Review The Fitz Cafe & Rooftop - Fitzroy

Damien Calvert
The Fitz Cafe is a great place on Brunswick St for a casual catchup or bite. The rooftop was unfortunately closed during my visit (short staffed) so we sat outside in the shade. Staff were great and food service after ordering was really prompt. Buttermilk Chicken and Steak sandwich were both delicious. They are using QR ordering and are unfortunately requiring both mobile and email (just use dummy details) which is something they should rethink.

Attention to owner/management, the price of golden latter on the menu and your system don't match, I was charged $6 when menu said $5.. I wonder how many of the items were the same case and customers charged more than what they're informed of without checking? If the prices have increased its understandable but please update your MENU accordingly. I'd take this is an honest mistake, otherwise it's disgraceful. Side note: customers beware when paying by card will incur surcharge , I wasn't informed either. Other than that I had a good turmeric drink , something different. The atmosphere of the Cafe was warm with the fireplace. And the staff was friendly but food was slow. My friend ordered Classic BLT and it took a good 30 mins to come

We were looking for a cafe open after 4pm For a hot chocolate on a cold day and we found it. Staff were super friendly and the hot chocolate was tasty. We also enjoyed the vegan banana bread and the sandwich.

Best latte I have ever had and the food was great. Great customer service.

Good menu and fast service. Really enjoyed my meal

Did not go up to rooftop but downstairs was nice looking out the window 'people watching' on a Sunday. Contactless ordering/paying from your table. All of our meals were generous and very tasty.

It was so bad we couldn’t do anything but laugh. The food was actually heinous and the staff were so rude. We walked in and we’re greeted with just the words ‘no food today’, when we explained we had a booking they begrudgingly sat us down. We had booked the rooftop to be told it was closed at that time despite being able to book it. Our coffees came 5 minutes apart and truly the worst was when we ordered a vegan option of the avo toast it arrived with feta and when we asked if it was vegan feta we were told it wasn’t and if we didn’t want cheese on the vegan option we had to ask…which negates the vegan point. When the avo toast came back it was quite literally that - plain avocado scooped right out the tub on a slice of bread. It said it came with dukkah and micro greens which were no where to be seen. The other dish we ordered also had things missing. The staff were so rude and I saw one of them walk over to a table waiting to order, tell them one minute, reply to a text and then take their order. We mentioned when leaving that things were missing to the manager again clapping back at us saying if we want vegan food we have to ask for vegan food, which one does tend to do when they’re vegan. After 5 minutes of trying to argue with us he offered 25% off the two food dishes. In hindsight I can’t believe we paid at all. Total trash, avoid.

Possibly the worst cafe in Fitzroy. Arrived for a booking at midday, was instantly greeted with "we're not doing food". Advised the staff we had a booking on the rooftop to then be informed the rooftop doesn't open at this time (despite it being available to book). After being sat at a table my partner and I ordered our coffee and food (ordered the food straight away as the staff advised there would be a significant wait). Coffees arrived 5 minutes apart (my partners sat on the counter until we asked for it). Ordered a vegan option of the smashed avo which arrived with feta on it. Asked the staff if it was vegan feta to be told "no it's a vegan option for tofu". Told the staff that a vegan option means the entire dish should be vegan, not just one part of it. Food was taken away and arrived back with various missing toppings (was supposed to be avo with Dahl and 'micro spices on top', neither was on the avo, was just avo on toast, not smashed just scooped out with the most bland tofu I have ever tasted). My partner ordered another dish which was also missing items. Advised the staff of the food issues and one of the more pleasant staff spoke to the manager and kitchen and brought the manager over to speak with us. Seemed like he couldn't care less. Offered 25% off the incorrect dish (the vegan option that arrived non vegan) and that was all. Honestly I have no idea why this place is popular. Apparently it changed owners and just trades off its old reputation. There are plenty of great cafes in Fitzroy and this is not one of them. Avoid at all costs.

Consistently one of the best cafes in Melbourne, especially for breakfast/lunch. Love it. The fact that so many staff have been there for 10+ years means it must be a great place to work also!
Jason Grant Russell
Delicious food, friendly staff, incredible customer service. Highly recommend
Joe McGuigan
Great service. The sharing platter is amazing. A must go venue for lunch. 👍
Doris Yanzi
Good food, nice environment, loved it. Recommend the chickpea burger

The Fitz is somewhere you go and know you'll always have great food and amazing customer service. The chai tea is the best in Melbourne.
Ian Backhouse
As always great food, good service and nice and close to home. Two For One Tight Arse Tuesday's sees a different menu than the rest of the week so some of the favourites aren't there howevever there's enough to choose from. Great place to meet up with friends.
Nathan Woodford
Two for the price of one,and it was Fantastic! Maybe if they throw a couple of free beers in it would have been Unbelievable!

Thanks to Megan & Mil for a brilliant day yesterday at The Fitz yesterday watching the AFL Grand final. Its an awesome place for a function on the roof top bar. Perfect service and scrumptious food. 10/10
Reece Howen
The food was awesome, the customer service was great as well. Highly recommend this to anyone.

Absolutely sensational food, had the slow braised beef on the 2 for 1 Tuesday and it was a flavour sensation!!! The staff are amazing and everything is worth while 👌🏽👌🏽

Sensational food and service. A must for any trip to Melbourne. The Nutella pancakes were a standout!

What a smokin’ venue. Great food, awesome staff and a great vibe. Can’t wait to get back there

The Fitz has the best Seafood Linguine in town, followed by Rhubarb and Blueberry crumble. Great winter treat.

Had an amazing breakfast here, with great coffee (which was much needed after spending the day before celebrating locally), but most importantly, great service by Fraser, who entertained us as well as fed and caffiened us. We're not locals, but will definitely return on our next visit to the city!
Mischa Temple
Been a regular for years, always a great menu, excellent service and affordable pricing.

