Love this place. Absolutely best indian in the area. Lovely friendly staff as well.

I love this restaurant. I come here with my friends often and they are always so helpful while providing the most amazing food. I also ordered through Uber Eats and forgot to mention I wanted to alter one of their dishes. I called the restaurant and they were so kind and able to meet my request without any hesitation. Couldn’t speak more highly of Machan!

I just had dinner at Machan this evening. Always a brilliant experience. Great food, kind and helpful efficient service. I am proud to know the owner and to call it my favourite family restaurant in Eltham. I highly recommend Machan for an authentic and delightful eating out experience. The owner goes o er and above to make us feel welcome every time.

This place embodies quality and consistency. Food is delicious everytime. Our favourite is the vindaloo. The breads are always beautifully made. Mango lassi is a must try. The service is great everytime. The owner personally checks in with each table, don't see that happening nowadays. Very luck that this is one of my local restaurants...and it delivers!

Would never buy from this place. Picked up takeaway on Friday 6th May. As I reached and paid, this guy had full on attitude and did not even say hi or hello. Took payment and did not say how long, I just waited. Came and passed 15 mins later (already 50 mins since I ordered while I was told 30). Got home and paneer tikka had a piece of chicken (it was for friends that do not eat meat/poultry). Entire set of food was full of oil and tasted stale and pretty much tasteless. I guess you guys are banking on people that probably do not know what authentic Indian food is. One of the worst places

Hospitality and Taste at its Best...One of the Best fine dining experience you can have in Melbourne at a reasonable price...Limited Veg options but both the mains we ordered were great in taste especially Malai Kofta...Paneer Makhni was not prepared in an authentic, it was more like Paneee Butter Masala but the Taste was great...Tried almost all the breads like Roti, Garlic Naam and Cheese Garlic Naam but Lachha Paratha is the Best...I would probably go back just to have that...Owner and the staff is very courteous...Ambience is nice as well...Not to be missed if you are around Eltham.

The best place to dine in, special greet to the owner super chill and fantastic service, he is always there to provide a awesome and tasteful food with natural indian food, and the price are so cheap as well for the quality

We’ve been coming here for many years. Food and service is always excellent
Andrew Gipps
We loved the food, wine and service, will definitely be coming back.

Long time restaurant in Eltham. Lovely owners and food is very good - consistently good. Not amazing but very good! If you like Indian food it’s on the must visit list. Pricing very reasonable

Last night we decided to order Ubereats at around 8pm. Machan was a suggestion and we went with it! I loved the flavours of the tandoori but the pieces were quite small for $25.00, should have some cucumber and lemon to compliment the dish also. The sauces are tasty in all other dishes though! Definitely would order again for late night dinner!
Snooze
Ordered ubereats over the weekend and gave this place a shot. We ordered naan, chicken tikka and chicken vindaloo. The naan and vindaloo were very good but the chicken tikka was very plain. The next night my sister ordered from here and got the chicken tikka which was delicious and had so much more flavour. There may be some inconsistency with the curries but I’m still happy to try their other dishes in the future
Susan J
Ordered through ubereats out of desperation. My kids simply wouldn't eat it and they have travelled through India trying all sorts of things. It's also kind of dodgy how they write all of these fake bad reviews for the amazing Ginger Garlic. Bad people, bad restaurant, bad food.
Elizabeth Gipps
Everything about this restaurant is excellent. The service is friendly and prompt, the food is fresh and delicious, meeting our high expectations. We came here due to the reviews, and were certainly not disappointed. Coming back soon!
Good Food Good Mood
I chose Machan for my birthday dinner last night, a family member had told me it was s newly opened restaurant but upon arriving we realised it had been around for 15+ years. They’ve certainly perfected the chicken tikka over that time as it was delicious.

Unfortunately a 12 suburb wide power outage hit before we were even able to order but luckily they were still able to cook on gas and did a pretty stellar job in the pitch black darkness. We ate an unplanned candlelight dinner with the help of the iPhone flashlight which was a rather novel experience. The butter chicken paired with garlic naan was quite the treat. The chicken was super soft and the sauce nice and creamy.

