Review Noi Thai - Fitzroy

Linh Le
Extremely generous portions but not what we considered authentic Thai food. Every dish was on a too sweet side to us. But the Som Tum turned out to be the best.
Jay
The Thai food here is amazing and has a contemporary take on presentation which is appealing. Only downside is that your not allowed to split a bill.

Best Thai I've ever had. Satay skewers are incredible. Pork sausage, amazing. Curries and stir fries, magnificent. Gets busy on weekend nights, would recommend booking. Staff are awesome and happy to help, service overall is impeccable. Interior is delightful, well maintained. Stangely enough the bathroom is a great feature, worth checking out.

Great food, good service and cool space. The betel leaf starter was awesome and I'm laying in bed still thinking about the barramundi (pictured). Delicious! Singha beer on tap was fresh (ie clean beer lines). Good vegetarian and vegan options too. There was no issue with having our dog at an outside table. We will be back!
Melbourne Samurai
Amazing quality, loved the food everything was perfect.

The food is amazing, so delicious, very fresh and full of flavour. I also had the Iced Thai Lime tea and it was so good, I’ve never tasted anything like it before. The staff are also so lovely and very accommodating for diet requirements and plenty of vegan options!

We Just had a take away green chicken curry with coconut rice. It was Tasty, aromatic, veggies cooked perfectly. It was Awesome! We will be back 😁.
James Meyers
Delicious fresh Thai food. Generous servings, excellent and attentive service and quaint surroundings. Our vegan diner was very impressed with the menu options.
Lachlan Koren
This is the best Thai food north side of the city ....staff are amazing authentic and super friendly .....best to enjoy a spicy curry with plenty of beer ......always happy to recommend 10/10

Great variety of Thai dishes. Must try coconut prawn. Fresh flavorful stir fries

This place was amazing! All the food was delicious. The Pad Thai especially was great! If I’m ever in the area again, I will definitely be going back!
Kai Fuong
Pad Thai was very good, and so was the green curry (both options with chicken)! Great ambiente and overall top value for money - what else do you need?
Some Like It Hot
This is a very good Thai place. Best pad Thai and red curry I have had in a while and was very nicely spiced. Nice venue with good service. Good value for money. Would return when I’m Next in town.

Noi Thai restaurant in Fitzroy Smith street. Nice Thai restaurant with clean ambience and friendly staff with good service. I ordered the lunch menu kuay toew noodle soup. It was sweet and fresh plus their signature hot spicy cut chilli. It is a good match.

Had dinner at this place last night and it was delicious. Loved the red curry which had a spicy kick. Fish cake and coconut prawn entrees were spot on. Pad Thai was great. So can’t fault anything and will come back for sure.
JtotheG
Had a lovely meal of spicy noodles. I also tasted the green curry that my friend ordered which had a bit of a kick to it. Not somewhere I would be a regular at but a nice treat every once in a while.
Pad Thai Guy
We travelled 40 mins to come back to one of my favourite Thai restaurants. Very worth it. The Pad Thai is one of their signature dishes and is amazing. My dad had the larb salad and it was so flavoursome, fresh and zingy. Well seasoned and well portioned. Their Thai milk tea is really nice and the lime black tea are refreshing and I would have again. I forgot to take a photo of my dinner because it was so good I couldn't wait to taste it haha.

I rate this place between a 3.5 & 4. After discovering one of our favs had people queuing outside in the cold I hopped onto Zomato to find another Thai alternative close by. This is my first time here and my initial impression was “another Melbourne classic”. Small in stature, bustling with a loud and happy crowd!

Food is a solid 4, service 3.5-4, decor/ambience 3-3.5. I will revisit, thanks for accomodating us!

Readers please note that price list effective 5th of May on Zomato is incorrect, prices are higher, grrr!