Insta: melbfoodie_mark<br/>YT: MelbFoodieMark<br/>** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne!<br/>-<br/>I've heard great things about The Fritz through a friend and I'm glad I finally visited. Located on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, not too far away from the city. Our server was lovely and attentive and I absolutely enjoyed the relaxing vibe downstairs.<br/>We grabbed Superfood Bowl ($18) and Salmon Rosti ($19). Superfood Bowl had Charr broccoli, Roast pumpkin, Cajun Cauliflower, Bamboo shoots & Grain topped with toasted nuts and hummus - basically all the healthy ingredients thrown into a bowl haha. I also added chicken ($6) just to take it up a notch. One of the most healthy-tasting but filling brunch I've ever had - I was full all day long (unfortunately not the most aesthetic one :/ ) Salmon Rosti was basically Smoked salmon served on light but crispy rosti with pesto and smashed avo. Very tasty with crispy texture of rosti that complemented the meal. The portions were generous overall and well-priced especially considering Zomato Gold. Will definitely visit again soon to check out its famous rooftop!

Easy to find , good location at the Connor of the street, plenty 2 hour meter parking, because the current situation, very quiet lunchtime, big plates with good amount food, nice , could be more hotter the meals, but the eggs are perfect.

Outdoor tables with a hint of nature shinning down on you, great coffee and absolute stunner meals . <br/><br/>Friendly and welcoming staff . <br/><br/>

Had a selection of dishes to share. The zucchini chips were crunchy and nicely seasoned. Salt and pepper calamari, Mac n cheese croquets and meatballs were all nice but nothing really stood out. My favourite was the zucchini chips and the sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream. Pudding was moist and flavoursome and delish.

Wonderful experience at The Fitz. Warm, comfortable interior. I shared 5 tapas for $40 with my friends. The vegan gyozas were delicious and our favourite dish. The elderflower spritz was nice. Great customer service, can’t wait to visit again.

An all-rounder, The Fitz is sure to please anyone and everyone. Casual and welcoming vibe, tick! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seatings, tick! Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also famous for their bottomless brunch, The Fitz makes sure you are well taken care of any time of the day. <br/><br/>The Honeycomb Waffles is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. The caramelised sweetness of the salted honeycomb, the tartness of the coulis and berries, and the rich chocolatey Nutella worked well together, but I felt that the waffles itself was a tad dry. To balance out all the sugar that I was consuming, I also ordered the Japanese Salmon with tea noodles. Fresh and bright flavours, and definitely the epitome of eating clean.<br/><br/>My strong almond latte was very enjoyable – smooth, creamy and strong. The smoothies were really refreshing, and were the perfect accompaniment to the meal.

Amazing ambiance with sound crowd. Perfect place to have Brunch or try something new. Food service was a bit too slow but worth the wait. Food was as good as it looked in real. Sufficient for 2 people to share or one humongous self hunger need. Highly recommend and a must try place in the beautiful suburb of Fitzroy.

WHAT A GREAT MENU AND VIBE!<br/><br/>Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and loved the atmosphere! We sat outside to enjoy the sunshine, but there were plenty of seating areas inside, upstairs and at the rooftop bar. <br/><br/>We were impressed with the variety of brunch and lunch dishes available. We ordered the duck pappardelle, japanese salmon noodle salad & the waffles and they did not disappoint. Highly recommend ordering those dishes!<br/><br/>Located in the heart of Fitzroy, its an awesome place to enjoy a meal and you can easily spend hours here either eating or drinking. <br/><br/>Customer service was so lovely and friendly and could not fault it at all.

Still drooling from our recent visit at @thefitzonbrunswickst <br/>The food, the vibe of place and service is absolutely amazing.<br/>.<br/>.<br/>With indoor and outdoor seating, it is perfect for all weather conditions - as we have in Melbourne!<br/>.<br/>.<br/>Coming to the food.. as usual it was hard to decide what not to get - but yet decision had to be made and we went for -<br/>* kickarse scramble with Salmon<br/>* Japanese noodle salad with salmon skewers.<br/>* Moroccon M’hanncha which is baked filo pastry<br/>* and Hangover cure & bery berry crush smoothies.<br/>.<br/>.<br/>The food tastes amazing and the portion size is good. The dishes are nominally priced and this is definitely perfect breakky/ lunch/ brunch destination.<br/>.<br/>.<br/>Much much recommend.

Love the breakfast and coffee here. Dinners very good as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/><br/>2 for 1 mains on a Tuesday ... you can’t go wrong! Delicious and fresh food, egg plant chips were a must, the Nutella brownie was big enough for a family of 12 and the service was excellent!
Connie
Really enjoyed the breakfast I had here the other day 😍 we ordered some coffees, berry smoothie as well as the fritters, big breakfast and honeycomb waffles 🥰 the coffee was some of the smoothest I’ve ever had 👌🏼<br/>~<br/>The fritters were super crispy and loved the combo of avocado, salsa and the smoked salmon which I added. <br/><br/>The waffles were also some of the best I’ve had~ they smelt SOOO good and they were super crispy as well! Would order this every time !<br/><br/>Can’t wait to visit again!
Audrey
Came here on a Saturday evening for brunch. We used a promo code from Eatclub, so, everything became cheap. Really love the food and the friendly service. The drinks were also fantastic. Definitely going back here for boozy brunch again!!!

Restaurant allow you to order different dishes on Gold 👍🏻<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>Flat White $4 ☕️<br/>Big Breaky $23<br/>Kickarse Scramble $21 🍳<br/><br/>Flat white ☕️ The coffee is pretty good where you can taste the aroma of the coffee, not too watery or overpowered by milk. The waiter actually spilled some coffee on the coffee plate as the coffee was very full. Great hospitality service when that coffee was taken off the bill 👍🏻<br/><br/>Kickarse Scramble 🍳 May look like a small serving but trust me, it’s really filling. The scramble egg & smoked salmon portion was really generous, had more than enough to complement the 2 slices of bread 🥖. Amazing taste as well, egg was pretty fluffy and wasn’t tasteless or too salty.<br/><br/>Really loved how the staff were so friendly, checking-in if the food’s alright or if we needed anything else. One of the guys even had a lil chat with us. 💯 would come back.