We also had fish Amritsari, chicken korma, sheesh kebab, malai kofta and samosas. Everyone was overall quite impressed with the food, despite the difficult cooking conditions it didn’t show on the plate. Would be interested to see the place in the daylight next time!

Have been here heaps over the years, whether dining in or takeaway the food is always great. It's the only Indian place we keep going back too. The service is fantastic. The tandoori platter is a taste sensation.

Our local Indian restaurant, always looks after us well. 26 of us last night booked in for a set banquet. They had all the food on the table at the same time for our party, even though the restaurant was full. Ronan checks and looks after everyone, the service is great. You can order food to be mild or hotter. It’s reliable good food. If you live near here, give them a go.

Probably the best Indian food I had in Melbourne!!! Dal Makhani, Tandoori chicken are the one which I really love!! The best part was their staff!! So polite and really nice people!!

Came here on a Sunday night. Wasn’t too busy at 6:30pm but nice and relaxed. Service was friendly and prompt. Ordered the butter chicken, muttar palao rice, garlic naan and roti. I felt like the chicken dish was a bit overpriced due to the serving size not being incredibly big but was still worth it due to being yummy. Breads were delicious. Will be back!

Machan Indian restaurant in Eltham. Best Indian restaurant in this area and nice friendly staff with good service. Like the mango lassi and butter chicken. Very good.

Love the ambience. Food is flavourful and service is fantastic. The staff goes out of their way to ensure that you are served well and look after you! Will go again and again!
Christy Paul
Delicious! Had the butter chicken (a must!) and the lamb nilgiri. Both were yum. Service was very personable and attentive. Will definitely be back.
Melb_food_trend
Probably one of the best indian restaurant in the area. Good vibes, tasty food & easy public access. Service always fast & friendly. Our favorite butter chicken always hit the spot.
La Ola Es Mia Cocina.
Really nice food for the most part, but their butter chicken was very underwhelming, as mine that I cook from scratch at home is is way better, as well as Hot Gossip’s restaurant in Boronia.

For the most part it was a pleasant experience, despite lack of presentation with the food.
Cameron Barr-Kemp
Average: Aussie style Indian and surprisingly more expensive than I expected. Nice staff however food was average at best, meals just didn't have the full flavour I would expect not aromatic nor tasty.
Yume Yume
Friendly staff and an extensive menu.

We ordered four different curries, three vegetable and a chicken korma. While there were subtle differences between all three the bases seemed to be fairly consistent across the board and all quite creamy but all very tasty. The pumpkin masala was probably my personal favourite of all three. The naan was also very good.

