Review Hummingbird Elwood Cafe - Elwood

The cafe was clean and staff were really friendly. Our food was very delicious, the servings were large and tasty and the coffee was 9/10 I ordered a 2nd cup . The paper was yesterday's , so the staff especially went and bought today's paper for me to read . Excellent customer service .

First time visit to Hummingbird Cafe in Elwood. We sat outside and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere that is Ormond Road. I ordered a Vietnamese pork roll, big juicy pieces of roast pork and crackle fresh crunchy roll with all the condiments. Delicious. My friend ordered an alternative pork roll (can't remember the name) and said it was really good. I look forward to visiting again.

A nice place to have a brunch in the heart of Elwood. Friendly staff and fresh ingredients used. The soba noodles salad was yummy!

Went for lunch today and it was absolutely delicious 😋 I got the raw salad bowl and I was impressed. Staff are friendly and we sat with our dog outside. 🐕

We were sitting outside this place and ordered their thick-shake choc which was great and the green bawl salad with crispy chicken and the pancakes..and a latte -every thing was spot on !! Including the sun and atmosphere- Will be back for sure ...

Absolutely appalling! First of all I received the wrong order and only realised once I was home and had to return to the cafe to get the correct one! Secondly apon finishing the coffee a large piece of glass was sitting at the bottom. Tried to call the cafe however no answer! Really disappointing and unhygienic!

Runny milkshake, $5 in kids menu, waiter tried to charge me $7, Got all sulky and rude when I told him about it. Seriously!

Out for a drive on a Sunday we wandered into Hummingbird for lunch. Good service and great food. We sat outside in the sun with the dog and felt very special to be able to spend our Sunday together eating such great food. Thanks

I just stood outside the takeaway window. I don’t mind waiting and appreciate when it is busy. Several people stared at me. Barely a metre away. A simple “be with you in a moment” would not go astray. Just walked off.

Great location and really good food, it’s also vegetarian and vegan friendly, so if anyone is interested in some good vegan breakfast this place is really fantastic, loved the food and the fresh orange juice

A little bit disappointed by my breakfast here. The service was below par (including being asked for what we wanted to eat without being given a menu). We both had the fritters which were OK - a bit overcooked with an overly sweet chutney like spread. I think the overall experience would have been better if the wait staff had a bit more experience and organisation. Coffee & Chai were very good.

Such a great cafe tucked away in the up and coming foodie hub of Ormond Road in Elwood. We had the 'Egg hurricane' and 'Pulled pork benedict' which were both very generously portioned and much more brightly coloured than anticipated, complete with smoked salmon roses (pictured). We also had a soy capp and almond milk iced latte which were made with Bonsoy and Milklab respectively and were delicious. The only change we would make would be to have the menu be more descriptive as calling the base of the pink dish a 'potato crisp' does no justice to the delicious spiced sweet potato rosti which was served. Our French waiter (didn't catch his name) and the owner were extremely hospitable, and even checked to see if my second drink was meant to be made with soy as I forgot to say. We will be back!  4.5/5 :)

Had a really good experience the food was very good, had the chicken burger and it was a great surprise. Loved it. The atmosphere was good for a Sunday and the staff were friendly. Only negative was a little noisy with the juicing machines. Good quality food and coffee. Keep it up.

First time to this place. Coffee was good but food was average. I had the calamari with Asian slaw, the calamari was well cooked but the asian slaw was a bit overpowering which after a few mouthful, I couldn’t taste the freshness of the calamari.

I was delighted to dine as a guest of Hummingbird on Sunday, what a beautiful space! Located on bustling Ormond road a quick stroll from the beach the venue is spacious and the portions generous. While tempted by the breakfast cocktails I chose the woodpecker juice which was a refreshing mix of pineapple, orange and apple. All juices and smoothies are named for birds which was cute and I almost went for a second one but settled on a beetroot latte instead which is my go to hot beverage of late. A good rendition too complete with pretty latte art. Coffee also solid by all reports of my dining companions. <br/>Food wise I opted for the zucchini, corn and haloumi fritters with tomato, avocado and a poached egg. The dish came with bacon or an option to upgrade to beetroot cured salmon which I went for. Well priced for the quantity and plenty of flavour. We also had a smashed pea and mint avocado with a side of bacon. This came with a house made beetroot relish which was thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the addition of pomegranate on their to give it some zing too and the mint to freshen it up.<br/>Our third dish was the cauliflower and pumpkin smash which was something a bit different and certainly impressed. The menu definitely had plenty of variety and the açai bowl I spied going out to another diner would be my next choice to try on a future visit. I hear they also have a happy hour so that might be another one to keep in mind..

