Review Curry Leaf Cafe - Elwood

Foodie Queen21
Get yourself the one of the best Indian food from Curry Leaf Cafe located in Elwood ‼️ This family-run & owned restaurant has been standing for SEVENTEEN (17) years 🤯 has won so many awards 🏅 AND visits from famous Australians 🙊 We had their Royal Feast 1 ($35pp) and got: 🔼 Samosas Best samosas we’ve ever had for sure! It came out hot & crispy, tasted homemade. 🍗 Chicken Tikka This was well marinated & the smoky flavor from being cooked in the Tandoor really shone through. 🍖 Lamb Shank Curry Super tender, melt-in-your-mouth lamb. Curry flavor was great to complement the flavor of the lamb itself. This was perfect being eaten with the papadams & raita (yogurt) to have that contrast of crispy & soft texture in one bite. 🥘 Butter Chicken Easily the best we’ve ever had! I’m obsessed with the smokiness flavor and the well balanced sweet & savory levels. This was perfect with naan or rice (+ raita if you’d like). Definitely my favorite! ⭐️ ++ sides: rice, papadams, chutney, dips, naan, raita (yogurt) ** Free to choose 2 curries from the menu too This feast is such a good deal. They’re very welcoming to your taste (spiciness level, etc) as well as generous with their portions 🥰 Time your feast well with their 💃🏻 Happy Hour session 💃🏻 (4:30pm - 5:30pm AND 8:30 - 9:30pm) to get $10 Cocktails or Mocktails 😋 We highly recommend you to visit this place, not only you’re supporting Australian businesses, you’re also getting a great deal on delicious food & drinks ‼️

Curry leaf cafe is a hidden gem! Great service and chilled atmosphere, the food is sublime, succulent crispy paneer, there is so many rice options and the mango lassi is to die for! I tried the Lycheetini and loved it. Please support small business, high quality innovative indian cuisine!

Top class Indian food, polite professional service with a smile and lots of protein in curry mains. Cater for all spice levels on a 1 to 10 scale, so even spicier dishes can be fined down or mild ones toned up on request. Nice ambiance but small restaurant allowing better service and food prep which shows in the tasty and high quality food. Will be returning.

Be very careful while ordering food because we ordered 3 thalis and there was a poster which clearly said each thali is $15 (inc free tea). When we got our bill we were surprised that they charged $17 for each thali and $11.70 for 3 tea also. When asked they said the poster is old. Now rates are increased. That’s also ok but when we ordered we clearly pointed toward that poster. It clearly said free tea. Anyways, never going back again. Food was not great. Curries were sweet. Not authentic Indian Food at all.

What can one say… 2 1/2 hours late to be kind, I called after 1 1/2 hours and the lady said she’d find out where the driver was and let me know straight away… Didn’t hear back. Driver finally arrived with no acknowledgment of lateness. I had ordered a six pack of asahi to sip on whilst watching the Friday night footy, which they substituted with cheap as chips kingfisher lager. The roti bread was missing.. in place was a well crushed bag of papadums. So very very disappointed

Put thru an online order tonight at 5.25, I was notified that it would be ready at 6.24 for delivery, I rang the restaurant at 6.46 to be told that it was on the way, I live 800 meters from the restaurant, by 7pm I rang again to say that it had not arrived, again I was told that it was very nearby, after several calls I eventually got my order at 7.20, 2 hours after I ordered. I am all for giving local places a go but seriously to say that the order is on the way again and again and again and they would discount me, I was not looking for a discount to to say this and not go thru with it..very bad service, they said they were very busy but 2 hrs for an online order @5.30...sorry but this is terrible..will not order again, when u are paying 142 dollars its not enough to say we are very busy..very poor service

Visited this place yesterday night. The seating and service was good. I ordered kadhai paneer, butter chicken, butter naan, rice. The quantity was very good. As far as taste is concerned, kadhai paneer and butter naan were very good (4/5), butter chicken was kind of average to above average. Overall, a great place.

One of my favourite Indian restaurants in Melbourne. Always have good meals here.

