Review Ameer Tandoori Restaurant - Essendon

Very relaxing environment, maybe prices are a bit high compared to other places and will be prefect if reviewed. However, it is an experience to enjoy, the music, the friend staff tick the boxes. Will recommend the place and food is yum

We just had a lovely experience all round. The staff we so friendly, they had no problem providing vegan options and they made just about the best garlic naan I've ever had! Incredibly tasty curries. We'll definitely be going back.

The 17 years I've lived in Melbourne I've looked for a genuine classic Indian restaurant, lo and behold I've found it in my own back yard.

We visited 6 months ago and loved the food and amazing customer service 👍

I was a bit sceptical of this restaurant as the reviews do vary however we were pleasantly surprised! We ordered the banquet and it was amazing. Great Value for money. The staff were all so lovely and went out of their way to make it a great night for us. It was my husbands birthday and the owner even came out to wish him well. Will definitely be back!

What happens when pathetic food is served with terrible service in 1Hrs time, you run for your money. You guys ruined my experience of Malai Kofta forever. PLEASE DONT VISIT THIS PLACE.

Voted the "Best Restaurant in Melbourne" by Indian Executive Club Awards - 2013 This is by far the best Indian restaurant we have been in Melbourne. As soon as we enter the restaurant we see heaps of awards that this good team has won! Reading through this, we have a fair idea about what we can expect in this restaurant. The food was amazing and the little "in house" improvements and recipes are the best. We would definitely recommend the tandoori's ! They are made from a proper tandoor and are mouth watering. Try this with the cheese naan! Have a friendly chat with the staff and they will tell you the specialities that they have on the menu and specialities that they have off menu. The Service is really good and is good value for money. Surely wanting to dine here many more times and recommend this place for all Indian food lovers.

Ameers is our regular favourite Indian restaurant in Essendon. We eat here every time we come to Melbourne for the Australian Open. The food is full of flavour and has a great mix of spices. The quality is always consistently good. The service is attentive and enthusiastic. Love it.

The service is terrible so slow. We ordered the banquet and was a big mistake didn't even get the whole menu!!. The food tasted horrible. We have eaten better tasting Indian food here in Sunshine for one third of the price. Won't be going back.

Had my kid's first bday there yesterday. Excellent food. The management was extremely cooperative and helpful.

Absolute disaster!!!.!!1 Counter person tried to rip off. My bill was 72 dollars but the guy tried to charge me 101 dollars(through pay-pas). Initially,I thought it was just a genuine mistake but when I saw my first declined receipt ( from the transaction that i refused after noticing the wrong amount),I got shocked.I found in the receipt that the guy intensely added another 29 dollar by putting the amount as tip. It was just a shame.I was very frustrated about the incidents. In my life I would not go to this restaurant again. I would highly recommended you to check your bill and amount you are paying.

We have been massive fans of Ameer since we moved to Melbourne. It is difficult to find a hearty Indian food and a warm welcoming atmosphere. We are very picky eaters but everyone at Ameer is always ready to accomodate all your needs. Also they always give you extra poppadums! Big thumbs up!

Enjoy Ameer on a regular basis. The food is good, staff are friendly, decor (Christmas lights everywhere) could do with an update. Reliable quality and worth a visit.

Worst place, ridiculous food and very slow and bad service. I would not recommend it to enemy also. And the owner is also very moody and proudy. Except showing your awards improve your food quality and service. never ever go there.

We chose this restaurant for our take away based on its 3.6 rating and it being local. Thoroughly amazed and disappointed at the in inferior quality of both dishes. We ordered Madras chicken and it was average... a little on the tough side. The meat in Beef Korma was so tough we had to throw the food in the bin. Beware of this restaurant as we wasted our money. We will not be back..

North Indian cuisine that leaves your belly feeling merry, but make sure you order from the takeaway menu.

You're greeted with aromatic flavours when you walk through the door, deliciously pleasing for your nose, to a rather laid-back, clean environment with outdated and tacky décor. However, don't let that discourage you, we're here for the food after all.