Delicious dishes that’s perfect for any brunch date! I highly recommend getting the waffles and smash and grab!

Such a delicious brunch and lovely staff! I got the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on bread and my friend got the duck and mushroom pasta. Would highly recommend the scrambled eggs, so much salmon was given! I requested some butter on the side 🤫

It was the first time I have visited The Fitz after winning an Instagram competition and I was very impressed. The venue was very cosy and it had an amazing ambience and the staff were very welcoming.<br/><br/>I am not a vegetarian but ordered The Vegan Plate and was awestruck, it was so fresh and delicious. The corn, zucchini and capsicum fritters were so rustic and filling and when dipped in the beetroot relish were so scrumptious. The herb baked field mushroom was so wholesome and transported you straight to a country homestead. Those pickled cucumbers just popped full of taste in my mouth. I would definitely recommend this dish.<br/><br/>I ordered a bowl of crunchy fries to share with my friend. The size was so generous, it was literally a meal in itself and they were perfectly crunchy on the outside and delicious and soft on the inside, the ideal hot chip.<br/><br/>I also ordered the Very Berry Crush. This smoothie was packed full of delicious fruit with sweet and sour equally balancing each other out. It came in a big jug and I could have literally bottled it up and taken it home. I would love to drink this every day of the week.<br/><br/>It’s a great place to catch up with friends or family and I can’t wait to return.
Emz
Very nice, especially enjoyed the coffee and went asked for a second - normal milk as well as my friend - oat milk. Will come back when the rooftop is open and try the tapas next

We came here for lunch, had the Fish of the Day which was grilled barra with vegetables. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned just right, fresh and delicious. Loved the sweet potato fries. Friendly service and funky vibe. The building was a little old as with the furniture and maybe overdue for a refresh, but that certainly does not stop me from wanting to return for the great food!
Lauren Millard
Been here twice in the last month, absolutely loved the 2 for 1 tapas night. We ordered one of every tapas and were very impressed by the taste of everything. The food took a while to come out but was worth it. Went back the second time last week and ordered main meals. Not many vegetarian options. Ordered the Mexican bowl and the beans were extremely spicy which is fine if you love spicy food but not really my thing. So wasn't left with much left that I could enjoy but overall would come back for the tapas! Staff are also friendly.
Joanne Liu
One of my favourite brunch places; especially with Zomato Gold. Their Salmon Soba noddles were exceptional... will definitely be back!

Was invited for brunch at this popular cafe in Fitzroy and it was very tasty. We came as group of 4 so we got to try a few dishes. The kickass scramble, salmon and japanese tea soba, chicken parma and gnocchi ragu. Service was friendly, attentive and the food came out quite fast considering how busy they were when we visited. The gnocchi was pillowy and soft with a delicious tender lamb ragu. Chilli scramble was good but the chilli element wasn't very strong. The salmon was perfectly cooked and worked perfectly with the Japanese tea noodles. It was a refreshing and you could taste the asian influence.<br/>Overall a good busy cafe in Fitzroy with a decent outdoor seating area out front and upstairs.
Hannah Savige
Dishes don't match the atmosphere/decor of the place! It's set up like a pub/bar but serves beautiful 'insta worthy' brunch dishes! Didn't love eating my baked eggs opposite a grungy looking bar. Menu selection is good- and the food is very good quality. The service was a little slow- food took a while to come out and then the table wasn't cleared until I asked a waiter to. The baked eggs were delicious, as was the calamari salad and lamb salad- however the portion sizes were on the smaller side.
Maddiekbarnes
First place I think of when it comes to a boozy brunch. The Fitz does not disappoint! Friendly and quick service. Food portions are appropriate, well priced for Fitzroy. Gorgeous decor upstairs and a dj on the weekend. Would highly recommend!!

A Sunday morning well-spent at this cafe. Was seated in a booth facing Brunswick St and started off with the best dirty soy chai latte I’ve ever had! Service was a bit slow, however that was all forgotten when the fairy floss pancakes and bircher muesli were placed in front of me. The food was fresh and tasty, and the portions were generous. There’s outdoor seating (that’s pet-friendly), perfect for sunny days.

These guys are awesome... we will be back
@brunchgirl
I've heard amazing things about The Fitz, and it's true it was great! However, I was a little disappointed by the menu options... for a sweet tooth such as myself, there wasn't a whole lot to choose from. The pancakes I chose were cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of fluff! The only problem is, I am not a fan of passionfruit which was one of the main components to this dish... <br/><br/>We also tried the breakfast board. This was a great mix for the fussy breakfast eater who just cannot decide what to eat! The only problem with this was presentation, it seemed as though there was no real order to plating.<br/><br/>I would definitely return but it wasn't as exciting as some of the other cafes in the area.
Olive Sundays
The Fitz is a two-story restaurant where you can get brunch, a tasty pub meal or catch up with friends for some drinks and tapas. The Fitz - smash and grab. The smash and grab was a great dish. It was the classic smashed avo on toast with the addition of Danish feta, crisp sugar snap peas and a trail of dukkah which made it stand out. The poachies were cooked well with perfect runny yolks. It was flavourful and fresh, loved this dish.
Jepps
Ordered the grain salad, chicken burger and chicken parma. The salad was so fresh and had really nice bits of chargrilled cauliflower and the balance of textures and flavours worked well together (I added an egg). The chicken burger was also thoroughly enjoyed however the parma was sadly not. This was dry and not the best going around. This place is super busy and can be hard to get a table.
Priscilla Yeo
Ordered the kickarse scrambled and it was pretty good! The serving size was huge and they were very generous with the salmon!<br/><br/>Service was great; staff were so friendly, and they were dancing to the music as well and it really made my day hahhaa. <br/><br/>The whole ambience of this brunch place was great! Loved it!

