Third Chapter is one of my regulars. I am never disappointed with portion sizes, value for moneys, and a cold drip coffee. I often come here with friends and we share the Veggie Chapter, Super Fuel Salad for lunch or one of the Chargrilled Skewers for dinner. Highly recommend for open space, comfy chairs and great value for money. Thanks guys!
Highly recommend the big breakfast
Every time I come here, breakfast, lunch or dinner the food is always amazing. Although they can tweak some of there items like the too milky iced chocolate. The coffee, food and other drinks are almost always of a high standard. The service is adequate and atmosphere is lively.
Great place for Sunday breakfast, all meals were delicious and great kids pancakes! Service was prompt and friendly, definitely recommend and will be back.
Came for dinner and could not fault it! Delicious meals, all with very fresh ingredients and huge portions. Service was very attentive without being overpowering. Fantastic experience.
Love this cafe! Food is yummy most of the time. Barista can sometimes be a hit or miss when it comes to making long blacks, however the crazy shakes and hot chocolates are delicious- will definitely be returning!
Amazing food, massive serves!!! Special requests on orders were listened to and followed. Staff were very polite and the place itself was spacious and a good size. Will return!

We are a brunch family and experts at the smashed avocado scene. Recently we went to Third Chapter after changing from The Common which I didn't like. We sat in outside in the autumnal sun surrounded by dogs, friendly people and good. The waitress (wish I got her name) was fantastic and so helpful. Service was good considering how busy they were. Drinks in say 5 minutes. Food in 15 after ordering.
Fresh wholesome food. The big breakfast I saw two guys eating was huge.
Then today I took my daughter here and we had the most lovely saganyaki with figs plus the 600grams of chicken wings and two iced chais. Everything was lovely. This place has found a great formula for attracting a variety of people. Good takeaway, cakes and slices. Dine inside or out. Dietaries catered for.
Good parking which is free. Wheelchair friendly. Toilets are clean. High chair is available.
Highly recommend.
I have been to Third Chapter twice now, and I have loved each visit. The food was fresh and delicious, and very generous servings for the price you pay. Friendly and welcoming staff, service was very good. The salt and pepper calamari salad was very nice. I can’t wait to go back! Will definitely recommend Third Chapter to friends and family.
Well, well, hard to give it a fair score. In old Zomato I would have given it a healthy 3.5, but now I believe 4 is too much. However I certainly recommend. Foods are delicious and clean and location is good & gorgeous with nice staff but not as good as four.
I just noticed that the site says $100 for 2 people. Because of the sheer size of the dishes served here, I feel its around $60-80 for 2 people. We only has the one dish (Chicken Parma) between the 3 of us as we were not hungry...I would struggle to finish it myself even if I was hungry. But the main difference is that everything tasted fantastic, from the crunchy thick juicy chicken breast, great flavoured chips to the thing that brought it all together, that fantastic salad. Fresh, tasty and matched perfectly with the parma. Tempted to go back and try more...apparently they do great brekky here as well!

One word= AMAZING
Despite it being an extremely busy day with no seats available, service and food were both prompt!!
Great atmosphere with lots of dogs around 🐕🐕
Its nice to brunch somewhere that is generous on portion sizes, keep up the good work guys!!!!
My family love 3rd Chapter!
The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is fresh and delicious ( generous serves) and is very central! It is always 'bustling' when I have dined there which says something about their popularity amongst the locals.
Huge servings, friendly service and a great varied me to. Lots of vegan options which is great to see. $7.90 for a “fresh” orange juice (straight out of a bottle, not freshly squeezed) left a bad taste in my mouth but at least the food servings were large to make up for it.