We ordered claypot chicken, butter chicken and palak paneer. They asked how spicy we wanted it on a scale on 1-10 and we said 7. Claypot chicken was delicious! Probably the best I’ve had in melbourne. Butter chicken lacked flavour and it’s curry tasted like tomato sauce with too much sugar. Palak paneer and Naan were both very good. We asked them to make our naans crispy and they were perfect!
Great little place, they just need to do something about their butter chicken recipe as I noticed other reviews also complaining about the lack of flavour in butter chicken.
Ann
The food itself I found lacking in depth of flavour. We had the butter chicken and palak paneer with Garlic naan. The Chicken and paneer itself were fresh, but the gravy was lacking in flavour I.e butter chicken didn’t have the silky texture of normal flavour - rather tasted mainly of tomatoes only.

The server on the other hand was amazing! He was the guy with the beard. He was very polite, courteous and just a lovely personality. Went out of the way to be polite and make us feel comfortable at the restaurant.

The restaurant itself was quite empty at 7pm. But a handful of take away orders were being prepared.

Overall not bad, but felt like the depths of flavours were a let down.

Who puts aloo in Chicken Biryani ? I mean do you have Indian Chef to cook or else if not then also none of the Chicken Biryani recepie would have potato in it, that too when you are charging 15.99aud plus 5aud delivery via Uber ! Naan were more like thick tandoori roti with garlic paste ! Pls stop charging people so much money in the name of authentic indian food. Dont think that JUST BECAUSE people can’t return your food on uber eats so you can send anything.. they can still rate you pathetic at other social media websites ~ PS- Hungry, Frustrated Indian who spent 45aud and got less than averagefood.

We popped in on a friday night for dinner. It is a small little place on Brighton road. We requested for Hara Bhara Kebab which isn’t on the menu and the chef was kind enough to make that for us. It was really kind of the chef to do it. It was really delicious. We also got a Palak Paneer and Kadhai Paneer. Both delicious again! To go with the curry we got Garlic Naans which could have been better. Overall a 3.5/5 for the food and 3.5/5 for the ambience.

I like that they ask you what heat you want out of ten, we said a 7 and it was bang on. Both curries we got were full of flavour, two curries a naan and a small rice is enough for most in terms of size, and it’s absolutely delicious with great service.

What a wonderful surprise this cafe was! Delicious Indian, great service, well priced and byo - helps having a Vintage Cellars right next door too! Best curry I’ve had in years. Literally. I’ll be back!! Yum!

This place has been here for ages and with good reason. Been meaning to come here just as long and it didn't disappoint. Chicken tikka was excellent and the curries really good also. Really friendly service. A very small venue with only 2 tables inside and 3 outside, but very pleasant to dine in nonetheless without feeling cramped.
Red Mind
Beautiful attention by the owner, accompanied by a delightful set of traditional Indian food, in a nice place...what else can I ask? Thank you guys.
Jayesh
great place to be, authentic indie food, amazing hospitality, and comfortable environment. the lamb curry and keema roti is the best. BYO if you wish to get some of your own wine or whiskey.

Have been to this restaurant many years ago, the quality of food and service are just as good as it was, if not better. We ordered butter chicken, chicken masala, curry potatoes and beans, and three lamb samosas, all were delicious and we have emptied the plates. Only thing is that I remembered the food was a lot spicier before. Will definitely return.
Casey Davis
Really delicious curry with a tonne of different vegetarian options. Im in love with this place and its also BYO! Thanks guys we will be coming back soon!

Had ordered Seekh Kebab and a Chicken gravy via Uber Eats.

Seekh Kebab was yum. Chicken gravy was a let down....though better than the food served by some so-called Indian Restaurants.

The color in food was too much to handle.

Nothing but friendly service and delicious food. We have many dietary requirements and the staff there can never do enough to ensure that our needs are met and we can safely enjoy the experience. Highly recommended, do yourself a favour and check it out.

