Absolute staple. Amazing staff (always a great laugh - we love them!); dynamic fusion cooking and a wine and food menu that seamlessly transitions from day to night.
We were staying in an air b&b just up the road and Archie's quickly became our favourite local. Great coffee, fantastic food (best ever generous smashed avo) and the atmosphere was so inviting. We went back every day and had a breaky, lunch and dinner.
My go-to out of the Valley hideaway. Ace staff, and ace food. I drive over an hour to come here regularly.
Awesome everything! Loved the smiley staff! Try the Japanese eggs!!!!
We were in for breakfast on opening day. The place runs like a well oiled machine, with great staff and lovely vibe. Food is beautifully presented and tastes delicious. Wonderful coffee too! Watch this place, as it will become a very popular cafe in Fitzroy.
Very busy place but the service was outstanding & the food was amazing.
Gorgeous cafe with the best smashed avo I've ever had !
Always my favourite brunch in Melbourne when we visit! Amazing coffee and epic food!
Great coffee and food, highly recommend making the effort. Staff were friendly and on the ball.
Only been once to grab myself a warm chai on my way to work and wowee, it's the best damn chai I've had in a long time. Worth the $5.
Loved my Godmother breakfast & my perfect almond milk latte yesterday, I always look forward to returning to Archies All Day
Crispy Poached Eggs
The creaminess of the poaches eggs and sesame sauce, the freshness of the kimchi combining with the sourdough created a perfectly balanced dish. Smart use of the kimchi, a very refreshing combo.
Fried Chicken and Waffles
Absolutely loving this dish. The chicken was crispy, packed with flavour and the waffle was not too sugary. That chipotle butter elevated the whole dish, making it less stuffing.
Heard so much about Archie's all day during my years in Fitzroy and finally made a visit there. Went on a Monday lunch time and it was so busy, almost no seats available even they have got outside seating, indoor, booth and courtyard.
Staff are all pretty much hipster but very friendly and efficient. We ordered the chicken waffle and the Fish burger+cheese. They offered extra syrup for waffle so you can adjust how sweet it is to your like. My cold brew was so refreshing and light loved it! the only thing is (maybe because I am getting old) the music was quite loud and with very strong beats.. But I had a good meal there!
Such an amazing ricotta hotcake!! And especially to all my lemon lovers, this tart treat is for you!
FOOD: I ordered their famous beautiful Ricotta Hotcakes and they were spectacular! I’ve seen amazing pictures and heard amazing raves so I knew I HAD to go and I do not regret going at all! This was such a special ricotta hotcake because it brought in elements of - LEMON!! It tasted like the best lemon bar in the world but the hotcake... the texture of the hotcake was PHENOMENAL! It was one of the best because it hit the nail on the head of every aspect - fluffiness, pillowiness, chewiness!! The lemon custard went so well with the mascarpone which balanced all the flavours and it brought a dessert that wasn’t too sweet or too sour!! I loved every aspect of this hotcake dish and I would definitely put it as one of my top hotcakes ever!
SERVICE: Service was good!
Overall, I can see why Archie is completed packed at 9am on weekdays. WEEKDAYS!! Their food is as beautiful as their interior and I’ll definitely be returning to try more 🤤 Chicken and waffles ur next 🌚
I can understand why there is always a queue in front of Archie’s, it’s because the food and service is always of a certain quality! I have visited Archie’s twice this month, and I have not regretted it. Both times, I had the hot cakes with ricotta and they have not let me down. Would definitely recommend anybody who loves brunch to visit Archie’s!
A nice, bright cafe with really nice food, friendly staff and good coffee. I tried the crispy eggs with kimchi and edamame beans and the cauliflower/potato hash with mushrooms and really liked both. Recommend for a pleasant, uplifting meal.
Never eaten here because it's always packed but I did visit for a coffee. My oat flat white wasn't my favourite but was still above average. Space is a bit cramped but pleasant and service is nice.
Delicious late lunch! Ordered a tofu burger, cauliflower salad, glass of bubbles and Bloody Mary. All delicious! The burger was quite interesting in flavour lacked a bit of sauce but otherwise faultless.
Service was wonderful. So friendly and attentive even in such a busy setting.
Really liked the crispy poached eggs, very unique flavour with asian kimchi, will come back for it next time
Really like this place, the food and coffee were good specially the chicken waffle was amazing, great atmosphere. The service was pretty decent for a busy cafe.
We came across this place by accident as the place we were going to was full. This was also very busy but they sat us down immediately. The service was quick and wonderful even thoug it was so packed.
