We loved it here! It’s easy to get to, as its very close to Essendon train station and with plenty of parking available.
Food was DIVINE. We loved the arancini and bruschetta for entrees, and the grilled calamari was cooked to perfection.
My main was the fish of the day, and was just delicious. Lots of flavours and the potato mash was to-die-for. The pumpkin gnocchi literally melted in your mouth. We had to take some of it home, as it was much too good to leave behind.
Staff are friendly and the food was served quickly and cooked to perfection. Big fan of the espresso martini’s here!

The staff attentiveness and friendliness were on point. I had a calamari salad and it was divine! My friends presto gnocchi and side salad were also fab. Highly recommend. Good atmosphere, great food and great service. What else does one need?
I always come here every Friday to enjoy the food and music. Especially the food I believe they do the best Italian around this area. I would highly recommended this place for anyone coming to Essendon
I found the Rubicon Bar on Instagram and decided to take a friend to tag along. The food was good, the only thing I found was a few of the dishes were a little repetitive for example we had Arancini balls for entree and they had this mustardy yellow sauce on it and I ordered Chicken for main and it had the same yellow sauce. My favourite part was dessert which was the 'Nutella Snake' Yum!.

Pub food done right! Really impressed with the presentation, cleanliness care and attention to detail with this venue would recommend to all to check it out if you’re searching for Italian, pub food in the area
To me, staff can make or break a restaurant, and at Rubicon the staff are so welcoming and attentive. For Entrees we had the calamari, a bruschetta focaccia, Nona’s arancini and crispy cheese. I can not fault them, honestly was tempted to order them for mains as well. For Mains we had four Woodfired pizzas- Marinara, capricciosa, prosciutto and ortolana. My favourite were the Marinara and Prosciutto both were flavoursome but not offensively strong. The food was beautiful, the staff were amazing and the place was modern, with a cozy feel.
Walk past this joint and thought we'll give it a try with no expectation but it was unexpectedly good compared to the rest of the italian restaurant.

Great place to go for a hearty and tasty bowl of pasta or a parma.
All elements on the plate are clearly prepared with quality in mind, e.g. salad with parma always has fresh leaves and doesn't look like it's been around for days.

Our group of 20 had a birthday celebration at Rubicon. The staff were very attentive & efficient, cutlery was replaced in between courses & when our meals were delivered the staff remembered which meal went where. The food was delicious & very satisfying. The owner came by to ask if we were happy with the evening, he even gifted the birthday girl with a bottle of wine. We bought in a birthday cake for dessert & there was no additional cake charge, & great coffee topped off our evening. Highly recommended!
Credit to the staff there today. We went there for an Easter Sunday lunch and the kitchen and wait staff coped well with a fully booked place.
The meal servings are quite generous and full of flavour. From the pizza, calamari and rib amazing ribs that just fell off the bone! it was all quite nice.
A call out to the young man with the mostache - it's good that you can have banter with the guests it's makes the day enjoyable
The pizza had a nice base and generous with the toppings. The calamari was tasty with equally good chips. A good place for simple but nice meals. I found the staff asked us a few too many times how our food was but they were friendly. The offer to take my leftovers home was good too.
Came here with friends on a Friday night. They couldn't find the booking but gave us a table and were very accommodating. Service was very quick. I had a gluten free base ortolana pizza which was nice. The staff are very friendly. A few more vegan options would be great.
It was the first time my family and I have attended this restaurant. A fantastic local restaurant with a great menu. Very well staffed who were friendly and attentive. Owner was very friendly personable and welcoming. Kids meals were generous and well priced. My husband had the Royal Burger which was very generous. I had the pasta marinara bianco which had a generous amount of fresh well cooked seafood through it. Drinks List was substantial and included a good variety of cocktails. Overall a great well priced night out at a great local venue. We will be back.