The food was delicious and the service was quick. One of the better mango lassis we’ve tasted and of a generous portion too. The spice was spot on after we were asked to pick on a scale of 1-10 before ordering.
Quite happy with our dinner and would definitely be going back.
Lauren Thomson
Fantastic! Have ordered from Menulog before but decided to dine in tonight. Food was served very promptly and was delicious. We had lamb rogan josh, chicken Punjab saag with rice and potato naan. Owner and staff are very friendly. Totally recommend to anyone! Takeaway is good but atmosphere dine in at as even better!!
Silver Spoon
After spending nearly $38.00 via Menulog from these guys what you get as a main mixed grill platter is 1piece of quarter seekh kebab which is over cooked and full of food colouring, 1piece of Lamb chop ( The Lamb was starved for a month before slaughter) , 1 piece of chicken ( must be left over from other meals) and a dry, dehydrated with no oil Parantha. Guys your are an experts in ripping people off. If I would have given this food to my dog he will run away from my house. I spoke to the owner/ chef and his claim was that now a days meat is very expensive ( sir I have ordered a simple Indian mixed grill not an Abalone with Gold Caviar). Please look into your cooking skills and management. No apologies from the management as yet for such a disgusting food. I have to order Domino's pizza at 10:30pm to feed my stomach after a long day at work. PLEASE LOOK INTO IT AND FIX THE THINGS. SERVE WELL AND TREAT PEOPLE RESPECFULLY, THE PROFITS WILL FOLLOW.

This is the place to avoid in Melbourne for Indian cuisine. Worst ever Veg Biryani and Veg Manchurian. Portions s are inappropriate. Taste is bland. I can't tell about the service as I ordered from Uber and got pretty much on estimated time.

Curry Leaf cafe is a lovely Indian restaurant with charm, Mili and her husband are wonderful hosts. The restaurant sitting is comfortable and clean, I would of definitely missed it passing by so I am so happy to have been invited here tonight. To start with we ordered the garlic chilli prawns and the soft shell crab. The prawns were crunchy and seasoned well, the accompaniment of the mint sauce and a chilli paste added warmth and heat to the dish. The soft shell crab, unfortunately for me wasn’t a favourable dish. The crab wasn’t as crunchy as I would of liked, a little oily and soggy. There wasn’t any real flavours to it which did let it down a little. For mains we ordered the butter chicken, lamb kashmiri korma with naan bread and lemon coconut rice. These were absolutely delicious and full of rich spices and flavour. Perfect portion sizes and I am so happy that delivery is within a few kms from where I live as I would definitely order take away from here. This is a very nice family run restaurant and I recommend a visit here to try their delicious curries. Thank you Mili and team for such a delightful night :)
Good Food Good Mood
An absolutely delicious find and stunning interiors to boot. The inside feels romantic and exotic and the food authentic and full of flavour. Definitely one of my favourite butter chicken experiences in Melbourne. I'll undoubtedly be back

We've only ever order take out from here, so I can't comment on the atmosphere or service from within the restaurant. The curries are ok, they seem to use high quality ingredients but for me the flavours just didn't really work in either dish that we ordered. Could just be my personal preference, but I found they were over-dominated by one or two flavours and you didn't get that lovely blend of spices you would normally get with an Indian dish.

Love the food good service good coffee will come back again try another things on the menu thank you guys keep up the good work will see you shortly

Excellent food and prompt service. However, we were disappointed that there were two extra charges we weren't told about until we paid the bill. A flat end to an enjoyable night.
TC
Our trusted local go-to for a great curry. Everyone who works here is super friendly and helpful. They do fantastic vegan curries.. the vegan korma and pumpkin masala are my favourites. The side dishes are all lovely too. I only wish the servings were slightly larger as it's so tasty.
Custard Queen
Great Indian food, the chicken claypot is my favourite. Probably the best home delivery around locally- with dishes that taste just as good as if eating in the restaurant. The almond custard dessert is nice (not sweet) and the samosa are worth a try. I'm currently obsessed with their onion rings!
Anne Kanokwan
We're ordered delivery and waiting 1 hrs for our dinner. After see all food and ate we're not happy ! no flavor (curry, naan) !! Disappointed !!!
Penguineats
It was overall a very enjoyable and delicious Indian meal. The flavour profiles of all the dishes were flawless, and it is evident that there’s a wealth of experience behind the kitchen. Chef Jeet, who has worked at countless high end establishments and even taught at the Angliss culinary school, has definitely succeeded in delivering authentic Indian food to anyone who’s chanced upon this otherwise unassuming eatery.
Foodie Z
I've had dinner here and to takeaway a few times. All food was very nice. Only tip would be not to order your currys mild unless you really don't like spicy food. It turned out to be too mild for us. We ordered a few different currys each time to try them all and they were all delicious. Big portions too. Overall, a great local curry house.