We had some the crispy poached eggs and the potato and cauliflower fritters. They were both amazing and that something special that you’re looking for. However the crispy poached eggs was out of this world. I have been telling all my friends about it and will definitely go back for it eventhough I always prefer to go somewhere new , I’m happy to have this place as a regular.
3.5 / 5
This cafe has been on our list for a really long time (of course, you guys are used to reading this cliche so many times but please bear with us 😆😆), and one fine day, braving Melbourne Cold morning we managed to reach here.
Crowded as hell, we had to wait for a table for almost 25 minutes, but after our meal, we could easily say that it was worth the wait for more pluses compared to the minus.
Ordered 2 Hot Chocolates and a Mocha which is light on Chocolate. The attendant was surprised by this weird request but she got the Mocha right, which means she got it just right...Isn't that an achievement? Yes it is!! Lol
Doughnut with Apple Crumble, Crumbed Rockling Fillet Burger, Crispy Poached Egg and a Roasted Chicken with Bacon Sandwich
Good things first:
Mocha and Hot Chocolate - Top Notch
Crumbed Rockling Fillet Burger - Perfectly crispy, juicy-luscious and beautiful salad dressing.
Crispy Poached Eggs : Orgasm on Plate.
Doughnut with Apple Crumble: Oohh La La!! Beautiful and Yum!! (Though tasted more like a banana crumble).
Both were easily the dishes of the day
Negative:
Roated Chicken with Bacon: No signs or hint (what was conveyed to us by the attendant when we asked the Attendant that there was no bacon in it) of Bacon, Dressing was underwhelming with no subtle flavor of Sage. (As seen in the picture) Felt like we were eating something tasteless, though the chicken was cooked to a perfection.
Deserves a 3 out of 5 for the negative..Especially when you are paying for something that you probably think weren't served well but the beverages and the rest of the food was definitely the stunners.
Service is effixient, kind and quick. Fewer options for Vegans and Vegetarians.
We went here during the week so there was no wait time, we got a seat outside as it was full inside. There were blankets on the chairs outside which I thought was a nice touch.
I ordered the riccotta hotcakes and my husband ordered the fish burger (no photo, but it looked delicious!). We also shared a plate of fries.
The hotcakes were amazing. As soon as I took the first bite i knew these were something special. The hotcakes were piping hot and the lemon curd, rice bubbles and meringue were great flavours and textures. 10/10
I had a bite of the fish burger, and it also tasted delicious. The bun was very sweet but i got a lot of flavours from the filling, i would love to try this as a meal next time.
Fries were perfectly cooked and the herbs were great addition. With the aoili it reminded us of eating garlic bread (aoili very garlicy!)
Definitely recommend eating here.
Decent brunch spot at the heart of Gertrude St in Fitzroy! There are many brunch spots nearby but Archie’s always buzzing and lively on the weekends! The menu and food is unique with cultural fusion, great coffee ☕️, a little pricy on some menu items, but overall worth checking out!
Possibly the best coffee I’ve ever had.they had really nice gluten free bread, awesome buzz to the place and exceptional service. Highly recommend
LOVE THIS PLACE. Such gorgeous friendly staff. I feel so down to earth and comfortable here. One of Gertrude's best cafes. Amazing breakfasts, cant fault the menu to be honest. Really yummy salty chips. They have the cutest little grey blankets folded over the benches outside for the chillier weather. Great coffee! Love a dirty chair here. Fresh ingredients and always busy. I do miss the negronis :(. But always come here for the energy this place has.
What a great cafe! Staff are so welcoming and friendly. They gave us water straight away and took our drinks order quickly too. I always appreciate that upon arrival.
The menu is great! They also have the Mr Yum App which means you can see their dishes before you order. Not that this makes it any easier to make a decision!
I ordered the zucchini and cauliflower salad. It comes dressed in tahini with golden raisins and quinoa. I had mine with 2 poached eggs. It as very nice and super fresh.
My buddy ordered smashed avo on toast. The avo was piled high and the toast was seeded with a crunchy crust. I tried some of the smashed avo and it was delicious!
Eggs poached to perfection. Great service. Cool cafe vibe. Would definitely go back.
9/10
I love Archie’s so much been coming here since I was a young girl in high school.
My friend and I ordered:
-pulled lamb burger: which was great per usual, ordered fries but they were put in the burden which was weird but it worked
- zucchini salad and pulled lamb: I thought this was really lovely however would’ve loved more dressing but overall it was really good
-mandarin mimosa: so tasty I loved this so much would order this again 100%
So I finally got to visit Archie's and I can see why the hype, what a fab cafe!
