Nice coffee and such lovely staffs!
Great food, great service, never have to wait for food and rarely missing ordered item. Love this place!! The quality of the food is really good and fresh!!
Amazing! I like Pimp Mi Goreng so much. The sauce is really good, and the chicken chest is juicy. My friend ordered Mac Daddy. There was a lot of cheese in that course. She said it is too milky after having it. Anyway, nice brunch and I will go eating others next time.
The dishes here r extremely famtastic, i didn’t expect the food is so good like this! The service here is very friendly and careful
I loved this place! It's the best brunch meal I've had in a long time. The dishes are really interesting and different, I had a kimchi scrambled egg with chilli and goats cheese which was AMAZING I ate it so quickly. It was also served with charcoal bread which looked cool. My friend ordered mi goreng chicken burger which looked awesome and the noodles made it super crunchy. The cafe also looks really cool with mirrors and neon lighting. Very unexpected how good it was!
Convenient cafe with Tasty bacon themed dishes - positioned right outside Newtown station. Place has quality coffee and nice staff - loaded chips with sweet mayo sauce and burger were super tasty.
Excellent food, service and coffee. Well plated dishes with plenty of creativity and great flavours. Nice vibe and it's always enjoyable to people watch. Their loaded croissant was sensational. Extensive menu so I'll be beck to get through the rest of it. A must visit in Newtown.
Visited a few times since it opened, service has been consistently good.
Had the latest version of Gorgeous Jorge (their avo on toast) and it was very enjoyable and filling. Balsamic vinegar caviar was bomb. The pesto on the toast was a little overpowering though.
Also tried a little of the kimchi scrambled egg dish and that was done really well and it had a strong yet satisfying flavour. Would recommend.
Amazing Bacon Mac Daddy! Always my go to dish as the combination of the bacon, creamy mac and cheese, crispy croissant and the poach egg was BOMB!
One of our staple cafes! A must try if you are in Newtown. Coffee and food is always delicious and the service is fast and friendly. Recommend the ‘Gorgeous Jorge’.
MacDaddy ($20)
French Toast ($22)
⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
🍴Located right next to #newtown station, this cafe serves gorgeous looking food with quirky cute names that also taste good. Return of the macdaddy was a croissant filled with bacon, mac & cheese, tomato relish and a poached egg. Would never have thought that noodles and croissant can pair but it somehow worked. The croissant could have been crispier and the tomato relish was a bit sweet but the components went together to make for a filling and interesting dish. I speak fluent French toast was a sweet treat and the most unique part was the deep fried Nutella that was coated in bread crumbs to become a sweet chocolatey crunchy goodness. The sweet vanilla gelato and Nutella was nicely balanced with the slightly sour berries and ricotta.

Can’t walk past on the way to work without grabbing my favourite coffee! Delicious menu for weekend brunch, my top pick in Newtown for sure!
We’ve been a few times (can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet) and every time I’m super impressed. Coffee is great, food is delicious and not your run of the mill cafe fare and the service is friendly and efficient without being over the top. Today’s breakfast was the Pimp Mi Goreng and the Silver Fox had the Bacon McDaddy. Both were so good and totally worth the calories, I regret nothing. Looking forward to going back
Definitely recommend their mi goreng chicken burger! Packed full of interesting flavours whilst maintaining that integrity a burger should have. Certainly would visit again.
What a great little cafe in the most unusual of places. I have literally walked past 50 times and thought wow there’s always a lot of people at this station cafe. Well it’s gorgeous, location aside it’s fresh and flavourful food matched with great service is highly recommended. Can’t wait to try something else from the menu but my Gorgeous Jorge was yummy! Went again and enjoyed several other menu items and have increased my review by an extra star!
So this just became my fav cafe in Sydney! Super dog friendly- all staff love dogs, and very good service. Had one of the best cappuccinos I have ever had for a long time. The food was also sensational, very big portion and nicely presented. The smoothie was light and fresh! Just loved everything here!