Great service and and always happy to assist. Food is always amazing and arrives on time. Would always reorder. And recommend to everyone .

One of my all time fav Indian. Warm service (I think it might be a family run business). It's more similar to going to a friends house than eating in a restaurant. Very welcoming and yummy food.

If celebrity chef and judge Matt Preston gave Curry Leaf the seal of approval, then it's our duty as Indian food lovers to find out why! Once there, a single step beyond the small reception/take-away area will land you firmly in a warm, romantic dining room ... And the food? Well, you'll need to ↓↓ click the link below ↓↓ to find out what we thought of Chef Jeet's food....

The best Indian food in Melbourne! I love that when you call for home delivery, they see your number come up, tell you what you had last time, how spicy you requested and you can order the same again and ask for 1 level hotter or 1 level down. Then ask if you want it charged to the same credit card as last time. So quick and easy! They always deliver faster than they promise, have very friendly customer service and amazing food!
Thomashunter450
Amazing. Not only is the food amazing, the service is great also with suggestions on what we might like to try next as they keep records of what we had last time. Highly recommend.

The food was nice - fresh and tasty. I wouldn't cross town for it but if I lived near by I would definitely go back.

Wow. Best Indian I've had in Melbourne. It's an unassuming little place on Brighton Rd, holds probably 40 people? It looks like a takeaway shop from the street, but the dining room opens off to the right of the shopfront. Booking was easy, and the service was fantastic. Parking was pretty difficult to find, but we really like the ambience of the place. Bollywood video clips playing on the wall-mounted plasma was a nice touch. The waiter was great in terms of information, and they were great with a table of eight who were clueless about Indian and had no idea what to order. The pappadums were very nice (if SLIGHTLY oily), and the dips very good. Entrée was vegetarian Samosas (large) and Chicken Tikka, both very tasty, and the salad that came with them was also distinctive in flavour
ShoshanaW
Delhicious.... Romantic warm ambience
We loved the chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh...
Best flakey fluffy filled naans we've had
Friendly professional service
Restaurant quality Indian, not just for a casual takeaway
We'll definitely be coming back
The Waitress
Curry Leaf Cafe! Thank you for saving my life by delivering my take away so promptly. Menu log did a great deal for $40 including delivery. 2 curries, 2 veg samosas, lg rice, raita, papadums and 2 naans.

Food and service. The service was great very friendly.
The food was to die for, very appealing and by far one of the best Indian restaurants iv been too.

Yum yum yum!. We purchased the groupon for 2, went for brunch food was tasty and fresh service good and I ate a bit too much, did not eat for the rest of the day.
Told our friends about curry leaf then went for dinnner on boxing day same good result 6 thumbs up by the crew.

Nice intimate and friendly atmosphere. We visited the curry leaf indian cafe for lunch on Friday 19th December 2014. We were down from the country and enjoyed the 18 minute tram trip from flinders street to the restaurant. The number 67 tram stopped right outside the restaurant.
I must say that we found the whole experience enjoyable, from the very friendly staff to a chat with the welcoming chef who knows how to cook really tasty indian cuisine. It was absolutely delicious. It is a smaller restaurant which we found to have an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. We spoke to other patrons who were also dining there for lunch and they were also very impressed with the excellent food.
We will certainly be re visiting there for another meal next time we are visiting Melbourne.
We would highly recommend it.
Regards Paul and Colleen B.

Delish. Loving this place, I go here on my lunch break from work and it's always delicious. Love the Bombay potatoes and Samosas.

Excellent Meal - one of a kind. The curry leaf is an excellent restaurant and I could not recommend a place more than this for the best Indian food in Melbourne

Having received a Good Food Gift Card we decided to visit the Curry Leaf. The service was wonderful, staff were friendly and attentive. We had the banquet, our choices for the mains were flexible and there were no issues. The food was amazing, flavoursome and good serving sizes. Thank you for a lovely night and we will be back. PS Naan is absolutely perfect!!