Have only visited here for breakfast and occasional take away coffees. The food has always been fantastic and the coffee is pretty good too. The corn fritters are amazing and my go to breakfast when I cannot decide. Staff are friendly and there is a calm relaxed vibe.

I quite like Hummingbird and have come here a few times for coffee or brunch. Their coffee is really great and the food is always good. I also love the service and the people who work here are so lovely and friendly! It feels like a nice cosy local place at the same time as being very well presented and elegant! Love it 😌

We booked hummingbird for Mother's Day lunch last week. The cafe itself is really nice and has a good menu for both brunch and lunch. The staff were friendly and accommodating for our big group. I had the calamari and prawn salad, the seafood itself was really nice and tasty and cooked well, however I felt the salad would have been better in an Asian slaw type style to complement the seafood.

Was not impressed with the show . I would say it's a good laugh nothing especial or ok to eat . Food are below the average and disappointment .

We went here for lunch a week ago and were really disappointed after reading some good reviews. <br/>A few of my group had dishes from the breakfast menu which were all really unhappy with the quality of the food everyone's bacon was burnt and portions very small for the price. I however had the halloumi sandwich with beetroot on multigrain bread (came out as a toasted sandwich that was not stated on the menu) sounded great but so salty I could barely eat it. Side salad was a handful of rocket with cheese on top? Interesting... <br/>Service extremely slow everyone's food was out at different times. Also most of the staff cannot speak English to a high enough standard to understand us. <br/>It's a real shame because the new owners have not made the failed restaurant before the name change any better, the building has potential to be something great but the management/kitchen are just getting it so wrong.

Me and my partner visited Hummingbird couple of times for brunch and coffees. Friendly staff and good service. Location is pretty handy and easy to get to. I did notice the service was a tad slow but the coffee was well worth it and good food too.<br/>We will definitely go back there again!

I've dined at Hummingbird a few times now and the food and service is great! The coffee is especially good. It's a very friendly and cosy restaurant with staff that are always welcoming. <br/>Fabian (I think that's his name) is lovely and always recommends a yummy choice from their delicious menu. Will be back for sure, it's my 'local' when I visit Elwood.

Our 3rd visit and unfortunately won't be visiting Hummingbird again. The man serving us I believe is the owner yet gives embarrassingly bad service. Poached eggs over done more like a boiled egg, burnt bacon and soggy fritters. My wife had the baked eggs and the sauce was non existent extremely dried out. Small portions and again over done eggs. Only upside is half decent coffee. Anyone wishing to visit my advice is don't bother on a weekend as the standard of service and food is extremely poor. <br/>

House of burnt coffee, slow service, French dude can't even speak proper English. Horrible service and my poached eggs were overcooked. Won't return anytime soon

Amazing food and service. The saganaki is a great show and soooo tasty! We love that they can cater for fructose and gluten free. Highly recommend!

Been a while since eating here, new owners equals completely new experience. Fantastic food and service. Ingenious menu and great accompanying drinks. Highly recommend eating here now if like me you had a poor experience in the past. It's been transformed.

I've been here for breakfast twice and both times the food was awesome, and dinner once and had the same experience. The staff are friendly and the beer and wine selection are tops!!

Great spot sitting in the sun enjoying the vibe of Ormond Rd on a Saturday morning. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The Phoenix Smoothie w Peanut Butter was one of the better ones I've had - thick and creamy!! I also tried a 'Magic' coffee - 3/4 flat white. Was happy with the recommendation. Will be back for breaky!

We tried the Hummingbird this morning for the first time. Had a really nice brekky and the staff were really nice and friendly. Good work 😀

Coffee was okayyyy here, nothing amazing.. In Fact i still have not found a decent coffee place in elwood village, someone help me out here ☹🤔?<br/><br/>Place looks accommodating to plenty of diners, i may have to check out their food next time. <br/><br/>Update: after the reno's and revamp - hummingbird looks more lively and appealing. The hot fries are yummy! Staff really friendly!
