A charming little cafe in the beach side suburb of Elwood, Veruca Salt serves up wonderful coffee and food to happy locals. It was really busy when we popped in, but the staff were still sweet and service was prompt and efficient.
Our coffee was rich and creamy, and we enjoyed some delicious crumpets and homemade slice. Both were really tasty, and great for a mid morning snack. Veruca Salt is a cosy cafe that is welcoming and definitely worth returning to.
Stopped here for a mid week brunch. Lovely cafe wirh great coffee. It was quiet mid week and thus staff were very attentive. Food was good, and fast to come out.
Veruca Salt has become my favourite writing spot. The relaxed and personable atmosphere is a delight to be a part of. Coffee is brilliant and the food is high quality and well presented. I can't recommend this gem of a cafe enough.
We went to Veruca Salt for lunch on a weekend. Unfortunately our first choices from the menu werenβt available, however the burgers which we ended up ordering were tasty.
Veruca Salt is a cute cafe with an interesting food selection. They make a great coffee, which I paired with the Super Breaky and Veggie Omelette (shared between two). The breaky was a large serve and beautifully presented. I only wish the serve of haloumi was larger for the price. The omelette was huge and topped with salad. The flavour was just alright because the tomatoes weren't very fresh and the capsicums were obviously jarred. There's a lot of potential for this place which a few simple swaps could fix. (:
To end on another positive note, the service was prompt and staff were really friendly.
There's nothing not to love here.
As starters, the latte smelt so good and tasted great, hot chocolate was thick and nice.
The hash breakfast tasted gorgeous as it looked, yum potato croquettes and the pulled pork was succulent and tender, rocket salad with vinegarette dressing on the side mixed beautifully with the sweetness from pomegranate, and the poached eggs cooked perfectly.
The cajun chicken burger was well seasoned. It only the french fries was a bit dry, but with everything else was sooo good it made my day, that was the only one tiny flaws I can definitely ignore.
Lovely staff, they were attentive and efficient.
A real gem in the heart of beautiful Elwood. Great food, welcoming and very friendly staff, nice atmosphere and reasonable price. We went there for Saturday brunch and were really happy with the choice.Coffee was served hot enough and tasted good. Breakfast menu was very diverse with some really interesting options. So if youβre happy to try something a bit different this is a place to go. We had Super brekkie and Middle Eastern style brekkie with eggplant πboth very yummy and very well presented, generous portion and poached eggs made to perfection (Iβm too fussy when it comes to poached eggs π).
Strongly recommend this place if youβre a brunch addict like me and will be definitely back soon.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here, could not fault. Delicious food and absolutely phenomenal coffee. Will be returning guys, thank you so much!
Veruca Salt in Elwood is an upbeat cafe with a beach side vibe showcasing modern cafe food and excellent coffee in a contemporary setting. The cafe situated along Ormond road offers a small amount of seating out the front, with ample seating inside featuring large round share tables out the back and cosier seating options for two closer towards the front near the bar.Β
Sunday afternoon adventures found us in Elwood in search for a feed. Ormond road was busy with cafe goers much alike even though it was past the brunch rush hour almost hitting 2 oβclock. With tummies rumbling and a late lunch needed asap, Veruca Salt caught my eye and looked appealing due to it not being overly busy.Β
We entered to be greeted by friendly staff who didnβt care where we sat. We sat out in the back room along the comfortable pillowed chairs and viewed the menu that was waiting for us. The menu features all day breakfast as well as hearty meals served for lunch with numerous assortment of mouthwatering sandwiches. We firstly ordered a long black along with a refreshing classic ginger beer as we still analysed the menu.
The drinks arrived very quickly and where excellent. One can never go wrong with a classic Bundaberg ginger beer on ice quenching ones thirst as it touches your lips. The long black was a well deserve caffeine pick me up and brewed well. The brew was dark, thick and strong with heavy hazelnut aromas that where pleasing.Β
As the staff returned we where keen to order as it was now almost 2.30. We picked wisely going for the chicken schnitzel burger as well as the bircher muesli. As we waited patiently for our meals, reading the paper that was on offer it was only moments before our dishes arrived looking outstanding. The chicken schnitzel burger with panko crumbed chicken breast, coleslaw on a brioche bun with fires and sweet chilli and sour cream was a generous serving and a mighty tasty meal. The crumbed chicken was cooked to perfection, nice and moist falling apart easily. The coleslaw dressed the bun well and the addition of melted cheese that oozed into the chicken was dreamy. The highlight would have to be the french fries that were nice and crispy and pair well with the OG combo of sweet chilli and sour cream.Β
The bircher muesli featuring grated apple, pear and apricot, blackcurrants, pistachios, strawberries and hung yoghurt was a refreshing flavoursome dish. The bircher was creamy and thick, littered with chunks of sweet apricot and crunchy pear. The addition of poached spiced pear on top combined with the utterly exquisite tart hung yoghurt sent the palate into over drive. The textual crunch from the pistachios and fresh berries where great and the added sweetness of the dried fruit ensured this dish was flawless.Β
Veruca Salt is a pleasant cafe run by friendly accommodating staff that serve decent food and coffee in a relaxing environment. The weβll priced menu offers something for all and the produce is of the best quality ensuring one will leave with a full belly and on a caffeine high.
