Review Two Fat Monks - Fairfield

Ryosuke Miwa
Loved the deco, open space and nice atmosphere. The staff here are friendly and service was swift. The corn fritter that I had was presented beautifully, and tasted fries and so delicious. The hint of spice made it even better! The latte tasted as if it has double ristretto in it. It was that flavoursome. Very nice cafe :)

Beautiful interior and lovely staff but the menu needs some work. Expensive for what it is. I ordered the softshell crab po boy which came in a pink bun, not much crab, no taste of coriander in the 'coriander salsa' and an overbearing coleslaw. It wasn't awful but it wasn't worth $19. Will give this place a few more chances because it really is a lovely looking place and my partner said the coffee was pretty good.

Nice coffee and cakes. A little on the pricey side.

A delicious breakfast in the morning light! Staff very efficient and friendly.

Beautiful interior, lovely and spacious. More expensive than your usual brunch location but considering the quantity and quality, it's totally justified - I am so full. Awesome menu with a great variety of sweet and savoury, multiple vegan options. It's licensed too! Would definitely return.

Great place. Fantastic service and atmosphere.

Nice interior and good service. Unfortunately, that is it. The burger was just average, and the chips were the worst that I remember eating in months (or even years). I told the waitress, and she transmitted the complaint to the chef. I hope they read and use all these clients' feedback for improvements.

Coffee was perfect! This place has a good variety of food and my Vietnamese salad was awesome! Staff were all lovely and had a great interior design as well as good atmosphere :)

What a yummy find through a voucher offer. Shared entrees of calamari (perfectly cooked), meat balls (yum) and croquettes (I don't usually enjoy them but these were lovely) was terrific. My ribs very soft and rich; my partner's fish and chips great and then we share two desserts. The flavour of the sticky date pudding was excellent but a little dry/overbaked?, but the coffee flavoured panacotta was spectacular. We wll definitely be back to work our way through the menu. And they roast their own coffee :)

Visited the Two Fat Monks on 3/3/18 for our anniversary, had been given a Good food gift card & was accepted at this place, also nice & close.
Amazing place in the Northern suburbs great food & service at a reasonable price.
I had the Gnocchi & my husband the Salmon that we throughly enjoyed, would definitely recommend this place.
Don’t have to go to the CBD for great food places, will definitely be back.

The Confit Pork Belly couldn’t be more any more perfectly executed. The thick cut protein was exceptionally fatty and tender, and very rich in flavour which the apple sauce naturally works to bring out. Paired with potato croquette cooked to a crispy outer, with mushy inner that also had a bit of chunky potato bits present. One of the best pork belly dishes I’ve had!

Delicious high quality food for an affordable price. With its super cool, modern, industrial style lay out, two fat monks is somewhere I will definitely be telling my friends about 😋👍🏽

The humble panna cotta is running rampant, featuring in brunch menus all over Melbourne, but Two Fat Monk's take manages to stand out from the crowd. The espresso flavour captured in the silky panna cotta (much jiggle) was sensationally aromatic and not overly sweet, pairing beautifully with the sweeter crunch from the granola. A great dish for the sweet tooths who enjoy a sweet option as their first meal of the day or for dessert after the savouries.

Braving the 42 degrees Melbourne weather we made our way to Two Fat Monks for a little brunch date. Two Fat Monks is conveniently located opposite Fairfield station with quite a few parking. As you enter the cafe, boy oh boy will you be greeted by friendly staff. We were shown to our table and boy were we hungry.

A Living Social coupon encouraged me to visit with my wife and two friends and I was pleasantly surprised by this one year old establishment. They are only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday and breakfast and lunch only other days.
The decor is modern and different with a very spacious feel and plenty of room between tables, which I like.
The service was very friendly and good and the choices were very clearly advised
The offering was a shared entree plate which had 3 choices followed by a choice of main meal followed by a shared desert of 2 choices. A choice of a glass of wine was included.
Both house reds were good as was the glass of sparkling and the food arrived quickly and was well presented. We enjoyed the food and the experience and will be back but more for breakfast or lunch
Far from your ordinary cafe, Two Fat Monks operates not only as a breakfast joint and a coffee roastery, but doubles as an all-day dining venue that manages to dish up some pretty impressive drinks and dishes alike.

Despite the vast menu options on offer, we found everything we sampled well-executed and undeniably scrumptious. The emphasis on showcasing fresh, wholesome ingredients and attention to detail is evident in every bite, and it’s no doubt we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Two Fat Monks.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Two Fat Monks is now a year old and has developed into one of Fairfield’s most popular eateries. It’s set within an expansive warehouse space, with various seating options arranged around the circular central bar. Despite its popularity, tables are not crammed in; it’s well-spaced, creating a sense of privacy for all diners.

