Review Krabi Thai Restaurant - Essendon

Isabella C
If I could give this a zero star, I would! Worst restaurant I've been to in a long time! I was excited to try this restaurant last week and ordered dinner at about 8pm, a veggie pad Thai. Was shocked when I got home to find old pieces of chicken in it. Even got my non vegetarian boyfriend to confirm it was chicken. Also broccoli that had been so badly microwaved, it had turned a radioactive yellow colour (see pics). Tried to call restaurant to get a refund, however, staff did not answer AT ALL... I tried 3 times and the next day. I'm still very angry and upset that this happened and I do not recommend anyone to eat at this restaurant given the shortcuts they are taking. Obviously, they gave me all the scraps leftover at the end of the night. I would never have written a review like this, but since there was no rectification for the horrible errors made, it seems only fitting. Disgusting, vile service and business. Avoid!!!

Food was good. They're very fast to bring it out. Value for money is sensational when you order either of the 2 banquet options.

The food here is so fresh and delicious. Customer service is great too, will definitely be back. Thanks for the yummy food. Satay sauce is one of the best I have ever had!

This place is far from serving Thai food. Tasteless to describe it in one word. Chicken chilli basil was basically vegetable with chicken in some tasteless sauce and the pad Thai wasn’t any better. It had a decent amount of prawns in it but lacked flavour. I won’t ever be back.

What a disappointment this meal was to my family. Tom yum soup, one dried out 31/40 prawn very poor flavour no coriander on top and looked like water from the Yarra. Now we go to the fried rice two pieces of carrot through the whole container asked for double chicken in it. I'd hate to see the chicken in it if you didn't order double, the Chicken was so overcooked and dried out we just put it in the bin. The spring rolls and vegetarian rolls where all pastry and no filling. The chicken skewers about an inch of chicken on 4 skewers so over cooked and dried out. They certainly won't be seeing my family and friends again. Very disappointing. $130.00 and ripped off.

First time I ordered takeaway the food was average. Thought we’d give it another try tonight. Wish we hadn’t. Not sure how it’s possible but the mince chicken salad was dry, although the flavours were ok. The stir fry chicken and noodle dish with vegetables was all noodles and the only vegetable in the dish was carrot. Bland. Fish cakes were average. Any suggestions for good Thai in the area?

For the first time I didn’t over order Thai! Yay! Stuck to the essentials - Tom yum, red duck curry and pad Thai plus my partner loves roti. The roti has been one of the best we’ve had in a while it’s quite flaky and very buttery. The curry is a bit runny compared to what I’d prefer but still tasty. There wasn’t much spice so we were offered chilli flakes which were very potent but did the trick. Added these to the Tom yum and curry. The pad Thai was really tasty and fragrant with perfectly cooked rice noodles!

Amazing Thai food, flavours are strong and delicious! Coconut rice is so yum! Service is good, staff are so friendly! I would recommend and am a repeated happy customer!

Decided to take the night off cooking and order some thai. Dissappointly food was not great. Moo Yang was tough and Seafood dish which is one of the priciest dishes on menu was horrible. Calamari was tough like rubber as was scallop, and the rest of the seafood wasn't much better. Will never order from here again.

Outstanding roti bread and satay sauce. I’m yet to find another thai restaurant that compares. My go to Thai place!

Lovely little thai eatery on the busy keilor road. We got take aways from this place and they were good, we had the stir fries and the fried rice and they were tasty. The staff were really friendly, would love to be back again to try the other dishes on the menu

I've eaten dog in Thai villages which were tastier than Krabi food was bland and tasteless also hindered by the Indian driver who arrived a year later pedalling from one side of india to melbourne next time I'll be going to McDonald's for a hotter juicier tastier meal, summing up my Thai dogs love the food because they have no taste woof woof woof

Normally I have great experiences with this place - delicious and cheap food. Last night, however, I found several long hairs in my food (they weren’t mine)...

Cute local restaurant. Basic but clean. Parking available right out front. The young male waiter was excellent. Corkage only $4 a bottle, but if you don't BYO they have a reasonably priced drinks list. Overall, food was good. A little westernised for me but probably one of the better Thai restaurants in the area. Reasonably priced to dine in and a couple of dollars cheaper per dish to take away.

Had dinner with a friend on a weeknight. Great customer service and atmosphere.
We ordered a chicken Massaman curry & prawn pad Thai (was a little on the sweet side) to share. We also had a sticky rice and ice-cream to share!

