Review Yong Green Food - Fitzroy

Siddhartha Arumugam
Food was decent. Loved the dessert. But some improvements might help, i.e. not reusing the menu sheets. Ours were stained and made not too good a first impression when we sat down at our table...

Vegan restaurant with an interesting menu. It took a little while to get attention, and another little while for the dishes to come. We ordered king oysters calamari which is surprisingly good, the nacho is simple and healthy. The pad Thai is a refreshing cold sweet one but the tofu katsu needs a bit more love. Was meant to try the beer and Berry milkshake but they forgot to give us the drinks. The lovely 5'2" single-eyed chef was lovely, came over to have a quick chat while delivering our food and also cleared up the plates. Lovely gesture and even cracked a joke. He himself worths the star! The lady apologised for the night, I guess it is a big shoe to fill when the previous owners had done a great job setting the business up, running it well and setting the bar high. A lot more effort is needed to keep it up and definitely potential to improve. Parking is a little tricky outside that you'd need to either walk 100m to the left or right to pay, or you can use paystay app.

This place used to be amazing but appears to have changed ownership? So disappointed with our recent visit which was a birthday dinner for my son who chose this location based on previous visits. No music, lack of care in terms of decor and appearance. Took a while to be served by lethargic staff. Serving sizes were decent. Nachos were great, I have to say. Burger was very plain and ordinary for the price! We ordered dessert, and after a while we were told one of them were unavailable (the restaurant was mostly empty, so not sure what was taking so long). We got the sticky date pudding instead, which was served directly from the fridge and onto a plate. Nothing else. For $9, it was more like a very dry and hard muffin. It was inedible (kids ate half of it to be polite!). Told the staff they need to warm it up or something, but we were told they don't warm it up. I appreciate this is a family business, but it's really not appropriate to have a small child coming in and out of the kitchen and running about the dining room with a pram. I really hope things improve, as the concept of this restaurant was so great, but we won't be coming back anytime soon.

Had the most wonderful experience at Yong Green last night. My friend and I were served by Kashew (hope that's how you spell it) and it was the most attentive and friendly service we have has in a long long time. The lovely server took us through the menu so patiently (everything looked so good it was overwhelming) and gave us the best suggestions. The food was clean, fresh, healthy and huuuuge and we will definitely be back. Also - whatever you're paying this amazing man, it's not enough!!! 10/10 service :)

1st time eating here, would definitely not repeat. Ordered online and took the order 45 mins to be acknowledged so I ended up ordering something else as they were uncontactable. Did eventually get a text saying the food would be ready in 15, ended up being another 30 mins. As I had been waiting at the counter for 15 picked the food up ‘fresh’. Somehow though it was all cold through still - chucked it after one bite. Luckily I still had the other food from Veggie Mum down the road - which was great! Sorry if the restaurant is having a hard time due to Covid at the moment but I would definitely avoid…

The wait was over an hour, Teriyaki dish was not even warm and vegetables were cold on the inside, tasteless and plain. Dumplings were barely warm and falling apart. Not to mention the waitress lacks communication and basic customer service skills. When we flagged a dish being missing, she blamed me and said “I told you so earlier” when this was not the case and we had only been notified of an entree being unavailable. The entire establishment has gone downhill compared to when I visited a few years ago, extremely disorganised and kitchen was dirty. Very poor experience overall, do not recommend any longer. There are plenty of other establishments in Fitzroy offering vegan food that taste better, and have better service.

I used to think this place was amazing about 3 years ago but it seems like they’ve changed owners. The new owners have no idea about customer service. I took 5 of my friends here with the promise it was going to be amazing only to be so embarrassed by how bad the service was. We waited over an hour for our food to arrive even though the restaurant was almost empty. They actually served one of the dishes half an hour earlier than all our other dishes so after 20 minutes we took it back and asked if they could just keep it warm and serve it with the rest of the food at the same time which the chef didn’t look too happy about. We later approached wait staff twice to ask how long till our food was going to come out and both times were told “2 minutes” only for it to be at least 20 minutes after we spoke. When my food finally did come out I ordered the mapo tofu and it was the most blandest dish I’ve ever had, they also used firm tofu instead of soft tofu like what an authentic mapo tofu would actually be like. Definitely won’t be coming here again tbh, not worth starving for over an hour while anxiously wondering what’s happening and feeling embarrassed because you raved so much about the place. Seems like plenty of other reviewers in the last month have had the same experience.

Just don't go here. We waited for our food over an hour, service was horrible, food was average. After being ignored for 30 minutes we finally got to order, then one dish arrived and we waited another ten minutes to get cutlery for it. Two drinks never arrived, when the other mains arrived the first dish was luke warm. No apologies or explanation. Food, drinks and cutlery (after asking for it) was just slammed on the table. The staff knew no one enjoyed themselves. Why not give context to patrons and let people know that you're short on staff, the meals will be delayed by half a day and that the kitchen hadn't been cleaned in what looked like forever? Yuck. Save yourself time and money and have a better experience at vegie bar across the road. I really hope Yong picks up their act. They confirmed owners have changed and what was once a lovely vegetarian dining experience seems like a place run by frustrated men that don't want to be there and don't understand what this place was or should be like.

New favourite restaurant! I can't believe I'd not eaten here till now. I had the macro dragon bowl and the oyster mushroom calamari. Both blew my mind!

I’m down from Sydney visiting my daughter who’s vegan which means lots of eating out at vegan places. She said Yong is supposed to be the best, it was her first time there and after dinner we agreed, it is the best.

Had my first but definitely not last visit today. The food & service was great. The best tiramisu I have ever had. Thought the serving sizes were good and not over priced. Would highly recommend a visit.
Michaela Ryan
I was so disappointed. Ordered 3 dishes and they were all bland. 2 under cooked and one tasted frozen then overcooked. Doughy gyoza, still hard. Got them taken off the bill but left starving. Not the best birthday dinner.
Melinda Restrepo
Delicious!! Nourishing food, hearty, full of flavour. Loved the chickpea miso and dragon bowl. Hard to choose from so many delicious options!
Florencia Rodriguez
Love this place! Food is amazing and healthy. Highly recommend

Yong green nourishes every member of our family with delicious plant based cooked food, and the raw menu is absolutely devine xx
Jeremy Tarry
Great food. Definitely worth the expense. Service was a bit slow during the last visit, despite few customers
Michael Lee
Awesome and tasty wholesome food. Once of the best vegan places I've been to and everything is delicious.
Nadia Cao
Honestly the best vegan food I have ever eaten! And all the staff are soo kind ! and have amazing skin ahahahha
Neda Rahmani
I've tried Yong Green food several times and have experienced a great consistency and quality in all their dishes I absolutely love their green curry and their dragon bowl

Been eating here for years and after every meal I feel amazing. The food is so healthy, delicious and beautifully presented.

In between lock downs, we were lucky enough to head out to a good old favourite. Yong Green’s has been serving up delicious vegetarian cuisine for years, and is still going strong – despite all. With an Asian flare and everything meat-free. We were in for a treat. Cauliflower florets were battered with rice-flour, crumbed and fried, served with a chilli soy mayo. These delectable bites were crisp and more-ish with the tangy sauce.

Dishes ordered:<br/>- Cauli-pops 1/5<br/>- Mushroom calamari 2/5<br/>- Tofu katsu 1/5<br/>- Chicken teriyaki 2/5<br/><br/>The staff were welcoming enough and the dining area was pleasant and casual. However, unfortunately all 4 dishes were lacking. We ordered the cauli-pops and mushroom calamari to start. Both were dry, which we are still trying to figure out how deep fried cauliflower or mushrooms could be anything other than juicy?? The mushrooms were served with tomato sauce which did not pair well. Perhaps these could be served with wedges of lemon and mayonnaise instead. For the mains we ordered the tofu katsu and chicken teriyaki. Both were incredibly salty and way too sweet. The chicken teriyaki would have been a little nicer if the rice was served on the side. Since the rice was soaked in the sauce, we were unable to eat that either. Still gave the chicken a couple of points as the texture of the "chicken" pieces were very meaty and chewy. Was looking forward to this place because of the 4.6 rating, but unfortunately we will not be returning.

The fries were soggy and oily, the burger had no pattie instead they use loosely packed jackfruit and the Tofu Katsu is way too dense. <br/><br/>Although I must definitely appreciate the staff, they were gracious and generous.
David Tejada
As always the food is fresh and tasty but the service is terrible. Every time we need to wait for like 20 minutes to order our meals plus order entrees and comes in different times same with the main course. Looks like a circus the organisation and times for deliver the food to the tables. I probably don’t come back due this issue is every time we went there...

Yong green foods dishes were all very good. I came for my boyfriends birthday, and we booked the day before on zomato for 6 people. However, when we arrived they said we did not book, even though we had the confirmation email from zomato to show we had for that time and date. Luckly, they had room, as it wasn't too busy. The service wasn't great. It took at least 15mins for a server to come over and get our order. They also didn't explain how big the servings were. For 6 of us, we ordered 4 entrees and a main each. When in fact, the 4 entrees could've been enough feeding us all, with the addition of one main. It was a shame to see so much food wasted. It was good that we were able to take home some of the dishes in containers. The mock-beef did not have much seasoning or flavour, however, the tofu was very nice for protein substitutes. I would come back to see if the service was having an off day just because all the food was fantastic aside from the mock-beef, and it's very affordable now knowing how big the portions are.
Full Time Wholesomeness
Isolated at a hipster corner of Fitzroy along with a few other popular vegan eateries, this whimsical, modern and green ambience matches a secret hangout for vegan hunters as the layout of seats are casual and fun to have company with. The food on the menu are mostly Asian fusion with a twist of Korean style. Our favourite dish would be the oyster mushroom calamari with fresh tomato and aioli sauce. Coated with chickpea, rice batter and chia seeds, the resembling calamari was creamy, starchy, dense, a perfect delight companying with some spirit :)
Mofficial07
Food is OK, but other than that everything else was horrible. Booking was messed up, we did not get the call back when our table was ready. Food did not come out for one hour. No apologetic behaviour from the staff initially until we had to ask many many times where our food was!!!!!!!!!
Yuki Does Brunch
Came here with a few non-vegan friends and we all left full and happy from the delicious food. There were lots of options to choose from for any type of eater. I would recommend the Lime Crush drink or Watermelon Crush drink and the Udon noodles (although my friend's lentil curry looked so good too!) <br/>✨Pros: Food came out quickly, delicious drinks<br/>✨ Cons: Not really anything. The waitress did get out table confused with the one next to us a few times but we didn't care.
Food Comatose
Fast friendly service, great quality food and a cosy ambience. I always leave happy and full from this vegan gem. I’m also a big fan of their tempeh.
Cristina
Tried this place for the first time and it was amazing! Personally not a vegan but enjoy good vegan finds! Wanted to order everything on the menu but obviously couldn’t so will definitely be back to try others on the menu. Everything we ordered tasted amazing and was not one drop of disappointment. Even the drinks were amazing, got the espresso martini and it is one of the best I’ve ever had!! 😍 Highly recommend!

Yong Green has got to be one of my favourite places to eat in Melbourne. I’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu and it’s all really good. <br/>I’ve never been a huge fan of mock meat until I have it a try at Yong Green. The Teriyaki ‘Chicken’ is amazing! I’ve taken quite a few friends and family here when they come to visit Melbourne and they always rate the food highly too. <br/>Staff are so accommodating and friendly, I haven’t been able to fault the place yet. If you’re really wanting to dine here I highly recommend making a reservation so you don’t miss out.
Alex
Really enjoyed the oyster mushroom ‘ calamari ‘ and the kelp noodle pad Thai which were both really inventive and delicious . Although the pancake platter was really stodgy, bland and was the only poor note . Overall I still really enjoyed my experience .
Hannah Logan
Regularly eat at yongs!<br/>It's always so hard to choose because everything is delicious but i usually end up with the classic dragon bowl!<br/>The service is amazing and everything comes out so fast.

Ordered take away lunch <br/>Was a great healthy option when on a specific diet for food intolerances <br/>Heard about it from a friend so wanted to check it out <br/>Took a while for my food but was happy once I ate it

3.5<br/>The highlight from this dinner was probably the entrees - the mushroom calamari and the gyoza were both really yummy.<br/>The mains were generally good but nothing special - the fake beef was really good though.<br/>A few of us also ordered mango lassies and they were really disappointing and had no flavour.<br/>Overall it was an okay experience but I probably wouldn't come back since there are so many other options in the area.

If you want healthy delicious vegetarian food, this is a must go place. I ordered the zuchinni lasagna, kimchi dumplings and Jap chae, they all tasted great. Staff is also friendly and helpful when I ask some questions. Worth going all the way to Fitzroy to try this place. Komawoyo!

Enjoyed our meals here tonite. We ordered macro bowl, udon bowl and japchae. All lovely especially the japchae. Finished off with peanut butter brownie with soy ice cream. Delicious. Staff were very helpful.
Denise Lim
Cauli pops are a must!!! Always back to try the different vegan options! Just a bit on the pricier side which doesn’t have us coming back as often as we would like to.

Came here with a group of friends for a catch up mid week. Really liked the vibe of the place. Good thing we made a booking though because it got real busy at one point. The food was really good. I'm not vegetarian but I do enjoy the way they did the food. Loved the fried cauliflower for entree was a stand out.
Terri
Loved this place! Amazing innovative menu, really enjoyed the oyster mushroom calamari, rawsagna, kelp pad Thai and raspberry cheesecake! Beautiful! Wish we had something as good as this in Perth.
Melissa O'Dwyer
We have been a couple of times here and the service is variable depending on whom you encounter but we encountered some hospitable people. The food quality seems to have slightly declined lately in terms of spices and flavour profiles. The ambience is not sophisticated and the tables are a little too close for comfort but a lot of people do not mind it. I found it a cross between a cafe and restaurant setting. <br/><br/>The food is not original in concept but above average in taste. The green curry was not spicy at all and was like salty coconut milk with a hint of chilli even though I requested extra spice. The same applied to the lentil hotpot although what can you expect with crossing cultures. There was a lack of authenticity in the mexican dishes. The Dragon bowl was average in punchiness and quantity over quality. The rawsagna was good and a nice balance of subtle flavour without over doing it on the grains that get stuck in your teeth. What is generous is the vegetables. However other dishes seem to have an overwhelming proportion of cheap rice and not enough sauce. The cauliflower nori was good for something healthy and grain and carb free in an alternative to sushi but again lacked flavour. Everything is good but just needs to go that little bit further in herbs and spices. The desserts are good and silky in texture but overpriced for something I can do in my blender. <br/><br/>The matcha latte was good as it was the real deal and not a pre-mix and not overly sweet. The drinks menu is excellent for options and vegan friendly ideas. Good effort here.<br/><br/>Would recommend this place as above average and accessible healthiness taking on traditional concepts and veganising them. Don't go here if you have a soy allergy though.

Consistently excellent. I get eat here fairly regularly and it’s always fresh and delicious. I love the variety. Staff are always great, food transports well for take away too. Highly recommend!

Amazing vegetarian restaurant. Lots of flavour and very high quality dishes. Service was also great, lots of friendly smiles. The watermelon soju and the teriyaki chicken was really yummy. I recommend booking ahead of time as they get busy. Loved the food will definitely be back soon.

This place is amazing! The food is light and yet filling, with an amazing Korean staff on hand so not only is the service impeccable but the taste is authentic. Cannot tell you how much I love this place, definitely try the silken tofu spicy soup and the Kim chi pancakes!
Melissa Kate
What this place does with vegetarian and vegan foods has to be seen to be believed. I had never tasted anything like their Kimchi Dragon Bowl and it is still my favourite vegetarian dish! Cashew cream, brown rice, wheat chicken, slaw and of course Kimchi. Everything felt so healthy and cleansing...and the flavour!!! Treat all the vegetarians in your life and take them to this great little establishment.

The staff were really friendly and the restaurant is very spacious. Love all the dishes we had here. I'm usually a meat lover but these dishes amaze me!
Hungry Caterpillar 🥑
AMAZING! I went with 6 other people who were all meat eaters yet they still devoured everything we ordered and loved it. Really good vegan menu, loved the variety. Also loved that they have no garlic/onion options. I usually take photos for the review but the food just looked too good to wait. Will definitely be back to try more on the menu!
Ironic Foodie
I’m honestly surprised at the high rating. I’ve been dying to try this place, due to its great wrap in the vegan community (not that I am one, but I have many a friend who are). Service was average and food was actually pretty bland. I ordered the buckwheat crepes, because I’m GF and make a mean buckwheat pancake myself, but these were quite rubbery and awkward to eat. I also got a side of tempeh as my protein and it was pretty standard marinated tempeh, but the tamari sauce was so bland, there was barely a hint of sesame. The highlight of my meal was the rice beer! All in all, I think you’re better off at the Vegie bar to be honest.
Anna
Although it wasn't very authentic Korean food, the fact that this Korean(?)/Asian restaurant is vegan is a huge plus. It was delicious. We ordered the pancake platter, pho, katsu, kimchi dumplings, and "tuna". Loooooved the dumplings, but I love anything kimchi and also anything dumpling so it was a pretty easy one for me. The pancakes were tasty too but quite oily, which made it hard to eat so much of it. Tuna was meh but the rest were quite nice so would definitely recommend this place.
Perry
Went here few days ago with my friend to have dinner. I’ve had Thai Green Curry with Tofu, while he had his burger with sweet potato chips and a hot chocolate. 😆 <br/><br/>Have to say that green curry is quite spicy 🌶 but the food was good!