From the outside, Two Fat Monks could be any café, in any nameless suburb in Melbourne. It does have some cool street art to draw your attention to it, but I definitely don’t think a drive past this place prepares you for the inside. Featuring its own coffee roaster and central bar, along with a funky wood inspired interior you feel as though you’ve just stepped into a fun beach side bar instead of a suburban cafe.

Came for brunch, coffee was great.

Food I had the pork belly which had good flavour and was nice and fresh.

Interior has been done nice and gives a great vibe.

Would recommend and will be back to try more of the tasty menu.

We went there for brunch. I ordered the Fat Monks pan fried gnocchi with goat cheese, tomato and Parmesan ($23.5). The gnocchi itself was done really well. Slightly crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. However,I didn't finish the meal because the food was way too salty. I'll have to ask them to hold off the salt next time. My ice coffee was quite nice. My dining companion ordered the Fat Monks breakfast ($22.5). The breakfast was big and salty. Notwithstanding the above, it is a nice cafe and I would go back again and ask them to go easy on the salt.
FOOD TRIP
Two Fat Monks is one of the most awesome looking cafes I’ve been to. The place itself is massive with lots of different seating options to suit groups of all sizes. There are regular tables surrounding the drinks station or there are really cool little cubby spots that fits bigger groups and gives them their own little dining section. The rope theme that goes through the café is also very unique but suits it perfectly.

We had a fantastic experience at Two fat Monks on Sunday! Came in for lunch where he mad the chef's selection platter including calamari, chicken wings and more. The mains were beef rib and open lamb souvlaki. Whilst thr lamb was tender (and enorrrrmous) with delicious pita and hummous, the beef rib took the prize for me, very soft eith a delicious sauce. For dessert we had a strawberry cheesecake each and shared a lemon cake which was also both delicious!
On top of that, the fresh juice was refreshing and yummy, and our waitress (lovely brazilian girl) was super nice and gave us great food recommendations! Will definitrly be back here.

Went for a birthday brekkie with the kids and it was mouth wateringly delicious! Coffee also excellent and super friendly service.
The kids had generous and sumptuous French toast with bacon sides and I had the mushroom Benedict.
We were stumped by the quantity and left super happy!

Breakfast to Dinner covered ....

Easily one of the largest and best venue in Fairfield with some enjoyable "progressive" dishes on the menu. JT-15/09/2017.

Two Fat Monks whom religiously aim to deliver fresh produce and quality roasted coffee in the Northern suburbs.

This cafe is open to all, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, even alcoholic beverages for those in need. Upon entry you can smell the beautiful aroma of nutty coffee and your eyes are met with a modern, spacious dining area with private booths as well as open tables that deliver fantastic lighting. The interior of this place is quite industrial/mid-century modern which I love love love!
The service provided was nothing really worth praising, waiters moved around like the place was on fire when there were very minimal customers at our time of arrival. I would suggest that they do slow down and take a breather, even converse with some of their customers.
The food however was amazing! One of the best corn fritters I’ve tried in what feels like a really long time. They were crispy and fresh and all the elements of the dish just worked so well together I can only imagine it being one of their hit dishes! My friend who ordered the French toast loved her dish, and was surprised she left her plate empty as she usually never finishes a sugary breakfast. The sauce was perfect and sweetness wasn’t overpowering.

This is a lovely local cafe and I would highly recommend it for both families and large groups as well as for small catch ups as the space definitely caters for all. Will definately be returning very soon to try their lunch menu.

Amazing food, beautiful smooth coffee. Staff are lovely, service is fast and atmosphere is very chilled. Lots of cozy private booths, or open tables in the centre of the cafe.

Beautiful interiors and delicious food! The staff didn't really go out of their way to chat, but they took our order and brought our food and that was fine with us. The meat was melt in your mouth good. Super convenient location right next to the train station too. Would return!
Zoe Garkinis
Nice venue, friend enjoyed her bruschetta and espresso martini a lot. My farm eggs dish was average - one of the poached eggs was solid, nothing worse. Iced mocha and vanilla slice wasn't great. Staff were not very friendly either so am a bit 50/50 on this place, maybe will give it another go before ruling it out.

I ordered the Braised lamb shoulder, it had been boiled and then placed under the grill for 2mins, when it came to my table the water was seeping out and filling the plate the fat was disgusting. The so called Greek salad was a joke, it was a small 2oz ramekin with 2 cherry tomatoes and a slice of cucumber cut into 4 with 1/2 teaspoon of so called cheese. The hummus might have been good if it was not swimming in the lamb fat and water. Extremely disappointed, will never visit again.

