Review Koffee Bar - Ferntree Gully

Suzie Karaga
I read online that this place had amazing milkshakes and great food. I ordered the Açai bowl with a chocolate thick shake. My partner ordered the big brekky with a beehive shake. My meal was nice, could have done with more fruit though. The thick shake was good. My partner enjoyed his meal. He thought the shake was really good too. Great staff, great ambiance and close to home.

The coffee and toasties was fantastic, the staff are lovely. We will come back and try more of their menu.

Came here to have lunch while I wait for my car to get serviced at Holden. My friend recommended the place. Was pleased with my lunch and monster oreo milkshake.

I stopped here today after reading mostly positive reviews about the friendly service and have to say that I found it decidedly lacklustre. New girl learning the ropes was okay but other girl teaching her was quite rude and coffee guy apparently couldn’t even make eye contact when giving me my coffee. I always act very pleasant, use manners and smile, so not sure why the attitude. I won’t be back.

Not bad if you don’t mind waiting 25 minutes for a cappuccino Don’t make excuses for poor customer service. You’re a cafe. Of course it gets busy. It’s called employing enough staff to fill the demand. Especially when you’re paying a premium price for a coffee. You’ll get better service and coffee at maccas.

Been here quite a few times and the food is great, especially the acai bowl and choc bowl. My wife and I don't live in the area but when we're nearby, we often swing past just for these, even if it's take away. Always quick service too, so can't fault them.

The staff are always so lovely, their tumeric latter are amazing and their acai bowls, OMG don't get me started they're awesome
Definitely recommend

Stopped by for a coffee at this cute little coffee bar. The setup was simply and cute and the service was fast and efficient. It was a good coffee

A HIVE OF ACTIVITY

Today there was some big charity runs going on at the 1000 steps in Ferntree Gully and I wanted to get down there and do the steps as well. I stopped for a bite to eat at Koffee Bar and ordered a Brekky Wrap and one of their drinks, the Beehive. This is quite possibly one of the messiest drinks I've ever tasted but boy was it delicious. Chocolate and honeycomb and other flavors mix together with bits of chocolate biscuit thrown in because why not? The Brekky Wrap was great as well, light and fluffy eggs, spinach and avocado all wrapped up in a tasty treat. Definitely going back for seconds :)

Came here as I wanted to try the smoothie bowl.. I was impressed it was a rather large serve that I could not finish, although it was not blended properly. The service was average & coffee the same , although I ordered an almond milk latte so that might have been the issue :) happy to try & give it second chance

Ordered smashed avo with extras and added a poached egg. They brought out my meal without the egg so I told them. They apologized and said they will bring one out for me. I waited over 5 MINUTES for a poached egg so my food was sitting there and had gone cold in that time. Also my boyfriend had finished his whole meal by the time the egg came. They bring out my egg on a plate finally and I look and it is FULLY RAW. How can you serve that and think it’s ok or how could they not see that it’s raw? So disgusting. I showed them and they took the egg back and I had to eat my COLD meal without egg which was revolting because it was so cold. Really disappointed. And I would not recommend this place to anyone. And also it was $4 to add bacon and they give me only two tiny pieces and $4 for hardly any tomatoes as you can see.

Went ther for Brunch yesterday. Service from the staff was amazing, the girls were very friendly. The food was delicious, and the brewed chai tea was a standout :) Will definitely be back!!

Friendly and accommodating staff, even at 6am! Great venue and yummy food. The brekky board I had was fairly simple but the yoghurt was delish! So light and airy.
Would definitely recommend for a great start to the day.

Came across this place when searching for somewhere that was open early...thanks guys for being one of the only cafes in the area serving brekkie from 6am!

I wasn't expecting much so I guess my expectations were more than exceeded. Staff were super helpful, food was full of flavour and presented nicely and coffee was of the high standard we've come to expect in Melbourne.

The only criticism would be a refresh to the interiors and branding - the outdated look doesn't do justice to the food, coffee and service.

We visited here while we had a break. Menu is breakfast only. The shakes seem to been dialed down a little but they are still great! The chilli scramble was the winner. Loved how they added the extra mushrooms through the dish and not on the side.

