Great food!!! Very cheap for what it’s worth! Love the bento box D! Although occasionally when ordering take away they might mix up your order. Once I was ordering bento box D as I am vegetarian but they nearly got it mixed up for bento box B which contains meat. Other than that love this place and will continue going there! #great food
This place is a hidden gem. Cheap food. Quality ingredients that are fresh and tasty, good service. A large menu, cool Japanese drinks. Definitely worth a look, it’s one of my fave little Jap places in Melbourne by far.
Probably the best sushi in Glen Huntly road. I come here often for some takeaway tuna and cucumber sushi hand rolls. They're fairly priced and are always filled completely. The decorum of the restaurant is not very inviting and looks slightly run down but the food is what matters and that's why I'm a regular!
This is a good value Japanese restaurant in this area. The ambience is pretty decent, I was expecting a take away kind of a place tbh. You actually get a restaurant experience and I saw many people coming in. Not sure how this place was hidden from me all these years. I ordered oyako Don. The flavours were good however chicken was scanty which was a big let down.
This place has amazing food!! ive gotten to the point were i actually crave coming back!! - im vegan so im a bit limited. I always go for the veggie gyozo, spring roles and tofu teriyaki don i think its called..? Amazing!!!! it fills me up soo much!!!! its pretty empty most times i go, but there are always people coming in when other people leave. good, quite environment. defs going again soon!!

Ordered a few dishes that sounded interesting and the stock favourite takoyaki to measure against. The takoyaki was middle of the road fare but excellent value. The duck egg roll was definitely the highlight with interesting flavours, the salmon roll had excellent salmon to rice ratio, though the rice was dry and was not moulded well. All in all a decent good value feed
While my frequent forays to Momo have been incredibly satisfying there was this one time I had fresh crispy chicken sushu here a few weeks ago that made we weep with joy. I now violently recommend Momo.
Nice and delicious sushi. Reasonable prices (for a $20 more than enough of food for two).
Rice is well cooked, not that much of sugar and vinegar. Fresh veggies and salmon. Rolls can be made right in front of you.
Unfortunately the place is pretty cold, definitely some renovation works are required there (huge gaps in door frames & on the walls). No air conditioner.
5 stars for their sushi, which is fresh across the late morning and early afternoon and absolutely to die for. I've never had an issue with the service, beyond an occasionally misidentified sushi roll.
Found the service to be OK (not great though) nice sushi though. Never really enjoyed sushi before but this had won me over which is saying a lot.
These guys produce some amazing food and it's extremely fast coming out.
But putting the sushi in your none gloved hand after you've just handled money is pretty disgusting.
Putting it into a non gloved hand regardless is not okay.
We come here 2 days a week for lunch because it's so close to work and they NEVER smile. And I mean never. Ever. At all. Not once. Not one of them.

My go to place for quick, delicious and value for money Japanese. Waitresses are great and always have a smile. I've been going here for the last few years since they were Momoko. I'm glad they haven't changed except for the name. I always enjoy my visits here. I would definitely recommend to anyone after yummy and quick Japanese.

Have been in here a fair bit now for a quick lunch snack. Always order the gyoza which are delicious! Sushi is always being made by the sushi man so you know it's fresh and tastes great!
Very decent sizes. I had a curry katsu with chicken - big bowl of noodles and soup + 5 decent peices of fried chicken, great quantity for $10 and very tasty too

Great food at a great price. One of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne! I find it hard to go anywhere else for Japanese on a budget. Always recommending to people, haven't had one bad review back.

Great Value. Fresh, Reasonable Price, nice environment and I definitely like it. I accidently find this place when I drive by. I had one of their Bento box and my mate had some sashimi and sushi. The fish is so fresh and tasty. Bento with miso soup, sashimi, Prawn, Salmon Teriyaki and a very very good Price. The girls there are so friendly. Well, I really enjoyed my dinner. Will recommend to my friends for sure.

Pretty good experience! sashimi is fresh and the crispy chicken sushi roll is yummy! service is good as well, a waitress suggested tappanyaki udon, it tasted hot and a little bit spicy, really a good choice in cold weather.

Great, tasty food. Enjoyed our evening. The service was quick & meals came out fast. Totally recommend the soft shell crab. The Bento boxes were also bigger than expected. Will come back again.
Great food, always leave satisfied and prices are quite reasonable. Fast service means you can jump in and out as quickly as you'd like if your don't feel like lingering. Bento boxes are a favourite.
The best Japanese restaurant. I had a small dinner party in Momoco Sushi Elsternwick. All of my friends were very happy with the food there. Hot food are very nice, seafood are fresh and service are very good. we highly recommended this restaurant.
BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN TOWN. I came across momoco last Sunday when my friend and I missed our tram stop, we had dinner there and it was absolutely AMAZING!!
we ordered Meijii Roll, Unagi Maki, Sashimi and Fried Udon with duck, the serve was big and it was so delicious that I bought 2 serves of takeaway for midnight snack!
Very happy, I'm definitely going back there, even if it means miss the tram stop again!
Momoco sushi provides an authentic Asian dining experience. Upon viewing the menu one is presented with a fine selection of oriental delights.
Generous portions and great value along with quality produce combine to form a knockout combination.
Fresh sashimi was definitely a highlight.
Will definitely return at next opportunity. Highly recommended.
Momoco is a very nice restaurant. The salmon teriyaki had great flavour and texture. I'd definitely go there again!

