This place is very cozy and homey. The waitress was also very friendly. The Forest bowl was definitely my favourite. It’s got I love in one dish - roasted cauliflower, broccoli, pumpkin, pistachio and hummus. The chicken skewers weren’t anything special though.
I dined here on a Saturday night with a friend. We decided to get a few dishes and share. We had the following dishes:
- Bocconcini falafel ($3 each) - these were better than i expected. Crispy outside with a flavoursome, cheesy inside. Delish
- Haloumi fries ($12) - Haloumi cooked perfectly, plenty of crunch on the outside and the sauce was a good level of tang
- Israeli salad ($12) - a refreshing complement to the meal, fresh chopped salad with cucumber, tomato and onion
- "The forest" ($21) - Crispy cauliflower, broccoli
, chickpeas, roast pumpkin, carrot with hummus and pistachio. Yum! Veggies were all cooked well and were hearty and filling
- Pita bread ($2 each) - Soft, pillowy and warm pita bread worked a treat to mop up the dip.
Overall, I liked the food at Shenkin and didn't feel like I was missing out because there was no meat in what we ate.

This busy little cafe is worth getting up early for just to make sure you get a seat.
I had the haloumi Shakshuka and it was great. Good coffee and service too.
Licensed cafe with some nice vegan dishes. I wouldn't normally notice but I was there with some vegans, and many of the starters fit the bill well, with some great cauliflower and hommus and fried dishes. The mains generally had meat or at least had cheese and we didn't have any of them and they seemed worse value at $20 compared to $10 for the starters. A few beers and wines available. Service is ok and there are tables on the street and out in a courtyard.
A trendy little cafe in the heart of Enmore with a middle eastern twist to their menu.
Staff are friendly and service is really quick. Lots of items on the menu and a variety of sweet treats in the display window.
I ordered the Ziva, which was tasty and I liked how all the condiments came out separately so you could mix to your own personal taste. The tastes of all the condiments were great. The cheese in the pasty wasn’t as rich as the menu suggests, but that’s ok. I suppose it’s good to be aware that it’s not just a subtle flavour.
I’d be interested to try some of the other things on the menu. The Shakshuka that was being served looked and smelled great.
Cute cafe which had been in my bookmarks for quite some time. And I'm glad to have finally made my way there because everything we tried was so delicious! Fresh and strong flavours although the portions are not too big for the price. Plenty of vegan options.
Really delicious food, huge portion, a really hearty lunch on a rainy day.
I have visited the Surry Hills Shenkin several times, but the visit to this Enmore one was particularly delightful without the long wait.
I took my mum who visited from overseas to try Shenkin, and she was very impressed with the middle eastern twist of brunch/lunch cafe food.
Staff were all friendly and attentive. Would definitely revisit.
Service is a bit mixed, and some dishes are definitely better than others - hence not 5 out of 5 - but the baked eggs are really flavourful and the waffles were the perfect texture. Great coffee and lovely atmosphere too. It does get busy so be prepared to wait at peak times, but it's worth it for those baked eggs!
When I lived in Melbourne one of my favourite places was Danny's. It was a little Israeli cafe run by a family. After moving back to Sydney I have been searching for a similar place.
And Shenkin Kitchen is nothing like Danny's. It is still very good. The vibe is Newtown, darkish lighting and large heavy tables.
I had the falafel burger with tempura veggies. My partner had the Shakshuka.
I would recommend that anyone who is a vegetarian get the burger. I have never seen a burger like it. Or tasted. Crunch vegetables, a patty of falafel, and avocado.
Apparently the shakshuka was amazing as well.
