Review The Vegie Bar - Fitzroy

Mary Q
Loved the menu, its really refreshing to see items that are good for your gut. The mushroom taco and the chicken Bao was really good but the salad and the noodles were a let down. Noodles were too oily Good vibe Would come here again

Fantastic place, wanted to go to a veg/vegan restaurant to expand our horizons, and for a dear friend that is vegan. The service staff were funny and friendly, many yummy things to try, stand out was the mushroom taco, it was hard choosing something to eat. Grabbed dessert next door, made our own sundae, they warmed up the brownie and we got a scoop of biscoff ice cream on top, perfect way to end the night. You’ll always find paid parking on the street, best part about the area.

First of all I probably need to say I think I’ve been coming here for about 20 years. How is that even possible?? As per the last several years when ever I eat here which isn’t frequent at all I always get the burrito. It was delicious and very filling surprisingly. But from memory that always happens. My friend and I were out for lunch for both of our birthdays. Jewelz My friend has lots of food requirements. She was pretty excited to be able to order a gluten-free dairy free vegan barbecue ‘chicken’ pizza. It was a really good size and looked delicious. We’ve had a full day of sightseeing in our home city Melbourne So we were hungry. We had my puppy with me so we sat out the front but it was sunny and they had nice umbrellas up. The waiter was extremely friendly with a cool accent and just the right amount of flirtatious chatter. We also had the berry smoothie and it was the most delicious drink I’ve had this year. The toilets were small but clean and tidy as always. I love that this place is in its original location and still serving up the goods, I just wish I could’ve fitted in one of those deserts. Next time! Veggie bar please don’t go anywhere you’re like a warm big hug for me after the last few years here in Melbourne. Thank you!

Great place! We loved how many options they offer, with a wide variety of styles. Most dishes are well balanced and nutritious and the desserts are amazing. All vegan!

Got there early so we are still able to get a table without waiting in a long queue. Vegie Bar has always been very well known and good however 3 out of 5 dishes we ordered this afternoon do not seem to be up to the Vegie Bar standard. Vietnamese Noodle Salad, the noodle is not cooked and no extra Nuoc Nam sauce is given on the side. Mee Goreng with peanut sauce? Yaki Udon seems like the wrong type of udon is used.

Cheeseburger pizza on a gluten free base - the yummiest pizza I've had in a while! The mushroom tacos are our fave staple when we are here. Love the people too. Super friendly.

Amazing Vegan selection, clean and nice atmosphere. Very professional and attentive staff. Highly recommended the Korean Tofu Burger! (I added Sriracha to give a little bit more of a kick!)

You can never go wrong with a visit here. Even after so many years, Vegie bar is still producing insanely delicious food. The only thing I didn’t like - the coconut yogurt next to the burrito and the service (which was not friendly in anyway as it was almost like we were offending the waiter my friend was asking questions to).

Insta: melbfoodie_mark<br/>YT: MelbFoodieMark<br/>-<br/>Popular vegan restaurant in Fitzroy that offers a wide range of vegetarian dishes (btw, very VERY busy!) I tried their Moroccan Tajine and it tasted so goood. Rich flavour and a huge portion. Original Stirfry was also delicious with fresh vegetables and tofus :)

First time trying vegan food 🌱 and it definitely impressed me. Never knew vegan food could taste this good. My friend is a regular here & he absolutely loves it.<br/><br/>🗓 Visited in January 2019

My family and I used to love this place but tonight left us feeling quite disappointed. Vegie bar is not what it used to be, the food is tasteless and the staff are rude and not engaging. It used to be so good and we have left wondering what happened to this place ...
ARMANEATS
Have been here many times over the years and is an institution of Melbourne. Vegetarians and vegans should not miss this place. The menu is also very worldly and delicious. Always very happening and sometimes you will have to wait for 10 mind or so, but worth it. Their desserts are also amazing. Recently I did notice some changes but still love this place!

I loved absolutely everything because I’m a massive Flamer vegan! 🌈👬🤩

With over 4700 reviews you can tell Vegie Bar is a Fitzroy institution. Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available. <br/>🍽 pumpkin split pea Dahl - delicious and as good as Dahl sold at any Indian restaurant. Love the sides they came with the dish. Florida chicken burger (vegan) - you can tell it’s not chicken but it comes very close. Nice condiments on the burger. Margherita pizza (+ mushrooms) - very nice, however, the vegan mozzarella didn’t have the same cheese pull that I was after. Pizza Bianca - nice, crispy base. Only criticism was that it was heavily topped with garlic. I love garlic so I wasn’t complaining, just perhaps a little less garlic would be nice. <br/>💁‍♀️ service was very good considering it was a busy Friday night.

