Great food and service overall. Be sure to grab a rose water and pistachio delight before leaving. One letdown - the meatballs were a bit dry for my liking. Besides that, would definitely come visit again for some authentic Greek cuisine.
So after we heard of this place from a family member we decided to trek all the way out to Newtown to enjoy some Greek food (parking is a nightmare try back streets)
Me and the misso ordered the meat banquet 45$/head which is reasonable for what you get.
Meats really stood out and the chicken skewers were the star of the dish
Only reason didn’t give it a 5 was the sauces/chips nearly $50 a head and we only got enough for not even one person to have with entree and mains
P.S Old Greek lady there was so nice and friendly !
Invited 13 people (one vegetarian, one coeliac) for a 60 birthday celebration on Saturday night. Everyone enjoyed food, especially the mouthwatering lamb. Coeliac guest was well catered for. Ambience was excellent. Would highly recommend restaurant for a casual relaxed and authentic atmosphere with food to match. Poly gala - Greek for very good!!!
We had such a lovely midweek dinner here. We were made to feel as guests rather than customers, with a warm smile as we walked in the door. Great food, really nice menu that's neither too brief nor too overwhelming.

ME AND MY FIANCE STUMBLED PAST THIS WHILE WALKING UP THE STREET TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING NEW AND WE WERE PLEASED THAT THEY HAD ALL OUR GREEK FAVOURITES ESPECIALLY A RESIDENT YIAYIA WHO WHILE CLEARING OUR TABLES GAVE ME A YIAYIA SMILE AND RECOMMENDED THAT SHE WON'T CLEAR THE TZATZIKI SAUCE SO I CAN DIP MY CHIPS IN IT BECAUSE AT THAT TIME I DIDN'T FINISH MY CHIPS YET AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS A HOMELY YIAYIA THING TO DO THEN AT THE END THE YIAYIA BOSSED IT WITH THE EFTPOS MACHINE WHEN I PAID BY CARD SO A TRADITIONAL AND MODERN YIAYIA ALL IN ONE SO A 5/5 FOR RESTAURANT AND 5/5 FOR YIAYIA
This is our favourite neighbourhood Greek place. The food is consistently excellent and the service is always friendly, particularly when the ya-ya is there!
I ca easily rate this a 10/10 from the service, restaurant , atmosphere and quality of food. Every visit to Three Olives you’ll find something better and better, like one of your favourite films you’ve watched over again and find something different?
The food exceeded my expectations and left me salivating after each mouthful.
Thank you 3 Olives for the wonderful experience

Cute little place, with a bit of a romantic vibe. Friendly and accomodating staff, also quite helpful with menu suggestions. The food was beautiful and the meat was perfectly cooked. Pricing was reasonable too. Only disappointment was that they had run out of a specific dessert and that the coffee not only took forever to make, but was scorching hot and terrible to drink. Other than that, definitely worth checking out.
Wandered in randomly and liked it straight away, it smelled Greek. The service was welcoming, the place is close and was noisy but that only added to the vibe. The drinks were priced right and the meze and ouzo were good portions. The Kleftiko was falling off the bone and the only down side was we could not fit in any Baklava.
Very warm, friendly staff. Food is delicious. Especially dips, stuffed wine leaves and lamb were our favourite. Haloumi cheese & salad was also very nice. Reasonably priced. Definitely recommend this place.
Had a great feed at 3 Olives. Me and my mate had the seafood banquet plus red wine which was more than enough.
The salad had no lettuce, which is a good sign as Greek salad is NOT SUPPOSE TO HAVE LETTUCE!! But it didn't seem to have enough feta. The dips seemed store bought and the tzatziki didn't have any cucumber pieces. The haloumi (love!) and dolmades were nice but the tiropitakia may have been from the freezer. The mussels were small but the salsa was good but what made it great was the fresh parsley and dill! I love my herbs!
The seafood platter was good. Swordfish souvlaki tasted like meaty fish and the octopus was tender. The whitebait was surprisingly good but the calamari may not be fresh but I couldn't tell.
When it was time to pay, we had half a piece of Turkish delight which was complimentary.