Loved it! Great food (all the dishes were really nice) and good, fast service. Will be coming back after being left with a deeply positive impression! :)
I would have given Shenkin 4.5 stars tbh. I love people watching front windows at restaurants (theirs is perfect) the staff were welcoming, food was fresh, well presented, cooked in an incredible style, and so tasty, however one little mistake from our waitress kind of ruined my experience. I ordered 'The Bite' which I've been keen to try for weeks, it's main part being an 'avocado felafel' which I had been SO excited to try, and my bf ordered the Israeli Big Breakfast. When they came out, the waitress (who wasn't the same person who took our order) says "Israeli Big Breakfast?" To which I point to my partner and she puts that one in front of him and he immediately starts scoffing down after saying "wow this really is a big breakfast, looks awesome!" I took a while to start eating as I was taking my usual food pics for this here review... I looked at his, looked at mine, and felt envious and confused. His looked like what I wanted, and mine looked rather small, and I couldn't see my supposed mushrooms, or felafel.. and I'd never order something with smoked salmon. I was confused. I took a bite of the pita which I thought must of had the avocado felafel blend inside, nothing. It was then I realized the waitress gave us each other's meals!! My bf was literally half way through, and he dropped his cutlery and profusely apologized, but it was the waitresses fault. He didn't realize as we ordered the same side of hashbrown. I was sooo pissed off. Still am! Took away my excitement for trying that dish, I didn't even get a bite. We swapped at that point so he got 1.5 entire meals. All I had was a hash brown and some salad left. Also the egg had a hollandaise kind of sauce smothered on it (which I detest) and it had smeared over everything, as my bf loves the stuff. The desserts from the cabinet weren't amazing, but they were only $4. We had the lemon tart and brownie. The brownie tasted like it had rum or liquor in it. Def go for the waffles on the menu if you're opting for a shared dessert. I couldn't help but leave feeling super disappointed, and I think the owner noticed. When we went to pay and leave he was overly nice talking about the lovely weather and asking q's about our weekend etc. I'll be back, but will definitely be cautious when they bring out the meals next time. And will probably try the Erskinville one as it has the Israeli lemonade and Gin option on the drinks menu.
Definitely a successful blend of Turkish flavours and the cafe food we all have come to love! The Shakshuka, I don't know if I would say it's the best I've ever had but it's pleasant.
Their take on the breakfast bowl yeap..! Again, not the best but it's up there as one of the favourites...overall what we did come to love is fresh pita...yes we ordered extra pita....fresh pita and dips = heaven...
We're not that hard to please!
Definitely would recommend but not exactly dishes we would come back for...maybe in two or three months?
Delicious and different menu. Middle eastern / Israeli with a twist. Some great healthy options for breaks and lunch. Always consistent and coffee is always great (at any of the other outlets too). Service is fast and friendly. Only downside is that it gets really busy so may have to wait for a table and can be very hot inside the store.
Love the menu here, and I love the overall decor. Service the day I went was a little slow, and I hate to say it a bit rude, but it's all in days work I suppose. I loved the middle eastern influences on each and every plate, and I thought the portion sizes for the prices were really great.
Its been sometime since the recommendations started on Shenkin's Shak. I picked the perfect rainy day to visit and after getting through the pokey rabbit-warren I resided in the back courtyard. The dining area is a little congested, and between seats, staff running around and people trying to pay its a little bit crazy up front, so i recommend making way to a little peace outdoors.
The coffee is sensationally good. After expecting a pretty simple menu with the basics it was tiring to see how much was available - enough for a significant amount of repeat visits to gauge the real abilities in their food, alongside sufficient time to actually read through the menu. It is a bit of a task.
The haloumi and eggplant shak ($19) was top of my list. The haloumi was plentiful and not too salty, and seasoned the rest of the dish well, although it is fried haloumi, not seared, although beautifully soft inside. The eggs alone are delicious, and one of the better creamy yolks out there. The pita is soft and fluffy and in turn quite filling. Garlic wasn't evident so much, and in terms of flavour and spice I was expecting from the shakshuka, the pepper & tomato mix fell a little flat for me.
Overall, its a good, cosy, and homely little cafe with stellar coffee, and a gorgeous, warm vibe amongst the staff here.
Humble, homely and family oriented, these are the words we use to describe Shenkin Cafe. The guys behind the picture are brothers who have brought their Israeli background to our Sydney cafe scene. Combined with good family values and a focus on sharing food with friends, Shenkins menu really offers us a vast array of flavours.
Why not try one of the signature dishes the Israeli breakfast, traditional eggs your way paired with avocado, salmon, fresh Israeli salad, labneh and a warm pita bread. The combination of these ingredients really show how Shenkin stands out amongst the rest over a traditional breaky.
Another fantastic dish is the hummus plate topped with eggplant, mushrooms, chickpeas or eggs. The dish is artistically put together and boasts some incredible flavours.