The real winner for the night however were the samosas, would definitely recommend them to start.
Lovely food and great service. Will be coming here regularly. Ordered Barra Kebab in entree, very flavourful lamb chops. And food was generous amounts and good quality.
Dave B
Dined here last night. We had the Barra Kebab (Lamb chops) and Tandoori mushrooms for entrees, both were very good. We had the Beef Vindaloo, Pumpkin Masala and Pulao for mains, again, all very good. Ordered the Mango Ice Cream for dessert which was crap. Hard as a block of ice plopped out of a small plastic tub, very uninspiring. Mentioned this to the friendly chap running the joint and his reply was 'Indian's don't do dessert very well' which is just BS as theses desserts are available at other Indian restaurants and done well. Don't put it on the menu if you're not going to do it well. Desserts aside, food was generally pretty good as was the service BUT you need to teach your staff to open and pour the wine. Will eat here again.
Sue James
Lovely food and great service. So friendly. The Lamb Rogan Josh was tasty as was the paneer. Will be back but won't order as much food next time
Asha L
The best authentic North Indian Cuisine in town. Love this place and the service. Machan Indian Restaurant has been a hit since its opened its door to customers since 2003.
Ronnie Hudson
I ordered some take away over the weekend from Machan. It'd been highly recommend to me to try it out,so I dis just that. It was incredibly busy I arrived 20mins later to pick up my food.
I ordered the Prawn Vindaloo & let me tell you I wasn't disappointed!! It had the authentic flavour of how a vindaloo should be. It was hot and spicy just the way I like it! Hugely impressed and I'll definitely be coming back regularly.
Patricia
The service here was ahh-mazing! The manager really cares about the food and makes sure it was made to your taste! I eat Indian quite a bit and this has to be number 1. You'll be surely looked after here!
Becca D
This would have to be one of our family's favourite local restaurants. The food is always tasty and good quality, the staff very friendly and accommodating!
Geoff Smith
Great stuff. Consistently hits the mark. The dishes are very well made and delicious, standard Indian choices with some really interesting specials. The pepper chicken is extremely good. The staff are always helpful and friendly and nothing takes too long. The prices are very reasonable too.
Mark Schiavello
The best there is. Food is amazing and service is very welcoming. Can't go past the butter chicken. Always creamy and thick. The garlic naan is fluffy. I come here once a week
Brie
By far the best Indian I've ever eaten! Delicious meals and run by such a beautiful, friendly family. So warm and welcoming! Will keep coming back again and again
Meg
Delicious authentic Indian food! I love the poppadoms and sauce you get. The pakoras are a must try their sooo good! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Always a busy restaurant, recommend booking.
Natalie Pia Torcosio
Nice! Clean ! Welcoming staff!! Perfect Indian! Food was tasty and had heaps of flavour but the prices were the best thing! Nice size meals for a great price! Would recommend to anyone!
Jessica Scolieri
Amazing service, excellent food! Been going to this hidden gem of Melbourne the last 13 years. Best Indian I've had outside of India! Highly recommend you visit this place!!
Ashley
A great Indian restaurant. Used to come here all the time with my family before we discovered Suwan Thai. Always consistently great food, and their mango lassi was the perfect accompaniment to any dish.
Hemant Kapila
After having a scrumptious and perfect dinner at this place, I have included it in my list of favorite eateries. It is one of the very few Indian restaurants in Melbourne that serve yeast-free crispy naans. We ordered Palak Paneer, Paneer Makhani, and Chicken Vindaloo with garlic naans, and found everything to be excellent, aromatic, and tasty. The staff attitude was friendly and pleasing. I am going there again and again.
Pam
This place is really pretty good. Always room to breath. Never too packed. The owner is friendly and chatty. Never had a bad curry here. It's a while since we've been but would happily go again. The food tasted great. A little dated in decor hence the 4.5 :-)
ToMaZo
It's so good to find an Indian restaurant of this quality in the burbs! The curries are delicious (the madras in particular is my fave) as is the crusty naan bread. To top it off the service is always faultless regardless of whether we dine in or pick up take away. Highly recommend!
Tim
Some of the best food, let alone Indian Food I have eaten. Was feeling like a curry all day and the Beef Madras and my wife Chicken Tikka Masala were perfect.
Such a lovely family run place and the place was packed tonight (Sat)......
Will be back, with others!!...
Arv Sharma
Went for dinner service. Warm hospitality and excellent service. If you love authentic Indian food, it's the place to be ! If you like your food to be spicy, specify !
Kristie
I think this is the most amazing indian restaurant around! My partner and i enjoy their paneer makhani and chicken saagwala. Their paneer is homemade and absolutely beautiful! The staff are always friendly and make you feel very comfortable.

One of the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. First time I went there for dinner with my wife. I was amazed by the service and the food was so delicious. Very good hospitality. Would love to go back there again and will recommend it to my friends too.
Manoj jangra

This is by far the best Indian food you will ever eat! Accompanied by attentive and lovely service, the owner is one of the nicest people I've met!
Tracie
Love this place. Go often, great food and wonderful service.
Morgan
Nice food, pleasant atmosphere. Went last night and thoroughly enjoyed the butter chicken and the chef's special beef dish. Beef was a little too sinewy but flavour was beautiful. Disappointingly realised I had been overcharged upon returning home but will definitely return, will scrutinise the bill next time though!
Amulya Merit
Disappointing. We ordered the tandoori mushrooms for a starter, there were only 4 mushrooms and it costs $16! There was barely any flavour and they were half raw.
The veggie curry was at least spicy, but was full of cheap staple food (potato, carrot) and my aloo palak (potato and spinach) literally tasted like water.
We expected the food to taste like Indian food, flavoursome and spicy. We were very disappointed.