Why so much negativity?. After reading recent reviews one might be put off dining at Momoco. Luckily for me I let my friend decide where to have dinner last night because otherwise I might've visited Urbanspoon and avoided this place. Thank God I didn't!
In a nutshell, don't listen to all the bad hype on here. Maybe the frequent local diners are afraid of change or trying to keep this place a secret!
The sushi here was some of the best I've had and I'm no new sushi/sashimi convert. We had lobster naki (amazing), meijii roll (roast duck with mango and avocado; outstanding) and a medium plate of sashimi (three types of fish). It was all fresh, well presented, different in taste from each other and simply some of the best Japanese I've had. And to add to that the portions are rather generous with the sashimi platter being a little on the lighter side but is more than adequate - although maybe not for your common over-eating Westerner (I'm Australian with a healthy appetite).
In conclusion, if you're after reasonably priced, fresh and healthy sushi / sashimi be sure to drop by.
Maybe next time I'll try a hot dish.
Alright.... For a quick bite it serves a purpose. We sat in on a sunday arvo and ordered the californian rolls. A minute later a plastic takeaway tub was presented to us - they didnt even put it on a plate and we were eating in. The rolls were fairly good though. The japanese pancakes were also pretty tasty. Some of the other dishes we saw on other tables looked the goods - so it warrants a return visit. Staff a a bit cold though.
I live back on the Northside now but a few years back I did a two year stint in Elwood and I think I ate at Momoco more than I did at home.
This is still my favorite place in Melbourne to get sushi. The handrolls are so fresh and generous, they have been almost impossible to top. The cooked tuna and California handrolls are the standouts for me. If you are feeling a bit decadent go for the pork tonkatsu roll- inauthentic but satisfying.
The hot food is good too. A big bowl of tofu, veg and rice will leave you full and warm.
The staff could be better but with sushi that good I'm always on the lookout for an excuse to head to Elsternwick for these winners. Damn it, I want some now!!
Favourite of mine. Excellent value for money, but always check your bill, mistakes on more than one occassion.

momoco is a blend of takeaway (they do this) and restaurant. food is tasty, fresh and excellent choices.
momoco is not a "all night event" however its a quick stop for a decent bite to eat.
Surprised. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food from this little takeaway joint. I certainly think its more of a takeaway than a sit-in restaurant so perhaps that's why people were disappointed by their lack of service. I had the teriyaki chicken rice which came with a serve of salad for $9 and it was delicious and fresh. They cooked to order and was quick too. Certainly value for money and they have earned a repeat customer.
Love it. Go at least once a week. The bento boxes are great value and the noodle soups are great. Miso soup has been hit and miss but
Great value. Momoco is one of a new breed of Japanese cafes. Great food at a reasonable price. Their Okonomiyaki is delicious, their gyoza plump and juicy and their sushi and sashimi are fresh. Only complaint was that my salmon sashimi was cut in thick slices which I don't like. I sent it back and came back well prepared. Service is somewhere between stand offish and rude but hey, I go there for the food!
Previous reviews have been spot on, fish is top quality. Tried sashimi, tuna tataki, hamachi fried, gyoza, teriyaki don and agedashi tofu. All was great, particularly tuna tataki.
Never ate fish until I tried the salmon teriyaki here. It was fantastic! Love the gyoza too

Great take-away if you're in the area. Fabulous California rolls - no nasty "seafood" filler, but full of prawn and avocado, and salmon wrapped around the outside. Yum!!

Bravo Bento. Bento Box is the Spanish Tapas. Momoco serve up a fine selection, in a great value for money box of goodies. The tempura prawns are second to none. Enjoy this great little local.
More than just sushi... All the usual favorites and then some more. If you are tired of the same old sashimi try Tuna Tataki. Yum! Not a flash place, but excellent food, friendly service, reasonable prices. What more can you ask for? I'll come back tomorrow...
Fantastic!. I have tried sushi all over the world and this is by far the best sushi I have ever come across! Always fresh ingredients are used and service is always witha smile! I have sushi from this place almost daily as a result! The line out the door every lunchtime is a good indicator of something worthwhile!
Maki Rolls Rule @ Momoco. Have been a fan of this place since they opened shop, although back then I didn't have to fight my way through the hordes to place my order or find a seat. It's only a compact little space with limited seating, but they are in the process of expanding to the neighbouring shop which will certainly assist eating in. The food here is just delicious, and there's a clear focus on high quality fresh ingredients. I'm a big fan of their Maki rolls, especially the Sake Ebi Maki which features prawn & avocado rolled in nori with salmon on the outside. The California rolls make use of hand picked blue swimmer crab meat, not that processed rubbish you'll find elsewhere. There are Bento Boxes available and a nice range of hot dishes too.
