Road. They have a wide variety of options on the menu perfect for breakfast or brunch. The staff were friendly, but need to pay more attention to orders and customers. The food was delicious and fresh, the portion sizes were good. The menu prices were a tad expensive but you would expect it, I mean we are in Elsternwick.
TIP: Do order the Nutty Smoothie- super tasty! Don't forget to order the Black Forest Pancakes.
Another place in my ole hood. I liked this place because crumpets. They were awesome. Nice little cafe next to the art supply shop. It was closed for a while and suddenly opened again with the awkward name. Very busy on Saturday morning. Arrive at the wrong time and your waiting on the art classes/dancing crowd to evaporate so you can get a coffee.
Nice little cafe, friendly service. We shared a big breakfast, it was lovely, every element was cooked to near perfection! The breakfast wrap was such good value, can be for two. Love their generous portions.

This is the second time I've visited here and I was craving the snickers hotcakes. I was dismayed when I looked at the menu and it was gone, replaced by the black Forrest hotcakes. I approached apprehensively and discussed my situation with the waitress who promised me they were good. So I went with her recommendation and right she was. When they first arrived I thought they were a bit small and was also used to the giant ones served at the like of Tall Timber. By the time I finished the dish I was more than satisfied. Fantastic combinations of berries, cream, compote and ice cream. Delicious.
It's nice to see something good happening around the corner of Kooyong Rd and Glenhuntly Rd. And Next of Kin is clearly one of them. I am there on weekday lunch and it is packed....good sign right? We try the "Zucchini salad", the "Beetroot cured salmon" and the "Hot cakes". Our group love them all. Coffee is great and service is lovely. Everything is simply put together in my humble opinion and that is why I do recommend this gorgeous cafe for you all.
I came in for a small coffee which was, quite frankly; magnificent. Taste-splosion for my mouth. I picked up a chocolate chip cookie as well. I'm going to get fat if they're always this good.

From the brains behind Cafe Gaia comes this fabulous addition to an area of Glenhuntly Road which was been desperately seeking an injection of a modern cafe or two for some time. The smashed avo + feta was delicious and the crunch of the cucumber and radish was a great texture accompaniment. Also had a side of the cured salmon gravalax - the best I've had in a long time! (Although for $7 I felt that the portion served was a little on the small side)Coffee was smooth and silky and service came with a cherry smile. A little on the exy side but I don't mind paying for a quality meal. Will definitely be back!

Just visited my new local cafe for brunch. So many delicious choices on the menu! I decided on the Seasonal Greens and Acai smoothie, which were both delicious! The bacon was crisply cooked to perfection! I can also recommend the Big Brekkie & banana milkshake, both really yummy! Can't wait to return...

Prana Chai Tea Latte - $4.50. This is the best chai tea I have had. The consistency was betweena chai latte and normal tea, which made for a creamy cupbut wasn't too bloating on the stomach.
Great coffee, yum deserts and really friendly staff. It's a good place to sit and do work, I'll bring my laptop there and write. Plenty of space and a welcoming atmosphere!
We had Sunday brunch here. Very fine food with excellent quality produce. Very inventive breakfast menu which is a great change from the usual breakfast fare. Coffee was good but not outstanding.

A lovely little child friendly cafe. Staff were very helpful and cheerful. We only had drinks and cakes this time - the croissant style muffins are amazing and my son loved the gingerbread lady. Menu looked great so we will definitely be back soon.
Lovely new cafe in a quieter end of the neighbourhood. The interior is very clean and comfortable. Have been here twice (with short waits) and enjoyed the food and amazingly friendly service both times. Their signature cured ocean trout dish is getting simpler and simpler as time goes on though, which is a shame because it used to be visually stunning. Overall, that dish and the spicy lamb tacos are both highly recommended!
Love this place. Couldn't ask for much more in a great new local. The service is ace - it makes such a difference when the same crew is always on and that they recognise regulars after only a couple of visits. Their big breakfast is the best i've ever had (although I wish it still had kale!) and the almond milk co lattes are spot on. Lovely fit out and sunny back deck.