We were here for a lunch yesterday food was fantastic with a great coffee very good customer service we will be back again to try more from the menu!
Was delighted to dine as a guest of Veruca Salt because Iβd driven past before and frankly just loved the name. I wonβt deny Iβve been referred to as Veruca before but I steered clear of throwing any tantrums today and sipped quietly on my Isabella juice which was a fruity concoction involving watermelon strawberry and mint. I do confess I expected it to be a little more vibrant in shade but it was certainly refreshing.
The space is quite large and was delightfully air conditioned on the warm day I visited. Located on the main strip, it provides free wifi and a modern interior with the requisite Melbourne cafe greenery.
I ordered the middle eastern eggplant from the mostly savoury and largely healthy menu (remembering we are in Elwood home of the clean eaters). The dish struck me for being a little different and there are a few other original and interesting sounding feeds available including a duck omelette. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal for its quirky presentation and unique flavours that you donβt always see as brunch fare. I loved the creamy hummus with the smoked eggplant and the sensational crunch of the hazelnuts. Perfect poached eggs too. A great spot for lunch if you are planning a day at the beach
This was our second visit to veruca salt and this time we brought 4 friends. On a sunny Saturday day is was very busy, we had a seat outside.
The waiting staff are warm and friendly the menu is very inviting.
Our food was simply superb and we can't wait to visit again.Β highly recommended
P.S best coffee in elwood :)
Very fine cafe with plenty of space. It was 8 of us were very easily accommodated at the back area.
Service and food was top class best one of Elwood.
We visited veruca salt yesterday the food was to die for, we had hash breakfast and the super breaky both the dishes were amazing.
Nice and positive vibe place

Amazing coffee and fantastic food! A great range of healthy foods. I had the breakfast salad which was very tasty! also lots of tasty smoothies and juices to choose from! The staff are very friendly the cafe has a great atmosphere, would recommend this place to anyone!
I love Veruca Salt. Great staff and my favourite stop for a chai latte :) Will definitely be stopping by again to enjoy the hash brekky!!!!!
Veruca Salt has the most delicious coffee, food and great fast friendly service. We are locals and it is the only place we go to for breakfast or lunch in Ormond Road Elwood. Cozy atmosphere and loads of outdoor dining. Love it π₯π³π₯π²π₯π₯π½π½π½π½ββββββββββββββββββπππ
Amazing coffee and delicious food!! Had a great experience and really enjoyed the lovely staff :) Would definitely go back again for the super breaky.
The food is awesome (try the super breaky), coffee is great. Maddy and his staff are super friendly, spacious and airy. I love this cafe. Recommended π
Ignore the low reviews from 2016 back, I don't think it's the same management these days. I go here quite often - it's my favourite local cafΓ©. Staff are nice, food is nice, owner is a nice guy. It can get pretty busy in the mid morning, but there's plenty of seating. Doesn't have the air of pretension you might expect from an Elwood cafΓ©. What's not to like?
Brilliant food, warm & cosy on a Winters day. Menu is interesting & varied, friendly, helpful staff. I order something different each time l have been & never fails to please. The coffee is just so perfect here.

The food was simple but delicious, I had the breakfast panini. The coffee is great too, all around this place is just a decent brunch haunt.
Great venue , Good people, nice coffee and healthy food. Situated in a nice location and the friendly staffs make it more nicer place to drink coffee and have a nice breakfast

Delicious food and great quality coffee! The Hash Breakfast is my absolute favorite, definitely worth a try! The staff is great and very service minded. Best spot in Elwood!
The coffee is delicious and the staff are always excellent! This is my new local for a quick take away coffee. I am yet to try the food but based on the coffee I'm sure it's yummy.
Food and coffee is excellently presented and tasty as well. Service was well on time, Food was cooked well in to my own standarded. Well done guys.
service was good coffee was great and i decided to order a french toast of the specials. I can honestly say i was amazed when i received it . The presentation and taste was awesome.
Yum, Yum, Yum, Yum... Delicious food and great service. enjoyed it for every bits, food plus the venue. Definitely must try place.Β Thanks guys.
Nice and cosy cafΓ©, great coffee, tasty food and friendly staff, I had the Breakfast Salad and it was delicious, there are also variety of healthy food on the menu, I'm definitely coming back!
nice placeοΌcoffee is good and chef is talented. Best for the family or with friends, they also got fresh juices and healthy smoothies. It is a good place to enjoy the sunshine during the day.