Hungry after a few beers, friends recommended we pop around the corner to Noi. They’d eaten there a few times and had found it pretty reliable. I was skeptical as good casual Thai seems rare in Melbourne. But a few bites in I could thank the food gods they were right. Good pad thai (possibly a little too salty), green curry and spicy coconut beef. Drinks were also very reasonable - a quaffable glass of white at $7.50 and a giant cold beer only $12. They also have a sizeable vegan menu, but we shut our eyes and ignored that section. We’ll be back to try more.
Tigerland
What a beautiful little Thai restaurant. The service is great and the food is exquisite. We are still working our way through the menu but everything has been great so far.
Suf
The Good: Really Good authentic Thai food. They made the Tom yum into a main dish which was very well spiced. The service is really good and the atmosphere is ace.

The Bad: Sat upstairs next to the entrance to the kitchen. Not the nicest view but only a small issue.
K
Am a local thought would check this new place out ... with a few friends for group dinner - had a great time - atmosphere was great the staff were ever so friendly and accomodating - I had pad Thai and red duck curry -- bloody beautiful.
Been to a few Thai places - one of my favourite cuisines - noi Thai was fantastic - highly Recomended - amazing flavours if your after traditional Thai this is defiantly the place to go :)
Scott Beale
The food was very salty and the tom yum goon I rejected and told them that it was not good at all.

They still charged me for it even though I didn't eat it . Very disappointed with their attitude and they simply couldn't care, especially the young girl who served us. The restaurant was very poorly ventilated so we could not sit upstairs as the smell from the kitchen was very strong and smoky. Will not recommend and felt so strongly about the treatment I had I felt compelled to write this and is the first time for me. There are much better Thai places around than this.
Stephen Leigh
I live locally and get takeaways from here regularly. Every time we try a different dish and every dish so far has been fantastic, authentic thai food with amazing flavours at a good price. Noi Thai we love you!!!!

It is rare that the phone conversation when booking makes such a difference to your meal as a whole. Tonight, Catherine and I, were tossing up several options including hopping on the train to the city.

We ended up at Noi Thai, pleased to have an early dinner booking at late notice, and rapt with the BYO wine option that was explained to us on the phone. The care shown in that conversation translates into the friendly and adept service throughout the evening.

Noi Thai had been suggested to us by other locals several times. It has been around for many years and continues to have excellent support and patronage. The menu is definitely more traditional Thai, rather than the now popular (and expensive) modern slant.

Excellent meal was had. Curry puffs and the chive dumplings were tasty starters and the Pra Ram Long Song and massaman beef were delicious. Really recommend this place.
Bryan Daly
Great value Thai. The Massumam curry is one of the best in Melbourne (after a trial of several of the best).
Tasty, fast and reasonably priced. Takeaway available too.
Huss Sugar
Food is good but the waitress stuffed our order and we also had to wait an hour for our mains without an explanation.
Terrible service will never come here again.
Best thai food I've had in Melbourne, the flavours were spot on, super fresh and tasty. We had the chicken satay, fish cake, tom yum prawns, green curry beef, coconut rice, roti and chocolate brownie with thai icecream. Really enjoyable meal.
Good Food, Good Mood
Extremely happy with my recent experience at Noi Thai, BYO as well. Waitresses were attentive and food was deliciously fresh. We ordered a flavoursome Roast Duck Curry, Gai Pad Med Mamuang (stir-fry chicken), and 2 x coconut rice. Servings were perfectly portioned for two people.
Charlotte
This place was amazing. I was trying to figure out how to rate it, I can't fault it so it's a 5. Tom Yum, Red Curry, Pad Khing & Coconut Cups - all delicious. Also great service & BYO. Will definitely come back!
Chloep63
What a great find! Deliciously fresh Thai food. Highly recommend the green curry if you like the heat. Also the service was prompt and attentive. Thank you for a very enjoyable meal!

The Massaman is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only negative is that is extremely difficult to park your car. If you can use public transport then I recommend you do so. I took half a point off my review for this.
The service here was fantastic. Very friendly and more than helpful.
The food is up there with the best Thai I've ever eaten. The last time I went we had 12 guests so I tasted about 9 dishes plus various entrees, and they were all exceptional. Full of flavour. One of the dishes was too spicy hot but we were warned.
The roast duck curry and the chicken dish with chili and lemongrass were the best 2 dishes.
I 100% recommend this restaurant. Outstanding.

