Review Coffee In Common - Essendon

Tim
Warm, welcoming, friendly place with top notch coffee and beautiful sweet treats. Didn’t try the food menu but the offerings looked good and plates presented very well. Also a good simple contemporary decor that really works.

Coffee was great, and both meals ordered were awesome too. A nice, surprisingly light brekkie. Wait staff pleasant and friendly, would recommend

Good coffee, more on the acidic side than smooth. Great atmosphere. Had some food here too. Very good quality but a tad on the expensive side.

Awesome coffee.. Awesome food.. Awesome people.. If you're in the area, or even if you're not, it's a terrific place for a bite or a caffeine hit! Do yourself a favour..

Tiny little cafe. Good service, coffee and breakfast. Happy to recommend.

My favourite coffee! The roast is delicious, and all barristers serve a consistent, high quality coffee. The food does take a little while to come out, however considering it is only a small place and the food is delicious regardless, it’s worth the wait. Highly recommend!

One of the best coffee shops in the area. Small, but has a nice relaxed ambiance. Coffee was their own mix roast, fresh and not too dark (I think Kenyan/Guatemalan when I had it).

Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Coffee: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Cleanliness (FOH): 4/5 My boyfriend had a job that required him to work in the area for a five-hour block so I drove him in and took the opportunity to settle in to an intensive study session. I started with a couple of coffees down the road at Captain Grey. The filter I had there was muddy and the service was poor. I left when asking for lunch options (vegan) and the chef didn’t even know whether items on the menu had animal products or not in them. Bad sign! So, luckily for me, Coffee In Common was just a two minute walk down the road! I walked in and was immediately greeted with a warm smile! The patrons already there seemed to have a rapport with the barista (Shaun) and he was incredibly facilitating with my “dietary requirements” of non-animal-derived foods. I ordered an Aeropress coffee and the Supergreen salad with mushrooms instead of the poached eggs. Man! What a treat! The presentation was great (which isn’t imperative) but it said to me that the chef cared about what he was doing! The coffee was good, the venue has a nice atmosphere and was nice and warm on the cold, windy day I visited. The two tables outside would be nice in the summer, I’m sure. All in all, I had to post a positive review for this place because it was honestly good! Enjoy, guys!

One of Essendon’s best coffee and food. Service is warm and genuine, the owner is behind the coffee machine. I’ve been coming every weekend for the last two years. Intimate and genuine, in a suburb teeming with big loud coffee venues. Love your work Coffee in Common.

We are so blessed to have Coffee In Common in Essendon. Such a Brunswick Street feel around the corner. Amazing food and coffee and the staff are beautiful.

My favourite local! Food is amazing and I leave with a smile every visit. I'm one of those annoying people with dietary requirements but it's never an issue for the staff, always happy to alter the menu for me without making me feel like it's a hassle. Everyone of my friends are equally impressed. I'm scared one day word will spread too far and it will become one of those waiting list breakfast type places hahaha!

Great coffee, food, people, but most of all, puns...

Chilled atmosphere, amazing food, top of the world standard coffee. Most importantly, have people I love. Couldn't ask for more. <3

Perfect for a rainy day, cozy little cafe! Had a latte and super green toaster. Delish!

The cafe is small but the food and coffee are delicious. Coupled with really friendly but not imposing service, Coffee in Common is one of my favourite places for breakfast and coffee.

Grabbed a few take away coffees from CIC as were were having lunch at the fish and chip place next door.

Service with a smile and reasonable coffee but I'm not sure I'm keen to go back, it wasn't outstanding.

This place is the sweetest. We go here several times a week. Coffee is on point and they have my FAVOURITE smashed Avo in Melbourne. Better than other crappy wanky place in Essendon

The cafe is rather out of the way from the other cafes in the bustling centre of Moonee Ponds, but I decided to come here while my car was getting serviced, because their menu had Matcha Pancakes. The menu was outdated though so I had a Matcha Latte instead. It tasted rather weak and not nice, but at least it wasn’t the Arkadia Matcha “Chai” Latte.