Love Two Fat Monks, the lady who looked after us was fantastic. As it was Father's Day it was completely booked out, I didn't have a booking but the staff their were very accomodating and found some room for us.. The coffee was delicious, I'm pretty sure it's roasted in house. I ordered the smashed avo with a side of mushrooms of course, the servings were a generous size and very filling.
Overall a great experience

Our 2nd visit and the food was once again beautifully presented, great taste combinations and flavours. The staff are very friendly and the service is good. Love the feel of the place. Great decor and the fact that is absorbs noise results in an amazingly quiet restaurant given the size and number of tables. Another aspect I loved was watching the people and trains go by in the evening. A very European feel.

Ingrid

Me and my partner went to this restaurant today with a voucher for a 3 course lunch with a wine or beer. Had no great expectations as we drove the 50 minutes from our home. Lo and behold to my great surprise we where met with a very pleasant décor, with very helpful and pleasant staff. We where then presented with possibly the best 3-course lunch that I can remember having anywhere. Entrees where superb (calamari/croquettes), followed by a beautiful main (risotto/chicken) this was finished off with a plentiful tasty shared dessert platter. The food was presented well and we where both left amply satisfied. Thank you very much for a lovely lunch and I would highly recommend Two Fat Monks to all. We will certainly be back often.

Really enjoyed our dinner there. The service was efficient and friendly. The pork belly was melt in the mouth and delicious. The decor was rustic and interesting.

Two Fat Monks is a stunning venue perfect for a light brunch to a decadent three course dinner with cocktails and everything in between!. A local escape from Melbourne's hustle and bustle, the eatery delivers an oasis of nourishing and delicious options. . The slick interior with splashes of timber against a light interior and expansive windows makes for a sunny and warm dining experience.

We came to Two Fat Monks on a cold rainy day for some cheering up with the assistance of a living social voucher which entitles us to entrees, mains, a share platter dessert and a bottle of vino for the amazingly low $69.

Built in an old factory/warehouse style building the restaurant has an impressive interior which screams modern but melds nicely with the industrial iron framed windows of this working building. The rounded ceiling installations provide a visual journey throughout the venue. There was something interesting to see from every direction... including the central bar, food cabinet with a range of cakes and muffins as well as a good collection of booze if that's your eye candy.

We were shown to our table and the menu was explained to us and our orders promptly taken. We ordered pulled beef tacos and a trio of hot cakes for entree, slow cooked lamb shoulder with hummus and flatbreads and 65 degree sous vide chicken for mains.

The tacos were a huge entree and simply delicious. Plenty of beef and guacamole to go with the corn and tomato salsa. I got to try one of the hotcakes with beetroot & feta which was a great flavour combo.

My lamb main was so tender and flavoursome. It was also an incredibly fatty piece of meat which I normally don't have a problem with but in this instance it was too much and I had to scape and remove a lot of it. Other than that it was an enjoyable dish. Kelisi's chicken main was so attractive with mushrooms, asparagus and a red pepper coulis. The chicken was tender and Kelisi felt the need to chew the bones where the flavour of herbs was more intent. She was a big fan.

Our dessert platter was ok but I had spent the afternoon staring at the cakes and slices so was a bit underwhelmed. It was presented well but we had mixed views on the components. The brownie was rich and I liked the flourless mandarin cake but wasn't a fan of the strawberry roll.

Given Two Fat Monks indicated it was a roasting house I assumed their coffee would be good so ordered a latte. It was a great coffee but i found out from our waiting staff member that it wasn't theirs. They have the bang wizz roasting machine but currently aren't producing... something for the future perhaps.

Overall a really enjoyable afternoon of dining away the winter blues. But for a few small details I was impressed with the overall meal & atmosphere. We noticed some of the all day breakfasts looked pretty impressive as well. Something to try on another visit perhaps.

Went to 2 fat monks to try the food as never been to this area before. We were surprised at the quality of their food and generous portions. Has Cafe atmosphere not fine dining but was great night.
We had variety of dishes from calamari ( fantastic ) slow cooked lamb (Perfect ) steak and chicken all dishes were top class. Service was great and the chef should be commended for his great food.
Thank you to the staff, we will be back.

Tried Two Fat Monks for lunch today... What a fantastic decor, nice ambiance service was was very at-tentative and the food was absolutely delicious. I noticed a Coffee roaster in the corner. It is definitely a venue we will return.

This place is probably one of the coolest places I've been in Melbourne! The decor is absolutely amazing! I've tried a few dishes on the menu by now and enjoyed it every time, but what stood out for me was the Farm Yard Eggs and the Beef Ragout 😍 Service is quick, friendly and efficient!
Erroll Quitoriano
Excellent atmosphere, food is generous and always so tasty, coffee and drinks top notch and the best part of all - the staff. Very friendly, the right amount of attentiveness and very accommodating. Have been here several times with a pram, toddlers, large groups and also for business meetings. Baby/pram friendly and they have a large bathroom with a proper changetable.

