We have eaten here a few times now and each time and every meal has been nothing but amazing. We thoroughly recommend this restaurant as a 'must try' to tantalise the taste buds.
Loved every single meal we had to share! Can't wait to go back. The snapper, thrice cooked duck and pork ribs were to die for!
What amazing food and great service, Dom our waiter was divine. This place is a must, make sure you all get along.
One of my favourite places. The food is the best. So yummy, could eat there every day. The staff are great very friendly and the service excellent.
A group of us comes here pretty often. Tonight was fantastic as usual. Great service and amazing food! Thanks for the shot honestly can’t go wrong with this place it is A+
I love this place. I've been probably half a dozen times now and it's always great. The laksa is a favorite.
Every dish was deliciously delectable with the authentic tastes of Malaysia and beautifully presented! A definite treat to the tastebuds. Service was warm, friendly and impeccable. The atmosphere and vibe is welcoming, warm and cosy - absolutely a delightful place to dine in!

Excellent food and service. We asked the waiter to choose for us and it was ACE!
Nice little restaurant with welcoming atmosphere. Food was tasty and quick.will be back for dinner with girl friend soon. Her name is (sab)
The most Amazing Malaysian Restaurant in Melbourne... well worth the 1 hour drive to get there from Frankston. Will be holding many parties here.
Simply the best. Traditional, food is always first class quality, backed up with great, friendly service. Small and can get busy but well worth it.
Being Malaysian, I am extremely critical when it comes to Malaysian food. This place definately impress me, authentic Malaysian food 🇲🇾 👍🏻
Ordered:
Crispy Rockling $30 🐟
Beef Rendang $25 🥘
Sambal Okra, Eggplant & Beans $19 🥬
Deep Fried Mini Tofu (5 pieces) $8
Pisang Goreng (Fried Banana) $8 🍌
Durian Ice Cream $2 🍦
Steam Rice $3 🍚
The deep fried tofu contains minced meat inside and it is a really generous size for an entree size, compatible to a main dish size. The beef in the beef rendang is very tender tho I personally did not like the rendang as I felt it was made from a powder packet - I’ve tasted real rendang in Malaysia & this definately did not taste like one, felt rather powdery. Sambal okra, eggplant & beans: Definitely amazing, my favourite and it was made up to my standards.
Overall the food is good, tho it is to keep in mind that it is very pricy but being that it is authentic Malaysian food, I accept the high price.
Everthing we ate was spot on. The whitebait fritters were a very generous size. They were mixed with sweet potato and the light batter made them not too oily or rich.
The beef rendang was perfectly spiced and tender and the stir fried okra with eggplant belachan was gutsy but not too pungent, just delicious.
We will definitely be crossing the river to try the laksa!
Excellent laksa, and the samba okra/eggplant/green beans is phenomenal. The service is always really friendly and enthusiastic without being intrusive. I will keep coming back!
Came here on a weekday night for a birthday dinner with friends. The food was yummy and so was the dessert. The food is quite authentic Malaysian. The waiter was friendly and attentive.
Came here for a good laksa and was not disappointed! The service was impeccable, friendly, we felt like we were eating at a friend’s home. Kids first time eating Malaysian and as we left they asked when we would be returning.....soon I’d say!
I had a lovely meal here. Food was really good especially the duck rendang, pork sticky ribs and duck bao! Service and ambience was also fantastic- will definitely be returning soon to try the rest of the menu!
Blue chillies is an amazing Malaysian restaurant. I love the decor of the restaurant, where they put drinks and traditional items on the shelf’s and benches, really brings a warm feel. I had the fish head vermicelli and pickled cabbage. Was perfect for the weather. The broth wasn’t too overpowering and that’s what I loved about it most. Beef Randang was delicious too. Beef was perfectly cooked and the curry had all the elements you would expect. Sweet, sour, savoury and the “kick”.
Great service, located in a quieter area of Fitzroy, which I found good because of the convenience to finding parking.