Best Indian Food in Melbourne. We have eaten here four times in the last 6 months and as a family we love this food. We have eaten at many Indian restaurants and definitely rate this the best by far. The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious. We have now tried everything on the menu and seriously whatever you choose you will enjoy. Our family favourites are Saagwala chicken and garlic nann. The service is exceptional. Can't wait to go back.
Liamerobinson
Best indian restaurant. This is easily the best indian resturaunt I have ever been to, it has great food, its service is exelent and very friendly. The food is simply scrumptious. I would definetly not be going anywhere else for my indian food.

Best Indian of my life!

Two Bears And A Fork
We love Machan Indian Restaurant . The Gorgeous Masala Dosa We've been eating their delicious food since 2004 (not long after the current owners took over) and have no plans to stop! An absolutely lovely family, who treat you like a friend - with obliging smiles and wonderful conversation - Machan is a must-do if you're ever in Eltham and get a hunger pang! Paneer Makhani - Beef Madras We dropped in for a Sunday lunch where we tried their Masala Dosa (one of our all-time favourite Indian munchers!) - which exceeded expectations! Lovely potato filling, crispy crepe, spicy sambal and coconut chutney! I think we could've just sat there and eaten 10 of those (well, perhaps my eyes are bigger than my stomach, but I'd give it a shot!) Garlic Naan We ordered our all time faves from Machan .... Shawn, the Beef Madras which always (always, always!!) has the most tender pieces of meat swimming in a rich, peppery curry sauce. I got my 'I-can't-pick-anything-else-on-the-menu-because-I-love-you-

Great food. Very impressive

Cant be faulted!. Amazing food, friendly staff. Will definitely come back again
Tammy
Great food and service. Ate here for the first time tonight. Both service and food were great. They were able to accommodate all changes we requested to the menu. Reasonably priced as well - will definitely be returning!
Erin Kersing
Please go here instead of Ginger Garlic if you're a local. Not only is the pricing more reasonable and the food better, the staff are so delightful, friendly and warm, and the atmosphere is so much more welcoming. Such a wonderful place!
David J
Best Indian Restaurant. Great food and even better hospitality. Run my Rohan and his family. His 3 lovely daughters often wait on the tables and it is a real family atmosphere. Rohan loves to talk cricket and always knows the scores of any game.

Try the lamb cutlets- by far the best in Melb. Rohan just places the entree order when he sees us coming through the door.

The meals are very reasonably priced and quite filling and thus the bill is alway modest.

I am a long time customer and do try other Indian restaurants but always come but to Machan. Once you get to know Rohan it is like going for a family meal.

He has numerous regulars who feel the same way.

Love!. Food was amazing! Service was amazing and so friendly. Definitely will be back to enjoy this great place.

Delicious food of a high standard! We have been going for years and enjoy the food, service and atmosphere every time! The owners and waitresses are beautiful people who always give 10/10 service! Trust me you will enjoy the whole experience at Machan Indian Restaurant!!!

Perfect. This is the best Indian food in Melbourne. I have been coming here for years and the quality has never changed. Highly recommended for a nice dine in experience, or prompt take away service.
Marcus Walker
Ol' faithful. We have been going here for a few years now . food is best Indian in the valley , personalised friendly service (brings me kingfisher beer as soon as i sit down) . I feel that they get the whole dining out thing right ,price, quality, servce ,ambience and an important aspect is the floor and wall covering reduce the ambient noise levels so you don't come out from dinner with your belly full and ears ringing ... they deserve the urbanspoon rating they have and I am more than happy to help that rating up .
Slanham2
Good food, slow service. It would seem that they were caught completely off guard last night, valentines day,
The food itself was pretty good but over an hours wait between entree and main and apologetic waitresses run off their feet/forgetting things took the shine off.
Sol_n_chai
I went to this restaurant twice in one week. I'm vegan and they were certainly helpful with my needs! I had the vegetable korma, the pumpkin masala, and the dal makhani (I think this is how you spell these dishes!) and they were all sensational. The pappadams at the start of the meal were the best I have ever tasted. Will definitely be returning to this restaurant soon, a huge hit with my family too.
Lauren_lincoln
Great food. We love going to Machan for eat and takeaway! Always consistent with service and quality. It is fairly reasonably-priced, and good sized proportions. Have lived in Eltham for 8 years, and its great to know you get such reliable service with a smile. Would recommend it to anyone! Such friendly people too!