I highly recommend this though who want a real Greek meal. Plus the woman manager, she kept saying 'kali orexi', was a lovely host. Would like to come back one day!
Seeking an inner city restaurant for a relaxed dinner with friends and family? Greek dance your way to 3 Olives on King Street, Newtown. Delicious, authentic food, good value and excellent service. Try 3 Olives' signature dish Arni Kleftiko - a hefty serving of slow roasted lamb with vegetables. Finish off with Galatoboureko - Greek custard in honey syrup-drizzled pastry. Head home happy. (BTW: there's no Greek dancing, ευτυχώς.)
Great food and service. The best Greek restaurant in Sydney. I will come back again for sure. Prices are reasonable too. Congratulations to the owners.
Went here for dinner on a cold rainy evening. What a great decision that turned out to be. It was the best dining experience we've had for a long time.
Stepping into the warm medium lit space from the wet cold street felt awesome.
The hosts were warm, kind people, very accommodating of our specific choices.
We started with 3 dips (tzatziki, garlic, and eggplant) with warm pita bread. The dips were very good especially the garlic dip. The pita was warm and soft. Just the stuff to get us going.
We then had the fassolatha, a vegetarian dish with white beans in a tomato salsa served with crispy bread. Although the bread was a tad oily it went well with the overall dish.
Usually that would have been it, but with rains outside and a nice warm setting surrounding us we decided to stay on for a bit. Sit and chat is just not our way and so we ordered the yamista ( vegetarian version).
This dish was the highlight of the night. The tomato, the zucchini, the rice the cheese.. Everything about it was perfect.
We capped off the evening with sweet Greek coffee which the hosts graciously served with Greek delight ( similar to Turkish delight apparently). The coffee can be had sweet or plain.
Recommend 3 olives whole heartedly. Will be visiting again soon.
One fine eve, despite the fact that I had been trying to stick to a vegetarian diet, the word "lamb shank" in an attractive homely looking Greek restaurant caught my eye. The rest is history. It is the most perfectly cooked and flavoursome lamb I have eaten. The waitstaff are like genuine family who do not pressure you unlike other places who act like they care in order to up sell. The recommended wine was also a perfect blend with the meal. This place feels authentically Greek I urge you to try this place if you are craving Greek cuisine.
Stumbled onto this humble Greek restaurant on King St. We ordered the fish and lamb. Very surprised about the large portions and extremely friendly service. Food was also very tasty and fulfilling! Only improvement I would suggest is the wine list...tried both house red/white and it wasn't very drinkable. Thank god it was byo.
The most beautiful dinner experience i have had in a long time. We were able to make our booking via leaving a voicemail and I received one in return to confirm. The atmosphere was lively, welcoming and friendly. The staff were so accommodating and personable. The food was delicious and authentic.
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff. The gentleman went to great efforts to ensure my food intolerances were catered for and did not make me feel like I was difficult or a problem. Thank you so much for making our evening so enjoyable. Will definitely return.
Came with a group of four people and was slightly disappointed in the food. Flavours were ok, but I was expecting better. Nice service and the atmosphere is good, but the food isn't worth the hefty price-tag.
The moment you enter 3 Olives you can smell fresh sea food and Greek herbs. You are welcomed by an incredibly friendly staff and the whole big Greek adventure begins. We had dips for an entree, including taramosalata, tzatziki and meliziana- all 3 were fresh and tasty but taramosalata was the absolute favorite. This was followed by the mains- Saganaki Prawns and Moussaka Meliziana. Both orders were delicious, freshly made and tasted amazing. Portions were so big we could have fed one more person from our order. I have to admit that I did not enjoy moussaka when I traveled to Greece but this one was just mouth watering. We have been recommended to try the traditional Greek wine- Lafkiotis, Retsina and we hit the jackpot with it. Went perfectly with all the food. This place is a big yes, will definitely come back to try more of the menu and hang out with the fun staff!
Delicious entree, mains and desserts in a lovely, cozy restaurant on King St! Everything was very reasonably priced, the staff were brilliant and very knowledgeable (funny too) and it all made for a great dining experience. We had the calamari and platter entree, slow cooked lamb main (hearty, delicious and succulent) and the greek custard for dessert...followed by complimentary turkish delight that the staff happily gave us more of to take home for free! Will definitely be back!