I don't usually leave reviews, but I was so shocked to see this cafe's current low rating I felt compelled to have a say! Β Have brunched here three times, and every time the food has been delicious and the coffee great. My partner is a creature of habit, and each time we've been he has has ordered, and raved about, the Butcher's Breakfast. Even though I like to try different things each time I eat somewhere, the crushed potato breakfast is so delicious I have ordered it twice. Crispy potatoes, flavoursome smoked trout, salty capers and bitter watercress, topped with a perfectly (both times) poached egg. The ham hock breakfast is equally delicious. The only slight downside is the service, which can be hit and miss and varies significantly depending on the individual. Each time we've been we've encountered at least one grumpy/frazzled/scary staff member, however they are usually offset by someone else lovely. It's worth the risk for the food, so don't be put off by the low rating!
It had been a long time since I had ventured back here. Having been an Elwood resident in the past I used to love Bosque, the previous cafe at this residence. I tried the butchers daughter when it first opened and wasn't too impressed with the coffee and the menu. I thought I'd give it another shot. I sat down and ordered a coffee, was served very quickly and I knew from my first sip, they were on the right track. It was delicious and so good that I ordered a large straight afterwards. For brunch I had the avocado bruschetta with an egg. The bread was so crispy and tasty and the rest was delish too. Glad I'm back in love with this place and look forward to returning.

The breakfast panini was heaven; the caramelised onions gave the bacon that extra kick. The bacon itself was done brilliantly; only to be outdone by the buttered bread.
The staff was much friendlier than the reviews led me to believe. Polite and quick is how I'd describe them. Then again Elwood people will take any opportunity to complain.
The coffee could use a bit of work though. It was still good. I'd reccommend this place for a good breakfast or quick lunch.
Butcherβs Daughter cafe, newly opened in Elwood. The staff were lovely, we were greeted and welcomed as soon as we stepped through the door.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and the tables towards the back of the cafe were very spacious.
The menu includes many classic breakfast options with a modern twist, I will definently be back for a breakfast meal.
The lunch options arenβt as wide ranging but it includes various fresh paninis amd Italian inspired dishes.
The panini with chicken cotoletta, aioli and Italian slaw was delicious, the crumbs on the chicken and the slaw were crunchy and added wonderful texture, The fries with rosemary and salt made for a perfect side.
Overall, an enjoyable dining experience.
Went to this funky looking cafe on Saturday to have breakfast. Service was good coffee was great and i decided to order a french toast of the specials. I can honestly say i was amazed when i received it . The presentation and taste was awesome. Strawberry and rhubarb salad with the vanilla mascarpone and french toast . It all worked so well together. It was like a marriage made in heaven . Great work guys. Will be back.
Came here for Easter Sunday brekkie!
My husband had recommended the place. My friend and I loved the place. Loved the coffee as I'm a massive fan of wide open road beans. Had the smashed avo on toast and added bacon. Was absolutely delicious. Bread was perfectly toasted and the smashed avo was insane. My friend had the eggs florentine and added a hash brown!! Wowπ I had total food envy. Service was great and all very friendly. Would make an effort to come back and try the rest of the menu! Thanks guys
Good atmosphere, friendly fast service. (Could do with art on the pale green walls out the back) Prices are aligned to most other breakfast cafe's in the bayside area. Menu has a good level of diversity. Food is good quality and flavour although portions could be larger. Good coffee.
They do really good shakes and have a good variety of food. Crushed Potatoes are yum which are served with poached eggs, salmon and capers.
As a local, it is a refreshing addition to the other ridiculously priced eateries in the area. Had poached eggs and bacon which was perfectly cooked and apart from that arriving before my coffee, I couldn't complain. The coffee was worth the wait!
Perfect, delicious & energizing, my order;
* Rosa - freshly squeezed Apple, Beetroot, ginger &
celery - tasty & sweet
* Smash Avocado on toast - poached eggs,
beetroot hummus, smashed avo & lemon
* Almond cappuccino- 2 sugar
Would highly recommend all of the above ππΌ
Nice coffee and food! Staff really friendly!!!we r always going here for coffee and food! Amazing!!!
Lovely staff and really nice coffee and delicious foodππβοΈ
Been coming to this gem for awhile! Coffee is great and food delicious. Although lately the portion sizes seem to be getting smaller! They keep the menu fresh by adding and changing specials often. Donβt line up somewhere else, stroll in here and enjoy!
Polite service, artfully prepared food. New owners keen to please. I had smashed avocado on toast with beetroot relish, pomegranate seeds & sprinkled with dukkah, topped with 2 poached eggs! Yum.
Our top choice in Ormond rd village, we visit often. Service is always prompt and staff are really kind! Food and coffee is super tasty and made with care. Love the varied menu.