Great steak. Cooked to perfection.

Vegie Bar is the type of place your meat-eating boyfriend recommends. I convinced him to try it a few years back and now he is the one to suggest it to me. <br/><br/>I've loved everything on the menu that I have tried so far - the satay rice balls are my go-to entree and I love their pizza's. <br/><br/>My partner usually goes for a burger, or in this case, the souvlaki special. It was so delicious! Did not miss the meat in this dish. Highly recommend.<br/><br/>Their Vegan Big Mac is also a must.

We got the specials on the menu; carbonara and pesto pasta with a sweet iced tea and were pleasantly surprised with the specials menu! Love coming here on a semi-regular basis as they’re reliable, consistent and tasty.

This place has over 4000 reviews for a reason, it’s the best! <br/>I’ve been coming to the Vegie Bar for 10 years and I have yet to be served a bad meal. This place nails it every time. This has to be one of Fitzroy’s best restaurants, if not THE best! Today I ordered the Pad Se Ew noodle dish which was, you guessed it AMAZING!! I order this dish at almost every Thai restaurant I go to and the Vegie Bar even managed to beat authentic Thai restaurants at their own cuisine. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Do yourself a favour and get down to the Vegie bar if you haven’t already done so!!

Food is good but service terrible.<br/><br/>Always delicious food, and lots of options for whatever you feel like. I have been going here for over a decade for the vegan food. I will say every time I have been here the service does lack a little and I'm always left feeling like I am bothering the staff which is an unpleasant experience. Its very attitudey & rude. <br/><br/>My partner is super friendly & they were even rude to her for no reason at all! We didnt ask for anything other than ordering our meal but were treated so rudely tonight. It has been both of our experience here, over the years. I dont know if we will keep coming back. Especially now there are so many other vegan options around.

The Vegie Bar is one of my all time favourite restaurants for so many reasons!<br/><br/>The concept and idea behind this place is awesome- everhthing is either gluten free or bio dynamic and everything on the menu is vegan! Every dish is packed with so many textures and flavours, no matter how many time we visit it never gets old!<br/><br/>The staff are always so friendly and the vibe in this place is so energetic yet relaxed, it’s amazing. We had their hemp gnocchi and their mee goreng and of course a side of sweet potato fries and we defiantly left very full and satisfied with our experience.<br/><br/>The Vegie Bar is a must try place if you’re ever around Brunswick and if you’re not, it’s defiantly worth the drive!