23-OCT-2015 : The last time I eat here was probably back in the late 2000s. Was glad to be back here for dinner with friends and was not disappointed. We had the chicken larb, roast duck curry and Pla Lad Prik fish. They were all delicious and we will will certainly be back for more soon.

Oh, what a blessing is Noi Thai! We've been coming here for years and it never ever disappoints! I've converted many friends to this hidden pearl cos she is easily one of the best Thai places in Melbourne. Great knowledge of what is gluten free and the Pad Thai is the best I've ever had! The guy who runs the place makes me laugh for some reason, and so does the fake fire on the tv in winter. I don't think you could ever beat Noi Thai, ever!
Thomas Anthony Wells-Quinn
BYO means this intimate joint with great food is one of the better options in Richmond. The food is as good or better than Botherambo and there is more variety in the flavours. Hipster presence is lower which you may or may not like. Friendly staff and efficient service. A local favourite.
Mooka Chook
Nice place with good service and good food. A reliable takeaway option or cosy, friendly, relaxed dine-in environment. Always busy which is a good sign.
Adrian 'El Tubbo' Koukoulas
Ate Noi Thai for the first time via take away with 6 guests and was faultless. Very rare to find a Thai place of this quality. Guests couldn't eat enough and were full of praise. A must.
Sarah Foers
This resturant has amazing service and delishes meals. They were very friendly and passionate about their food. I had a vegetarian curry which was yummy while my dad had the duck! We both couldn't rave about this place more! A must visit if in Richmond

Best Thai in Melbourne, hands down. Love this place! Has been my Thai takeaway place for 3 years. A little bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it. They use high quality meat and the flavours are spot on. Haven't had a bad dish yet!
Markus Giesen
Best take away Thai green curry!. Just got a red and a green curry for take away. Absolutely delicious! Plus the guy on the phone/at the register was super friendly.

Definitely recommend this place!
Melinda Jennings
The free water was cold........ That's about the only redeeming feature food/drink wise. Granted, the service was great, but polite waitstaff doesn't appease my palate.
Chrissy
Delish and never fails!. My fav Thai around! Have been many times with different friends and everyone's always loved it! Pegs prawns and Massaman curry amazing!!
FoodForThought
Best Thai in Melbourne. We travel from Armadale to Richmond for takeaway frequently as Noi Thai is better than any of our local Thai restaurants. The dishes are so flavoursome and full of fresh ingredients and plenty of vegetables.
Tetsu
Most tasty Best Thai restaurant in Melbourne.
Food is all rich of taste,I realized that is real Thai food only one bite.
Not too much table makes cozy atmosphere.
Michael Weuffen
Wow! My mouth is in heaven!!!! The duck curry was heaven!!! I'll be back
ZivaDappa
Had the $35 banquet with 4 friends and the food was amazing! I'm a massive fan of massaman curry and this was one of the best I've ever had. Green curry was delectable and would go back for the chicken and cashew number.
Only criticism would be the portion sizes were quite small and we were fighting over the food! Service was really good too!
SandraE
Best Thai in Richmond.

100% like noi Thai )))

Mixed bag. We went here mid week on obviously a quiet night. The three of us didn't see the renowned 'vibe' or real thai food that had been proclaimed by a couple of other reviewers. I am Thai, residing in Melbourne and the food was ok- nothing particularly special. We had Laksa Khao Soi- very unsatisfying coconut milk used obviously. Gai Pad Lemongrass was nice, Jungle Curry was not great. An ok restaurant- not remarkable