A small yet inviting place to dine at...the staff are friendly and above all one is promised an enjoyable meal which is worth every penny.Looking forward to making this a favourite!
First time in this place and the food is absolutely delicious! The real taste of Thailand! Staff was very very friendly as well and very welcome. Will be back soon.

Nice little place on Keilor Road with some great quality food.
The mixed platter to start with was the most delicious thing we ordered there along with the Thai beer named ‘Chang’.
The Thai Curry we ordered was served on a small lamp base to keep it warm while we ate. We had requested to make it extra spicy which helped balance the taste of the noodle we ordered, as the noodle was surprisingly sweet in taste.
We had also ordered the Roti bread, which is nothing different from an Indian Parantha, but served with a sweetish dip.
Would have probably given this place 3.5 had Zomato offered and this is specially because the owner asked for 50 cents for a takeaway container as we had ordered much more than we could eat. It was surely the only place I have eaten so far in Melbourne which did not provide a free takeaway container!
Else the quality of the food and very polite & friendly staff made our night..

Thai is never a wrong option for us, and today we were thankful to have stumbled across Krabi Thailand Restaurant. Located in the busy Keilor road with an abundance of restaurants to choose from, this restaurant exhudes a familial vibe with great portions, value and service.

No meal is complete without some coconut rice which was rich, flavourful and just the perfect balance of rice to coconut flavour. The grilled chicken with sweet chilli sauce was also quite good, serving size more than most and leaving us surprisingly fulland satisfied. The meat had a barbecue like taste and flavour whilst the chicken was tender and easy to eat.

A pleasant experience here and would definitely love to try out more options on their menu. Great price, great value!

Food: 3.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value: 4/5

Overall: 3.5/5

Doesn't look like much when you look in. But we heard great things so we had to try it for ourselves.

We had a large group with us for my missus birthday and the staff were happy to have all 16 of us there without any issues.

Service was pretty fast considering the numbers. Food tasted really good. However the one down side would be serving sizes. I know I eat a lot, but even for average people at our table, the servings could have been bigger.

But overall we had a great night and would recommend it to others.

A great little neighbourhood gem that does fabulous Thai fare. Good takeaway Thai is a rarity & this place ticks all the boxes. I liked the fact that the menu is small & they don't do an enormous amount of dishes which shows they focus on quality rather than quantity . This proved to be true - The veggies were fresh, perfectly cooked & well portioned & all the dishes were flavoursome. The Penang curry was divine & rich . Really looking forward to dining in next time.

Been coming here for the past 7-8 years and you can always expect very nicely cooked Thai food. Some dishes can be bland however you just need to remember not to order them the next time you go.

Fast, efficient and always friendly service completes the experience.
Their coconut rice in particular is probably the best i have had (maybe second only to Ezard)
Sally
I'm sure this is a one off as all the other reviews are good which is why I visited but unfortunately was a below average meal. The English wasn't great so got my drink wrong after repeating it several times so ignored that. Ordered the food and understandably Friday night it was about 35 mins however my meal came out about 5 mins + after the other meals which meant everyone else started eating. One of the meals requested to be mild and it had massive chunks of chilli in it, it also had to be sent back as the vegetable were raw and we couldn't even put a fork in it. Once the meal came back it was still raw. Told them at the end that we were not satisfied (we are not fussy eaters) and didn't seem concerned. would not go back.

Really good green curry delivered to your door!!! Coconut rice is a must. Highly recommended.
Delivery was a little slow but worth the wait and probably because the foods so good.

One of my fav Thai restaurants in Melbourne. Not fancy but food and staff are great and quite good on price $$$$
It's also byo wine which is always good and you will have no problem with parking. I would suggest the tom yum soup! It's Delish.
Didn't have the same experience for take away so would def dine in rather than take away. Felt the portion sizes were smaller and it was a little cold. But all in all I give Krabi 2 thumbs up!
Monica
We had a banquet when we ate there last night. The service was slow but it was mothers day and the place was full. The food was excellent and plenty of it. I couldn't eat all the courses.Great Thai restaurant!

This is a nice little quiet Thai place on Keilor Road that doesn't really stand out, but is definitely worth a try. We had a chicken and beef dish and some roti bread which had a spicy satay sauce that was amazing. I really liked this place and my wife made the call of this being the best thai place in the Essendon/moonee Ponds area
Normie
Really disappointed. Ordered a delivery. $65 paid $70 gave the driver a tip. Starters fine - veggie pad thai smelled off - smells mouldy. Didn't eat any more of and called them back. They said they would refund. Owner came and said she would take off the bill what we have eaten. I was stunned I just wanted a refund for my purchase.