I don't get the hype about this place. We (about 10 of us) came here on a Thursday night, and it was maybe half full. Service was generally efficient, but not once did the right meal or drink get to the right person. We constantly had to send the order down the table to the correct person. And can I say to the wait staff, an occasional smile wouldn't go astray!<br/><br/>So, to the food. I'm not sure how to rate it as an omnivore. I mean, it's alright. I had the kimchi dragon bowl, with tempeh and chili paste (gochujang), which came with chickpea miso. The serving was huge, but somewhat flavourless. Thank god for the gochujang! The miso was also okay, just lacking the saltiness normally provided by the bonito. Surely there's a vegan alternative? Soy sauce, maybe? Anyway, the consensus from the omnivores was "meh" and the consensus from the vegans was "greatest meal ever", so the truth is probably somewhere in between.<br/><br/>To sum up, there's much better vegan and vegetarian food to be had elsewhere. I can make vegan food at home that has much more flavour, which completely defeats the point of eating out.<br/><br/>Won't be rushing back
Miss T.A
It was my second time here . I sampled my friend’s sweet potato noodles and they were delicious . I ordered myself the tofu katsu. The tofu patty itself was a decent size and full of flavour . A bit pricey but staff was very attentive.
Rhiannon
The first few times I went here, the food was exceptional. it was fresh and tasty.<br/><br/>But unfortunately, the past two times I have been here, food hasn't been fresh, has taken ages and was a let down.<br/><br/>There has been a recent menu change, taking two of my favorite items off the menu and increasing the price.<br/><br/>The tea pot ($6) had one tea bag...
SJFU
I’ll say this time and time again: Yong’s oyster mushroom calamari is one of the best things to eat in Fitzroy. Not oily, with a crunch to die for. Worth every cent. <br/><br/>My Yin and Yang Charger reminded me strongly of an incredible vegan platter I had in Kyoto last year. That platter and the Charger share a well-balanced yet diverse array of flavours and textures, made with ingredients you can savour the quality of. The miso soup is one of the best I've ever had, packed with that sweet, sweet umami.<br/><br/>Service varies a bit from fine to friendly. <br/><br/>Their ambience is not my favourite. It has this half-finished feel and adds nothing to your experience. Although you could say its appropriate for a place that screams humble but dedicated to the food. You'll leave feeling incredibly healthy and totally satisfied.
Demi-Rose Karibian
I love Yongs, I’ve been coming here for many years. The buckwheat crepes & the macro bowls are a must have. The customer service is always excellent too. If you love fresh & healthy food that is full of flavour you won’t be disappointed.
Captain Tofu 💪🌱☘️🍀
10/10. Everything about this place has amazed me. Food is jam packed full of flavour. Portion sizes are big. EVERYTHING CAN BE MADE VEGAN. Also vegan cheesecakes. Do I need to say more??
Vivian
I'm not sure what the hype is about this place , I headed here with my friend as they were on a vegetarian or vegan diet and because of such high ratings we were keen to try it out. The food is asian inspired as although I commend them on catering to GF , Vegetarian, Vegan and numerous other dietary requirements the food we found was bland. Everything lacked flavor and it made the meal especially for me ( a meat eater) really dissatisfied. <br/><br/>There are so many other places around Fitzroy or Melbourne that are meatless that do it so much better , I would definitely give this a pass next time around
The Gluten-Free Foodie
Every time I eat here I love it a little more. The mushroom calamari are my absolutely favourite. The dishes are inventive, yummy and good for your gut. The atmosphere is lighthearted and while a little tight on a Fri/Sat the feel is consistent with the cuisine.
Lisa Ann
super fast service with a smile and beautiful staff whom are extremely willing to please. the menu offers amazingly creative options with variations to suit individual liking. the portion sizes were very generous, mixing together perfect combinations of flavours and textures. my tummy left feeling happy, full and ready to come back again soon!!
Ignatia
We were very keen to try Yong Green that we came in 12pm sharp and were the first customer of the day. We ordered kimchi dragon bowl (half wheat chicken and half tofu with tahini sauce), and lentil hot pot. When the latter came to our table, we were a bit surprised because we expected it to be a soup.... lol it’s the name but that’s okay. I liked my kimchi dragon bowl, and the portion is big that I had to take away mine (which is good because I could save it for dinner).
Melbourne To Mouth
Absolutely loved this place and its shot to the top of my favourite vegan places in Melbourne. The Korean pancakes and sushi rolls as entrees were huge meal sized serves on their own. Followed up by the green curry with tofu and wheat chicken teriyaki which were both packed with heaps of flavour, we were so full by the end! Highly recommend an espresso martini with almond milk as a great cocktail option. This is now my definitely go-to Vegan place in Melbs!

Came here a few days ago. After seeing such a high rating I thought this place would be fantastic but I was a bit disappointed. It was a busy Friday night, and staff were not attentive to the tables around them, and waited over 30 minutes to take our order. I got the pad Thai which was not what I was expecting, cold, spicy without much flavour, and quite overpriced for what was on my plate (20$). My friend had the green curry which she enjoyed. We then had the white chocolate and dark chocolate cheesecakes, the dark chocolate was good but white chocolate lacked flavour and was hard. <br/>Overall I found the food a little overpriced for the meal itself and service needs improvement, not sure I'd come here again.
2wo Fat Girls
So this is definitely one restaurant that I do NOT understand the hype of. After reading amazing reviews on Zomato about how they’ve managed to procure delicious Asian-inspirsed dinners from all vegetarian ingredients, I was expecting an interesting and unique dining experience but was completely disappointed. I found this place overpriced for what it’s worth despite I understand that they use “healthy, organic ingredients” but it’s just a waste of such good quality stuff. Overall, the flavours merely just weird and didn’t really work for me at all. Am I missing something here? Because I don’t understand at all why the rating of this restaurant is so high and why there would be lines during peak period.
Iris Myandowski
To set the scene: it's stupid climate change hot in Melbourne. I've somehow been peer pressured into too many beers. Everything is bad. Everything is wrong. Nothing will be good again...and then...a bowel of dragon bowl perfection is placed in front of me and the world is sweet and good again.
This Diner Is Anonymous
I struggled to make sense of this menu. Mexican? Thai? Italian? Indian? It's a strange combo of all. I ended up having the Thai green curry, which was really nice. Pretty standard green curry with vegetables and tofu. It was pretty pricey at $19. The kimchi dumplings were excellent, as was the oyster mushroom "calamari" (why restaurants insist on using meat names is a mystery to me). Overall, it was a nice dining experience. I think Vegie Bar across the road has a little more ambience and better decor for around the same price.
Ferry Gondo
Tried this place because I was intrigued by the number of high ratings and reviews. Struggled to make sense what makes the food spectacular. Sure the tofu and fried mushroom are nice, but the rest is simply a fresh salad of fruit and vegetables. Quite pricey as well. Maybe it is just me who don't get the art of appreciating 'green food'.
Ferris Wheel Flight
Although gluten free and vegan foods are on the rise in Melbourne, it is surprisingly difficult to find a restaurant that offers a broad range of both gf and vegan options. That’s where Yong Green Food comes in. It caters to almost every dietary requirement under the sun, with a handy colour coded menu. The chilled ambiance and roomy tables also made it a great place to catch up with visiting out of towners and friends.
Jason Koh
Food was served promptly. Service crew was very polite and ambience very cosy. Would come back again. Location is easy to find and although place was crowded, we were found a table within 10minutes which was a pleasant surprise

Highly recommend this place 👌🏻. I would say this is definitely one of my favourite vegetarian and vegan places in town. We ordered the oyster mushroom calamari, japchae and macro dragon bowl which was very delicious, flavourful and fragrant. However for dessert, we had tiramisu which tasted a bit weird. Leaves a very unpleasant taste <br/><br/>Food- 9/10 <br/>Service-9/10 <br/>Ambience - 7/10 <br/>Overall- 8/10

Awesome!!! Awesome ambience for meal with friends after a long day. Food is fantastic! Will come again for sure! Must try for all vegan or vegetarian food hunters.

Good place to eat, especially if you are vegetarian and appreciate Asian food. Located in a trendy suburb of Melbourne, this is a better class of vegetarian establishment in terms of serving delicious, clean, tummy-pleasing and healthy food for vegetarians and vegetarian-food appreciative persons and really anyone that enjoys healthy and delicious food. This place was busy when I visited. Beware of parking inspectors if parking nearby, otherwise - would recommend to people looking for something different and tasty compared to the usual greasy burger joints in this area.

Beautiful cause and community. Can be quite pricey but you are getting tasty, clean food that caters to vegetarian, vegan, and raw vegans.<br/>Enjoyed even by my father, a meat-eater!
Ilovevegetarianmelbourne
Very healthy food, unfortunately i'm not as keen as others when it comes to healthy bowls... however i was still very surprised by the good taste in their food.

Ordered: <br/>🥘Spicy silken tofu stew (v, gf): biodynamic silken tofu cooked in chilli broth and various vegetables, topped with enoki mushroom and kizami nori. Served with biodynamic brown rice ($19) <br/><br/>Review: <br/>✖️For a place that’s rated so highly, I expected a lot of flavour or something WOW. Instead, this food choice was bland and dull with a spicy kick here and there. <br/>At least it made me feel really full! <br/><br/>Regarding the atmosphere, they've really westernized the place but it's no surprise since it's closer to the heart of Fitzroy. Considering they've focused on Asian cuisine with a predominantly Asian waitstaff, I expected more traditional utensils such as chopsticks and more self service, but that was all replaced by spoons and forks and really attentive waitresses.  <br/><br/>Personally it was not for me but clearly a favourite for other reviewers.
Jade Holloway
Went here for a change instead of Veggie Bar (across the road from Yong Green Food). Afew items on the menu weren't available which was disappointing. Overall the meal I was able to have was decent (Tofu Teriyaki), service was friendly, price reasonable. Was worth going to for something different but Veggie Bar but still takes the cake!

Waited around 15-20 mins for food- tempeh had a funny aftertaste, curry was good and the food overall was pretty ok but not amazing. Nice interior and the staff were efficient.
Jhart1756
Expensive but delicious. Always go here when i'm feeling like a clean meal- great fresh vegetarian food. Could almost convert me to being 100% vego- if only they came to my house to cook everyday.
Steven Gu
Yong green food. Healthy modern cuisine with Asian fusion. Nice curry with bean curd and cakes. Very low carbs and healthy food. Cosy environment to try.
Pushpa K
Perfectly located vegan restaurant in Fitzroy... I liked the watermelon soju drink ... enjoyed Hawaiian pizza and the vegan Tiramisu. Taste was good but did not taste much like coffee .. it might need more coffee. Pho was ok.. Dragon bowl and dumplings were my favourite... Good customer service 😊
KH
Healthy at it's best. With some meaty flavour. Ordered the Yin&Yang, teriyaki chicken rice, soy tuna side and matcha crepe. All were very delicious. To those who love to eat soy meats, this is your heaven place to be. The highlight is the teriyaki chicken. A must order if you go there! The matcha crepe is lacking some flavour on its own, but with the chia seeds sauce, is actually not too bad. The soy tuna was a good side dish to try, worth to order too. Those who been before and didn't like it, give yourself another try for the teriyaki chicken.

My boyfriend absolutelly loves Yong Green... his fave restaurant of all time, so we come here sometimes... but not always, because I am not the biggest fan. I love the atmosphere and staff and the menu does look appetising, but the mock meat terrifies me as it is so realistic and I find a lot of the flavours are ones I dont regularly eat or like that much. It is nore the fault of my taste buds than Yong Green... However, I will never forget eating the rawsagna from here and raw caramel slice. They saved the day! It has been a while since I have been back, writing this review, I feel like visiting again+

We enjoyed the dinner there. We like the dragon bowl and dessert the most. Although I am not a vegan, the food was really tasty. I always thought I would not like brown rice as I have been accustomed to Thai jasmine rice, here changed my view. <br/><br/>We will be back to try more different things for sure.

Easily one of the best food places within Melbourne. <br/>The food is so fresh and you feel good as you eat it, that kimchi bowl tho and the teriyaki chicken was incredible.

Wow I can't believe there is a line here. I can't even begin to describe how much I disliked the experience (I went up the road and got a kebab after so that may be some indication). I'm obviously not as hashtag healthy as I like to think I am. This was my first time trying fermented beverages, embracing my inner Miranda I ordered the kombucha. I promptly spat $6 worth of organic probiotics back into the glass. You couldn't give me Evan Spiegel's millions to drink that again. It was about this time I started to realise that that horrific smell permeating the restaurant was wafting out of the fridge every time it opened. The fridge that no doubt housed those God awful drinks and probably whatever we were about to eat. We had the great delight of being seated right next to said fridge too. What ambiance that created. Fearful I went the safe route and ordered the vegan nachos. It became crystal clear to me how sad life must be without real cheese. We were outta there. I guess I'm not the target market for this kind of venue but if you are going in thinking this is Veggie Bar 2.0 you will be gravely mistaken

Great service, great food, great staff<br/>Went here with my completely non vegan family who loved all of the food here. And I have some very picky members of my family

Been here twice now and each time it's been great. <br/><br/>The food comes out quick and it's tasty! I love the chickpea korma - it inspired me to have a go myself at home.<br/><br/>Service is lacking - once you're seated your lucky to see a waiter that isn't clearing up another table or seating other patrons. Our order was finally taken and then we had to change it twice because the waitress didn't realise that our chosen dishes were sold out.

Never really noticed this place, yesterday my friend said it was recommended to her for vegetarian food (she is vegetarian). We went at around 8pm on Friday night, they first said there was a 10-minute wait on a table but then there was a table available straight away anyway. <br/><br/>We shared the raw pizza, one of the bowls and a noodle dish with tofu. All the food tasted really crisp and healthy. It was enough and yum. Had a glass of riesling and my friend had the syrah. The wines were good too.<br/><br/>Service was nothing special, but nothing wrong with it either.

Always delicious and our food come out so quickly! The nachos are great to share and the fried kimchi dragon bowl is worth every penny! The cold saki was quite a surprise that is worth trying *warning* can be strong! The chocolate vegan cheese cake tastes smooth like a mousse which just melts in your mouth without being overly sweet. My favourite place!

Food is always on point. I'm a regular and have never been disappointed by the good or the service. Highly recommend Yong's for quality, wholesome food.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! 😍 <br/><br/>As a huge fan of greens and all healthy stuffs, this place really satisfied my needs! <br/><br/>Got the dragon bowl (tofu, brown rice, miso soup, assorted veggies, and gochujang paste)! It was so good! The portion was just right and the composition of the bowl was perfect! <br/><br/>My friend got the special of the week- Yin and Yang platter. She loved it! (Especially the gochujang tofu skewer)<br/><br/>Will definitely go back to try more of their menu! Loved it!

Been meaning to try this place for a while and overall was pleased but probably would opt for a different choice of meal next time. <br/><br/>I didn't want anything heavy for lunch on this day in particular and heard good things about the dragon bowls so decided on the dragon macro bowl however in hindsight given it was a chilly day I should have gone for something a little warmer like the green curry, lentils or the pho which all sounded and probably taste delicious. I found it was a lot of rice and chopped vegetables, which were yummy but after a few mouthfuls became quite dense. <br/>The chickpea miso that came with it though was a lovely accompaniment.<br/><br/>We also got the chilli bean nachos which were really good and a winner for both of us. <br/><br/>I would definitely recommend trying the super latte which, some may shy away from due to the mushroom aspect BUT I found it didn't taste anything like mushrooms. Instead, probably the best way to describe it is a raw hot chocolate, not overly sweet but due to the presence of the cocoa, sweet enough and certainly tasty. <br/><br/>Overall I'd definitely come back and try something else and would recommend it as a spot for anyone looking for a wholesome, veggie feed !
Food-ing
Was in the Fitzroy area and Yong Green Food had a high rating so decided to pop in for some lunch. Staff were friendly but service wasn't the best. Took us three times to ask for water before it came. Ordered a bloody tonic but was told they didn't have apple so I ordered the immune booster instead (which also contains apple...). Go figure. For food, we got the Japanese curry and the pho. The Japanese curry was nice. It had flavour, the texture was good, the veggies were cooked well however, the sliced soy beef was tough and chewy and did not taste pleasant at all. The pho was lacking in flavour. I understand that it's not your traditional Vietnamese beef pho but there was no flavour in the broth. The soy beef again was chewy and tough. The mushrooms were a nice touch in the pho however not enough to make up for the lost flavours. Also, $17 for a bowl of pho is a bit steep. Overall, the experience did not match the high rating the restaurant has.

Longing for much needed greens? Well yong green food is the place to be! This is one of our most favourite vegan and vegetarian places in Melbourne. Situated in the trendy Fitzroy, yong greens delivers fresh, scrumptious and healthy meals! <br/><br/>We shared the crisp and silky tofu skewer - a great starter dish. The must have lentil hotpot with organic chickpeas cooked in spices with tomato sauce and smoked eggplant and served with brown rice! And the tasty stir fried kimchi dragon bowl with brown rice, kimchi, seaweed, shiitake and probiotic lemon tahini sauce, served with their home made chickpea miso soup - this dish was the highlight-must try dish! And to top it off we had the raspberry white chocolate cheesecake made with organic raw ingredients. <br/><br/>Go and do it for your bellies 😉!<br/>
Vivian Tran
One of the best vegan/ vegetarian eateries in Melbourne!<br/><br/>Delicious, hearty and flavoursome food with generous portions and reasonably priced. I've even taken some of my meat-eating friends there who absolutely love Yongs! Who said vegetables were boring?<br/>And I love that the menu caters for gluten, garlic and onion intolerances and no sugar options.<br/><br/>My only "complaint" would be that I don't live close enough to eat here everyday ❤
Elly Renouf
Me and partner went here for dinner a couple of weeks ago, the food was amazing and the service was excellent ! we will definitely be back 😋😋🤤🤤
Pjgirl
Healthy, vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant with Asian inspired dishes. Even carnivores can find a decent meal here without the craving of feeling the need to eat meat. I had the macro dragon bowl which was nice but I'm not sure I'd have that again as it was quite bland.
Dj Meowmeow
No longer making rawsagna? The best and most popular dish they had? Must be new owners. Came here tonight but left after discovering it's no longer on the menu and the menu is now so different and nothing looked good enough. Sorry but bring it back man.
Useyourillusion
Fast, tasty, healthy and fresh. This restaurant ticks a lot of important boxes. Had a great meal here this evening - chickpea korma was filling and delicious washed down with a tasty home made juice of orange and ginger.
Kristine Reimers
Omg! This place is amazing. Staff were lovely and food was perfection. Can't wait to try more things on the menu. Plenty of veg and vegan options
Vonlutge
I don't usually eat vegetarian / vegan food but this place was amazing! beautiful food and atmosphere. Would highly recommend! Had the Pho and green curry. And immune booster to drink! Too good. Will definitely be back!!!
Sharna Lee
Really impressed! The oyster mushroom calamari was probably the best thing I've eaten in a long time. We had the macro dragon bowl & Japanese curry - flavour was great. Best of all, I think I'd be able to take non-vegan people there & they'd really enjoy the offerings. Love how clearly labelled everything is (GF V). Left very full with happy tummies! Staff were polite, fast service, we'll be back!