Really new and really well designed, this cafe is nestled amongst a stretch of shops along Glenhuntly Rd, just before the Kooyong intersection. Next door are older shop fronts which stoically remained shut on a Sunday. It's definitely the new kid on the block, but it is in a good location, and has already built up a following. It's strategically located in the middle of a high dense residential area, and just beyond the hectic stretch of Glenhuntly Rd, which means that there is ample street parking nearby. Otherwise, there is always the trusty tram route 67 which stops almost at its doorstep. Inside, the cafe has been decorated in a pretty cool kind of way with plenty of white space to showcase a bold clash between black and blue, bolstered the slightly edgy copper / bronze feature pieces. I was quite taken with the menu, and especially the drinks. So much that I ordered three different drinks to make up my liquid breakfast.
Great for brunch. We had a great brunch! Menu items were quite different to other brunchy spots but all delicious and creative in presentation. I thoroughly recommend the crumpets, this spot seems to getting a good reputation for this menu item. Loved the décor as well. I will be back!

Lazy afternoon coffee..... Wandered in looking for the MSA & ordered coffee @ this place. They use Proud Mary and the barista Leigh (?) hand delivered my take-away coffee. I went out the back and ordered poached eggs on multigrain toast with avocado. Really good food and the barista served me a really good batch of Ethiopian batch on the house. I thoroughly enjoyed this place and will definitely return here!

From the man behind Cafe Gaia, you can find Next of Kin nestled snuggly down Glenhuntly Road in leafy Elsternwick. Inside, Next of Kin is light and bright, featuring lofty benches (sponge finger walls I like to call them) contrasted with rustic geometric chairs, a living wall of native climbing plants and decorative copper bowl light fixtures. A great space with thoughtful decor. The menu here offers more than your usual drill. Sure you always have the option to order eggs your way, but don't stop there. Think Spiced Lamb Shoulder Tacos with spicy chipotle mayo, manchego, purple cabbage, coriander and lime. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, I'm sure the Herby Braised Mushrooms with baked polenta, goats curd, oozy fried egg, preserved lemon, hazelnuts and sorrel will do the trick. Skinny Flat White Cured Ocean Trout My dish was sensational - crispy, velvety, rich, sweet and fresh all on one plate. The cured ocean trout was cooked beautifully, partnering well with sweet potato croquettes and avocado puree. I was particularly impressed with the inclusion of beetroot, in not just one way but three - pickled, poached and beetroot pearls. Two of us had smashed avocado and fetta on seed toast with different eggs.
The plate was perfectly portioned, balanced, flavourful, beautifully presented and everything was cooked to perfection.
The coffee was also great and the interior and decor is nice, warm, clean and comfortable. Everything you want in a great Cafe. They have clearly put a lot of thought into every detail at this place. We will definitely be back again.

Lovely little cafe with a great menu. I was able to get a table right away on a Wednesday morning (with room to accommodate a pram). I had the NOK breakfast which was excellent, plus a pot of tea and a chai. My friend had the zucchini corn fritters, which were also delicious. Good size portions and quality produce. Service was excellent, fast and very friendly. Great location just down from the busy part of Elsternwick, so easy to get parking out front.

I always come here after my work to get coffee and cake. The staff are good and they serve good coffees. My favorite dessert is the cake with coconut and raspberries, they're delicious and I've never had anything like. I highly recommend it to everyone to try. Their iced coffee is also good, I'm having it at the moment with a chocolate brownie, a good reward for a hard days work. The location is good though there's not much parking especially on the weekend but there's always side streets that you can find to park your car. The place is nice though it's a bit small but there's an outdoor seating with 6 chairs and 3 tables. There's also some seats at the back if you don't want to see people passing by. Over all, I highly recommend this place for coffee lovers.
Strong Large Soy Milk Latte: perfect!
The foam on top blends in perfectly with the coffee, without creating weird clumps of curdled milk... Then the drink becomes soft and dense :)

Chilli Scrambled eggs with Roasted Mushrooms: perfect, again!
These guys put so much flavor on this dish that I almost order another one :) It might be the pesto they add in between eggs!
For sure, they are very generous with the chilli hehe
Don't get me wrong! I loved it, but next time I might get it a bit less spicy :)