At last, an Indian restaurant to call home. After dropping on on a whim, my partner and I decided to experiment outside of our usual "Test the butter chicken" Indian restaurant benchmark.

We went for the fish korma, a plate of pakoras and the Chicken Kulchan. There was a little mix up in the kitchen which the manager handled with aplomb (although there seemed to be raised voices in the kitchen which we assumed was the chef being reprimanded in a way which made me feel very sorry for him). We hid our amusement when the manage came out and were astonished when she offered to replace the fish korma we had eaten whilst waiting for the rest of our order to arrive. We declined but on paying she insisted we take a free dish with us which was just outstanding customer service.

The Fish Korma initially was a bit confusing...I was a little unimpressed but without anything else to eat, I tried a little more and got a sprig of coriander in with the sauce and the fish. My taste buds tried to grab hold of the spoon. Suddenly the dish was transformed and the flavour was just phenomenal, authentic and wonderful. The fish was a trifle over-cooked just a little chewy but the it just worked. Everything else was good, not outstanding; the keema naan a little light on filling which lacked punch, the pakoras were a little dry and the poor chicken kulchan didn't stand a chance against the korma but was very nice and delicate.

Would thoroughly recommend them for a well-priced and lovely flavored meal.

Keep up the good work!

Great place. Very friendly and good food. 8/10

Good atmosphere. Pleasant and quick service. Good food.

Had a very enjoyable Fathers day lunch at Machan with dad. The owners & their daughters who all work in the restaurant are super friendly and lovely people. The food was as good as the reviews say, our favourites were the butter chicken & Gulab Jamun the prawn korma was also great...
Francesca
Best Indian food in Melbourne. First time I had dinner there and I can't believe I haven't before. Butter chicken and lamb korma were so tasty, nan bread cooked so well, will be going back soon and bringing my friends. Staff was so friendly also. Very satisfied.
Simone
Great food and service! Been going here for years and never fails to disappoint, delicious food and a welcoming restaurant environment! Always recommending to our friends!
Trish
A little gem. Delicious food that is always consistently good and great value along with outstanding service. This family restaurant is a gem and it doesn't get much better than this.
Bharat Ratan Sharma
Great! Chicken Tikka Masala. Would say the best Indian Restaurant in Melbourne. The taste is typically Indian. Tried Chicken Tikka Masala and loved it. The Naan was crispy too.
Would definitely try something else from this restaurant. Fast service too. The Best
Stephen Woolway
What a fantastic experience! Food is fantastic and so is the service.
Rebecca
Great Kashmiri naan! My favourite side when dining here, can't fault any of the food in fact.
Peter Richard
Am very happy to recommend Machan, had a great experience. Fine food and really friendly staff.
Mandeedo
Excellent every time!. This Indian food is amongst the nicest my family and I have had in Melbourne. The service is second to none and ALWAYS FRIENDLY and ALWAYS willing to help the customer. The owner and his family are a delight to chat to, the restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated. Its always a pleasure to eat here, well done Machan! I will never eat at the Ginger Garlic in Eltham again! 10/10 all round :)

Best Palak Paneer... EVER!. I took my dad to this restaurant, I have never felt so taken care of in my life, the lady who's name I feel terrible for forgetting was so friendly and attentive.
and the food.... OH MY GOSH!!! Amazing, I don't think I have ever had a better palak paneer, I don't have any complaints at all about this place!
Jerry Ashtamkar
Machan Indian Restaurant. Fantastic restaurant. Decently priced food, lovely service and best of all delicious food! I recommend it to my family and friends.