I am very impressed with Yong Green Food. It exceeded my expectations. The photos on Zomato made me think the food was going to look very green and boring but I was proven wrong. <br/><br/>We ordered the Tofu Katsu and the Dragon Bowl. The Dragon Bowl at first looked like it contained lots of lettuce but thankfully that wasn't the case. The soy beef was very convincing and looked like real beef! It still shocks me that we have gotten to the point where we have been able to create fake meats that look and taste like the real thing. How is this possible??? The beef did taste a bit plain but tasted very good with the flavoursome chilli paste. <br/><br/>The Tofu Katsu was the highlight. So much flavour!! This proves that tofu can contain a lot of flavour!! <br/><br/>I also had the Watermelon Soju Crush but it didn't really taste alcoholic. It was very pretty but maybe would not recommend it.
Notevenpicky
Why is there such high ratings!?!? I was severely disappointed and to frankly put it... it was terrible from the meals to dessert. I am not much of a veggie person but my mum is and most of it was inedible. (To me) We just left the dessert because it was so sweet and tasted literally just of coconut sugar. (Tiramisu cheesecake) The dishes was flavourless, if you think just adding a dressing on top is a way to make things taste good... ummm it's not. The staff was nice but price extremely overpriced for some uncreative , bland vegetables.
Affogato Addiction
Interesting menu. But a bit on the pricey side.<br/>Matcha crepes are served only warm, ok taste but was a bit underwhelming. Very popular place so will need to book.
VegTreats
Excellent range of options. I really appreciated how the restaurant was relatively health concious and offered a nutritionally abundant range of vegan and vegetarian food. Although, the chicken burger was rather oily and the fake chicken was questionable! I found that the bowls were a little overpriced for what they presented, considering they were 70% rice, but they provided a fantastically aesthetic photo opportunity! Lovely atmosphere but not particularly outstanding in contrast to competing Brunswick joints.
J0yy173
I'm an Omnivore but in this place I was perfectly content to be a herbivore. I never knew Oyster Mushroom Calamari could be so good! The deep fried mushroom in rice and chickpea batter was better than most real calamari versions I've ever had. The Japchae was sweet potato noodles pan fried with various vegetables. There was a sweetness in the savoury dish that made me want another mouthful and another mouthful. My friend's Japanese Curry was outstanding - fragrant, flavoursome and filling. The hearty dish is ideal for the upcoming cold weather.<br/>Efficient service in a well lit space with some interesting focal points. Take a moment and look up.
Bobby
I don't know why it took me so long to go here.  They have so many excellent options - everything looks so tasty.  The beer menu is great too.<br/><br/>Great atmosphere (although a little loud), quick service, good food and price is about spot on.
Jean-Baptiste
Scrumptious dinner, every thing was excellent and refreshing, had <br/>- oyster mushrooms calamari , coming with a delicious cashew aioli<br/>-cumcumber salad<br/>-Thai green curry <br/>Every thing was vegan, even the drinks, to go with the meals we tried a Pinot noir and a Riesling<br/>Very good experience <br/>Recommend it!!!!
Adam
I couldn't be happier that Yongs has been so successful in Brunswick st as it is one of my favourite diners in Melbourne. Everything I've eaten has been superb but personal favourites are the tuna wrap and the king mushroom calamari. It gets busy and at times noisy, but the food is worth it and all without an animal screaming anywhere in the food chain to provide you with a nutritious meal. A must visit.
Zoe L
Kim Chi Dragon Bowl was exactly what I needed, fresh and full of flavour. The miso was delicious, well balanced and not too salty. Highly recommend Yong Green Food.
Stelly
Came to Yong Green Food with a few friends, and we were definitely impressed! They're food was very fresh and high quality, which is probably why it's quite on the pricey side. Overall, a great place, but wish it wasn't so pricey:(
Papapon
Really nice food and customer service! Really enjoy my Sat brunch in this nice atomosphere! I Will definitely recommend this place to all the foodies!<br/>
Thea Tran
The oyster mushroom calamari and the lemon crush was absolutely beautiful. The raw Hawaii pizza and kimchi tofu bowl was tasty. My boyfriend who leans on the omnivore side says that he'd come here again. The only down side is that tables are too small and the bowls and drinks become a hassle to move around. Would visit again!
Sophia McCabe
Friendly staff greeted us as we entered, seated us quickly with water to the table immediately. Good came out super fast - Amazing food, a variety of flavours, fresh and not oily or over cooked.
Charlie Jenn Lian Ng
The best vegan spot I've ever been. Inspiring wholefood menus and delicious combinations. <br/>I am definitely coming back when I visit Melbourne again!
Elle Belle
I ordered the "Ying Yong" which is a selection of side dishes with rice & cauliflower miso. This was delicious AMAZING. Just the right amount of each thing. I would order this again as it changes with the seasons. <br/>I'm gluten intolerant and I've been eating less / no animal products lately as they are disagreeing with me. This place had so many options for me - amazing.
Abbey Baldacchino
Amazing food and a fantastic atmosphere! It's so hard being vegan finding places that offer you such a large and wonderful variety and Yong Green Food did not dissapoint!!
Lotus Chandra
Easily one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. Have never received a poorly constructed dish, whether dine in or takeaway. And no matter how much I eat in any sitting, I'm still left feeling light and satisfied.
Vanilla Stener
I just ordered the black bean fried noodles via Uber eats... It had absolutely no flavour and I don't call those noodles fried  - but instead they were incredibly slimy!! I actually could not eat it, only the very few veggies (bean sprouts) on top, but instead I had the rice from my husband's dish (ordered elsewhere).  He refused to eat it too. Very disappointing as I have had food at their restaurant and it has been amazingly delicious. This was uneatable. :(
Mareena
oh god...this place is insane! An absolute gem. Only downside...always very busy!! Food AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Quite loud inside, but nothing too much to detract from experience. Anything tastes good! Great try (even if youre not vegan/vegetarian) simply amazing
Kath's Food Indulgences
The food was light and satisfying!<br/><br/>Unfortunately I didn't feel like I should've ordered my dish (stir fried tofu) - it is something I could make at home for a lot cheaper, albeit my version wouldn't be vegan. I understand making food vegan does come with extra costs, so I find the restaurant's price something I can deal with. I enjoyed the rice they had underneath the tofu and vege as well as the toppings!<br/><br/>My friend's japchae special was definitely tasty - it did make me wish I ordered hers!<br/><br/>This restaurant is a great vegan restaurant for those wanting to have Asian dishes - not many restaurants can do dishes to meet vegan dietary requirements.<br/><br/>I found the customer service a bit of a miss. My order was originally taken incorrectly. My correct order came out quickly after though. However there was one waiter that definitely looked as if he didn't want to be there serving people and made me feel like I didn't want to have to ask him for anything - which is definitely not what a customer should feel like...

Yongs is a vegetarian, vegan and gluten free double fronted shop restaurant, on tram route 11 stop 17, situated on Brunswick street in Fitzroy. It is simply decorated in orange tones with designs painted on the walls, wooden tables, clean amenities and an open kitchen. I went with a group of 7 hungry foodies and we weren't disappointed. The menu was vast. We had Nachos , the yin and yang charger, Mock chicken wrap (which was huge and you would have never known it wasn't chicken $12), Mock Tuna Nori Roll, Macro Dragon Bowl and Japanese Curry. The meals were well balanced and the flavours were amazing. The only comments that were made is that the vegetables in the Japanese curry needed to be cooked a little more (which is a personal preference) and that we had to ask for salsa to accompany the nachos for that extra bit of freshness but the Nacho were fabulous. I found the prices reasonably priced ranging from $6 - $20. Well worth a visit even for the carnivore and we will be returning.

A very funky vegan option in a very funky neighbourhood is Yong Green Food, which does an Asian twist alongside a diverse and interesting menu. Unlike what our CEO says, there’s not too much diversity in here. I’ve headed over to Yong Green Food a few times now, with a work group as well as checking it out with a vegetarian-minded friend. Service is very polite and the restaurant has a nice, homely feel. The food has a pleasant vibrancy and the orders come out looking like its been prepared with detail and care.
Mo
Mostly vegan restaurant and heaps of options. Had trouble choosing but decided on the pho (but pricey at $17 though) because the table next to me had it and it was really nicely presented. It was just ok. My friend had the "chicken" and enjoyed the meal (though it wasn't presented as prettily as my meal). Very easy to get a table at 7pm on a Saturday so bonus points for that, and the staff were very attentive. They do not split bills and have an eftpos minimum.
Little Pink Piggy
I went for dinner at Yong with my boyfriend on a Sunday night. Yum! We ordered three mains between the two of us. Japanese curry, Thai green curry and the black bean noodles. All were flavoursome and tasty. The noodles were my least favourite due to the saltiness and the thick gluggy sauce. Total bill was $55 which is probably a bit overpriced for the quality if the food. Seating is also a bit cramped. Good service. Love the concept. Will be back.
JLN
Brunswick street is a vegans dream and Yong Green Food is no exception. <br/>For starters I ordered the pizza and for the main the dragon bowl. <br/>The pizza was in a small, rectangular portion, however it tasted excellent and I only wish it was in a bigger size. <br/>The dragon bowl was also very tasty and I left with a satisfied feeling in my stomach. <br/>The mock chicken tasted very similar to real chicken too and whilst I have little experience with vegan restaurants, will definitely come back again to try other options
Caitlin Monnery
Literally the worst service I have ever had. The food was good but not enough to out way the long wait, numerous mistakes and huge price tag.<br/><br/>Went here for dinner in a group of four. We all ordered mains, a selection of sides/snacks as entrees and watermelon soju crush cocktails. The waiter had a bit of trouble understanding us so we pointed to everything on the menu we wanted to order. He asked if we wanted our entrees first which we said we did.<br/><br/>Two of the mains and two of the entrees came out first. One of the mains was the wrong dish so had to be sent back.  While sending back the incorrect meal we ordered another plate of quinoa fritters. These arrived pretty quickly but none of our other food showed up. Our original waiter who took our order came over and asked if we were waiting on anything. We explained we were still waiting on two mains and 3 entrees. He said they would be coming soon. We ordered 3 more soju cocktails and a glass of wine, asking if the soju's could be a bit stronger this time. The soju's arrived but no wine. After waiting for about 10 minutes I asked one of the waitresses where it was and she went and got it for me. Still no more food.<br/><br/>Throughout this whole time we had tried to make eye contact with any of the staff, either to check on our food order or to try to order more drinks but it was almost impossible to get their attention. Finally the last two mains arrived, I would say about 30 minutes after the original ones. We still had to wait about 10 more minutes to get the rest of our entrees.<br/><br/>When we went to pay we found out our first 'cocktails' has actually been non-alcoholic and we had been charged $8 each for a small glass of blended watermelon. Our total bill ended up being $220 for 4 juices, 3 cocktails, 1 glass of wine, 4 mains, 4-5 entrees, and two hours of mostly waiting around watching bags and bags of Uber eats go out the door before our (what we thought would be relatively simple) order arrived.<br/><br/>I thoroughly appreciate their menu and dedication to healthy plant based food but there is no way I will ever be coming back after that experience.

Had the macro dragon bowl which was amazing! Tasted so fresh and healthy, with generous portions of vegetables, tofu and the peanut sauce which was delicious. Also had the raspberry white choc cheesecake, and i loved it! Honestly tasted like real cheese, smooth silky texture. Definitely coming back for more.
Elderblood
If you think eating healthy must be equivalent to munching on bland salads or chewing lifeless chicken breasts, well then think again. I was so impressed that this humble local restaurant could put so much creativity into their dishes to satisfy the health-conscious foodies. The "Rawsagna" was simply genius! Who'd have thought of layering zucchini, mushroom, sun-dried tomatoes and cashew cream together? Tasty food without the guilt is definitely a win-win situation.
Travelling Palate
What isn't there to love about this place?? Is delicious, healthy, organic and had plenty of vegan and gluten free options!!!!!! Everyone is catered for! Unfortunately I didn't get to try the raw desserts but definitely will next time!
VegoLover
This is one of my favorite places to eat, must have visited over a dozen times!!<br/>The yin and yang charger is a newish popular dish which is great except for the potatoes.<br/>The "must try" and "always get sold out" dish is the green curry. It's the best curry I've had in Mel and I'm not even a curry fan. The biodynamic brown rice now with quinoa is also the best tasting rice.<br/>The improved batter of the fried oyster mushroom makes it more crispy and flavoursome but I miss the old sauce. <br/>We took away the dessert and found them all very healthy, light and not sweet at all. <br/>The white chocolate cheesecake was yum whereas the caramel slice and tiramisu didn't have much flavour.<br/>Can't fault any of the fresh juices, so refreshing and healthy.<br/>Tried the honey date tea and really like it. Such a great winter warmer drink. <br/><br/>

Chicken looks like togu. Nice restaurant. Nice people. Nice decoration. Great location. Great chai. For groups or alone. Very calm. Healthy.

Excellent service, variety on the menu, tasty food and a cute setting. Green curry is delicious. Will definitely recommend. Look forward to my next visit ☺️

Came here 3 weeks ago and omg it was amazing. Who would of thought that raw, vegan, healthy food could taste so damn good! Can't wait to come back!!!

Guilt is an inherent part of being human. Guilt eats away us at all. It stays with us for years, decades, entire lifetimes, even. We magnify the tiniest wrong we've done to Burj Khalifa proportions. We flagellate ourselves incessantly and unceasingly. This is the human condition.<br/><br/>Eating at Yong Green eradicates all guilt.<br/><br/>9/10, would definitely overcome guilt here again

Went with a friend and ordered the ramen, teriyaki wheat chicken bowl and soy tuna. Unfortunately, all three were very much below average. Firstly... the noodles. I enjoyed the fried lotus root, which is an ingredient that should be used more often. This is where the compliments stop. The "ramen" fell apart if my teeth were so much as in its general vicinity - not sure how they managed to accomplish this as you can make great noodles even with just flour and water. The "shoyu" broth was weak and bland. The tofu was meh. As for the soy tuna, it was very oily and quite salty - certainly didn't need the soy sauce mix that came with it. The teriyaki wheat chicken was OK but the sauce was, again, flavorless. The meal was just a weird combo of too-bland and too-salty, and nothing worked. If you come here, please avoid the items we chose; hopefully the rest of the menu is better. As for me, I won't be returning to this place, sorry to say.<br/> <br/><br/>Edit: OK I lied, we gave this place another chance because people kept saying it was awesome. We ordered something different this time and really enjoyed it (can't remember the name, but it was a tray of bits and pieces). It's a bit hit and miss, looks like.
Linda Nguyen
A cute and cozy casual lunch/dinner spot. Great presentation and flavours to food, majority of the menu is vegan which is awesome!! Service is quick and prompt, small dietary adjustments are offered and can be made. Id definitely come here again, it's also a good spot to introduce vegan food to non-vegans. The only recommendation I'd give to customers is to get in early for dinner! they dont take reservations, so Friday night and weekends get really packed and you can wait up to an hour for a table!
Munchlax
Absolutely brilliant!<br/><br/>If you are a vegetarian looking for delicious food with fast and friendly service, then Yong Green Food is a must! Ordered the Oyster mushrooms, Macro Dragon Bowl, and the Tofu Katsu. The meals arrived in under ten minutes. Only issue is the price. The meals are around $20 which in Fitzroy for vegetarian is slightly overpriced. However keeping the taste and service in mind, Yong Green Food is an absolute winner!!!
Diana Nguyen
One of the best vegetarian dishes I finished without complaining that it needed meat. Initially was skeptical because the last vegetarian/vegan place I went to was so disappointing and overrated (located in St.Kilda) but this place impressed me. The food was simple and delicious. Would definitely come back here again. <br/>
Veggigirrl
Yong Green Food is such a great place. I love the atmosphere and very clean and peaceful place. I think the food is quite nice, a bit plain but when you eat the food there, you notice it is very healthy. It is way overpriced though, the servings are quite small and not worth it. I do understand, however that their brown rice along with some other ingredients are organic so I understand why it is expensive. I have been here twice and both times had lovely service, waitresses were very nice and patient. I wouldn't be in a rush to come back as I want to try other vegan places. But it is definitely a great place to try.
Sweet And Sour Fork
The steaming bowl of mushroom-shoyu broth was filled with noodles, tofu puffs, and an assortment of veggies. I thought the tempura lotus roots were a fantastic idea – it was a more than satisfactory replacement for prawns. My only real issue with this was with the noodles; being egg-free and all, it lacked the elasticity all good ramen should have.
Bronimal
There's only one vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Melbourne that rivals The Vegie Bar when it comes to extorting the herbivorous bandwagon jumper-oners of the inner north, and that's Yong Green Food. <br/><br/>Twenty bucks for a relatively small bowl of brown rice and ordinary vegetables and tofu/tempeh is fracking absurd. If I hear one more person complain about the salads at Laneway Greens being overpriced (which they aren't; $15 for creative combinations that are twice the size of the servings at Yong) I'll point them in this direction. <br/><br/>Not only is the menu milquetoast as hell, but it's all obscenely exorbitant in price. Come on, guys. This is Fitzroy. You can afford to be more creative and less extortionate. But then again, why would you, when your restaurant is relentlessly bursting at the seams with ill-mannered, pretentious, entitled part-time vegans who don't mind being ripped off? <br/><br/>The only reason I'm giving this place a rating of more than 1 is because HOLY HELL THE RAW TIRAMISU AND RAW WHITE CHOCOLATE AND RASPBERRY CHEESECAKE PLEASE EXCUSE ME WHILE I POUR A BUCKET OF COLD WATER OVER MY HEAD. Hands down the best raw desserts I've purchased in Melbourne. Still overpriced, however. Shame they don't do a matcha cheesecake anymore (they were using matcha years before it became the ingredient du jour at every cafe in post-apocalyptic suburbia where local residents probably think that Japanese cuisine consists of little more than sushi rolls from the local foodcourt. Am I a huge snob? Probably.) Anyway, if your desire for raw vegan desserts outweighs your fiscal sensibility, this is the place for you.

AMAZING! Best vegetarian restaurant I have been to. The fake meats are to die! & they have so many options. I love being able to order anything on the menu. The service was good, good vibe. My favourite vegetarian place in Melbourne
Eatwithhendri
Yong Green serves vegetarian/vegan food with some dishes can be made GF on request. I think the menu is quite comprehensive serving many types of cuisines. Its Korean bbq, mock tuna nori roll, teriyaki 'chicken', and Japanese curry are highly recommended.
Linda
FANTASTIC FOOD! I recently had my birthday here and the variety for a vegan was absolutely a charm. The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely come here again. My meat eating friends loved it.

I was expecting more from all the hype.. Yes menu is okay if you like mock meat.. It could have fresher and healthier food.. For me food was okay but not amazing
T.v.L
For me is always the question "Why looking vegan restaurant always messy, dirty and uncomfortable " which is really annoying for me. <br/> <br/>I had the watermelon smoothie, which was delicious. The tortillas are very good and my main dish the teriyaki "chicken" was ok.
Planetpig123456@yahoo.com.au
Disappointing. My credit card was "accidentally" debited twice.I only found out later when I checked my statement. It took several phone calls and emails to get a refund. Buyer beware! Food average, wine undefinable.
Siyou
Good choice for vegetarian and vegan! Food here is really delicious!~ the king fish and quinoa are impressive~ strong recommend the dessert here too! We ordered the Black Sesame ice cream and cheese cake, both are yummy! Will come here again~

When neighbouring restaurants with inflated reputations fill up, I'm first in the door at Yong Green. Delicious food, friendly staff, efficient service, cosy atmosphere. I've never managed *not* to order their almond milk cacao smoothie... heaven in a glass. Dragon bowl, tofu katsu and raw pad thai are all favourites.
Sabrina Avenue
My vegan friend and I travelled across Melbourne because Yong Green Food looked like one of the best places to for dinner in the city and it didn't disappoint! My introduction to vegan/raw food was a surprisingly wonderful experience and though not being vegan, the food and atmosphere was excellent! My only criticism would be the seating, not all that spacious and we were situated next to the fridge (so it seemed) but that wasn't too big an issue. Highly recommend! <br/>Photo of the pho the green salad, watermelon crusher (this tasted so real it's not funny) and lime crusher attached
Georgina
I ordered the tofu katsu. The patty was really flavoursome and filling, the coleslaw was fresh and it's dressing was creamy and delicious. The interior has a quirky yet homely feel, the staff are reasonably friendly, the portions are good and the food presentation is simplistic yet lovely. On a negative note, the menu is a tad bit expensive for just vegetables. My mum ordered the dragon bowl, I tasted some of it and it was so bland and didn't taste very fresh. She ended up having really bad stomach pain from it. It's a shame that the quality varies so much depending on what you order.
BrunchQueen
Five stars for delicious dishes filled with so much flavour. Nothing can compare to that amazing tiramisu cake I had for dessert, it was absolutely amazing and a MUST if you ever visit.

Yong green are delicious, definitely one of my favourites :) the kimchi gyoza are a must try! Their kombucha is beautiful! Service is fairly quick. They have some awesome raw options, the rawsagna is pretty tasty.
Vegan Foodie Boss
A wonderful surprise. Utterly delicious. And we went back the very next day. Yuuuuum.<br/>The photos I took are of the raw burger which was really yum and I'll order that again in the future. We also had the green curry, a little watery but the flavour was perfect. The mushroom calamari was just ok, but the White chocolate cheesecake was Devine. <br/>The next day we ordered the raw pad Thai. Good flavour but I wouldn't order again
Out And About
Fantastic and buzzing little spot. In their menu they have a little section where they speak about their ethos: looking for organic, local food if possible and offsetting all their carbon footprint.<br/>We had a delicious green curry and the Tofu dragon bowl. Fantastic!