The layout is great... depending on my purpose I may use a booth, high bar table or the standard dining table. Power points / usb ports make it great for "digital nomads" and the decor is refreshingly different to the cookie-cutter cafe fit outs you see more often nowadays.

I'm working my way through the menu but can't seem to ever turn down a wagyu burger!

If you can only try one thing this winter - THE HOT CHOCOLATE!! It's not made with powder, it's made with actual chocolate chunks carefully blended with dark, milk, white, caramel varieties. I was lucky enough to have a 4-blend belgium hot chocolate... had to get two more take away!!

Big props to the team at Two Fat Monks.
This is my first ever Zomato review, I simply had to register and give my feedback! =)

Went back here recently with a voucher, glad I did. Worth a revisit...(the first couple of times, sadly disappointed)...but glad to say its changed!!...service on point, food tasty/fresh, good selections of menu items. Have been there now for breakfast and the lunch...happy to have a local venue thats performing well.

Took 3 friends along to lunch on Monday 31 July for a birthday celebration. A truly memorable afternoon. Food was sensational we all ordered different entrees, mains and shared dessert.

Stand out entree was the salt and pepper squid and pulled tacos as were the meatballs. Gnocchi for main was devine, slightly pan fried to give it a lovely crisp exterior and moist melt in you mouth interior. French pastries for dessert custard/vanilla slice was truly magnificent as was the roulade.

Presentation of all meals was attention to detail, great atmosphere cosy yet spacious booths and lots of natural light coming through the front window. Service by Penny and James was personable, friendly and above all genuinely welcoming to our small birthday occasion. Would take more people back and definitely explore as a function venue.

Thanks for an amazing lunch!
Carolyn

The BEST. We were greeted by James who really made us welcome, explained the menu and looked after us so well. Thank you. The food was out of this world, we had so much to eat and it was yummy. Thank you and this will be a definite return. Right by the station and also easy to park
Lunch was fantastic, the food, and the service were first class. I had the potato fritters as an entree, my husband had the meatballs. Mains was a pork dish, and a beautiful steak. Washed down with a lovely red wine, and coffee. Many thanks!

Just loved everything about the restaurant, food fantastic, my partner has already picked out what he wants to eat on our return. Will be recommending it to our family and friends.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome with attentive & on the ball staff. The food was fantastic, the wait staff were excellent & efficient.
Even though they were super busy & catering so well with all the large group booked tables & families with babies in prams - there was not a miss in their service or attention to detail. Water, wine, cutlery, & table service was just spot on & the presentation & delivery of the food was first class.
It's such a pity that there are so many cafes & eating places around that should try & match the first class food & service that is presented here!
Well done & we will certainly be back & so highly recommend Two Fat Monks to our family & friends - thanks for a lovely & pleasurable Sunday lunch!
@twogoodtoresist
We were invited to try out two fat monks new menu. For entree we had the truffled potato croquettes which were filled with mozzarella as well as the mashed potato with a side of truffled mayo which were like little pillows of heaven and just melted in our mouths!! We also had the spicy meatballs which were served with napoli and herbed yoghurt. The yoghurt perfectly balanced our the spice of the meatballs and the meat balls themselves were perfect in texture.
For main we had the braised lamb shoulder; 300g of tendered lamb slow cooked over 12 hours served with hummus, petit greek salad and grilled pita bread as well as ; the scotch fillet steak that was served with rosemary & sea salt chat potatoes, glazed dutch carrots and a creamy green peppercorn sauce. The description on the menu certainly wasn't lying about the lamb being tender- it was unbelievable ! We asked for the steak to be cooked medium and it came out very well done which was a shame but the meat itself was good quality and the sauce comes on the side so you can add how much you want without over powering the dish. Overall a great visit and what seems like a tasty new menu.

Go just for the layout and architectural details. I sat in a booth which was super cosy and nice on a cold winters day. I had the soup of the day which was celeriac (pictured). It was perfectly textured, not super smooth, but not chunky. Also had a yummy cheesecake, which are made on site.
Bianca H
Service was quick & friendly, croquettes & chicken skewers were delicious! The mayo with the croquettes was amazing. Only downside was the bread with the ruben sandwich was toasted but had gone soggy. The actual sandwich contents were great though!
Andrew Yaw
Brilliant food and ambiance. Love this place and their brekkies. Keep up the great work guys. Highly recommend this place for brekkie and more.
Melbourneboy
Very nice staff, good place to go for breakfast or lunch.

