Review Mukka - Fitzroy

Farhana Munatic
Simple, wholesome Indian food done really well and even better service. We got the feed me banquet option and by the end couldn’t move! So delicious and filling. The staff are incredibly warm and attentive, made sure our group was well looked after. We mostly chose North Indian curries but can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. The bhelpuri and street snacks packed a punch - just like the restaurant name suggests! Yum cocktails too. Loved the chaitini and Indian summer. Also - one of the most aesthetically gorgeous Indian restaurants I have seen in Melbourne. Mukka 2.0 at st kilda is funky, warm, and chill vibes that made us stay well beyond the closing time and the staff were only too lovely to accommodate it!

Great service and Indian cuisine from friendly owner Singh, very tasty spicy and flavorsome curries. Definitely one of the better Indian restaurants in Melbourne, quality of food and portions are good. Lamb korma was good with meat very tender. Pumpkin curry is highlight of the meal, with tosai and prata bread deliciously made.

It was our first visit and I swear it’s the best experience we as a group of 7 friends had. Shaurya and Angelina served us very well and the quality of food and hospitality is at the top!! Vibes are great and food is the best!! Shaurya we will return with a bigger group guys! Three cheers to you both and the guys in the kitchen who made best masala tea.

Just Wow! They serve the best vegetarian Biryani in Melbourne! I’ve tried several restaurants in the city and trust me the taste of this biryani is unforgettable.. i had it yesterday and I’m gonna have it today too! Not to mention the Indian Summer Jug!!😍😍

Authentic desi food only @mukka.fitzroy From Indian street food delicacies to everyday Indian curries to royal Indian food, you will find so many myriad slices and flavours of India @mukka.fitzroy What we had: Pani puri, a favourite street food in India, just pour tamarind, mint and spicy water into the fried puri that is filled with potatoes and chickpeas. The trick is to put the entire thing in your mouth at one go and devour the burst of flavours in your mouth. Strongly recommended. Paneer Tikka, cottage cheese grilled with so many flavours and capsicums. So soft and absolutely mouthwatering. Must try. Butter Chicken, a classic dish nailed with perfection, soft, tender juicy chicken in a creamy, rich and tasty gravy. Such a fantastic Indian curry. Goan Fish curry, mildly spicy but the rich authentic flavours of the coast of Goa have been captured so perfectly through this curry. Simply mouth melting. Cheese naan, crispy, soft and cheesy Indian bread, that goes perfectly with the curries. Pea pulao, a light, hearty and delectable rice with peas, onions and cumin. So delish. Rose and Cinnamon lassi, a sweet, charming rose flavoured lassi which is truly delicious and very refreshing. Masala Chai, relaxing to drink even on hot summer afternoons. Mango Falooda Kulfi, another favourite Indian dessert, which is a summer staple on the streets of India, absolutely refreshing and rich with pistachios and mangoes. Truly addictive in taste. Besides the irresistible food, you will find the decor as loud, vibrant, traditional and yet desi to its very core. Perfect for a gram-worthy shot. The aroma of the burning incense sticks will give you a warm feeling the moment you step in. The service is amazing and the team of owner and staff are such nice, kind and helpful folks. The prices are reasonable. So why not make a reservation today @mukka.fitzroy to explore the rich taste, flavours and warmth of awesome Indian food.

Really feel like doing an Indian feast as soon as the lockdown ends, and I think its gonna take me back to my recent find! Indian cuisine is all about the flavors, spices and aromas that capture my country’s true taste. So, Indian food lovers, if you’re looking for the best mouth-watering dishes, you’ve come to the right place. Located on the busy streets of Fitzroy, An eye-catching painting near the front door is meant to make @mukka.fitzroy more visible to the busy nearby intersection. This pretty Indian restaurant has their focus on different parts of the Indian nation, allowing guests to explore many different options beyond matter paneer and tandoori chicken. Emulating Indian village-style dining with food served in steel utensils. From the fluffiness of the flatbreads to the fragrance of their Biryani , is one of the rare restaurants in Melbourne that make you forget you’re out dining, and instead makes you feel like you’re eating from a home kitchen. it’s hard to find Onion Bhajji of the perfect texture and consistency, but they seems to have nailed it. We also enjoyed their Gobi 65 and Oh my god, what flavoursss!! Whether you’re looking for creamy butter chicken or vegetarian Malaii Kofta, you’ll definitely love checking out this amazing place. Their Dal Makhni is to die to for and A buttery garlic naan dipped in it will take you to another world. For the drinks, Mukka and the team behind their Bar, are infusing Indian ingredients into classic cocktails. A whiskey sour takes on royal spice flavours with the infusion of cardamon and clove. A LIIT with old-fashioned Indian Rum infused with ginger Syrup and hinder beer. And the refreshing Mango Lassi is tue Indian goddess of coolers! (Food and cocktails will also be available for takeout and delivery.)

Excellent service, food was amazing. Chicken biriyani is must try, very authentic 👌. Very expensive

Creative food and mixing tradition with modern flair. Mukka has an amazing atmosphere, with a great fit out matched by really good service. One of the nice modern Indian restaurants in Melbourne. Would like more fusion desserts.

Lovely restaurant Yummy food and the staff were really lovely will totally recommend to people looking for great Indian food