They have espresso here too. Which I always love a good coffee after a nice meal. WIR? Willing to try everything else in the menu.
Love blue chillies!! You can tell that they take pride in what they do and everything is so authentic. I highly recommend their chicken curry and asam fish. Service was spot on and the decor of the restaurant is really nice. Defs recommend and will definitely come back!
This is our new local for our taste of great Malaysian food - laksa, curry puffs & nasi lamak our favourites -all served by the smiling Bonnie
At this stage I've only deliveroo'd but the meal has been perfect everytime. Love the food - always fresh with amazing flavours, perfect heat & spice. Personal favourites - duck rendang, seafood laksa & fried rice.
A group of us met up here as all of us wanted Malaysian food. The restaurant was very accommodating to us and did not rush us out as it was a long dinner for us.
Parking around the area is not surprisingly a night mare.
Now on to the food
We had the duck bao. That's was met with great appreciation around the table. The sambal ikan bilis was great and pretty authentic. The chicken satay was average.
For the mains, we had the pork ribs..those were yummy. We had the kung pao chicken..pretty average. The noodle dishes which was mee goreng and char kuoy teow weren't oily which was great but again pretty average.
The only disappointing thing was that the veggies which we ordered took forever to come and had to be reminded about it.
Delicious! We had the okra, steamed barramundi and the spinach. The spinach side was especially tasty. The service was excellent, it felt like we were having dinner in a family home. Will definitely be back soon.
Entree specialist ....
Just be mindful of parking in this area ... so bloody hard to find, thanks to the Yarra City Council.
"Brilliant modern Malaysian cuisine, renowned for their Sticky Pork Ribs in Chilli Jam, ... " Keith J .... and that is it.
Just a superb Entrees;
9/10 Spicy Chilly Jam Prok Ribs
8/10 Samosa
I like their Entrees so much that Mains were just ordinary ..... still quite authentic though
Gado-Gado, good start, good Peanut sauce, fresh ingredients.
Beef Curry (Rendang) was too liquid, thin, not enough thickness, creamier would be more authentic.
Indian Mee Goreng, pretty good.
Better .....
Thrice Cooked Duck
Poached Barramundi
Fantastic service, albeit the difficulty in servicing two floor levels; upstairs and downstairs, not enough staff, kudos to young Dominic for serving us so well, a University of Melbourne law student who can speaks at least three languages, thank you and well done.
The other let down .... NO BYO ..... JT-22/07/2017.
Great friendly service. Tasty food. The beef curry is very tender and fragrant. Chicken satay delicious. Value for money. Authentic. Cosy atmosphere.
Amazing and affordable food! Loved the service! Did not have to wait long for the food either which was handy! Will definitely be back very soon!!
Down at the city end of Brunswick Street in Fitzroy is Blue Chillies, a Malay restaurant that I've been meaning to try for some time.
It's fair to say that the food here attempts to stay true to authentic flavours, whilst injecting some modern Australian finesse to the ambiance and setting. This is upscale Malay food and flavours, not cheap and cheerful oriental food. But this place definitely meets the brief.
The Assam Fish served in a tamarind marinade and the spicy flavoursome Malay chicken curry really hit the spot. But for me, the absolute knock out, and this restaurant's 'reason for being', are the pork chilly jam ribs. I felt like a ten year old school child tucking into this with my bare hands, but to not do so would not do these humble food items justice. These come in a medium sized serving, and are definitely worth sharing between two people as an appetiser.
I can recommend this place, not a bad joint at all. Did I mention the pork ribs?
One of the first few Malaysian restaurants that I have came to known when I relocated to Melbourne in 2015 and also one that I did not manage time for a visit due to its distance. Am very grateful to WL for being such a sport and ferrying me to places that I would think almost impossible to get around to.
Went here with two friends on a Sunday evening. Made a reservation but that was unneccesary. Servuce was friendly. They didn't know whether their meat was free range which limited our choices quite a bit. Food was not bad, would love them to start using frwe range meat so we can pick from the whole menu!