We ordered from the takeaway menu which included the Sag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Korma and Chicken Biryani. Every dish was filled with amazing, rich and tasty flavours. Sag Paneer had huge pieces of cottage cheese submerged within the spinach. Both the chicken and lamb were cooked perfectly, tender and a joy to eat with their respective sauces where you could taste the freshly ground spices and herbs. The Chicken Biryani had a pleasant sweet taste mixed with a wonderful amount of spice with hidden pieces of tender chicken underneath the rice.

The garlic naan did a wonderful job of soaking the sauce with its fluffy goodness and texture.

We ordered the regular sized versions of these dishes and there was enough to feed us twice over ticking the cost-effective check box and raising my smile dial even further.

The service was friendly and prompt, the chefs dressed neatly focusing on their food preparations was nice to see.

However, eating in is a different experience. It's more expensive and surprisingly the taste and quality of the food isn't up to par compared to the takeaway option. Different chef? Huge dine in fee? Who knows, but dining in really hurts the experience.

If you're in the area looking for the Northern India food experience, it's hard to go pass Ameer Tandoori for takeaway, for dining in however, it's harder to recommend. Actually, I can't recommend dinning it at all. This probably explains why it's not busy inside.

With décor that needs work and a baffling dining in experience that's inconsistent and expensive, the real winner here is the takeaway menu.

New Best Indian Restaurant in the area. Have only been here once and can't wait to return the rogan josh was so delicious and spicy along with the raita was amazing and naan breads. The potato and pea bread was so tasty and with the lamb tandoori koftas and the minted yoghurt was great. Really good prices and the lady at the cashier is lovely! Can't wait to return.

Love this place! The restaurant is very small and intimate, great for a nice romantic dinner. Food is great, a bit pricey but definitely worth it!

Had a great disappointment with chicken biryani. It was one of the worst biryani I have ever had in Melbourne. It was like rice mixed with chicken curry and some packet biryani spices sprinkled on top of it. Will never visit again.

I've had alot of indian in the past, this wasn't even close to being on par with anything, i would highly recommend to go else where but here.

Great variety, quality and fresh. Amazing Indian food!! Highly recommend this restaurant!!!! Had beef Kashmiri with rice, pudina paratha and shared the tandoori platter-incredible food!!!

Best Indian in western suburbs! The staff are so incredibly lovely, friendly and always give the greatest service. Their food is delicious and priced so well. Definitely recommend.

Hopeless food and services. Quality of food was too poor. Worse was the services. Don't recommend anyone. Just wastage of time and money. Will never recommend anyone.
Shounak Gupte
good and delicious food. service is usually quick. dishes to try are tandoori chicken, sheek kebab, chicken biryani and most of their curries are good.

I've never dined in but I've been a regular orderer of take away for many years. We've always loved Ameer's Indian food, but unfortunately, over the last 6 months we've really seen the quality drop. Servings have become smaller and taste just isn't the same. I really hope they improve again because they really were a good restaurant, despite being on the expensive side.

AVOID THIS PLACE !!!!. Tried this place for the second time hoping this time would be better then the last but it was even worse! Ordered chicken vindaloo and chicken tikka masala both were the most stingiest servings when your paying $20 - $26 for them. They both came out stone cold and tasted like just tomato sauce. So over priced for the quality and quantity of food your given. Defiantly better Indian restaurants then this in essendon.

Hidden Essendon Gem. I've only ever eaten take away from here and I don't eat chicken so I can't comment on the tandoori side of things but this restaurant is amazing! Very generous sizes compared to other Indian restaurants. When I go in to pickup my meal the staff are always lovely and the setting is very warm and cosy.