They are also fully licensed and have some amazing cocktails that are made with fresh fruits, you won't even be able to taste the alcohol. (Dangerous) :) Pop in for dinner as as they are launching a new dinner menu in the Enmore store.
The first time I came to Shenkin (not just this Enmore outlet but any Shenkin) was when I had bumped into friendly strangers on the street, and asked them where they were heading with such early morning vigour. "To get pastries!" they said. So far, I've tried their pastries and their coffee. I really appreciate how bringing your own cup is something the outlet/franchise encourages with a $0.50 discount. It's not publicised, I don't think.
Neat little cafe on a busy rd in enmore, I was gonna just pass it by when this chocolate croissant caught my eye. Warmed up just a little bit so it was gooey inside. Very nice.
I have been wanting to come here for some time and when it was one of the only cafes open in the public holiday I was so happy. My meal was so tasty. I had the tuna salad with zucchini flowers and it was full of flavour. The serving size was so generous as well! The staff were friendly and the interiors are casual and nothing pretentious. I would definitely come back here.
We came with the intention of visiting another cafe however it was closed for the long weekend. We had walked past here and thought it had a decent menu so decided to give it a go. We had an Afogatto, Iced Mocha (it was more a combination of a frappe and milkshake as it was blended rather than served the traditional way with ice cream and cream on top but still tasted good), and Shakshuka With Chorizo. It was served with a couple of delicious home made pita breads which were light and fluffy. One of the poached eggs was overcooked and hard whilst the other one was a nice runny consistency for the bread to mop up. The tomatoey sauce had a nice spiciness to it. Service was fine and offered a table in courtyard after enquiringly about it.
Pros: good food with an interesting Jewish twist. The big Israeli breakfast is awesome. Coffee is good and consistent.
Cons: not too many seats.
Good all rounder
We've ordered the salmon and a hummus and falafel plate. Every bite was full of taste, great seasoning! The salmon was perfectly cooked as I like it, and there were those amazing small fried caper flowers? It was delicious. Too bad I couldn't finish my falafel, they were good but I was already full! Will come back for sure.
Didn't have a fair representation as I just had toast. But my aunt enjoyed her coffee(s). Loved the feel of the place however. Is was buzzing, staff were professional and polite. Would recommend.
Shenkin has been on the radar for some time and by chance we managed to score seats for an early weeknight supper. The menu provided was surprisingly limited for a Middle Eastern diner and seemed to suffer a bit of an identity crisis as it wasn't quite souvlaki bar and certainly no fine dining.
The dip platter was a true sampler of what Shenkin are capable of. Each dip was beautifully smooth and seasoned perfectly with a serve of fluffy falafels encased in a crunchy coating. Accompanying bread was toasty, soft and pretty as a picture. My only issue here is that staff did not offer any description of what the dips were. Then again, there is a certain charm in making good of guess work and not quite knowing.
Grilled salmon on the other hand arrived cut into two skinny fillets with a side of garden salad. Roast potatoes were under seasoned but saved by the smoky mushroom sauce. Not the most imaginative dish and certainly not the best grilled salmon I've had, but was fairly satisfying nonetheless. The roasted eggplant ordered by our neighbours gave us food envy and smelt like heaven! Get that if you go!
Yummmm if you feel like brunch mixed with Mediterranean/Israeli food. This is the place. Everything was amazing. And it was so filling! I had the avocado falafel. One word: YUM. I was so excited when I found out I could have labne and hummus as part of brunch. Yummy
The coffee was really good too, nice and creamy and not too bitter. Will definitely be coming back!
Love this place along enmore road, quite a nice European feel with outdoor beer garden area to chat and the music isn't to loud. The staff were quite friendly and attentive and recommends the sabih as it was my first time eating here I advised I didn't want it with egg and they suggested to have to avocado instead along with a pot of green tea. The service was prompt with the drinks being delivered first then the meal. My only gripe was the eggplant was a bit overcooked and burnt but was still quite tasty in the wrap with hommus, spicy coriander and umba. The portion size was OK but should of had something else to accompany it.
Israeli cuisine is the kind that confuses you at first because you have little idea what it entails but you’ll quickly find out that it is delicious. Don’t believe me? Think hummus, bourekas, and sufganiyot. Shenkin Kitchen is one of the few places in Sydney to get your Israeli fix. Since opening in mid-2013, this member of the Shenkin Cafe family has cemented its spot on Enmore’s main strip and is known for its falafel and shakshuka.