Got delivery after an epic Saturday night and I made a very good choice. Vego laksa was delish. Creamy and just the right amount of spice. Hanging to indulge here again!!!
Diligent staff, really delicious food, nice atmosphere - went here for a birthday dinner and it was spot on - will go again soon!
Portion sizes are decent, and it's good that the waiter asked about how spicy we wanted the dishes, as well as recommending dishes that go well together.
I go around Melbourne looking for good Laksa noodles, and have to say this little gem has one of the best Laksa I had in Melbourne! Nasi Goreng was also great! If you are a fan of curry laksa like me, this is a must go place. Service was also great and friendly.
Beautiful, fresh food with amazing flavours. Met some friends from the US here and was proud to showcase one of the many amazing restaurants that Melbourne has to offer. There are also lots of options for gluten-free which was a relief! Service was also excellent. Well done Blue Chillies on a superb menu and restaurant!
Enjoyed the "Celebration" banquet with a few extra dishes and dessert platter. Service was prompt, and the food flavoursome and reasonably priced. Would definitely not hesitate to go again.
Probably the best Asian food you will get in the inner north. The chicken laksa is as good as most places and it's a great place for a cheap bite to eat.
Fantastic food, all meals tasted amazing! Great attention to detail by staff, could not be faulted! Duck Rendang is worth a try! Will be back again!
Yum! Laksa yum and fresh with lots of non filler! Been here twice and enjoyed both times. Second time really hit the spot after a cold night at the MCG. Did I mention yum?

As stated on the menu, this is Fitzroy's best laksa. Not Melbourne's best, but definitely the best in Fitzroy. Nice staff, nice vibe, not pretentious.
Fabulous. Welcoming place, service just on the right side of attentive without being obsequious. But it's the food you're here for - and no disappointments. The chicken curry is divine, the poached barramundi gentle in flavour and the spicy eggplant is just that - a sumptuous mix of spice and oil that drips (literally) in flavour. Unending rice to go with it. $120 for two (three shared mains) including a bottle of Shiraz. No complaints there - especially with food that good!
For a special occasion, Friday night was at the only modern Malaysian restaurant I like (and probably the only one I know). After recently reconnecting with this place in March (. This occasion was certainly helped by the manager giving advice about dishes to order. The advice was to distinguish between some of the things on the menu that are aimed more toward the Western market (90% of their clientele), some toward the traditional Malaysian Chinese market, and some toward those with food preferences (eg. vegetarians). In the end that information will go a long way toward subsequent dinners there.
My sister and I are Blue Chillies regulars and have been for over a decade.
Service and food is fantastic and everything is reasonably priced. Some items on the menu I would recommend trying include: the whitebait fritters, seafood laksa, and the barramundi. Tonight I had the barramundi - It's light and tasty and leaves you space for dessert. Also grabbed some curry puffs on the side. I'm not much of a spicy food fan, but the sauce is delicious and I kept going back for more.
There have been a few changes over the years. The restaurant is now bright and more inviting from the street. The menu is also now printed on an A3 page - personally I liked the appearance of the old menu, however it's generally remained the same. They used to make the best hokkien noodle dish but sadly that never made the cut on their new menu. Either way this place is always on my recommendation list.
There aren't many places who serve "modern Malaysian" cuisine, but Blue Chillies has been doing it for years. I stumbled across here with my parents probably around 2001 with my last meal there somewhere between 2007-2009. Although the years have gone by and the owners have changed hands (the floor and management staff may be the same), I still fondly remember the duck in this beautiful sweet and tangy sauce. If Longrain's deep fried pork hock in soy caramel sauce has an equal, this could be it.
Salt and pepper okra. That's it! It's been on their menu for the years I've been coming here and it is the bomb! The beef rendang and roti are great too, but the okra is the go-to dish here!
