Review Rooster Bar - Fairfield

Heard about the place on Reddit and gave it a try today. I ordered Half Chicken and chips and my thoughts on the same below:- 1. The chips were a mix bag of crispy and soggy although the Chicken Salt that they use seems better seems less salty. 2. As for the chicken it's really good and isn't dry or oily. I like a good seasoning and found it really good here.

The staff that served me was talking to someone while serving me. So i have to keep on repeating myself. Then i ws waiting for my order when everyone was already left i asked the her how long does it take and she made an excuse saying they are still doing it. Then the salad i ordered none left because they've forgotten tobdo my order. So i had to choosed a different salad. Then when i got home the chips are not in the bag. I tried to call but can't get through. Bad customer service.

So popular and I can see the attraction. Good value for money, nice chicken, kids really rate the chips. Salads and ok too. I just would like a bit of an update to the seating area to provide a bit of separation from the crowd waiting for their take away and the diners. Also their service can be variable. Last time I waited 5min for my meal ordered after the kids. Their meal I had to follow up twice.

Easily the best chicken and chips on this side of town. Great honest and fast service, high quality ingredients and friendly staff. Couldn't recommend highly enough!!

Great place, great and friendly staff and great food with lovely flavour, they have normal roasted chicken and also purtegesse style, both are very tastey and yummy! Great choice for family meals either dine in or takeaway!

I have been here so many times it’s ridiculous, the combo deals are insane value. Recommend eating at the shop when it’s hot. So good. Love rooster bar.

A fantastic charcoal chicken house in Northcote . I have been living in the area for some time now and I always come here. It’s relatively priced compared to the other charcoal chicken joints in the area. But what I can say in terms of Taste and price . It’s in my favourite:)

Great place for charcoal grilled chicken and fresh salads with a range of juices. The staff are very exceptional, always slaving over a hot rotisserie!

A favorite of the locals and I can understand why. Great tasty charcoal chicken and salads. Reasonably priced.  Service is fast and friendly.

Fresh and tasty. Our go to when craving take away without it making us feel sick. Large portions. Reasonably priced and the service is always great. It can get very busy so considering, our order is always taken with a smile and the wait isn’t too bad

Very sad that they don’t allow u to pay on card unless u spend $20. I’m in retail and have owned businesses and I know that this is BS. They can process the pmts but they just don’t want to! All their meals are about $10. She preferred to turn away a paying customer because of the method of pmt! To me that is the worst kind of Bad customer service there is! Even after I showed her that all I had was a card and had limited time for my break. So disappointed and I’ll never return again. My first bad experience was a few weeks ago when I simply asked for some sauce after my order and she was so rude saying I needed to pay 50cents even though the other times I’d been I was never charged for some sauce! It must have been a one off to have a positive experience which was my first experience here. Both of my bad experiences were with the same short stature blonde woman! How unprofessional and rude she is! Never coming back and will be telling all my workmates not to either! No one likes this type of service! <br/><br/><br/><br/>

Cannot go wrong here - unreal charcoal chicken and the salads top it off. Staff are super friendly with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Will be going back soon!

Best chicken burger! Although the place looks a bit old school and has an outdated decor, the chicken rocks!!! Best chicken burger hands down! It's so simple, there's no way to hide. The meat it cooked to perfection, juicy and with a lovely grilled taste. The bun is just soooo good and the mayo had a lemon hint to it which is just lovely! Love this place!

The young and lovely girl named Lucinda is a wonderful and well mannered girl,such a hard worker ! I would recommend she gets a promotion to manager or somewhere around that

Solid as a rock local institution. I've never ever had a bad meal here. Diet day today so I just grabbed a salad and a water. Superb Greek salad and a wonderful tabouleh. It was a terrific plate. The tabouleh was as good as the nearby A1 Bakery who really know that gear. Staff are lovely here too. The place probably needs a bit of a tart up but who cares. A mighty local joint.