Came in on a Saturday and thankfully we got a seat right away. It was in a spot where when people open the door we froze bc of the wind but the place itself is pretty cosy. Staffs were really lovely, though food was like a long wait unfortunately.<br/><br/>My friend got the pesto benedict with bacon instead of ham and it was lovely, the flavour pairing was wonderful and the egg was perfectly cooked and runny. I love the crunch nd sweetness from the caramelized nuts.<br/><br/>My pancake unfortunately wasn't enjoyable. It was definitely was denser and heavier than I imagined it to be (fluffy and spongy) so I really struggled to eat after only a few bites and left half untouched :( Also, the passionfruit sauce and fairy floss made it bit worse and would definitely need more fresh fruits instead.<br/><br/>However, one of the staff was really nice as to apologize for it and offered a free cookie which was really huge and pretty yummy albeit too sweet (could use dark choc chips instead). Zomato gold was also easy to use.<br/><br/>Overall, a decent brunch place, especially for zomato gold users, though could definitely use some speeding up and improvements on the pancake :)<br/><br/>( follow for more!)<br/><br/>xx,joelle.

Sat beside fireplace, got the 2-4-1 deal on tapas for Thursday which got us lovely croquettes and Turkish bread and dips<br/>In mains loved the super bowl and veg penne,<br/>Sticky date pudding was good with vanilla ice cream!<br/>Definitely recommend place for the lovely food and service. Zomato gold diggers you get 1+1 ;)
Pinch Of Bacon
Nice little place! The coffee was divine. Good food. Loved the onion rings - they were the best! Will be back.

The iconic cafe, The Fitz is one of the longest-running cafe in Melbourne. Without looking at the location, people might take a guess where is the location of this cafe. I bet you know it! Yes, it’s located at the heart of Brunswick street, Fitzroy. We’re glad to be invited by The Fitz team to have our foodie experience. <br/><br/>Yay: Coffee, Elixir of Life, Potato, Leek & Parmesan Croquettes, Pesto Eggs Benedict, Fitz French Toast<br/>Nay: Duck Pappardelle’s sauce was slightly too sweet
Kylie
The salmon and potato rosti was very flavoursome and had a great texture that complemented the meal. The rosti was really crispy on the outside. The peppermint loose leaf tea was very flavoursome. A waiter forgot our cutlery but other than that would come back again, highly recommended.
Johanna Lee
The food and service is so good here. We had Fish of the day and Seafood Linguine. The lady staff who took our order was so cheerful and helpful. Great service overall. Will definitely come back again with friends and families.
Crumbs Of A Foodie
Located on Brunswick St in Fitzroy, The Fitz Café is a nice rustic café which makes it quite cosy. They have a fireplace which would be nice on cold days but it was a nice day when we visited. They also have a large outdoor seating area at the side of the café and also a great space upstairs. When we visited we chose to sit inside near the front window. The sun was shining and it was a nice warm brunch spot. We ordered the Brekkie Board, the Smash and Grab and the Fairy Floss Pancakes. The Brekkie Board was a fantastic and yummy selection of breakfast items. A nice menu choice. The Smash and Grab was yummy too. The Danish feta is always a delicious match with avocado. The Fairy Floss Pancakes were beautifully plated. There were three perfectly cooked pancakes and was a lovely way to finish our morning breakfast. Loved all the ingredients especially the lime curd and meringue. We would definitely visit again for these dishes. It would also be nice to sit outside when summer comes around.<br/><br/>We thank The Fitz Cafe for having us and all of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.

Food was delightful, especially the beef cheeks. It was tender and full of flavour. <br/><br/>We had the tapas - croquette and calamari<br/>Thé croquettes weren’t great, wouldn’t order it again. The calamari wasn’t bad but wasn’t amazing either. <br/><br/>Great customer service and would definitely be back again!

We had visited The Fitz for a boozy brunch and here’s what we had! I had tried the pancakes and sambal chili scrambled eggs which were both pretty delicious! My sweet tooth was pretty satisfied with the pancakes as it was thick, soft and fluffy and the sweetness was there!

Best Tunes Combined with a Legendary Boozy Brunch <br/><br/>👥 Fantastic. Every single one of the staff that I met on my visit were friendly and there to help ensure you have a good time. <br/><br/>What we ordered.. <br/>🍴 Fitz French Toast - $18<br/>🍴 Brekkie Board - $22<br/>🍴 Pesto Eggs Benedict - $19<br/><br/>What I was most impressed with at The Fitz Rooftop was the staff and the atmosphere. I wanted to grab my friends and book in a boozy brunch too! Public transport definitely has you covered so you can leave the car at home for this one.<br/> <br/>The atmosphere is easily one of the best parts about The Fitz. The staff are friendly and aren’t afraid to break out some moves whilst going from task to task. There is a DJ set up with the decks. The set is nothing but constant party tunes that will make you want to sing and dance.<br/> <br/>The Fitz offers bottomless drinks and an item of choice from their Bottomless Brunch menu.<br/>The food was tasty but was nothing amazing. The flavours were very basic, but for what you’re paying for – this is incredible value. The point of a boozy brunch is the drinks, so I still absolutely loved visiting The Fitz.<br/> <br/>💚 Boozy Brunch<br/>💚 Easy Going Staff<br/>💚 Fantastic DJ<br/>💚 Indoor and Outdoor Seating Options<br/>💚 ZOMATO GOLD

Absolutely loved my first visit here. The food and wine were definitely on point. They have a nice selection of meals to choose from and the specials on the board certainly were interesting. Had the salmon rosti which was beautifully cooked - it had the perfect balance of crisp, tart, creamy and fresh with all its various components - the rosti, smoked salmon, beetroot and avocado. Our server was really lovely too - just the right balance between attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back again.

Great service and delicious food! We had the Spanish stew with gnocchi, the beef cheek and the salmon skewers with soba noodles. Delicious and well presented. The perfect portion size.