Decor, staff and menu - tick, tick and tick.
Food and drinks were great, good quality and very fresh ingredients. My cold smoked salmon dish was delicious and I loved the addition of the pickled little peppers (or chillies not sure what they were lol). Great texture in the dish, the poached egg was nice and gooey which matched perfectly with the dressing / sauce on the plate. My friends cold soba noodles with tofu was light and fresh, absolutely lovely.
Drinks were fab too, a definite must.
Busy but the line moves really quickly. I loved the menu - it was really difficult for me to choose what I wanted to eat, but since I was hungover, I chose a fried option. It did not disappoint! Looking forward to returning.
Spend most weekends at Archie’s, a great spot to go with friends or sit with a book. Food is always incredible but the best dish (roast pumpkin hummus!) has been taken off the menu (please bring it back...). Still, more than plenty of other delicious dishes to make up for it. If you have room the peanut butter brownie is divine.
I love the vibe of this cafe, it's just very...."hip". You can sit there with a coffee reading the paper like nothing ever happens. It's just very chilled.
Anyway, the granola has great texture with lots of crunch, and crispness from the julienned granny smith apple, which also provides a good acidity against the yoghurt.
What I'm saying is, it's a nicely balanced, healthy-ish option.
My fav brunch spot in Fitzroy. I love the avocado toast. It's the only place you will actually get a lot of avo! Coffee is average, a bit hit and miss. Come here for the food, it's exceptional!
A lovely little cafe set in Fitzroy, the back courtyard was lovely to sit and dine in with nice staff who I must say were quite patient with us as we had a child at the table and the lovely waitress was happy to entertain her needs! The food was yummy and great coffee as you expect from Melbourne! Recommended!!!
Lovely ambience with impressive comforting food. Definitely recommended
Chicken Waffle
The chicken was absolutely amazing, the flavour was very unique. Almost reminded me of the taste of laksa which is nothing like what I expect from a whipped chipotle butter. Well done on making the chicken breast tender and moist which is quite hard. The waffle was crispy and the crunch from pieces of sugar made the texture more complex and interesting. The centre of the waffle became a bit soggy after a while though it’s hard to avoid. The balance between sweetness, saltiness and spiciness were all balanced, suitable for anyone. Personally I would’ve like a bit more heat but it’s close to perfection.
Huevos Sucios
Overall a very filling and comfy dish. However, it lacked texture, everything felt quite mushy. The potato gems is definitely not home made, thus lacked the crunchiness that hash browns would have. Slightly under seasoned but that subjective.
Coffee was standard, nothing surprising but everything was on point.
Archie’s All Day is a great place for dinner with friend. Staff were very friendly and service was fast. I shared some edamame, corn fritters & sweet potato fries. All of these dishes were delicious, especially the sweet potato fries. For mains, I ordered the pumpkin gnocchi. It was beautifully presented, however after having a few bites the dish felt dry & heavy despite the abundance of purée on the plate. Surcharge on eftpos usage was not appreciated when the bill came.
Best brunch ever! We were seated at a booth and attended to. The food came out promptly and was incredibly creative, delicious and beautifully presented.
The service was fantastic, the coffee was great and our breakfast was delish. We had the Crispy Poached Eggs and the Ham & Leek Croquettes. Both dishes were delicious, so we will be back!
Amazing coffee and really friendly staff.
Hotcakes are always a favourite definitely worth trying. The cafe itself is also decently sized so shouldn’t be much of a wait during peak times.
After a dreadful experience at a previous cafe, 6 hangry people descended onto Archie's determined to be served and to be fed. The amazing people at Archie's did just that. We were told that there was a short wait for a table, and was kept notified on the progress. Once we were seated, our orders were taken promptly, and one very observant waitress even noticed when my partner came in after us and quickly came over to grab his order.
Both the drinks and the food were top notch. I enjoyed my strong latte immensely, it was smooth, balanced and strong indeed. The scrambled eggs that Timinmelbourne ordered looked magnificent - fluffy golden eggs that made me just want to steal a bite. Luckily for me, my partner ordered The Godmother, a brioche bun that came with the same gorgeous scrambled eggs, and I was able to steal a bite, or two, from him. It tasted as great as it looked.
My order of roast chicken sandwich was heavenly. The roast chicken was juicy and tender, the bread wonderfully soft, and the combined flavours of the onions, bacon stuffing, and mayo were so tasty.