While the pictures and hype appear amazing, the most popular MacDaddy dish was quite a disappointment. It was high in creativity but lacking in flavor. A decent place, although perhaps the other dishes taste better. At least the service was fantastic.
Good and prompt service with delicious food
The Big Daddy was very fulfilling and a little sweet with each element complementing each other.
The Sideway Shuffle was even better, with a refreshing watermelon touch. Do recommend these dishes.
The coffee was okay.
I had the Bacon Mcdaddy which was honestly one of my favourite brunch dishes I've had in any cafe - I can imagine why some people might think it gets heavy towards the end and is super filling (couldn't finish mine) but had some interesting flavours as well! Portion sizes are worth the price and would highly recommend this dish if you ever go there! Service was very friendly and really nice atmosphere :)
I’ve always loved the food at Cuckoo Callay. The mac and cheese/bacon croissant is decadent and amazing. The mac and cheese is cheesy and flavorful, while the buttery croissant ties the dish together.
Definitely recommend their bacon menu!! Their Mac n cheese croissant was amazing. We tried the hot chocolate with bacon...that was interesting....
I'm not sure why I don't eat here more often. Every time I drop in, I am delighted by the choices on the menu. It's nice to go out for brunch and have options that are a little outside of ordinary. The coffee and food have always been bang on, so I really must return a little more frequently.
On my most recent visit I took a small group so that we could share a few different things. Pro tip - Four is the perfect number to get enough variety, but to not have to skimp on your serving of each!
I am a massive fan of the Sideways Shuffle. The 63 degree poached egg is always perfect and drizzles nicely over the spanner crab cake perched upon avocado and corn salsa, watermelon slices, greens and cucumber and lime jelly. Every single element in this dish serves a purpose and adds to the overall delicious combination of flavours.
The Say Cheese Kimchi is another creative take on the standard scrambled eggs. The fermented chilli, and kimchi give a fresh kick, whilst the shitake mushrooms and crumbed goats feta add a creamy richness that rounds out this wild breakfast spread.
Finally I always find it hard to go past good breakfast fritters, which are delivered well on the All that Fritters is Gold. Halloumi and corn fritters with labne, some choice veg and a poached egg.
The coffee is always good, as is their proper hot chocolate. The hot chocolate come with extra pouring chocolate and a marshmallow, so I was in dead set heaven (and a food coma) by the time I left.
Must return!
I ordered the "Sideways shuffle" which comprised of a blue swimmer crab cake with watermelon, avocado and corn salsa, cucumber and lemon jelly and a poached egg.
I initially thought the combination was unusual but it balanced out well to make a delicious dish. I would have preferred a larger portion size.
The cafe has a nice ambience and it's a welcome surprise to see dog treats on the menu!
The staff are friendly and helpful. I would visit this cafe again and in the future, ask the staff about how filling the dish is before ordering it.
Great spot for a catch up with friends! I ordered the Roll Over Granola along with a side of their chips served with Russian dressing. The Roll Over Granola was a stunning dish to look at and the taste was equally as delightful. The raspberry granola and yoghurt provided a pleasant symphony of sour and sweet and there was a cute maple syrup milkshake to wash it down. Would definitely come again for Instagram worthy snaps!
The food was amazing and service was excellent. I had a MacDaddy and it was very satisfying. Our waitress was very nice and patient even though we took a long time ordering. Overall, a lovely experience.
Lovely place with lots of pink, a cool chandelier and succulents everywhere. It's right next to the Newtown train station entrance, so plenty of people watching opportunities, and it's doggo friendly!
The Bacon Mackdaddy is an experience! Order this if it's your first visit. One awesome Ruben too. Not only is it filled with pickles, you get more on the side!
The service is quick and very friendly. Definitely coming back!
Always great food that is well thought out and put together. Sometimes the execution falls a bit short or staff forget some components but all in all I keep returning cause the flavours are so good. The smashed avo dish is always on point.