The only gripe is that they don't have copies of The Age around.

Sometimes something is missing from the order but we are never in such a rush that it matters.
Sam L
We had two staff serve us, and one of them was lovely and very friendly, but the other one was quite unfriendly, which ruined the atmosphere.

Only one option on the menu listed as 'VGO' (vegan option available) which was the smashed avocado - which had 2 eggs, feta and basil pesto removed in order for it to be vegan and nothing substituted. So the meal was avocado and a bit of tomato and lettuce on toast - which was nice, but to charge the full price of $18.50 when over half the ingredients of the dish were removed was super disappointing and I felt ripped off.

The others enjoyed their meals however. So, a nice atmosphere, some nice staff, and good place to eat if you are not vegan.
Morris
Great atmosphere, very clean and well presented in every aspect, Great seating choices, Open kitchen and bar area with great equipment. The meals were spot on and well priced.I had the BLEAT with chunky chips. all done beautifully. So were the other meals, one of the party struggled to finish a dish.
Siddharth Sood
Previous experiences have been okay but then went and not that busy but still lost our order and forgot about us, which is fairly impressive considering we were trying to keep two hungry toddlers occupied. Wont be in our rotation anymore.
Alicia
Came here for Mother's Day had 2 poached eggs ordered for our table, both came out completely cold. Re-ordered one of them which again came out cold. Not sure how you are poaching your eggs but maybe it needs to be changed. Other then that everything else was okay a part from the slow service (it took about an hour to get all our meals) but it was quite busy as it was Mother's day.
EagerToEat
I always come here and get the smashed avocado (made vegan 🌱) and it's the best smashed avo in Melbourne !!
Full of fresh flavours and lovely veggies, presentation is beautiful too
Prices are in my opinion slightly higher than most cafes but completely worth it
Restaurant also has funky vibes which is always a bonus ✨
Cheryl.cole345
I've been here 3 times now and the first time was a good experience, the second was ok and the third was again ok. The last time was just ok because when we were seated the waiter only gave us 1 menu and we were asked a multiple times what our order was pretty much as soon as we sat down...where was the fire? The food...I have had no problems at all. Big portions so go there hungry!
Stephanie Tsalikis
Unfortunately this place was one of the worst breakfasts I have ever had. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for food, bacon was raw, sent back and came back still uncooked, bread wasn't toasted at all. There was clearly chaos in the kitchen that day. Coffee was good but had to wait 40 mins for it, some staff were quite rude and in a panic. Place had a nice decor but didn't match the quality of food, would not come back here again.
Mads Stevens
$40 for eggs coffee and a juice, egg was forgotten and then cold when added. Not sure if it's breakfast lunch or dinner seems to be open sporadic. Shame as had high hopes, coffee is okay but not great.
Rhiannon Beck
Amazing looking cafe. Fit out is wood, white tiles and greenery. Striking round bar area. Coffee was not very warm. Staff were constantly asking us to order. We felt rushed. The three of us all ordered the same dish. It was beautifully presented but there was a noticeable difference in the serving sizes.
Two Sheds
Interesting place directly across from Fairfield station. It's a nice modern space and feels light, airy and spacious with some attractive fittings. I ordered the Middle Eastern Salad with slow cooked lamb. The serving was very large. Exceedingly generous actually with lots of nice well cooked lamb pieces. It was very good value I thought for the price. I found the flavor a little underpowered but not right through the dish. It just needed something to lift it a little to turn a good dish into a very good or great one. Some lemon juice perhaps. No matter. I enjoyed the meal. The service pleasant and efficient particularly from a young woman with a North American accent. There's certainly enough here to like and I'll definitely return at some future point.
Rlovefood
Coffee was good, service was fine, but we have been waiting nearly half an hour to have our food served while there were only few customers around, so that I missed my GP appointment. The poached egg is too rare, I didn't had it at all, hash brown is bland...not really enjoyed much..
CheeseAndCrackers
Great food but what stands out for me was their cold brew. Omg it was amazing!!! I am a cold brew fiend, and it can be soooooo hit and miss, but these guys knocked it out of the park. Great spot too, huge space and nice seating outside. Staff were friendly and nice. A repeat visit!
Geoff Prince
I live in Brisbane and my friends took me here for brunch in December. I loved it. The atmosphere of the cafe is A+. The staff friendly and polite. The quality of the food, drinks and staff were fantastic and added to the relaxed and trendy vibe. I was surprised at the Black Bun, only because I had never seen one before. It was fresh and the chips were traditional and moorish. The coffee was just how I like it. I am coming to Melbourne, again, in may and I have asked my friends to go back.
IloveMelbourne
I love the set out of this cafe. The booths are very inviting and it has a cosy feel about it. I tried their homemade turmeric latte with soy milk. It was a subtle flavour but tasty. The staff were friendly and served me as soon as I walked in.