Archie's ticked all the boxes with its exceptional service, delicious food and cheerful atmosphere. To quote a certain someone, "This place is jamming", and I agree wholeheartedly.
The most amazing food I had in Melbourne.
Came to Melbourne for a week with my partner, ran into some relatives and ended up here for brunch, spectacular food, spectacular service, really enjoyed it here. Timinmelbourne
Service is friendly, coffee is great and most items on the menu are yummy.
I tend to always order the fish burger and chips though! Simple and delicious!
Came here with two other friends for lunch and we had the lamb burger, chicken burger and bowl of chips (they were super crunchy, fluffy and well seasoned) and the coffee was intense and smoothly satisfying. Got one of the quiet booths which we appreciated and were well looked after by great staff. Would recommend!
Perfect place for brunch. Tried poached egg and #scrambelled egg both were really good.
Easily located and near to many cafes and bars.
You can always add extras to your meal , support staff is amazing:)
Very nice place here. There’s much to love. The space feels good although the tables for two are very very close together and you inevitably share some conversation with your neighbours. As this is a busy place we had various people both sides of us throughout our brunch. They now know more about my life than I’d prefer.
The dishes my companion and I had were mighty impressive. For a start, both dishes were visually stunning (see photos), impressively composed and very flavoursome. Mine was the Huevos Sucios or the Dirty Eggs. I cannot fault the dish particularly as the jalapeño flavour was so beautifully balanced that it gave a delightful length to the meal that lasted well after I finished it. It was never over hot either. The temperature was bang on. Plus, I thought it was good value for money. The Dirty Mary for $10 with this dish is a steal and it’s a superb drink. This is better than any version of Mary I tried recently in Hawaii where they’d claim to make the drink better. They don’t. My dining companion had the king salmon which he declared as delicious too. Our coffees to finish were lovely as well and topped off a pleasant and successful venture.
I’d like to give the place a 4.5, but that option isn’t available as has been canvassed here at length. On balance, mainly due to the squeezy tables for two, I’d round down to 4 this time not up to 5. Tough judgements these.
This place is awesome! Located in Fitzroy, this place has a funky cool vibe to it!
We were a party of 6, and ordered the burger, smashed avo, special of the day (mushrooms) and I had the crispy poached eggs.
I think I had the best choice! The x3 burger eaters were disappointed because they were left hungry after finishing them but I was amazed with my choice!
A bit spicy because of the kimchi, but definitely a great option!
The coffee is also great!
This place is always super busy but it's worth it. Typically I'll avoid places super busy places like this but Archie's is deffinetly an exception.
The food is really high qaulity - I've had the chicken waffles and the hash brown jalapeños stack. Both were super delicious but not very large.
This would normally be a deal breaker for me but the food is just that good.
Props to the servers who work seriously hard and keep everything rolling smoothly.
My partner and I had brunch here. The service was excellent, and friendly.
Starting w a great coffee, I had a Bloody Mary which was fantastic. Really tasty!
Then I had some scrambled eggs w crispy bacon on multigrain toast. My brunch was sooo good, just perfect really.
My partner had an avocado smash w hash browns. This was also excellent, fresh and tasty. The whole meal was fresh and full of flavour.
It’s food like this that can make your day! Yummo lol
Archie's All Day is located at the site of the old Southpaw, one of me and my wife's favourite bars. Thankfully, Archie has maintained the love we have for the location. The fit out is warm, and inviting. The food? Consistent, unique and innovative. This is most recently evidenced by its recently completed pop-up, Archie's Todo el Dia, which involved Julio Aguilera, from El Destilado in Oaxaca, Mexico. We went on Saturday night, and have been talking about it non-stop. Each of the 7 courses we had was incredible, and we're glad we added the Ceviche, because it was special - firm, but tender kingfish that had the perfect tingle afterwards (it seems that Julio's chillis went to good use!). Our favourites, other than the Ceviche, were the fish tacos (holy moly, that has to be contender for THE fish taco in Melbourne, I hope it comes back soon) and the beef rib - which was so tender, sweet and flavourful that my words won't do it justice. Even the guac entree turned the familiar into something different! I love that Archie's All Day is looking for ways to innovate and stand out. The staff are fantastic (Angel at the front is a gun), and we'll be back very soon!
Consistently excellent food with fabulous service to match. The menu boasts great variety to whet your appetite at any time of day. I recently devoured the pictured golden yolky eggs on a bed of walnut salsa, nesting in sumac yoghurt and served with flatbread. I frequently pop in for a noisette croissant with ham and gruyere cheese, and Archie’s smooth coffee blends. No wonder this place is always busy, from morning to evening.