Yong Green Food delivers all that it promises to both Vegans and non-Vegans. I know I will certainly be back for their Rawsagna – a take on what a lasagne would be in a vegan world. It was absolutely delicious. The decadent cashew sauce paired with the delicately sliced zucchini and marinated eggplants made for a delectable combination of flavours. It was the perfect summer dish.
Fussy Eater
Fitzroy seems to have an endless capacity for vegan and vegetarian restaurants. Yong Green Food is either new, or perfectly capable of keeping up with trends. It specialises in raw, vegan, gluten free and biodynamic foods but still has plenty of cooked dishes and many of the old school vegetarian favourites (buckwheat pancakes, lentil and chickpea burgers, nori rolls, pizzas, curries and stews).<br/><br/>I went there as I practically drooled over the menu one morning while out shopping. Plenty of fermented foods and drinks, plant based meals and even quite a few mock meat options. I feel like I haven't had mock meat in years!<br/><br/>My dish didn't disappoint - mock sword fish with lemon tahini sauce, biodynamic brown rice, steamed veggies, lotus root chips, house made pickles and miso soup. My meat loving partner had a dragon bowl with tempeh, brown rice, seasonal vegetables, kimchi, seaweed and lemon cream. Everything was tasty and would suit vegans. Plus, we both walked away full and feeling healthy. Even our drinks fit the bill - I had a cultured drink with fig, ginger, cinnamon and lemon; my partner had an alkaline watermelon and lemon crush.<br/><br/>I recommend you book as you might get turned away or have a long wait. We didn't book but we went straight after work and within 15 minutes of arriving there was not one single table spare.<br/><br/>If you go to this place you will also need to get past the flaky wait staff who seem to be off in dream land and the slightly grubby feel to the interior (it may just be the poor lighting).

What I got: BBQ Burger<br/>Did not enjoy this place at all! Normally Asian food is an easy choice for me and I enjoy vegan meals but this food was no better than average to me and my friends. Meat was too chewy with little flavour, vegetables tasted old, rice was plain, bread was dry... I expected better. None of the 6 of us could finish our meal sorry. Service was ok.
Kim
Good service, my mum really liked her japanese curry and I liked my katsu tofu. we both loooooved the chocolate cheesecake. will return to try more things !

I go here at least once a fortnight because of how much I love the food. It's very affordable and very delicious. I have taken my family (full of meat eaters) here several times and after sigh hesitation at the start they now can't get enough of it! <br/><br/>The portion sizes are generous and it's such and staff were super helpful and friendly. I tell everybody to eat here!

I have never really looked at something labelled raw food and thought to myself "Mmm how do I get me some of that", not until I stumbled upon Yong Green anyway. An initiative of a couple Korean siblings, Yong Green highlights a going back to basics approach with their menu - vegetarian and vegan biodynamic meals. Their signature dishes include the rawsagne, the raw vegan blueberry cheesecake and the green tea ganache. The meals feel wholesome, the price range is $$ and the ambience is low-key. Paper lanterns galore!

One of the best meatless meals I've ever had! I tried the Rawsagna, which was so, so delicious. The cashew cream held the components together so well and was my favourite part of the dish. My friend ordered the soy king fish. It didn't really taste like fish, but it still tasted good. We wanted desserts, but unfortunately their kitchen had already closed by the times we were finished with our mains. Keen to return to sample their desserts next time.

The food are pretty good! Like the smoothie! My friend is suffering tho because no meat.not waiting for long, they are quite fast actually. Table is a little small for two people

I couldn't believe vegan food could be so tasty! I came here with a few friends and we shared all the dishes. <br/>The rawsagna was delicious, nice texture and really well presented. <br/>The pad Thai would have to be everyone's favourite dish, sauce was delicious and the portion was very generous. <br/>Quinoa patties are also a must try!<br/>The kimchi gyoza was not so good and was the last thing left on the table. <br/>The deserts were to die for, my favourite was the tiramisu, the caramel slice and cheesecake were also good.
LittleM
Had dinner with a friend. Ordered the Japanese curry and the soy king fish as mains; both were tasty for vegetarian meals but I preferred the king fish dish. As desserts, we had the caramel slice and raspberry white choc cheesecake. It was yummy without it being overly sweet, good treat without feeling like a glutton. 😜 The service was quick and staff were really friendly! 👍 Great place if you're keen to try some vegetarian dishes.
Snoozie
Food pretty yum but didn't think my tiny slice of rawsagna was worth it. It was the size of a slice of cake. Bf had chicken wrap- good flavours and more substantial. Nothing to rave about but nothing to major my dismiss either; just average
Jemma
Love Yong Green Food. Fresh, creative and healthy vegetarian/vegan food. Always insanely quick to arrive. Service is friendly and attentive. Had the kimchi dragon  bowl and it was ridiculously amazing!
Melbourne Vegetarian
Good food. Good service unfortunately the portion was a bit small as after finished up starter and main, me and my bf still feel hungry.<br/>End up we went to our regular place "vegie bar" for our favorite rasberry cheesecake for dessert.<br/>we will come back for more. Hopefully we order something else that able to filling our belly.<br/>

It is a nice place and has a creative menu. Unfortunately there is no green tea cheesecake anymore. I ordered stir fried kimchi dragon bowl and it tastes normal. Anyway all food is in healthy style.

Super fast service, extensive menu and oh my god dat mushroom calamari doe. My favourite place when I want to be healthy but want amazing flavours at the same time! 🙌🏼
EJA
Love this place, Pad Thai, veg lasagne, dumplings etc.. Drinks like crushed ice watermelon juice, Acai or Tumeric shots, coconut water, organic cold chai. It's all delish soul food! Only thing is this place is pretty pricey. Don't expect the place to be fancy, it's a relaxed simple decor with a chilled out vibe.

Finally managed to get ourselves to Yong! Have been wanting to try it for ages! Friendly service, very healthy & tasty food! The meals were so filling (great value for money) and were accomodating to dietary requirements. We'll be back for sure!

I went to this place well over a year ago and have been meaning to do a review for them for quite a while now. <br/>This place is absolutely awesome! The amount of vegan friendly options along with an extensive amount of meals being organic, it's definitely one of my favourite vegetarian cafes! <br/>When I ordered the 'Raw Falafel Wrap', it wasn't exactly what I expected but then again, I ordered it before I really knew what raw and healthy food was! It was interesting opening up my container to see three raw falafels on a sheet of lettuce but it was delicious, especially the mango salsa that came with it!<br/>As this place is vegetarian/vegan and a lot of it organic, the prices for the food is extremely reasonable!<br/>I highly recommend this place to omnivores AND herbivores if you're after a good feed! Cannot wait to go back!
Pat Casten
One of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. Top quality vegan/vegetarian meals and desserts. so much flavour and love put into my food. The food is fresh, filling and colourful. Skeptical Non vegos love this place too. Can't fault yong green
Fainzee
Incredibly extensive menu! Heaps of yummy vegan options. I had some high expectations and thought it was good. Not amazing, just good. Unfortunately I got served a spelt veggie bun that was still cold in the middle... That was the largest let down here, and also since the food came out so fast it was a bit unforgivable. Had they spent another 5 minutes making sure everything was as it was meant to be I would have given a higher rating. <br/>The kombucha was great, my mum had the maca chai and she liked it. We also got the summer rolls and the quinoa fritters to share. <br/>Quinoa fritters were soooooo so yum! Best of everything we had. A lot of summer rolls! I think it was a little much for us but they are small. The smoked tofu is awesome and there is lots of flavor. <br/>I look forward to coming back and giving this place a second chance.
Tamblyn Thomason
Delicious food and healthy too! Service was fantastic. Food was out quickly after ordering and the staff were all so friendly and helpful! Great atmosphere
Stephanie Alise
Great food, fast service and tasty food. Only let down was a rude staff member who rolled their eyes at our table when we took time in deciding what to order.
Harry Oldfield
Never dissapointed with this place. Consistently delicious food and great service. Although I think the prices could be cheaper it doesn't stop me from coming back. BYO wine makes it even better.
YumYum
LOVE this place. Delicious and nutritious food with a huge menu. The rawsagna is a must and also the desserts. I've been here with non vegos who were sceptical to start with but they loved it and kept coming back! Yum! <br/>The only down is the ambience.

As a vegetarian your options can sometimes be limited when eating out.  And when it comes to vegetarian restaurants, it can be a mixed bag.  But Yong's is a must visit for any vego in Melbourne.<br/><br/>Food (10): I cannot fault it.  Very creative dishes that are bursting with flavour.  Even my meat eating friends enjoy coming here.  It proves that Vegetarian food can be more than risottos and deep fried garbage.  <br/><br/>Ambiance (9): Very clean with comfortable seating. Nice lighting too - a good atmosphere for a night time dining experience. <br/><br/>Service (10): Perfect. Extremely friendly staff. <br/><br/>Value: (9) For the location and quality of food, the prices are very reasonable.<br/><br/>Overall (9.5): Every Vegetarian in Melbourne has to dine here at least once.  A high standard in vegetarian dining.  I only wish it was open 7 days.

The Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake has taken raw desserts to a whole new level for me! Absolutely incredible! Great proportions of base to cheesecake, amazing creamy texture and complimented perfectly by the raspberries on top. What makes it even better is that they do takeaway.. perfect for those days when you don't have time to stay for a full meal and would rather pick up a treat to have on the go! Great atmosphere and really friendly service, will definitely be back!
Chelsey Ramos
Wow!!!!!!!!! We ordered the Thai green curry! This was out of this world amazing. All the food coming out looked so good it was hard to choose. I can't wait to come back and try something new. We were seated straight away and the service was very quick!
Anne Pham
Cheesecakes were great! They were not too sweet and were quite light. Service was a let down and the matcha latte was very weak and tasted like hot milk.
Jay
Love this place. Never fail to give me something delicious and healthy. The macro dragon bowl and raw lasagne are my favourite healthy dinners and the raw deserts are too die for!
Joel Gill
Let me first start my review by saying I'm not a vegetarian/vegan, so my review may be skewed. Firstly, this restaurant has some good dishes. The nachos are great! However, I've been here two times now, and the meals can be very bland. Salt and pepper should be an option for diners. Also, customer service isn't exactly great (where Yong Green loses most points from me), as you feel rushed when ordering. About ten minutes after we paid the bill, we were pretty much asked if we were leaving. There were plenty of tables available, and I think that was the height of rudeness. The prices aren't that cheap either. I may give this place a miss next time.
Lola Bee
Great vegan place - I took 8 carnivores here and they couldn't believe it wasn't meat. It's my favourite vegan place :) I love its sustainable practice as well
Believeinyourself
Yong Green offers a wide variety of vegan/gluten free choices on their menu. They have raw, asian, pizza, salads, sandwhiches, smoothies desserts, all very flavoursome and fair priced. Staff were friendly and helpful. We ate there few times and loved it every time. The big tempeh burger with coleslaw was huge and tasty, the pho dishes is a must try, and their tofu dishes are a standout too. Definitely a place to go try out!
Food Baby
The tofu katsu was a good solid meal, I enjoyed it, although not as memorable as I was hoping. It needed a more unique flavour to the Japanese mayo sauce, or something more creative than a standard coleslaw bed, or on point texture to make it shine into the 4/5 category. It's not enough to just be healthy or organic, it has to be healthy and have a special flavour or texture that you don't find anywhere else. I'd like to go back and try the Macro Dragon Bowl.
RazTaleb
A wonderous assemblage of 6 gathered for some guiltless constructions of kimchi pancake, lentil hot pots, organic burgers dragon bowl and quinoa fritters. Spectacular presentations, the coconut chilli sauce invigorated the finely-drawn tastable aroma of the fritter. My kimchi pancake; incredibly light nevertheless inhibiting a potent satiation of fullboreness and furthermore, splashing over some hot sauce heightened a mighty flavourful kick! The organic tofu stemming from the dragon bowl was a little perplexing upon tastable initiation however after a few mouthfuls the appreciation materialises and you actually forget about the articulately dense operation of what this establishment conveys amidst their produce. Scenic florality as is depicted from the concept of "Yong Green" - even the desserts are astonishingly spectacular! The tiramisu is a must try and I'm not even a terimisu enthusiast. A non-traditionally creamy variation as opposed to its spongy velvety original formula. Even the chocolate cheesecake was mouthwatering but for $10-$12 per serving you would expect the portions to equalise the size of your palm at the very least. Hitting back up the greenery again soon! :)

Awesome lunch with a friend. Raw food lasagne, basically a raw veggie stack... Rawsagne! Was delicious! Would for sure come back here. Next time I'd get the desert.

Very tasty healthy food, quick service, at a reasonable price. Couldn't ask for much more! Had the Korean BBQ and would definitely return to try some of the other hunger-inducing dishes on the menu.

I had dinner at Yong Green Food with some friends in November and forgot to write it up until now. I had lunch with one of those friends recently and she reminded me that I hadn’t written a blog post about it. So here it is. To be honest I have mixed feelings about my first visit to Yong. The place is jumping and busy all the time. Everybody seems to love it and rave about it. I had looked forward to it and had high expectations which is always a hurdle in itself.
Rhys
Great food and service. Sometimes a wait to be seated but they're good at estimating a time and even call to let you know so you can run off to a bar while you wait.
Gtime
First vegan style restaurant and tasty enough, felt guilt free with fresh herbs and nutty spicy flavours. Will go again after a fried hangover.
Lisamattssoon
Good vegan options but they lack flavor and passion... Great atmosphere, nice staff , good looking menu and good location! <br/>Unfortunately the Lentil wrap wasnt very good and the Mexican stew with rice was not worth the money (lacked presentation and complicity).
Jessica Marsigit
So shocking that vegetarian food could be this YUMMY! Tried the katsu covered with quinoa which is just simply an amazing and yummy dish. The desserts are must tried dish and it tasted similar to the usual cheesecake. Great job on promoting vegetarian and healthy dish!

Best organic food. Ever.. Yong's never disappoints! Everything on the menu is guilt free and delicious, a combination you don't come across very often. I've been coming back for years and have absolutely loved every meal I've eaten there. Staff are friendly and attentive as well!

Great food. First time in a restaurant of this sort, but I can actually say I loved it. Very tasty and great service.

Should be more of these type restaurants. Because of location in Brunswick St easier to park. All healthy food. Great for people off sugar in their diet. Desserts are fab. Fresh food which came out pretty quickly to our table of six albeit a bit staggered. We all felt full. Mains around $20, not a huge serve but filling enough. None of us hungry. Desserts $8-$9. All food nicely presented. Staff nice and hospitable. Seats uncomfortable. Book a table otherwise you will wait if you just turn up. Recommend. I'll be back to try more of the menu.

It’s not often that you find a place to eat where the food really nourishes you. Where you know that care has been taken not just to feed you and take your money, but to really think about what goes into the dishes, and how they affect your health. Yong Green food uses organic produce from local suppliers wherever possible, donates to charity, offsets carbon emissions and uses only filtered water.
Haruchikanz
Not traditional Korean food. They make organic food but not real Korean food,I love Korean food !! very disappointed
Nini
Dessert yummy! Not much else... Overated. Other than the dessert everything was pretty average. Had the 'chicken'stir-fried and tofu katsu. Both were ok but nothing special which is what I was expecting due to the high ratings. Not the biggest fan of brown rice which most of the mains seem to contain. The gyozu for entree was a bit of a let down as well. Guess the place is Asian food for westerners not for Asians. The special tonic was the worst, seemed very artificial as it was mixed in with a soda or something.. not a nice taste to have with the food on offer.<br/>Staff however were very friendly and attentive and atmosphere was great. <br/>Dessert was wholesome and very yummy, highly recommend it :)

Perfect!. Lovely waitress who helped us choose what to order. The Lentil Hot Pot and Seaweed salad was perfect. The food is so flavoursome and healthy. The Dragon Ascent juice is absolutely AMAZING. And very quick.

Love it!. I just love their food, there is a wide variety, raw and cooked food. The deserts are also excellent.

Best Restaurant in Melbourne. Probably the finest, freshest food you can find in Melbourne. Simply brilliant.

A little over priced but great food. Awesome to be eating something delicious and feel like ypu aee putting nutritious yunmy goodness in your belly. Great food, great gaux meat just a bit over priced

It is a restaurant that “serves predominantly organic vegetarian food prepared according to ying and yang principles and using eco-friendly methods as much as possible”. They are committed to a low carbon future and also support farming practices. In fact, the toilet paper in the bathrooms is by Who Gives A Crap, a company that donates 50% of their profits to building toilets and developing sanitation in the developing world. Yup, this is a business with ethics, morals and environmental awareness.

it’s the food that’s been reeling me in to the area and Yong Green Food is one such destination that’s captivated me.  Sustainability is key at Yong Green Food and has remained at the core of its business since opening its doors... When a long menu is over-pouring with vegan options ordering a full three course meal plus drinks is a must. For starters, a steaming bamboo basket of homemade tofu veggie kimchi gyoza is a perfect choice. They’re plump and delightfully wobbly, exuding a zing when dipped in a side of chilli soy sauce.
Kylfth.umali
The Homemade Kimchi Gyoza was steamed perfectly- the skins weren’t too soggy or too chewy and the kimchi filling was not too hot, it had just the right amount of spiciness. The texture reminded me of eating tuna flakes- meaty and light; loved the fullness of it despite it being vegetable

This was Mock Salmon Roe aka raw sushi, filled with finely chopped carrots, cashew cream, sunflower seeds, capsicum, cucumber and avocado alongside a wasabi tamari sauce. Despite its small size the sushi was very tasty and not as a dry as I was expecting, although a lot smaller than I was expecting for $13. Fortunately I’d ordered other dishes,

Not a lot of people can enjoy just having vegetables for lunch. Most people I know think that they won't feel full after just having a salad without meat for a meal. After switching to eating organic fruits and vegetables, I have to admit that sometimes I do miss eating red meat so I just do it every other week just to satisfy my cravings. Coming to Yong Green Food was actually Sis' suggestion. She's quite curious about what type of food can be served raw and vegetarian - and most importantly, how she would feel afterwards. So after doing some research, we came here today for lunch. The interior feels very natural and it had a "zen" sort of smell. Pleasant but it didn't feel like a restaurant. The first item that we ordered was the Quinoa Fritters ($12.50). These are fried organic quinoa patties with veggies and spices with coconut chilli sauce. We both loved this. The quinoa was spiced with curry and corn bits. I also loved the coconut chilli sauce. It was filling and satisfying. The

Overall we had a delicious meal, and there is still so much to go back and try next time! I’ll definitely be ordering the fried nori roll, that’s for sure!
Olive Sundays
Yong green food is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant created by people wanting to make a difference. It has a really nice vibe about it. The food is organic, eco-friendly and no living beings are hurt in the making of these incredibly delicious meals. My brother suggested the place (him being vegetarian and all) and I had some doubts at first (me being a meat eater and all) but I eat my words, I was pleasantly surprised...

