My partner and I had just finished a hike nearby and had skipped lunch so our appetites were voracious by this stage. We stumbled across this little gem, and we were very pleased we did.
The customer service was very friendly and food was brought surprisingly fast, although this did not hamper the quality of our meals. We both ordered the crispy skin chicken with tomato rice. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the rice was on point. Washed it down with coconut water which was equally as satisfying.
I'm pretty jealous of the locals having access to this place but I would definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Epping.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
+4
It was a cold day followed by a cold evening and we really craved something to warm the bones. Sir suggested laksa - although his enthusiasm highlighted that this was really more than a mere suggestion. It wasn’t a hard idea to sell though. We looked around online and settled on getting some take away. Once we got past the really really long name, Pho Sam Vietnamese Noodle House was the destination chosen. We ordered and headed off for a pretty quick pick up time frame. We decided on some lemon grass garlic chicken wings as a starter even though we knew laksa is generally very filling. They just sounded too good to resist and it turned out to be a good choice. They were very tasty!
Located a minute away from the station, you cannot miss the sign Pho Sam.
Great customer service, we ordered beforehand via phone to save time and the food was served quickly when we arrived.
Pho: 3.75/5
- Although the broth isn't as flavourful as I usually like, it is pretty good and worth a try!
My family have been going to this restaurant for the past 9 years, and can honestly say this place is a gem, always has been and still is. Staff are so lovely and the food is so good. This restaurant has become our go to for comfort food. There's really a great atmosphere when dining here, paired with the good food and amazing staff - gives us all the reason to continue coming back for more :)
They speak Mandarin and English. Dishes are delicious and the new renovation is spacious and clean. I recommend 3 combination with broken rice and crispy skin chicken with tomato rice! Need to get Xihuahua 🐶 to enjoy some 🇻🇳 dishes!
Pretty good Vietnamese food.
Pho is good, as is the vermicelli
The place is quite small so sometimes hard to get a table, as it can get quite popular
Opens at 11 which is good for us as we often have an early lunch. We had stewed beef curry, special combination noodle soup and some deep fried chicken wings. Wings were average and soup was decent. The highlight was definitely the curry - it had excellent flavour and the beef was incredibly tender. Would definitely go back for the curry - perhaps not for the other two dishes though. Service was good.
I have been going to Pho Sams for years and have tried many dishes. It is amazing! Super fast service, food is to die for (never had a bad dish), they are SO friendly! I reckon I’ve eaten there about 100 times and they have never made a mistake. The best go to Vietnamese food. The prices are always reasonable too!
Quite busy. The amount of a to-go box food is slightly smaller than the food onsite. Better to take foods at there but the vibe is quite busy and squashy. I prefer the quality and taste is over the shop at lane cove, but my partner prefers the one at lane cove. If you have a typical Asian taste bud -for instance, craving some thick broth or marinated sauce based on garlic and ginger- you would prefer the Epping one.
I’ve been coming to Pho Sam for years and it remains one of my go-to places for a local lunch.
Personal favourites are the crispy skin chicken with red rice, lemongrass pork vermicelli bowl and any of the laksas.
Serving sizes are very generous - most of the rice/fried noodle dishes are almost enough for two people! It’s a shame the prices have increased over the years, but at $12-$15 for a very filling and decent meal, it’s still reasonable.
I've had their Laksa, Vermicelli, Pho, Rice paper rolls and Fried Chicken. Very basic and has a lot in their share. Used to be quite cheap but have started to rise their prices.
Good place for a quick lunch. Their crisy skin chicken rice is great. One of the best in the area. Friendly staff, sometimes when the boss is around, you can find him for a chat. Up stair has a different set of menu suitable for a nice family dinner too =)!
A TOTAL MUST DO! 👏
Honestly the best feed, affordable soul food & the staff are surprisingly nice... 💕
Fantastic flavours & a pretty decent repertoire menu... 🍜
Yet to have better Vietnamese in Sydney. It's super quick, meals are massive and taste so good. Personal favourites are the vermicelli, Singapore noodles and the laksa
Ive been here thrice and I enjoyed the food each time. We ordered the chicken laksa, king prawns in satay sauce and crispy noodles the last time and they were all delicious. The quantity and quality both are excellent as compared to their prices. Would highly recommend and visit again!
The salt and pepper pork chop is my friend’s fav dish from this place. The pork is juicy with a crunchy coating filled with spice and zest. It just crumbles in your mouth then melts as you bite in. This was tasty but I’m quite lazy when it comes to eating, so don’t really like dishes where there are bones I have to be aware of, skins I have to peel, shells I have to crack open, etc. So the fact that there was a chance of biting into a bone in each of these pieces (which I did a couple of times), made me opt for the soft noodles in the other dish more.
Sauce was very tasty for the stir fried noodles with chicken and vegetables, and because I love noodles in general, this was a top dish. It didn’t overwhelm us with flavour, but slurping on the sauce with the fat soft noodles and the crunch of veggies really made us enjoy it. Although it didn’t look too big, both dishes were quite generous in size, and we found it difficult to finish them. Definitely a bargain, considering the size and all!