Tried out the bacon macdaddy during bacon month! Honestly one of the filthiest croissant burgers i have ever tried! It had a unique and different taste as all the ingredients created a mix of textures. The cafe offers a variety of brunch food you can choose from! The price is on a more expensive side, but for the portions you get, its pretty good! It’s situated perfectly right next to the station and staff are lovely! The interior of the cafe looks amazing!
Outstanding service, excellent food & overall great atmosphere. Be prepared to wait for a table, plan ahead and book! Worth the wait either way
@cuckoocallay_cafe a perfect place to start your Saturday. A cute little cafe full of charm and attentive services 👍 Bacon Macdaddy was our fav 💕their juices🥤
Verdict: make it a regular🍹

Food is good. Perhaps too many (deep) fried menu items though. Their current chicken burger is the best I have eaten in my life. YOU MUST TRY!!! Love that they have a menu for your dogs as well.
The chai latte is definitely a must try! The hint of honey in it really made it stand out from all the other chai lattes I’ve tried. Food was great too, the bacon macdaddy was super rich but I would recommend the Piggie Smalls. It’s a good balance of flavours and the green peppers really cuts through all the cheese and bacon.
Came here to check out the Bacon fest. The MCDaddy really caught our attention, so we both ordered the same thing. The Mac and cheese was a really unique feature of this dish, I enjoyed it very much, but it was too filling for me to finish. Wouldn’t mind coming back to try the other items. But I just wanted to note that we did have to wait for about 30 mins for a table, and to our dismay, when we were led to our table, there were actually several very empty tables inside and outside and we didn’t understand why they couldn’t have sat us earlier. Are they really going for that “desirable” image where lots of ppl are waiting outside? Or they don’t think they can cope with that many tables? In which case, maybe the need more staff since they know it is peak hour on a Sunday morning?
Always good coffee and food. Staff are always friendly! Big servings so make sure you’re hungry. The tomato relish is super sweet so not everyone’s style but I really love it!
Dogs are the new kids in Newtown and a steady stream of pooches drifted into this nice little cafe for their morning maple treats from a jar on the ordering window.
We ordered a divinely delicious breakfast almost too beautiful to eat, I honestly don’t know how the cafes of Newtown compete. It must be ferocious to stay on top. In desperation, I sense it’s all a bit OTT and in the pursuit of the perfect culinary delights we might be performing a kind of culinary escapism: escape from high rents, work pressures, loneliness and everyday dirt. In Sydney, this is definitely started early in the day with breakfast... maybe at Cuckoo Callay. Snicker snack.
I came and enjoyed a wonderful brunch here with my friends. All of us ordered the croissant so it seemed funny to take photos. The croissant was good and I considered it to be better if more sauce were added. I love the sauce in the croissant. I was expected to see latte art in my matcha latte but obviously there wasn't from my pictures, a bit disappointed but the taste was still beautiful hhh. The pineapple juice was refreshing but not recommended for those who don't like mints. Anyway, the brunch was fantastic and I hope to try something new next time I come here.
This is really an awesome place for brunch.cuckoo callay is near the train station,so it's really easy to find.the food and service here is great, and its a nice place for a beautiful morning
Came here on a Friday afternoon at around 2pm. Apparently, it had quietened down and I had come at a good time!
Just like the Surry Hills location only more nostalgic and sentimental. Same menu, same quality, just different side of town.
I had the Bacon Mac Daddy again, it was very satisfying, a big treat! Highly recommended :)
Breakfast had at this cafe located near Newtown Station. Buzzing with lots of people picking up the their morning cup of java before getting on the train. Greeted warmly by a very friendly waitress. She checked up on me to make sure my meal was good. Water brought to the table quickly.
The choices for breakfast/brunch/lunch is an all day affair so doesn’t matter if you arrive early or late you get the same choices throughout the day so no FOMO. Went with a Bacon MacDaddy and a Cuckoo’s Beetroot Latte Bon. The meal was a large croissant filled with all sorts of yummy stuff like bacon mac & cheese, 63 degree egg, bacon, and tomato relish topped with fried shallots. Not sure how good it is for your waistline but you will thank yourself for the taste sensation. The beetroot latte is a striking colour and taste is pretty good.