I reallllllyyyyy like my very light brekkie of salmon w soft boiled egg and yuzu mayo! The ricotta hot cakes was nice although it’s better to share it as a dessert with 4 people than eating it all on your own. The croissant I ordered for Hangry Dumpling seemed a little bit stale and hard.
Archie’s have really got It right, in my opinion it’s one of those cafes that has been consistently good for years now. There’s a reason that you will not walk in and sit down at peak times on weekends, no chance! There will inevitably be a queue between 10 and 2 on Saturday and Sunday and sometimes on weekdays too! Archie’s don’t bombard people with Instagram posts! They don’t have to market in the way that others do! They are busy because they are consistently good. In my opinion the best in the area.
Really top notch coffee served relatively quickly. Friend had the egg and bacon roll; it was massive. The eggs looks lovely and velvety. Another friend had the smashed avo and egg; looked solid!! I went for the Korean inspired crumbed poached egg. The kimchi that it was served on was delicious but was apparently not made on site. Gorgeous dish though!!
Consistently excellent product. Some of the best staff in Melbourne. Short and simple food menu that’s not overly priced. The chicken burger being the staple always excellent. It’s understanding why all day it’s busy
Craving for some asian influence brunch today. and this is my first choice! ive never been here before so might as well give it a try. It's very convenient that it is located just at nepier/gertrude st tram stop (86) so you don't have to walk far yey!
The cafe is quite small and narrow. but they got both indoors and outdoors seating. ok here we go straight down to the review guys!!!
Panda:
plus point for backyard outdoor seating which is very comfy with great natural lighting
recommended menu:
chicken waffle = waffle is not to dry or to soggy, just right. chicken is perfectly cooked and the glaze of maple syrup makes it perfect. the waffle is a bit sweet though, just make sure you eat it together with the mayo
the godmother = basically a bun with scrambled egg but they put spring onion and kimchi which give a little freshness. the egg is cooked perfectly and goes well with all the ingredients
quick service
5/5 for the food
Pandon't:
place is too narrow and the gap between each table is to small
coffee is too watery :(
plate comes out cold
We still enjoy the food despite the minor flaws in the cafe. will be back hoping that they've improved :)
A nice busy cafe.
Soy Chai latte is unique. The soy is smoothe and the tea is aromatic. Crispy poached eggs is filling. The kimchi compliments the egg and toast whilst being infused with the sesame drrssing.. Juicy lucy is meaty. The chips are extremely crispy with a soft centre. Service wise, thhe staff are extremely friendly and attentive.
Archie’s has an awesome vibe, breakfast lunch and dinner. Expect to be entertained no time for relaxing here, it’s loud and a fun little cafe.
I really really like this place- solidly good food 9/10 times I've been here, which is a bunch! Have tried lots of the menu and solid favs are the lamb sandwich, the kimchi eggs, the grain salad (I think its grain- the one you can get with lamb), the salmon breakfast dish and the egg and bacon roll. The beef burger and the fish burger are alright but aren't quite as flavourful as other things on the menu. Also great is the long drinks menu- super reasonably priced cocktails that for some reason aren't priced as cocktails because they're 'long'. Good service, good atmosphere. 💕👌🏽
This is a nice well lit space with a very clean aesthetic to it. I had the crispy poached eggs which was a beautiful dish - all parts complimented each other well! The kimchi added a good kick and was a good amount without making the bread too soggy. The eggs were cooked beautifully and werent too oily. The enoki mushrooms and edamame beans cut nicely into the spice of the dish.
I also had the mango smoothie which was a good blend of mango and mint, as they worked in unison together. However it was very sweet, and would’ve been a sugar overdose had I not had my savoury main. Presentation of both dishes was beautiful though and the staff were very friendly! Dishes came out in a decent amount of time considering the lunch time rush.
Stopped by for some after work drinks and was impressed by Archie’s wine list. The happy hour pinot noir and the Portuguese white were both delicious, and the diversity of the other wines on the list was very much to my taste.
We had the cauliflower as a snack which was delicious and generous in size. The service was friendly and helpful.
I’ll be back to sample some more of their menu for lunch or dinner soon.
Archie’s is favourite of mine, food is always served promptly and delicious.
Service is always fantastic even in the busiest of times.
Happy hour here is also brilliant!
