Consistently good Thai food from this place. Ordered the green chicken, red duck and massaman curries. All very good and nicely spiced to medium. Highly recommend.
Ordered takeaway through Menulog as they offered free delivery & 10% off for new customers. Fast delivery, yummy food, fresh and still hot. Recommended!
I definently love this place !!!! It absolutely suits my 5 start rating. ❤❤❤❤❤

Lastly, this chicken basil is so simple but it was yummy dish with jasmine rice !!!
Service (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)
Very friendly service suit casual dining. I love jazz song and ambient. It looks like I have dinner at home cooked by my mom.
Overview
I will definitely come back to this place. There is a happy hour for stir fry dish as well. The price is reasonable with taste and portion.
We visited this restaurant which was very close to a train line which made getting too very simple! Inside is a very humble and family owned Authentic Thai restaurant where the food is orchestrated by the mother of the family. We were greeted by a kind gentlemen who offered us water and drinks on arrival.
We were provided a set menu with an array of different Thai dishes. Our entree was the Garden wrap and parcel barramundi. Both light, and full of flavour. Then main were the Yellow Lamb Shank Curry, Pud Thai (the most popular item they offer) and Kana Moo Krob (Chinese broccoli and lightly deep fried pork spareribs). Dessert was your traditional Mango and sticky rice (not my thing, but still nice to try different cultures desserts), and my fav Banana fritters with Coconut icecream!
I would recommend visiting the lovely venue when you have time this year, it’s all MCG free, locally sourced ingredients and made with passion!
I have walked past Khun Thai many times and from the outside it doesn't look like anything special but we decided to give it a try and oh my gosh am I glad we did! My husband and I were honestly blown away, the food was outstanding, every bite was full of flavour, we couldn't get enough! This is the best Thai we have ever had and we will definitely be back and will be telling all of our friends. The staff were super friendly and plus it's BYO!
Went there in a group without a reservation and the staff quickly got us a table. We ordered the wings, green curry, coconut rice, pad kee mao and some fried rice too. Winner was the noodles drenched in all its lovely basil chilli goodness. Reasonably priced and byo too. The green curry too was good, only the wings was a bit odd and not worth it. Definitely will return.
Amazing seafood hot plate so yummy and full of flavour
And my favourite chicken satay sticks with the best satay sauce and the pork was cooked perfectly very friendly staff and charming chefs
Blown away by the excellent food here. Our group of 3 was a bit undecided about what to order and the staff were so helpful in assisting us with choosing a great array of dishes. We are every morsel, the whole crispy fish was the highlight for us. Will most definitely be adopting this as a regular spot.
Very friendly service. Reasonable price. We'll definitely be back again to try more dishes. The recommoned things to order are Panang curry, Elsty beef hot plate, Garden wrap
Amazing food!!! Had tom yum soup, fried spare pork ribs and steamed prawns on curry and all of them, though a bit salty for my liking, were so flavoursome, fragrant and perfectly cooked!! Can't wait to come back again for other dishes!
We had Pad thai, pork spring rolls and BbQ chicken. The pork spring rolls were average. Not that tasty. The Pad Thai was amazing though, it was rich in peanut flavour, it is not just typical peanut, soy sauce and lemon taste and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Highly recommended. The chicken BBq was very tasty. There was a special coconut after taste on it which is perfectly blended with the taste of BBq. I would definitely go back to this place to try the rest of the menu.
Ordered spring rolls, crunchy , and fresh . It was pretty good but not outstanding
The pad Thai and BBQ chicken was delicious
I would recommend this To friends
It was clean , service was good, food come out quickly and was presented well
Decided to go to Kuhn Thai as they make a very bold statement on their window - "Best Tom Yum in Melbourne".
I've seen that it's usually busy, but, when we got there, there was one table available, so we got seated straight away and got given water and menus.
We ordered a Chicken Tom Yum, a Chicken Pud Thai, and a Steamed Barramundi in Coconut Milk Red Curry + Rice.
Where do I start...
The Tom Yum was absolutely fantastic - packed with flavour, filled with lots of chicken. They just had it right - that soup was amazing.