All I can say is that I'm super impressed and will come back here.
Initially I was quite reluctant to come to shenkin for breakfast as I had a lunch several months back at the Darlinghurst outlet which I found to be way too salty (walking out with wrinkled puckered salt lips).
Shenkin Enmore was different - it was super busy on Sunday morning and we were lucky to score a seat.
Big cups of warm frothy coffee greeted us followed shortly by sumptuously aromatic food - leaving all of us defending our own dishes from rogue forks dashing in and out trying to get a taste.
The pulled beef shakshuka was an absolute delight - very generous serving of sauce with steamy hot, soft pita bread reminded me of those big pot of mussels you gobble up with crusty bread in winter. I've never really been a fan of shakshuka before, being forced to scrape dry baked eggs off a pan, but this juicy one changed all that. Yum!
My BF got a 'falafel coated crispy avocado' (whatever that is) with mushrooms and toast. It was incredible. If you've never had a crispy deep fried falafel avocado now is the time to try it. We were like seagulls pulling off pieces every time he looked away or took a sip of coffee.
Fluffy well seasoned omlettes and a cabinet full of delectable pastries were the other highlights.
I know where I'm coming next week. ;)
Here's to middle eastern style breakfasts - love!
I love Shenkin Kitchen. It often packed with people but it is one of the few cafe's I am prepared to queue and wait for a spot. Never fails to deliver
Wow Enmore! I was amazed and excited to see the explosion of cool that has happened almost overnight along Enmore Road. With so many great food choices it was a case of just starting somewhere in the sure knowledge that I'll be returning soon. Shenkin kitchen offers lots of hummus shakshouka type options. My pastry stuffed with eggplant hummus olives was delicious, and the service warm and efficient.
Long time eater first time reviewer. Perfect coffee (on soy), great selection. Israeli big breakfast will be my last meal if I were on death row.
Had breakfast with my friend in this lovely cafe. Staff are very friendly and took time to answers questions n make recommendations. I had the Oreo Cookie Monster and the Aussie breakfast. They are both very nice. My friend had latte n the Angeline special with are tasty as well.
Shenkin is my go-to cafe. They have excellent Mecca coffee that's always on point and their Shakshuka is the best in Sydney, hands down. Where else gives you options to include crispy eggplant and melty haloumi, in addition to that bangin' rich sauce? The rest of their menu is a healthy representation of standard Israeli fare with an inventive and Sydney-esque spin. Avocado felafel? Yes please. And the people that bring you the belly-warming food also deserve mention, they are all lovely and make me feel welcome every time I arrive. Can't give this spot enough stars.
Great food with a distinct niche to the Mediterranean food theme they want to achieve. Don't know of coffee as have not tried. I would definitely recommend.

Mmmmm the delicious smell of this place wants you to order every dish on the menu! I recommend trying the shakshuka dish! This is a very cute cafe to take some friends for some brunching. ✌ @foodiesguidetosydney
Great food and great service in a cute and cosy environment. Love the haloumi shakshuka, especially on a cold night!! We always experience down to earth and exceptional service. Love the night time ambience.
Delicious Middle eastern flavours and very generous portions, shenkin is a great local cafe that serves great food in a really welcoming environment. The coffee is always great and so is the service!
Friendly and very fast service. We arrived 15 minutes before the kitchen closed but they happily served us. Coffee was creamy and smooth. Top quality. The food was delicious, will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. The portions were more than enough, they definitely don't hold back.
'When the sun goes down, so does the value' . This is why I have a brunch only mandate. With Perth running friend Suz in town and only free mid-week, I'm forced out of my comfort zone. Shenkin is a winning brunch joint. 9.5/10 score is almost uncontested. Dinner has just four choices with baked eggs a repeat offender. Being visit #4 in 6 months, I'm putting the owner's kids through high school.Char-grilled skewers do not appeal because across the road is a suspiciously dirty kebab store conceivably selling a greasier version for half the price. The other three are Eggplant, Salmon and Shakshuka.