A must try, Roast Chicken sandwich, Turkish eggs and $10 Negroni 👌🏼
Enjoyed a brunch and dinner here. For brunch, we both ordered burgers, which were really tasty - The Godmother had beautifully scrambled fluffy eggs, and the rockling fillet burger had an amazing tartare sauce. The fries were fairly average. I was surprised it was fairly quiet on a Saturday night for dinner, but it made for a more relaxed and really nice atmosphere. The cocktails were delicious. The croquettes were amazingly crispy, creamy and punchy with flavour... a delicious start to a meal. Personally, the wagyu burger was hearty but not as memorable as the fish burger from brunch. The steak was exceptional, perfectly cooked and full-bodied in flavour. It was a really impressively handled piece of affordable steak. The only letdown during the two meals was the peanut butter brownie with soft chocolate and sesame for dessert. It sounded good on paper, but it was a case of messing with something that shouldn't have been messed with. There were a lot of spices (we felt there was a very strong clove taste?) throughout, and for us, it was really jarring and off-putting. Save for the dessert at the end, we thought the kitchen at Archie's does a pretty stellar job, at both breakfast/lunch and dinner, at executing their succinct menu. Dinner items, in particular, were very generously portioned for the price. Also, the staff were very friendly on both visits.
Food was absolutely delightful and good specials. Downside - we had to wait a while and they don’t seat unless everyone is there. I get stressed when they don’t write down our order when there’s a big group! We had two mistakes. Music was too loud. Overall it was okay because the food was yum!
Cutest backyard! Small but super cosy. We had the dirty eggs and the godmother. Dirty eggs could do with less tater tots and more of the other complements (avocado, beans..)! It was still super tasty and just like the godmother (chilli scrambled eggs), Archie's really prides themselves in taste. They could really work on presentation though! We were expecting the Chilli scrambled eggs to look a little more classy than a 'regular bun' look. The photo could be mistaken for a simple egg burger, when in fact it's more!! :-) would come back again to try the rest of their menu!
Fantastic cauliflower, zucchini, tahini salad. Other menu options (that I spied on other tables) look terrific. Great coffee and service. I'm a little surprised by some of the other reviews - I'll be back again to see if my high rating sticks.
Pretty good food for the most part- decent coffee and lovely staff. Nice fit out, not too wanky. Refreshing to see a cafe open up without 500 different types of coffee on order. Keepin it real.
Probably the best smashed avo I have ever tasted in my life!!! We make sure to go to Archie's every time we visit Melbourne. Will be back again for sure next time!
Make sure to order poached egg on the side. It makes the whole experience more deliciously gooey :-)
My pick for brekkie in Melb. Friendly staff, great atmosphere plus you never have to wait long for a table. Happening vibe weekday and weekend. Food and coffee always good without being over the top unique. Pretentious Archie's is not - the quintessential Melbourne cafe.
Visited Archie's on my day off, the place was reasonably busy around 11am on a weekday. Didn't not have to wait to get a table. Was tossing between the huevos sucios or the crispy poach eggs, went with the latter and glad I did. It was definitely a great dish, one that I would return for.
Coffee was decent as well, friendly staffs and great service all round. There's a constant buzz around the place, good vibes and great place for catch up with friends. On that note, it might not be as well suited if you're looking for a quiet place to chill and relax.
The staff here are extremely friendly. The ambiance of the cafe inside the place was really comfy and warm . I ordered the Crispy Poached Eggs and it is literally the best breakfast item I had ever had in my life . The creative idea of fried poached eggs on a big dollop of fresh daikon kimchi on top of toast and topped off with zesty hollandaise sauce is seriously the best combination I have ever witnessed . Definitely a big fan !
Had the pancakes which were quite good, but almost soaked in lemon curd and cream, which made them too sweet. The service was very friendly, but the deafening music made the experience quite unpleasant.
Came in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was reasonably full when we arrived (about 9.30) but no wait for a seat. We had the ricotta hotcakes and huevos sucios which arrived quite quickly.
Food was ok. The huevos sucios was probably the better dish of the two. It's hard to go wrong with potato gems. The best thing on the hotcakes was the yuzu meringue but I can't go past anything with yuzu on it.
The interior is nice and cozy - we liked the picture frames on the wall. The music was good but a little too loud for the morning. By the time we left, all the tables outside were also taken and there were people waiting so they must be doing a good job all round.
