Review Meze Turkish Restaurant - Elsternwick

Maria Bronowiecki
Having been at a popular Turkish restaurant the other night we decided to try Mezze. It was terrible! This "food" was anything but fresh or prepared with any kid of skill. We will not be returning ever! Avoid this place at all costs

Great Turkish food but in a very cramped space.

DONT EVER GO! Is it even a.... DONT EVER GO!
Is it even a Turkish Restaurent ? Food was very basic and highly over priced.the lady taking order had very bad accent which was hard to understand.would surely not recommend.i guess it's better to eat a pack of some cheap noodles instead of going there..

Lovely service n good food. Nice service and food i liked it ... me and my friend live in Essendon, totally on the other side of the restaurant ...while waiting for my friend, i went in the restaurant for a Turkish coffee. it was a nice Turkish coffee, than my friend arrived cause of the lovely and friendly people we thought of having a quick meal ...... we order ispanakli borek .out of my expectation it was delicious and we loved the food. i will surely go back ...thanks for the lovely service and food

I went here once a week for years. Since the change of hands a little while back, we tried it twice and won't go back. The positive reviews if late all seem to have the same poor spelling and punctuation. I guess that says something!

This is NOT a restaurant. And it certainly is NOT a Turkish restaurant. It is one woman cooking on a grill. No falafel, no tabbouleh, no parsley, no ricotta, no skewers, no customers, no champagne glasses, did I mention no customers. Like the customer review earlier, the food was not good. It was blackened and basic - steamed rice, and salad accompanied every dish.
I was fooled and went there for a birthday celebration - omg. I eat out often and without doubt, this is the worst restaurant (should not be called that) I, or my family have ever been to. It's not a cafe either. There needs to be some other category of eating houses - so at least diners are not fooled. Not happy Jan!

Changed Hands. New owners, no spit running, restaurant extremely cold, banquet of small samples of many dishes gone and replaced with set menu with choice of one dish per course. Twenty minute wait in empty restaurant for dips served with ridiculously small serve of bread, charged for more. Eggplant bitter and raw in middle. Saganaki and meat all very overcooked and covered with black grit from dirty grill. Dry baklava. Didn't wait for coffee. Used to love it, won't go back. Also, many of the gushing reviews appear to be written by the same person who types hv instead of have.

Fantastic family run genuine Turkish eatery. Simple & honest family run restaurant, food was fantastic & good value for money. Nice local feel & neighborhood feeling that is missing in many places.

DO NOT GO HERE. Bought a Scoopon, rang to book 5 times, they were always booked out or closed for renovations. Will never eat here or buy a Scoopon again. The owner took my phone no. promised to ring, when I kept ring back months later to book they were always booked out. TOTAL CROOKS. SCOOPON REFUSED TO REFUND! HOPE THEY GO BROKE

This restaurant is a rip off. We purchased a scoopon voucher and we were told that they are booked out. The owner extended our voucher took my number and never called me back. I called back and they denied the conversation. Do not go to this restaurant.

Very Happy - Great Food. After being away for quite a few years, we finally went back to Meze. The food was tasty, staff were friendly, and we had a great night. It is not a 'fine dining' restaurant, and it is not in a high profile area, but it is worth a visit. It is a small, family run restaurant, with very traditional Turkish food. It's a shame so many Scoopon voucher purchasers have been disappointed, but blame the organiser, not the restaurant. It is the organiser who dictates how many "discount" dinners can be used on any one night, and it's not just this company that does it. There are many "great" offers from coupons, that just don't work, because of the restrictions put on by the company, not the participating restaurant (or B&B, or hotel, etc. etc. ). The food it great!

The worst restaurant that I have ever been to with the worst food and customer service I have ever witnessed.

We are new to the area and have found a nice Turkish Restaurant. I loved the front section of the ottoman style seating. We ordered the cutlets and chicken, the dishes were delicious. A serving of Turkish bread and mixed dips was so yummy. So much flavor in the meats and a Turkish beer while having the meal was spot on. I will definitely come back and try the other meals. Nice work Meze.

Tasty. I was recommended to go and try the food and happy with the taste....

No value for money- disappointing!. My partner and I recently purchased a scoopon voucher. We have tried in vain to redeem it, without any success. We tried to book for one night well before expiry of voucher (Feb) and was informed by the owner that the restaurant was booked out for the next couple of months. Therefore, he was going to extend the time for the voucher and that we needed to call back in a couple of months. We did that, however we were told the owner was on holidays and to ring back again in June/ July. SInce then, we have tried on 5-6 occasions to make a booking, either to be told to ring back because he was on a delivery or we left yet another message, however we have had no one call back! This place is an absolute rip off as we have now just wasted our money. Clearly the owner is running from customers to earn a quick buck. Very disappointing!