Great curries with a super friendly service. A nice local Indian curry place. Being literally around the corner from our place we trend to opt for take away rather than dining in.

However we have always found the service friendly especially the owners - who actually engage us with genuine conversation.

To the food... Simply put - great. We have found that the food is always fresh, especially the curries. Much better than some of the other cheap curry houses out there - which generally have dubiously thickened curries/sauces. In fact living around the corner for Curry Leaf I can always smell then prepping up!
Andy Craig
Get down here. Lamb rogan was lovely and full of flavour. And tender pieces of lamb. And the Alu gobhi mutter was exceptional. Could not fault it. Keep up the good work guys.
Mili Sidhu
Restaurant Owner. Recently a lot of our sutomers gave us positove reviews at our restaurant
We updated these on Urbanspoon with permission frok our customers
However Urbanspoon has deleted these postive 40 or so reviews and left only the negative ones on our website which also we are yet to receive a response from our customer This is a misrepresentaion of our business and we would like all readers or Urbanspoon to be aware of how unfair their policies are towards a business owner
I have copied and pasted all reviews and emailed these to Urbanspoon so they could see these were genuine however they refuse to republish these
Therefore I urge all users of urbanspoon to make a decision on should they actuallly be using a platform that is unfair to the very business owners that allow this Urbanspoon to exist

Local Legends. I've been dining at Elwood's Curry Leaf Cafe for almost 9 years. Over this time the service has always been friendly and efficient. The meals are invariably tasty and filling, with good sized portions at a reasonable price. No doubt I'll be back again soon.
Rose456
Horrible food but best service. The food tastes really bad, worst presentation of food ,food was terrible, but nick he gives the best service best cocktail, very friendly nature, very good man, the girls serving food seems unexperienced.
Roger Grose
Just have what Nik recommends. All fantastic, the rose petal dessert even better!
Guydavidau
Waste of time and money, worst service ever. Booked a table for 4 on Wednesday, had to wait for over 30 minutes to be seated and almost an hour to get the food, lousy service like this place has is something i'v never seen in my 30 years of age, food is far from fresh, not very tasty for indian food, small portions, overpriced, very dirty, and place stinks, don't recommend it
KatMmm
We ate here on a Monday night after seeing the $29.90pp banquet offered on a board outside. It included (per person): 3 dips, small garden salad; 2 pieces each of sheekh kebab balls, chicken tikka, garlic chilli fish; and one main plate with 1 plain naan, rice and a curry (about 10 meat pieces).
The restaurant was fairly busy for a Monday, and the service was friendly, although not entirely competent.
The entrees were generally good. The highlight was the three dips - all really good! The fish, while tasty, had no chilli or garlic. The sheekh and tikka taste very tomatoey and sweet.
The mains were disappointing. We ordered a medium vindaloo and rogan josh and received a super-mild (read no chilli at all) butter chicken and rogan josh. They were also super-sweet and the rice was dry and bland.
When we went to pay, not only did they refuse to honour an Entertainment Book 25% voucher (no conditions mentioned on the sign or the voucher), they also charged a credit card surcharge without informing us.
We'll definitely not be back.
Tfrochot
Great value with friendly service.. A short pleasant walk from St Kilda across the botanical garden to the restaurant. Our very friendly waiter greeted us and we enjoyed some very good food. Quite a few Indian customers which we took as a good indicator for the authenticity of the food. We recommend very highly.
Nina
The Groupon vouchers they are selling is a cheat and rip off. "All you can eat" is not what it seems. Make sure you call them before buying any deal from this restaurant.
Johan
The food was really good .i never had before like that .
Wazma
Unlike the indian resturants ive been to this was the best at the right masalas! If you love food thats spicy this is at its best. Setting is calm service is great plus menu looks good especially breakfast menu! You have to try it!
Chetan
I had good experience having our Dinner their Last week
Services was really good and Food was so Delicious as well as nicely garnish never Tasted Tasty Indian Food then Curry leaf in Melbourne.
I was amaze by prompt service and variety of option to choose from to eat what we wanted
Mohammed
Good food professional service coming here on voucher since 1year twice in a month never felt any difference cheers curry leaf
Nathan C
Honestly the worst indian i have had in ages, waited 30 mins for entree then another 25 mins for our mains which left a lot to be desired...customer service on entry was impeccable but everything else was a disaster.will not be returning!
Laura D
Love it. Been to this place many times and 3times with the vouchers .food is great service usually good .did not find any difference visiting the place with a voucher or without .the curry leaf chicken is the best .my favourite !!!!!
Dinar Malek
We have been customers for 4 years now, fan of their food, exceptional customer service and great owners. Always get looked after. Will keep coming always :)