Would recommend byo wine if you're picky as the wine list is limited.
Came here for dinner with a group of 4 on a very busy Sunday night! The first thing I noticed is how understaffed they are! The poor waitress and waiter were running around like headless chooks! However, they were very polite and hospitable! We ordered 4 dishes - chicken souvlaki, youvetsi, moussaka and keftdes. The chicken souvlaki hands down was the most tender and delicious chicken I have ever had. I could have eaten plates of just that alone, it was amazing! My favourite dish of the night. The lamb in the youvetsi was also delicious and very tender. I really loved the moussaka. The eggplant, potato and white sauce went so well together! The keftdes were crisp on the outside and tender and juicy from the inside! We also had galaktoboureko for dessert. It was much lighter than I expected which was good given I was full but have always wanted to try it! It's not too rich in flavour and the pastry was absolutely delicious. I'm not sure if they make it themselves but if they do, hats off to them! And if not, it was cooked perfectly. This place is quite pricey I feel and it took 40mins for our mains to start coming out which isn't ideal. However I could see, they were doing the best with what they had! This place is not anything fancy so don't come here for fancy decor or fine dining but it is great, hearty home styled cooking!
Great staff, amazing food, and great ambience. By far one of our favourite restaurants in Newtown. The breads and dips to start are amazing, and the souvlaki and moussaka are one of the best on the menu.
Definitely recommend for anyone wanting some home cooked authentic greek cooked meals.
Nice small family orientated restaurant. Made a booking for 7pm was abit late due to no parking available in the immediate area. First time there and the manager remembered me making the booking. Staff were prompt and friendly. We ordered the meat banquet which was alot of food and good and filling. The banquet gives you a good selection of what's on the menu. Overall a great experience, and I'm sure not the last.
I came here with my partner on Valentine's Day, purely because we couldn't get in anywhere else because we didn't plan ahead. I'm so happy we went in because otherwise I wouldn't know about the quality Greek restaurant so close to home! Ordered the pita bread with three dips and the mussels. I don't even like pita bread usually but I smashed these so quick. The mussels were perfectly cooked and had great flavour. Ended up having a fabulous night! The staff were absolutely beautiful as well, very friendly & attentive. I'll definitely be back. Plenty of other dishes on the menu I'd like to try.
We visited 3 Olives tonight : our first experience at this restaurant and it won't be our last either.
The service was friendly and attentive, our main server May explained the menu well and provided many recommendations.
The restaurant does BYO, corkage is $2 but the wines on the menu were reasonably priced anyway.
We started with a Euro Plate to share which included grilled chorizo, grilled haloumi and marinated olives. The platter was well presented and tasted great, portion was generous for 2 for an entree.
Next my partner had the lamb shanks (Youvetski) and I had the Lamb Souvlakia. With the shanks, the meat melted off the bone and my Souvlakia was nice. It was deconstructed, served with chips and freshly baked pita bread, side salad and tzatziki. The only let down was the lamb was a little tough but otherwise a generous, tasty serving. We both couldn't finish our meals but ensured we left room to taste a Greek dessert considering we enjoyed our entree and main. We had the Galataboureko, a custard filled pastry drizzled with honey. It was magnificent. Easily the best Greek dessert I've had!
Would highly recommend this restaurant. It did get busy just as we were leaving so bookings are suggested. 5 stars!
We arrived a little before 8pm, and was rather surprised that there were actually many tables available, as most other places nearby, were completely full. After being seated and placing our order, the small restaurant started to fill up very quickly from 8pm onwards. It does feel a little cramped and noisy inside, as the tables are placed really close to one another, to fit more tables in. The tables themselves, are on the tiny side, so once you have a bottle of wine and water, glasses and plates and then the food comes out, it would be a struggle to fit everything on.
The trio of dips + warm pita bread, which seemed to be quite popular amongst other diners, came with a generous amount of pita bread. One of the worst things a restaurant can do, is give you too little bread! We also ordered the Euro plate, which was a mixture of grilled haloumi, chorizo and marinated olives. They were both a great start to the night. The haloumi was delicious. The salt and pepper calamari was also great, with a light, crispy batter. Overall great food so far. For mains, we shared the roasted lamb. In the best parts, it was tender, but in some parts on the top, the lamb was rather dry. It was a nice dish, but not great. I saw other people having the chicken or lamb souvlaki and I immediately developed the case of food envy. Servings of all dishes were plentiful.