For those who have never heard of this place, Yong Green Food is a lovely little restaurant on Brunswick St, Fitzroy and is basically the epitome of nearly every green eating lover’s dream. It’s run by two Korean sisters and offers a range of guilt-free dishes that accommodates to the needs of everyone PLUS mother earth! There’s an abundance of Asian-inspired dishes despite being owned by Koreans with their menu based on cooked, raw, organic, vegan and gluten-free options.
Chef John Smith
Vegetarian? Vegan? Gluten-free? Raw food? Organic? Clean eating? Paleo? Jenny Craig? Whatever your diet may be today, you will surely be able to eat something on the menu at Yong Green Food on Brunswick St, Melbourne. The ‘raw’ menu contains items such as Hawaiian pizza made from macadamia bread with raw cashew cream and pineapple topping or rawsange; mixed raw vegetables with walnut bolognaise. If raw isn’t your thing I can vouch for the mock meat chicken burger on Turkish bread or the mock tuna wrap with coleslaw, both under $12. My favourite dish so far at Yong’s is the Oyster Mushroom Calamari Salad, an innovative dish of fried king oyster mushrooms served with jalapeño marinara and vegan aioli. I’ve heard good things about the Dragon Bowl, the kimchi and the stir died veggies too. If you have IBS or suffer from sensitivity to processed and preservative filled food and drink, I highly recommend Yong’s Green Food to you. Make sure you make a reservation.

Another Vegetarian restaurant option that serves mostly vegan, raw, organic, gluten free and you know, all that stuff. I met up with my blogger friend, Wanderingmint  and her friend Steve for dinner.  Yong Green Food had far been in my list for quite sometime ever since my absolute amazing experience at Vegie Bar (a vegetarian restaurant). I expected Vegie Bar's standards, but Yong Green Food wasn't on par. Not that its bad, it was just decent. Organic Chilli Bean Nachos, 15AUD   Overall dish was very dry to the throat, and barely enough sauces for all the chips. The corn chips were served with chilli beans, guacamole, sour cream and organic cheese. Some jalapenos on the sides where everyone would just sweep it under, and left them all behind. Homemade Kimchi Gyoza, 13AUD Flimsy looking Homemade Kimchi Gyoza that barely forms a shape. I say the chili soy sauce served with it was its saving grace. Kelp Pad Thai, 19AUD The Kelp Noodles were delightful. It wasn't  everyone's ' favourite, but I loved it anyhow. Amongst all that mixed organic veggies, thin kelp noodles were coated with chilli cashew sauce with strongly spiced tamari almonds that were extremely addictive. Buckwheat Crepe, 13.50AUD I have high expectations for the Buckwheat Crepe because of how it looks, and the craze over it on on Instagram. This crepe was absolutely organic, vegan and gluten free with braised  shiitake  mushrooms inside as the standout ingredient folded within. The white sauce underneath was wasabi soy mayo. I thought with kewpie it would taste better. Overall, if not for the presentation 13.50AUD was a bit much to hand over. Fried Nori Roll, 13AUD I liked the Fried Nori Roll, but again, it was slightly overpriced. They wrapped mung bean noodles with tofu, sesame leaves and some veggies around three nori seaweeds. The sauce was lovely as well, it was sweet, sour and therefore called the yuzu citrus dipping sauce. Dragon Bowl, 19AUD Dragon Bowl was incredibly amazing and its one of the re
Mon's Adventure
The service was extremely quick, but I’m not sure if that was because they were closing soon. Our drinks came out within a minute or two and were both very green. As a person who doesn’t drink a lot, I love creativity when it comes to mocktails, smoothies or juices and Yong Green Food ticked this box.
The Food Society
Yong’s is your one stop shop for all things vegetarian: raw, vegan, gluten free – you name it, they’ve got it. The crowd rolls in and out fast, so stake your claim early or come during the quieter hours to ensure you grab a spot at one of the tables before things get a little too hectic. Thai green curry ($18) Thai green curry ($18) The Thai green curry was quite enjoyable – my organic tempeh came immersed in a light, not too creamy house-made Thai green curry paste characterised by quite an amped up level of spiciness. I must admit that I am not one to usually order tempeh (it is one of those tastes that takes a little getting used to), but I quite liked the pairing. All of this married well with a bowl of biodynamic brown rice with just enough outer crunchiness to
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
As I was leaving Yong Green Food, I thought to myself that maybe I could become a vegetarian. But then a tantalising aroma of barbecued meat came floating down the street and I thought maybe not. But seriously, the food here is pretty amazing. The delicious and creative menu has many dietary options including raw, vegan, gluten-free as well as a no garlic and onion option (which was perfect for one of my friends who always has to check whether or not a dish contains garlic or onion). The menu here was quite extensive and there were many things that I wanted to try, particularly in the raw section of the menu. For those who are omnivores, I recommend not ordering anything that contains meat substitute as it will taste nothing like the real thing. Service was quick and friendly, and the ambience was relaxed and casual. I love how sustainability is an important aspect to those here at Yong Green Food. Not only do they serve predominantly organic vegetarian food using eco-friendly methods, they also use GreenPower renewable energy and donate 10% of their profits to help support farmer managed natural regeneration in East Africa.

Service was friendly, no complaints there...the decor is hippy in an endearing Korean way. Would I return? Heck yeah.

The majority of Melbourne vegans need no introduction to the wholesome and delicious food on offer at Yong Green Food and the midweek queues out the door are testament to the fact that the word has truly gotten around! Yong Green Food offers an extensive all vegetarian (mostly vegan) menu with an abundance of gluten free options - along with raw, organic and biodynamic dishes.
Minh Thuy Le
I am a lover for all things vegetarian and vegan in the foodie world. In fact sometimes I wonder why I haven’t turned vegetarian yet, but…I have my reasons. Yong Green Food as the name suggests is a little vegetarian and vegan establishment in Fitzroy on Brunswick St that serves patrons food that is not only delicious but is good for body and your conscious as well. It is the perfect place for vegetarians, plant based eaters and vegans alike and becoming fast a favourite among the many health conscious lovers of food that is wholesome and nourishing for the mind, body and soul.
Expensive Delicious Habit.
So when DK suggests that we go somewhere to eat raw vegan lasagne, I'm all ears. Especially if there is the chance for raw chocolate cheesecake afterwards!
LK
Definitely worth a try even for the carnivores out there- a little more green than Vegie Bar but I believe even a full on meat eater could find some merit in the light and fresh flavours Yong offers.

Yong’s is a vegetarian restaurant, there are many ‘gf’s on the menu and many more ‘v’s (vegan). All of the dishes pictured were vegan and gluten free...

Yong Green Food is just over a year old and still going strong. We stopped in a couple of Saturdays ago before a friend's birthday drinks to grab something to eat. The last time I was there I was so overwhelmed by the many interesting choices on the menu that I didn't know what to order. This time I was so hungry that I just picked the first thing that I saw - the Teriyaki "Chicken". My bf picked the Korean BBQ "Beef".
SylviaOng
The best raw vegetarian place in Melbourne, Yong Green Food was created by Korean ladies. Go Korea~! Since trying their delicious dishes, I am addicted...
Elena
Excited by our last vegetarian adventure on Brunswick Street, we were interested in broadening our meat-free experiences. Yong Green Food is not your average vegetarian restaurant as half of the menu consists of raw food. Instead of serving only salads and peanuts, Yong Green Food puts a great amount of creativity and skill into making every bite delicious.
SneakyLily
Overall I enjoyed the meal, and left feeling healthy rather than choc-a-block full of oil, but some of the food could have used more flavour, and I wish it was served hot!!!

The waitresses are polite, and the ladies preparing food at the front desk are helpful and attentive when approached. I was delighted to be presented with a vegetable rawsagna, picture perfect as captured by so many other diners. I was initially feeling a bit sceptical about trying the rawsagna because I hadn’t been a big fan of vegetables during my childhood and/or early teen years, and it was only this year that my taste has seemed to change and I’ve been able to tolerate vegetables

Dispel any fear of carrot sticks because there’s an impressive gastro-sleight of hand at work; soy masquerades as beef, chicken and fish, and vegan cashew cheese, the standout of the zucchini-noodled ‘rawsagne’, tastes like it’s harvested from hand-milked grain-fed organic cows.
Mochii
I absolutely loved the Rawsagne (layers of zucchini, mushroom, onions, marinara and cashew cheese). Although the portions were small, it was quite filling.

The service was wonderful, our waitress was full of smiles, tips and advice. And we were planning our next meal before we even walked out the door.

Every hipster and their fixie opts for a vegetarian diet these days, so I thought I’d share my favourite vegetarian restaurants in Melbourne.

As part of RNIS's Healthy living month. Yong Green Food is a healthy vegan, vegetarian place which is good for students minds and bodies. They don't do coffees but they do teas and smoothies and juices. It is a relaxing place in the heart of Fitzroy. It is run by two Korean sisters and a friendly Asian guy served me. They sometimes supply meals to Realfoods. They are known for their rawasgne ( a type of vegetarian lasagna). But I wasn't in the mood for this. They have some meat dishes, but because they are vegetarian they use fake meat (or mock meat as some would like to call it). The service was great. The kimchi spicy sauce It was here that I had their kimchi gyoza ($12.50) and their cold rice noodle salad ($15.50). It really wasn't rice noodle though. When I think of rice noodle I think of the big fat noodles. But I loved that wasabi kick to it. They did however drown out all the vegetables with their dressing. It would be nicer if they put it on the side. I also loved the kimchi gy

All in all, Yong Green Food delivers all that it promises to both Vegans and non-Vegans. I know I will certainly be back for their Rawsagna (especially when the weather is warmer).<br/>

Best Vegan food in town.. I absolutely LOVE this place! As a Vegan it's hard to find a menu where you just want to order everything. I come here regularly and can not fault a dish. Service is amazing and speedy, food comes out quickly- even with a packed restaurant and the actual food is always perfect. Gold star. I can't recommend this place enough.

Great alternative to Veggie Bar. A bit further up the hipster path of B'wick street is Yong Green Food and it is definitely worth the extra few steps! Offering an array of asian inspired raw and veggie options, it's a vegetarian's nightmare (so much to choose). Usually go for a curry dish and a dessert - it never disappoints. Quieter than veggie bar and slightly cheaper too. Green thumbs up for you Yong!
Fizzkakz
Raw food is a winner. I have only eaten off the raw menu which is very good. Both the pizza and in particular, the burger were really tasty and satisfying. Really lovely staff too.
Mjporter12
Great, healthy, food. The food and service was great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for vegetarians or vegans looking for a cute venue with a wide, interesting range of dishes.
Silvercelebrants
Lovely food even if you are not vegan. I was a little hesitant going to Yong's but as my husband's diet requires raw food, we tried it out. I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was that I found delicious food and drinks, in fact I chose something from the raw menu and it was awesome! Will definitely be going back, it was lunch so relatively quiet, but both meals and drinks were delightful.
Memphis_griz
Extremely polite staff only further complimented by fantastic and interesting food. I have been eating at Yong green food for years and it's always perfect!

If you're torn between a few places on bustling Brunswick St.. The answer is always Yong Green. They've never let me down so far and I'm quite happy to drive the 1 hr from my hometown to eat their Kimchi Gyoza!!
Mischel EL
Favourite !!. Absolutely amazing food here! I've been at least 5 times in the past year and every time food is quality, staff are lovely, atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect in the neighbourhood. I've been 3 times with hard core meat-eaters and they loved it! <br/><br/>absolute faves - green curry, chickpea korma, dragon bowl, kimchi gyoza. and the wheat beers are actually great!!<br/><br/>always a treat eating here and would unreservedly recommend this to everryyyoneee!!
Salomesathyasai
Great food - lots of vegan options. Great place.

A++++++. I don't know enough descriptive words to express my love for this place. Its perfect, perfect food, prefect service and perfect atmosphere. Yay for Yongs!!!!!

Spoiled for choice- I must return!. Yong Green Food is a delightful restaurant with a quirky and comfortable atmosphere. I went there for lunch; the service was great and were attentive to our needs. I ordered the rawsagne, tofu katsu and tiramisu. I ordered the rawsagne as it was the most popular dish I heard about on here, it was light and fresh, certainly felt healthy eating it, it was very nice! Honestly though, it didn't live up to the hype and was my least favourite of the three, I ate it after the tofu katsu and I guess the flavours seemed a bit dull in comparison. The tofu katsu was delicious, the coleslaw, with the katsu sauce and the pattie combined together somehow created a beautiful and flavoursome meal, I can only imagine how delicious Yong Green's other various curries and stir fries are. Will definitely try them in the future. Lastly the tiramisu was delicious, could have had more rum for my tastes but it was soft and creamy and oh how I wanted more! Yong Green is a bit pricey though for me so it'll have to be a bit of a special treat to go there again.

Rawsagna. Yum yum yum... Delicious. Definitely exceeded my expectations for raw lasagna<br/><br/><br/>-----27 Oct, 2014-----<br/><br/>Raw Pizza. I wanted to try something I never had before. It was not your usual pizza in any way.. but the taste was really good.
Food-is-life
Deliciously different.. Beautifully presented food that tasted as good as it looked! <br/>Staff were lovely and attentive.<br/>Menu was reasonably priced and extremely creative and diverse in the dishes available.<br/>A fabulous dining experience - a quality, cheap and nutritious feed!<br/>Can't wait to go back! :)
Laura
All the food was amazing, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Staff were very attentive.
Kate
Love it. One of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne - friendly service, delish food, reasonable prices - and the raw chocolate cheesecake is amazing!!
Liz J
My Favourite Vegan Restaurant, Hands Down!. My favourite vegan restaurant! :)<br/>The fact that it is all very healthy, fresh and vegan is what makes me frequent this amazing restaurant at least once a month.<br/>Friendly service, delicious food!
Zoe
Really great food. Loved the kimchi gyozas. Only thing was I ordered a curry with chicken instead of tempeh, it arrived with no meat, I asked if there was meant to be chicken, the waitress went and consulted the chef and came back and said "there is chicken in it, it's the stuff that looks like mushrooms"... Um no they were mushrooms haha slightly strange but laughed it off. Will be returning to try other stuff, great service!
Poppinso
Yummy. Really delicious. Only thing I wish for is that the portions were larger
DP
1st time at a vegan restaurant and it was an experience. A good one. But I'm not returning any time soon. They have a Very large creative menu. Impressed with the flavours and combinations put together.
Experiencejoysoflife
The Tofu pattie with brown rice and coleslaw was the most amazing dish that my brother had ( I kept picking at his plate) the rawlasagne was fanstic too. <br/><br/>The carmel slice was nice, it was a tad on the salty side. This place has lovely and attenntive staff, the wait is line is worth it. I will be back no doubt about it.<br/><br/>2016 - update! TOFU KATSU IS STILL JUST AS AMAZING AS 2014. THANK YOU.
Karen Burns
Absolutely amazing food! Must try a desert too! Everything about this place is fantastic!
Mandy
A must - best food!!. I love this restaurant - love the organic food, the fact that we can eat there with food intolerances ( as all menu items are clearly marked to cater for many dietary requirements). Food is delicious. I had the Lentil hot pot without sugar. Divine. Hummus a great touch. Also shared the "chocolate cheesecake" which was AMAZING! I rarely order desserts but this one sounded so natural and "healthy". The worst part about this restaurant is that we live too far away and can not frequent it as much as I would like. Would love if they opened another south of the yarra!
Leuchtgurke89
Love it!. This has got to be one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. The staff is always super friendly and the food is amazing. Do yourself a favour and try one of their white chocolate cakes - so good!
Katie K
Something for everyone. Extensive menu, friendly and fast service . Try the daikon salad , it is awesome !
Beini
Rawsagneeeee. Tasted pretty good for vegan, but not filling at all
Marianne Maguire
The food and service at Yong Green are very good. We were able to get a table for 4 on Friday evening with no booking, although the restaurant filled up while ate. Yong has a pleasant vibe, although perhaps it could use a little facelift to freshen up the walls, decor and bathroom. The raw tiramisu is just about the most delicious thing I have ever tasted. I can't wait to go back and have it again.
AH
INCREDIBLE!. Came here today for the first time after much anticipation and definitely was not let down! The buckwheat crepes were delicious, but the real stand out was the raw chocolate cheesecake! Both the service and the ambience were outstanding also and I can't wait to come back to try the rest of the menu!
Ash
Had an excellent experience at Yong Green food for lunch. I ordered the Macro Dragon Bowl whilst my friend ordered the Mexican Chilli beans; both came out quickly and were delicious! The Macro Dragon Bowl was particularly good; a lot of flavour, nutritious, wholesome, and a generous serving. Definitely coming back here soon!
Amy
Delicious!. Such a huge range of vegetarian food - everything I ate was DELICIOUS, everything I saw at the tables next to me gave me food envy. I'd have to say this is now my favourite vegetarian restaurant in Melbourne. The staff were perfect - not too pushy, but always available. The vibe on a Sunday lunchtime was perfect - intimate, light and airy, I could have stayed all day. Can't wait to go back!
Ogormagm
Tasty and... Vegan. Amazing oraganic tasty food quick service and not to expensive<br/><br/>Good on you guys

The chia chai is amazing quick food great vegan food quick and healthy i will definitly be returning thankyou yong

$18 for a bowl of brown rice and some pickled veggies with a tiny bowl of miso on the side. There's way too much hype about this place.
Stacey
Delicious and filling. I've just started incorporating more raw meals into my diet and I was told Yong was the place to go. From the front, it looks quiet but once you get inside, the place is packed. After my meal, I could see why. I ordered the immunity juice and the raw nutty burger which was delicious. I don't know what dressing they put on the salad, but i've never eaten salad so fast in my life. It was yum. Plus, unlike most raw meals I've eaten recently, this one kept me full for hours. Will definitely be back and will be making it a regular place to visit!
The Taco Cat
First time here. So far, not so good.. First of all I would like to say that the service staff were really friendly and like all vegetarian places I've been to, the energy of the place was very warm and positive.<br/><br/>I want to like this place. Seriously I do. But I think I set myself up for disappointment.<br/>I guess it's my fault in believing that a good tofu burger actually exists. There was probably 50 better options I could've made and I noticed all the lovely dishes everyone else had ordered from dragon bowls to raspberry cheesecakes. <br/><br/>Anyhow, tofu is an ingredient that's better eaten hot or cold. But in a burger, it's difficult territory. It doesn't retain heat very well so it ends up being this lukewarm entity amongst the salad greens, cucumber, tomato and coleslaw. The taste of the tofu was very bland and the texture wasn't pleasant. It's almost like how melted cheese begins to harden when exposed to the cold. It's not nice. In addition to this, I'm not sure why satay and sweet chilli sauce were both added because it is a very strange combination. Fortunately, I was spared the experience because I was eating with a knife and fork. You'd had to have a hippo's mouth to bite through the entire burger. The satay was at the bottom while the sweet chilli sauce was at the top.<br/><br/>But... again, my fault. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The burger after all is somewhat a mixture of American (burger), Italian (focaccia), Thai (Satay and sweet chilli), Chinese (tofu) and Dutch/German/Polish (coleslaw). I've heard of fusion cuisine, but this takes it to another level that can't be taken seriously.<br/><br/>I'm sitting on the fence for now. I promise I'll be back for round 2.
Jess Vego Foodie
Never disappoints! Tofu Katsu is amazing, but I think everything is great, particularly almond milk smoothies :)
FoodieMolly
Happy first timer. Went to this place with three other girls after hearing great things and seeing the extensive gluten free menu. <br/>Although I eat healthy, I don't eat superfoods or raw foods so this was a great place to try!<br/>We ordered 4 mains to share and the waiters were very happy to bring us plates to share.<br/>The kelp pad thai was raw and delicious! It came with a few tamari almonds that I could of eaten a whole plate of. <br/>The lentil korma curry was also great and added a bit of spice to our selection. <br/>The organic bean nachos were yum and were generous with the beans and corn mix!<br/>Lastly the quinoa battered veggie and tofu patty thing. This was my favourite! The inside was soft and full of flavour and the outside was crispy. The sauce on top was to die for.<br/>We definitely weren't disappointed with the mains!<br/>For dessert we shared the raspberry cheesecake, goji green tea choc ganache and the peacan cheese cake. To me the cheesecakes were bland but great texture and presentation. The ganache was yummy! <br/>Service was 10/10 for a super busy Sunday night. Always attentive and polite. <br/>This place is great for a fix of yummy, fresh, sustainable, healthy food.
Justin.otto
Good Food. Food is tasty, inexpensive and filling, and fast service. When you eat here you don't feel like you are missing out on anything (meat). Will definitely come back (but not for the coffee).<br/>Quinoa patties - yum<br/>Buckwheat crepes - fresh, light and yum<br/>Nachos - oh yeah<br/>Fried Nori Rolls - so-so<br/>Chocolate "cheesecake" - creamy, coconutty, not too rich<br/>Coffee - Bad! Ordered soy latte and it just tasted wrong (soy latte can be great). Watery and insipid.
Chrystalage
Fabulous Dessert. I enjoyed the main course a curry but I'm not really into vegetarian food so I probably wouldn't go back for mains. Dessert on the other hand was beautiful - chocolate cheesecake which was light, delicate and full of flavour. I savoured every mouthful without the heavy richness of a dairy based dessert.
Peppa.eats
Came here with speculations about veggo food but was surprised by the flavoursome taste and textures of the foods! wonderful service keep it up!