Noi Thai a Richmond Thai Restaurant. NOI THAI My choice when in busy Richmond
It was sort of spur of the moment when Oscar organised dinner with Mark at Noi Thai; one of Oscar’s favourite Richmond Thai Restaurants.
I had been there for dinner a couple of years back, when it was under previous management. These days the decor is much more ‘schlick’, a booking is essential and it is so renown you’ll often the who’s who of Richmond dining there.
We got a chance to talk to the owner, Peter, who pointed out the gems on the menu (practically the whole thing) and a little bit of back ground on how the place ran.
Food first....? Hmmm, nope. Socialise first; Which is how I like my meals.
Noi Thai’s kitchen has limited cold storage space which is an advantage in a restaurant like this. It means that food has to be freshly purchased daily from local markets and shops. The vibe was great in the restaurant as there were parties, big and small engorging themselves and knee deep in conversation.
For starters we had bit of everything; Curry puffs, Oscar’s favourite... Dumplings, One of my current fads... Spring rolls, Everyone’s favourite... Needless to say, we were ready for mains in no time.
For mains we shared the Roast Duck Curry . I love my duck and this was no exception; the duck was tasty like duck is, the curry was fantastic . We also got the Massaman Beef Curry which was Oscar’s favourite.
I’ll definitely be eating back there again soon, I think Thai is moving near the top of the list of my favourite food styles.
Tragic_old_trout
Goodness. I enjoyed the chive dumplings, the tom yum was not great, and our stir fry was too oily. found the thursday evening with friends not unpleasant but, having just moved back to the area, can't understand what the fuss is about- having lived and continuing to commute to bangkok for 12 years, i have a reasonable knowledge of thai food. but i have developed a healthy suspicion when reviewers refer to owners by name. basic thai food here- doesn't come within a bull's roar of papaya thai in cremorne, sydney or paladaar thai isaan here in melbourne. An average suburban thai- and i won't be swayed by people not finding my view helpful! There seem to be so many plain suspicious single reviews on this site- including for this restaurant. It is truly scary

This is a case where urbanspoon 'likes' can be deceptive. our biggest mistake (second time) at this place was to make a booking on a 'football' night, to be reminded (TWICE) that it was a football night by an unctuous gentleman. we were cattle prodded through the meal- 'i am assuming you will leave by 8pm' (caucasian co-owner). yes. believe me- we were. food was ok (not the best thai in richmond or the inner city by a bull's roar). partner ordered duck curry (nice), i ordered squid (average). entrees of roti with satay and chive dumplings. miserable looking waitstaff. give us bridge road thai eateries any day!
Ryanofinterest
Always Excellent. This is my favorite restaurant in Melbourne. I always start with some Roti Satay followed by the Gai See Sahai (Crispy Chicken with signature Satay Sauce).
I have to say, I am a bit of a Peanut Satay connoisseur and Noi Thai has the best you will find.
The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating (even when you forget to book...oops) and the restaurant is warm and inviting.
Courtney
Wow.. Delicious food, impeccable service. Couldn't have asked for better.

Service!. What a treat! We had a large (noisey) group of 10 Saturday night & this place was sensational! We all shared the Royal Banquet & it did not dispoint. Yummy spicy dishes followed by coconut ice cream. The service was second to none, we BYO beer & wine & the waitress made sure we always had a cold drink!
Nat
I've just moved to the area and have been on the hunt for a new local Thai place. Noi Thai didn't disappoint. I had the chicken cashew stir fry, which was delicious and with the most tender chicken I've ever had at a Thai restaurant. My date had the jungle curry, which had just the right amount of spice. The servings are on the slightly smaller size but I'll take quality over quantity any day. Great ambience in the restaurant (which was full but not noisy). I''ll be going back.
Cuddles
Hands down (still) the best Thai in Richmond. Had the full barramundi ... Bloody amazing
Foodhunter
Got pad Thai combination for dinner. very pricy for that small portion. but the service is good.
Lucy
Salty and unpleasant. Going back to shallots in Malvern. Unbeatable

