Review Roy's - Elwood

TENNYSON is up and running and was worth the wait. Tried it for the first time this morning and was really impressed. Great coffee, delicious (well thought out) food and menu. Lovely light casual setting and sweet staff. All the ingredients our little strip was looking for more of 🙂 Looking forward to working our way through the menu.

I’m South African and the fusion of South African food and Modern Australian was just amazing! The flavours and spices were yummy! Prices are good for the size of the plates. Simple and fresh food! Atmosphere fresh and clean. Staff friendly. Will recommend to all our South African friends. The Mielie bread yum, the chutney yes, and chakalaka what a kick.

An amazing caffeinated experience located in urban Elwood. Sit outside on a day that permits and watch this dog friendly café accommodate and pamper cute dogs with fancy treats. Service was excellent, fast and friendly. The mocha I had was the strength I liked and presented beautifully. The muffin tasted homely with the perfect berry tang and white chocolate contrast. Highly recommended!

Came here for a coffee and wasn't disappointed. Very nice coffee with quick service both for ordering and receiving the coffee. Staff were friendly and there was a pleasant feel to the place. As we only came for coffee I can't speak to the menu or food (some of the sweets on display looked nice). I'd come here again...

A great team in a great community, serving a culturally diverse food and drinks menu, a home away from home.

Love this place, a hidden gem in a way, but such a lovely vibe, beautiful furniture, best food in elwood and now doing live music on Fridays! The staff are great too, very attentive and a nice community/family feel. Just had an exceptional coffee too!

Oh yeah, I went back twice on as many days to this place. Their coffee is very smooth and tasty. Their meals are small but absolutely to die for. And they have done weird coffee alternative, with a big block of ice and flavourful spices. A wonderful cafe!

Went to this cafe for a coffee today for the first time. I tried the Cold Brew - Roses blend. It was yum , beautifully presented and refreshing. The staff were friendly and the owner had good knowledge and passion about what he was serving. The food was original, yummy and of quality ( I had the Avocado over Zimbabwean-style cornbread ). The reason I giving this cafe a very high rating is all the elements are there and balanced. It is not copying anyone ( lets face it Melbourne has an over abundance of copycat cafe with no substance ). This one has it's own personality, definite style and beautiful food; that one feels has been made with respect to the produce and well made coffee. To top it off the overall ambience is friendly and the background music (at the right tempo is not too loud but not too quiet ) is a perfect accompaniment to enjoy your coffee.

Went to this cafe recently with friends for coffee . Had a strong skinny cap and ordered fruit toast. The coffee was strong , yet velvety smooth as I like it. The fruit toast was 2 x artisan looking dense pieces & the jam tasted like it was home made - yum! Not sure if this is a new cafe or recently refurbished - lovely , cosy ambience on a cold dreary day. I can see why this cafe is very popular with the locals. Great coffee & service -recommend this cafe .

The service is warm and friendly, the coffee is seriously amazing, both hot and the cold brews, and the food is great. I’ve been here a number of times and my husband and I came for brunch one day and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff! Definitely recommend.

A new spot in elwood has quickly become our favourite and local go to on a Sunday morning.

The team's warm and knowledgeable service is definitely refreshing, especially their coffee options...any coffee aficionado's make this one on your bucket list!

A well curated menu with african and australian native influences, and still the usual classics for breakfast and now I believe they are open for dinner which is a big plus for the area.

Great fit out and intimate setting, Can recommend

Classy, sophisticated vibe the moment you walk in. Helpful and attentive staff. I never have to ask twice for water (which is great because as a coffee addict hydration is ever so important). I love love love the nitro brew coffee. No 8 (rose-infused cold brew) and Downtowns (ginger beer cold brew) are my go-tos and yeah I know there's more options but it's hard to not choose my favourites every single time. They do the classics like smashed avo and eggs on toast - but on a five-star level. I'm really into their baked eggs, rice bowl and spaghetti at the moment (I don't have them all at once, I meant individually, they're like super hearty on their own). Very clean bathroom (I know y'all need to know before you settle into a place. I know I do). It's nice to have a local hang with an uptown feel but also super chill vibes. The competition on Tennyson St hospitality is definitely heating up.

My new local! The staff here are second to none, exceptional coffee and the food is to die for. Always greeted well, served quickly and leave full/content

Tennyson nights have begun! I’ve been lucky enough to try out most of their night menu already, and keep coming back for more! They have quite a few fish and vegetarian dishes, all with a delicious African twist! Try the chermoula pumpkin and the haloumi with eggplant relish. The vibe is relaxed and cozy. Drinks are on point with their wine menu changing to explore more varieties of wine and new wine makers. Be sure to book!

Tennyson was an absolute pleasure to dine at. I spoke with the owners who went into depth about the Tennyson story and I was all ears. After learning about the extent of their coffee research, it was no surprise their coffee (both hot and cold drip) was incredible.

The food works for me. It’s got subtle African and indigenous influence with some Modern Australian dishes. I am trying to choose a favourite, but if I’m honest, they were all faultless.

We had the rice bowl, beetroot salad and hot cakes. Don’t skip the guava smoothie, it’s also sensational.
What a great feed from an cafe with a fantastic story.

I love this place. I get my morning coffee from here everyday and it’s great. Staff are warm and attentive even though some weekend staff don’t have a huge level of experience. The food is absolutely delicious. My partner and I have been through the menu and cannot fault a dish. It’s incredibly rare to find a place that represents such good value in the local neighbourhood. So happy about new dinner service.. simply you guys have ‘Nailed It’

Pretty underwhelming all round, service extremely slow, had to ask to order, for more water, for more water glasses. Staff just weren’t on the ball or attentive.
Drinks took a long time and the ‘breakfast’ menu was a mix of lunch and dinner. Not sure about you but I want all different types of savoury eggs dishes for breakfast not a lamb burger. Very little options.
I had the ‘Avocado’ which essentially was cut up avocado on a home made sweet bread. Not something I was expecting nor was too delicious.
However I had a fresh apple juice which was delicious and my friend had one of the cold brew coffees and said it was amazing.
Not somewhere I would revisit in a hurry.

Great food and excellent, friendly service. This place is a hive of activity which is great to see as many have come before. Highly recommended.

A warm welcome. A standard cafe layout with interest coming from green and light. African-influences spice up regular cafe fare. Tasty, hearty and attractively presented food. No criticism and looking forward to seeing what the future holds in this little niche market.