I remember Vegie Bar being an absolute institution in Fitzroy, the place to have vegetarian food. But in a recent visit, I've realised that the quality of the food simply isn't up to scratch relative to Melbourne Standards. The pasta and (veg) meatballs was very average, the pasta store bought and the meatballs a bit crumbly and dry. The jackfruit tacos were also very average, I was expecting a nice pulled pork like texture for the jackfruit but they'd been deep fried and it was honestly only alright.<br/><br/>I'd been expecting better from Vegie Bar, it's still a Melbourne institution and popular with the locals, but I don't think I'll be going back.
AngeLuvFood8
My Rating: 3.5<br/><br/>I havn't been back here in the longest time (I'd say over 4 years)!  The only reason I thought to visit again was because a friend was visiting from interstate and she's Vegetarian. I thought The Vegie Bar would a good place for her to enjoy a full menu of options suited to her.<br/><br/>🔆LOCATION🔆<br/>The Vegie Bar is situated on the busy and popular Brunswick Street. The premise is a corner building establishment which also extends to the shop next door which is their 'Take-Away' shop, so don't get confused when you arrive but you will soon enough work out which is the Dine-in restaurant and take-away.<br/><br/>As you walk in you pretty much walk right into the main dining area. To the right there is another entry way next door to more seating area.  Towards the back upstairs there are bigger tables for larger group bookings.<br/><br/>🔆SERVICE🔆<br/>I arrived early at 6pm so I could get a table without having to wait, as I remember the last time I came here the wait was quite long for a table. And as I remembered back then it was such a popular restaurant always packed and tonight years later it is no exception. At 6pm, the restaurant was already at 70% capacity.  My friend arrived at 6.20pm and by that stage it was already at 85% capacity and this was on a Friday night, wow! <br/><br/>Staff was very friendly and during my wait for my friend - every so often I get asked if I wanted to order anything.  Food came out quite promptly and fast which I was quite impressed seeing the restaurant was quite busy.<br/><br/>🔆MENU/PRICE🔆 <br/>As my friend had a really late lunch, she wasnt able to have a full meal for dinner which was disappointing as I specifically chose this restaurant for her to enjoy. <br/><br/>SAMOSA, $6.00 each<br/>(A traditional Indian pastry filled with mild vegetable curry, served with coconut tsatsiki & fresh chilli sauce. 1 per serve)<br/><br/>MOROCCAN TAJINE,  $19.00<br/>(Moroccan-style tomato, chickpea and butternut pumpkin stew served with roasted cauliflower, currant & almond couscous, coconut tzatziki, cucumber salad, hazelnut dukkha & fresh herbs. Served with warm pita bread)<br/><br/>CHOC FUDGE SUNDAE, $12.00<br/>(Freshly made choc-hazelnut gelato with fudge sauce, crushed nuts & fudgy bits, served in a waffle basket).<br/><br/>🔆VERDICT🔆<br/><br/>My friend ordered 2 samosa. Interestingly enough my friend is Indian so I was keen to find out from her what she thought of the samosa. She said the pastry was nice, but texture was a bit hard. The flavours of the curry was too mild for her liking but overall it wasnt a bad dish. She found the coconut tsatsiki to be quite interesting and different.<br/><br/>My friend also ordered dessert, She is a huge chocolate dessert fan and no suprise she went for the Choc fudge sundae.  The serving was quite large and she was unable to finish it. Unfortunately the gelato was melting quite fast which was disappointing which also contributed to her to not being able to enjoy and finish it. The flavour of the chocolate hazelnut gelato was good not too sweet but didnt really require the fudge sauce which in the end made the whole dessert sweet. If there was something else to counter-balance it would have been nice. The waffle basket was a really nice added touch to the overall dessert and presentation.<br/> <br/><br/>I ordered the Moroccan Tajine and to my surpise it was a massive serving, which I was quite impressed since it only costed $19.00.  I really loved the butternut pumpkin stew, it was so creamy and full of flavour, the added crunch from the roasted cauliflower is good texture.  There was way too much of the currant and almond couscous, and I felt they could have taken out the currants because it was too sweet.  I really loved the coconut tzatziki and cucumber salad as it was fresh and light. I only had 1 piece of the pita bread as it was too filling for me. The pita bread came out warm which was nice, but as I didnt immediately eat it once cold it was a bit hard which wasnt enjoyable.<br/>Overall it was a nice evening.

I was really looking forward to eating here as I fondly remembered it from days of old. I was sadly disappointed. My mushroom burger was dry and greasy. It consisted of a slimy mushroom and greasy deep fried tofu, wilted rocket and the tiniest amount of pickled cabbage (the only flavoursome item) on a bun. No sauce to accompany the sweet potato chips. I asked for satay sauce, which cost extra and didn't help.<br/><br/>I would have talked to the waitress about this, but she nicked put to get herself a coffee and no one else took an interest in me though I was clearly not enjoying my dinner.

Surprise visit to Vegie Bar expecting good things due to high Zomato rating but the experience was anything but. Ordered the Pad See Ew, emphasis on the Ew. Basically what you get is half noodles then half bean sprouts. For $20, they sure know how to make a profit margin. Flavour wasn’t great, bland and received the driest lime ever. Not worth a photo. To top it off friend who got the udon received the same thing in terms of bean sprouts and another friend received the wrong order. Talk about shit food and service. If you like your bean sprouts visit this place but if you want actual vegan food, would look at the multiple other options around the area.

Best veggie place in Melbourne. If you haven't been, you're kidding yourself. Simply greens is a MUST. And the Choc Royale... oh my word it is phenom

Wow! I never knew vegan food could taste so good. Pricey but a delicious menu. The menu has a few Mexican and Asian inspired options, as well as burgers and pizzas. I love the burgers, they were really delicious. The other items on the menu was very flavourful and some were spicy. <br/>After your meal, you can enjoy some raw and vegan desserts. <br/>There is a takeaway bar next door, if you want a quicker service or to avoid the long wait.

My family and I have been here many times for many years. We come here every year for my birthday dinner and it is such a treat. My favourite meal is the Pad See Ew and the drink I always get is the Invigorator.
CJ Helena
Staff was friendly, welcoming and attentive, and the food we had was delicious. We ordered a few vegan pizzas that tasted really great.<br/>I'd say the pricing is what you'd expect in Fitzroy, but not too over priced. Would come back here for sure!
Melbourne Vegan Foodie
Incredible menu, service was a little slow but food incredible! So many vegan options, obviously! 🙏🏻 def one of my faves north side! If you’re over that way.