Passion for the food, passion for the customer experience that is the epitome of the Blue Chillies dining experience. Ricky is the bomb! The food is veritable explosion of tastes and flavours from ginger flower ground into the finest accompaniment to thrice cooked duck to slow cooked pork belly blacked with a rich marinade or rockling crunched up in light crumb. The only blue is the one you'll make if you don't step in and tell Ricky the Queensland Crew sent you. 5 out of 5.
Fabulous food, sensational service and extremely explicit explanations!! Ricky you are a master of your craft!! Thank you from the Queensland crew
For someone who isn't a fan of chilli, this place is one is my favourite places in Melbourne. Their fried whitebate and sweet potato fritters are my favourite thing I've come across in any Asian restaurant. I guess that's because it's innovative and different from all the usual suspects. Although they have the usual suspects such as noodles and fried rice (who both I've had and are delicious), their entrees are interesting and a must try. Order a few and share with friends. Skip main meal if you have to because it's worth it.
Booked Blue Chillies last minute last Saturday night. Solid Malaysian restaurant, nearly all the favourites can be found on the menu.
Very busy little place (I think they have an upstairs dining room too) so it can feel a bit crowded. Great for a casual meal out with good quality dishes you'd find at a fancier digs. One thing I noticed for a Malaysian restaurant was the chopsticks on the table, something you wouldn't normally find in a Malaysian place.
The staff and floor manager are very friendly and helpful. Parking can be a little tricky but if you're catching a tram it stops just outside.
A great local spot, friendly, modern and casual. Will come back.
Ordered the king prawns and thrice cooked chicken. The rice noodle wrapped around the prawns were a bit too hard for my liking but the puree was fantastic! The thrice cook chicken is decent, nothing to write home about. Ambience is quite nice, so is the service. Just a heads up, a lot of items are either seafood or spicy.
Absolutely love this place. I had a party of about 20 people so they booked us upstairs. We had the banquet which was delicious and very reasonably priced. The communication leading up, the staff on the night, the food, the atmosphere, everything was absolutely amazing. Everyone loved it and can't wait to go back!
Whenever my husband and I feel like a great malaysian curry, or laksa, thrice cooked duck, great rockling fillets, the list goes on, we like to come to blue chillies. These guys have been around for a long time and serve many regulars who just keep come back.
Our normal dishes that we get are the Ayam Kapitam and rockling fillets - and maybe a side of blanchan spinach. All of these dishes just go amazing together. If your up for working your way through fish bones, a must is the partially deboned snapper - its deep fried and then served with an amazing sauce.
Ricky and team are amazing here and nothing is too much to ask for.
This past decade, Brunswick St has been changing like a teenager going through puberty. Keeping up with the ever-changing dining scene in Melbourne is difficult, but this Malaysian veteran is here to stay. On a side note, perfect segway to wish Blue Chillies a happy sweet 16th! You’re a full-blooded teenager now ;). Taking inspiration from the hawker centres of Kuala Lumpur & Penang, authentic Malaysian cuisine with a contemporary twist has been served to hungry diners for the past 16 years. With a design that takes its heritage from the colonial shophouses of Malaysia, sharing is caring at Blue Chillies.
One of my favourite restaurants. The food and service is amazing. Would go back just for the gado gado, one of my favourite dishes! The curries are amazing too.
The flavours just "wallop" you in the face at Blue Chillies. I've been here about 20 times and i'm always fearful that it's going to get that little bit boring...BUT there's no fear of that. I am a meat machine, but when you order the vegetarian options you are just as wowed. Ricky (one of the owners) typically runs FOH on the weekends and he's a master at reading the food that you might want. The Ribs, massive and belted full of flavour. The duck, but not just the duck, the lemongrass sauce "pow" and the Beef Curry (renamed from the Rendang) "smack". Simply brilliant. Its a fun atmosphere, just love it. ...... Have to cut Blue Chillies just short of a 5/5 since no BYO which pushes the bill up a bit. Wine list is however pretty good.