Beautiful Indian food!! We live in cairns but are English and we've been chasing Indian food there and it's terrible! Made my night finding this place!! Tikka masala is the best I've ever had!!
Jasmin Nawar
MUKKA is Soul food served on a simple steel thali. What a welcoming colourful and friendly restaurant, Mukka has set a place in my heart and for everyone looking for delicious Indian cuisine in Melbourne, this is it! We had the flavourful Chicken tikka and fresh naan and a kickstarter of Gobi 65. Definitely going back again and again.
Tracey Polglaze
Fantastic food in a gorgeous setting with friendly helpful staff. I loved this place, and their food is up there with the best Indian food I've ever tasted (Indian is my favourite food). Highly recommended.
Aoife Dunne
Below average food, rude staff with awful customer service skills. There was a hair in my food which therefore made it inedible. Wouldn't recommend this place at all
Fiona Novak
Loved my Vegetarian Thali! Mukka is a small and crowded place, you will need some patience getting a table, otherwise, if you are not overly fussy, the bench bar seats or outdoor seating is generally available. In spite of the place being so busy, the food was delicious and the service was friendly with a smile. Highly recommended.
Thomas Ritsios
Very nice atmosphere, excellent service and the food was delicious. We had the goat curry and the butter chicken.
Pri Kumar
I absolutely loved the food and service here! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, it's my new fave Indian restaurant and it's very affordable! 10/10 highly impressed.
JoJo Fox
Food was so good! Best butter chicken we've had in Melbourne! Dosa was amazing too! Great quirky restaurant, highly recommend it!!
Krystle Prenter
Banana Leaf Fish Fry was awesome! Great cocktails with a twist, also very friendly and welcoming staff.
Gordon McQuilten
Beautifully balanced. Great skills on whomever they have in the kitchen. Defiantly going back next chance I get. Goat was the best I've ever had.
Matt Willicombe
Fantastic butter chicken, fantastic lamb saag, fantastic garlic naan, everything is so delicious!
Victoria Fox
Ordered via Uber eats. Happy food! Highly recommended for take away. The cauliflower was awesome and the lamb saag was dreamy. Spicy, so order some raita! Big love to the kitchen xx
Simran Gill Bathh
Definitely a waste of time, we went there n couldnt find a place to sit n food taste below average A big no forever
Brooke Marshall
Best butter chicken I've ever had! So creamy! Would highly recommend.
Subrahmanya Swamy
Good food. But Ala Carte price for few items like Buryani is little high for the qty served. And menu says raitha is 1$ but they billed as 6$; unacceptable answer when we questioned.
Radhika Mhatre
Great quality food but lil uncomfortable sitting!!! We ordered chicken tikka starter, slow cooked lamb curry, roti and naan. All dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. Roti and Naan were bigger than usual and super soft. I liked it. The only thing that pulled me back from giving 5 star is the sitting arrangements. The tables were too close and it was awkward to disturb people sitting next to us, even the staff was unable to serve on the table. Your food is awesome, will visit again to try new dishes but please consider rearranging the sitting. Cheers!
Perry
Best vegan curries I have ever had in Melbourne! Been here two times :) really lovely places. Friendly staff!!! <br/><br/>The price for each dish is valuable. Authentic food. Would come back again!
Robert Jane
The momo skins were OK, but the filling was unpleasant, as was the mouth feel. The eggplant and potato curry was small for a main course. The potatoes were uneaven in size and there were 3 large strips of eggplant. No care had been taken in the preparation. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but sadly this is not the case.
Swan Li
Absolutely delicious, naan is crispy and has plenty of garlic. Butter chicken and goat curry are both fantastic.
Kim
The chicken tikka masala and lamb biryani were extremely tasty, full of flavour and left me wanting more. Pair these dishes with the cheese naan and you’ve got yourself a perfect course for a good hearty meal. Staff were really friendly and provided great service, also.

Came here to celebrate my partner’s birthday and I will say this spot was just perfect! Authentic Indian feed with very generous portions at a really great price. To start, we ordered the onion bhaji and had a cocktail jug to share. Next, we had the mains. The goat curry was so well done that the meat just melted in my mouth 😋 the fish curry was my favourite and definitely a great contrast to the goat curry. we were so stuffed after the meal and I think we will be back when my partner starts craving Indian again. overall, 9.5/10 esp considering we had all of that for less than $100
Mills
One thing about the food in this place is the aroma. We brought leftovers home and warmed it up and our apartment smelt like an authentic Indian home for the next 2 days! 😛<br/>Best thing on the menu is the HUGE naan bread . Big and delicious soft naan not made like all the other restaurants I’ve been to in Melbourne but more authentic style. <br/>The dhal however wasn’t to my liking but that’s also probably due to preferring Sri Lankan style dhal. The chicken tikka was delicious and the biriyani rice was cooked very well. <br/>Service was good however I would say the prices were slightly on the pricey side here so don’t expect a cheap Indian feed.
Siddharth Haran
I had the pav bhaji, the dal makhani and naan. Pav bhaji is good the rest not so much. The naan is so thick, it makes you feel heavy after eating and it has a sweet aftertaste which messes with the taste of the curry. The dal makhani lacked flavour and I regretted ordering it.
Loulou
Such a nice place in the heart of Fitzroy to try out new Indian dishes or indulge in the most well known. We were a group of 6 during the week, service was really nice and the food came fast, and most important it was really delicious. Would definetely order the Naan and try out the starters, very interesting and delish!
Wildviolet
The bhel puri fell flat and lacked any of the usual tangy flavours or crunch. Some of the ingredients also tasted stale and old. The tamarind water for the pain puri was very underwhelming and lacked spice and sourness. <br/><br/>On to the positives, the garlic naan is easily the best I’ve had and the goat curry was very tender. I wouldn’t come back simply because of how disappointing the street eats were.
Nick
Great South Indian food. If you're keen on trying more localised Indian food and not the usual Nth Indian stuff, this place is ideal. Food quality was spot on. We had a Thali which included 4 different dishes, roti and rice as well as Pav Bahji which was sensational. Plenty of vego options. No Lamb Kormas to be seen. Shop front looks dodgy but decor and food are really good. My Sth Indian partner rates it big time. Will definetly be back.
Stu Mannion
The best Indian in the area by far. If you like authentic, quality food. Good vegetarian options. Food is much better than Curry Smuggler, Horn please or Curry Cafe.  Staff are friendly and the restaurant has a good vibe.
Thats My Food
I got to go to a get together at Mukka restaurant situated on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. The first thing that struck me when I entered the place was their interior. There were beautiful paintings on the walls, flowers hanging on the walls and small elements that represented the culture of Indian food. I was really impressed with the interior of this place.
Cookielessvee
Listen to the spothing music whilst the orange garland flowers sway in the wind.<br/><br/>Bhel puri- the crisp puffed rice is filled with pomegranate, tomato, onion and filled with<br/>lime,tamarind and bombay mix. A refreshing yet semi spicy entree.<br/><br/>Pav bhaji - mashed veggies with buttered pau buns. The veggies are slightly spicy and the bread was slightly tough. Paired with the refreshing cucumbers and tomatoes, all combined made the perfect sandwich.<br/><br/>Dal makhani - this dish is an alternative to the butter chicken and is filled with lentils, daal and red kidney beans. the makhani is so flavourful and fill of flavours.<br/><br/>Garlic naan - soft, lighlty and fluffy but on the sweeter side. A large slice is served and the topping of the crushed garlic and butter were perfect.<br/>

You’ll find Mukka on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy and it is everything you could want from an Indian restaurant and more. Not only do they serve beautiful Indian food, they host events including ‘Go mad with Mukka’ – a colour party held in a Coburg warehouse, or Kite Flying with thali and chai at Edinburgh Gardens. Talk about offering more than just a meal, they’re passionate about sharing true Indian culture.  If a trip to India is not around the corner, a trip to Fitzroy can be.
Clémence Yep
Such a cute little place in the heart of Fitzroy!<br/>Had the chicken tikka masala, absolutely delicious... Perfecly balanced and flavourful, just mouthwatering.<br/>My boyfriend had the goat curry: fragrant, the meat juicy and tender falling of the bone. What else.<br/>Will go back there, 100%.
John M
Great menu, with a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. Particularly good if you're in a decent sized group, so it means that everyone gets to eat a decent meal rather than some substitute.
Grace Giuliano Mottram
Excellent Indian food that also caters to allergies such as gluten free. The eggplant dosa was excellent. Recommended.