Yum!! I would love to rate this place a 4.5! :) I’m not a vegetarian or vegan but after last night I can say I’ll definitely do more vegan restaurants more now! This place was warm, cozy and relaxing! The waitresses not so much because they weren’t so friendly however the food was enormous and full of flavours! The starter for $16 was a bit of a rip off too :/ other than that, perfecto!!
Foodadventureswithliv
came to Vegie Bar on Queen’s birthday public holiday and we had a delicious feast! <br/><br/>we tried a few dishes from the menu, my favourite would have to be the sweet potato fries and the original stir fry, all dishes were so yummy and full of good flavours! i also really REALLY loved the sticky date pudding! there were heaps of options for everyone one the menu, i am coeliac so it was nice to have heaps of options. <br/><br/>service was friendly and reasonably quick for a public holiday and food was delicious!

Realllyyy cute place and it’s quite tasty. It was the first restaurant I went to that was vegetarian and I was amazed by how good it was considering I eat meat on the daily. I got the Buddha bowl which wasn’t that good but my friends got the mee goreng and the pad see ew which ended being soo good. I’m asian and I eat these things often but this ended up being better than I expected. I highly recommend if you want to try a vegetarian restaurant. This was also right next to a vegan gelato shop which was great!
Your Average Consumer
Ordered curry and the Big Mac, Curry was good just had an issue with the burger. Cheap untoasted bun and a rather flavourless party. Wouldn’t recommend the burger to a friend.
Sarah
Such a great place to get a yummy and healthy meal! The restaurant has a great vibe and the food is fantastic. There was also great service to match, will be returning!
Bites Of Melbourne
Good food with great menu options <br/>Good service <br/>Great even if you are not vegetarian <br/>Everyone was happy with Meals <br/>No complaints <br/>Will visit again