Excellent. Could not fault a thing. We had squid, chicken satay & roti & peanut sauce as entrees. King prawns & the pork belly special for mains. Lovely lychee martinis to accompany our meal. The service is excellent, & the charming owner was very attentive. Nice ambience, tables are nicely spaced - you can have a conversation without raising your voice.
Staff was very friendly and remarkably efficient, the food tasty and colourful just spiced the right amount. Finally the atmosphere, nice cosy, and elegantly decorated, this place deserves a 5 hands down.
A modern Malaysian restaurant located on the bustling Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, Blue Chillies has been on my agenda for a really long time. The term ‘modern Malaysian’ did make me a little skeptical initially, the only reason being very few restaurants can deliver a modern take on a classic cuisine successfully. But after reading a couple of my blogger friends’ reviews of the place, I was ready to put it to the test.
The staff was very very welcoming and helpful, the food amazing, the place cute and cosy!
Overall the experience was wonderful, thank you blue chillies, we will come back!
The food here is fantastic. I don't think I had a single dish I didn't enjoy. The pork ribs are spectacular! They're fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce is delicious. I can't stress how much I loved this dish. The duck curry, which was a special for the night, was another highlight. It was lovely and fragrant and went down really well with rice. Will definitely return!
16 years on Blue Chillies continues to be one of Melbourne’s favourite modern Malaysian restaurants. Located in the iconic Brunswick Street Fitzroy dining district, Blue Chillies have been serving locals and visitors alike over the past 15 years with an ever progressive menu of signature takes on classic Malaysian flavours with a Melbourne flair.
We tried Blue chillies for the first time last night and were disappointed. First of all, service was slow. There were two waitressing staff for 5 tables and we were not given much attention. A few times, we have to wait to get someone's attention and food came out rather slowly.
Secondly, we ordered the duck rendang and got the thrice cooked duck instead. I thought the dish didn't taste like duck rendang but it took some time for me to get the waiter's attention so by the time he got to me, we've eaten half the dish. He did offer to replace our dish but we didn't think that was necessary but wished we had the right dish. However he came back and said that dish was ordered, and no apologies was offered by the restaurant for giving us the wrong dish, apart from replacing the dish.
Thirdly, our companions ordered the gado gado which was not a Malaysian dish but an indonesian dish. Several dishes in the restaurant are not malaysian dishes.
On the other hand, the serving size of the food was generous but this restaurant was definitely serving fusion dishes and not authentically Malaysian cuisine. The service was a let down.
This is the best tasting laksa iv ever eaten, it was not overly rich. The rest of the food was great too. Highly recommend this place service was good too
Malaysian cuisine seems to have dropped off the map of late. What with Papa Rich currently renovating, Mamak, having had its time in the spotlight, and the laksa revolution at saturation point (a healthy saturation point), it’s been a while since Malaysian food has taken centre stage of the Melbourne food scene.
Blue Chillies is a Malaysian restaurant on Brunswick street in Fitzroy, which has been around since 1999. Yep, that’s 16 years. The Malaysian flavours and modern execution provide a sensational dining experience. For the restaurant to be around for so long and still growing strong is testament that the food is delicious.

If you find yourself looking for one area of Melbourne to best show off our city's eccentricity characters and taste for the alternative, Brunswick Street is your one stop shop. Known for it's cultured dining district, bars and live music venues, you'll also find Blue Chillies quaintly snuggled in.
King PrawnsWe really enjoyed the night at Blue Chillies and we had a scrumptious meal over glasses of juice and wine. Blue Chillies just turned 16 recently and tonight I was lucky enough to celebrate their special occasion along with other fellow bloggers. Being in such a competitive industry, it is for a known fact not an easy venture to be able to sustain a restaurant for such a long period of time and Blue Chillies have definitely defied all odds and made it work. They have great reputation for serving modern Malaysian food, taking traditional Malaysian flavours and elevating them in various ways. At Blue Chillies you can expect to see hawker styled dishes from the streets of Kuala Lumpur or Penang refined in both flavour and presentation.