Great location for an "in transit" breakfast break.
We have walked past this place a million times on the way to work, but finally we had friends in town and were able to make it out for brekky.
When we rocked up the place was pretty busy so we wrote down our name on the waiting list and proceeded to wait.
When we got sat we were amused by the names on the menu and interested in the options. My bestie and I both got the same dish that consisted of toast with pesto, avocado, tomatoes, hummus, and a poached egg. The guys chose meaty dishes. My partner ended up with a croissant with bacon, eggs, and mac and cheese.
We also ordered coffees that came out prompt, and the staff was very kind and helpful.
We felt the fact that we couldn't split bills as a party of 4 was a bit annoying. There was also a bit of a wait considering we were on the top of the list and people below us sat first. Having previous experience in hospitality I understand, but when it comes to hangry people and a table it becomes a nuisance.
Overall a good experience, and we will make an appearance when guests are in town.
Took a little while to find this place, wasn’t expecting it to be right next to the train station. Location aside, this place packs a serious breakfast punch. There are things on the menu that I’m sure you wouldn’t have eaten before. For example my Mah-Sriracha - 12 hour beef brisket in BBQ sauce, on bamboo sourdough, with brocolini, sriracha mayo and a poached egg - what?! It was awesome!
The latte however was a little bitter for me. Service is friendly and considerate but be patient, these creations take about 30 minutes to come out of the kitchen. So if you’ve got little ones as we did, take a snack if they are starving.
Easy to find just by Newtown Station. The food was beautifully presented and tasted pretty good, I enjoyed my crab cake with watermelon, a sweet savoury combination while my partner enjoyed the chia pudding which brought excitement with different flavours and textures within the little pretty cup. It is a small cafe with no air-conditioning and quite a fair wait if you visit during peak periods but this is worth the wait with a good relaxed ambience like all cafes in Newtown.
Haha I tried this lovely brunch store 24th Aug. 2017.
I gonna remember it forever coz it is my birthday. Lol. The food is cute and tasty. I saw the best latte art here - leaves 🍁 and swan. It really makes your day.
You asked the waiter or waitress about their signature dishes and what they recommend are worth to try.
Very good impression, probably partially cuz we didn’t expect it will be this good as we just randomly picked one cafe near the train station due to the hot weather.
We ordered smashed avocado and another beef something which according to the staff is one of their signatures. Both very well done and looks pretty cool. The Apple juice and coffee are also quite nice and decent.
The staffs are friendly and even helped us take several lomo pictures. Definitely will come back.
The bacon mac daddy Was very satisfying. The macaroni has this enhanced satisfying flavour to it and I was impressed.
The other dish I believe was called chocolate salty balls which is french toast. Initially I thought this was great but the sour custard taste was too strong and I didn't like it afterwards Leon tells me it's better at its Surry hills counterpart
The place is small and after reading sum reviews I can see why they say service isn't great! They seem run off there feet! Hire more staff!
An interesting menu with many not so usual options that's always a pleasure for the mind...literally sitting down and looking at the menu with too many choices is always a good sign!
So did our choices deliver? I guess in terms of the Rabbit Food, other places do a better salad like Saga...then the Crab Cake was well done but possibly a touch to heavy with the pepper....and finally the warmed "gooey" brownie while yes rich with notes of dark chocolate, not gooey at all...probably three-four days old...
I would say the creativity and offerings do have some pull on us but I guess it won't be a near future thing....
Came here for breakfast and just picked the ‘Gorgeous George of the West’. They said they had a vegan option for this but I was quite disappointed when they didn’t replace the eggs or feta with anything - not mushrooms etc. Otherwise, the dish was well-presented, tasty and it was well spiced but, it was expensive for what I received. Bread was also amazing!!
Staff are friendly and atmosphere is great, just hopefully they can label clearer vegan options (I mean more and more people are vegan nowadays) and be able to make substitutions.