used to love this place but it has really gone down. <br/>Staff did not smile, very cold and detracted from what could have been a really funky vibe. <br/>The pizza’s, which I used to love, are now oily oily oily and devoid of any unique flavours - think bland veggies on oily focaccia. <br/>Really disappointing considering what an institution this place once was.
Lemonloverr
A great place in a great location. Absolutely loved the vegan pizzas and the sweet potato fries. Can get quite busy at peak lunch hour, so service can be a little slow, but a great place nonetheless!
Carly P
We ordered a pizza and it was delicious. I have mixed feelings about veggie bar.. the place was very understaffed, the poor waitress was flying around and not able to help with options and requests. I wanted chilli sauce but she didn’t come back to the table.. I stood at the counter but wasn’t served and then I sat back down thinking one of the staff would have seen me standing there and approach me but they did not.. it was just annoying basically. Also $4 extra for gluten free base and another $2 for a small amount of rocket on top which I feel should just come on the pizza.. also 20% surcharge. like get a grip if you’re gonna charge 20% at least have the staff to make up for it.
Caroline
Not a fan of their mains but would visit here for their cakes and drinks. They also have outside terrace area which has nice ambiance when you come at night time.
Hetang Prajapati
My first ever pure vegie restaurant visit. Classic vegetarian options!! You can feed your tummy with a great satisfaction. The place is so happening. Love the environment there.
Akio Otsuka
Great restaurant! you can not make reservation, but<br/>you can use bar area while you are waiting.<br/>I had vegie bao which comes w Tofu and Kimuchi, that was very yammy!
Good Food Good Mood
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve ventured to Vegie Bar and I simply couldn’t believe the rudeness of the staff. I kind of thought those that do good for the environment would lean to the friendlier side but my goodness I’ve never felt so uncomfortable with how I’ve been spoken to by a waiter. <br/><br/>I have to say it honestly put me off my food and I simply ordered a chai and hubby a juice ($11 for a juice WOW). I didn’t really enjoy my chai but that’s possibly my fault as when they listed all the milk options I chose coconut and that may have altered the flavour. <br/><br/>Others at the table had mixed feelings my sister loathed her duck wrap but mum enjoyed her mee goreng and the laksa and rice balls proved popular too. As I didn’t try those dishes I have to score on my experience which was frankly quite unpleasant <br/><br/>Original review<br/>Vegie bar scene of where I first got massively into bee pollen smoothies (I LOVE a health fad). I've also tied a probiotic gut shot which is actually not as bad as it sounds. A great atmosphere denotes a lengthy line as carnivores and herbivores alike flock to this grungy but modern establishment. <br/><br/>Perfectly located on Brunswick street aka hipster heartland they are catering to the locals with their innovative vegan, gluten free and/or raw menu. I tend to go for the pizzas but the mee goreng is pretty tasty too. Great venue for meat free Monday and they have a killer collection of raw desserts too
Whalesfoodadventure
Love this place! Exceptional service and food. Got the supergreens pizza, mushroom pizza and big mac burgers. It does taste like a big mac for vegans/ vegetarians. Abitodd tho we can not take away if we dont finish the pizza
Annelise Van Rooye
Super cute industrial warehouse with a warm and cosy atmosphere and always the most delicious and diverse range of vegan food! Looking at the menu it’s so hard to choose between pizzas, salads, smoothie bowls, entrees, sweet treats and even Big Mac style burgers! I opted for two entrees (that way you get to try two things 😜) - the Rice Balls and the Crispy Tofu slider - and they were heavenly! The Rice balls were crispy Arancini with soft fluffy rice fillings and a sauce that reminded me of butter chicken Indian and the bao slider was even better! Soft, pillowy bun with crispy tofu and a mayo with a teensy bit of kick. Everything was incredible - definitely recommend a visit!
Patrickcoville
Must have ordered the wrong dish-Laksa- because seriously half a can of coconut milk luke warm with a few soy bean and 2 Pieces of Tofu for $19 is it in my book close to being robbed. Was on the front section not the back. I live on Rose street and will have to find alternative places to satisfactory eating somewhere else.
Feisty__Food
You will never have a bad meal at Vegie Bar!<br/><br/>I've headed to the trendy restaurant countless of times for dinner, and have never left feeling anything but impressed.<br/><br/>On my most recent visit I got the "Channa Dahl" which had the most fantastic flavours to it. I especially loved the coconut tzatziki to balance the spice of the dahl. My friend got the "Soba Noodle Bowl" and was also very content with her meal.<br/><br/>After Vegie Bar, a visit to Girls & Boys next door is a must for some vegan ice cream!
Fike
Lovely food! Place is always busy (no surprise as they offer great yummy food!) definitely will come back for more 😊<br/>I had masaman curry and my friend had pad siew; and they were delicious!
Archana Patel
I have been coming here for 12 years. Sadly too vegan now, I would suggest vegetarian with a vegan option. The menu has downsized too. The vibe is still great.
Dephialis
I ordered the Mexican burrito, which came with a massive burrito stuffed with black beans, onions, spring onions and brown rice, and on the side there was guacamole, vegan cream and corn chips. It was so filling and delicious! Made fresh.
WhenFoodMeetsFiona
Ordered: <br/>- Margherita pizza<br/>- Better than Big Mac burger<br/><br/>Pizza. Toppings were moist and didn’t stick to the dough. Overall, average dish.<br/><br/>Burger. Moist pattie, good sauce but would’ve been better if the cheese had melted a little bit. Overall, quite enjoyable burgers.
Aidan Moriarty
Loved the food here was super delicious and so filling. Highly recommend the fake chicken nugget pizza it’s tasted exactly like real chicken. Also loved the vibe of the place!! Can’t wait to go again
That Vegan Dad
Great joint with an amazing range of burgers and sides. Plenty of flavour and would satisfy almost any omni friend! Haha definitely would recommend if you’re in the area and after a quick and easy bite

A friend and I went to the Vegie Bar around lunchtime on a reasonably busy Friday. We both ordered the Massaman Curry which is described as vegetables in “a creamy Thai curry sauce, topped with crushed peanuts & fresh coriander. Served with brown rice & paratha bread.” I was suspicious when the meal arrived very quickly. How do you prepare such a meal, with brown rice, so quickly? The answer is, you heat up last night’s leftovers, plop them on 2 plates, throw the only fresh ingredient, some coriander, on top and serve. The result was salty, over cooked slops with lukewarm, old brown rice. I’ve been to the Vegie Bar a few times and this was by far the worst experience - the meal was an insult. The place is doing good business and as can happen when a restaurant is busy, the staff cut corners and get sloppy; unfortunately, the Vegie Bar is getting slack and the quality is dropping. The crowds will ultimately drop off and the place will fold unless the quality issues are addressed. In March, I’ve got a couple of vegetarian friends visiting from New York and the Vegie Bar was on my list to take them for a meal but no way would I risk it now. Hopefully the owners recognise the problems and begin rectifying them.