Breakfast was calling on a Sunday morning and third chapter is where we landed. I really liked the feel of the place, funky, busy and welcoming. The staff were friendly and service was prompt. My first piccolo was lovely but the second not so great so a little inconsistent with the coffee. I ordered the açai ado smash with eggs. The serving was huge and they did my eggs perfectly. The flavours and presentation were lovely. The only criticism would be that although the bacon had a lovely flavour, it was chewy as though it had been precooked and left in a warmer. Overall it was a lovely experience and we would return for breakfast again. 😁
I love coming here on weekends for brunch or breakfast. The coffee and breakfast menu is just amazing. I love that they have a little window out the front where you can pop in for a takeaway coffee, so handy !
The atmosphere is lovely and warm. Lots of natural light and greenery inside. I also love that you have the choice to sit at a table or along the window area on big comfy seats for a bite to eat or coffee.
Great space with a busy vibe - best described as pub style food on steroids- generous portions for sure. Service was friendly and speedy. Pick of the night was the grilled calamari.
Sunday brunch with family of 4. Crowded but didn't wait long for a table. Lotsa families with children giving it a warm and cosy ambience. Service very friendly, helpful and attentive. Food and drinks well presented and delicious. Reasonable prices and all said ..... we'll be back again for sure.
Very very good!! Although being extremely busy, the staff were very attentive in finding our group of 5 a table.
The service was excellent, the atmosphere was buzzing and the food was great, I would welcome the idea of another meal here.
Thank TC, you’ve done yourself proud!!
Food was really nice and well presented with lots of variety on the menu. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere and a fresh welcoming environment with lots of greenery. However one of the down sides was the tables were close together and felt like there was little room to move.
The food here is delicious. Came here with 3 friends - we all agreed on the high quality of cooking. I had the vegetarian burger with mushroom. Mushroom was so tasty and side salad delicious. The coffee was great. The seating is a bit crammed in but wait staff are friendly and efficient. Very busy and noisy but acoustics still quite good. Could still hold a conversation. Parking under cover for 2 hours. Would highly recommend.
Always busy and always fresh. Have only ever been in for breakfasts and lunches and am yet to have anything bad. Regularly have the Main Chapter Breakfast (aka Big Breakfast), it's more than enough food and usually sees me sorted until dinner time. Can also recommend the Bacon Benedict in the mornings. I'll have lunch after that for breakfast.
Have had a couple of lunches from the specials board and the burgers too. It's all good. Fresh and tasty.
The coffee is always good and there is a good selection of teas too.
The place does get busy most days from breakfast through to mid-afternoon. It's a popular cafe in the Eltham district. There is something for everyone and I've never heard complaints from anyone I've been in there with.
Never been to third chapter till today! hidden away in Eltham but spoken about a lot! i loved this cafe!!!! definitely need to come back again! The coffee was fabulous, staff were super lovely and food was amazing! i had the salmon on greens and boy it was a delicious salad! i loved how fresh the salmon was and the refreshing flavours of the salad was delish!!!! 😍😍 do recommend this place and i will be back!
I am a local in Eltham and we have lots of cafes but I always find myself going to this wonderful place . Service is spot on with very friendly staff and the food is amazing ! I always recommend this place to outsiders and they too have loved coming .
I’ve never seen a badly presented dish at this place! Having well presented dishes genuinely does keep customers coming back wanting to try more.
When this place first opened staff seemed disinterested, a teeny bit rude, but now with the staff turnover the newbies are welcoming and nice to customers.
The milkshakes are great, the avocado on toast pictured is great, calamari is nice too.
Only downside is sometimes the cutlery/water glasses aren’t cleaned very well.
Worth exploring further ...
Judging by their latte, service and venue and the many other cafes around Eltham ... they "might" have the best $4.00 latte in the most comfortable "green" environment.
I shall explore this further. JT-05/04/2018.
We live close by and have been here quite a few times. Venue is great, staff are very informative and service is great. Have never had a bad meal. Love coming here.
Loving the menu update with more variety of vegan options. Solid coffee, solid sour cream and excellent service to our dogs. Love the outdoor setting for dog and couches inside go down well too
Best avocado on toast in the area/ I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot of avo, the pumpkin bread it’s served on is to die for. Food is large portions so worth the $$ by getting your money’s worth. Coffee is ok, staff are quite lovely.