Went back on Monday and had a soy latte. It was really good. Nice and smooth. It wasn't too strong which is how I like it.

Came here with friends last week. I had the corn fritters which were very tasty and filling. The other girls loved their food too. Will return.
Shoo Shoo
Came here for a second breakfast & decided to grab a coffee & something sweet. Maybe because it was after the morning rush, but the staff were super laid back & it took a while just to get a waiter to give us menus after they seated us. My friend said it was full when she walked passed in the morning, so it's clearly quite popular.

We ordered the French toast fingers in both flavors - chocolate ganache & vanilla bean custard. I had something a bit different in my head, so when they came out I was a bit underwhelmed. They looked amazing & they were still really tasty but I had envisaged the filling to be oozing out & to be quite decadent. Both fillings felt like watered down versions of what I had imagined. There was nothing actually bad about these, it's just my expectation got me excited. They also weren't very sweet at all, which again, isn't a bad thing just not what I expected. We still had no trouble finishing them off. Coffee was a thumbs up though.
Melissa Shaw
Have been a few times the food is fantastic, coffee is outstanding and hot, probably the best food and coffee I've had in a long time, the staff are friendly and helpful very knowledgeable about the menu

I have been going to Two Fat Monks from day 1 and all I can say it's going to strength to strength.

The vibe of the cafe is always welcoming and the staff are friendly and greet you with a smile, but the food is the winner for me.

I have tried the corn fritters at least 20 times and they get better each time. I have no idea how they can make corn taste so good!

Oh and the coffee is amazing - seriously one of the best in Melbourne.
Alison Wiltshire
This place is a really good brunch spot. The staff are really accommodating with changing the menu to fit dietary requirements and are really friendly. The food is amazing, my partner ordered two of the meals because he couldn't decide and loved them both, although our bill was quite a shock at the end 😂 We will definitely come back here!
Sangiv
If i could give a zero i would... coffee maker was completly rude and the coffee tasted like chemical wash, i will come back again and give another try soon
Saralicious
I heard the coffee was great and came to give it a go .. apart from the coffee taking too long.. and staff chatting amongst themselves..lipstick on my cup omg what else could go wrong.. i think the food was my only salvation. But it was the coffee i came for and i was let down completely... Yukkkkkk

Wow..we absolutely can't recommend this place enough!

Out of all the brunch places we eat out at, we would definitely have to say that this is one of our favourites. We came on a weekday and the atmosphere was so lovely here. Walking into the venue you can see the cute little herbs they use for their dishes growing and when your meals arrive to the table, you can honestly just smell the freshness of the produce.

If you have a look at the photos below, the food honestly tasted as good as it looks. Our favourite being the fritters but everything else was a very close second. So pleased with our visit and will definitely be back!

Join us for more food adventures at @melbfoodbaby on Instagram!

great food, great service and friendly staff...by far one of the best places we have been to for breakfast around Melbourne, recommended to anyone who is a breakfast or brunch enthusiast and looking for something great in a nice and friendly atmosphere.

So much love for this cafe! It was my first time visiting this area and TFM did not disappoint! Their interiors were minimal and yet, so appealing with their eye-catching coffee-making/bar area in the middle. The spacious cafe made it easy to get a table on a weekend in the morning. We sat in one of their booths which was nice & cosy as we had our own privacy.

The food was a huge hit too! Every dish had a little twist to it. I had the corn fritters - tex mex style which was good but not as filling as I thought. My friends each had the mushroom benedict and a big breakfast. We also shared their epic crispy french toast fingers, which was different in a way that the texture of the dish was almost similar to churros (Spanish doughnuts) but I liked it! Waitress who served our table greeted us with a warm welcome and was super friendly :) I was impressed by the food, decor and service at TFM! One of the best brunch places I've had in awhile.

Came here for a few drinks last week and the service was good, the beers were a bit pricey but were local craft beers so it was understandable. Had the eggplant chips and they were very average. Didnt seem to be seasoned at all apart from the parmeson that covered it. Also, $14 for about 8 chips wasn't great. Will come back to try a full meal but it wont be in a rush.

Fantastic large open space with great decor, The service was very attentive, food was full of flavour and coffee was nice and smooth , will be returning

It's easy to write 2 Fat Monks off as being a bit pretentious. Prices are high-ish and the menu complicates basic dishes, which is not appealing for a simple punter like me. However, all is forgiven. The coffee is as good as anywhere and the bircher muesli.... wow. Best ever. Perfect balance of oats/apple/nuts and added fruit. It's sweet, but never sickly and the serving size is very generous. Amazing presentation, too. Unhurried but competent service.