Mixed Pakoras are always a hit, comfort food to the max but still very light.
Vegetable Korma is creamy, veges aren't the most amazing but I love a korma gravy
Mango Lasi's are done well and a side of tamarind chutney makes everything perfect

So tasty!. Tonight my fiancé and I dined in for the first time at Ameer's. The experience was great. Service was not only effient, but personable. The quality of the food was excellent. Now did I meantion the atmosphere? Wowee! Recommend for parties of 2 or 4.

Must come!. Food was fresh and delicious, excellent customer service with a very clean environment in a beautiful authentic Indian restaurant!
Trevor
Willing to forgive. Our recent orders of Rogan Josh & Chicken Sagwala were both watery, rather than the usual creamy sauce which they usually excel at. Our first disappointing meals in around 20 visits.

Good food. Good service. Loved the chef special's chicken massala. The owner is very friendly. Feels like dining in a lovely indian home.

Great Food and Great Service! This was our first time ordering from here, we got delivery and everything was fantastic! Looking forward to eating there again.

We dined on a Friday night at Ameers by recommendation. It was fully seated upstairs and downstairs. My husband and I were very happy with the customer service and delicious food.
PS: The butter chicken must not be missed! Very well done!
Georgia Rose
Never again. I came here tonight for dinner and it was by far the worst Indian food I have ever tasted. Also ridiculously overpriced, and I'm 90% sure the mint yoghurt sauce had green food dye in it. I had the butter chicken which came out (an hour after we ordered it, mind) in a tiny bowl (absolutely pathetic size for $15), and it was about 5 pieces of chicken in a red sauce that tasted like Italian pasta sauce with a tablespoon of sugar in it. The only things that actually tasted authentic were the Tandoori Chicken and the Samosas. Sorry guys, but the good reviews you got 14 years ago should not still be up in your restaurant.

Yummy but pricey. This restaurant has changed hands, and it is even better. Great service, yummy food, but compared to inner city Indian restaurants, the prices are a bit much. $20.50 for a butter chicken with 4 or so pieces of chicken is a bit much to ask. Next time we will order takeaway as the prices are way more reasonable.

Wonderful flavours. After reviewing a few Indian restaurants in the area, we decided upon Ameer's for takeaway dinner. We were overwhelmed with the size of the meals and the wonderful flavours. We ordered 4 large mains, 2 large rice dishes, 2 naan breads and 2 serves of Samosa's. Well, suffice to say we have enough left over for the next few days. Thus, top marks for flavours and value for money. We'll certainly be back for more.

The best take away. Very good Indian food! I always get take away from there! They are very quick and it is always delicious!

Best Indian around the Essendon area. It's consistently good food that doesn't leave you stinking of Indian herbs and spices. The food is cooked traditionally on the very clean kitchen and the naan is very good. This restaurant has nice decor and is warm and cosy, great for date nights, family dinners and social dining.
Don
Don. Not being a fan of Indian food I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the rogan josh, butter chicken and vegetable korma are. Garlic naan was also very good. Also happy with the service and don't have to wait long. Definitely worth a try even if your aren't a fan of Indian food.

Excellent food and service ,,coming from Glasgow where there are some of the best Indian restaurants in the UK,I have tried many in Melbourne but Ameer is the best I've been to,,i would recommend the Chicken Tandoori Masala but don't expect to eat it all as it's a huge serve,,the service and the atmosphere is always excellent.

Ameer has been under new management for a little while now and I've noticed a vast improvement :) great food n great service. You'll need to book in advance for Fri & Sat nights

Amazing dinner lovley people. We have been back a number of times over the years and have discovered there are new owners.
All the dishes were great especially the salad as a starter.
Great little local midweek BYO eatery for us bogans of Essendon.
Nice quiet locale!

Just average.. Ameer does brisk service in takeout dining due to the lack of competition in the neighbourhood. The food is quite average, so disappointing if you're looking for full robust flavours. It's good enough for the taste-free bogans who live in the area, so in that regard it's a perfect fit for its location. Avoid Ameer's fish curry - the fish was far from fresh when I ordered it. If you want delicious indian food, try Aangan in footscray.