Lovely food, as well as staff, enjoyed the desserts n will go back very soon no doubt, Nick very pleasant stuff
Alex
Great food and professional service! Special Indian decoration style and music that I feel warm and romantic. The owner, Ms Mili's very nice and attentive. I will come back.! High recommendation for all my friends coming here and enjoy!
David Pham
Best service i have had. Good food! Fell comfortable when i was there.
Lorna
We bought a voucher for this restaurant. We found the food very very bland. We asked for medium there was no hint of spice at all. The onion bahjai was onion rings which had clearly been fried from frozen. Very very disappointing.
Rob
This use to be a favourite but after last visit its off the list crab that smelt of ammonia combined with in edible butter chicken and a credit surcharge even though we were paying cash seems milli has let the game go
Dave
Hot tip: This Curry Leaf sucks! DON'T GO THERE!!!

Food bland, service poor and the management are greedy pricks.

For the same money you can do soooo much better in Melbourne than these clowns. After such a poor experience I will be making sure both I and all of my Elwood/st kilda mates never go there again.
D'jenkins
Pleasantly surprised. I have to admit I had lowered my expectations after reading a lot of the reviews here. My partner and I dined here on a Friday night and contrary to most reviews, first up we found that the service was really good. Both the waiters that attended to us were very helpful and polite. The food was also exceptional - we had the butter chicken, eggplant masala & navratan korma with sides of naan. Finished off our meal with gulab jamun served with vanilla ice cream, which we both loved! We were there on a voucher - $29 for $70 worth of food which ended up being plenty! Highly recommend this place.
Diane
Very content. Went on a voucher with my son, and was greatly impressed, the service was good, prompt and the selection for the voucher was anything on the menu except the seafood up to the value of the voucher (in this case $70.00) although initially the servings might appear to be small, at the end of the meal, we were both full, grealty recommend them.. Well done to Curry Leaf!
Paula
Too less. We used a voucher for 2 people, for entree, main and glass of wine each! we then received half glass of wine each, in which was from a cask as they did not get it from the bar, they went out the back to fill our glasses, yes they were half full, we left hungry due to them giving us 1 entree in which they halved. 2 little meat balls each, the main course was very small, the service was not good. i'm sure they write their own reviews, we shall never go their again. thought we would warn all of you that think the voucher is a bargain lol
Vic Cook
I just cannot believe that everyone is so negative about this place.. We've eaten in, got take away and had cudo deals and we both feel like we were looked after and the food is gorgeous every time.
Kylie Tann
Got food from here to try because it's cheaper than my local Indian place however was over charged a few dollars and tried to add it up and then when she said something was for free I should have translated that into ure being charged!! No good
Sarah
Hate the food and the customer service is so shocking no one there looks happy and the place look really dirty there is no room to eat with out bumping into the people next to us or with out here there life story nd the music is always the same nd never seams to change don't like it when people have to reach over us to give us the food and to take our plates Im never going back there if things don't change and the deal things is such a rip off or should I say a joke.
Marie Birkensleigh
What a let down. Food was good - but there is where it ends. Shocking service, staff on the night were totally out of their depth. The right hand had no idea what the left was up to. Got the wrong dishes, incorrect drinks and finally the guys' bill next to us which was clearly for 2 people not for 4 - OMG - what a nightmare!
Sj
Rude face to Indians .... Very uninviting to Indian customers...They fraud on their cudo voucher deals and offered us a set deal menu which did not had dishes published in Cudo deals....we are vegetarians and they only had Daals to offer as veg curry .....and charged additonal money for veg curries ....NEVER again .....and on top of it ...rude expressions and gestures ...think it was with color of skin ..they don't like their own color it seems ...
Helbell
Helen. We really enjoyed our experience at Curry Leaf Restaurant, using our Voucher.
Not only was the food really good, but the service provided by our waitress Karen was exceptional - she really made the night for us.
Highly recommend going to Curry Leaf - will certainly go back.