Brunch was delicious, one thing i have to say is my pull pork was a tad too salty but other than that everything else was spot on! My BF and I enjoyed dining at this cafe, good customer service and it is pet-friendly, they also serve Puppucino 😍! Will come back for sure.
Bacon festival is all I need to hear and I'm sent running! Cuckoo Callay offee a unique, quirky dining experience in the heart of Newtown. I had the pleasure of consuming the Mac Daddy and a nutella shake. Needless to say, I rolled home smilling from ear to ear!
Been here twice and it has been amazing both times! Absolutely my favourite brunch place in Sydney. Yesterday we ordered the bacon mcdaddy and the sideways shuffle which were both fantastic. We ordered the pancakes for dessert and I need to say, I've never been a pancake person but this blew me away! When the waitress brought it over and I was surprised at how beautiful it was but then I took my first bite which tasted even better than it looks. It was a cross between pancakes and fondant and I had savoured every bite. I will definitely be back just to eat those delicious pancakes!
This brunch spot looks whimsical, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. My friend recommended the Bacon Macdaddy: a soft croissant, bacon tomato jam, bacon, bacon mac and cheese, a 60 degree egg, topped with fried shallots. I couldn’t eat anything else that day, it was great!
I also loved the fact that they offered puppuccinos which explained why so many customers brought their dogs with them.
It was difficult, however, to get the attention of the servers (but it's probably because the place was so packed).
So impressed with this cafe! Finally got to try cuckoo Callay after three years. Three years ago I went to Newtown and their kitchen was closing. Yesterday before class I got my hands on the pretty in pink (pannacotta)! My goodness that granola is to die for!! Panacotta so smoothe like no other. Presentation and service skills are 5/5!
Mac and cheese, in a croissant, with bacon? As ridiculous as it sounds it tasted pretty damn good. I just wish there was more bacon or something crispy because it was a little too much of the soft and gooey. I’d go back, but I’d try something else on the menu.
Came in with the family for a weekend brekkie at the Surry Hills outlet of Cuckoo Callay. We got seated after a short wait on the second floor. The wait staff were all very friendly & accommodating. The coffees were excellent as was our breakfast orders. The favourites were the Salty Chocolate Balls aka the French toast & the crab dish (I forgot the name 😁). Hopefully, the Bacon Festival is still on when we actually get to the Newtown outlet!
Cal boom! The beef is really juicy, a good match with toast bread and 63C egg. The Broccoli just balances the heavy taste. Second one is cheesy but can be forgiven by these good bacons. May need more time to digest today's lunch😋
Yasss I love the foods! And the decor is kinda funky and modern. Love going there have a brunch and then shop around New Town afterwards! Keep up with the good work Cuckoo Callay!
I have passed by this café many times(It's right outside the Newtown station. I promise you won't miss it because Newtown station has only one exit!) but I never had any opportunity to sit down and have a nice brunch.
Finally when winter holiday came I was able to sit for a couple of hours, try their brunch, and enjoy a nice afternoon.
My first attempt is #Egg on toast# + haloumi, together with #Chai Latte#. Having tried their toast, I was quite confused why this shop has such a high rating. Scrambled egg is fresh and nice. But, the toast is almost black and burnt, which tastes bitter. So did haloumi. I couldn't even finish it up
However I still decide to try again. Second time it is awesome. I came with my friends, who had one of their best brunch #Bacon McDaddy#. The croissant smells really nice, and is perfect with eggs. I tried their new dish, which is a pancake, filling with sweet cream.
So this café can give you surprise(On the premise that you picked up the right one). I still want to go again and try their other dishes.
Came here for brunch today as was wondering past and I'm so glad I did. The flavours in the food were exceptional, and the presentation was immaculate. I honestly can't critique a single thing about our meal, and I think the price was right for the quality that was brought to the table.