I would be more than happy to return, though I definitely enjoyed my starters/ mezedes more. I might try another main next time, specifically the souvlaki, or simply order a range of starters to share. The wine list is quite small, but they do offer BYO.
Popped in on a Friday night on a whim and weren't disappointed. Service was speedy and very friendly and the BBQ octopus was divine! Lasaga flatbread mezze plate was also delicious. Only disappointment was the Greek salad which was very cucumber-heavy. We'll be back to try more of the menu.

after a visit to Bench for some live music, cheese platter and some red. 3 olives specializes in Greek and Mediterranean. cuisine. It’s a small little shop, got a bit of a patio on the outside with. some comfy couches and a heater. Inside, there is proper and regular seating. Well,. let’s get onto it. There are banquet options and then there is a la carte.
We have been here multiple times. Service is always quick and friendly, and often they fit us in at the last minute (even though they are always packed). The food is fantastic - always seem to gravitate to the mixed starter and meat platter (the banquet deal). Food and wine very well priced - for the two of us it's around $40/person which is amazing given the volume and quality of food. A King St favourite.
Great food, reasonably priced and fantastique wait staff who went above and beyond in service!!
I dined at 3 Olives on Saturday night with a girlfriend. I made a last minute booking only hours before dining and was told that indoor seating was booked out with our only option being outdoors (covered) with heating. I asked if we could be moved indoors should there be last minute cancellations thinking it would be easily forgotten on a busy Saturday dinner service.
We arrived at 7.45pm and thankfully, there was indoor seating by the front door. Shortly after being seated we were asked if we wanted to move further away from the front door (as to avoid gusts of icy, winter wind whenever patrons walked in/out).
We were blown away at how accommodating and friendly staff were. FYI, there were only two wait staff signed on for a busy Saturday evening service. We kept thinking how thafuq did they pull this off?!??
We ordered a trio of dips and a lamb souvlakia with extra pita bread. That was more than enough to fill us up. Pita bread was served deliciously fresh and hot upon arrival.
Highly recommend this place, particularly for larger groups. There's a theatrical waiter who sang from the bottom of his belly upon serving dessert to a birthday boy in a big group.
When we asked for the bill, the waitress told us we didn't have to go (lol). It was bizarre but nice to feel like we were part of this Greek family.
Yummy greek food, generous portions (we all had enough left for lunch the next day) and the most friendly staff that make you feel like you are in Greece being served by yaya who encouraged us to stay and take our time instead of rushing us out
This is a little place in Newtown. I would recommend this place to anyone as the food and service is great. My lamb chops tasted really good- well marinated and juicy. A must go at Newtown.

The pink one was the taramosalata with cod roe, which I’ve never tried before. My favourite was the chunky melitzana, an eggplant dip. I traded my cheese pastry for an extra dolma with Richard. The staff told us these deliciously lemony stuffed vine leaves were naturally low fat, so they drowned them in olive oil. I approve.
Are you looking for a Greek Restaurant in the heart of the bustling Newtown that offers amazing hospitality, a fun and laid back atmosphere, spectacular food and
Tonight we are eating at a Greek restaurant called 3 Olives, we’re being joined by Matt and Jim, who last appeared in these pixels back at The Animal which, strangely, is also a Greekish joint. Matt and I are first to arrive at the rapidly filling restaurant. After a quick discussion about increased hangover propensity with age (there’s definitely a thesis in that) we get things under way with a bottle of wine and some dips. Matt is momentarily confused about whether the three dips are free dips, but luckily the waiter and I are clear about what is going on. We are soon joined by Strop and Jim, who help us finish the first bottle and the
That aside, our experience was very good. Service was attentive, although sometimes it seemed the waiter seemed overloaded with work. The menu is varied enough to keep you pondering several options, as we did. The restaurant is happy to customize your order, which is a big bonus in my book.
