The new owners are back at Franks Cakes so thought we’d try them out. Had brunch, ordered Big breakfast and a vegetarian breakfast, coffees and took home sausage roll, biscuits and some cakes. Breakfast was delicious, portion sizes were decent and everything was high quality and well cooked and flavoursome such as mushrooms, roasted tomatoes & spinach. The rosti also was homemade not your standard packet hash brown. The meat breakfast was also very good! Coffee was average but cakes were nice. A bit on the pricey side but they say their food is cooked from scratch. Nice enough casual atmosphere inside and plenty of undercover outdoor seating space. Would come back.
Lovely place for brunch, cakes and coffee. Made fresh breakfast N won't break the bank. Ample parking. Had to take away the cakes, too tempting. The pistachio roulade was nice.
The deserts are sooo addictive, custard donuts, cakes, cannolis are yum. However the service is not efficient and slow which can be improved.

Delicious gnocchi just like Nonna makes. Gnocchi soft and pillowy and the sauce was so good. Cannoli was excellent too. Crisp outer shell and tasty filling. Good value for money too.
I really enjoy this place for breaky! Has been after taking pooch to the dog park across the rd! And she gets to come and sit with us at Franks! Have ordered a few dishes. Either the Veggie Breakfast or just scrambled eggs with bacon. Bf gets the eggs Benedict or eggs and smokes salmon. All really really tasty. Coffee is really nice too. A nice local !
Great cafe with lots of cute sweet options.... Good homestyle food. Also great place to order cakes for celebrations etc. Prompt service, never have to wait long. Staff don't say more than they have to.
This is a favourite! Friendly staff, good service, delish meals at a reasonable price as well as the most amazing cakes and coffee.

Franks cakes started with a Big Bang several years ago , bringing with it a bit of inner city foodie culture and sophistication to the outer burns . Under the guidance of Frank , who used to be one of Brunetti's head pastry chefs, you could taste the ambiance of inner city Chic, and quality products from the bake room ! service was great and it was a well run family business, sadly since Frank and his family have leased out the business , it has gone down hill. Not so much with the food menu, which is varied and not at all unlike many of those of inner suburban cafes, and Frank still bakes the cakes albeit from an industrial kitchen located not that far away, but the inflexible and often authoritarian like attitudes from the staff and chef... There is no flexibilty to order a half serve of eggs , not everyone wants the big breakfast at $20 plus with all the trimmings, some of us just want a simple poached egg on toast, which I asked for last weekend and was promptly told , yes you can have that but it'll still be $18 !! WTF , Also you can't say leave the fries off the side ,no dressing , or any other small Menu change seems to be beyond their capabilities. It needs approval of the chef who more than often says no.
As a dragged along regular by a loved one who likes eating there regardless of cost or service ( convenience being their schtick) I really resented this as they know we're regulars who always spend money several times a week . I will have to seriously think about going back after this ..The cakes are to die for and are more than equal to anything you'll find in an Acland street bakery or Carlton's iconic Brunetti's . Coffee is great and made like only Italians can ..will I go back ? I have no choice as it's my mums favourite place for coffee, will I eat there , I'd have to think about it ..
Customer service was amazing! The big breakfast was amazing for the price! My partner is extremely picky with food but he highly recommends the chicken Parma as he said it was one the best he's had! Thank you ❤️we will be coming back!

I didn't go inside to eat but instead got takeaway cakes. I got the red velvet and Mars cakes which were absolutely amazing! Great texture and flavour and definitely recommended!
Take away breakfast wrap was amazing; no pre made toasted sandwhich here! The wrap was crunchy and the bacon, egg and tomato cooked perfectly. The coffee was strong, smooth and delicious. Yum!
I go out of my way to visit Frank's. The coffee is consistently amazing and when i arrive home with a box of vanilla slices you better be quick. Its defiantly my favourite desert there and I'd dare say would be up there among the greats. We also stopped for lunch one afternoon and the pasta was breath taking.
Haven't had breakfast or lunch here but I would prefer to have sweets here anyway. Cannoli are excellent, the Italian doughnuts stuffed with custard and a special mention to the Nutella cheesecake. Great place to stop and get a small selection of cakes if you're visiting someone or having people over. Also have preordered birthday cake from there and was really good.
Excellent, friendly and professional service. Good recommendations from waitress. Great coffee! Cakes were fresh and delicious. Can't wait to come back to try the meals as they smelt divine. There was a great variety to choose from and the everything we ordered came quickly. The place was buzzing with atmosphere and warmth, perfect for a freezing Sunday.