Went to Third Chapter for brunch today and now I’m struggling to move. The serve sizes are a bit on the larger size of enormous. My daughter and her partner came along, he had the full chapter, which was closer to a complete book. He was a beaten but happy man when we carried him out, a defeat I’d not witnessed previously. My Bacon Benedict was excellent and my wife enjoyed her Salmon stack and my daughter had Avocado Crush which she said was very yummy also. Overall a great value for money experience with a broad menu for most tastes.
Quite a lovely cafe, I had the main chapter big breakfast which was really filling, and my partner had the mushroom burger. Would definitely return if in the area.
Been here multiple times. Consistently good food and good service. Menu is huge, tried quite a bit of it with friends and everyone has always been happy. Eltham really needed some quality cafes!!
Had a nice late lunch here on an outside table. Our waitress was friendly and chatty so we felt very welcome from the start. We shared a plate of the arancini balls and the sweet potato crisps. We loved the cheesiness of the arancini, and the sweet potato chips were lovely and crispy. Unfortunately our mojitos lacked the sweetness we were anticipating.
Food was amazing! Staff were friendly and welcoming and the look of the place is beautiful. It is a bit expensive but the food makes it worth it.
Try the pork belly salad, it was pretty good as the salad well balanced the oily taste of the pizza pork belly
For the drinks I ordered bubbly love , tastes good as well
Third Chapter is a beautiful and spacious café/restaurant in Eltham. Popular for brunch goers, this place is also a favourite for many who prefer the dinner option. Food here is delicious and coffees are great! Service is super attentive and would definitely recommend trying out!. Mojito $15.90 with Barcardi Rum, Mint, Soda Water, Lime and Sugar
Nice cafe, large portion sizes, fast service. I had the fritter dish, I enjoyed it however I’m almost certain they use a pre made veggie burger as a fritter. Would be nice to have a crispy fritter.
Consistently good!! Service great and variety of excellent meals in particular, the kids meals - very generous!!
Love the hot chocolate with a giant marshmallow!
A great local cafe!!
Third Chapter excels as a family-oriented eatery that not only offers up a delicious feed, but great value for money as well. We were pleasantly surprised by this visit, mostly thanks to the more-than-generous portion sizes that are bound to satisfying your hunger, as well as a diverse menu that undoubtedly caters to every taste. Needless to say, we departed, filled to the brim and very pleased.
Nice environment, good seats but dirty, good window wandering who install the window? Can view outside through the windows... breakfast finished at 3pm.
Went here with my sister a few days ago as lots of friends have been saying how cute & great this cafe is & they weren't wrong. As soon as we walked in the door 2 people greeted as and we were taken straight to our table. They were very friendly and the service was fast as well. My sister got the Bircher museli and I got the big breakfast. I've never said this before but this big breakfast defeated me....... I could not finish it and that has never happened before. I loved the potato rosti and the loads of bacon 😍 definitely will come back maybe for lunch next time.
Staff were lovely, warm and welcoming! Food was served within 20 minutes of ordering & was very nice! Parma was quality chicken breast, fresh zesty salad & generous amount of chips! Pasta was a good type of different! Lastly...Restaurant has a nice ambiance.
Wow I was really impressed walking into this large, bright space with beautiful greenery which fitted in perfectly within the leafy suburb of Eltham. This restaurant is hidden away in a side street and I would not have even known it was there had it not been recommended to me.
Third Chapter is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we decided to try the dinner menu on this occasion. Our waitress was lovely and very friendly and chatty. We found the dinner menu not too extensive. We thought perhaps it would be better to come for breakfast or lunch.
We chose the Taramasalata dip for starters, which I thought could use a little more flavour. This was followed by the Peri Peri chicken burger with fries and the “special” soft shell crab burger with sweet potato fries. We both really enjoyed our burgers and those sweet potato fries were delicious.