My steamed Barramundi was out of this world - I haven't had such a tasty seafood dish in a long time! And it was a huge serving - I couldn't finish it. That coconut red curry was simply divine and it complemented the perfectly-cooked fish really well. I will still try their other ways of cooking the fish (there are around 5-6 options available). Most impressively... this dish is $22 (rice excluded), which is an incredible value for money.
The Pud Thai came a bit later, as per our request. Once again - the consistency of the noodles was great - slightly al dente (often, Pud Thai can be over-cooked), and it was packing so much flavour. It was even presented very nicely.
Overall, after trying out a few Thai joints on Glen Huntly, this is, by far, the very best one of them all and I couldn't recommend it higher.
The reason I didn't give it full 5 stars is simply because the interior leaves a lot to be desired, but you simply forget that once you try their food.
I can't wait to get back for more.
Wow what a find!! Red duck curry amazing..one of the best we have had in a long time.
The desserts are now something I will crave for weeks to come. Would highly recommend anything with the coconut ice cream
I've been to Khun Thai a couple of times and always found the staff to be very accommodating of vegan versions of their dishes (as stated on their menu). The food is always very tasty and incredibly affordable! If you have 4 or more people in your group, I highly recommend booking in advance as there are limited tables. Fast becoming a favourite!
The best Asian take out / restaurant in the area. Food arrives on time, hot, and delicious. Highly recommend the pork ribs, curries, and, if you're eating in, the whole snapper.
Nice place, feels very homely. Friendly family run place. Been coming here for a years, the best Thai place in the area! Extensive menu, everything is always pleasant and very well priced. will be back
This has become our local Thai place. Quality ingredients, good tasting food and uniques specials with friendly service. Some meals do lack in taste or sauce but overall its good.
I really rate this restaurant - understated but great quality food that's nice and tasty. Been here over 10 times with many more to come!
Make sure you get a wave and smile from the chef on the way out 😊
We ate in here last Friday night and then got delivery in Saturday because I was that smitten. Delicious FRESH homemade Thai. They take pride in their food and the service is great too. When we ate in had slow cooked pork leg, so tender and rich delicious flavour with Chinese broccoli. The spring rolls and buffalo wings I recommend too! Delivery I had satay chicken and enjoyed the flavour and crisp delicious veggies!
The entree garden wrap is delightfully refreshing, the quality of the freshest ingredients and the Kick from the coriander and jalapeño(?) dressing are a match made in heaven.
Mains were pork spare rib with sautéed bok choy and a sizzling beef bbq hot plate. Everything was presented and cooked perfectly. Highlight for me was the high crispy factor of the pork spare rib, an absolute party in my mouth.
Usually one to save room for dessert I unfortunately (but mostly fortunately) enjoyed the mains too much I couldn't even share a dessert with my partner. Will be back next Sunday with desserts on my mind ❤️❤️
Hi my name is Corey. And I'm addicted to Khun Thai
I first tried Khun Thai with a friend, on the weekend.
It was fun and exciting. "Where's the harm in trying something new!"
After that, I found myself craving Khun Thai
Earlier n earlier in the week.
Now. I go and have Khun Thai alone.
Hi Corey
Great authentic thai restaurant. A great spot on the busy Glen Huntly Road. Tried the beef basil stirfry.
Find me lon Instagram: @melbourne_explorer.
Cracking food and service at Khun Thai.
This is my go to for Tom Yum soup.
Get the big Tom Yum - it's epic and they can do Vegan/Vegetarian too.
Curries are on point and Betel leaf wraps are some of the tastiest authentic finger food i have had.
If you like chilli - this place is for you but they will happily tone back the heat of your a wuss.
I really like the bloke that runs this place. His attention to detail is phenomenal.
Keep it up.
Local go-to for genuine, spicy Thai cuisine without the msg's. Chilli beef stir fry (hot), green chicken curry, pad Thai and a small rice satisfies regularly. I like that the flavour is fresh and not dulled like most takeaways in Melbourne and the fact that I hardly seem to get a reaction is a grateful bonus. Interior is a bit tired and hot - don't let that deter - we prefer to take away and look forward to accompany it with a nice bottle of rose at home
If you love spicy food you'll love this place. Tom Yum is amazing - I order Thai hot as I like eye-watering spiciness. The roti is perfect, as are the curries.