Cheap and cheerful, Pho Sam is a mix of vietnamese and chinese cuisine set near Epping station. I had an incredibly large serving of combination crispy noodles, so much that I saved a serve for lunch the next day. The noodles were not incredibly crispy but there was a generous amount of meat and vegetables. My friends pho broth was quite hearty as well and the beef slices were cooked just right with a little pink in the middle. This place is incredibly good value and its a great little local takeaway!
This place is reasonably good. However they thought i ordered a combination beef pho when i had ordered a raw beef pho.. Must have been a mis communication. Regardless the dish is nice and i enjoyed it. Needs to have chopped chilli provided like most other Vietnamese places do.
A favourite with the locals. It was packed for Saturday lunch, I was lucky to get a table straight away, but people behind me ended up queuing for some time. The service was chaotic, the staff were all busy and working really hard, but there didn't seem to have been any system or process, so ended up waiting a while to have my order taken, and then had multiple waiters come by. I got the combination beef pho, and it was a good one. The stock was flavoursome, a bit behind the Pho An, not as strong. However, they are quite generous with the meat, and had the full variety of beef in the combination: sliced raw, brisket, beef balls, tendons & tripe. Will come back another time when it's not as busy to try other offerings on the menu.
Pho Sam is a regular haunt for my friends and family - food has been relatively consistent for years and always the go-to place for decent local Vietnamese food. Portions are generally big (especially with their rice) so come with a big appetite.
I usually order their Vietnamese three-combination (pork chop, pork terrine, pork skin floss) with broken rice, one of their vermicelli salads, or their crispy chicken with tomato rice.
Got the fried rice and black bean beef combo. It was a LOT of food. Didn't end up finishing all the rice even though I was really hungry. The beef was boiling hot, couldn't really enjoy it which was a let down.
Favourite local Vietnamese! Food is very tasty and great value. I usually avoid going in on peak weekend times as I prefer not to wait outside. Most ordered dishes are Tomato Rice with either crispy skin chicken/lemongrass chicken/pork chops (with a fried egg on top hehe), the raw beef noodle soup (pho) and stir noodle dishes. All very tasty and very affordable!!
Reliable, good value Vietnamese food. Good for a quick meal. They also do decent Cantonese cuisine upstairs (the old "sumbo restaurant") for Chinese cooking and seafood. Eel is good. Shan dong chicken is also good.
This place is an odd Vietnamese restaurant because the cuisine seems a fusion of Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese.
However, all items we ordered were great.
This place has great service and is very busy.
They offer a elevator to the up stairs dining area for people in need.
This place is cheap and reliable. Lunch specials are only $9.50. They bought next door and the original shop is now closed for renovations. At lunch the place is packed with corporate workers and students. They close late and the customer service is very good. The food is decent with good portions. I highly recommend the fried chicken and dry noodle.
Simple Food. If you're really picky about your food and enjoy wallowing about wankily in your own pseudo-professional half-informed opinion... this is not the place for you. This place is a favourite student-eat for schools around, due to the healthy portion sizes, fast, hot food and the relatively cheap prices.
This isn't the best Pho joint out but it definitely isn't sub par. Of course you could go to Cabramatta and get a better Pho, but if you're a Hillbilly in a transport hole in the northwest of Sydney, there's not really a better choice than Sam's; every other Pho place out is some inferior heavily Westernised and overpriced pile of wet carbs that the owners have had the chutzpa to call "Fuh". I have not had anything cold or even lukewarm from Sam's any of the many times I've been there - always hot and fast.
The curry pork chop is hot and strong, the vermicelli noodle salad and pork chop is usually pretty spot on if you want a cooler meal, and the lemongrass pork chop or fried chicken with tomato rice is pretty much the calling card. The fried chicken lo mein is good, but a little bit Maggi sauced, and the regular old Pho really depends on the quality of the stock they're making from day to day. The stock is brewed in-house, so the quality can fluctuate from day to day.
Overall, a fast hot eat with an edge for being simple and easy food.
Crispy chicken or pork chop with tomato rice is yummy. Still one of our favourite place to have crispy chicken or pork chop tomato rice. Pho wise, they use a thin rice noodle which may not be the liking of others but we don't mind that. We didn't get as thirsty after having meals at Pho Sam compared to other Vietnamnese restaurants at Eastwood, Flemington or Bankstown, so I guess the chefs at Pho Sam didn't use as much MSG?? That's why we like going back to Pho Sam.
The best tomato rice i have ever tasted in Sydney!! Cheap food and value for money! Delicious pork chop too! Yumm!! Always order pork chop with tomato rice :)
Perfect no frills mid week dining. The Ba Wang Chicken and Nasi Goreng are the stand outs. Complimentary green tea and BYO with no corkage!
I quite enjoyed Pho Sam and I am planning to visit again. Although it was in no way five-star cooking, It was nonetheless cheap and filling. We enjoyed all of the food being served.
Had two meals here on a recent trip to Epping. The first was spring rolls which were fresh, crisp and delicious. The second lemongrass pork with vermicelli salad which was a beautiful combination of flavours. Friendly, fast service. This is authentic Vietnamese food at its best.
Quick service. Food is tasty but the serve seems small for the price paid.
At odd times there is clunky service, but otherwise a very nice place to hit up in the epping area where competition for food is low. Nonetheless decent food that hits a spot on the odd occasion. Would recommend as a convenient spot to eat. If this was an anime, its the equivalent of a reliable side character. Pog