Went here for brunch on a busy Saturday morning and got a seat straight away. Ordered the lamb sandwich and it was delicious! The only let down was that it wasn't bigger. Archie's is a great venue that plays really good tunes continuously. Definitely worth checking out :)
Had a meal outside with my pooches and a mate, the comfort of a nice toasty heater next to us as well as supplied blankets was an awesome touch and removed any envy of those inside. I got the smashed avo... Price was a little steep for the dish alone plus extras, but given the popularity of the area I can sort of understand. Dish was tasty and coffee was great. Looking forward to coming back and trying the dirty eggs!! Thanks for the hospitality guys! :)
The ricotta hotcakes are simply the best brunch around and the blankets are a treat on a cold winters morning! Staff are busy but always lovely and attentive.
Cute joint with great ambience and vibes. The playlist of the music was on point for a Saturday night. Food was delicious. It was a great stop over for a dessert. We had apple crumble, it was ok.. I much preferred the traditional crumble with the tart and biscuit crumble than the almonds crumble and the whole apple.. the coconut yoghurt was warm and soft on the palette which wasn't for my liking.. the donuts on the other hand was soft and bouncy. Coated with light cinnamon and sugar. The lemon curd had a zingy and wonderful citrus taste to it which complimented well with the donuts. I loved how the macadamias just melted in my mouth like as if I was eating white chocolate. The sweet potato fries was crunchy and wholesome with lots of flavours. I thoroughly enjoyed this place and can't wait to try some more of the other foods they offer.
Great food, excellent service - the staff were very attentive - and fantastic value our breakfast was only $16! I had a really excellent brunch there
Awesome food and coffee is spot on every time. It would have to be one of my favourite cafes, cant go past the dirty eggs. Big tick all round!
Try the: Huevos Rancheros ($19.5)
Cute little cafe at Fitzroy with excellent coffees. I had the Huevos Rancheros (dirty eggs) and they were just divine. I mean, I wouldn't usually associate tater tots with the word divine but these ones were just absolutely top notch. Not sure whether I was feeling peckish for junk food as I tucked in, but I loved the combination of the slightly spicy tomato salsa, the gooiness of the cheese and just the crispness of the tater tots. Just yum. The chipotle mayo and the fried eggs just tied the dish perfectly.
Archie's was completely packed when we got there mid morning so we had a short wait for an outside table. It was very chilly out but the heaters managed to keep us as comfortable as outside seating can be in a Melbourne Winter!
Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive - even thought we were outside and away from the majority of other tables there was always someone around when you needed them. Coffee and food were delicious! There are lots of interesting options different to your regular cafe fair but also some well loved standards. I had the Huevos Sucios which were just the right amount of spicy.
I'll definitely be heading back to try some of the other dishes!
Fitzroy seems to be the lunch venue most of the time for both WL and mine, partly because of convenient car parking as compared to somewhere in the heart of the CBD. After close to two months, I feel pretty confident with hovering myself around this brunch laden suburb. Juice and chai latte - one of us likes sipping on sour liquids whilst the other prefers hot, mildly caffeinated beverages.
Archie’s is a cool place to head to for all day breakfast in hip and happening Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. Came for a late brekkie and the place was packed. A combination of chairs and tables and stools in one room then mainly booths in the other! We sat at a charming booth and admired the white painted rock walls, funky hanging lights, potted plants and artwork that seemed to be salvaged from the grandma’s house. Food is wholesome and healthy and we chose the super grains granola and the smashed avocado w Meredith goats’ feta, mint, parsley, lemon, sumac and pepita dukkah and a poached egg. Really enjoyed the very relaxed, chilled out vibe and if I’d brought my laptop with me I could’ve stayed ALL DAY! 😊
The Melbourne Fruiterer
+4.5

I found myself sauntering along the delightful promenade of Gertrude Street early this morning when I happened upon an establishment with a name so inconceivably appropriate for a coffee palace I was rendered awestruck. It was as though I had ascended into a position of authority on awareness and in my throne I was being paraded through the doors in an opulent procession honouring the café's existence. Once the butterflies in my stomach had settled and the hairs upon my neck had returned to their resting position, I was treated to a resplendent macchiato and a marvellous toasted croissant. It's very rare that I appreciate the atmosphere of a café so much that I develop such an innate attachment in what was an all-too-fleeting moment of unadulterated rapture.
I don't think I'll ever forget the moment I stood mesmerised, almost paralysed by wonder and anticipation in the quiet of a frigid Fitzroy dawn this April. What followed has redefined both my expectations of high quality coffee and my understanding of the science surrounding its multi-faceted métier. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest Archie knows his beans better than most active baristas on Earth.