My only complaint was that I personally felt the service was a little cold and it took a while for our coffees to come and were served with the food even though they were ordered quite a while before. Definitely recommend checking this place out 👍🏼👌🏽
A great cafe for bacon lovers as most of the dishes on the menu are revolved around it. Although the food took ages to come out it was very well worth the wait! I ordered the pancakes which tasted amazing as there were alot of different elements to it. But it was very sweet so best to share with someone. I dont like bacon that much but the bacon mac n cheese fries tasted pretty good as well.
I do all my food research on Instagram so when I was looking up brunch places, I came across Cuckoo Callay. Located just outside Newtown station (literally outside), this cafe was having their 3rd annual bacon festival. The bacon festival dishes had names that were puns of popular movies like Slumhog Millionaire and Jurrasic Pork.
Reservoir hogs - Bacon wrapped burrito with pork and black bean chilli from the the baconfest 3 menu. The frankenswine was definitely a hit as well.
In the midst of Newtown kitsch a coffee-cafe was born,Striving for the perfect grub and coffee fix, their combo was second to none. With the perfect nook to cache, Ella and Ibby released their dreams to you,and so the tantalising of tastebuds began and the perfect coffee hit did too. Callooh Callay come eat today, like cabbages and kings!

ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Cuckoo Callay! From the INCREDIBLE food, to the AMAZING service, to the quirky atmosphere- I am in love with it ALL here! It is extremely conveniently located at Newtown station (meaning you don't even need to worry about parking), and sitting outside on a nice Sunday morning makes for a great Sunday funday brekkie! We ordered the "Frankenswine" (mozarella sticks wrapped in bacon and covered in an amazing dorito crumb), the "Black swine" (loaded fries with mac and cheese, bacon and some incredible seasoning that tasted alot like taco seasoning- I don't even usually like loaded fries, BUT these I would definitely return for because they were DROOL WORTHY!), "Some like it hog (peanut butter and bacon stuffed french toast) and the "Bacon Mac Daddy" (the delicious croissant with bacon mac and cheese and tomato relish.... HOLY HECKBALLS, this was amazing). This is by far one of my favourite brekkie places! I will definitely be returning!
One of my favorite things about Sydney is the cafe culture. Cute cafes, with excellent food, are can be found all over the city. Nearly everywhere serves breakfast (and weekend brunch) and puts serious energy into the menus, not just boring eggs and toast. In particular, I'm always interested in the sweet items (ok, no surprise there), but they go so far beyond your standard pancakes/french toast/waffles, like the fantastic breakfast rice pudding at Pinbone or the unique breakfast tapioca pudding at Devon cafe.
Went here with a friend on a Sunday the wait was about an hour long just to get a table. Once we got in the waiters there weren't much help. They'll see us putting out hands up then walk away... the food took quite a bit of time to get come. The food was good but taking the time and service into consideration? Not worth all of this fuss.
Weekend it means a yay day for brunch. We had mac daddy and the other one forgot the name. They were wonderful. The Mac & cheese was perfect with the croissant + fried shallot. Who would think that they would form a perfect combination? The slow cooked beef was tasty, almost similar to rendang. They paired it up with sourdough toast and 63 eggs.
The only thing that i want to point out is the eggs could be better and more runny. And the croissant can be more crunchy.
Overall its one of the best place to have brunch in sydney.
Visited Cuckoo Callay after seeing many Instagram-worthy pictures of them online. Handy location (basically at the Newtown station). I ordered the Sideways Shuffle. One of the most memorable platings I've ever seen! Blue swimmer crab cake with corn & avocado salsa, watermelon (obviously!), cucumber & melon jelly and a 63 degrees poached egg. Yum. This dish definitely deserves more than a 'Star'!

Couldn't be anymore bacon.
Smooth and aromatic coffee, then bacon in literally everything and every way possible (and impossible). Bacon in your hot chocolate? Why not (picture as proof). This cafe needs to be commended for its attention to detail and including bacon in every aspect from the decor to it's menu and more importantly the offerings. They even sell bacon merchandise (bacon toothpaste).
If you're a fan of bacon, welcome home. If not, you may just become one.
Cuckoo Callay always has a great ambiance with plenty of pooches to pat.