I love coming to veggie bar. Every meal I’ve had here had turned out to be excellent. Even the pizzas! Try their chocolate Royale and gluten free brownie with vegan ice cream. All really good ! Staff are also very friendly
Cavendish
Super busy place on a weeknight. We were lucky to grab a table outside on a warm and breezy summer night. Inside was jam packed and pretty loud but courtyard was more chill and spacious. Food was pretty good, didn’t miss meat too much, and we all ordered to share. Highlights were the steamed tofu sliders (super flavourful and textural), tempura onion rings, the sung choi bao and the supreme green pizza. Mee goreng has good flavours but was a bit stodgy so wouldn’t order it again. Service was friendly and we didn’t have to wait too long. Would return!
Aimee Joseph
Really good experience! Our starter took quite a while to come out to us and as soon as I alerted the staff to the wait we received the meal instantly and they were very apologetic. Great food, good vibes 👍
AG
After being sat down on a table, waitresses completely forgot about us and did not even acknowledge us as well when coming around to the other tables near us. Waited for 15 mins then left as no one took our orders. Absolutely disappointing customer service.
Clairesy6
Fantastic menu variety. So much to choose from I’m sure anyone could find something to their fancy however the execution of the dishes just wasn’t up there with veggie bar’s 4.5 star rating. I chose the Moroccan tagine. The tagine has a lovely deep flavour however some of the chickpeas were undercooked and slightly hard still. The accompanying cous cous was fairly bland and one side of it seemed to be doused in lemon juice. I liked the accompanying flat bread. My friends also weren’t completely wrapped with their meals they found the green bowl quite dry (could have done with sauce) and the laksa average.
Addicted To Caffeine
The food was decent, nothing bad to say about it. Heaps and heaps of vegetarian and vegan options. Super cramped, but then again it's a super busy place! The staff were really friendly and service was great, regardless of the massive amount of people.
Dani R
The only vegetarian place my boyfriend will go to. He loves that burrito! I usually have mostly greens, which is a yum and wholesome veggie stir fry. I had the satay stir fry last night instead and didn't enjoy it quite so much - needed more flavor.
Mason
We went to this place with my friends and had to wait for an hour for a table. You can’t book or leave your number but have to wait in a super crowded waiting area. I got laksa and it was pretty average. Other meals were pretty much the same as well. It’s also very loud inside and you have to yell to be able to hear each other.
Flic Wilson
Food was good but took nearly an hour to arrive. One item - a mango lassi - never came (turns out it wasn’t even added to the bill) and when my meal finally came, it was incorrect: I ordered massaman curry, not a Moroccan tagine. Staff need to step up their game.
Bill
Unless you’re LGBT or have green hair and piercings, they treat you like crap. But otherwise food is great. Had the vegan Big Mac. Always great and the vegan choc Royal cake. Yum! The guy taking our payment was so rude. No acknowledgment or anything.
Emily T
Very quirky and lively bar serving only vegetarian food with gluten free options. I tried the laksa which was so yummy!! A bit over the top with the bean sprouts and very little vermicelli noodles at the bottom but overall the soup was enjoyable. They also provide chopsticks which is handy for an asian!!
Anna Banana
I love this restaurant. Not only is the food all absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is warm, fun and welcoming. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Tricia
The best vegetarian/vegan place in Melbourne! Such a wide variety in foods from different cuisines. With the friendly service and quality food it’s hard not to come back and try something new.
Bronagh Gordon
Nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, amazing menu and food which was very quick. Only taking a star off because it was quite cramped inside.
Jesse (The Ghost)
This place. First day of summer. Currently 32 degrees and my sister is in the process of turning 31 years old. We gather here to celebrate her and wish her the happiest of days. I came early to treat myself to a cheeky coopers pale ale and man o man is it cheeky! Marvellous place. Beer 10/10 every time.