Bad service rude manager! .... Bad service rude manager!

Extremely disappointed with Meze restaurant. Could not book in with voucher 6 months in advance which was when scoopon was purchased.

No meal. No money.
As far as they are concerned they don't care!

Very happy scooping customer ,had no problem booking 2nd time, after having cancelled the 1st booking. Six month, is enough time to organize a dinner for people that are organized!

Terribly Disappointed. What a waste of time and energy. Purchased 4 vouchers through Scoopon for a group of friends and tried in vain to redeem it. Booked for one night well before expiry of voucher and was called back to be informed by the owner that the restaurant was closed due to plumbing issues. Tried unsuccessfully to rebook but was fobbed off by owner. Called and made a booking under a different name and that was confirmed - however owner grabbed the phone off the waiter taking the booking and recognized the voice and knocked back the booking for the 3rd time. SO NOW - NO MONEY AND NO REFUND FROM SCOOPON AND NO DINNER. SOMEONE HAS MADE AN EASY BUCK HERE AT A COST OF $29 PER VOUCHER X 4.

Scoopon Voucher wasted, no follow up call for booking confirmation.. My husband & I were given a scoopon voucher as a Christmas present, after TWO months of attempting to make a booking we gave up as no one would answer the phone or return our phonecalls. We were severely dissapointed as now the voucher has run out.

"The pits" My girlfriend, homemate and I got delivery from Meze tonight for a quiet night in. This is possibly the worst turkish food i have ever eaten!! Overpriced and bland and boring. Will never eat from Meze again I have already thrown out the menu.

Turkish Delight. Went down with a friend to try out Meze in Elsternwick and thought i had ended up in Bursa, Turkey. The Iskender is by far the best i have had in Melbourne, and i must admit i have had a few in my time. The service is also friendly and the food reasonably priced. I Would recommend to start with the mixed dips served with warm turkish bread before moving onto your main. But dont overdo the delicious bread as you will need space to enjoy your iskender.

First Time having Turkish Mediterranean Food. It was my first visit to a Turkish Mediterranean Restaurant.
Meze was recommended by a work colleague so I took my partner along the other evening. We ordered some mixed dips and a coban salad for our entrees. Nice servings of various flavored dips which went well with the warm Turkish pita bread. I ordered a mixed grill and my partner ordered a iskender kebab. Our mains where quick to arrive at our table. Nice flavored and tender meats of lamb & chicken served on my plate. I tasted my partners iskender and was impressed with the simple but tasty sauce poured over the good serving of lamb kebab. My partner and I didn't leave anything on our plates. finished off the evening with a Turkish coffees and a chocolate mousse.
Overall it was a very nice meal and evening. We shall be going back again another time soon.

Definitely not worth it.... My partner and I bought the '7 course feast with bottle of wine' deal through Scoopon, and were disappointed to find that the restaurant was pretty grubby, in an out of the way spot. The staff were friendly, but the food was bland and tasted very similar. The meat and rice were served without sauces, and was very dry on the palate. We were also served only four courses, plus an inch square size of pastry as desert. When we asked why we were only served five (not that we were keen to eat more of it) we were informed that the modest sized plate with a few underwhelming dolmades and bits of bread counted as four courses. The dolmades, incidentally, looked and tasted exactly like the ones you buy in Coles for 50 cents each. All up, an evening that we'd been looking forward to eventuated in a bland experience, that left a bitter taste in the mouth....

Don't bother. Used a voucher that supposedly offered our choice of 2 mains and 2 future cash coupons, but we got neither: http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/3768/just-39-for-a-turkish-banquet-for-two-btl-of-wine-inc-mains-entrees-sides-desserts-more We just can't see the series of dishes we got could justify the so-called original price of $103. We weren't asked to choose our mains, lucky they didn't offer the $20 coupon for the next visit. It's got a humble decor, some dishes were surprisingly tasty and came in very good timing, staff were friendly, but given the normal price and the small dish (all in 6" plates) of our 2 "mains", we won't go back again.

Smoky with attitude. Food was okay, service not that good. Ambience was very smoky from the grill which I thought was bad, but perhaps could be enjoyable for some.
The Bottom Line
Don't let the set up fool you, the food is all quality. Cuisine is delicious when done right. It's done right here. Enough said.

Turkish Delight. Tried meze for the 1st time. Food was very good. Started with a spinach and feta borek which was great. Then had a mixed grill and my partner had the lamb chops. Both were good size serves and tasty. Finished with a fine turkish coffee. The restaurant is quite small but has outdoor seating.