This is my favourite cafe in the area, hands down. I love the rustic interior, it makes the surrounds feel comfortable and warm. Their coffee is always amazing, both soy and normal milk and their chai is delicious too. I love the variety of their menu and I often have cravings for their choc bowl, my favourite dish. It never disappointments, chocolate and peanut is just the perfect pair. Their acai bowl is really well done too and so reasonably priced compared to some other cafes in the region.
They've even refunded me a meal once because there was something wrong with it. I love this place, I hope I can consider myself a regular.

Food was delicious had the waffles with chocolate and berries. While my husband had the scrambled chill eggs. Our coffees came out and were great and food soon followed which was tasty! It really hit the spot with the flavours and how it was presented. The staff were friendly and personable. Will go back there again!
The Fo0die
Fo0die dined as a guest of Koffee Bar and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.

Koffee Bar initially set out to be exactly that, a coffee bar for a quick coffee and cake stop and has evolved with time to become a full blown eatery catering for a range of their local community needs. From a quick pitstop for a coffee with a sweet treat to a proper brunch to a soon to be scrolled ice cream stop, Koffee Bar seems to be constantly moving itself with the trends and making sure they nail the trends.
Good Food Good Mood
I was interested to dine as a guest of Koffee Bar this morning for their location pits them in direct competition with Lorna a cafe I visited late last year and thoroughly enjoyed. I was intrigued to see how KB stacks up as they were the original on the strip having been there five plus years and have a loyal customer base of locals. I’m pleased to say the food was absolutely on par. I had a cacao smoothie bowl which I was utterly delicious and a green with envy juice which was very refreshing. Hubby enjoyed a smashed avo with haloumi and a short black. He was happy to report they did their cafe name justice with a very strong coffee game.
Not sure if it’s the area but I found the dishes extremely well priced and value for money. They were beautifully presented too. Had I not been trying to be healthy I definitely would have tried one of the monster shakes and banana loaf which were recommended by fellow bloggers but instead I ordered a chai that incidentally never turned up.
What’s really exciting is as of next week they are starting to trial dessert nights a few nights a week which is really cool given I’ve had several experiences recently where I’ve needed to go out for a sweet treat post dinner to celebrate a birthday or just cos and unfortunately the burbs don’t necessarily cater for that late night option. This means locals won’t have to trek into the city so they are filling that void nicely, and not only that they are offering Thai style ice cream which is a really cool unique concept that is only available in one other place in Melbourne. Pretty exciting stuff for locals!

The decor of this cafe is interesting, with hessian sacks and dark woods. It has quite a rustic feel, and I liked how they’d done something different. They offer brunch and a range of cakes and sandwiches in the counter. For such a small cafe the choice was excellent, however, by far the highlight were the monster shakes.
Alex
Absolutely amazing! My Acai bowl was just incredible! Staff were super friendly and the cafe had such a lovely feel to it! Everyone should deffs come down and give it a try
Jayde Mary
Food was pretty average, and the monster milkshake wasn't too spectacular. However the cafe ambience was nice and the staff were lovely and friendly.

I came here on a Wednesday afternoon and found the decor quite nice with the hanging light bulbs and black and white canvas prints on the wall. The service was quick, in addition the waiters were polite and quite nice. The açai bowl that I had was quite large in size and also worthy at the price of $10.5 in comparison to other cafes in Melbourne. It had lots of granola inside, overall a refreshing dish. The matcha latte was sweet and there wasn't much other flavours... there's room for improvement for this drink. Hence I give it a 4/5.

I don't know why it has such a low rating but I found it a relaxing place with good selection of menu items.

Absolutely delicious milkshakes and food!! A touch pricey but its definitely worth it!! Its perfect if you wanna treat yourself with something yummy!!
Also have tons of variety to choose from!! Cute place with great service! =) Will definitely be coming back! =)

My only disappointment was that half the menu is not priced or on the menu that you're brought. They have a whole range of wonderful things to eat, but you don't know what they are until you get there. Most of the menu items are on display, so you choose from the glass cabinets when you arrive. They really put a lot of care and consideration into their menu and their service. Very big thumbs up from us.

Everything is exceptionally well priced & tastes fantastic. The atmosphere is beautiful and almost makes you think you're in Fitzroy, rather than Ferntree Gully.