Gobsmacked with their complete lack of concern
Dont go there

Nice thai food, but not my fave in the area. All of the standard thai dishes are flavourful but nothing phenominal. Green curry is a standout, but can occasionally be a little too watered down with coconut milk.

A friendly little restaurant with authentic Thai food. We often come here for dinner as food and service is consistently good. Staff are polite. Kob khun krap

Great Thai food. Best Massaman curry! Staff very friendly service exceptional. Have had many delicious meals and will be back for many more. Great take away service as well!

My fave Thai with the best roti, curries and service. Nice decor and gorgeous staff. I often have the red curry and my mouth waters at the thought of it.

Good food! Recommended! Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is nice. Parking is a bit tricky but can be found on the side streets. Service is good.

We have been to Krabi thai 3 or 4 times now in the last few months. Though we have Thai restaurants closer to home, we prefer driving up here as we love the food and hospitability.
Artermis337
Krabi Thai is an awesome place if you want to have a lovly dinner. The Chicken sticks are devine and the Roti bread is superb. I would totally recomend Krabi Thai.

Krabi Thai never lets us down. 👌
My favorite Tom yum soup in Melbourne. Always great service and friendly staff and a Great variety of dishes.

We love Krabi Thai. There are many in the area and this is as good as any. The massaman is unreal and I never leave hungry.
Prices are ok, ambience is nice and service is always with a smile.
Deepa Rekha
the service was very good ,mouth watering tasty food and a pleasant ambience, the rates were very nominal. Good food for the money , we loved the restaurant

Great food we had green curry chicken. Service a little casual. Restaurant was not busy. A little closer at the beginning but they soon fixed that.
Craig
We dine at Krabi Thai at least twice a month. Food always tastes amazing. Our kids absolutely love it too. When we go out the girls always want to go to Krabi Thai out of any restaurant. We have been dining at Krabi for over 5 years. And will continue to dine there.
Local thai that has always provided great service and delicious food. Great atmosphere for family dinner anytime of the week. Especially like the roti bread, satay chicken and pad thai.
Philippa Edwards
We enjoyed delicious larb gai, tom yum goong and pad see ew last night - much recommended. Only other things I'd love to see on their menu is larb moo (along with lettuce leaves) and papaya salad. Will certainly visit again.
Catherine Hogan
I love Krabi Thai. I love the curry puffs and the servers are all really nice. A great restaurant. Great food. Great location. Will definitely be here again.
Emilygook_2
Best thai food in Essendon! You have to try the pad krapow rice and the salad roti - best ever, you won't regret it. You're always guaranteed great food no matter what.
Antoinette Ritchie
This is the best local Thai in the area. We come back all the time for dine in/takeaway. We highly recommend the Pad Khing and coconut rice.
Niki
Came here tonight for the first time and loved it. We ordered the Banquet B and it was plentiful and absolutely delicious! Will definitely be going back, true little hidden gem!

Always amazing. This is our local Thai takeaway. The food is always delicious, and there is never any variation on our favourite dishes, it's always so good. They have a prompt delivery service too, and are always helpful and friendly. Love it.

Simply amazing!. Fantastic place! The food was absolutely delicious, best Thai food I have ever had. The banquet was a great option as we got to taste 10 different dishes, all very generous portions. I already can't wait to go back. The prices are very reasonable, the quality is fantastic and the staff are very friendly. Overall a big thumbs up from me. Whenever people ask if I know a good Thai place, this is where I'll send them.
Caitlin
I don't know what it was about this amazing night, if it was the fantastic company or the even more fantastic food, but tonight I had the best Massaman curry of my life. The mixture of the coconut rice and curry was delectable and did a little dance on my taste buds before before I swallowed and the process began again.
All I have to add to this review is bravo Krabi Thai, bravo!
Pooja Narang
Very good. Very nice, very filling, good serving size and great service :)
Amanda Dawn-unda
Worst pad Thai I've ever had. Tomato sauce in it? No veggies or tofu, just a bunch of vermicelli noodles.
Rmcavanagh
Food ok, Coffee terrible. Went there a few weeks back. Seven of us. Had the banquet. Food was passable. Had to ask the staff to clear the table, even though it was obvious we had finished. Then four of us ordered coffee. It was terrible, especially the two cappuccinos. If they are going to have coffee on the menu they should at least train the staff on how to use the machine.