Came for Dinner with my friends and We loved it, the original lassi was amazing, felt like I’m back home. The food was well prepared and all dishes had an awesome taste. It’s a bit expensive ($$$) but would recommend everyone to have lunch/dinner over here whenever you feel to eat Indian.<br/>Plus, the service was awesome friendly staff, thumbs up for staying open till we left.
Food Comatose
Fantastic service and beautiful food, with generous servings and quality ingredients. This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Melbourne.

4.5 When Fitzroy meets Indian cuisine, you get Mukka! Cosy and funky, they've got a flavourful range of traditional Indian dishes. Our top picks included...
AnotherAsianAbroad
Great value for money. Food is tasty and served quickly. Good and friendly service <br/><br/>Would definitely come more if I lived close by the area .<br/><br/>Worth visiting.

Had a really lovely experience. Staff were friendly and offered suggestions for food choices.<br/>Food was pretty authentic, and had a slight heat that kept things interesting.<br/>Will definitely be coming back for more!
Meg Gro
Amazing Indian cuisine in a funky setting. The thali option is a great way to try an array of different dishes at a great price! Mukka has one of the best butter chickens I’ve ever tasted! Lovely staff!
Hungry For Chips
It's raining, it's freezing - only some hot curries can fill that summer void. You get hit with that spice smell as soon as you enter the door. So beware of what you will wear. :) <br/><br/>We managed to try most things in the menu; a selection of drinks, entree, main and dessert. The service was slow but friendly. <br/>Highlights: Gobi - crunchy and flavoursome. Goat curry was really good, even liked by the 'non-goat-eating' people. The naans! 🤤 We tried 1 of each type, and all were served piping hot and so good. Lowlights: the curry for string hoppers was a bit bland. The space was a little bit too tight but the restaurant was small.  P.S. Make sure you eat the gulab jamun slowly or else you will burn yourself :)

Authentic Indian delicacies with great customer service and good ambiance. I would recommend getting small portions of a high variety. The Mango lasi is average to say the least
Divya Subramanian
I had high hopes for this place after looking at the ratings. We ordered string Hoppers and momos for starters which were great. The lassi was refreshing with a hint of spices. Was looking forward for my mains but after a 30 min wait the lady said there was no order placed for mains at all. Very disappointing. Was not even super crowded to forget an order. Such a nice place but don't think will be coming here again after this experience.<br/>
Little Picky Very Hungry
Tried out a new Indian restaurant last week, have heard good things so we were pretty excited!! Loved the decor and the ambience, was distinct from other Indian places🌼.<br/>.<br/>We started with PANEER TIKKA ($15) 🧀 it was so good, cottage cheese was well marinated and almost melt in my mouth texture. BUTTER CHICKEN ($19) is a must, it was creamy and addictive. SLOW COOKED GOAT CURRY ($20) was lovely with big chunks of meat. They were all good but not the best I’ve had (Aangan in Footscray still have the best curry in my opinion) some more spices would be excellent. Hold on! ✋🏼 Their GARLIC NAAN ($4.5) was one of the best I’ve had, it was large and a rich flavor of garlic butter 😛💦💦. The portion of BASMATI RICE ($4) was fair.<br/>.<br/>When it comes to drinks, ICED CHAI without rum ($6) was perfect. However, the MANGO LASSI ($6.5) 😖🥭 was bland, almost tasteless. The opposite of thick and sweet, not a good lassi should be. Overall this place offers friendly service, lively atmosphere and decent indian food. Is Mukka within my top 3 Indian restaurant in Melb? I would have to say NO.
Berozgaar_engineer
It is one of the best Indian restaurant in Fitzroy area.<br/>The starters are nice.<br/>They add cucumber in Bhel and the Naans (breads) are very large.<br/>One star down as the Lassi was very pathetic - it just had water, no flavour, no taste of yogurt.
Ben Charnley
The night we dined at Mukka was a public holiday and the restaurant was packed out.<br/><br/>We ordered the classic and chicken curry dosas. The food was amazing, probably the best Indian meal I've had for some years. We'll definitely be back for the dosas!
Makan2Melbourne
A pretty little Indian restaurant located in Fitzroy. The restaurant itself was quaint, and the pretty decor seemed very fitting. Ordered their classic dosa, which was a savoury pancake with fillings and dipping sauce. The pancake itself was pretty good, but the filling was a bit overwhelming and too heavy to start off with. The three dipping sauce added a nice flavour, my favourite was the combination of the left and middle one. Then, there was the banana leaf fish fry, which was flavourful, but the idli wasn’t my cup of tea. It was bland and the texture was weird. I didn’t expect a good fish dish at an Indian restaurant, it seemed to be more fitting at a Thai restaurant. We had to wait for a while for our rice and garlic naan, because the mains would be overwhelming without. The goat curry was tasty, the meat was tender, it fell of the bone easily, and there wasn’t any unpleasant smell. My favourite part was eating the fluffy, soft garlic naan dipped in curry. Overall, it was an unexpectedly pleasant experience, since I wasn’t too familiar with Indian cuisine. Would like to try more.
Whalesfoodadventure
One of my favourite indian restaurants. Got the lamb and eggplant curry. Massive portion of naan bread. Mango lassi wasnt my favourite as a bit bitter. Curries were both extremely tasty
Megha Agarwal
Tasty, high quality food, combined with good ambience and good staff. They tweak the traditional dishes with the taste and style and this improves the experience overall. We loved the mango and rose-cinnamon lassis specifically.