They have a large selection of mini cakes on display so we decided to share a flourless orange cake with some smooth coffees. Very impressed with both.
The service was very efficient and parking was easy to find on the surrounding streets. I would definitely come back again and try the breakfast/lunch menus. I recommend you book as it was very busy.
Third Chapter is a warm and welcoming restaurant serving unpretentious and generous food for the soul. . The broad menu is inspired by flavours from around the world spanning pastas, burgers and a wide assortment of mains and salads. The space is expansive, bright, airy which is perfect for lounging on a weekend.
Located in a shopping mall in Eltham, Third Chapter is a contemporary cafe with a good vibe. It was very busy and fairly noisy on the Sunday morning I visited, unsurprisingly, but still maintained fairly relaxed ambience. Clearly it is the place to be, as the competition opposite wasn't nearly as well patronised. The purpose-built premises are modern, with a glass facade featuring on the rounded corner block. The dining space is quite large, and the décor comprises a polished concrete floor, and an off-white colour scheme with timber features, decorated with framed wall art and hanging planter stands. The settings comprise chunky timber tables, some with cast iron bases, and a mixture of chairs including some comfy lounge chairs, and some sturdy but plain timber chairs. The service was welcoming and attentive, with several different staff checking to see if I was ready to order , and whether I was enjoying my meal. The waiting staff all wear a smart uniform. The menu was interesting with quite a good range of vegetarian choices. I selected the “veggie chapter” which had a vegan version as an option. Points for this, and for having the initiative to include alternative ingredients, rather than to just omit some. This dish came with a tofu scramble, roasted tomato, wilted spinach, roasted thyme mushrooms and avo smash, and was pretty good. The coffee was also very nice, well prepared. A favourable dining experience, and I would recommend a visit.
First time visit to this new cafe in Eltham, went there for lunch and ended up with the eggs benny which was pretty good, the potato rosti was nice and everything tasted good. Service was quick and friendly and everyone said their meals were pretty good.
by F.E.E.D. | Jul 23, 2017 | Eltham, Melbourne, Modern Australian, RESTAURANTS AND CAFES | 0 comments. Aptly named for being the third venue owned and operated by The Cortesao family, Third Chapter feels like your home away from home. An intimate farmhouse feel exudes from the warm-coloured wooden furnished interior, interspersed with natural greenery on the tables and hanging from the roof. Friendly staff enhance the experience with their subtly attentive disposition, further complementing the family-style hospitality that this venue strives to achieve.
Loving this revamped place. Plenty of options on the menu for main meals, and delicious cakes/treats aplenty for afternoon tea. Quality food and coffees. It's always busy so don't be surprised at a little extra wait for your food. The service is fantastic and very accommodating - this place is very popular wit@h families and mothers groups and they'll rearrange things to fit your prams! Booking in advance though is recommended, I feel lucky to have been able to squeeze in unannounced every time so far. One of my favourite dine-in cafes of choice in the area for sure.
Nothing but amazing words to say about Third Chapter. The service was absolutely amazing - the staff were welcoming on arrival and always quick to grab our orders or attend to anything we needed.
The food was phenomenal - portion sizes were MASSIVE and everything looked so colourful and fresh. The taste was not lacking either, especially the burger and desserts. We didn't have to wait lon either, which is always a plus!
Will definitely be returning soon, and recommending Third Chapter to all my friends in the area!
We were pleasantly treated to such a delicious lunch from The Third Chapter Chicken Parma, A Salmon stack and their special of the day Seafood Paella. This definitely made our day satisfying!
The Chicken Parma was tender and tasty with generous servings of rocket and cheese shavings. That salad was delicious with a light dressing. The accompanying chips had a real nice crispy coating and just made the meal all that more appetising!
The Seafood Paella was delicious and well worth it which included a lot of prawns and mussels and other additions!