Perfect to sit in front of the ford place on a cold day <br/>Coffee was good 👌🏼<br/>I wasn’t excited by the menu but really enjoyed the food and was pleasantly surprised!! <br/>Great upstairs area for functions <br/>Would definitely head back <br/>They also do a boozy brunch that looked like fun and cocktails lookEd 🙌🏽

Food is alright, not exciting.<br/>Presentable is average.<br/>We came at 12:35pm, our food was not served until 1:32.<br/>A bit disappointment after waiting for an hour. <br/>However, Coffee is good.<br/><br/><br/>

I was blown away by the new life injected into this venue. Whether you're looking for a quite brunch with family, or a bottomless brunch with friends, The Fitz has it all!<br/><br/>The space is split into two parts: Bottom floor is more relaxed cafe vibe, with lots of seating, a beautiful cabinet full of goodies, lovely chalk board display & a warm atmosphere. The top floor (The Rooftop) has a more modern, sophisticated but party vibe (as this is where bottomless brunches are held). I loved the massive alcohol display, as well as the outdoor area, which had a DJ playing as well! Both areas are catered to the offering perfectly.<br/><br/>I was lucky enough to enjoy a bottomless brunch, which did not disappoint!<br/>Espresso Martini: The perfect balance of coffee and alcohol. Such a classic beverage<br/>Dirty Chai Martini: A play on the classic espresso, which had some lovely chai notes coming through. I would definitely order this drink again<br/>French Toast: Such a yummy, sweet dish. Toast was cooked perfectly & topped with lots of fresh fruit<br/>Brekkie board: This dish had a little bit of everything. Scrambled eggs were cooked so nicely. I was a sucker for the super tasty brownie, which was dense and full of chocolate goodness<br/>Eggs benedict: This dish was delicious. I loved the creamy hollandaise, the eggs were runny as soon as they were popped, and the smoked ham saltiness paired really nicely with the pesto<br/><br/>The staff were so so nice. I loved the banter with the bartenders and the relaxed, friendly vibe everyone was sending out.

Great vibe, great service and great coffee! Food is exceptional. Would go again. Our only tip would be to book before you go if you’re thinking of brunchjng there on the weekend.

Great food, great accomodating staff. We had a lovely time. Check out there weekly specials, we were there on a Monday for the $15 wine and pasta night. 👌

The Fitz has been around for a while as a pub, but has been given a new life with new owners and offerings such as their expanded brunch offerings including bottomless brunch on the weekends. I loved the old school feel of the upstairs area with their plush circular booths and massive bar. You can even hire this area out for private or corporate events which would be perfect for a big party!<br/><br/>We had a luxe brunch with cocktails and the dishes we tried were:<br/>🍳 Kickarse Scramble ($20) sambal scrambled eggs w/ spring onion, capers, feta, bamboo shoots, cherry tomato salsa & coriander served on toast <br/>with smoked salmon<br/>🍞 Fitz French Toast ($18) fresh Vienna rye topped with bananas, mascarpone, berries, maple syrup and toasted pistachio<br/>🥓 Brekkie Board ($22) scrambled eggs, chorizo, sourdough rye with avocado & dukkah, baseless quiche, mini brownie & orange juice<br/><br/>All of the dishes were delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. My favourite was the brekkie board because I always love eating a bit of everything and the brownie was great, as well as the French Toast which was just perfect and a total crowd pleaser.<br/><br/>For cocktails we had the Espresso Martini and Strawberry Mint & Lime Daiquiri. They were both delicious - especially the daiquiri!<br/><br/>Keen to come back to try more of their lunch menu. They’re also on Mr Yum so you can check out their whole visual menu at mryum.com.au/fitz <br/>Thanks for having us in!

Love the atmosphere here!<br/><br/>We chose to sit right next to the fireplace, which was perfect for another cold Melbourne morning. Loved the energy and ambience here straight away, and the waitress was quick to serve us.<br/><br/>I chose the vegan bowl which was very fresh and light. Perfect if you’re not after a large meal, I also added two poached eggs. The mushroom in particular was roasted to perfection. <br/><br/>I was a big fan of the smoothies here. I had a protein smoothie and the banana and PB flavours were spot on. The drinks menu is actually amazing!<br/><br/>My friend ordered the smashed avocado, which had a very generous serving of feta.<br/><br/>Definitely want to return for the boozy brunch!<br/><br/>Thank you for having me!
Jessica Sargeant (Unbeleafablefood)
I visited the Fitz for a boozy brunch at it was a blast! <br/><br/>Great value, and a fun day out! You get 1 brunch meal per person, plus unlimited cocktails hehe. The espresso martinis were my favourite but the elderflower spritz was refreshing too. <br/><br/>For brunch, I got a yummy VEGAN BOWL! The flavours were great, with beetroot hummus, mushrooms, veg and a healthy chunk of avocado. <br/><br/>The function area/balcony is the best! There's a great feature wall for photos, plus lots of cover and heating if it is a cold day. Interior inside is cool too. Great central location! <br/><br/>Will definitely be back! Might even host my next b'day party here!

We recently got to try the new weekend bottomless bunch at The Fitz, and it was everything you could want for a boozy start to the weekend. An hour and a half of cocktails including espresso martinis, mimosas and Aperol spritz is a great way to kick off a weekend.<br/><br/>The Fitz is on a busy corner right in the heart of Fitzroy, and these brunches are definitely bringing the crowds in. The place was packed when we were here. We chose to sit downstairs in the main bar area, but there is a lovely room upstairs perfect for bigger groups. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, particularly since there was an open fire burning to help keep out the chill.<br/><br/>The waiter was so lovely, and helped us through the menu choices. We decided to go with baked eggs and pancakes. We enjoyed our fantastic cocktails, and it didn't take long for the food to arrive. The eggs were hot and comforting, with lots of crusty toast to soak up the delicious sauce. The pancakes were a massive stack topped with curd, fruit, meringue and fairy floss. So pretty, not too sweet and perfectly tangy curd. The pancakes themselves were light and fluffy and just so delicious.<br/><br/>With a fabulous ambience and bustling energy, perfect cocktails and food, The Fitz has nailed the popular concept of the bottomless brunch; and by the crowds of people there, I'm not the only one who thinks so.<br/><br/>Thank you for the kind invitation.