A good new addition to the local area , very spacious cafe well laid out. Menu has some very good options and the portion sizes are large. Directly opposite the station and close to the shopping precinct.....it should do well. Give it a try.

Love this place!! Great coffee, nice large open space with cool decor and the breakfast is like a work of art. My acai bowl looked too good to eat but I still did!! It was incredible!!!
Now I need to try the lunch menu!

TFM is proof that an awesome fit out is not the end of the story. For a coffee roaster, the coffee is just ok and certainly many better within a short stroll from here. The food has been hit and miss with the couple of times we have been here. The menu is interesting but they seem to have trouble with execution. Service is good.

Went for lunch today with my lady. She ordered the chicken and avocado salad, I ordered the Ruben sandwich, while we both had hot chocolates. The hot chocolate was on the darker, more bitter side, which is to my liking but not so much my partner. She reported loving the chicken and avo, while my sandwich was amongst the tastiest sandwiches I've ever eaten. The only thing preventing a 5 star score was the slightly slow, slightly disinterest service from the wait staff; still it was not poor enough to reduce the likelihood of future repeat visits.

Fairfield is chock full of aspirational people and so it's odd that there's a lack of great places to eat and drink after 5.

The community were therefore pretty excited when two fat Monks was being fitted out. It was looking like the perfect after work bar where you could meet up with a friend, neighbour or loved one after work for just one or two bevvies. Summer was kicking in. Imaginations were stimulated. So you can understand why our collective pallettes felt put out once we realised that it would only open after 4pm on Friday and Saturday! Doh! I'd invited two friends to meet there for drinks and nosh only to have to redirect to the Grandview up the road.

Finally,, last week I managed to meet up with a school mum friend and her two great kids and my kid and I sat in a sweet booth at the back. Enjoying fantastic chips, tapas and happy hour house white (darn good actually).

So why not let those big doors open after hours and call the spirit of Fairfield in to enjoy all you got to offer? It could really be so good. But is it too little too late? I hope not.

Very very tasty food... Service could not be friendlier.. Banana doughnuts were amazing.
Will be back for sure.. Delicious!
The pop corn pork was to die for.
Will definitely come back for more and more.

Went here for the first time last week and I must say I was impressed. Amazing atmosphere, the refurbishment of the building makes good use of the wide frontage and location to Fairfield train station. I love the style of the architecture, industrial but still clean and inviting. The food is amazing! Fun twists on the usual favourites, generous servings and a really good kids menu. My four-year-old ate every single bit of his cheeseburger and fries! I had the toasty from the specials menu and it was insane, served with home-made barbecue sauce, home-made chipotle mayonnaise, beautiful ingredients and attention to details like the black metal cutlery and lovely glassware all made for a really nice experience.

Decor was lovely. First time to try this new Cafe. It was disappointing. Food was a bit on the pricey side. The service was terrible. We sat waiting for an hour for our meal to arrive. I had 2 starving boys with me and this did not go down well. No staff ever came up and explained until I complained. Even just an extra cup of coffee on the house for making us wait so long would have smoothed it over. But not even a glance from floor staff. We weren't the only table either . There were many there looking frustrated. We won't be back

I live locally and thought to give this place a go. Walked into a spacious and nicely decorated space. The service was very slow we both opted for the PO BOY'S soft shell crab with fries. Which came on a colourful but stale bread, Chips were cold and not fresh and the soft Shell crab was not crunchy and at room temperature. We had to remind the waiter of our forgotten soft drinks. Then i went to the counter to order our coffees as we couldn't get a waiter's attention. Overall not impressed the look and feel of the place sadly don't match the poor quality food and service.

I really enjoyed our breakfast here! Decor looks great and the food was great - I had the smashed avocado and a berry smoothie and my partner had the 2 monks breakfast and a coffee. Everything was delicious and the serving sizes were huge. The menu is big and has a bit of everything - I'd really like to come back to try the burgers and tacos after seeing others eating around us! My only issues were the slow and non attentive customer service (had to wave ppl down to seat us and take our order) and the overpriced menu - $60 for two for breakfast is absurd! I'd rather smaller servings and standard prices thanks!

Breakfast was average and overpriced, service was sub-par, expected great things from this place sadly it didnt deliver, maybe we came on a bad day, but they seemed under staffed and messed up our order.

Was shown a table, wasn't offered menus or a coffee to start. Waited and still no one brought us a menu or asked us for coffee\drinks. Eventually walked out and went around the corner.