Real rating 4.4 ⭐️ <br/><br/>There are times where we crave for Indian food and having this in Mukka was quite the experience!<br/><br/>We started of with some appetizers which were pretty interesting! They had served us tandoori mushrooms, chicken tikka and others! The tandoori mushroom was such an interesting combination and actually worked for me as I love mushrooms!<br/><br/>Mukka specializes in many different curries - butter chicken, lamb curry, goat curry, chicken tikka masala, chickpea and spinach! My favorite was the goat curry (I rarely eat this) but thoroughly enjoyed it! The meat was so soft and tender and you could taste how juicy it was! The spiciness level was just right for me (coming from Malaysia - spicy is what we do)! I also enjoyed the lamb curry and butter chicken which were my 2nd favorite! Both were rich and meats were cooked to perfection! These curries were so good to eat with the briyani and nans!<br/><br/>Not to forget we ended with dessert - we were served Indian donuts and kalfi! Both desserts were enjoyable and not overly sweet!<br/><br/>Thank you Mukka for such a wonderful experience! We will visit again to satisfy our curry cravings!
Leila
3.5<br/><br/>Ambience was killer, but when it came to the food I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. We got the spicy lamb chops and chicken tikka masala. Lamb chops were amazingly good, the spices were right on the mark, but it hardly made a dent in my stomach. Chicken was great too, but rice had to be ordered separately. I would’ve thought at least a small side would be included in the curries.

'Mukka Restaurant' you have me MIND BLOWN! This is by far the best Indian Restaurant in Melbourne as well as now my Favourite restaurant in Melbourne. Everything about this place is perfection. From the moment you walk in its great vibes. Beautiful setting and Indian elements. The manager here MANU was amazing he was so attentive, genuine and knowledgeable (given his also a chef there). The menu was so good felt like ordering one of everything. The cocktails were smart with an indian twist. The food was well presented and tasted smack bang with a flavour explosion. Thanks Mukka for a life changing experience can't wait to be back.

Mukka in Fitzroy has definitely dished up one of the most impressive Indian we’ve had in Melbourne to date.<br/>Despite its locale, the modern, impeccable presentation of each dish did not sacrifice on authenticity. The rarely-seen Southern Indian dishes were simply delectable and offered up some of the most appetising flavours and sensations, all cooked to perfection at your desired level of spice.
The High Tea Girl
My oh my! You haven’t had Indian until you’ve tried Mukka Indian! <br/>Love the decor, staff are super friendly and the cocktails are a treat! <br/>The food is so extremely well presented! I’m not sure I’ve ever had such a tasty rice before.<br/>If you want to impress your friends and family with a superb Indian restaurant- Mukka Indian restaurant is your place 😊💗
Kheng OMNOM
First time here and we were greeted with a friendly welcome. The food was absolutely amazing from the entrees to mains and desserts. I love how authentic the food is here and honestly can say, it is probably my favourite Indian restaurant in Melbourne. The service was incredible as well as the staff! I love the butter chicken, fresh garlic naan and the signature fried cauliflower bites. Highly recommend this place to all my friends and family when they crave for some delicious Indian food. Thanks for having us x
Chronicles Of Nardia
Mukka is located on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. I love Indian food so was excited to attend a blogger night & try it out. I really loved the interior, some funky wall art & lots of colour, a cheerful & festive atmosphere. <br/><br/>We started with chicken tikka, tandoori mushrooms & gobhi 65 along with plenty of papadums served with mint & tamarind chutney. The chicken tikka had that strong char taste I love & was still tender inside. The tandoori mushrooms packed a big kick of heat, the raita provided an important cooling element. The gobhi (cauliflower) was excellent, one of my favourite dishes & I loved the flavour. <br/><br/>For mains we tried the butter chicken, goat curry, palak paneer with garlic naan & biryani. Dipping garlic naan intro creamy butter chicken is one of life’s great pleasures & we all loved this. All mains were delicious & executed well. <br/><br/>We finished with gulab jamun, deep fried milk donut like balls in a spiced syrup, super sweet & very addictive. The Bombay falooda kulfi was the perfect icy dessert to finish a big meal & a textural delight. We also sampled a range of cocktails & mocktails & I couldn’t resist my favourite mango lassi. <br/><br/>The staff at Mukka were so friendly & efficient and did an incredible job feeding our huge table of hungry bloggers. The food was impressive & I loved the interior & atmosphere. Thanks so much for having us.
Vivian
Mukka has always been a favourite of mine so I was excited to attend a blogger night that showcased some of their best dishes <br/><br/>We started with Ghobi ( cauliflower ) this was coated in an amazing spice blend, so flavourful. The chicken tikka was another dish that I love at Mukka, it has a great char flavour whilst still maintaining its moisture inside- a really well executed dish. <br/><br/>The tandoori mushroom which is something I have not tried before was probably my favourite! This was just the right amount of spice for me however I did see around the table that many others found this quite spicy ! <br/><br/>The butter chicken here was one of the better ones I have tried- I did find it a little too creamy but the sauce and the chicken inside was still delicious regardless and very addicting<br/><br/>The palak paneer is a dish that I love so much due to my love of cheese, the spinach and cheese combo is a no brainer in any cuisine and the one here is done very well. The cheese is bitey and holds its shape whilst the spinach curry has just enough spice to amplify the flavours but not mask the spinach taste <br/><br/>The last curry was the Slow cooked goat curry, the meat was extremely tender and the flavours was like a smack in your mouth ( in a good way) – loved this one probably the most ! <br/><br/>All of these delicious curries was served with biryani, rice , naan and garlic naan. The garlic naan was fluffy and had a lot of garlic on top – so good ! <br/><br/>By the time desserts came , I had to give it a pass. <br/><br/>Thanks for having me Mukka!
Melbournejade
Mukka is legit Indian food goals. I didn't have one bad dish and the cocktails were that good I went H.A.M on them. Entree must have was the spiced fried cauliflower (Gobhi 65) & the tandoori mushrooms. I literally couldn't go past the butter chicken for main but special mention to the slow cooked goat curry which fell off the bone and into my mouth. <br/><br/>Thoroughly enjoyed and will be back to face plant into the garlic naan.
Harmony
After dining at Mukka, I can definitely say that it is my new favourite Indian restaurant as of today. The service here are exceptional as well as the food.<br/>For entrees, we got gobi 65 (quick-fried cauliflower), tandoori mushroom and chicken tikka (my favourite). For mains, we got plain & garlic naan (best eaten hot), biryani, butter chicken (my personal favourite), palak paneer (spinach curry), slow cooked goat curry (melts in mouth). And for desserts, we got bombay falooda kulfi and gulab jamun (indian donut). That gulab jamun were so good and yummy, it’s a must get dessert dish. The non-alcoholic drinks were so nice and refreshing too, Iced Chai and Rose & Cinnamon Cooler. <br/>Overall, a great dinner experience, it’s like teleporting myself back in the street of India as you can really taste the homemade with love. Highly recommended!<br/>