I absolute adore this eatery. I have been to Shenkin twice, and I would happily camp there for the rest of my existence. The Angelita Special is to die for, and so is the Bite, Malawach and don't even get me started on the soy hot chocolate! The servings are very generous, and the dishes are well seasoned. But what I love most, is the warm ambience that is created by the exuberance and friendliness of the staff. Can't wait to go back :)
I really enjoyed my dining experience tonight. The food was spot on, but the reason I'm posting is because there was a little issue with one of our meals. The waiter was extremely warm and generous in fixing the problem - to me this is the sign of great customer service. Looking forward to many more scrumptious meals here!
The hubby said that it was just okay overall. Nothing that would blow anyone's mind away. I beg to differ! I like how the pastry gave and crumbled at the slightest bite, just like a croissant would, not to mention all the sides.
A recent decision to have a breakfast catch up had me googling for ideas and I don't know how but I came to be at Cafe Shenkin's website. After noticing they had 4 locations, I decided we should go for the Enmore location. I then realised it was the same one Helen of Grab Your Fork reviewed earlier in the year. As you can imagine, I re-read her post and other food bloggers posts to have an idea of the dishes they tried. For those of you unfamiliar with Cafe Shenkin, it is an Israeli cafe and all the food is reflective of the Israeli heritage. Having not been exposed to Israeli food before, I was fascinated at the similarities to other middle eastern food I have tried like Lebanese, and Turkish food. Admittedly I am not too familiar with Enmore, having not frequented here before. I realised how hard it was to find parking that allowed for more than an hour. Impossible! Aargh! Why is it so hard to get decent timeline parking at these inner west suburbs? :( Enough of the venting. Now to
Shenkin Kitchen opened on Enmore Road on the 15th April 2013 and its taken me approximately 3 months to get to this. Enmore has gained a fair few quality eateries in the last couple of months and this ones a real winner. The food is israeli and the overall flavours can be best described as lebanesey (this is what I’d call as best described if you have to place the flavours) and it is robust and delicious. It also helps that the Shenkin Kitchen looks and feels really quite fantastic. The café is light and airy. A look at the front room and the counter. A little beyond is the sweet eats chilled cabinet. Not quite sure what is going on with the stairs but it makes you look. Drinks menu. Price Guide Specials board. Its quite nice that its big and apparent and you can read it at a glance instead of being hidden away per some other venues Ordered a tea and cap with today. good. Waitress recommended of their menu, Can’t quite remember its name. This was a vegetarian dish with tomato and eggpl
It was very rich in tomato sauce, had fantastic spices and there was a lot of variety of ingredients in it. Accompanied with the huge pieces of bread, this is definitely worth the price (approx $19). I only wished I didn’t have to share some with Mr C!
Much like its sibling branches, a mix of Israeli/Middle Eastern food and Western fare including cakes and pastries make up their extensive menu. Service was friendly as expected and the atmosphere relaxed despite the small shop front was bustling with morning customers. The smell of freshly ground coffee fills the air - I can smell it from my seat...mmm...need coffee...One thing to note about Shenkin Kitchen is you need to be comfortable with sharing your personal space. For our group of 8, we were squashed up together and with the whole front section of the cafe filled with dine-in and takeaway customers, it does feel rather crammed. More seating can be found past the barista and through to the back courtyard.

Never had Israeli food? Then head to Shenkin Kitchen, the third Shenkin instalment by brothers Din and Bar Haikin, following the original Shenkin in Erskineville and Shenkin Cafe in Newtown. Shenkin is named after the street in Tel Aviv, Israel, a buzzing hotspot littered with boutique shops and cafes, an atmosphere not far removed from its location on Enmore Road. The story behind Shenkin is told beautifully on their website . Polish-born Tzvi Haikin was the only family member to survive the holocaust. He then endured a working camp in Siberia for two years before escaping to Persia. Serendipity led him to meet his future wife, the daughter of a baker, in Israel. Tzvi and Miriam opened their own bakery, where youngest son, Arie, worked from the age of 15. Arie emigrated to Australia aged 46, opening up the original Shenkin in October 2007. Today, the business has been taken over by Arie's sons Din and Bar. And if you needed any more proof that good food runs in their veins, their
Definitely will come back for more!. The place is pretty small, very stylish, but exudes warmth. My friend and I find a table comfortably just before lunch on a weekday. We struggle to choose from the all-day menu, but finally the shakshuka with eggplant and haloumi ($19) with an extra side of 2 falafel balls ($4), and the dip board ($17) are selected.