Millefleurs
Delicious food, great service. Warm, friendly welcome from waitstaff was a great start to our evening. We had samosas and dips for starters, which were good. Great bread from the tandoor - Lacha Paratha, delicious. Lamb Balti and Palak Paneer with rice for main course. The lamb was very tender, with a delicate tomato based sauce, aromatic but not hot spicy. We loved the palak paneer, cottage cheese cubes poached in a yummy spinach sauce. Divine! One complaint - the wine list is short and fairly basic, and they did not have stock of the wine we chose. We settled for another, but it was a slight disappointment to an otherwise good night out.
Erika
Quality food & excellent service. After some amazing samosas, we ordered 5 Mains between 6 of us and there were a reasonable amount of leftovers. The dessert isn't really worth it though, $7 for one scoop of icecream.. The rest was delicious and totally worth it - classier than other local Indian restaurants I have tried.
Billie
Love it. Always friendly service (only ever get take away) fanstic quality everytime, never left anything out of our order! chicken saag is delish!
Yummy Mummy
Just delightful!. We had a wonderful experience eating here with our two littlies (5 and 1). The staff (presumably family) were all so welcoming and accommodating of our children, the food was wonderful and the atmosphere was very family friendly without being noisy and unruly. We ate extremely well, beautifully spiced samosas and a fantastic Chicken Korma (amongst other things) that was polished off completely by my boys. We will be back!
Dharampal Arya
Friendly atmosphere nice place to enjoy with family. Food was really nice & fresh. Would like to visit again with family. Ronan' Asha & their lovely beautiful daughters all r very caring. Nice decor give taste like india. My best wishes with them.
Savvas
Great food. Wonderful service. Will come back again.
Ben McGregor
On the take away side I wasn't a fan. Rice a bit too dry and the butter chicken too spivey for me. I'm going to look for a different Indian place before I choose to go back.
Fiona Haasz
Lovely people, Delicious food, relaxed ambient atmosphere. My 4yo and I are regulars. He orders his regular meal and has charmed the staff who lavish him with attention.
Carissa Elliott
Consistently reliable for a really great feed and lovely service from this family business - make sure you book as it is very popular!
Alex Coath
Decent Indian Food. Bought two curries with some Peshwiri Naan and rice; wasn't disappointed, fairly decent price, good amount of food, almost leftovers and the naan was great, not too oily or hard or soft, just a little bitey to soak up the best of the curry. The peas in with the rice is probably unnecessary, I might try Saffron next time.
Mavis
Such wonderful food. Best Indian food in the area, vegetarian options have been deliciously prepared and seafood tastes fresh and great. Service when dining in is absolutely lovely - a fresh change from the terrible service one can expect at Ginger Garlic a little further away from the station.
Susan Maffei
Dined there the other night and was so disappointed. The food was bland and boring and the presentation matched. Two of us returned our half eaten curry puffs back to the plate, vegetable curry was like frozen mixed veggies with a tasteless sauce. Dried chicken stuck to the bone in the mixed grill.Yuk! friendly service and nice ambience, just need to get some flavor happening. Forget the coffee too.
Vindi Gill
The nicest Indian restaurant I've ever been to! Food, service and atmosphere are all first class. I highly recommend the butter chicken (extra creamy). Great food and always service with a smile :)
Manish.B
The place for great Indian food!!!. We go to Machan often for dinners and on Sundays for special South Indian lunch. We find the flavours and the texture to be authentic and truly represents North / South Indian cooking. The hospitality and service is excellent. We highy recommend their South Indian Lunch on Satuday or Sunday.
Mutley
Just another Indian restaurant. Ok, so I must disclose I usually get the weekend take away from ginger garlic. Last night though, they were either flat out or closed ( I think the former), so I thought I'd give Machan a second try.

Indian take away is sometimes problematic, as many dishes can be replicated with a few hours work or a good sauce jar, at home. So Indian restaurants really need to make sure they lift above this level and offer something unique. Unfortunately Machan doesn't.

The vege samosas were well done. Full of flavor and a crunchy casing. The lamb Korma was ordinary. Selected bits of dry meat drowning in a light yellow bath of "sauce". The flavor was just too "simmer sausish". The saffron rice did have some scattered yellow grains. The dhal was awful. Too much protein liquid from the dhal or the larger beans, it was really gluggy and bland.

Come on machan. Stop cooking to a price and try something different, to lift you above the other hundred "cookie cutter" Indian restaurants in Melbourne.
Tori Jayne
Lovely service. Great atmosphere. Exceptional food. Price is very reasonable too!