Just celebrated the Thai New Year in Bangkok (Songrhan ) and arrived back in melbourne looking for a great food and thai style evening , once you been thailand you want thai food and did search for best thai food melbourne !! What a find Noi Thai is small but has everything good thai restaurant should have .
Top service and real thai food ! Will be back and cant wait to tell my friends ))
Emma
Great!. We've been there twice and both times the food has been fantastic! The service is also excellent. Will be having many more dinners at Noi Thai!!
Liza
Awesome again and again. On a footy night we tried and got in! What amazing service to get the last table. Nothing was too much trouble and our needs anticipated as our drinks ran out. I love the that the "simple" dishes just shine. The massaman beef is to die for. Do yourself a favour have dessert. Thanks Noi Thai for a great night.
I Just Enjoy Food
Lovely. Went to Noi Thai for my birthday dinner with 5 friends and had a lovely evening. The staff were courteous (even when we were the last in the restaurant and clearly holding them back from going home!), and the food was beautiful. From a set of fussy diners (can be a bit pretentious) there was nothing but praise. I just love good food and the meal was lovely in a relaxed environment. Good value too-we each had an entree and main and rice it only worked out to ~$35ea. When my friends asked for a match to light a candle for my birthday they surprised us by playing "Hapy Birthday to you on CD for the whole restaurant to sing along to.
My only complaint is the toilets, out the back past the kitchen and the carpark. But that's a first world problem isn't it?! They were very clean.
Remember to bring wine with you and book ahead if you have a group or you won't get a table, esp on Fri/Sat nights. Groups of 8+ get a surcharge (very annoying) and there's $4 corkage per bottle.
Rob Lee
Gob smacked! They were very.... Gob smacked!
They were very busy and attempted to order takeaway. Flat out told us to go elsewhere even though we were ok with 35 min wait. Was told by non Thai gentleman that "we only serve locals" noi Thai, bye bye
Bonnie K
Love this place; I am very fussy with my food &they always get it right. ever since I moved to a new office nearby; I've been coming here weekly ! Food is always full of flavour, cheap prices &friendly service !
Kristie Louise
The pad Thai was delicious! I asked for it with prawns only and they were very accommodating. Plus it's byo!
Maria Kopilas
Outstanding!. I am a huge fan of thai cuisine, and this restaurant is my absolute favourite.
Friendly service, warm atmosphere, and delicious food.
I will definitely be coming back for more :)
MissM
Awesome Thai. This place is great for both service and food. Even though we were late (half an hour due to stupid public transport!) they held our table and were super helpful about getting us organised so we could eat quickly and head off. All the staff were really friendly, and dealt well with the difficult customers at the table next to us. The food is delicious, authentic and comes very quickly.
Aussie Flyer
Great food and great service. The tom kha prawn soup and duck curry were the highlights. Ill.be back!
Sweetlikesugar
What's with the hype?. Thought we would try it out tonight for some takeway, being that it rated so well on here.
Ordered the Roti - Dry ,cold & rubbery. Panang Beef Curry - was NOT a curry at all, about 30gms of beef with maybe 3 tablespoons of sauce on it. Poor Form. Green Chicken Curry had a vile stench to it - like animal droppings.
I assume the other reviewers have not experienced either proper thai or a decent thai restaurant, as this place is well of the mark. Grabbed a menu intially when picked up the order - that has gone straight in the bin. Will def not be back!
Kelvin Au
Excellent service, wonderful dishes... Feels like home...
Delicious
BEST THAI EVER!!!!. I have been gong to Noi Thai for years and years and I have never found a thai resturant that beats it!
The food is amazing and the service sensational.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Pete and Team you are THE BEST!
Dale Adam
A winner. Now this is the real deal ... food is delicate, fragrant and aromatic with great attention to detail in the presentation. I have never had something I did not like here and recommend the chive dumpling entree especially. The restaurant is comfortable, the service unobtrusive and the prices reasonable, particularly in light of the quality. My only warning is that some dishes are rich ( creamy curries and the like) and need to be shared ... order with this in mind if dining alone. Overall, highly recommended. PS Also note: BYO only.
Marko
Recommend very highly. Both eat in and take away.
Mitch
Been several time warm friendly atmosphere, beautiful staff and fantastic food especially Baramundi with chilli sauce and Khao pad Noi thai. Cheers
Elyse Lithgow
Really nice dining experience. We started with the calamari which had a yummy salty batter (just what we wanted). My bf had the Penang curry which with just the right amount of spice and nuttiness. My red curry was just as good. Served with rich coconut rice and crispy chewy roti. Moreish! The ambience, service and food is a step up from a lot of Thai restaurant/take away joints and is worth the slightly higher price tag. Will be back :)
Liv
Fabulous food! The best Thai I have ever eaten- here or in Thailand! Such a gem, the food is fresh and tasty. Staff are friendly and attentive. Prices are so reasonable. We had the chive dumplings, satay, larb gai and beef massaman! Yummo!
Easternsuburbs_explorer
Good Thai, great service!. Awhile ago we were hanging out in Richmond and walked past this bustling little thai restaurant and decided we would have to try it out one day.