Visited this chill and trendy cafe on the weekend and it’s changed a lot. The upstairs area is much more open, and has a rustic interior that was gorgeous! We sat in the super cool booths, very cool for a small group booking! They had a bottomless brunch happening on the rooftop so we go in on the drink also! <br/><br/>We enjoyed their famous Fitz French Toast, the Kickass scramble (my fav) and the brekkie board. All dishes were fantastic, simple and delicious! All you need really! <br/><br/>More importantly that Expresso Martini was devine! <br/><br/>Recommend hitting this place up with your friends or family soon!

We went to the Fitz in winter, the place felt cosy due to the fire place. They do modern Australian food serving brekky, lunch and dinner.<br/><br/>We had the potato leek croquettes and calamari for starters. They were crispy and delicious, the sauce that came it them also complement the fried texture really well. We also had the duck pappadelle, it was a little sweet in my opinion. The beef cheek was beautiful. The spicy sauce that came with it give the beef really interesting flavours.

Had a lovely boozy brunch which was great value at $49 and included a wide selection of unlimited cocktails in the 90min dine-time. My partner had the brekkie board, my fav of which was the very tasty avo and dukkah spread on the sourdough rye; whilst I ordered a separate pesto eggs benedict which had large perfectly poached eggs, a generous serve of tasty hollandaise and was a great well-balanced dish. One of the better benedicts I’ve had in a while. Love the relaxed atmosphere. Staff were also very chilled and friendly. Recommended.

Good sunny winter day, perfect for brunch! Beem planning to go to this place since ages. Bring 3 of my friends here.. upon our arrival, the staffs were greeted us nicely and lead us to our designated table near the window..<br/><br/>FOOD<br/>1. Prosciutto Parma - crumbed chicken breast layered with mozzarella, prosciutto & tomato served with chunky fries & rocket parmesan salad<br/><br/>2. Fitz French Toast - fresh sourdough rye topped with bananas, mascarpone, berries, maple syrup & toasted pistachio nuts<br/><br/>3. Pesto Eggs Benedict - poached eggs, smoked ham, wilted spinach & house made pesto served on english muffins dressed in hollandaise & topped with dukkah<br/><br/>Overall, the food food was fantastic, especially the chicken parma (very recomended!) considering the price and generous portion given. The chicken so juicy, well seasoned and tomato and mozarella dang! What a perfect combo. What dissapoint me is the french toast was just your average french toast, no wow factor for me. The egg benedicts was nice too,<br/>the hollandaise sauce was perfect seasoned, the pesto, ham and spinach corporated in your mouth become ones. 2nd menu you would go for!<br/><br/>In the end,its a good food, good place & good ambience, staff were nice & attentive too. Couldn’t ask for any better! Thanks for a nice experience..<br/><br/>#BHAsFoodDiary

Review for the boozy brunch:<br/><br/>Price: $49 - meal + 1.5 hr unlimited drinks. Really great value and you definitely get your money’s worth with how many drinks you could order! They don’t skimp on the drinks at all.<br/><br/>Service: Staff were amazing and on top of it with drinks and hospitality! Great attitude and very accommodating.<br/><br/>Vibes: only had one other group table with us on the rooftop, so basically felt like the only ones there. <br/><br/>Food: Pretty classic menu. Very basic and averaged. Nothing to write home about, but also nothing to complain.<br/><br/>Drinks: Cocktails were the highlights! Was expecting the drinks to be below average for being a boozy brunch, but no the bartenders really nailed it and the drinks were delicious! Love the bloody mary’s and espresso martinis. <br/><br/>Overall, all of my friends had a lot of fun and would recommend the boozy brunch here! Great for birthdays, special occasions, and group bookings. <br/><br/>Note: we were told that they only take 3 boozy brunches per day, so book ahead of time and take into consideration for the weather!<br/><br/>We were reserved a table on the rooftop, which on the day of had bad rain and hard wind. There is a cover over us, but it was cold and water was dripping down onto our table and we would have preferred being inside. The staff couldn’t do anything about it since all the tables were all booked inside. They do have heaters outside :). On a sunny day, the rooftop would be stellar 🙌

I loved this place! Cannot believe I havn’t visited previously. The set-up was amazing, with lots of outdoor seating and lots of seating inside by the multiple fireplaces! We sat upstairs and loved it, the bar was set up really well and the round table booths were a nice touch and made the space feel really inviting.💯❤️<br/><br/>We were treated to a boozy brunch with mimosas, espresso martinis and an aperol spritz. These were all delicious, and were all made perfectly! 🍸🥂<br/><br/>To eat we had the brekkie board, the smash and grab and fairy floss pancakes. I loved the brekky board, the quiche was delicious, and the addition of the mini brownie was excellent!! Perfect for when you can’t decide what to order! The smash and grab was interesting, the addition of the sugar snap peas was unique and something I havn’t seen done elsewhere. The pancakes were so WOW! They looked absolutely beautiful and they tasted even better!!! Perfectly balanced and not overly sweet, this dish was perfectly executed in every way. 🥰😍<br/><br/>Will 100% be back to enjoy another cheeky bev or two with my brunch 😏😏

Rate: 4.0/5<br/><br/>☆彡Came for Saturday 11:30am brunch and got instant seating in this nice cozy classic hipster-looking cafe - there was indoor fireplace too! Ordered: vegan bowl and candy floss pancakes and flat white! <br/><br/>☆The good:<br/>- really friendly warm staff; reasonable wait time and neat/clean interior<br/>- pancakes are huge in portion! Pictures don’t do them justice! Tasted very filling and worth the $$<br/>- extensive menu with specials on the board<br/>- you can conveniently see pictures of each menu item by scanning QR code with phone camera!<br/>- small thing but, thankyou for not overloading the vegan bowl with sauce and instead, putting it separate in dish (it was also generous in portion)<br/><br/>☆Not so good:<br/>- N/A<br/><br/>Overall, a nice warm place in Fitzroy/Brunswick area with super friendly staff and good food options at reasonable price :)<br/><br/><br/>