Mukka has been an Indian institution in Fitzroy for a while now, and I can understand why with the incredible spread they served up! From their Indian inspired cocktails to their out-of-this-world butter chicken this place is redefining the quality of amazing Indian food in Melbourne! <br/>They have a reasonably priced feed me option, so if you’re stuck on which delicious dish to try, you can try a little bit of everything - I know I did!
Miagoreng.com
Loved this Thaba style eatery! The food was delicious and hearty...my favourite is the butter chicken is not too sweet but so delicious, paired with garlic naan and I’m in heaven. The cocktails all have authentic ingredients and an Indian twist on it such as chai, rose. It’s a cute space and the service is on point!
Flavietta
Something has gone wrong at Mukka- still good and friendly service but the food is very ordinary.<br/>The onion bhaji were various sizes and very dry, the two vegan curries were also very dry and tasteless. Samosas were good but not good enough to salvage the dinner.<br/>Sorry can’t recommend.

What a great little Indian restaurant with a cool vibe and an interior that takes you half a world away from its Brunswick Street locale. Mukka has built quite a fan base in its three years of operations and the crowds were evidence of this when we turned up to try out the menu in a balmy Monday night. <br/><br/>We started our dining with a couple of refreshing beverages. Kellie chose the Rose and Cinnamon cooler, made with almond milk, and she enjoyed this sweet drink which had a delightful rose fragrance. I chose a Mango lassi and opted for the grown up version of having it served with a coconut rum. These bright drinks were a perfect accompaniment to the heat of the food and the coconut rum in the Mango Lassi was just perfect<br/><br/>For starters we had the Gobi 65, these crunchy florets were brightly red coloured and very moorish. The sweet cauliflower flavour shined through and each bite finishes with an awesome spiced crunch. For something different we opted for the Tibetan Momos (Dumplings) filled with finely cut cabbage and potato served with chutney. We should have eaten these straight away and starved the camera a little as they cooled down quickly. <br/><br/>Our other starter was the Tandoori Mushroom skewers. Drizzled with fresh lemon these succulent babies packed a little heat, they were very easy to eat and accompanied by coriander chutney. I don’t normally choose mushrooms but I’m glad Kellie insisted... yum. <br/><br/>For main we went with the Chicken tikka Marsala (the menu mentions its “butter chickens” spicier big brother). The chicken was tender and succulent with a real spicy heat for our palates, the intense rich sauce delivered on flavor and we scooped it up with the light and flakey naan bread and didn’t stop until we thought we just couldn’t possibly fit anymore in. <br/><br/>We were wrong, we had an eating break then decided to squeeze in a dessert, the Gulab Jamun. These Indian donuts were served piping hot in a wonderful sweet syrup with a touch of cardamom and rose.  The donuts were like a dense sponge and soaked up the glorious juices and took on a old fashioned pudding texture but with more bite. <br/><br/>Thanks so much for inviting us in to dine. We would come back in a second.
Agreekable
We were excited to visit this great restaurant which has rave reviews! We were invited by the owner for the Birthday celebration which had a set menu. When we got there, it was a little unorganised. They didn’t realise we had been booked so they sat us at the table and left us sitting there for 20 minutes (there was one other table eating). Eventually I got up and asked them if I ordered up here and they let me know they were waiting on the manager to tell them how to serve us (we had been invited to visit through IG). Eventually about 30-40 mins later we got our first course of pani puri, another dish (escaped my mind) which were pleasant. I enjoyed my lychee spritz! We had the keema pav (popular Indian street food) and Aloo Tiki. Very nice, but nothing special. Meen Moli was the standout dish! This was very yummy and filling! Dessert was a semolina cake. Overall, the menu wasn’t amazing but it was a nice experience. I’d like to go back and try their normal menu as I’ve heard this is really delicious! So I would recommend people try this venue.

Went to Mukka last night. Ordered butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, 1 serving of roti bread and rice. It was definitely plenty for 2! Service was great and food came pretty quickly. Though the selection of dishes on the menu was a little limited
Ahalya Maharaj
Hands down the best Indian food in Melbourne! Authentic, charming and delicious. From the rustic decor, yummy cocktails and of course the amazing menu - a visit to Mukka is a must.
JP
Favorite Indian restaurant! This place made me literally fall in love with Indian food, would highly recommend this place for any first timers too
Frenchie
Very honest and authentic - featuring northern street food and southern Indian cuisine. We had the birthday feed me menu and they have vegetarian alternatives for all dishes we ordered. Service was good too - highly recommend it.

Always love returning here. They have some of the best Indian food on offer in Melbourne, and definitely the best garlic naan...do not miss out on the garlic naan; it is the best you’ll have. <br/>Get a couple of starters, including the bhel puri, include the chicken tikka and bharta in your mains...and go for broke; you won’t regret it.
Mic.tom
We had a party of 7 and there were no complaints: friendly service, food was great (we loved the chicken tikka, gobi 65, onion bhaji and the pillowy naan) with plenty of options for our vegan friend, and all at a very reasonable price point.  Can't ask for more!
Pramitha Ranshika
Friendly staff, centrally located Indian food joint.<br/>Although I must say the place doesn’t look tidy (tables were very adhesive which I presume from leftover curries and had a weird smell)<br/>More disappointingly, the food wasn’t up to the expectation, bhel pury as well as the channa masala were extremely dry, although the portion sizes were really good, but we didn’t finish those as the taste wasn’t there.<br/>Finally the kulfi falooda we had wasn’t a falooda but just some kulfi...
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:<br/>+ Bhel Puri<br/>+ Garlic Naan<br/>+ Chicken Tikka<br/>+ Tandoori Mushroom<br/>+ Slow Cooked Goat Curry<br/><br/>I really love the Indian street food that this place serves. The Bhel Puri was the perfect entree; light, sour, fresh, crunchy and tangy. Great to get the juices going in the mouth. The chicken tikka was perfectly cooked, succulent and the flavours bright. And the tandoori mushroom was spicy, a flavour explosion with a hint of sour that is lovely. The slow cooked goat curry was super tender and falls off the bone, and the garlic naan a perfect vehicle to soak in the curry. The chicken biryani had a generous portions of chicken in it, and the rice super fragrant. Everything was served temperature hot, and flavours all dance on the tongue. I thought the desserts (kulfi and gulab jamun) were a bit too sweet - I personally prefer my desserts lighter on sugar - but that is just me. Service was friendly and efficient. This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Melbourne for sure and we will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed dining at Mukka. The service was lovely with the staff being so friendly and accommodation. The flavours of the curry are amazing and full of flavour.<br/>I think this might be my new favourite Indian restaurant! The only negative, was they forgot one of my meals which was the lamb grill.