I have been with family for breakfast a couple of times. This time I ate the spicy scrambled with onion jam and chorizo, it was amazing. Mmmmmm. Will be coming back.

My partner and I went into two fat monks the other day, it was busy but service was prompt and very friendly. The interior is amazing and the energy is really nice. We ordered the vegan porridge and the Mexican street corn but my partner changed the bacon to hallumi to make it vegetarian which they happily accommodated for. The food came out surprisingly quickly. The vegan porridge was delicious and easily worth more than $17 especially with the coyo, and my partner said he wished Mexican street corn was that good in Mexico!! I was apprehensive because of some other reviews (??) but had a great experience. All round a really nice place with great food and really friendly service!

My partner and i were visiting some friends in Melbourne and they recommended this place for us. We were visiting from England, so we were really looking forward to the Australian food scene.
This place did not disappoint! My partner had the fish tacos which he absolutely loved.
My favourite was my dessert, the wagon wheel.
Not only was the food amazing, but the service was as well. Greeted straight away! They were very lovely and very attentive at our table.
If I'm ever back in Melbourne I will be sure to come back. .. next time I will try their bubble and squeak.

Great food, great coffee, great staff.....A trendy and awesome looking addition to the Fairfield food culture. The area really needed a place like this. Well done!!!!

Have heard about this place and wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately I only had time to grab a quick coffee which was delish! I also really loved how happy and smiley the staff were! Clearly love their jobs :-)
Daisy
Great space, love what they have done with the building and the decorations. Friendly staff and they know their menu.

Had the burger, love an ash bun, the chipotle mayo, beetroot and egg are a great combo.

Partner had the soft shell crab Po boy, will probably get that next time, although looking at a few of the other options coming out I might have to go back a few times!!!
Tash Mestrovic
Great coffee and fit out, done the building and the area a lot of favours. Generous serves, Big Breakie with beans I would certainly head back for, especially after a big night! Soft shell crab po boy was pretty delicious, good balance of flavours and textures. Don't even get me started on the pastry cabinet = DREAM.

Great food, friendly staff dying to go again I want to try the fritters, I had the avocado smash with mushrooms. I'm pretty fussy with my coffee but they listened and got it just right thanks guys.

We had such an amazing breakie at Two Fat Monks. The service was prompt and friendly, our breakfast was made with love and our coffee was just as we ordered it. Thank you for such an amazing experience Two Fat Monks we look forward to having lunch there on our next visit with more friends this time round.

Love this new spot in Fairfield. Our food was great and love the variety of choice. Can't wait to be back and try more things... all the food going out to other tables looked delicious. Generous portions, great service and nice atmosphere.

Trendy exterior entices you in - however our experience was very poor. We were so disappointed we had to leave a review in the hope they can take the feedback on board.

Coffee good - food came out after 20 mins not very busy - my husband was just about to have a mouthful when he looked down at his garnish on his poached eggs, and there was a spider around the size of the 20 cent piece!! We couldn't believe the kitchen & waiter would miss this creature crawling on the plate! I waved the waitress over and she took it back and apologised and got the kitchen to remake straight away - all good points. We didn't make a big deal about it as we didn't want other patrons to see what had happened out of respect to the place. What left us even more disappointed was how they treated us afterwards.

The head waiter brought over my husbands re-made food without an apology, placed it to him and asked if we wanted anything else. Then we had no one came back to our table to check on us throughout the whole service. My food (smashed Avo) was very bland and husbands food was also mediocre - he had poached eggs with mushrooms - the mushrooms where soaked in this vinegar and all he could taste was vinegar, so hardly ate his meal. We felt they avoided us, and there were probably 6 tables in the place so there was no excuse.

We got up to pay and the head waiter met us at the till. No "how was everything" or "I'm really sorry about before" just silence while he added up the bill. "That comes to $53.00 thanks"... then my husband brought up our incident and how his food was disappointing. The waiters response was "oh yeah I heard about that - sorry I'll take it off the bill." It was like he avoided to bring it up so he could get away with charging us over $50 for a rubbish experience!

Regardless of the spider incident the food was bland and I wouldn't go back. The owners should go to Archie's all day in Gertrude street Fitzroy and see what the standard should be for an amazing Melbourne breakfast and make some big changes - especially the service - get new staff that actually care about their customers!

Ate at Two Fat Monks, after finally make the trip up from south side. And I tell you it was worth the travel. I had the Cuban sandwich with house made chips. Living in melbourne for the last 10 years, I've had my fair share of cuban sandwiches... but this is most certainly a deal maker. By far the best! And will return just for it! My partner opted for the BLAT on pumpkin bread and was far from disappointed.
In all, one of the best cafes produced in the last 2 years and certainly leading the way for Northside brunching! Will return!!!