If I was a local in Richmond I would be stopping by on a regular basis; we had chive dumplings, roast duck curry and the pad prik squid.

The squid was slightly chewy and this was a very, very spicy dish. I have a high tolerance for spices so I was definitely surprised.

I wouldn't say Noi Thai is the best thai in Melbourne. My local take-away Zab Thai would be just as good, however Noi Thai is a nice place to dine if you live or are visiting the area. The service is friendly and top notch in my opinion!
Aaron Wallis
Great food, terrible staff. Great Thai food, no doubt about it. But the wait staff were terribly rude to me and my friends.

Could not believe it when they asked my overweight friend if he could move because he was blocking the way - totally inappropriate and just down right rude.
Hunterkiwi
The best Thai in Richmond. The food is wonderful and the service is welcoming and attentive. You won't be disappointed.
Kingy
Best Thai in.. No not Richmond, in Melbourne!!. This was the best Thai I have ever had in Melbourne! The flavour was outstanding. Every dish has been unique. The customer service is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. For a restaurant that is a little bit hidden off the side of Swan street it is a real find. Best Thai in Melbourne!
Eating_nomad
Orgasmic explosion of flavour.... Blown away by this quaint little place... amazing depth of flavour especially in the curries... so delish! Everything you order here is exceptionally good! Great kind service!
Cocosummer
Hot & Spicy. Best local Thai in Richmond and l like the use of quality ingredients -
Mick
Delicious food and excellent service. The Penang curry and the Satay stir fry were rich and flavoursome and a healthy serving which we could barely finish. I will definitely eat here again. Cosy if not slightly cramped dining area so may need to book ahead on a sat.
Oscar Calvo
From sweet to spicy to everything in between, Noi Thai Restaurant offers an abundance of true Thai tastes that will leave you smiling and content. The Peg Prawns and Dumplings are absolutely divine and my favourite dish is the Massaman Beef Curry. That really gets me going! Noi Thai has a great variety of selections, excellent customer service and a wonderful ambience. I will definitely go again to try something new.
Robert
Recommend. Highly recommend the Roast Duck Curry. We will be back as we only had time to enjoy one course before a concert at Rod Laver.
Gumby
Great reliable local. Adore the coconut and kaffir lime leaf rice. Could eat that rice alone and be very content. Matched the rice with any if the awesome curries and dig in...
Paul
Decided to try takeaway but very disapointed. The pad thai was so salty. I am a fan of salt but this was shocking. The coconut rice was very dry and the crispy chicken in peanut sauce was very average I'm afraid. All up, sorry guys but not worth the money!
Richmondgal
Love love loe Noi Thai, very friendly service, really authentic Thai food, very different from the usual Thai restaurants you might be used to. The curry that comes in the coconut is amazing, the beef masaman a must, and the special dumplings that arent even on the menu are fab starter. Great for a birthday, let them know and you'll prob get a little surprise at the end. you need to book esp on weekends.
Eatup
Fabulous Thai food. This is a little gem of a place. The food is truly fabulous, fiercely tasty. The space is small a cosy. I love the TV fireplace during winter which turns into an aquarium in the warmer months. The service is attentive without being fussy. One of my favourite Thai places for sure.
Wells
The best Thai food I have had! It has great curry and other good food on the menu. It has a nice atmosphere there and is warm on cold nights.