One of our favorite place near home . Friendly waitress, good coffee , reasonable price .they have awesome risotto & pasta . Sweets was a bit too sweet for me . But I still love them . There's a lot of variety of sweets you can choose .
Probably the best canoli I have ever had!!! Just amazing. Crunchy. Creamy on the inside. Tasty. I cannot wait to come back. Soy Chai was also done to perfection! Definitely worth the drive. They have a wide selection of sweets. Can't wait to try different ones!
White choc mud cake, pistachio roulade, White choc raspberry, 'peaches', cream doughnut.
Upon first taking a bite of the slice of cake I was taken in, it's so thick and strong. By the time I had swallowed it I was feeling sick from how very rich it is.
The cream doughnut is 5/5. Just the light dusting of sugar on the exterior, and the freshness of the cream. It's heaven.
I cbf going into the descriptions of the other bits- they were all nice enough.
Franks Cakes have been able to turn around what was a dead spot for all prior businesses- which is a testament to their product and staying power. Kudos
I must say they do a decent breakfast, good flavours and it's not going to hurt your pocket. My partner and I got their fresh juice which I highly recommend best I've had in a while I must admit and their cake fridge and all the different desserts look Devine. Unfortunately their good food and delicious looking cakes are not backed up by the staff, terrible service from a older blonde woman who needs to take a happy pill before coming to work or maybe get a desk job where you can hide how miserable you are. Real shame you have a staff member like this or maybe customer service really is dead.
Great cakes and other pastry goodness. Have been here for dine in and have had a birthday canoli tower made for dads 60th. Just yum. :) Have been here on a weekend for dine in- its mental popular so be prepared for a bit of a wait.
Delicious food and mouth watering cakes!!!. I came to visit for the first time today and met the friendly and welcoming owners. I had a chicken risotto which was to die for along with a soy latte, and how could I resist in those mouth watering cakes, I had to take a selection with me to go, everything looked amazing. Cant wait to visit again. Two thumbs up!!!!

Ok food. .very rude staff!. I like the food there..the coffee is not bad either however the staff is extremely rude and blunt. They are not friendly..they don't smile back at you or respond when u say thank you. I only go there because they open early and they are on my way to work...I was there yesterday...the blond girl behind the counter didn't even respond to my "good morning! " ..how rude and annoying!
Later she slammed my coffee and my meal on my table without an apology or even eye contact. Poor selling and communication skills over there!! Dear owner. .I hope u read this one day..it is not all about food...its how well u treat ur costumers..you should know that!!
I quite liked the biscuits, they were beautiful however tried the peach cake today and was a little disappointed, it was quite soggy and I didn't enjoy it all. Growing up my zia (Aunty) made beautiful peaches, was really looking for that same experience as these cakes are quite rare.
Best Cannoli and Vanilla Slice... Friends kept telling me to take the trip down to Franks and try their Vanilla Slice and Cannoli..

Most favourite place yet!! Went in for breakfast which was fantastic, then followed by an assortment of sweets which were to die for. Service and pricing were great as well. Will definitely be returning and highly recommend!
Cakes and biscuits are awesome!. When out this way I nearly always venture in for sweets. Tried the red cake most recently and was blown away by the taste and the guilt :( ahaha