You can expect a line however the wait is always worth it (the longest I've had to wait is 20-30 mins).
The coffee is consistently great (Coffee Alchemy), service is friendly and the food is always delicious. It's simply the best Inner West cafe.
My all time favourite is a special meal served during the bacon festival. Pictured at the bottom, 'Silence of the Hams' – a ham hock and vintage cheddar croquette, topped with pea pannacotta, side saddled by bacon jam and a 63° poached egg.
You must try a Cuckoo Callay poached egg! All eggs are free range and all food is ethically sourced from local suppliers.
Happy eating :)
Been planning to come here for their bacon festival and I just made it before it's ended! I just could not visit a place that shares my appreciation for puns. Their bacon-themed menu for the festival were movies that were 'punned' to fit in the pork theme. I ordered the Silence of the Ham (how cute are these names!). The 'croquette' was pretty interesting - chunks of potatoes and string cheese and pork bits deep fried into the patty. The first bites were pretty good but I got a little bit sick of the flavours after a while. The croquettes were quite decadent and the over-sweetness of the drizzled maple-honey sauce at the bottom didn't really help. The guac on the side added a nice freshness so that's good!
I ordered the One Night Stand drink which had beautiful layers of colours from the raspberry, passionfruit and orange juices. Probably best to mix it because I didn't and it got real sour towards the bottom!
Gorgeous sunshine day in Sydney/!! The cafe was packed. One waiter was amazing and reserved a seat for 2 of us and a pram, in a great spot. He was very professional and considerate. Thankyou.
We ordered the matcha soy latte and a coffee, a great start. For mains I had the 'green monster' and my girlfriend ordered 'cindrella's breakfast '.
It just took ages to arrive . Almost waiting 30 minutes , which is way long at a cafe, the dishes came out . Despite the lengthy wait. both dishes were well presented and appetising . The only thing was that my greens were really oily from the chermoula , the chilli oil had soaked all through my bread which was soggy. Luckily our fantastic waiter promptly replaced the soggy gf bread.
Great service and good food although it took a while . Greens were way too oily, but nevertheless all the flavours were there it was well balanced .
I'm from Melbourne town , and this place gets my heads up . 😍
Trendy, pet friendly. A lil slow on the service but great spot. Food wasn't too bad but it wouldn't be my first choice.
Fab food - the avocado on toast with poached egg was perfect and a generous serving of avo. Staff were incredibly friendly and really efficient. Nice spot to sit and people watch. Would definitely go again!
Great little place next to Newtown station, with some very different breakfast delights! Reasonably priced, very friendly service, great coffee and delicious food. We had the McCuckoo and the Chilli Question and were both pleased and full!
Located immediately next to the train station makes for a perfect stop off spot. The cafe has a vibrant and modern aesthetic with good coffee. Get the Cuckoo’s Nest breakfast - SO GOOD!
Hey locals! If you want something extraordinary good-looking on your plate, something that will get your taste buds in the move - this is the right place where to go!
I have been trying different cafes in the area but I always get regularly looking food with a regular taste. (You know... it’s easy to play safe, right?)
But then I discovered Cuckoo Calley and bam! This is exactly what I need. Food is delicious and nicely presented. The staff is friendly, polite and their service is on the point. Their coffee doesn't have a competition in the area at all and I cannot imagine starting my day without one.
I had a brunch there a couple of hours ago and now I am lying on my sofa with a food coma writing this review because people should know about this place more! 👌🏼💕
Thank you Cuckoo Calley Newtown team! ☺️
Cuckoo Callay is located in a great location, right next to the train station. The outdoor seating is great and indoor is stylishly decorated, but when we arrived many of the tables were dirty though it was completely empty. The staff seemed a bit indifferent as well. However, both dishes we ordered were wonderful. The price is higher than other brunch places in the area at $20+ per dish, and the quality or environment was not necessarily better. I didn’t have a bad experience because I did enjoy the food, but I probably wouldn’t return due to the surrounding brunch places being cheaper, cleaner, and having friendlier staff.