I wanted to write a review of this place as soon as I finished dining. A small restaurant with vibrant atmosphere and very friendly staff. We were a group of 5 and hence we had the chance to order a good mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.<br/>We ordered chicken tikka, Gobi 65 , pav bhaji and paneer tikka for starters. Everything was delicious. Special mention to chicken tikka as it was so moist and flavourful.<br/>For mains we had ordered banana leaf fish fry, veg biriyani, butter chicken and naan. Again we weren’t disappointed. Everything was just superb. <br/><br/>The banana leaf fry is a must try. For desserts we ordered kulfi and gulab jamun. It was the perfect finish to a perfect dinner. <br/>I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.

OMG this place is a hidden gem in Fitzroy.. we had a family dinner and the food tasted amazing.. kudos to the chef Karupasamy.. the menu had an awesome menu mix of South Indian and North Indian varieties.. very friendly and smiling staff..Highly recommended for quality, taste and awesome customer service!!!<br/>
Little Bit Of Everything
I have been to Mukka some time early last year and the food was on point. We went there on Thursday evening and it was packed with people. The service was excellent and quick. My favourite was the Dosa with Smoky Eggplant and peas, definitely one of the best I have eaten. To be frank I have eaten Dosa with eggplant and I thought that was an interesting combination. <br/>We ordered food from them last night and I must say the food was spicy, gingery and garlicky. The flavours weren’t balanced. The spice was overpowering the dish. The dishes we ordered where Bharta, Palak Paneer, Momo’s, plain & garlic naan and original Lassi. <br/>Palak paneer and the Lassi where my favourite. If you are looking for authentic lassi this is where you should get it from. The naans where really big compared to the usual one’s, pretty generous for the price they charge. <br/>
K-Ann
Abit of a let down. Close to empty restaurant and waited 35mins for a dosa. When it finally arrived it was stone cold. They seemed more intent on pushing out uber delivery orders than actual restaurant orders.
Amy
Nicest Indian I have had in Australia so far... the garlic naan was so fresh, it was clear it was made for us as we waited. This was at 9pm on a Sunday night!! The tikka masala was full of flavour, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back!
Shizuko
Eggplant &pea, Mango lassi, Garlic NaN, Chicken masala are good. The salad we ordered is too spicy, the flavour of onion was too strong, and if it could have a little bit lemon flavour, would be better.
Ashy
Went here on a Saturday night with Vinh and it was surpassingly quiet. There were only two other couples in the restaurant but the food was great. The stand out dish was the butter chicken honestly the best I have ever had and the chicken Tikka was also really tasty. They also make great cocktails as well I would definitely go back :)
Nemesia Shafaati
Food alone is 5 stars, service is nothing to complain about and drink selection could be improved but if you are all about the food (like I tend to be) then you surely will not be disappointed. The portion sizes are generous particularly if you order the lunch thali. Great vegan options and also they don't skimp on the meat if you are that way inclined.
Hungry Caterpillar 🥑
Beautiful Indian food with lots of vegan options. Loved the idea of eating off steel plates giving it more of an India feel. We got a vegan banquet which was definitely worth our money. Very generous and really fresh. Probably the best Samosas I have had so far! The momos were probably our least favourite. Great place for vegans. Would definitely go back!
ALM
Everything was delicious<br/>The only thing was average in my point of view-Naan.It has to be more thin and flavoured(ordered a garlic naan).I think it’s not the right consistency.<br/>My favourite dish was butter chicken, unbelievably tasty.
Alana Tendler
My husband loved this place. I thought it was just ok. I’m allergic to coriander and it’s in every curry (although not on the menu) so that made it hard for me to find something to eat.
Joshua Saddick
Amazing Southern Indian food. Easily the best Dosa I've had!<br/><br/>Excellent service and we had been looking for a good Indian restaurant for quite some time.
MeganEatsEverything
Had the palaak pander, garlic naan and classic dosa, everything was satisfying and value for money! Personally liked the tomato spicy chutney that came with the dosa and the cottage cheese in the palaak paneer was such a generous portion and had great quality too. Definitely will come back to try other dishes! Oh and not to forget, the mango lassi was pretty great too.
Zimu Zhang
we had the feed me, generous portions and very tasty food. worth a visit if you're ever around. good vibe and lovely staff. will be back for sure

My picture taking skills aren’t that great as you can see but the food is delicious af! I’ve searching for a decent Indian place for ages and you can get them in Mukka! Pls do let me know any other great places.<br/><br/>The dosai isn’t that crispy but it’s so delicious w the chutneys! Got the lamb saag and the palak paneer, they’re the same base (my bad) but I’ll be back again for more!

Mukka Indian Restaurant is cooking up a storm in Fitzroy.  Thanks to Owners Prateek & Aditya Dhawan, along with their talented team, you can truly experience real authentic Indian cuisine in Melbourne.  By using a combination of fresh ingredients, home smoked ground spices & their mum’s own secret recipes, Mukka have created a delectable line up of dishes that will not disappoint.  You can expect food that is full of flavour, good in portion size and reasonable in price.

Food : ⭐️⭐️⭐️ All the dishes tasted great but unfortunately they were too salty for me. <br/>Price : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Portions are big - Good value<br/>Service : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was very busy. I ordered a garlic naan and the waiter forgot it but at the end he apologized and didn't charge me the naan. <br/>Ambience : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good ambience
Sophie Smith
Wow. Seriously wow. Their butter chicken is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. It is without a doubt the best I have ever had, it has ruined all other butter chickens for me. Heaps of flavour, but not to the point of being overwhelming. Mix that with their rice which is incredibly light on the stomach and it’s amazing.
Preeti Porwal
Nice place, very little choice in mains for vegetarians so we ordered ended up ordering other dishes. Our favourite was eggplant dosa and tandoori mushroom. Not fond of the lassi, wasn’t up to the mark. Enjoyed jalebi with ice cream. In all we had a good time and food was great too! <br/>
Elle
This place is a winner. Do yourself a favour and eat in or pick up as the price rises significantly(as with all meals) if ordered on Ubereats. The restaurant is really sweet, adorned by orange flowers and very laid back. This is consistently good Indian food. Clean, honest, no frills. Recommend the biryani and chicken tikka masala with raita. Grab some naan too. Delicious. The lamb chops are sooooo yum! Good was hot and fresh. Have been a few times and will keep going back. Thumbs up from me.
Linda
Great service, amazing food, good portions, reasonably priced. There is absolutely nothing to fault about this place. Will definitely be coming back for more... and more!