Reba Finn
I went here a long time ago with family <br/>Very noisy restaurant <br/>Crowded as well <br/>Very difficult to talk and hear your conversation <br/>Difficult to order <br/>Even though it is vegetarian, I struggled because of my fructose malabsorption issue, everything had onion or garlic or wheat - oh well 😔
Ebmrs
Very nice vegan dishes and very big portions! I fell in love with the sweet potato fries. However, The prices are a little high. The service is good. I loved the interior decoration.<br/>
Savvy And Lifestyle
Very nice setting with a wonderful atmosphere located in the chart of Fitzroy. I really love their vegan menu so many options I just wanted everything they offer such an extensive range, had the temporoni pizza my gosh it was devine. Will definitely be back.
The Dear Luncher
"...and you may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?"<br/><br/>The Dear Luncher somehow found himself in a place that does not serve meat. It was a strange feeling. Standing out like a sore thumb, it was almost as though the people here knew there was an imposter in their midst.<br/><br/>So what do you order if you're a mad meat eater in a place like this? The vegan burger that is modelled on a McDonald's burger of course. The "better than a Big Mac" burger is two non-beef patties, special sauce, iceberg lettuce, vegan cheese (lol wot), onions and pickles on some kind of brioche bun.<br/><br/>Truly wonderdous. It was a bit sloppier than your Macca's Big Mac, the vegan cheese was watery but delicious just the same.<br/><br/>Will The Dear Luncher become a vegan? Unlikely. But this place is good value, and deserves the high rating that it has.
Oodreiilittlepotato
Mushroom burger and smoked tofu & quinoa burger! The mushroom burger is good!! The deep fried organic tofu taste interesting and good at the same time. Onion ring —> tasty. Smoke tofu & quinoa burger is lovely.... higher point than the mushroom burger just because it suit my taste bud a bit better hehe
Michreviews
First time having vegan food, and I chose to have it on my birthday. Ordered the berry smoothie, mango lassi, sang choy bao (which was fantastic), laksa (unfortunately it tasted more like thai yellow curry), smoked tofu and red quinoa burger (nice but patty could be a little more salty, sweet potato fries were great without feeling oily). My first vegan experience definitely went well. Had gelato cone from Girls & Boys next door which was amazing.
Daniel Lasarow
Really great service, our waitress was super friendly and funny, the food options are really various, I really enjoy the better than the big mag options, and their brownie is amazing, will be back to try other dishes!
Sam.Sha
The food here is amazing, even meat eaters will love it. I love the hipster vibe of the ambience. It’s well set up and allows customers to wait at the bar when awaiting a table which really adds a positive value to the dining experience. Highly recommended
Spirited Stardust
Ordered take away.<br/>I grabbed a yummy peanut butter chocolate gf brownie and the gf bbq pizza - unfortunately the pizza was too spicy for me, if it didn’t have chilli I would have loved it (chilli makes me hiccup badly).
Cathy
This place has everything!<br/>I am yet to try their Girls & Boys gelato bar next door but the Vegie Bar alone has everything covered for you. From their bar menu, to starters, mains and uniquely selected desserts.<br/><br/>Our lovely catch-up was made even better by a warm, attentive staff. They recommended the riceballs and choy sung baos as starters (vegetarian nickname). But we changed our order last minute when we found out desserts!<br/><br/>We ordered the moroccan tajine ans vegetarian laksa. I really love the laksa. It's not too rich but also very tasty. Just the right amount of broth and lots of filling. The tajine has such a unique flavour to it, and the fact that it's veggie made it even better.<br/><br/>We chose the sticky date & pineapple and the berry cheesecake, which was so filling and delicious. I highly recommend the sticky date pudding. Adding a ring of pineapple on top was so creative and the caramel was so decadent *sing*🎶🎶🎶 Overall, would definitely revisit.<br/><br/>Food 4.5/5<br/>Service 4/5<br/>Ambience 3.5/5