I choose the chicken souvlaki - replacing the chips with rice - and god my meal is delicious. The seasoning explodes in my mouth with every bite - the oregano and olive oil combo is perfect.
We've been here twice and both times we loved it and said that we should come here more often. The service is exceptional and the portions are generous. I would rate the food a 7/10. The staff make you feel right at home. When I called to book a table the lady actually reserved two tables so I could choose the one I preferred once I got there as I couldn't decide if I wanted to sit inside or outside. We had the meat banquet and had enough leftovers for another meal.
Love, love LOVE this gem of a restaurant. I'm annoyed with myself being a local that last night was the first time I had tried 3 olives in over a year of living in Newtown, it certainly won't be the last time either. Food and service was 10/10 these guys have really nailed what good food and service is all about. Highly recommended
The best Greek desserts!!!. I went to 3 Olives with my husband a few weeks ago for desserts and coffees!! The best Galaktabureko in Sydney!!!
So impressed. My husband and I had heard good things about this little Greek treasure, and we were not disappointed. We rang ahead and let them know that we were held up in traffic - not a problem at all. We were greeted like old friends as we arrived, which was lovely as we had our newborn + pram with us, and were concerned we would be in the way.
All of the staff were very kind and warm. The food matched the service. We had the meat banquet each and were very pleased with the spread. The dips were beautiful, vine leaves and the light dill drizzle awesome. Greek salad perfect, not too oily to my relief.
Haloumi was amazing, as was the chicken souvlaki and the lamb was tender and falling off the bone. I don't eat red meat usually, but my husband convinced me to try it, and I was glad I did.
We also had some garlic pita - wow...so much better than the usual dry garlic splashed with oil deal...they used the white Greek garlic sauce/dip and rolled them into mini wraps...I was in heaven.
We didn't have room for dessert, but I was eyeing off the baklava from across the room, and it looked delicious. BYO wine, and quite reasonably priced.
All in all, we thought this place was well and truly worth the drive (for us).
Thank you for a great evening!
Terrific in every way. So many delicious foods, great ambience and the host/owner, Olga, puts Hospitality back where it is often missing: Hospitality Industry!
Enjoy a meal here soon. For more info check www.paintingthebridge.com
Brilliant Food and Lovely Atmosphere. Olives is one of my absolute favourite places to eat in Sydney.
If you want a booking at short notice without making a reservation, then come close to opening time around 6pm. If you prefer to eat later, you may need to phone ahead to reserve yourself a spot. It's worth it.
The menu has a good variety of salads and starters; very well suited to vegetarians. The main menu is strong meat and seafood (lamb, beef prawns). The owner and staff are really friendly and accommodating; so if you prefer to make your excellent haloumi, garlic pita and bruschetta selection your main meal alongside your friend tucking into meatballs - just let the waiter know.
The service is prompt yet the atmosphere is relaxed. Despite the popularity of the place, there is ample room to spread out and relax. You can come here for an evening out.
Another thing I love about Olives is that you can talk without having to compete with piped music. This is very much a family restaurant where good food and wine sit alongside great company and flowing conversation.
If you want an intimate evening with a loved one; or a great meal to share with select friends; Olives will impress.
I have been to this restaurant many times and just love it. It is definitely one of my favourite places to eat in Sydney (if not my favourite). They have the best moussaka that I have tasted- even better than those I have had in Greece.
The banquet option is a great idea if you have a group of people. It's great value for money and you always leave full and satisfied.
The service is just fabulous. No matter how busy they are they always make time to explain the menu and make you feel like you are the only customer in the room. It has a great family feel to it.
You need to go here!
What a great night out, the food is good & the staff are so friendly and accommodating. A good choice of food and they also have Greek wine & beer to go with it.
I recommend you try 3 Olives, in a group or just a couple. You will have a good time.
Happy staff- great food- excellent value. The banquet @ $32 is excellent value, its BYO and the staff all look like theyre genuinely happy to be there.
So happy I found this place!
Always love going back. Beautiful family, tasty wholesome food, friendly service and all for a great prices
3 olives is amazing, it still tops every place on king st so far. Great survive great food and all round good vibe, highly recommend it...