A Pastry Gem in the Southeast!. I have a client out this way, so decided to find a place we could meet over coffee. A local suggested Frank's, so we thought we'd check it out. It was a weekday coffee meeting, so the issue some other posters seem to have with them being too busy was not a problem for us.
The cake and pastry selection was probably about half the size of Brunetti in Carlton, which is of course massive for a suburban bakery. And it was so fresh--the quality was extraordinary. Best cannoli I've had outside of New York City and waaay better than Brunetti. And for the poster who queried why there was chocolate in it, it's not at all uncommon in my experience, just not in Australia. Others in my group had an eclair ("beautiful"), the cassata ("Oh my god this is seriously good") and a cheesecake ("delicious").
The coffee was not spectacular, but it was respectable by city standards and outstanding by suburban standards. The service was timely and there was plenty of room to sit inside or out, which was important for us because we had work as well as eating to do. We were impressed and have decided to make this our normal meeting spot when we have the luxury of time to add coffee and beautiful cake to our meeting plans. Frank's is a real gem!
Niiicceee!!!. First of all, how do you get a parking at this place and secondly it was so busy and fast paced, i felt like i was at the market! anyway, got some cakes for afternoon tea at work and i must say the cannoli's are delicious, but..... when do traditional cannoli have chocolate inside the pastry? Anyway they were delicious just the same. Everyone at worked loved them. Will definitely go back (at a somewhat quieter time) and try the other cakes/pastries.
Bought an Orange Mud Cake for a birthday, can't remember ever having a nicer cake! Everyone loved it, it was perfect! Yum!

Comment: There was an abundance of Italian cookies and cakes that we're hard ignore. Pies and Pasties and some pasta. We went for some pies, gelati ice cream and I could not resist the home made lasagne with salad and finished off with coffee. Everything was nice but the one thing I will come back for in this place was the home made lasagne. Yumm! Coffee was pretty good too.

Delicious cakes!. Wow what a delight Frank's Cakes is to the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Have been a few times now and it's fast becoming a word of mouth place to go for the locals.
Have tried most cakes and have been impressed with the quality and freshness. You wont be disappointed with their cannoli, vanilla slice and their delicious italian donughts.
Have to disagree with Mena (previous post), there are plenty of cakes shops in Melbourne and the service is fast and friendly considering how busy they are. On the weekends the place is packed, so best to phone order in advance if you want to get in and out.
We popped in for an unplanned family brunch and can't wait for another trip. Despite being very busy, the food was quick and delicious. They offer a great range of dishes which meant that everyone got what they wanted. The serving sizes were large and a few of us couldn't finish, although we wanted to! The selection of delicious cakes meant that we simply couldn't leave without a few to snack on later, and they even have little treats for your fur-babies.

My cousin is a regular here, so my family and I had to try this for ourselves. Breakfast was great and so were their cakes. There is a constant stream of customers, some to dine in, some to takeaway, many do both. On weekends, pre-Covid, it will be crowded and you may have to park on the opposite side of the road. This morning, we arrived at 9.30 and it was easy to get a slot on site but their parking lot was choc-a-bloc by the time we left.
We have been customers of this wonderful place for several years. We recently ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday. Not only did it look fantastic but it was also the moistest red velvet cake we've ever had. Thanks you Frank's for making my daughter's birthday special.
Today was my daughter's birthday and after having and an absolutely shocking and horrible experience on Hatters and Hares we arrived this place for breakfast with my daughter, an overseas guest and my Wife. I was so upset and embarrassed in front of my family and my mate because of that experience however, the staff and the team there completely changed my mood. the provided an excellent service and even they brought a candle and sang happy birthday to my daughter without us asking them. the food was great and at least I could be a bit relief of what happened earlier.
Thank you the management for the great staff and how they can make a difference. Thank you so much.

This is my favourite cosy and friendly local restaurant for lunch. I always order a Salt & Pepper Calamari, calamari is crispy outside and tender inside. Slices of orange in the green salad make it light and fresh, a great dish. We also ordered 3 Mini Arancini Balls, they are very big, not the mini size. Cheesy and tasty, well-balanced dish. A few selections of burgers are also popular, worth giving it a try next time.
Excellent coffee, amazingly gorgeous cakes, slices and biscuits, great atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff. One of my favourite coffee spots!
I am Emma Eve Sylvia Derwent and it is obvious these people hate me. Just because I don’t have a job, they make me wait and don’t wanna serve me. For every person that has a job there are 400 people that don’t so stick that in your pipe and smoke it!!!
I am on medication that forces me to be lazy and I don’t owe anyone anything. I only go out to eat when I have to and I refuse to drive far away because I HATE traffic, I repeat I really hate traffic.
And no one works their butt off for my survival. I only come here because my dad’s name was Frank and I loved him heaps.