The matcha pancakes are insanely good!! I loved it so much, I just want to eat it all over again. They are quite filling and clearly the presentation is great. I also got the yellow smoothie which has banana, mango, coconut and there may have been something else but I can't remember what. It was a nice smoothie, I think it could have been a little bit thicker but it was tasty. The staff are friendly and for a Sunday morning, it was it didn't take long for my smoothie/food to come out. I was really impressed with pancakes and can't wait to go back.

Small yet friendly cafe near essendon train station and windy hill football club. Limited menu options make the choice easy, but the limited choices doesn't mean there is limited flavour. Soft sell crab burger and the matcha pancakes were surprisingly tasty and the berry smoothie was nice, albeit a little small.

As a side note the Council in this area needs to stop giving permits for places like this out if they do not want to provide suitable parking options. I literally drove around for 20 minutes only to park in the closest stop available 1.5km away.

Charming local spot! Perfect coffee.. smashed avo is one of, if not the best that I've ever had! Food can run a little slow due to being a small kitchen so grab a cosy spot and soak up the sun by the window and watch the real humans of napier st walk by.

Many cafés claim to serve specialty coffee, yet churn out mediocre, flavorless and disappointing beverages. Not the case here. Sean is a stickler for perfection and consistency and it's evidenced in every cup of coffee I've ever had from CiC. They use Candyman by Small Batch (of Auction Rooms fame) and it sings on the palate - notes of toffee, cocoa with a pleasant acidity. Their food is also amazing, quality ingredients beautifully presented. Sean also makes the best filter going around. I love supporting cafes owned and run by young people, and CiC is definitely one of note!

Great service, great coffee, smoothies and breakfasts and a really relaxed atmosphere, Coffee in Common is my go-to cafe in the Essendon area. The staff are super friendly and their food and coffee is always beautifully presented. The menu changes regularly, the only downside being that my favourite dish (a vegetarian breakfast burger that was to die for) got the boot on the current one. But the great vibes of this place make up for it!

Lovely space and decor for a small little niched cafe. Staff are friendly and attentive and willing to engage. Pat on back to 2 guys (staff) who helped a lost driver re-navigate her way. Just absolutely willing to go above and beyond. I've only had the coffee (perfectly made as asked) over a book/reading but no pressure to move on and very enjoyable space. Great. thumbs up.

Wholesome ingredients meshing with Mediterranean flavours and the outcome was inspiring. I savoured the pea, quinoa and halloumi fritter while my friend enjoyed his rosti with harissa. However we almost left after 45 minutes waiting for our food when there're only 8 other diners. Hats off to your chef but sorry the kitchen needs to turn over a bit faster.

Wowee, what an experience. What can I say...was greeted with a friendly smile and great approach. Kicked off my day with a quick coffee, which turned into 3...and a meal. Everything was superb, from the a-grade coffee, delicious food & amazing staff, this spot will definitely be no. 1 when I come to Melbourne.

Absolutely great cafe with wonderful produce & amazing sausages!!! Never had a bad breakfast here. One day that included a banana, peanut butter & bacon sandwich, unexpected food heaven.
The staff are wonderful too.

I visited these guys today and really enjoyed everything I had. The coffee is definitely a step up for the area and the food is outstanding!
I'll be making this spot a regular stop off for sure!
Thanks guys!

Went here this morning for brunch. The food was spot on, the coffee was excellent and the service was great. Will return again and again - new fave brunch spot.

Went here today for lunch, was just looking for something local. Delicious! Had the gnocchi with beetroot sauce and walnuts, yum yum yum! My friend had a bagel and was very happy too. Excellent service, we left feeling very satisfied and happy. Will definitely be coming back with friends!

The food was simply excellent with well thought out dishes with fresh ingredients. I wanted more despite feeling full. The coffee needs some work.

I called in the other day looking for Alice as I had a hankering for the 'Alice in Wonderland' (AIW), which in summary is Darryl's home made peanut butter on sourdough and caramelised banana drizzled with passionfruit, but alas Alice has now closed and Coffee in Common has risen from the ashes. I mentioned my desire for an AIW to the new friendly owner and he obliged me with their best effort to recreate it. Full marks for service indeed and it wasn't at all a bad attempt. The coffee is also quite memorable so it looks like CiC will be gracing Napier St for sometime to come :)