You can count on always having fantastic chips here. Some of the best in Melbourne. Burgers and souvas are good and always good for quick takeaway. Eating in here you do feel like you want to glen 20 the place and wipe down the tables yourself- but hey it is what it is!

I love the chicken, scalloped potatoes and roast vegetables. It's not complete without the gravy. Everything is hot and delicious. It's an unassuming place and just serves good food. The staff have always been friendly, polite and helpful. No reason not to keep going back!

Rooster Bar reminds me of local take-away shops in my childhood years, growing up in the country.<br/><br/>The staff are very friendly (often offering free roast veggies, wings etc at closing), the prices are great (lots of meal deals) and the food is simple but delicious.<br/><br/>The highlight for me has to be the burgers and chips, 9 times out of 10 the chips are perfectly cooked golden brown and crispy with delicious chicken salt, and the burgers are generously portioned and always mouthwatering. <br/><br/>If you're in Fairfield after a delicious, filling,  simple feed that doesn't pretend to be anything else then Rooster bar is well worth a visit and will leave you full and satisfied.

Favourite place for chicken. The salad is great. The price is excellent. We easily get take away from here once a week at least. We've also started getting turkey and chickens for Christmas Day. There is no way we could cook anything as delicious and they've done all the work. So good!!! I would recommend this place to anyone.

This place was my go to lunch spot while i was living in the area.<br/><br/>Food is always fresh and tastes wonderful. Chips are always crunchy and chicken is high quality. Salads dont disapoint either.<br/><br/>Excellent friendly service even when they are very busy and obviously getting smashed.<br/><br/>Good prices on the combos and meals, excellent daily sepcials as well.

Friendly service, excellent value. My favourite is 1/4 chicken, chips and salad... The chips are always freshly fried, crisp and seasoned just right, there's a great range of salads (for a chicken shop) and they always give you the leg quarter :D

Um.... More like salad heaven! These guys have up to ten salad varieties at a time to complement you grilled or charcoal chicken. I'm a sucker for their Mac & Cheese pasta though. Can never finish my meals here as the servings are huge! I'm not complaining though :D #foodcoma

Good spot for a bite to eat, Really good range of salads, so much so I treated the chicken as a side. The chips were cooked golden with a great seasoning.Not much of an atmosphere and floor under our table was messy, Cash only as they have a machine in the wall that charges a withdrawal fee.

No doubt best charcoal chicken I've ever had! I've been coming to this place since I was 12yo and now I'm 27! Been taken over hands a few times but still the same qaulity chicken and impeccable customer service. They take pride in their work! Lots of delicious salads on hand all the time and the best thing are the chips. That salt they use is just amazing! A++ guys

Chicken is really well cooked, chips are the best in town and the sides are really nice. Have had the burgers as well, which were above average. One of the best places around for takeaway chicken.

Up until 6 months ago i would have said this place had the best chicken burger in Melbourne. Since then they have changed their rolls, which are still good but are a step down from their old ones. Having said that their chips are bloody awesome

I like this place, quality/price is amazing! Been here many times for hangover recovery and never left disappointed! On the other note smiling a bit more wouldn t be such a bad thing!