Worst ever food and service. Worst food ever I had in my life.zero customer service and they fraud about that groupons deal.i suggest to avoid that place...try somewhere but don't that place...sorry but I had twice bad experience.

My Feedback. I have bought the Groupon Coupon for 6 people to try your restaurant
you had different menu for Voucher people and there was no service.
I did spend $100 on the Voucher , it was not for free and now i regret that i should have gone to McDonald as i didn't get the level of service, food was just Ok and they don't give much choice to choose from
Rishin11
Discrimination. Bought 'unlimited' food voucher and went there on 08/11/12. I didn't have any problems booking a table for two of us. However, it went downhill from there. I was expecting unlimited everything on the set menu. However, the starters were once-off and so were desserts which we later realised. The food the restaurant was offering as unlimited was the Mains. Here comes the discrimination against the Vegetarians. The Mains menu had total 4 options. Two non-veg options, third was Dal Tadka and fourth was Dal Makhani! Two dals for vegetarians. Dal (a.k.a. Lentil soup) in India is a side food, never mains. I had to pay extra for a Vegetarian dish. Plus an extra roti also cost me money. The glass of wine they filled was less than a quarter full. The service was poor which you can blame of lack of space. Twice the staff walked by knocking cutlery off our table without any apologies. I would say - Vegetarians dont bother going there. There are lot of other and much better choices. The food was tasty, however I ended up paying more than what I would have without buying a voucher.
LivingAnExaminedLife
Avoid! Food is bland and GroupOn/LivingSocial customers are treated poorly. Fixed coupon menu is dull and no substitutions allowed.
Yd
Disgusting food. Cheap owners n customer service is sad; specially the lady taking the booking over the phone treats u very bad if u have groupon.

Indian feast with voucher deal. I will not return to Curry leaf as my all inclusive voucher deal did NOT
include Samosas (paid $16 extra)...Any main..I requested Tandoori chicken..
That main was not available..& paid extra $10 on top.
2nd glass wine was a thimbleful of unknown..sent back ,replaced & charged further $16......total extra $53...Complaint response from (cudo) was
very conciliatory but quite UNDERwhelming. Fine print very misleading!

Horrible service!!. 4 of us went to Curry Leaf last night because we bought a Groupon deal online. The lady taking our booking was rude on the phone. Addition to that, the service that was provided to us during the dinner was horrible. We finished our curry dish and wanting to order the next but we were told that we have to finish up the SAUCE as well even though we have finished all the contents. How ridiculous is this? Plus, the sauce taste bad! (too sweet).

Best Butter chicken ever! I go there at least once a month.

Positive experience with voucher. Recently visited Curry Leaf on a weeknight using a Groupon 'all you can eat' mains voucher.

Pros: Chicken Tikka entree, Chicken Makhani, Chicken Tikka Massala, Lamb Rogan Josh, Naan Bread, Deserts, service

Cons: Dahl Massala was almost inedible, agree with others the portion of wine was pretty small.

Overall, we had a great meal, service was very friendly, and extremely quick. We were seated in the main part of the restaurant, and at no stage did we feel that we were being treated as inferior because we were using a voucher. I'd go back there without a voucher.

Will not go back again, Not with voucher at least. This is our firt time to this place, and we were using the Groupon voucher, we live not far, so I thought if the dining experience is good, we'd definitely make this one a regular spot.

however as soon as we walk in, this restaurant put us in the back room, away from everyone, and this room is obviously JUST for voucher user...which I don't really mind that, but it did makes us feels like 2nd class citizen.
I guess some restaurant does that so they can easily manage, though I have to say, I've used a lots of vouchers, and never been to a restaurant does this arrangement.