Recommend the raw pecan falafel any day!
Puss In Boots
I love this place so much. Thought a year ago the standards had dropped but that are back in full effect. <br/>Had the buckwheat crepe today with shiitake mushroom and a coleslaw, both vegan and GF and delicious. <br/>The other had a dragon bowl and we shared the choc cheesecake. <br/>The staff are lovely and put good vines in the food. The atmosphere is lunch is very pleasant over the hectic dinner. <br/>Absolutely love this place!!
Resh Pras
Was excited at first seeing the menu! I love raw healthy meals and to see they used freshly made sauces free from added sugar and dairy was a relief!<br/>the food was delicious and the staff were helpful and friendly!<br/>get on their raw amazing deserts!
Brillat_Savarin
Really tasty and nourishing! Great service too.
Tasha Z
Amazing!! I couldn't find a.... Amazing!!<br/>I couldn't find a single negative thing to say service was outstanding you can't book so they take your name and number and actually call when the table is ready.<br/>The food was incredible we had buckwheat crepes and raw falafel wrap (both were favourites of the night!) then tofu Katsu which I didn't believe was vegan due to the creamy tangy mayo but it was! And there chilli beans. White choc and rasp cheesecake then tiramisu<br/>Only point is tirimusu is delicious but doesn't have a prominently coffee flavour like traditional (but still amazing)<br/>Will go back without hesitation

Favourite restaurant in all of melbourne. Yong Greens is such a special place and I can't get enough. My friends and i go all the time and are always so satisfied by our meals. the staff are so friendly and the food, oh wow, its incredible. i love their concept and i know i could order anything off the menu and be happy with it. would recommend to everyone!
Dotty B.
Equal or better than Vegie Bar. I loved the Japanese Curry. Will be returning!
Bringgggg_itttttt
Delicious!. One of my favorite restaurants in Melbourne. Everything I've had at Yong's has been amazing. The staff are extra friendly as well :)
Discordian Pope
Have I told you lately that I love you?. Yong's Green Food is not only next level delicious, it's staff are so lovely and calm it's as though they are beautiful water babies who come out of the tranquil ocean only on full moons to work at Yong's.<br/>Everything there is prepared with top notch ingredients and love.<br/>Even the water there tastes good, I'm not even kidding.<br/>100% best place in Melbourne
Jim4
Disappointing. Really don't understand the stellar reviews. The food was very average. I had mock salmon roe, kelp pad thai and kimchi pancakes. All but the latter was tasteless. Plus, the service was not very good and the seats were quite uncomfortable. Would not recommend at all.
Georgie Pelly
Better than Vegie Bar. If you like vegie bar but you don't like the 'vegan fad' come here. I enjoyed a lovely vegan meal with my friend the other day without the push and shove of some of the places that surround. Much like you, i actually like to sit at a table and hear my friends talk. It is a much more chilled vibe here and i am definitely coming back again and again. The staff are super friendly and down to earth. I like how the staff genuinely care that you enjoy the meal and have a good experience. Unlike other places near by we got a table right away and the staff were exceptional in their attentiveness and presence in the restaurant. Not at all in your face, but when you needed them they were always a glance away. This is refreshing in comparison to other vegan cafes i have experienced. Come here , try the raw pad thai and cheese cake. AMAZING! I forgot to mention the food is fast to come as well. It is a WIN, WIN, WIN.
Dolphin
Highly recommended!! I have been to here around 3yrs ago as first time. And still go to here:) Services are good, staffs try to smile all the time eventho it's very busy. And foods are aaamazing!!:D very unique!
Feebilicious
Insanely good. Such a fan of Yong Green Food. The Mexican beans are my favourite, although that raspberry cheesecake gets me every time. Always packed so get there as early as possible and be prepared to wait... Maybe spend a bit of time going over that menu- it's so hard to make a decision, everything is just insanely good!
Sharday_morley666
Amazing Amazing Amazing. The food here is amazing. If you a vegetarian, vegan or just a health nut you must try there food. You will not be disappointed.
Lisa Mamone
Absolutely amazing food! Highly recommend. I was surprises at $10 for a chicken skewer but it was probably the nicest piece of chicken I've ever had!! (Very spicy tho!)<br/>& the raw macadamia pizza is brilliant!<br/>Can't wait to try the deserts.
Food Is Life 👌
I like the food but the sizes are tiny! I always leave starving but I always go back haha!

Unique menu!. Dined in with 2 friends on a Friday evening. Staff were attentive and polite, but seemed a bit too busy - the place was at capacity so it's more than understandable. Despite being understaffed, the food was brought out promptly. Everything we ordered was perfect. The menu was really unique and nothing I've ever tried before. Overall a great dining experience!
Michael_nairn1
Most reviews had a good story to tell about YGF, and with one of us a vegetarian it seemed the place to go. No room inside but an outside table was fine and better than waiting. Some reviewers have had issues with the service, but we had no trouble in that regard. The unclarified/filtered "biodynamic" wine gave one of us a headache after about an hour, perhaps worth noting for some patrons (and I think perhaps a bit too far in terms of vegan purity?). The diakon-wraped smoked tofu entree was very good (wasabi mayo is highly addictive). The miso soup I was informed was good. The mains were a more mixed result. My "dragon bowl" was excellent - great balance of flavours and the brown rice was perfect (came with miso). All this helped the fact it was a modest sized portion. The tofu (chilli) hot pot I thought was unpleasant - seaweed was a bad choice to have as part of the dish, and the chilli was odd tasting. Definately a no from me, however the dish's actual orderer wasnt so harsh and said it was OK/good, but a bit of a letdown (should have gone with the lentil version). Overall, if you choose your dishes right you will have no regrets from this restaurant, and animals will love you for it.
Janes_one
Full tummy. We have been to Yong Green many times as we are never disappointed. The trouble is choosing what to have. I always look to see what the surrounding diners are having and thinking that maybe I should have ordered that. Eyes are always too big for my tummy!!
Katie Chuang
Amazing healthy and tasty food with warm service. Love everything about this place, only fault is there is so many things I'd love to try on the menu but not enough stomach space! had the honey date tea, macro dragon bowl and chocolate cheesecake this time and they were all delicious. definitely coming back!
Blah Blah
Just amazing. The raw food is amazing. Rawsagnia is spectacular.
Emily
This place is always busy, and they don't take bookings. We had to wait 20min for a seat which they call your mobile once it's free. Which was fine so we had a cocktail at Polly cocktail bar which is close by while we were waiting.<br/><br/>They are super friendly at yong greens!! <br/>Me and my boyfriend don't usually eat this food but thought it was a good idea as I'm on a detox. My boyfriend is the complete opposite of this kind of place, he loves his steak and beer haha! So I was a little worried. But we loved it!!<br/><br/>We ordered the Nori Rolls and Raw Nachos to start off with which were both amazing. The chia chips for the nachos were awesome.<br/><br/>Then I ordered the Raw Nutty Burger which was nice especially with the cashew cream but I did feel like the burger could have had more flavour, and he ordered the Tofu Katsu which tasted like meat! He loved it and sooo filling he almost couldn't finish it. I had a few bites coz it was amazing.<br/><br/>Then we finished with Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake oh my goodness to die for melts in your mouth and its all raw yum!<br/><br/>Also my boyfriend had the Red Rice Beer which he said was up there with the best his had. I had a sip and it tasted so crisp and refreshing.<br/><br/>Amazing food and its all raw, definitely coming back.

I think there has been a change of hands at this favourite vegan eatery. I questioned some of the ingredients in one of the dishes tonight and the young man who introduced himself as the manager was extremely rude and arrogant. It never used to be like this. The staff were always so helpful. It seems the whole spirit of the place has changed, so I guess it's time to change restaurants. Shame.
M-james
Diner Review. I usually don't review based on one visit alone - but the 'Raw Nutty Burger' was amazing, topped with the creamiest cashew cream and sliced avocado. Had been curious to try it for so long and was not sorry at all.<br/><br/>Service was friendly and prompt.
Happylittleeater
Wonderful. Where veggie bar is for the masses, Yong's is seemingly for the socially and environmentally conscious, whilst still being reasonably priced and offering a sizable menu. Food was great, though service was a little hit and miss, but happy to look past that given the quality of the food. Rawsagna... devine
Natasha
THE BEST. Seriously Melbourne needs more raw vegan / vegetarian cafes ... Each time I have eaten here I have easily spend around $100 that is because I just want one of everything on the menu :) Thumbs up
Nads
Delicious. I only discovered this place a few months ago, since then I've been here five times. The menu is extensive, the food is fresh and arrives really quickly even when it's super busy. The staff are friendly and efficient and when I've had to wait for a table they're happy for you to go off for a drink somewhere and they'll call you when your table is ready. I happily eat vegetarianbut this place also leaves my partner - who is a carnivorous European - quite content! A more consistent and tasty alternative to the veggie bar down the road. Not to mention a much nicer environment to eat in!
Rick Owen
The beat food ever. We drive from Hampton east to eat there regularly. The best items are the mushroom calamari, the raw pad thai , the green curry , the buckwheat pancakes and the tofu burger and the white chic cheesecake with berry sauce. Also amazing is the rawsange and the raw nachos. The food comes out very fast and consistently delicious. Frank ,one of the waiters is very helpful at recommending the best dishes to try. Very friendly service and always busy. They don't take bookings but you can usually get a table within 15 mins. By far my favorite food in Melbourne. Love it .
Steven Spike
I love this place! Food is fresh and so tasty. I must say its a little bit pricy but I guess you gotta pay of good right!<br/>Staf are simply fantastic.

Real Food!. Never disappointed with a meal at Yong Green Food. I live on the South Side but happily make the visit for a real and delicious meal at Yongs. When my man is having a pizza night in, I grab Yongs to go!
Food Lover
Absolutley brilliant! Best on Brunswick st!
Elenaanele
Delicious!. These guys have such damn nice food. I had the chia pudding on the weekend and the pecan pie! Always so good. Cannot believe it's all so healthy!
Laclem
This has got to be the best spot for vegans in Melbourne. Huge range of options. Everything is delicious. Staff very friendly. Even the coffee is good. Pushed to criticise, I might say it's not super cheap, but personally I'm happy to pay slightly over par for top quality. I just wish I lived closer in which case I'd go weekly. Recommend the dragon bowl with soy "beef" and the cold noodles. But it's all good here.
Ami Tran
Amazing!. Would highly recommend this place. Good service & food is very tasty!
Bean Fiend
Yong Green you ol' dog.... Awesome chow chow. All the staff are so friendly and smiley that I thought I was in a Colgate ad. Stop reading this and go there now.
Amanda Tony
Amazing. . Healthy and fresh! Thank u sammy for bringing me here xoxo
Bree
Can't believe it took me this long to get here! Nom nom nom amazing! Great raw options :)

Came here on a Thursday evening to celebrate with some girlfriends. The service was great, and the wait time for your food to cook was SO short!! The place was so full around 8PM. I got the highly recommended dragon bowl, just to see what the hype was. It's basically a tofu bibimbap without the hot clay pot. Thought it was a bit overrated, but my friend got the burger...and it looked so massive for a cheaper $12! The desserts all looked so tasty and delish, but they ALL contain nuts. Overall, the experience and the food was superb. Would come here again to try the tempeh/fofu burger and perhaps a smoothie!
Mario Karts
Just a bunch of leaves. I came here for dinner with a couple of friends who raved about how good it was. We waited half an hour in the cold for a table and the end result? I ended up leaving disappointed and hungry... <br/>Very overpriced for just a couple of leaves. Menu is very limited. As for the atmosphere, not inviting and very noisy.
Sarah O'Donohue
Quick and easy good, healthy food. Raspberry white chocolate cheesecake is amazing!
Always Hungry
Nice fresh food and juices. Plenty of choice for vegans and raw foodies.
Elwil8
I have been a vegetarian for years and just don't understand the hype surrounding this place. While the staff were nice, I found the food expensive for the small portions and to be honest a little tasteless. Unlike everyone else I won't be back.
Tara Crowley
Could not fault. This little restaurant is the best!<br/>Delicious, wholesome, well priced food.<br/>Sharp waiters/great customer service.<br/>Have been/will be back again and again and again.
Anna
I love yong. Such creative, wholesome and tasty dishes. I love the rawsagna, and the deserts are amazing. the staff are so lovely, you always feel at home. I'm so happy that this place exists!
Bec
Love it! Had tofu katsu and apricot honey tea, it was so delicious and filling. I would have had the green tea ganache for dessert but I couldn't fit it in! Can't wait to come back and try something else.
Larry
I am not a vego but was forced to come to Yongs but I loved it. Had some excellent dishes and it didnt concern me at all that there was no meat. Will definitely be back.
Robdog
1st raw food experience. As this was my first dabble into raw food I didn't quite know what to expect but I was bowled over with how good it was. The flavors were sensational and the experience has certainly whet my appetite to give this way of eating a go. We had a family lunch here for fathers day and while some family members were not keen to be going to an alternate restaurant (we are ca carniverous family) everyone walked away very happy and satisfied. There are plenty of menu items to choose from albeit light on meat content.. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
PickyFoodies
Went today for dinner and can say all the plates that were served were absolutely delicious. The raw pad Thai is incredible! Definitely a MUST! The only let down was the dessert (mango cheesecake), however after a quick chat with the server it was taken off our bill without hassle. Will most definitely come back soon for some more food!!
Dina
LOVE this place.. I couldn't stop saying it all night. The raw nachos were amazing and the Raw lasagne was gorgeous..
Yogi Bear
I'm not a vego. vegan. but the food here is awesome. excellent.
Janice Lee
LOVE LOVE LOVE. I love this place! The food is healthy and tasty.. my favourite dish would have to be the tofu katsu, the coleslaw plus the crunchiness of the katsu made every bite delightful! For the Pho - it would have been great if the flat rice noodle was used rather than vermicelli noodles. The quinoa fritters were delicious! Can't wait to go back to yong's!!
Alexandra Anna
The raw Pad Thai was delicious! This place is an absolute gem! Lots of flavours, lots of options, my new favourite vegan dig in Melbourne.
Irish Mick
Fantastic healthy food at a very reasonable price. Will certainly be returning!!

My favorite dish is the Thai green curry with brown rice. But, everything on this menu is delicious. The drinks are beautiful. The staff are attentive. This place needs to expand because its so popular due to the awesomely creative and yummy food. Thank you Yong Green foods for giving us organic, orgasmic foods.

Perfection. Amazing Service- every. single. time. <br/>Delicious, creative dishes! Highly recommend!

There isn't much to say except that this place offers quality, delicious food with plenty of options to satisfy the vegan, vegatarian, raw foodist, and carnivorous. Taste buds loved it, body is happy, wallet is not suffering #winning

AMAZING!!!. Went here last week for lunch - food is superb!<br/><br/>wonderful, tasty, clean food - super quick and friendly.<br/><br/>highly recommend the brown rice sushi and the quinoa fritters.<br/><br/>the bread for the burger was so tasty i could've eaten a whole plate of it alone!!
Stasty94
YONG YONGS. I had previously eaten twice a veggie bar and really enjoyed it so i thought id try out this place and compare the two! I personally preferred veggie bar, i found there wasnt a lot of meals on yongs menu that appealed to me. I ended up choosing a sort of lentil curry and rice dish, which was still lovely. Ive heard the deserts are amazing so ill have to go back to try them. Stuff was very friendly as well.
LoveFood
Love this place. Absolutely love your restuarant and concept. Food is always great and the service is fast. Wish you were open more often. Especially on a monday.
Tania
Tasty and healthy food offering vegan & gluten-free alternatives. Being on a restricted diet, I found it difficult to find a venue for a special birthday dinner. Yong Green Food ticks all the boxes! The food was inventive, fresh and delicious. The service was also excellent. We enjoyed the Dragon Bowl, Katzu Don and the raw chocolate cheesecake. It is worth going just for dessert. The vegan, gluten-free cheesecake is amazing! Can't wait to return.

First visit with a group of friends was anticlimactic at best. As a keen carnivore the concept of eating lentils and rice as a meal was not thrilling me. Trying to keep it safe with veggies, tofu and rice Yong Green Food certainly didn't live up to the hype. Matched by the fact it was a dry night out, it certainly isn't an experience I'm going to repeat in a hurry! Overpriced, lukewarm, basic food not delivered all that well, in my opinion anyway.

Came here for dinner tonight, second visit. Quick service. Shared the Quinoa patties which were really yummy. Followed by Mexi-chili beans with cashew cream and guacamole, Delish! My friend had the raw Kelp Pad Thai which was plentiful and consistent to last visit. Both decided to have dessert of Raw Lemon cheesecake, omg amazing! Raw Peacan Pie was tasty also, the banana and date flavours really shone through. Big thumbs up Yongs!

Creative. This place is definitely overpriced so it is worth getting something that is really 'out there' to get your moneys worth.<br/>We had the kimchi dumplings (delicious, but only a serve of 5!), the quinoa patties (again, beautiful, but only 2) and the oyster mushroom calamaris.<br/><br/>For people like me who don't eat dairy or gluten, this place is a haven, but we will be saving it for special occasions because of the cost.
Big Eyes For A Big Tummy
What's all the hype about??. Grown up eating asian food and i was shocked at what could be charged for just bean sprouts, carrots, lettuce, tofu, broccoli all mixed onto a bowl of rice with a bit of soy. really??? goodness. came home and opened my fridge thinking why couldn't i have just done that and saved $25 each. intrigued by the "foodies" around us who were raving on about how "different" and healthy this place was...hats off to these guys for setting up at the right location. am still shocked at the prices...do people realise how much a big big bag of bean sprouts cost in richmond??