When in Fairfield... A cliché which has been prevalent in modern day society. When in Fairfield you are able to find one of the most historic and memorable Charcoal Chicken stores in Melbourne. Which has existed since the days of the Original Pokémon series, way before Carlton FC won it's last premiership and certainly long before Humphrey was axed from television and doesn't look like its about to depart from its universal location anytime soon. So what is this classical, ancient and original Charcoal Chicken store named:  "Rooster Bar". Very original and authentic to say the least. But how does the Rooster bar fare to other Charcoal Chicken stores around Melbourne? Well considering its long standing existence, they must be doing something right and certainly should have a leg up on the competition being present in the Charcoal Chicken industry for so long. So shall we begin where we should always? The Chicken. 3 words: Pungent, satisfying but dull. The chicken was satisfying and definitely above average but it wasn't the cream of the crop. It tasted a little bland overall but certain parts of the chicken were exceptional, especially considering their breast was pungent. Certain parts of the chicken such as the drumstick were very untasty and presented with a dull texture, the wing was characteristically dry and tasteless. The breast was definitely the most gratifying part of the chicken as it was succulent and zesty, come to the stuffing which was chunky and well formed but was very oily and finally the skin was overcooked and dry in some areas of the chicken. It was very uncharacteristic of a Charcoal Chicken store to have so many positives and negatives in one pot and it seems as if Rooster Bar were compensating in certain areas of their chicken but other areas such as the breast they got spot on. Completely horendous. Incredibly rude and hostile environment. ordered one serving of chips and they automatically doused it in chicken salt without so much as asking. when politely returning the bag to say that they didn't consult me whether or not i wanted my chips covered in MSG 621 they made another portion but half the size- after asking for plain salt, they added no salt.<br/><br/>another visit i decided to try again, i ordered the scalloped potatoes because i like potatoes and vegetarian things. it however was full of ham. nowhere on the sign did they mention it would have ham.<br/><br/>total philistines who clearly are largely responsible for the horrible treatment of farm animals.<br/><br/>the meat smoke also covers the entire corner and can be smelt from hundreds of meters away.<br/><br/>i wish they would close shop and move to somewhere else like North Reservoir or Upwey.<br/><br/>----<br/><br/>ALSO YOUR FAKE REVIEWS HAVE BEEN NOTED

GET EFTPOS MACHINES!!!. Whilst the food is nice, if you don't have cash, don't bother - this company has not yet arrived into the 21st century and added EFTPOS machines. I have a big family, so the order is always of $50. If you don't have the cash, you have to use the ATM machine next door that charges $2 per transaction.<br/>No chicken shop is worth that!!<br/>Does anyone else agree??

Iconic Fairfield. Hang overs, chips after school, birthday parties, Friday night staple....the Rooster bar ticks all the boxes. Best chips for miles and the chicken is moist and yummo.

I love the wide variety of salads you can choose from. WORST service ever.. The fake reviews on here praising the staff are a joke. We have been past here on more than one occasion during the day and the staff are consistently rude, roll their eyes if you ask for anything slightly edited (ie a chicken/chips/salad pack with more salad than chips), and barely speak to you. The food is ok-ish but no way is it worth suffering through the staff. We will not be returning.

Awful service. I have had to walk back in the heavy rain upon discovering they've given me a completely different order. I was reasonably upset at having to walk back in the rain but passed it off as an honest mistake. Then the following occasion, I ordered a greek salad. <br/><br/>Their greek salad consists of mostly tomatoes and every time my partner and I order a greek salad, we are served a container of mostly tomatoes and barely any other ingredients that a greek salad contains (olives, cucumbers, feta, etc). So I politely asked the same woman who got my order wrong the previous time to include more than just tomatoes in the greek salad and she started becoming argumentative with me, telling me that she can't help me and that she will only serve me whatever comes up in the ladle and that I had to be happy with whatever I got. <br/><br/>I went back in there to complain to the manager about this and I was met with a "What is it NOW?" from that same woman. I asked her co-worker if I could speak to the manager and the manager basically echoed what she had said to me earlier and went on about some drivel about how the customers have to be happy with whatever they are served and I quote "not try to change things". <br/><br/>Who knew that simply asking for a greek salad with ingredients other than just tomatoes would be so much of a hassle? <br/><br/>The food, greek salad aside, is mediocre but the staff and management have poor customer service skill and don't really understand how a good business works.

Always a joy to dine here. The chooks are so tasty & sides to go with it is always excellent especially their chips. No one does chips better than rooster bar. Service by the girls are tops, even the bosses there are cool. Very professional n always greeting customers with delight ! Keep it up mates, I am coming back for more. Cool bananas .....

Why cook it yourself?. Lovely flavoured chicken; have eaten burgers, kebabs and the original charcoaled chicken and all delicious and well priced.

I knew this would be good when I walked in and it was packed! Freshest salad I have ever seen in a take away...chips were great but the roast potatoes were soggy...great local take away.