Always amazing food. Even meat eaters are impressed with this place - every time!! Love that the burrito is still on the menu, after so many years!!

I've ordered both in store, and on Ubereats. Both times, the food was great; taste wise and portion size. They have a good variety of food, from salads to pizzas, burgers and dessert (if you're not set on visiting their sister store Girls & Boys). I think the prices are fair for the quality of food. My only recommendation is that the customer service could do with some improvement.

Decent vegetarian and vegan food for a decent price. Only thing is some dishes are dry and lack sauce etc such as their veg burgers. However they do have a variety of veg or vegan food and the atmosphere is very chic and chilled.

One of my favourite places to eat for a wide variety of vegan dishes. Very flavourful and a rotating menu keeps it interesting. Mood lighting makes it a nice dining experience.

One of Melbourne’s vegan must try’s, the last time I was here was over a year ago. I was excited to pop in again. Staff were kind enough to allow us to make our own alcoholic beverage - fresh oj with vodka. At only $11 a glass it was pretty cheap! I find the food rather overpriced, the chip serving presented with the burger laughable. My nachos were ok but required seasoning. It is a handy spot and good to take other vegan foodies too.

We ordered via uber tonight. 6 of The Best Samosa !!!! Crunchy pastry case. But not to ‘bready.’ Perfect curry goodness inside. Awesome dipping sauces. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻<br/><br/>

Busy vegan restaurant in the heart of Fitzroy. They serve a range of delicious vegan/ vegetarian dishes. I have tried their tasty Mee Gorang and Mushroom Burger and would definitely come back for more. They have regular booze too. Feeling healthy, but craving for some bubbly non-alcoholic drinks? A kumbucha is always a good one to go with your vegan meals. <br/><br/>They have some house rules that I found unusual but well... You can always secure your table and skip the queue by making a reservation - but cancellation and reduction in numbers will lead to extra charge of 24 dollars per head. Wow. I get why it applies to the cancellation but reduction in numbers too? That's a bit rough. They don't provide takeaway boxes too if you've order too much. Order what you can finish, I guess.

Exceeded expectations! Came in on a Saturday night and the place was really buzzing. Being a walk in venue for our group size, I was expecting a long wait for a table but was surprised at only having a short wait before being seated in the main area. The food was excellent, tasted great and was very reasonably priced. The place has a great atmosphere and would make for the perfect setting for a casual dinner out!

Waited about 30 minutes for meal but the food definitely made up for that. I would recommend the Dahl Bowl if you like Indian/Curry. Pricing for food is great :)

The minute you walk through the door at Vegie Bar you know you have made the right choice. It’s always very busy and full of people. <br/><br/>This was my second time at Vegie Bar and I couldn’t help but order the Better than a Big Mac again, even though I told myself that I was going to try something else this time around. <br/><br/>I really love the Better than a Big Mac! It had a lot more sauce than the last time I got it which was great. The amount of chips were a lot smaller though which may be better for my body but I would’ve preferred a bigger pile! Will definitely be back for another visit 💚

I had an excellent time dining here tonight. Let’s begin by saying that the staff was extremely wonderful and friendly. Although there was a bit of a wait, they directed us to the back bar and then not long after they came and got us to take us to the table. <br/><br/>We ordered the moroccan tajine, mee goreng, nacho bowl and sweet potato fried. We probably ordered a bit too much for three people however cannot deny the fact that the food was delicious. Moroccan tajine and the mee goreng were my favorites. The flavors of those dishes were extraordinary! It’s quite reasonably priced for the portion of food you get in the plate. <br/><br/>I had a wonderful time, and was pleasantly happy with the service, food and the atmosphere! I can definitely see why people rave about this place!

Situated in the heart of Fitzroy (and arguably the heart of the Melbourne vegetarian/vegan community), Vegie Bar has an extensive and thoroughly delicious selection of meals. As a non-vegetarian, I can happily report you won’t miss meat here! <br/><br/>The meals are large, hearty and have a somewhat homemade feel. The atmosphere is buzzing and always full (expect to wait for a table). <br/><br/>I ordered the pumpkin curry which included couscous, a delicious homemade pita bread, almonds, chick peas and an array of other amazing ingredients. My friend got the mi goreng which she said was good and so filling she couldn’t finish. <br/><br/>If you’re visiting Fitzroy, don’t miss this place!

I must admit that I had pretty high expectations because everyone vegan and non-vegan that I know of raves of Vegie Bar so I came in for lunch with a couple of mates, I was really hoping to try their pad thai but it wasn't on their menu anymore... opted for their version of baked eggs and can't say that I was really impressed at all.<br/>The baked bits were just full of chickpeas and sauce, I regret eating the eggs first as it would've offered more variety. Accompanying the dish was pieces of pita bread which was really good but got tiring to chew with the chickpeas by the end of it. I left my dish unfinished, my friend that had a burger said the patty was also just chickpea filled and my vegan friend that had the moroccan tajine said her stew was 80% chickpea and 20% pumpkin. Disappointing as I really wanted to be a part of the hype. Service was attentive though and the interior was a sight to see.

Took my vegan daughter here & the options are both vegan & non vegan & quite varied. I had the corn fritters as recommended by the waiter which were delicious & very filling. My daughter had the edamame burger with the lot & the onion rings were the best we’ve ever had. Great place.

Amazing pizza! Best pizza I’ve ever had-anywhere. <br/>Atmosphere was lovely and all the food looked so good. The sticky date was equally as amazing! I recommend everyone go here!!

Ordered laksa and a Mushroom burger, the food came quick and it was delicious and filling. It would be great if they dark hot chocolate.<br/>Staff was very friendly.