Such a wonderful venue, located ideally on Brunswick street. Plenty of seating (upstairs and downstairs) with beautiful lighting and outdoor seating for those warmer days. We were treated to a delicious feast of items from the new menu and were not disappointed in the slightest. We had the portobello mushroom burger, vegan penne, hotcakes topped with fairy floss & the French toast all of which were beautifully presented and delicious. <br/>The staff were lovely and attentive, we were placed upstairs in a booth with beautiful natural lighting and plenty of space. It was a colder day so sitting near the open fireplace was lovely & made for a snuggly lunchtime spread. <br/>Will definitely be back again !

Delicious food, friendly and attentive service, what more could you ask for? I always enjoy coming here. The cafe is always bustling, giving off a great vibe. Have come here for both breakfast and lunch, and both times the food were tasty.

Great venue in a wonderful location. My party had brunch with juice and coffees. All very reasonably priced. Staff were wonderful and whilst there was an error with the order - this was noticed by the waitress who took the order and resolved prior to arriving at our table. <br/><br/>Food was delicious and venue being in trendy Brunswick St still allows the non trendy types in. 😉

This is a nice little cafe that feels like a bar when you walk in. The food was quite delicious. We had the baked eggs and the Fitz big breakfast. <br/><br/>Everything was cooked well and the service as really good as well.<br/><br/>I am not a coffee drinker but my wife is and she spoke extremely highly of the coffee (she is a bit of a coffee snob)!

Food is good, we ordered the french toast and had coffee as well. Service is not so good though, waitstaff seemed unhappy we were sharing a meal (we were resto hopping) and they didn't seem accomodating unlike othere restaurants we went to at Fitzroy.

<br/>Ever heard the saying, ‘don’t try to FIT in, when you were born to stand out’?<br/><br/>Well, the FITZ is living proof why this is so. They don’t even try to fit in, they just stand out! For all the right reasons. Being a longstanding café/eatery on a strip renowned for its bohemian cafes, bars, and restaurants; the Fitz holds its head high in Fitzroy.<br/><br/>Not only is it located in Melbourne’s first suburb, but it lives in a gorgeous Edwardian style building.  It’s hard to miss as you travel down Brunswick Street. Much like this Coconut Panna Cotta, with fresh berries and Brandy nuts; which is hard to miss, and resist!<br/><br/>-- <br/><br/>

Small restaurant with nice staff, I had the popcorn chicken and salt and pepper squid as well as a strong latte. Both nice meals, I’d definitely come back again.

Nice place, beautiful food and good recommendations. They provided a great service and so attentive. Especially the British waiter. We will definitely come back.

The Fritz Fritters were awesome. Kale, corn and zucchini fritters with bacon, avocado and poached egg. It’s a nice chill place on Brunswick St.

Absolutely loved the Bottomless Brunch at The Fitz - delicious food, amazing drinks and top service! They have a great variety of options available to choose from but if you’re feeling fickle, definitely try the Breakkie board so you can try a little of everything.
@foodtom
Wow! $40 Boozy Brunch! I had an incredible meal here with the crew and I have to say the service staff here was incredible! Not only that but $40 includes cocktails and a meal? That’s unbeatable value. Thanks so much, guys!

We came into the Fitz for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the newly renovated venue! The brunch menu was extensive and for 40 bucks per head for a bottomless brunch , I think I had found the bargain of the century. The drinks variety is quite good ranging from bloody Marys to espresso martinis.<br/><br/> I ordered the pesto benedict, and was also able to try the baked eggs and the smashed avo. The pesto benedict was really nice, I loved the dukkah on the side, eggs were poached perfectly .<br/><br/>The smash avo was also delicious, very fresh , I loved the addition of the asparagus ! <br/><br/>The baked eggs had a lot of flavour in the base of the sauce, the eggs were cooked to perfection , still gooey in the inside ! Wish it was more spicy tho <br/><br/>The outdoor area we sat in provided a beautiful Sunday arvo atmosphere , the only negative is that it is under a tree, many of us got bird poop on us ☹ , hopefully they can do something about this in the future <br/><br/>Thanks for having us !

If there two things I love in life, it's booze & brunch. The Fitz does the bargain of the century with a $40 bottomless brunch. Choose 1 dish but get all you can drink for 2 hours. And they don't stinge on the drinks, I'm talking espresso martinis, mimosas, spritz and the usual suspects. <br/><br/>I tried everything in the pictures but I actually ordered the breakfast board. I got over protective of my board because it was that good I didn't want to share with the seagulls, aka friends, on my table. The Mexican beans with chorizo on the brekky board is so memorable, I'll be back soon to get it. Loved it.

The Fitz looks kind of flash since the last time I dined here. A new owner and a freshen up has certainly lifted this Brunswick street institution. Today a group of us tried out the $40 Boozy Brunch that has just recently been launched. This enables participants to choose a brunch menu item from the menu as well as a bottomless hour and half of cocktail fun. Stella value if you ask me.<br/><br/>The cocktails available at the boozy brunch were <br/>Mimosa, Bloody Mary, Aperol Spritz, or Espresso Martini plus Beer and Prosecco. I alternated between Espresso Martini and Aperol which I am now officially a fan of (about 3 years after everyone else it seems). tell you what the food was a delight and those cocktails kept coming. For mains I tried the Nutella pancakes which were absolutely my favourite. The French toast was also very good. I was impressed that the breakfast board option included a panna cotta and was overall a generous serve. <br/><br/>Boozy Brunches occur Fridays through Sundays from 10am - 4pm and are either held in the outside area or upstairs. Well recommended.