Nothing too fancy, but what they do,they do well

An Authentic Experience. Most of us enjoy the odd Pad Thai every now and again, or some delicious fish cakes. But this restaurant is so much more than that.
An appetizing aroma of spices invigorate your senses as you walk through the door; garlic, ginger, coriander and plenty more.
I often find myself ordering the Larb Gai; a salad of minced chicken with such powerful and authentic Thai flavours that could only be described as a tangy, more-ish kick in the mouth. I could not recommend it enough.
My other favourite is the masaman curry with a side of coconut rice. Krabi Thai Restaurant definitely has the most flavoursome masaman I have ever had the pleasure of eating, and believe me when I say that I have tried A LOT of masaman curries.
If you want an authentic experience, I would recommend this establishment to you. I guarantee that you will leave with all your senses tingling in delight.

Satisfied. The food is great! The waitresses are friendly and ready to have a laugh. Great atmosphere, laid back and local. We'll definitely be back.

Dinner. Took the wife to this place so we could try something different. We found the service to be great, food was fantastic, for our first time there. We had banquet A and it was enough for the 2 of us. I highly recommend it to anyone who has never tried Thai food before.

I always enjoy a visit to Krabi Thai. I'm a regular there and the girls know me by name and my order by heart. Great food and a welcoming environment.

Not value for money. Ordered delivery and considered it rather expensive but decided it would be worth it considering it has a high score. However for what you pay, there is minimal meat and 'quality' vegetables vs fillers such as onion. The sauces were quite bland and even the satay - which was nice, but was rather watery. There are much better value for money Thai places around. It's not bad for too expensive for what you get.

Krabi Thai/ Crappy Service. Went to Krabi Thai for dinner last night. The young girl there told us that because they were quiet they were planning on closing early. She said the kitchen would be open for another 10 minutes and that we had to order our meals quickly. that was fine with us. The food was delicious and very tasty. Lots of flavour to them and the servings were a great size. I was not impressed that our cans of soft drink were given to us with a straw in them and no glasses were given to us to drink our beers from(clearly she couldn't be bothered going the extra step with her service because all she wanted to do was go home).I would go back again because the food was lovely, but they need to work on improving their services..

Food good but service not great. Wouldn't race back there.

Really nice.. Casual, relaxed dining and is family friendly restaurant with accommodating waitresses and a menu packed full of tasty thai dishes. byo is a bonus and one of the reasons why we go there regularly. meals cater for large parties and is a good place to hold a gathering as well.

Never disappoints. As regular customers of Krabi Thai I do have to say that I don’t believe that these reviews give the place enough credit. The food is lovely, just enough spice, but not too much. Best Thai in the area in my opinion. The waiting staff are friendly, know the menu well and are always very helpful.

I would just like to say that while dining at Krabi Thai, we had a very uncomfortable experience. Two very unprofessional, immature waitresses that clearly had no customer service skills were laughing at us the whole time, and staring at us while eating. Once finished our entree one waitress offered the other our left our spring roll. This was very disturbing. Due to this experience you have lost two customers. However apart from this experience the food was lovely, but the satay chicken could do with some more sauce.

Best thai? krabi thai!. Took Mum and Dad to Krabi Thai. Was lovely. Excellent service, not rushed, byo, cheap and lovely food. Decor is what I like- homely and local. I had ginger rockling fillets and too much red wine. We shared entre of roti and spring rolls- m and d said they were tasty and fresh with spicy dipping sauce (i was saving space for mains). nothing bad to say except that i wish they had whole grilled fish rather than just fillets. add this to the menu krabi!

Update 26/08/2017
I like this place. The serving was uneven and plates didnt come out together, but i suppose it is authentic in that respect. Great flavours and well priced. Friendly service. And full.
Lauren123
Never fails to satisfy. Best Pad Thai in Melbourne, highly recommended!
Maz
Skip it. Below average food. Chicken Pad Thai had very little nutritious content and was about 95% oily noodles. Main meals are small and disappointing. Home delivery was not available and had to pick up. Order was 20 min later than advised over the phone. Would not try again.
Jeff.g693
Good food. I found the food to be of excellent quality and very reasonably priced . The staff were very friendly and helpful when placing order. the salad roti was my favourite on the menu. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Ms Kathy. Thank you for all your comments. I am still run this restaurant. I think there might be some misunderstood. Any way, I will correct the weak points that you commented and strengthen our strong points to serve our valued customers better.