They also had a gender neutral toilet, which we always think is fantastic. :)

Came for brunch with friends today and food was lovely we had the smashed avo, the breakie bagel and the egg n bacon roll for food and the mudslide and rockyroad drinks with coffee too :)

A pleasant café in a small strip of shops in Ferntree Gully. I was given a cheerful welcome, and the banter of staff suggested a contented workplace. The interior was quite interesting, with weathered dark stained timber tables and benches, a charcoal colour scheme, printed hessian, and some unusual wall decorations featuring photos superimposed on fence palings and parts of old wooden pallets. The menu included some vegetarian items, and there were also veggie wraps and pasties in the bain marie. I had coffee and peanut butter slice, and both were good. It’s not the trendiest venue around, but probably the nearest to it in the area.

Just ate here for the first time and all our food was very tasty and enjoyable. Couple of comments - would have liked the option of forks and knives with our meals , milkshake could have been colder especially on a warm day like today and the biggest issue - the smell of sewerage from outside the front of the shop was disappointing as we had to move from outside seating to inside to avoid it. The council need to address that as bad for business.

This cafe is small in structure with an industrial feel. The cafe opens early engouh to cater for required caffeine fixes prior to work which is a plus and they use good quality soy. Costumer service although polite engouh leaves you feeling as though your business is kind of annoying due to the girls demina. I once witness another costumer complain that he was charged a different price to the one listed in which they advised was due to changed menu pricing (which is illegal by the way to display one price and charge another) although they did refund him thier response was apathetic at best. I have had the acai bowl on a few occasions which is really nice and full of flavour. It is a dairy free option. My only complaint is that the takeway option often the lid won't close and the last time it spilled everywhere which has unfortunately put me off purchasing it again in a takeway form. Great customer service isn't just about saying the right things, alot can be told from body language and that's what I feel is lacking in this cafe.

Worst customer service of what is clearly a far too young and inexperienced manager. Did not seem prepared for opening time going by the look of her attire and general customer service attitude.
Coffee was ok but had to wait far too long for first thing before work and was served with a side of cigarette smoke. Was a terrible start to my day.
This cafe is a great option in the area, particularly for lunch/take away, they have good prices and consistently great coffee. Unfortunately the take away coffee cups consistently drip leak from under the lid and this is very frustrating when you end up with coffee stains on you clothes in the car! Previous experience also leads me to the opinion that the mega milkshakes look better than they taste. Maybe they are bulk prepared and so any ice-cream/thicker consistency is lost from sitting in the fridge. If this was improved they would be amazing!

Would never recommend this place to anyone.

For starters I don't know if things have changed since I last went but advertising as having gluten free options but not actually having any? That is not okay.

I find this place is trying desperately to be something that without different management, it will never be.

My daughter knows one of the young girls who used to work here and all I want to say is I can not believe some of the stories I have been told about the way they were being treated, and after leaving they are still yet to see their super, it's ridiculous that people can own a business when they continuously screw their staff over. (Been here about 5 times over the last year and fair to say I've seen about 15 different staff working there, staff turnover is so bad I'm surprised they are still in business!!) The female owner is also apparently very rude and has been known to talk rudely about part of her team to other team members (shouldn't be referring to them as a team when that is not how a team works!!)

I refuse to give my money and support businesses like these and hope anyone considering going here does the same. Spend your money anywhere else and thank me later.

Work out your problems Koffee Bar!!! Your vibe was awesome but I've never seen such a dramatic negative change happen so fast. And treat your staff properly or don't own a business, it is really not that difficult.

Came here at 10am and I was craving a breakfast meal more than just a milkshake. Hence, I settled for their brekky bagel & a nutella hot chocolate. The bagel was a bit tough to chew & messy to eat, however the nutella hot choc was perfect on a cold winter morning 👌🏻 My friend enjoyed her acai bowl & berry-nana smoothie. Would love to return to try one of their famous monster milkshakes though!

We went to Koffee Bar after seeing some pictures of their monster milkshakes online. Their prices were reasonable, but we were disappointed with their service. Our table was covered for quite a time with the dishes of previous customers, and the wait staff walked past a number of times without clearing our table. The food was okay, and the monster milkshakes looked better than they tasted.