I keep coming back to Mukka - with the friendly service, beautiful decor, and unique take on Indian food, Mukka serves up a colourful experience while retaining all the traditional elements of fiery Indian cuisine. A must!
GoodFood HappyTummy
Late lunch not crowded.<br/>Food was delicious; chicken is soft and juicy, goat curry and naan was good too, oh lassi~ love it. <br/>Maybe not for someone who love their food to be spicy because it's not 😊
Stephanie Jade
Mukka has beautiful Indian food! I especially loved the garlic nan, goat curry, chicken masala and the curried lamb chops. The place gets very busy so make sure you go early to await waiting for a table as they don’t book for small tables. I would 100% recommend this place 👍🏻
Yao
Worst experience ever! We’ve been here many times when it’s quiet, today was quiet busy, and the guy who looks like the manager ask us to put down name and phone number on waiting list. We saw the list there were only us and he said will be around 20mins, therefore my friend and I went for walk and for about thirty minutes they still haven’t contact us so we went back to store. We saw the table that the “manager” told us to wait for people already left and was a table of new people. He then point out another table ask us to wait for 10 mins longer! As if they only care about the quantity of customer, cause the table was four people...there are other Indian restaurant, I would rather go to one treat everyone the same instead of thinking about money first! My time are precious as well!
Simple Eats
Honestly the best butter chicken I have had anywhere in Melbourne! Full of delicious flavours, and the chicken was so tender. The naan was massive, and I'm grateful the waiter warned us how big it was before we ordered too much :) Can't wait to return!
Nit Mish
lovee the vibe of this place, the food is good, more like homecooked indian. i love the rose cocktails here, they're my jam!! the cauliflower 65 was the best i had in melbourne..
Letty Barbs
Long time customer, and a particular fan of the palak paneer curry. I like Mukka, take friends there and often order take away, but when you order 3 samosas and get sauce for 1, and then get charged $4 after asking for additional sauce (and not telling us that it cost extra until we asked for the bill) that’s not cool. They also overcharged is for each samosa which is poor form. Love the venue, mostly love the staff, but don’t charge customers extra when you haven’t been generous enough with your condiments.
Amara
Came here on a Saturday night, but just in time because it definitely gets busy.<br/><br/>I ordered the Dosa with the smokey eggplant and pea filling. It came with three different accompaniments - a curried vegetable chutney (sambar dal), coconut chutney, and an orange sauce (not sure of the actual name). Okay, so the actual dosa was delicious and I loved the filling. The eggplant and peas were very flavourful mixed in with the spices and when eating it with the pancake. I wished there was more of that filling though because it is only in the middle. The pancake itself has a semi-bland but has smokey flavour to it; however the texture was nice.<br/><br/>Enjoyed the sambar dal and the coconut chutney (wished there was more of that) too. The chutney added a nice mild and creamy texture to the dish which was nice; however it wasn't very "coconut". The orange sauce had a distinct smokey flavour, but that was it. I was a bit disappointed with that one.<br/>When you put all the elements together, it all tastes great though! and for the price ($13.50) it's a filling and reasonable meal. <br/><br/>My friend had the Lamb Saag ($19.50) and said it was nice - but that was it.<br/><br/>It does get very loud and can be hard to hear; but the waiters/waitresses are lovely and I found that the food comes out relatively quick. I would like to return to try some of their drinks but that's about it.
Camila José Reyes
Great Indian food! <br/>The restaurant is a bit small, but the food is worth the wait! <br/>Must try the mango lassi, it is amazing! <br/>The naan is also really good and the portions are BIG (which is a winner for me, that I LOVE naan).
Feed Feed
Good decor and good vibes. Unfortunately the food was below par. The curry was strictly okay. The drinks were alright. The staffs working here were very very dull. They could be more jolly when serving customers and not act like a robot. Won't be back for the average food and staffs.
FoodN
Service was good. Food was fragrant with spices but nothing we ordered was spicy (all quite mild). Had the eggplant curry with peas and the goat curry. The goat was very tender but the dish contained a lot of bones and sinew which meant there wasn’t much meat. Overall, a nice meal and I will return to try more of the menu. <br/>

I am not a fan of Indian food but was in the area and saw the positive reviews on zomato so I decided to give it a chance. It was amazing! We had great service last Saturday and delicious chai. I would recommend the paneer curry, roti and lamb curry. It was divine!!!! Please try this place out. I have been back since and ordered it through ubereats :)

We came to Mukka tonight for a family birthday dinner.. love this cute restaurant, great casual feel & very attentive & lovely service. We ordered the goat curry, butter chicken, lamb saag, a naan bread & my husband had a samosa.. Two of us shared the veggie biriyani & a dosa but I tasted the other curries as well and they were all delicious.. overall a lovely dinner.. 😋<br/>

The place was a lot smaller than expected but extremely cute on the inside. The decor of the restaurant itself gives it a very edgy, hippie but modern feel. Definitely suited for Brunswick St. I loved the little touches of India, such as the traditional elephant statue at the counter, map of India and other little paintings on the wall. Staff were extremely friendly but a little disappointed that the owner wasn’t as friendly as his team. Food was great. Even though the place wasn’t like a traditional Indian restaurant, the food was divine. We started off with the grain salad, samosas and onion bhaji. Lasi’s were also great and refreshing, not too heavy. For mains we had the butter chicken and garlic naan. Overall a good experience, but I think this place is a little bit too hyped up on Instagram in comparison to what it actually is in reality.
Eat&Review
This place is dead cute inside. The staff is smiley and attentive. The food is great. I particularly like the eggplant and potato curry and the onion bhaji. Absolutely delicious.
Deepak Sharma
Very disappointed, I had high expectations from this place. We ordered some pav bhaaji and chicken Tikka masala. The bhaaji was just plane aloo matar and chicken Tikka masala was full of red colour and too spicy. I had serious stomach issues after eating that and the colour just wouldn't go off my finger tips even after washing my hands multiple times in the last 12 hours. The only thing good about the place was the samosa and the service.
Leoni Schweikhardt
I was together with my boyfriend. It was such a beautiful evening. The atmosphere is really nice. The food was wonderful! You really have to go there if you like Indian food!
Chen Isaac
Nice deco food and bar restaurant. Food is good and in decent portion. Service is ok but order comes out too slow. The garlic naan is goos too but let down is a massive chunk of charcoal stick to the bottom of it. Not so pleasant bitting into a coal. Overall ok and not wow.
Varun Chandwani
Great food good location.<br/>Had chicken tikka , momos in starters both were good in taste and quantity.<br/>Ordered slow cooked mutton , dal and mutter paneer in main course, again quantity was good and so was the taste. <br/>However, breads served here are quite large in size, so be very careful while ordering them. <br/>Finding parking could be tricky, tram 11 goes directly to the place. <br/>Cheers.