Last week Blue Chillies celebrated sixteen years of livening up Fitzroy with their simple yet sophisticated Malaysian cuisine, friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. As a community of bloggers and their friends gathered in this restaurant, there was anticipation for a unique take on Malaysian food. We weren’t disappointed!
Blue Chillies is a modern Malaysian restaurant. While it firmly has its roots in traditional Malaysian cuisine - think, hawker-style food in a contemporary Australian settings. The service is warm and friendly and you can tell how passionate the staff are about the food and the restaurant. If I had to pick a favourite dish for the night it would be the yee sang salad. It's a traditional Malaysian salad of sashimi salmon, crunchy salad dressed with apricot plum sauce topped with roasted peanuts. It's usually served at Chinese new year and the individual components of the salad symbolise wealth, good fortune and wonderful auspiciousness. The sashimi was super fresh and the salad was a delightfully fresh and crunchy.

It was modern Malaysian. Nice and cosy restaurant with very warm service from the Owner and his staff. The pork stew was to die for. The duck rendang was good too. The Loh bak was excellent!
Salt and Pepper Okra. Fresh and juicy okra lightly fried in a delicate salt and pepper batter
This is a regular lunch time venue- the great value lunch menu is right on for value for money and quality-always a reliable brunswick st fave!
Wonderful food and attentive service. Having lived just around the corner for several years, I had been meaning to check this place out for ages and finally got around to it just before Easter. I'm so pleased I did. The service was outstanding. Our waiter provided great information about the dishes and recommendations for what would work well together. We had originally wanted to order a noodle dish, but decided against it on his suggestion based on the other 2 dishes we'd selected. However at the end of the meal, he brought out a small plate for us to sample the kway teow anyway.
White bait and sweet potato fritters were delicious and crispy and the zingy dipping sauce offset them perfectly. Another highlight was the duck rendang, with the meat so tender it just melted in the mouth. When we finished our bottle of wine, but my dining companion still had some left, our waiter kindly poured me complimentary splash so we could finish our drinks together.
What a gem. I will definitely be returning.
This is one of my favourite places to dine. It has offerings of both traditional dishes and contemporary Malaysian with positive innovations. I will try to make the distinction between the two in the blog entry. It means that depending on my mood and the preference of fellow diners, the choices are still there. This is worth a visit, if you just do your research a little bit and know what your preference is before you order... just decide whether you want their traditional dishes or more contemporary offerings.
My Local Favourite. I live around the corner from Blue Chillies and it's become one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. Consistently fantastic food, warm surrounds and excellent unpretentious service. Great for take away too. Just writing about Blue Chillies fills me with a desire to visit. Superb!
Sensational food! !. Our party of 8 enjoyed a number of different dishes. Everything we ordered was a taste sensation. Highly recommended.
First time here & definitely will be back. Great service & tasty, spicy, delicious meals.
Good Lord this place is good. I have lived in Melbourne a long time and for some reason I had never been here. It is my own stupid fault. So many years of missing out on how good this place is. Luckily I was taken here on my very special birthday. Everything I ate on that fateful night was so agreeably delicious that I think of it now in an almost reverential way. On top of the things I had the pleasure of eating, I can also commend this place on it's great service. Friendly, funny, charming. An immediate favourite. At the end of the meal they brought out, on their insistence, a little green birthday pancake with a candle. I swooned with delight. I'll be back as much as I can Blue Chiilies. And I'll bring my friends.
To dear Ricky and the team at Blue Chillies. I am so happy to tell you the money we raised for the Cambodia NGO, Ptea Teuk Dong, at our Blue Chillies fundraising lunch went very far! I remain incredibly grateful for your generous support - we could not have done it without you. Our lunch was an amazing success, our guests are still talking about the food!
The PTD team is working so hard and is achieving so much in Battambang!