Great place, good food, great service, what can I say, best Greek place I've been to in Sydney
Fantastic food, sensational service... We will be back
Went there last week with my son did the $25 set menu.. It was beautiful and plenty ! Glad to see that the Greek salad didn't have lettuce as true Greek salad doesn't and a lot of places add the cheap lettuce to make it look bigger! Everything was very tasty and you could tell it was homemade.. The waiter was very attentive and the rest of the staff were just so friendly and pleasant - you could tell it was a family owned / run business ! Definitely going there again with the rest of the family ! Even told our friends about it! Very impressed with the place, Staff & food!
There were 5 of us and we ordered 4 banquets , 2 seafood type and 2 meat based. There was plenty for 5 people intact even more. The lamb was amazing, succulent and delicious! All the staff were so friendly, happy as well as being very professional. I would definitely go again.
Aja. My friends and I love this place. Each time we have gone we always order the banquet with dips & pita bread, spanakopita, haloumi, dolmades, lamb, beef patties, sausages & skewers of lamb and chicken. The food is plentiful, amazing and for less than $30 pp you really can't find better value for what you receive. The waiters are always extremely friendly and accomodating. We visited last week with a group of 6 and they even bought out complimentary greek filo and custard desserts at the end of our meal! Our favourite greek restaurant in Sydney by far
A M A Z I N G ! ! !. Wow! Wow! Wow! The best customer service by far!!! If you have not visited yet 3 Olives Restaurant on 365 King St in Newtown then you make sure you do. Maximum satisfaction. For a minute I thought I'm on a holiday somewhere in Greek islands... everything is about comfort and friendliness to them. You will sure to have an awesome night along with delicious dinner. Michael who looked after us all night is a staff everyone wishes to have. He knows what a great customer service is all about. He'd go above and beyond you've ever experienced. I only have one word to say about 3 Olives: A M A Z I N G !
Exceptional ... just superb. You can really taste the difference with their high quality specially selected produce. Our meals were absolutely lovely. I'm still having tastebud flashbacks of the rich tomato sauce in their prawn saganaki, the artichokes and broad beans in lemon dill butter and the strawberry from heaven. I was hanging on every euphoric mouthful. It's no surprise that you usually need to make a reservation.
The 3 girlfriends went to the 3 Olives because of great recommendations. Initially, the person who chose the restaurant, me, was a bit nervous as the decor is completely unpretentious, however the service was really good, and the 3 meals (kalamari, lamb and moussaka) were each wonderful and generous. Actually we finished the kalamari and moussaka quick smart, but there was so much lamb, the girlfriend opened it up beyond tasting to completely sharing. Price is very reasonable - so big tick for service, quality and value at the 3 Olives.
Fantastic service. Celebrated my birthday at 3 Olives and we were all bowled over by the warm and welcoming staff who went out of their way to make us feel at home.
The banquet menu was delicious and plentiful. Our table of 12 valiantly tried to polish off everything but in the end, we were defeated by the sheer quantities.
Standouts were the pita bread (!), lamb shanks, filo cheese parcels and calamari (in most cases, this would've been a failed dish as the batter didn't stick to the calamari but the calamari was so tender that I'm willing to overlook that. I happily ate my way through a mound of these).
Overall, tasty food complemented by wonderful service. The restaurant is cosy but could get noisy with big groups. It also doesn't seem to have desserts but that's not a problem in cafe-centric Newtown.
The food here is fantastic. A great authentic Greek taverna complete with Greek music and the friendliest hosts you could imagine. If they smiled anymore, you'd be worried what they have been up too! A great experience and reasonably priced we'll be back!
Great!. We went here on new years day, one of very few places on King St that were open and it was fantastic from start to finish. The service was amazing and extremely friendly, the food totally delicious and cooked very well. The ambience was just right and well suited and of course the prices per portions were spot on. I'd definitely recommend it whether it be for a large group or just a couple and I will most definitely be going back.
While I wouldn't call it traditional greek food, it was delicious nonetheless. The sauces are delicious, and the meat was perfectly tender. I would highly recommend the grilled haloumi! The service was excellent too.
TOTALLY BRILLIANT. Service, food, ambiance, price. Perfect Greek Cuisine. Highly recommended, extremely glad to have found it.