My partner and I love this place, firstly because it's so close to home and second the coffee & food is awesome!
Simple meals but yummy and at a good price.
Coffee is awesome, our usual take away coffee place.
So glad this opened up in Ferntree Gully, we needed something good here for coffee.

The 'monster milkshakes' are definitely monstrous! Sweet, sticky and outrageously large, it was exactly as expected. We also enjoyed breakfast there, and we both left with full bellies!
Koffee bar is well priced, quick service, the ambience is the only this that is lacking.

Was busy the Saturday morning we went and we were surprised how quick our milkshakes and food came out! Yum milkshakes but the bread needed to be toasted under the smashed avo!
Michelle
Awful breakfast. Scrambled eggs were terribly dry and just blah. Couldn't eat. Would never go back. Coffee wasn't bad but not great. Never again.

Great place to come for breakfast or lunch after you've done 1000 steps...the mega milkshakes look awesome!! The food was great and the service was very quick.
Paul
Milkshakes are amazing. Service was good and menu looked nice. We had 3 specialty milkshakes between 3 and we all thought they were great!
Loulou
After hearing much hype we finally decided to try the monster shake, it was worth it! The shake although almost sickly sweet was picture worthy and worth the money. However the banana smoothie we ordered with it was watery and warm, very over priced for banana blended with milk
Atmosphere is good but a wider menu range is also required.

I ordered a coffee, monster shake and eggs and bread. Coffee was delicious and not bitter! I had the honeycomb Monstershake, which was presented very well, I didn't have the cream as I don't like cream so maybe that helps with the sickly factor. I found the actual shake wasn't that tasty and lacked flavour but the outside edible parts were yum and for $5 I had to try one.
Eggs were standard scrambled eggs, nothing to rave about. Menu/food taste could do with improving but I'd go back just for a coffee.

I am so excited that this place is around the corner from me, it's so hard to find a place in Ferntree Gully that doesn't do "the usual stuff"! Their monster shakes are great for the Instagram cred but should really be shared between 2 or 3 people as they are ridiculously sickly sweet. We made the mistake of getting pancakes as well as one milkshake each and we couldn't get through even a quarter of each. The staff are awesome and were super accommodating of our kid which was great.
Sharon
After hearing about these mass milkshakes I thought I had to try one! The milkshake looked phenomenal as it came out with the cream chocolate and Nutella around the top however the actual taste of the milkshake was super milky and bland. Improving the flavor to match the look of them would be fantastic and perhaps not having the staff taking up tables out the front on their breaks to allow for more customers would be beneficial.

My cousins wanted to go here as they have seen the milk shakes on Instagram , and I think they were quite happy with what they got. How ever all the other food was pretty bad. My husband and had coffee and he had a long black that looked and tasted like dish water, we had scrambled eggs ( as they don't do poached!!!) which was fine but we also had pancakes which as we got up to get out own water we watched the girl put some precooked pancakes in the MICROWAVE and then preceded to pour berries and put back in MICROWAVE again! So not even freshly cooked pancakes. To top it all off one of the girls was quite rude and just dumped our food on the table with bang as it felt like we were interrupting her sleep in! Would definitely not go back in a million years !
Hello. Imnikki
Let me preface this by saying this review is based on the milkshakes only as we did not tried the rest of the menu. The milkshakes definitely lived up to its hype. Overflowing with cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce/peanut butter, both the Mr PB and Blonde Bombshell Vanilla we ordered were delicious. Just the right amount of ice cream to milk ratio without being too watered down or too dense. However I did find the vanilla a tad sweet. The different flavoured fudge topping to complement each milkshake was a nice touch. A bit pricey at $10 each but it was very filling and could be a meal in itself.

On our way to Mt Dandenongs, we just had to make a stop at this new cafe of suburban hype for freakshakes! We no longer have to envy the Sydney siders with their gigantic monster shakes. The shakes are so large that it can replace a meal or share between two. The next table had ordered kid's sizes which seems like a smart choice.
Willzzz
Best coffee ! and service, the staff are always so helpful and friendly. Love the decor, there always seems to be something different and the kids love the milkshakes they do.

Went here today( Saturday 7 March) at 1pm and they were closed. It says on the Urban spoon site that you are open for lunch.