when they bring up the food, it says all you can eat on the voucher, but on the voucher menu (yes they also have a menu JUST for voucher user), it also say one meal per perosn, which is a bit confusing; also we've served by at least 3 different waiter/waiteress, none of them has mentioned or asked us if we wanna order more, I did know we can order more, but as the food wasn't that impressive at all, and we didn't wanna get full by no-so-good food.

the entry was chicken tikka, and veg samosa, and that was it, you don't have any other choice, these 2 were just ok.
the main we order some lamb curry, very avarage.
the dessert we order mango icecream, DO NOT ordre that, it taste obviously expired.....

overall the dining experience was not good at all, I believe this restaurant is gerenally good, because there were a lots of table when it was only 5:30pm, however just the way they treat voucher user, I don't like it at all.
I guess the whole purpose of prompting voucher is wanting people to go backa again, and willing to spend money on the food and service, which I do not see that happen in this restaurant in the future, at least not for me.

btw, when we walk out, I noticed the rice in the "regular" customer's table....they have 2 colors of rice!! even rice is different for voucher user! aka 2nd class customers!

Great!. Groupon voucher. We had a great meal, and definitely got a great deal. Two hours was ample time to have our fill. The entrees were fine, a nice start to the dining experience at Curry Leaf. But the mains were delicious! My wife and I shared serves of butter chicken and mixed vegetable korma. Both were lovely meals, extremely flavoursome, not hot/spicy, mild as stated on the menu. Naan was great also. Following these two mains, two separate waiters tried to bring our desserts. I assume this is to get Groupon customers out the door, however we simply stated, politely, that we had not finished ordering mains. This was accepted and we moved on to one more main dish to share, accompanied by another serve of naan. We wolfed down this third great dish, then we had our desserts.

I would definitely recommend this place, with or without a voucher. I would have no qualms with returning if the opportunity arises. Service, food and ambience is very good. Wait staff are attendant without being pushy. Food is brought out in an appropriate timeframe. Quality of food is awesome. Serving sizes are not too small or big. We viewed the full menu, and general prices look reasonable.

Really average. Very disappointed as we just got a big saturday night delivery and it was really average. The lamb rogan josh was tough and had a funny taste...not sure if it was the overall poor quality meat or the sauce or both. The meat samosas were horrible, very doughy with a paste like filling... not sure what type of meat was in there? The Dahl was watery but the best part of the meal along with the crispy pappadoms and the nan was raw and not fully cooked. We are use to having great Indian as we lived in the UK and have not found anything that compares here in Melbourne and surprised this place got good reviews as it was extremely average and poor value.

A great restaurant marred by a voucher program!. About the voucher debacle:
I see a lot of people on here with stories of poor service/food. I also noticed that people appear to be treated to a poor level of service/food if they're supplying a voucher (of which many of you are). In fact, the very first question I was asked when making a booking was "do you have a voucher?".

I imagine this is the restaurant's reaction to an unanticipated influx of those with vouchers (ie Groupon) and how it affects their profits. My guess is that someone high up (manager, perhaps owner) decided that getting on the voucher train was essential and completely underestimated the future demand (the power of the internet / social media!). Now it's a problem they aren't able to get out of presumably until voucher expiry.

I'm not defending or excusing what appears to be a poor experience to those presenting legitimate vouchers, I'm just attempting to explain how this might have happened.

Which is a shame, because I found the restaurant (without a voucher) to be great.

About the service/food (no voucher):
We had samosas for entree and they were some of the best I've had in Melbourne. A good start!

Then we ordered the Chili Chicken (described as the chef's special) and a Vindaloo. Rice and garlic naan. The friendly waitress asked us to rate out of 10 how hot we wanted both dishes (which usually come fairly hot by 'default'). We chose 7. This was pretty spicy, though as someone who enjoys chili, I might ask for an 8 or 9 next time. The curry itself was some of the best I've had in Melbourne. Especially for the price. I'd say it rivals or perhaps even beats Red Pepper in the CBD.

The food came out promptly and even without a voucher, the bill came to $60 for two, with a beer each.

This appears to be a great, reasonably priced restaurant that has a voucher problem. It'd be a shame if mismanagement of their voucher program was the aspect that ultimately killed a pretty great restaurant.

Just plain bad. Simply crap, the most underwhelming and bland Indian food I've ever come across