No Birthday cake for you!. We took my sister here for her birthday and there were 10 of us. The food was good, the service was good until...we were not allowed to have the Birthday cake that we brought with us to celebrate my sister's birthday. We waited half an hour outside in the cold while our table became available because they take no bookings and then we had to rush out as soon as we ate because we weren't allowed to have the Birthday cake. They had no logical reason for it, the manager just said no. It was a Wednesday night so it wasn't as super busy as they may be on a weekend. All 10 of us had to leave and try to find another place that allowed us to celebrate her birthday cake. We went across the road to 'Palookaville' and were greeted with great service and they allowed us to have cake!

Great food and vibe. Everything was fresh and very flavorsome. Plenty of choices no matter what kind of food you are craving. Great place to bring someone who is new to vegetarian food as it shows how much variety and flavor can be found in Vegan food! Service was average but everyone was very friendly so definitely no complaints. Food also came very quickly. Will be back for sure :)

Great. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. I am not vegetarian myself, but found the food to be ‘light’ and tasty, with quality ingredients. The menu is quite extensive and varied, not just twelve variations of eggplant goo in a tomato-based sauce that one often gets in some vegetarian places.
Vivan
It's alright, great place to take vegan friends.. They'll appreciate it
Jen
Went yesterday ordered Thai green curry requested NGO non garlic and onion told waitress when order but curry came with garlic and onion...those that are strict vegetarian shouldn't go there
Lola
A guiltless dinner experience. I've been here twice and both times my experience has been very positive. Service is quick and food albeit simple, is tasty and healthy. I always leave satisfied and without feeling guilty!

SO GOOD. Great Service, warm friendly and inviting staff.<br/>Love everything this place has to offer.<br/>Favourite place to eat. Healthy and tasty.

Surprisingly Tasty. As a passionate carnivore, i was apprehensive making my first steps into this hippy vegan heaven.... how wrong i was!<br/><br/>I was in a group of 4 - we shared a number of mains and thoroughly enjoyed it. <br/><br/>Would be keen to return and try out some other options from the sizeable menu.<br/><br/>Only potential critcism is that the waiter didn't seem particularly knowledgeable - i asked what was in the dishes and he hadn't a clue. I'm sure people must ask questions like this a lot, it would provide a bit more reassurance if staff had this knowledge to share.<br/><br/>It was also a bit on the pricey side. All in all, i enjoyed the experience and would definitely return in the future.

Vege Goodness. One thing that I miss most about being a meat eater is Pho.. But Yong Green has cured my broken heart. You will never see me in Vege Bar again and I'll be telling the town! Delicious!

Yum! Table service was a bit slow but you quickly forget that when you eat the food.

Delicious dining experience!. We finally made it to Yong Green Food after reading about it on urbanspoon a while ago. It was worth the trip. I enjoyed my dish "macro dragon boat" so much that I have been thinking about it since we left the cafe! My husband had green curry, it was simply fresh, tasty and just feel good in the body. Wholesome, tasty food, friendly and efficient staff plus nice environment, they've certainly got all the main ingredients right. I can't wait to go there again and try their other dishes!

JUST GO THERE!!!!

Very nice. One of the best Vegetarian options around, nice clean tasty food.
Iloveveggies
A+.. I love everything I've had here, but there is so much more on the menu I want to try. The green tea ganache is unbelievable.
Amanda Stephens
Have never been disappointed by a meal here. Everything is amazing!!!!! Sweet staff and speedy service too

This is my favorite quick/cheap place to eat. I considered not writing a review because I don't want to share this place with anyone, but the raw lasagna needs to be tried by everyone; my meat obsessed dad even loved it. The chocolate fudge made out of avocado tastes like heaven. The best bit is everything is so healthy and fresh you can stuff your self silly with out feeling guilty.
Matthew
This is probably one of the best, if not the best, vegetarian restaurants I've been to. Its got an amazing selection of food to choose from and every meal I've had has tasted damn incredible. It's also very reasonably priced. It's not as cosy as it could be, and service is sometimes rushed, but then again no wonder, it's always jam packed.
Lauren Shay
So I didn't fall totally in love with this place. The things that got my engine started were: the menu, wow, so much choice and mouthwatering!, the gyoza, woweeee and the sauce that came with the gyoza! bazinga! Oooh! and the salmon nori rolls, yum yum yum! and that raw cheesecake. Packed full of deliciousness. Unfortunately, the rawsanga wasn't incredible. A bit bland and nothing special. The Nutty Burger - was fantastic but just not enough salad to go with it! All in all I will definitely be lured back by that menu but sadly, Yong Green Food didn't have my head spinning in a good way.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first trip to Yong on Saturday night ... Clearly popular with all ages...no bookings but we got seated quickly with service to match... The food was sublime.. Fresh tasty and imaginative fare ... Reminded me of the food at the upmarket health retreat Camp Eden... High quality and very good for you!
Michael Gazzo
I really love the food and the concepts.. But it's so expensive.. $79 for two people.. Drinks were $8. I'm not leaving a negative post but I was suprised the food was so expensive

Surprisingly AMAZING!. I took my mother here because she's allergic to everything and we both love vegetarian. It was packed (good sign) and buzzing with good vibes. I ordered the Rawsagne and my Mother had the stir fry with brown rice and we wolfed them both down with absolute pleasure! The lasagne tasted incredible, the cashew cream actually tasted like the best white sauce I'd ever eaten and I was immensely happy with my choice. The brown rice stirfry was just as amazing, an incredibly large serving which she, a tiny woman of only 5'1/4, finished in minutes. I can't recommend this place enough. <br/>Go there and eat happy.
HonestCharley
Quirky, friendly and delicious!. Vegan, gluten-free and raw spectacular! There is something on the menu for everyone. Between the group, we had the mexican chilli beans, the chicken wrap, the tofu katsu, the chickpea curry, the lentil hot pot and the summer rolls: all were delicious! The tofu katsu was particularly good. Desert was delicious, the lemon cheesecake, the fudge and the black sesame icecream: all great. A little noisy, but an excellent place to catch up with friends or family when there is a vegan in the family. Yong Green Food has also won the Victoria Vegetarian Restaurant of the year 2010 and 2011. I'll be going back many times!
Jenniper
A++. Only complaint about Yong's is that the menu is too big and I'll never be able to eat everything on it! Everything is fresh and outstanding. Yong's is really a special dining experience, for vegans and non-vegans alike.
Sandy
Best Veggie place in Melbourne. If you're a vegetarian or vegan I highly recommend you try this place. Food is consistently excellent, staff are incredible friendly and vegan dessert is amazing! Prices are also very reasonable.
Sarah Plunkett
My new favourite restaurant!. I dined at Yong Green Food last night for the first time and was WOWed like I haven't been in a very long time. <br/><br/>From the enthusiastic greeting upon my arrival, to the delicious and filling meals (I had the Chia Nachos and the Macro Dragon Boat - which I have been dreaming of ever since) this restaurant was one of the most pleasant and delicious experiences of recent times. <br/><br/>I will not only be back, but am on a mission to try and learn how to recreate such healthy and delicious fare in my own home! <br/><br/>10/10.

Some of the best vegan food I have eaten in over 15 years!

THIS PLACE MAKES ME HAPPY. I love Yong Green. I wish the owners every fortune. The staff, the consisent high-quality of the food is like nothing else on the Brunswick Street strip.<br/>The Macro Dragon Bowl and the Black Sesame Ice Cream is heavenly.
Peter Cartledge
Terrific food loved the quinoa fritter and tofu katsu. They messed up our order that kept us waiting for our mains and forgot the Kimchi.
VeganLing
Best Vegan/Vegetarian Food in Melbs!. This is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in town. The food is spectacular, and Im especially a fan of the raw dishes they offer! My favourite would have to be the 'Cashew Bread Raw Sandwich." The desserts are to die for as well....don't get me started on how delicious the 'blueberry cheescake' is. I brought a few of my friends here who arent' vegan to Yongs, and they all loved it. If you are vegan or veggo...or even if you aren't...you must try this place! I haven't found any faults yet...and I eat here 1/2 times a week!
Karmicintent
Overpriced, Average Food- Doesn't Live Up To The Hype. Heard about this place from many friends who raved about the food, so made my way there instead of my old VB haunt across the road. The staff were friendly and professional, however the "Raw WildCrafted water" pissed me off- it's just water from a spring, no need to get fancy about it and charge ridiculous amounts of money.<br/><br/>Had the Tofu Katsu which was well done and quite tasty, and also tried some of my husband's Dragon Bowl, which had a good flavour but not enough vegetables or tofu- mostly rice, with a tiny bowl of miso which can't have been more than a sip really. Friend had the chickpea curry which was a tiny serving and didn't seem too enamoured with it. We shared the raw pecan pie which was a tiny slice for 9 bucks and tasted like nutty mush- I make lots of raw desserts and this one was a lazy attempt.<br/><br/>For the prices you are paying, the food is just not good enough, and portions are way too small. Ambiance is all right but the general vibe is a bit try hard- organic, macrobiotic, jump onto any bandwagon there is. Not sure I would go back as I didn't find the menu very adventurous and there are better veg places to eat for sure.
Kevin Murray
The chick pea korma was particularly good. Very pleasing service.
Boilinghotfrog
Maybe Yong Green thinks it doesn't have to try anymore. This place has never been a fav- too many mock meats, but have HAD some really good meals. Went in for lunch - lentil hot pot with smoky eggplant. Well for starters it was more like lentil slop, no eggplant, and bit of rice. I'm 52kgs, I never complain about portion sizes- but please, for $17 there needs to be quality substance. My friend had the chickpea curry and once we were done he popped in to another place for a second meal.

Goodbye Vegiebar, Hello Yongs!. Filling a long-needed gap for raw/vegan/vego competition in Melb's marketplace, this place ticks so many boxes for so many reasons. Initially the only off-put was having to wait for tables - efficiently solved by adding 2nd shopfront. Staff are effortlessly unassuming- quiet, quick, informal, attentive unlike the attention seeking sychophants at VB across the road. VB has long dominated that market on Brunswick St for Vego food and it's timely a new competitor showed them how it's done in 21st Century. Its boring menu- long overdue for innovation not only in recipes but display, marketing, concept AND service not to mention noise levels. I don't know about you but if I wanted to eat in a nightclub atmos, I'd go to Izakaya Den.<br/>Yong's menu alone is v reasonably priced and complex, creative, delicate and sensational! Makes VB dishes look what they are: steamed veg with satay sauce which I could make any night at home. Having the options to chose from Raw or vegan or vego is wonderful- we immediately need outlets in Brunswick, Preston and hey, Doncaster shopping Town! this movement for clean, fresh and reasonably priced food must start to become more dominant in a foodie capital like Melbourne.<br/>I really like the staff at Yongs bc they are minimal and don't work there just to 'perform' as 'staff of....'.it's also good to see a few males added to the crew( Korean lensless black glasses due a winner!).<br/>Menu - look around u- check out what others are eating at tables - you will know the winning dishes this way! Stab in the dark combinations are often not successful but the more you go, the more you try and the better you know what you prefer. It's an extensive menu- u could go for a whole year and not have sampled each meal. Desserts ARE definately worth trying - don't overlook these little jewels. Each one a work of artistry, clever planning, thoughtful ingredient combinations and simple display.<br/>I love this venue for so many reasons and I can't wait to see it spread across the city - although, it becoming a Lord of the Burger mark II could be v unpalatable!
Belle
Sensational, clean, fresh flavours. Eating out vegan can be expensive however Yong Green Food provide incredible tasty food at an affordable price. I had the Rawsagna & the Raw Pad Thai to share with my friend. Followed by blueberry cheesecake which should not be missed!! All dishes were beautiful. The sundried tomato pesto in the Rawsagna really lifted the dish so it hit all of the right notes. The Pad Thai had a hint of chilli & the cashew sauce was divine-I could eat this all day! Thanks Yong, will definitely be back soon
Kinder Cuisine - Karla
Vegan heaven!. Fantastic menu with a mostly Asian / Indian influence. Plenty of raw food options here as well. My partner is not vegetarian but he enjoyed the delicious food as much as I did as a vegan. You have to try the raw fudge for dessert! So good!
Katy R
I had a kimchi sushi roll and some nutty burger(?). The taste was fine. I just wonder was it fresh or not. Because I saw they already made a sushi and put in container and they put the things in microwave. The roll wasnt fresh at all and was so dry! Even i was wondering Is it really about organic food? I don't like how they pre-made food even they say it's fresh and raw!
Apples And Pears
Such a lovely place - so modest about how gorgeous their food it. I'm confident of a healthy and wholesome meal every time.

Best Vegetarian Asian Style Food. I have been to Yong Green several times. Although vegetarian asian style places are dime a dozen in Melbourne, this place seems to go the extra mile, where the food is always of a higher standard. I really appreciate their Kim Chi as it is so difficult to find vegan kim chi elsewhere and I live the myriad of forms in which this healthy condiment appears here: Kim Chi sushi, kim chi gyoza, and probably my favourite, kim chi pancake. I also really love the health conscious approach of Yongs (which I’m really into) which means you can order kombucha, superfood smoothies, macro-biotic dinners, tempeh green curry (one of my favourites) and an extensive raw menu that is such as rarity in Melbourne. While the raw mains are impressive and creative, the raw desserts really shine, with the raw cheesecakes having the added bonus of not being overly sweet.<br/><br/>All in all a very special restaurant, one in which both vegetarian and asian styled restaurants could learn something from. THIS is how its done.
Bubblesandbeans
Amazing!. Really friendly and helpful staff. <br/><br/>Try the raw cheese cake, A-MA-ZING!
Mae
The food here is always tasty however as a strict vegan I think they should be more specific on the menu where animal products are involved as I did not enjoy chowing down on 1/4 bowl of nachos and realising it was dairy based cheese and sour cream! Was really upset an the staff did not care! <br/>More care should be taken! How ever I will be back for the desserts :)
Ash.dodd13
Consistently lovely. Have been to Yong Green's four times so far - love their motto and their food. The staff are polite and friendly and the service for us tonight was super quick (although I think it slowed down for others once the 7pm truck load of diners arrived) I love the raw cacao shake and the tempeh burger. Rawsagna and pecan pie didn't disappoint tonight. The icecreams are big serves so definitely worth sharing! Love the decor too...highly recommended!! Vegetarian's wet dream indeed!!

Divine!! Beautiful staff, a.... Divine!!<br/>Beautiful staff, atmosphere and food.<br/>You can feel the love...and you can taste it!<br/>We love it.
Hunga Pains
Almost turned me vegetarian. The food is so good here you are almost tempted to ditch meat all together. I wish there were more places like this in Melbourne. I hope they've started a trend!
Hemi
We came here to find inspiration for raw food recipes and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing service was great. Chia chips nachos was very tasty, as was the vege burger and seaweed salad. Desserts were rich and yum. We didn't appreciate the doof doof music but guessed that was to speed up the turn over. Great vege dinner. Yum
FierceCosmic
AMAZING. I LOVE this place SO MUCH!!!!!!! everything about it is great the staff the atmosphere, the food is so lovingly created.
Suedy
A vegetarian's wet dream. Seriously good vego food here. Their burgers are cheap and tasty, and their other mains are to die for. Their fake meat has a fantastic texture, and is incredibly tender. They have a particularly delicious Japanese curry here, and I can never go past their raw cacao shake. <br/><br/>Add to that a really lovely atmosphere with good service and a great price, and you've got yourself a winner. Just be warned that the place is pretty small, so be prepared to wait a while for a table, and no large groups. I love Yong!!
Fresh Chilli In Soy Sauce
WENT IN WITH HOPE, CAME OUT WITH DISAPPOINTMENT. I ordered the Rawsagna, Dragon Bowl and the Kimchi Pancake. Rawsagna was the best of all, nothing like I ever had. Ingredients were fresh, love the cashew cream sauce, the chilli paste and the flavours in the Dragon Bowl. However, the soy beef in the Dragon Bowl is extremely rubbery, go for the other choice of tofu instead. Overall the food portion are small, overpriced and not that spectacular. Except for the Rawsagna. <br/><br/>Furthermore, they have an open kitchen in the room where everyone is eating, making it extremely smokey and stuff. Also, the small size of the restaurant also means that there is a long waiting list, and after I was done with my meal, the waitress was asking if I want deserts or the bill, which gives me the feeling that she was chasing me out.<br/><br/>Lastly, as the restaurant is in the fitzroy area, you would expect to take forever to find a parking spot if you're driving. All in all, I will only go back for the Rawsagna. Oh wait, NOT!
Shani
I'm Wrapped!. Yong Green's was recommended to me by my work colleagues so I thought I would check it out. Upon my arrival, a lovely young waitress greeted me and seated me in a spot near the kitchen, so that I wouldn't get cold. I was spoilt for choice by the menu, being a vegetarian I sat there in glee. I decided to order a Lentil Wrap and as I was on my work break, asked for take away. I scoffed down my warm wrap as I walked back to work and was incredibly delighted - it was one of the most delicious wraps I have ever feasted on. I highly recommend Yong Green Food, it's not too pricey and it's very delicious!
Marlene Abela
Yum Yum Yum. Walked by Yong Green Food thinking it was empty opend the door and jammmed packed. Orderd lunch Vegie Burger and my partner Rawsagne...OOOOOOOOHHHH my, the best we have ever had, so much so we went again for dinner both had a cooked meal which was very filling. The deserts to DIE for Raw Cheese Cake" blueberry" and Raw Pecan Pie...just wish the peices were bigger...they were just the best. Will be back again and again...cant wait!
Cubalicious
Tastes great, portion shrank. Menu is great and their food still tastes good but unfortunately portion has shrunk and price has increased. So I am not sure if I will be a regular patron in future.
Pasha
Amazing! Great flavours without compromising the health factor. Greenie smoothie rocks and the macro dragon bowl was so tasty. Definitely my local from now on.
Thom
Fantastic food and service. The grilled chicken burger was amazing!

Creative, delicious, nutritious food! A dream come true for any vegan or vegetarian!! Would highly recommend!!!

Kind service. Came in here two years ago because my group and I got kicked out of Bimbo Deluxe (due to bringing in birthday cake ... lighten up guys), and it looked like it was the only cafe that could accommodate a big group like us.<br/><br/>The lady working was very sympathetic to us and allowed us to stay and eat our cake :) Little did I know that this cafe is a well respected foodie venue!<br/>The teas were amazing and the service was very friendly. Definitely recommend this place :)

Vegan Hostage. I confess I am a meat eater. However, I am hostage to family Vegan regime at times and so on a recent visit to Brunswick St we went Vegetarian...sorry but that's the best I can do. I'd eaten at Yong's previously but was happy to try it again after a good Age Review.<br/>I felt as if I was revisiting my 70s Uni days when I walked in. Decor hip and young. Service good.Food ok but not enough when you have the hungries.<br/>We started with a passable Chips and Dips entree to share.Specifically, the Beetroot dip was tasty.<br/>Both visits have seen me have the Chili Frijole main. I wonder if it is because I am internalising Chile con carne. Both plates on the two visits were tasty but leaving me wanting more.<br/>My family member had the Dragon Bowl and he found this most adequate.<br/>No desserts as we were in a rush. Wait time for meals was good.<br/>Service friendly both at the table and at the register.<br/>If I ever were to go Vegan/vegetarian then this is the place to start out.
Ghazakhor
Good Vegi option. Nice atmosphere with a good service that you'd expect from a casual place. Good range of vegi menu with a good quality.
Sander
Kimchi pancake was nice, but didn't have the strong kimchi flavour I am used too. Rawsagne was good, but small portion. Dragon bowl was plain boring - too simple. Green tea cheese cake taste like coconut.
Orange_tree
Giving veganism a good name. The signature dish here is the rawsagna, a raw version of lasagna constructed with layers of zucchini slices, mushrooms, spinach, raw tomato sauce and cashew cream. We ordered it for the sheer novelty, fully expecting to hate it (raw zucchini? raw tomato sauce??) After the first bite though, there was no question the plate would be licked clean. It wasn't just a great vegan dish, it was a great dish, period.<br/><br/>I'd also recommend the green tea cheesecake and the pecan pie, on the caveat that they aren't judged against how well they mirror their non-vegan counterparts. In this aspect, they would fail but judged on their own merits, they are delicious. In fact, they should probably be renamed to green tea custard slice and banana-pecan mousse pie which more aptly describe how they taste. But since I'm not the owner, you'll just have to set your own expectations!<br/><br/>The chicken burger was pretty good - the soft fluffy bread was a standout. However, give the kimchi gyoza a miss. The bland, pasty filling combined with the doughy skin was disappointing.