Some of it you can see on Ptea Teuk Dong's Facebook page, and website
www.ptdcambodia.org
With the funds raised at our amazing Blue Chillies lunch we were able to provide the children of PTD with:
* an entire new English language curriculum, including all text books and work books
* maps of the world and of Cambodia for the classrooms, and other relevant posters
* story books for the PTD library
* toothbrushes and toothpaste for every student and staff member of PTD
* soap
* nail clippers
* purchase and installation of 4 outdoor sinks so that the children can wash their hands with running water before eating and after going to the toilet (the teachers have added a fantastic health and hygiene component to their program where they teach skills such as hand washing and teeth brushing)
* 100 each of bowls, plates, cups, spoons and forks (a weekend nutritious lunch and life skills program has just started for the children)
* Play dough ingredients and containers to keep it in.
* many other small bits and pieces as needed, like rubbish bins.
Thank you, Tamara
This restaurant is a gem in a chilly Melbourne Saturday night. Great atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. I could see them keeping an eye on our table to make sure we were wanting for nothing. The entreès were delicious, with Crab spring rolls, flavoursome wantons and vegetable and prawn pastry cupcakes. Went together very well with a glass of Pinot and Apple/pear martini. The mains were specials: Prawn chilli curry and Barramandi in lemongrass/coriander broth. AMAZING! Together with muddled Lychee Martini a marriage made in heaven. We don't ever order dessert in Malaysian restaurants and asked for the bill. The lovely waitress brought the bill together with a Creme caramel desert, saying we would not regret this. We devoured the delectable creamy, rich, caramel dessert. Too embarassed to lick the plate.
Definately returning with a gang of friends to repeat the experience.
Generous serves -we couldn't finish everything! Well balaneed flavours.. Quick and friendly service. We'll definitely be back.
A modern twist on Malaysian classics. This is a wonderful Malaysian restaurant with a very friendly vibe. The menu consists of Blue Chillies' original take on authentic Malaysian cuisine and the result is quite impressive. Easily the best Malaysian restaurant I've been to in Melbourne.
Professional service with just enough engagement from the staff. Traditional yet modern menu. Food was prompt and fresh. Easily a regular favourite.
My favourite restaurant on Brunswick St. It's about time I wrote about Blue Chillies and share the love around. I love the warm and friendly atmosphere from the team headed up by Ricky, arguably the nicest host in Melbourne with the biggest smile. I bring my friends, family and overseas guests to this place. It is a guaranteed great dining night out. The food is mouth watering. Just thinking about the lohbak I had with friends last week followed by the rockling with egg floss (crowd pleaser), assam prawn curry, thrice cooked duck (yum!) and the pork ribs (show stopper!) is enough to have me booking my next trip to Blue Chillies. Try the specials or let Ricky take care of the menu for the evening. It is my favourite restaurant on Brunswick St.
Came in for dinner on Thursday and was reasonably pleased with the food and service. Tried the Pork ribs and thrice cooked duck and really liked it! Wine list could be improved on but overall a fine restaurant to go try out. Would definitely be back
Love it here. Food is always delicious and the service is fantastic.
Favourite dishes: hokkien noodles, seafood laksa, or the whitebait fritters...even the fish special...would totally recommend trying that. It's all so good. I've never been disappointed and have been going here for years.
Perfect place for a date or if u have a small group.
A delicate way of cooking malaysian food. Dishes were ordered to be shared. All was done in delicate way. Not typical kind of malaysian food you will get over in Melbourne. Pork spareribs and duck rendang was excel. Spareribs might be bit big in size and the ratio of fat and meat was half and half. Personally prefer smaller in size as that can be munched with chopstick. meat and fat ratio was just personal preference but the just right sauce with nicely fried spareribs bring the texture and taste up Well done!!! Rendang duck was good as the rendang filled with volume and aroma but the duck still stay bit chewy but tender. Believe that the duck was seared with rendang upon order but that create the balance as duck shouldn't be cooked too long. i'm lovin it :-)
My favourite asian restaurant! Truely!