Visited with my girlfriend on a Friday night around 8pm, the place was busy but still a few empty tables around which was good and we could hear the bass from the club upstairs while we ate but it wasn't a problem. We just wanted a casual tasty Friday night meal. I ordered the Mexican chicken Parma and my partner ordered the jumbo prawns and we shared a side of calamari.
The food, calamari was great, very soft and not chewy like a lot of places. It definitely had quality to it. Although tasted slightly flourly, everything else about it was perfect. The Parma was good, not spectacular but still better than some I've had. It was actually really good with the sour cream and guac. The Hervey bay jumbo prawns my girlfriend had however were simply amazing! Full of flavour and had a perfect char. I actually wish I'd had gotten that instead but we left very satisfied.
The service of this place was 11/10. Really amazing service. Our server Leigh was from Texas, really friendly, funny, genuine and down for a chat. Always made sure everything was good and made us feel very welcome. Our water was never left empty too.
Wr dropped in to Rubicon very spare of the moment and were met at ths door by the very enthusiastic Dee. Once seated Dee really took care of every detail of dining experience to ensure we were comfortable. Its rare that I would ever ask the waiter or waitresses name but in this case and this lady, she ran that night and floor like a boss. The food itself was good. We opted for two seafood dishes the zuppa de pesce and the linguini pescatore. The meals were lovely however just that tiny bit small, definitley get an entree. The only complaints I really took away were that within the meals the scallops were sliced far too thing which is just a waste, you knew what it was however all that deliciousness of the scallop flavour was lost. The bread that came with our meal was damper. There are no two ways about it. It was too heavy for the meal and not suited to lop up the sauce left behind. Not sure if I would go back, maybe.
Had a wonderful meal tonight - the antipasto was huge (share x 2) and could only fit in a pasta to share. Staff were very attentive and delightful. Would highly recommend - you'll see us again very soon.

A short walk from Essendon station, this site has long been an Italian restaurant, but rebranded to Rubicon a year ago under the guidance of chef Michael Ibrahim and owner Teddy Hakim.
Rubicon Restaurant Bar is a great Italian restaurant with a touch of sophistication. Its a place where you can relax and order from an extensive menu for a delicious and satisfying meal that won’t break the bank. Service is attentive and friendly, with a real homey atmosphere. Would recommend trying out!

We decided to try Rubicon when searching for an Italian restaurant in the north. A great find! Friendly staff make it a welcoming place for a mix of patrons - families, social gatherings, date nights - all spotted at the time we went. We visited on a Saturday evening and it was full the entire time, without feeling too crowded.
The crumbed haloumi is a must have. I will be returning purely for another fix of this dish. It was so incredibly delicious. I was hoping for more from the woodfired pizzas. Perhaps it's personal preference, but I couldn't taste the sauce even when I was trying to taste for it. It just wasn't there, or brushed on ever so scarcely, resulting in a dry pizza that just tasted of cheese and dough. They definitely have the pizza bases perfected, though.
The (I assume) owner was very chirpy and made the effort to visit each table to chat and make sure that everyone was enjoying their experience, which was nice. It's been a while since I've been to a restaurant that serves complimentary shots of Port after the meal, so that was a pleasant surprise to end our night at Rubicon. Overall, a good quality Italian restaurant, serving up a great range of authentic Italian dishes as well as more modern ones. There is something for everyone! (You should get the crumbed haloumi, though 😉).
While the food at Rubicon isn’t strictly authentic Italian, nor do they pretend to be, we undoubtedly had an enjoyable experience. The portion sizes were more than generous and the Italian-inspired mains and desserts were definitely delicious and satisfying.
Great food, good friendly service. Definitely will return. Ordered a good range of foods for a birthday dinner and not disappointed. A good recommendation.
We had a great meal here, we especially loved the pork ribs! Great service too, we will definitely be coming here again. Very reasonably priced.