Great service. Love the feel and the look of the place. The menu is great as well, lots of options and great ones. Two of my friends ordered from the specials , had the duck confit and the rump fillet and they both loved the food. My other friend and I tried the duck from the menu which was delicious but It wasn’t clear that it was a duck pasta and we both didn’t want pasta so if there is a way to make that clear would be good. He was on a keto diet so had to get the fish of the day which was nicely grilled but the tar tar sauce that came with it wasn’t great. <br/>Also the rooftop bar on the top is an added bonus for drinks and board games after dinner, it’s quite pretty up there. <br/>It could be a great date night to combine both.

Been here a couple of times. Food and variety of drinks are amazing. Coffee is delicious every time. The chicken mushroom pie is crazy good, only thing better than the pie would be the impeccable table service. Staff is always ready to help with a smile on their face!

On Sunday we headed down to The Fitz with a bunch of foodie friends to see what all the hype was about. They're now doing a $40 boozy brunches which includes a dish from their comprehensive brunch menu plus BOTTOMLESS COCKTAILS Such amazing value!<br/><br/>Everything we tasted was absolute quality and we think this would be a fabulous way to celebrate a special occasion.<br/>You can sit out in their shaded courtyard or head up to the rooftop where you'll find cosy booths and an outdoor garden with a view! The staff were all really friendly and were loved the interior which has recently been renovated.
Good Food Good Mood
I had a wow of a time as a guest of The Fitz today to check out their bottomless brunch. It really is the greatest value going around $40 for 1.5 hours of drinking from a pretty decent list of options and a delicious meal included.<br/><br/>The venue here is a bit of an institution and has been given a slight makeover in recent times to freshen it up. An ideal location and super friendly staff makes this the perfect venue for events such as bridal showers or birthdays. It’s certainly the most affordable bottomless brunch option I’ve ever encountered.<br/><br/>Food wise I selected the Nutella pancakes which was a stellar choice, they were utterly delicious. The French toast ordered by my dining companion was also a stunning dish although I preferred the Nutella. I would have liked to have tried the coconut panna cotta too so will keep that in mind for next time
Bigmelbappetite
Check out this breakfast board courtesy of The Fitz! I love having a wide array of breakfast options so I don’t have to choose! 😂 and I’m loving this twist on a chilli scramble with sambal. Taking this dish new heights! I also heard it through the grapevine that they’re also doing boozy brunches and I am so ready! 🥂

Absolutely love it here. The food has always been amazing but recently the coffee was changed and it is just so good!<br/><br/>The ambience is great and staff are so friendly. <br/><br/>Will keep coming back!

What a shame - an absolute shame. <br/><br/>15 year customer and absolute endorser of this institution who went for breakfast yesterday. <br/><br/>Stay away unless you like being ignored and patronised by the staff three. <br/><br/>Food is ok but when there are so many other options around why put up with lack of care. <br/><br/>Fire was smoking the place out, door was open and blowing a gale in between. Courtney was very attentive to her Facebook page - not so interested in customers<br/><br/>Destined for failure unless new owner actually turns up and sees what is going on early in the morning.

I think I love the building and ambience about this place more than the food. The food is quite average but the service is efficient. It's still a nice place to go.

Had the 2 for 1 special on a Tuesday night we had the Salmon Rosti and Calamari for mains both delicious the potato rosti with the salmon is pretty thick but still nice. Creme brûlée & Nutella brownie smash for desert also both great would definitely recommend
Mat’s Munchies
I ordered the Japanese Salmon Noodle Salad that involves Chargrilled Salmon Skewers served on Tea Noodles with Nori, Julienne Carrots, Avocado, Coriander, Spring Onion and Sesame & Miso Mayo. Tasty, strong wasabi flavor even though it’s not in the description of the dish which was strange. Would order again if someone else was paying, $21 is way too expensive for this, classic Fitzroy tax.
Canuck In Oz
Friendly service and great food at a good price. The Fitz staff is always smiling and Mil ensures that the quality is fitting. Scrambled eggs on today with coffee is $14.
Nat
Looks better than it tasted. Steak was over done and flavorless. No seasoning. Rosti under the salmon was really just a balls of fried potato and the ‘beef’ salad had about 5 pieces of also flovourless beef. Drinks menu is also quite limited. Many other better venues in the area.

To be honest we should have left when they didn't have our booking! We were there with seven people for a low key family dinner. we ordered a bottle of bubbles which we had to then swap for something else as they were out of stock . The waiter seemed to have no idea and bought us wine glasses not flutes. On request these were swapped. <br/>The starter was nice and reasonable value at 5 starters for $35 dollars. We all ordered mains with 3 people opting for the special seafood linguini and whilst it did say it had chilli in it the amount made it almost uneatable. The seafood taco came with three small pieces of battered fish and minute dishes of additive underwhelming for the price. The crab burger was fried to oblivion and quite unsavoury. The duck pasta was just weird incredibly sweet fusion of asian and italian that just didn't work.<br/>The staff they all seemed like they were on their first night! We think we had 5 people serve us at different times!<br/>Overall a disappointing night and I couldn't recommend this place. Strange having read the other reviews they were all positive!  Cost $320 not cheap!
Noah
sometimes come here for a coffee and breakfast. always good quality. See their sign for 2 for 1 on Tuesday and Thursday. should  come and try their dinner next time.
Alex Butenko
Nice food for a super reasonable price given the 2-for-1 deals on Tuesdays and Thursdays! We didn’t have a great experience service-wise, our bill was wrong and when it was corrected we actually got charged more cause neither us or the new girl realised that it was 2-for-1 with the more expensive meal to be paid for per table, not per a couple (which was how we ordered 🤦🏼‍♀️). Fair enough, our bad, but the other waitress/manager handled the situation very poorly. Also we ordered a beer that never came... Apart from that - would come back for more simple and tasty pub food 👌🏻

The Fitz has been consistently good under the same ownership for over 20 years. Had the pesto eggs benedict and a share plate of Peking duck, calamari and croquettes. All very good and great coffee aswell. Very reasonably priced