We've eaten in and ordered take away many times - always quick and friendly service.
We want to try other Thai places nearby, but why go anywhere else and risk the disappointment?
Very good service and food, and easy to ring and order home delivery. When you order hot, they are not frightened to serve "hot". Always an enjoyable meal.

Have only tried pad thai and Green curry (twice as they are so delicious). Food is tasty and fresh, and also very reasonably priced. The roti and peanut sauce is also great!
Authentic thai....delicious. I will always have a chicken pad thai when at a thai restaurant, and this one was one of the best.
We also had the chilli beef and the waiter said "hot is really hot, or you can have mild". We opted for hot and it was as the waiter said " really hot". Which was great as we like good chilli.
Food tasted fresh and authentic. The coconut rice actually had coconut cream through it which was a nice change. Did not get that msg feeling afterwards which is great.
The service was calm and friendly, cant fault anything from the many experiences we have had.
We asked for the Green Chicken Curry to be as hot as the waitress herself would normally have it. It was hot, authentic like I haven't had at a Thai restaurant, either in Melbourne or in Thailand, for too long. Excellent - look fwd to returning,
Good authentic Thai food. If you are tired of all the same Thai food that you get in all Thai restaurant, go to Kuhn Thai. Thai food with a difference. We had the steamed snapper and slow cooked pork and were happy with the food.
Coffee And Food Enthusiast.
+4.5
Think I just found my new local. The roti wasn't oily, the currys were packed with veggies and meat, the rice was fluffy. Keep it up and you'l have an on going customer :)

Closest you'll get to the real thing in Melbourne.. It's not the best Thai in Australia but it is probably the best Thai I've had in Melbourne. My mum is Thai and it got her stamp of approval so that's got to stand for something. Gai Yaang is the best. Phad Thai and green chicken curry are to die for. Love the fact that they don't hold back on the chilli if you ask for it to be hot. Staff are nice too. Only thing I would change is the decor - a little reno wouldn't go astray but still totally worth it.
This was my second visit to Khun Thai. The Larb Gai and Nuer Num Tok were among the best I've had. The slow cooked pork was also excellent! Beautiful flavours, "Thai hot" option for those who want it and not a hint of the sugary Australianised dishes that are so prevalent. I'll be back.
Tasty food, wide variety of dishes. Eight of us enjoyed our meal - my Pad Khee Mao was full of flavour, very spicy (next time I'll choose mild rather than medium) full of fresh veggies and a generous portion. I wasn't crazy about the veggie spring rolls but everything else got the thumbs up.
We love! We eat here weekly almost and it is always consistent. And we are high maintenance .
From the outside this place doesn't look like much, but it was the best thai food I have ever had !!!! Great flavors, fresh ingredients and excellent service. I highly recommend !!!!!
Best thai in the area. The service is really good and the food was amazing. Will definitely go back there again
This is the best Thai in the area, and there seem to be a lot of Thai restaurants in the strip! When the new management took over we worried that standards might slip but in fact it seems to have improved. Love so many things on the menu but the cashew chicken is the dish I always turn to. Very good indeed, thanks guys.
The food was so good! Especially if your a veggo, there are a fair few options which is always exciting. Good service too, waiters/waitresses were really nice and even the chefs smiled!
I have been to Thailand and this food is the real deal. Amazing authentic flavours, wonderful friendly service, all in all the best thai in the area.
Best Thai in Elsternwick!. Had a fantastic take-away from Khun Thai on a Monday night, which was nice since a lot of places are closed on Mondays! Lots of vegetarian/vegan options, everything tasted amazing! Service was friendly and food was ready quickly. This will be our first choice for Thai in the future!
Fantastic fresh Thai. Absolutely adore their egg thick noodles, tom yum and green curries. Fresh vibrant ingredients. Looking forward to working my way through the rest of the menu. Very happy to have this place locally. Love it.
Best Thai Take Away. Ordered with a lovely english/thai speaking man. Took my gluten/fructose free order down beautifully and even offered to "watch the chef". Our food arrived within quoted time, beautiful authentic thai green curry, pud pad king for me GF FF and lovely rice. $50 for 2 people with an entree, 2 mains and a rice which is a little pricey but Definatley worth it!