The shakshuka arrives hearty and warm. The poached eggs in the tomato capsicum sauce are deliciously gooey-centred, and the eggplant addition is not to be missed (although I did personally feel that the haloumi did not add much). The 2 little pitas which accompanied the dish were put to good use soaking up the liberal juices. The falafel were fantastic! The dips board came with 5 or 6 different Israeli-Lebanese dips (e.g. hummus, baba ganoush, labne), 2 falafel and 2 pitas. Of the two dishes, I preferred the shakshuka by far, although it was not a light dish.
Service was pleasant and we were not rushed at all which can be a problem at some trendy cafes. I can't wait to try some more of this establishment's dishes!
Lovely courtyard and friendly staff - the Israeli breakfast was delicious although i was flummoxed that no Palestinian breakfast was on the menu. In Enmore the two state solution is an article of faith and to reflect this i think the menu should perhaps have West Bank Waffles listed.
Delicious food, great service. I have come here a few times for coffee and breakfast, which have been delicious- I recommend the chai tea. I only recently tried dinner at Shenkin with my dad who ordered the chorizo Shakshuka, and I had a baked eggplant with felafels (vegetarian). Both of us were very impressed with our meals. He got the apple pie with ice cream for dessert and I had the pyramid- crème brulee in chocolate mousse. The desserts were both exceptionally well priced (about $6) and delicious. My dad ordered extra chocolate sauce with his dessert and was delighted to be given a little jug full of it! The two young waitresses that served us were wonderful and the atmosphere is cosy and warm. This is a gem on Enmore road and I look forward to going back here.
A Newtown Institution. This place does well in all locations (Erskineville, Newtown and Enmore). The coffee is great, service cool and friendly, good spot to sit down and people watch (if you're lucky). Food is always fresh and tasty. Highly recommended.
Was ok, middle eastern dishes
Filling and tasty. Went here last year in the early days of when they had opened. The breakfast menu is much expanded. Had the shakshouka - while this wasn't too different from other places and the bowl was big - really filling. I can certainly recommend the felafel as an add on - the were really crunchy and good.
Also tried the listed special being the oreo cookie and white chocolate ganache shake - really good and cold milk not room temperature rubbish like some places try and do. Service was efficient and friendly.
Excellent brunch option on Enmore rd.. Been here twice for brunch. The coffee I thought was good both times without being amazing. Muesli pancakes with strawberry yoghurt and fruit was a great sweet start the first time I went, and after trying some of my partners "The Bite" on the same visit I had to order that the next time I was there. Delicious crumbed avocado with mushrooms, poached egg, toast and aoili. I'll definitely need to venture more into the middle eastern side of their menu on future visits and perhaps try it for dinner one night. Both morning visits have been highly enjoyable though. Unfortunately their "Banana smoothie" was clearly a syrup/powder based drink either supplementing or possibly substituing real fruit (not sure why they don't just brand it as a "milkshake" instead?). That aside, I'd still very much recommend this for the food and coffee. Had no problems with service despite some other reviews suggesting they're inattentive. The girls we had both times were very accomodating.
This is what I thought Shenkin Espresso on King should have been. Dropped in for sat brunch/lunch. We had coffees and teas (both good) and ordered the israeli breakfast and this roti-esque dish (vegetarian) and they were both sensational. racheted up into a favourite with 1 meal. Imagine walking in and eating lunch and it being that good. Staff was friendly too! Can't recommend this enough.
New fave. Gorgeous coffee, they don't charge extra for GF, interesting flavours and ingredients but still has all the faves. Great value (large coffee and filling breakfast under $20). Fast service... can't really fault them!
Fantastic!. This is Enmore's one and only great cafe. Lovely, friendly staff and wonderful food. Enmore needs more cafes like this one! Very warm and welcoming, sunny courtyard, good vibes and relaxed atmosphere. Five stars!
Warm & Welcoming. Love this new restaurant, As soon as you walk through the door you are met by warm friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel very welcome. Can recommend the Mocha, it's just to die for. The huge array of cakes makes it extremely difficult to decide which one to choose, so we had two. Pretty sure I'm on a winner here. No doubt as to where we will be next weekend. Very impressed. Well done Shenkin.