Dragon Bowl. Love it

Ok food, bad coffee.... Went to Yong Green Food on a Friday at lunch and it was pretty busy but we got a table easily. I am a meat lover but was excited to try a raw food experience. As a table we ordered the sushi, a burger, a curry and a bean wrap. The food came out quite quickly and service was good. Food was ok, my curry was similar to a local asian shop curry and nothing special. Apparently the burger was really good and the wrap tasted just like a burrito. My friend was not impressed with her sushi and her almond coffee was horrible. It tasted like it had been loaded up with salt. Yuk.<br/>In all, the actual restaurant, service and staff were all good, food didn't really tickle my fancy. Was good to try something new, and this would be great for Vegans who want a substantial meal, but I won't be going back.

Yong Green Foods has been high on my list of places to try for a while now, but after visiting I'm only sorry I didn't get there sooner! Firstly I went there for lunch Thursday with a friend & ended up enjoying it so much that I was back there for lunch on Saturday with 3 other people. Even my sister who is a confirmed carnivore (& who nearly killed me when she found put there was no meat) loved it! Personally, it's not only the idea of Yong Green Food I love- they also deliver on flavor & satisfaction. Every taste makes it easier to forget that the majority of the menu is vegan, & the presence of brown rice leaves you full well before the meal is finished. Oh, & as a side note- I don't know of anyone whose been able to finish a meal here. I really can't recommend this place highly enough- good for the body, soul & wallet!
Alice In Wonderland
Anybody who knows me knows I love my meat! Parma and pint, beef phò, etc - I eat anything from Bogan to Asian, what I don't do is vegan! BUT! I was dragged to this place I'd never heard of, all I knew was they don't serve meat, AT ALL and seriously, a plate without meat is unheard of for me! ....anyway, dragged, against will, looked over the menu, saw the words, fish, beef and chicken and got confused. I thought meat and fish made from tofu was a myth and something they only did in The Simpsons.... Thankfully, it's not! Oh my!!!! Can I just say, WOW!!! YUM!!! I'm going back!!! I'm converted, it was great, if you haven't been their, you NEED TO!!! you'll be thankful you did!
Rochelle
Dragon Bowl. Simple, filling, and yum. Tofu could have had more flavour, but overall very happy.

Beautiful and very tasty raw and vegan food. Lovely chai and flavorful MEAL size salads.

Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful, humble and well priced.<br/>the burgers are sensational. beautiful vibe to the whole place and lovely staff.

As good as it gets!. These gentle wizards of the culinary industry are saving the World just 1 meal at a time.<br/>Where there is no slaughtering or abuse of animals taking place you can expect a different type of person on both sides of the kitchen door and hence the welcoming and calm environment, the smiles and feel good experience.<br/>The food here is extraordinary and showing a great flair for taste and presentation with a climactic affair at the end with those desserts - WOW!<br/>Restaraunteurs such as these should be applauded, bringing such inventive and equisitly tasty food to Melbournians. Tell your friends, we are!

I was Yonging for this food.. oh bad pun. So on a cold wintery night, my friend and I finally made it to Yong Green, after many "I can't make it tonight, sorry!" Beautiful warm setting, quaint wooden tables & funky staff. We enjoyed beautiful Kim Chi Sushi: perfectly executed! The Dragon Bowl with Soy Beef and Brown rice with big steaming bowls of Miso.. Quince Honey Tea sweetened our cold bones and we grinned over the raw chocolate cheesecake. Was such beautiful food that came out within 10 minutes of ordering! Thoroughly impressed and looking forward to going back and trying all the other healthy temptations on offer. Cheers Yong

How can this be?. Raw carrot cake? My daughter took me for Mother's day lunch. I was intrigued by the raw carrot cake as well as the raw cheesecakes. BUT sweet heaven... to the point that i went back to Yong Green Food cafe three more times in the following fortnight to savour bean nachos, sweet fruit tea, cheesecakes, salads, dips and yes much more carrot cake. Those girls get about the cooking business in a pitter-patter manner that seems to involve secrets, magic and love potions.

Fantastic fresh food. I had the rawsagna and raw green tea cheesecake which were both excellent. The greatest highlight was the date and honey tea, I could have drank a second pot. Although the rawsagna looked like a small portion, I was pretty full afterwards and had to have a break so I could fit in the cheesecake. I will definitely be going back as everything coming out of the kitchen looked good.<br/><br/>The waitress was lovely and all the staff were smiling. Calm, chilled out atmosphere.

My vegetarian friend was visiting, so we decided to try this vegetarian restaurant. The food here is very healthy, being 'raw' food. We had the rawsagne, the thai green curry and kim chi pancake. I didn't like the curry, a bit bland. The rawsagne was interesting, served cold with slices of vegetables making up the layers. The kim chi pancake wasn't bad. It wasn't a hearty meal, but I guess that's probably not the point of this restaurant. It's not for everyone but if you like healthy food, you'll definitely find it here.
Bella
Healthy and delicious, this is like having therapy. I shared a large smoothie with a friend and had the chickpea wrap. I have since been back for an immune booster and the teriyaki chicken. There is a lot of love in this restaurant!

It's different.... After hearing such great reveiws I was so excited to go to Yong Green Food, it took some convincing of my sister however. First impression: cute, friendly and relaxing. It's not the sweet stuff I ended up having a problem with, but the savoury. I chose the rawsagne, while my sister got the nutty burger...which wasn't so much a burger, but a nutty patty. I think the problem we had was that there wasn't much flavour. More fresh herbs would have been nice as well as seasoning. I did love the appearance of the food, and the delicacy of the various textures ... but flavourwise, it wasn't all there for me.<br/><br/>The smoothies though were delicious and definitley different to what you'd find elsewhere. I didn't get to try the cakes, amazingly I was full!.. but the idea of a eating a cake made from coconut is enough to make me regret my decision not to get it...<br/><br/>overall, I did like it because it was different, but I don't think I would go back. But maybe i'm just picky because as I was eating, two customers said it was the best food they had eaten in a while... so if you want, have a go.... its nice to have something different once in a while...

YAY FOR YONG. Don't be deterred by the 'Raw Food' slogan - they don't just do raw food. It is of course a feature, and does not mean the cold, green, flavourless fare you might suspect, but rather unprocessed, top quality ingredients lovingly sculpted into various mouthwatering creations. The raw 'cheesecakes' are made from seeds, nuts, dates, coconut all, agave, fresh fruit..luscious! There's also hot food, lentils, curries, great korean selection and more..the service is warm, welcoming and one of a kind on Brunswick St..

The next stage in veganism. Yong Green is one of those special places where the great and warm service is matched by the food. The Tuna on rice is not huge, but doesn't need to be. It's a meal that you linger over, dipping bits of the pretend tuna into the magic sauce. After I finished I could barely eat dessert, but Yong Green's raw vegan cheesecake is one of the great joys of Melbourne dining. It is simply the finest dessert I have ever eaten. It agrees with the system too: it energises and there is no nasty sweets hangover the next day. As another reviewer on this site aptly said: if you are vegan you simply MUST try this place. I would add that if you love food, be you a vegan or carnivore, you must also try Yong Green.

Rawsagne!. Who would have thought 'rawsagne' would be so delicious?!?! I was very intrigued and after reading many reviews thought i'd go out on a limb and try it. It was so different, yet delicious. The raw carrot cake was amazing!!!! Although i haven't been fully converted to the raw vegan movement i can honestly say the food is anything but bland and simple and i can't wait for my next raw experience!

Stomps on expectations. I went to have lunch at Yong Green Food with a friend on Tuesday. We were greeted by the loveliest ladies and offered a table. The service was incredibly quick and friendly. It was one of the most surprising and delightful lunches I have had in a long time.<br/><br/>The most memorable dish we had was the Nutty Burger, an item which is 'raw cuisine'. For those who are not familiar with it, raw cuisine is meals which have not been cooked as the name suggests. I saw a documentary while I was in Beijing about raw cuisine and was quite sceptical about how it would taste. This burger blew me away! The burger pattie was made of carrots, walnut, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, vegies and herbs, all served with raw tomato sauce, cashew cream and salad. It was incredible! I cannot stop raving about it to everyone I know! In addition, the cashew cream was the most perfect compliment to the pattie. <br/><br/>I loved eating at Yong Green Foods and look forward to trying more of their raw cuisine. They have converted me from being a sceptic to an avid fan!

Best Veggie Restaurant in Melbourne.. I'm almost reluctant to post this review (cause I kinda wanna keep this baby all to mah-self) - but in the spirit of converting more of the omnivorous population to sweet, sweet vegetarianism, please allow me to wax crazy-lyrical about the extraordinary phenomenon that is Yong Green Food.<br/><br/>We moved away from the Fitzroy area about a year ago - at around the same time the two of us made the switch to being full-time vegos (as opposed to semi-pesco-flexis). <br/><br/>However, now fully fledged lettuce-munchers, living smack-bang in the middle of the CBD, the search for decent vegetarian fare is paramount to us.<br/><br/>This evening, we were in desperate need of great food, and working late on a Saturday evening, we really couldn't be arsed cooking for ourselves. I wanted some hearty green goodness, so we thought, "Vegie Bar it is, then." <br/><br/>Hubs isn't the hugest fan of Vegie Bar's loud, raucous and often abrupt cafeteria-style dining - I tend just to ignore it and tuck into my steamed vegies. But this evening, we couldn't even get a table.<br/><br/>Up the road we trotted to Yong Green Food ("you know - just to have a look") - this place too, was packed. But there was *something* about the vibe that made us more than happy to dash up the road to St. Judes for a drink while we waited for a table.<br/><br/>When we finally sat down to order, I nearly fell of my chair with the pure thrill that was reading the menu - it caters incredibly well (relative to most other restaurants) to gluten free, raw food, and vegan customers. This makes me happy, largely because any combination of the above is sure to ensure in a tastier, healthier dish, irrespective of how one might normally eat. Plus, the plethora of dishes that are clearly marked "organic" added to my overwhelming delight. <br/><br/>We ended up ordering the phenomenally fresh Seaweed Salad, the Dragon Bowl (which was a vegan, brown-rice based bibimbab, complete with vegie & funghi-based miso), and the freakin' amazing (what I suspect was homemade) Tempeh Burger. I also had a green energy juice (I think it was called this) - which was (roughly) a juice of leafy greens, apple, carrot & ginger. Pricey, but all organic. So not really that pricey with all things considered. <br/><br/>All up, we paid $45. For 3 very hearty, largely organic gourmet veggie dishes and an organic juice, this was small change to part with. <br/><br/>I should also add that the atmosphere was wonderful, warm, safe, and hugely, hugely fun, and the staff were just wonderful. Generous, polite, swift, friendly (if a little run off their feet - but hey, that's Saturday night for you). Everything was glimmering with love and mindfulness, clean and deeply positive. <br/><br/>Yong Green Food: "Food for Sustainability" is the epitome of compassionate eating in Melbourne. I can't actually recall having eaten at a vego restaurant anywhere else (in the world, to be honest) that has taken such generous care of the mindful eating community, and serious foodies at once.

A raw delight. While raw food is their main selling point, I went there to try something new and that's what I got.<br/>Ninja quick service and a delightful atmosphere, my raw burger was a pretty tasty treat given all I previously knew about raw food was salads.<br/>yummers.

Vege Delights. This is one of my new favourite restaurants! I especially loved the fake pho bo which was not only delicious but the closest thing I've had to those I had in Vietnam.

Love it. Ive always wanted to try raw food but don't have access to it,unlike my sister who lives in the usa and always raves about it.anyways i wasn't diaspointed.i had the rawsagna and it was really filling and delicious,i could eat it everday.i also had the chocolate raw cheesecake which was nice maybe a bit to rich it tasted like loving earths cocoa butter which is nice but very rich,it must have had a similar component in it,i'm defiantly going back,we should have more raw food restaurants in melbourne, its so good for you.i wish they had a delivery service so i could order the items for dinner at home.

Excellent. All vegetarian, with a nice peaceful atmosphere. I recommend the chickpea wrap and the pomegranate tea.

Absolute delight. I make sure i pay at least one visit to Yong Green when I come to Melbourne. Delightfully tasty and presented food. All good elements of an excellent organic/vegan/raw restaurant are there sans pretentiousness and high price tags. Very highly recommended.

If you are vegan you NEED to go here.. Best raw vegan food in Melbourne. Yong Green Food is probably my favourite vegetarian restaurant in Melbourne. For a small restaurant the menu is huge but unlike other places i've tried, they do such varied food so well. <br/><br/>My favourite meal here starts with a smoothie, they are all good you really can't go wrong. But you should probably get a large glass because if you dont you will want more. Next I get the Raw Nutty Burger. The size of this meal is decieving - it looks not that big, but its so satisfying to eat. The burger patty is full of flavour, and the cashew cream goes so well with the crisp salad. I dont think i could ever leave Yongs without eating dessert. Raw Vegan Green Tea Cheesecake. This dessert looks as amazing as it tastes. <br/><br/>I love everything about Yong Green Food........

Yummy Vegan Friendly and Gluten Free. Went last night. Had the Japanese Curry, it was super delicious! I'm not vegan, but most food is vegan & friendly which i thought was great. Can't wait to go back.

Delicious, interesting, good atmosphere.. When you're vegetarian, you can get a bit sick of the small amount of options on offer when eating out. This place is awesome because I can eat everything on the menu and there's such a wide variety of vegetarian, vegan and raw food dishes to try. I love that so much of the food is delicious, yet it also feels like you're doing something good for your body - even when eating the desserts! Also, the people who run this place are lovely. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Vegan Restaurant. Visited this place for the first time two nights ago - I just so happened to park my car outthe front and I was about to go to another restraurant but decided to try my luck with this instead.<br/><br/>The food was unreal - I had the Thair Green Curry with brown rice, and also the nachos with beetroot & hummus dips. The food was really lovely, tasted amazing, very generous servings, and the prices were excellent - the curry and rice was $13.50, and the Nachos about $8. <br/><br/>The raw food options were also great - there is a really amazing variety of high class vegan and raw food options that even non-vegetarians like myself can really enjoy!

A wide selection of vegan/veg/GF food on the menu. Has delicious pancake as starter, tasty mock fish and decadent blueberry dairy free cheesecake. Will come back.

Stunning. I came here for the first time a couple of weeks ago I was excited by the raw food concept it is something that I follow but not 100 %. I came with a friend who ordered a cooked green curry. I ordered raw nachos and raw blue berry cheesecake. I am hooked. I am back today after dreaming about it for over a week. I had rawsagna and choccheese cake this time. I will be here a lot. And after I gonthrougj the raw menu I am going to try the cook menu too. Lovely atmosphere. Lovely owners. Good prices.

The wrong kind of raw?. Although most of the food we ordered was fine, the staff didn't deliver 3 of our dishes..which for a party of only 4 patrons is absolutely pathetic. and this was despite coming back to the table after taking our order to double check on what my friend had ordered, that item was one that was forgotten! the waiter was writing down the orders, so I'm not sure where the communication breakdown was happening. <br/>To top it off, we ordered raw carrot cake for desert, and when they brought it to the table...we were told, "its frozen, so just wait a bit until it thaws out."<br/>Are you freaking kidding? No self respecting restaurant would ever even think of serving up an item of food that is frozen when it wasn't meant to be. And it wasn't like it was edible frozen, it literally was rock hard. We were dumbfounded.<br/>I do think this eatery has potential however a lot more attention to service is definitely needed.

AMAZING. A refreshing new place for anyone, vegan, raw, vegie or otherwise.<br/>A lovely atmosphere, the small shop front hides a great amount of character and kind owners.<br/><br/>Anyone raw, or interested in raw foods, should try the cashew bread sandwhich (my tongue went a bit crazy with the flavours).<br/>The raw cacao smoothie was subtley delicious!<br/>This place would be absolutely perfect for someone transitioning to raw foods, as the rest of the menu is vegan!<br/><br/>This is a fresh new menu I have been waiting for in the vegan food scene in melbourne.<br/>It is inexpensive for the quality of the foods (some other raw food places are way more expensive) and the flavours are beautiful.<br/><br/>I also had the "chicken" wrap, which is VERY good.<br/><br/>I just walked in off the street to see this place, and now I am pretty sure I will be a regular.<br/><br/>Yong Green Foods gets 5 stars from me, a hungry vegan trying to go raw.

Unassuming little restaurant. Korean sushi here is very tasty. Good range of vegetarian options.

Yong Green Food is another place I frequent with Simon. A cozy little vegetarian place with a generous selection of vegan, raw, organic and gluten-free options in the menu, it successfully caters to a niche market while also satisfying those like us whose

In both my experiences at Yong Green Food, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. It is run by some lovely Korean women, who are just so friendly and attentive. Food comes out incredibly quickly, my brother commenting it was almost like being in a fast food pl

Now I understand the need to turn tables over, and not keep people waiting, but unless you’re clearly advertising specific seating times, I think asking customers to leave once they’re finished is pretty bad form. It was a disappointing end to a somewhat disappointing meal, really. I probably won’t be back anytime soon.
The Burger Adventure
Two Korean sisters and their gaggle of charming staff serve up raw food, snacks, steaming bowls, almond milk smoothies, vegan cheesecake… and burgers.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
I'm not usually the biggest fan of vegetarian restaurants, often finding the food kind of bland and uninteresting. Even some of the bigger name places around Melbourne have left me disappointed and thinking there must be more to it than this. While not converted to a vegetarian lifestyle by Yong Green Food it's the first vegetarian restaurant that I've been to in ages which has left me wanting to go back to try more of the menu rather than just willing to return. irst of all, despite the rather nondescript exterior the interior is brightly coloured and interesting. A large dragon painted on one wall, floral decorations on another, a little dark but comfortable and cosy. Complement this with quiet but polite and friendly staff and first impressions are all positive. The menu is a mixture of raw and vegetarian dishes. For starters Snooze and I went for the raw nachos. I thought the chips were more like a seedy crisp bread than the normal crunchy corn chips, but I did enjoy the accompanyi
MEL: HOT OR NOT
Yong Green Food is one of the few restaurants in Melbourne which serve raw food but their menu does extend to vegan/vegetarian food if you’re in the mood for something warm. Our party of three decided to stick to the raw food options for the novelty factor.