Archies All day is a trendy, modern, vibrant eatery located on Gertrude street Fitzroy. With limited seating out the front, upon entering one, is immediately confronted with the coffee bar located against the side wall, residing next to the glass cabinet revealing a delicious assortment of sweet treats. There is window seating at the entrance, but the further one walks into this great establishment, booth seats are revealed with the cafe being divided into two, separated by a large white wall. The booths are comfortable and the rooms are decked with artwork, crafting a relaxing, yet up beat environment. There is a small courtyard out the back that reveals a staircase to a rooftop bar area that comes to life after 6pm.
Archies has been on my radar for a long time due to the fact they brew Proud Mary Coffee and I’ve walked past on numerous occasions, viewing there menu in the window countless time. On a Wednesday afternoon a friend and I finished uni and decided to treat ourselves to a late hump day brunch. When entering Archies, the cafe was moderately busy but we where greeted by a very friendly talkative waitress who seated us in one of the booths along the side wall. We where presented with menus and ordered our hot beverages of choice being a long black as well as the intriguing golden monkey tea. After viewing the ever so mouthwatering menu we finally decided on dishes to satisfy our rumbling stomachs. The waitress returned with our drinks and took our orders of the Super grains granola with my personal preference of almond milk along with the Smashed avocado with added tomatoes.
The long black was brewed to utter perfect. It was fruity, acidic, bold with flavour with an additional subtle tart tasting note. The golden monkey tea was very unique indeed and was a rare pleasant surprise. It was remnant of an asian white tea, revealing a nutty fragrance and palatable earthy heart warming taste.
Our meals arrived promptly looking breathtaking when placed on the wooden table. The smashed avocado with Meredith goats feta, mint, parsley, lemon, sumac and pepita dukkah with added tomatoes was a very filling dish. The generous serving of creamy avocado littered with salty goats feta was smeared in abundance over the crusty buttered bread. The lemon paired well with the spicy dukkah, enhancing the flavour of the avocado. The refreshing sweet tomatoes balanced the dish ensuring it was complety flawless.
The super grains granola served with almond milk, mango sheep’s yoghurt, apple, strawberries and kiwi fruit was plated beautifully, respecting each ingredient entirely, ensuring its presence was not diminished by others. The granola consisting of dried fruits and nuts with clusters of oats, appealed to both sweet and savoury palates. The fresh apple, strawberries and kiwi fruit added tartness and the almond milk providing a creamy nutty texture to the immaculate dish. The true standout would have to be the thick creamy mango sheep’s yoghurt that resided at the base of the bowl. It was smooth and pungent tasting just like a magnificent mango smoothie.
Archies All day is an outstanding vicinity that serves delicious food at a reasonable price, in a soothing yet trendy atmosphere. The staff are overly friendly and the coffee is utterly perfect. It is likely that Archies will become a regular spot for me in the future due to its lack back chill environment and iconic location.
On paper, the combination of the crispy poached eggs and mushroom on toast sounds like a match made in heaven, with everything else serving as bells and whistles. Turns out, the enoki mushrooms blend into the backdrop of flavours, while the tangy, spicy kimchi and sensationally fragrant sesame dressing take centre stage alongside the delicate crunch of the crispy poached eggs. And let’s not forget the ooze of the spot on-poached eggs. Balance is key in this dish given the punchy flavour of the kimchi and I found that I had a bit too much on my plate during visit number two.
I came to Archie's All Day for brunch with a friend. I had the crispy poached eggs with kimchi, enoki mushrooms, edamame, roasted sesame sauce on sourdough.
I really loved the unique combination of flavours, definitely not something you see at every brunch cafe! While the flavours were all there, I wish that the eggs had been crispier (they were poached then I believe deep fried - they would have lived up to their name if they'd been panko crumbed or something, as they were barely crispy at all) and the sourdough could have done with a bit of toasting. My friend really enjoyed her chicken sandwich.
Was searching for a late afternoon coffee on a walk along Gertrude St when we spotted Archie's and I am glad we stopped. Although to me $1 extra for almond milk seems a bit steep, I was pleased with my iced latte. Smooth coffee, nice atmosphere and friendly staff - would recommend.
I've mainly had the Huevos Sucios on my visits here - because it's delicious. Hard to go past any dish which combines potato gems, eggs and cheese. Service is pretty good though the seating arrangements are a bit of a squeeze. Worth a visit to try some tasty food that's out of the ordinary.
Coffee =yum. Cauliflower hummus = blood yum. White Choc lemon curd hot cakes = hell blood yes yum!!! We were so lucky to get a table inside this hot summer day, otherwise it would've been nice to sit outside along Gertrude. Very nice spot to catch up with an old friend and friendly staff.