Suggested to my family we head out to Rubicon for dinner and they were very satisfied with my choice and I was too. On arriving, we were given a seat in no time and provided with our menus quickly. We decided to try an entrée and two mains. The entrée was a great starter, not too big and not too small. When we received our main meals, the presentation was 10/10 and so was the flavour. We were all very impressed with our meals. Great business!
Rubicon Bar Restaurant is a family favourite of ours! We love to go here with my brother and sister in law and their children who live close by! A great mix of people contribute to an outstanding atmosphere at Rubicon and it makes for a fun night out! The staff always have a smile on their face and are extremely friendly. They are always happy and open to suggesting new dishes to try as well as their personal favourites which is always welcome when dining with a group! The food is Italian and my "go to" order is definitely the Homemade Meatballs to start with. I love dipping the homemade bread (delicious!!) into the tomato broth! My favorite main is the Linguini Di Mare Bianco as I am a seafoods lover. The seafood is always of the highest quality and the pasta always cooked to perfection! Do yourself a favor and visit Rubicon Bar and Restaurant!
i live in Kensington and knowing Rubicon is just around the corner made me happy. I enjoyed the seafood I ordered particulary the Seafood Platter. i got everything i like like prawns , salmon, oysters etc perfectly cooked and served fresh. The venue is very homey and relax, nice ambiance and feeling comfortable. i had tried the steaks and they are excellently cooked too. definitely worth going back and try the other dishes on the menu. all the staff are smiling and can be approached easily.
Got invited today for lunch. ( we were the only guests). Restaurant is open from 5pm. The platters to share was great, love the calamari & arancini. We ordered pasta, grilled salmon, steaks and Zappa Di Pesce. Love the quinoa salad, usually don't like rocket, but this salad is just great!
The experience was beyond compare! We have been to Melbourne several times since 2010, and never have we been treated with such delightful food and service as at this wonderful establishment. A definite addition to the "must repeat" list for every visit to Melbourne.
The knowledgeable staff, and their attention to detail, will leave you awed. The surprises that are shared between courses are also a thoroughly welcome and enjoyable addition to the meal.
We left feeling special and well-cared for after a leisure evening meal. Amazing!
Wow!! First time eating here last night and we were blown away! Food was amazing and the service was exceptional! I had a strawberry daiquiri while I waited for my friends and it was on point! Also had the special death by chocolate dessert and it was to die for! Can't wait to come back again A++++++++
Thanks guys. You really surpassed our expectations. Our first time here and definitely won't be our last. Not only was the food spectacular but the service we received from your staff was truly exceptional. My only down point was having too many options on the menu. Everything sounded so delicious i had a hard time choosing so I had to dock half a point there.
Food here is delicious, a little pricey but don't mind when it's good. Ordered the 10 hour slow cooked lamb shanks, absolutely delicious but it was missing the promised caramelised onion and the baby carrots were substituted for julienned carrots. Someone else in our group ordered the ribs and i tried some and they were tender and falling off the bone like the ones you order in the USA. The service is friendly for such a busy place but I didn't like the cigarette smells coming in from the staff smoking out the back, it wasn't strong but enough to get my eyes watering and my nose running. Complimentary port at the end of the night was a nice touch.
Had a great experience here! Came here with a group of 27 people for a big lunch and the service was great, very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, we had several courses. The only thing that could be improved is the timing of food as many dishes came out at different times and half a table was finishing while the other half still hadnt got their food, but it was a very busy day so understandable.

Had dinner here with some friends we all thought our meals were ok average, I had the seafood risotto lots of good size prawns and seafood it was generous serving .The staff are very friendly and trying there best .The only funny thing was the waiter has never heard of a lemon.lime and bitter he had to ask at the bar if they knew what it was lol.Maybe some training on drinks for the waiter here .
Upon entering this establishment we were greeted with a smile and showed to our table. The staff were attentive and pleasant throughout our dining experience. The food is well presented and very generous in portion. We had no issues at all and the food was very tasty. The menu choices are plentiful to suit all tastes and requirements so much so that we are looking forward to returning to try something else on the menu. Thumbs up.
Tried the Pizza 🍕 - meat lovers : so good forgot to take photo. Traditional Italian pizza's with a thin base , I prefer as less filling with base and more taste with topping, big thumbs up 👍. Looking forward to coming back and dinning in the restaurant.

I had high hopes for rubicon. The ex owner of Frank's seafood has set this place up and it shows. The seafood platter is must try. Everything was on point. The seafood was fresh and the pasta was really nice. Great place and a nice addition to the good food options in the area.