The Salmon Stack had top ingredients and generous serving of beans and salmon.
Lastly the coffee here is absolutely divine, smooth and creamy for us.
The kids even enjoyed their $1 baby chino and the friendly staff kindly asked for the manager for complimentary marshmallows for us too. Will definitely come again to this place for brunch and lunch!
Loving places which make it easy with a pram and are uber child-friendly. A quick pittstop for coffee, hot chocolate, a vanilla slice and a lemon meringue tart. Great service. Thanks.
Really like it here. Been twice. Once for lunch, today for breakfast. Both meals were really tasty. I had grilled salmon for lunch which was cooked well and a very generous portion. Today, I had
Smashed avocado on pumpkin sourdough. This was delicious. The pumpkin sourdough was especially nice. It's a busy place, but service was prompt and friendly. I look forward to returning soon.
I really like this place. The kids loves the crazy shakes, service friendly and a nice risotto. Much better than the common and very family friendly
I had a day out to the Diamond Valley Miniature Train with my sister and her two young sons. A friend recommended the Second Home, but we couldn't find any parking nearby, that's how we accidentally ended up at Third Chapter, where is surrounded by car parks.
Beautifully interior and ambiance, comfortable chairs and tables. I love their beautiful bonsai on each table. Waiting staff are all young but extremely attentive, polite and patient with our two boys. We ordered kid's schnitzel and chips, kid's pancakes, mushroom burger and Egg Benedict, one chai latte, one caffe latte and two soft drinks. They are not cheap but all the meal dishes were all yummy and satisfying. The chips were all properly fried (bonus 0.5 score for that). We will be back next time.
Had a great mother's day brunch and felt totally looked after by Erin. After being double booked at another cafe in Eltham, Erin went out of her way to find us a table on what was clearly a very busy morning. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back. Thank you Third Chapter Eatery!
Formally 'the Common' in Eltham, Third Chapter retains much of the vibrancy of the old place but a revamp of the coffee bar and seating makes this iteration of the Cafe somehow lighter and more friendly.
The coffee is still good, rich and nutty with a bite of caramel. The menu is more regular these days, more standard fare and less of the shared plate experience, but there is still enough to differentiate it from a run of the mill joint.
It is therefore somewhat saddening to report that on our second visit to Third Chapter we were disappointed with the experience, the soy Cappuccino that arrive was curdled and the foam was lumpy. The latte was excellent however. Our breakfast consisted of Dr Marty's excellent crumpets with whipped marscapone and preserves. The hotcakes however, were more cool cakes and lacking in fluff and temperature. Sawing was required to get through the first of three and the ice-cream nestling on top was not getting sufficient heat to melt.
A saving grace however, is the service. It's always friendly and when we came to pay the bill they removed the offending item without rancour or complaint.
I hope I can close the book on the poor food (ha-a-haha) and open a new chapter next time we visit.

Featured In The Pictures: The Main Chapter + Death By Chocolate. At The The Main Chapter Today I experienced: Lovely atmosphere. Excellent range of food + drinks. Friendly service with a smile. It has popularity with locals. Great amount of indoor + outdoor seating. ( Including soft padded seating inside. *As an option. )
Nicely lit. With lots of beautiful big windows. 👏👏👏
French toast looked beautiful, tasted good, quick service. Wedges were nice and crispy but a few too many discoloured ones. Toddler loved her cheese toast fingers. Prices slightly above average.
Great breakfast selection and great portion sizes, homey feel, and great takeaway coffee.
Such a beautiful venue, food is gorgeous and well-timed (meals come out together when in a group) and food is spectacular 😋
We were there 15/7/22. Food was great and the waiters were absolutely lovely. A few of us were there and we all commented on how good the staff were. Well done. Will definitely be back.
Really tasty food and friendly service, but the bill can climb up really quickly if you put in a couple of entrees. Happy to pay for quality, but $190 for 3 person dinner (no drinks) is getting a bit carried away.