Our food are homemade and use all the best and fresh ingredients. We also cater for gluten free customers. We'll try our best to make customers more satisfy and happier.

Thanks again for your patronage. Kathy

Friendly service and delicious food. The roti with satay sauce is a favorite as is the amazing red duck curry teamed with coconut rice. Definitely recommend :)

Best Thai Takeaway in the Area. I think I've tried all the Essendon, Niddrie and Strathmore Thai takeaway and this one wins hands down - not cheap but good. I haven't eaten in yet

Very dissapointed! Bring back the old oweners!!! :(. I recently dined at Krabi thai, a much loved local of mine that i have been coming to for years! when i went in i realised that there seemed to be new owners, there was no longer the cute little fish patterned table cloths, the friendly little thai man, that would always seat you and serve you right away, and there was no music or smiles for that matter.
instead it was to Caucasian kids in their 20's at the front desk, that looked like they would rather bang their head against a wall than be there to serve us. they were slow unmannered and not to mention they didn't even know what we were talking about when we ordered some of the things we always get.
it took about 20 mins for just our entrées to come out and then another 30-40 mins before our mains were served.
our food did not taste the same as it used to! one of my favourite dishes the Beef Gra Pow, which is renowned for its amazing thai basil flavour; Didn't even have basil in it!! it was bland! and the meat tasted weird!
we found a hair in one of our meals which was enough for me to put my fork down and deem this place finished!
i am so sadden to see this place under such poor management!.. i feel as though they have taken this business away from the original owners and shat on everything that the old owners worked for! Bring back the little thai man and lady! im going to miss my krabi thai home deliveries form a little lady carrying my food in a cute little basket! so humble! and always so polite.
i hope they have made another thai restaurant somewhere else, and are doing well!
but as for krabi thai!..i would now like to see it put to rest.

Overrated, over priced and rude staff. As far as the food goes, its oily, below par and way too over priced for wha it is.

I only ever frequented as a last resort as I live locally, but from now on I will make the journy to Hot Chilli Thai or Khao San Road in Moonee Ponds.

I have never encountered staff that is this rude. I waited an hour for take away, found the order was wrong when I got it home then was told by a horrible manager that I needed to return the food for a refund and that mistakes happen when it's busy. THEN she hung up on me.

Worst Thai in the area. Don't bother - there are much better places out there.

AMAZING!!!!!! Had the banquette, amazing variety, amazing tastes, great menu and fantastic prices. Very impressed, will be returning!
JSNOOZ77
Our place to go for Thai. We keep coming back here simply because it is good. My wife always orders a red curry, coconut rice and a roti. I then order something different off the menu. It always makes me laugh when you see the size of the food that comes out and wonder how it will fill you up, but it does every time. At this place it does it deliciously. Highly recommended.

Had the spicy fried rice with chicken. Was pretty good. Didn't quite like the BBQ chicken though. Friendly service.

So yummy, get the banquet, so worth trying the variety of dishes

Interesting interior, quite colourful (most thai restaurants are), and they have the photo of King & Queen (of Thailand) on their wall. The 5 of us had the seafood banquet, which was a good value for money. All food are tasty, but the fish cake is too salty. The satay sauce was nice as well, but the chicken satay by itself was quite bland (that's why you need the sauce I guess). Other than that, the rest of the food was good, but curry was not spicy enough, eventhough they claim to be authentic. Funny thing is they keep running out of drinks and food an only told us later (not during ordering). We ordered their traditional thai ice coffee, only told later that they've run out of it (what the? Do they use sachets?). Then we switched to traditional thai ice milk tea, and then later was told they only have enough for 3 glasses. Whoever do their stocktake and ordering should be smacked :). It was afterall still early on a Saturday, and they open only for dinner, from 5pm. Past the drink hurdle, they have to switch our curry (part of the banquet) to a different type of curry, and from green curry to red curry. Oh well, overall experience is a bit of a hit and miss I guess. But I have to vote "I like it" because I did enjoy most of the food.

Krabi was one of the first in Keilor Road, and one of the best

A cute little suburban Thai restaurant with bright blue walls, Thai ornamentalia everywhere, colourful placemats and cheery, prompt service. You know it's authentic because they have the requisite pictures of the King on the wall (my personal fave, Rama V