Food is awesome! Always get free home delivery n thy don't have a minimum spendage like other places. Good value for money n authentic favors! Def recommend!!
First time I have tried khun Thai (is it just me or if you say it fast...maybe it's just me) last night. Was pleasantly suprised. Started fairly basic with a pad Thai even though they call it pud thai, very confusing. Really enjoyed it. Nice and fresh, rich flavours, and piping hot. Good service, and the old lady in the kitchen smiled at me. I always love a place with an old lady in the kitchen. Old ladies are better cooks than everyone else, I'm sure it's been proven by scientific American. Fat men with moustaches who can light fire to the frypan without setting fire to the kitchen came a close second. Anway I'm rambling i recommend you give khun Thai a go. Good food, funny name ( maybe that's why the old lady was smiling).
Yum! Home delivery arrived on time, was piping hot and super fresh. This is sure to become our thai of choice.
Good solid local Thai, you know the one that becomes your favorite for years to come. Green Curry is great. The flavors are very authentic and they always ask how spicy you would like it.
Chilli anyone?. Firstly, any restaurant who chooses to close on a Tuesday night for no apparent reason is clearly doing something right, and these guys are.
Their service is great - from in depth discussions about the fluctuating prices of chilli's when dining in to the staff knowing exactly who you are when you give your address for home delivery. They can be a little on the heavy side with the chilli, but when I mentioned it them last time they made it mild and delivered a small tub of sliced up chilli to add myself - certainly can't complain about that.
There's no doubt that Kun Thai are the best Thai option in the area....as long as you don't have a hankering on a Tuesday night.....
Great little place.run by a small team always happy to custom make your dishes.don't order spicy because it is actually spicy. Live the fried chicken n rice
Haven't been let down yet. Consistently good thai takeaway.fresh ingredients an authentic flavors.
Excellent Thai Food, Best In Melbourne. Dont bother with those poshy, expensive city restaurants. This restaurant serves the BEST THAI food in Melbourne. They do home deliveries as well. Cant go anywhere else for Thai food, always let down by the sweetened dishes or bland flavour other thai restaurants constantly cook. But this place is consistent and rich in flavour, just like Thai food should be. Very good food. All my mates love it too.
Good Service and Good Food. This little place used to be Chiangmai Thai. The name may have changed but the food is still delicious, service great. They are more than happy to chilli it up or down - you can be mild or Thai hot for most dishes. Everything is beautifully cooked. For take away Thai - this place is very hard to beat in the South East in Melbourne.
We started off with chicken curry puffs, which had a crisp puff pastry and a rich meaty filling. It was paired with a light sweet chilli sauce. This was followed up with a serve of quail. The dish was well cooked, but the quail was overwhelmed by too much garlic and soy sauce.
For mains course, we had a wide variety of dishes to share. A thai mainstay, the Pud Kee Mau had flat rice noodles, fresh prawn & squid, and crunchy vegetables in a sweet soy sauce. Delicious! The roast duck red curry, was fragrant and a little spicy, with fresh tomato and pineapple adding different flavours in each bite. We got some roti on the side, which was so soft.
The service was friendly, but as there was only one waiter it took a bit of time for them to get to you. But the food came quickly once ordered.
Khun Thai is one of the best Thau restaurants in Elsternwick, and definitely worth visiting.
Decided to go to Kuhn Thai as they make a very bold statement on their window - "Best Tom Yum in Melbourne".
I've seen that it's usually busy, but, when we got there, there was one table available, so we got seated straight away and got given water and menus.

I can't wait to get back for more.
Fantastic complex flavours and aromas in the sauces and soups; meat based dishes perfectly cooked are moist, delicate, and flavoursome, all in a cosy little place with great service. Highly recommended.
Absolutely reliable with authentic Thai food and very friendly service. Absolutely recommended. Middle of the road prices.
Convenient, tasty, fast, inexpensive. Only reason I don't give 5 stars is because it doesn't have a "wow" factor, but it's pretty good for a casual night out for thai.
For affordable Thai food this is a really good option. They're family run and friendly.