Simply great. Same here as was only indian restaurant open for lunch and glad it was. Great flavour. Great food. Highly recommend. The goat butter chicken and lamb saag. And def have the Somoza<br/>

Firstly it's the ambience I have to talk about. It's a very well done place with a get ambience. Coming to food just like the ambience it doesn't fail to impress our tummy's. Love the food in here and would recommend it anytime. Sply they have fun events going on and everyone shud follow their page for details.

Delicious Indian food! What a feast from curries to momo. We ordered 3 curries, 2 biriyani, 4 naan (beware it’s actually 8 large pieces), baked fish, momo (dumplings), lamb cutlets and a cocktail jug.<br/><br/>My favourite was the fish it was juicy and tasty. Definitely a must order item. The curries were tasty and had a good kick to it. You must definitely order the garlic naan as it is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and with all that curry sauce you will definitely need it.
Kahl P
No complaints about the food, real tasty! A bit of warning about the spice of the tikka masala wouldn't have gone astray! Nothing a bit of Raita/refill of our water couldn't have fixed if only the staff returned once they dropped off our meals... <br/>Our starters never came out (actually thankfully as I was full to the brim after the giant eggplant dosa and giant Garlic naan) but we could've mentioned it to them had they paid us any attention, yes it was busy, but I don't think any excuse for being forgotten about. <br/>The girl was apologetic once I mentioned it at the end, but had no idea, and didn't offer any compensation. Wrapping up - good food, not great service in this instance. <br/>
Melissa O'Dwyer
This place has a lovely calm and tranquil atmosphere with a modern Indian edge. The staff were courteous and nice and catered to our requests. The food tasted fresh and was above average and delivered on taste and the menu had good vegan and vegetarian options. The only thing that I could have asked for was more spice and possibly fresh herbs like a coriander garnish. Staff did extend their opening hours so we could get our food to takeaway.
Chela
Excellent veg thali! The most authentic Indian food that I have eaten in Australia so far. Also love the dosas. Always busy, good service, colourful space and lively energy
Ant
Food was awesome though a little small portion size compared to similar restaurants in the area. Was priced a little high in comparison. Friendly staff. Boring venue.
Ruth Cathcart
Delicious and fresh Indian. Good servings and naan was huge! None of the dishes were greasy and a couple came with a nice little spicey kick! Dumplings were okay but I’d stick with their mains. Friendly and quick service.
Bitter As This Melon
First thoughts when walking in were great, it was a nice clean looking restaurant although the toilets were located down a narrow alleyway the rest of the place looks decent.<br/><br/>Ordered the goat curry, lamb saag and chickpea and spinach curry. Had some white rice and the pea pulao rice (not that great to be honest). The garlic naan was good, but can't really go wrong with garlic naan. The chickpea and spinach curry was surprising spicy but was still edible. The goat was tender but lacking in flavour. The lamb saag was the highlight of the night with a nice sauce and tender lamb. The mango lassi didn't taste much of mango at all, wasn't the greatest mango lassi that I've had. Although I can't fault much there really wasn't anything spectacular about their dishes that you can't get at any other indian restaurant around melbourne.
GET•IN•MY•BELLY
I’ve been told by many to eat here and we did and it lived up to expectation. Cool little shop with great service. I didn’t find the curries to be overly spicy which is how I like it
Remy Matthew
Average. Was expecting something really authentic. Spicy lamb chops and goat curry are only good stuff. Staff was polite and nice. But the place is small and Cosy
The Go Go Mumma
Mukka was our dinner destination for a family members birthday. Upon learning this I instantly jumped on Zomato to see what my fellow reviewers had to say. I was pleasantly surprised to hear we could be on a winner! As many wrote raving reviews, needless to say I had high hopes.<br/><br/>The moment I entered cheerful decor instantly lifted my spirits, tastefully decorated and bursting with personality it’s easy to see why it’s a favourite for so many. The vibe alone makes you want to stay.<br/><br/>Majority of our dishes were the bomb.com. The goat curry was my only disappointment, as I was expecting the fall off the bone melt in your mouth delight (as explained on Mukka’s menu) I lucked out only received a chewy tough piece, flavours were still fab. The butter chicken and onion bhaji were my favourites for the night. My drink of delectable rose and cinnamon lassi was soft and delicate and helped cool my tastebuds from some of the spicer dishes. <br/><br/>I’m a fan and can’t wait to take others to this spot to share the love! <br/><br/>
Nalia
Mixed feelings. Started with the original lassi which was quite nice, but the pav bhaji was disappointing as there were large chunks of potato in the bhaji rather than it being all nicely mashed up. Our next dish however, the banana leaf fish fry with two idlis was the highlight of the meal. The fish was juicy with a delicious, slightly spicy marinade and I would consider coming back for this dish alone. We also ordered the chicken and paneer tikkas which were not bad, and the falooda kulfi to finish which is a little sweet for my tastes.
Neha Pratap
Went to do the "Just Feed Me" menu and ordered the non veg option. Entree of Bhel Puri and Chicken Tikka were delicious. Then Mains were Dahl, Paneer Curry and Goat Curry. The currys lacked spice and this was disappointing. Also disappointing was that we got two veg dishes and one non veg. We had to order another non veg to satisfy our cravings/hunger. Serving size was reasonable and dessert was good. Won't be rushing back anytime soon.
Vegetarian Food Lover
Great Indian restaurant with lots of vegetarian choices. We had the Just Feed Me meals & were struggling after the entree’s. Loved the naan bread!
Ritu Makhija
Coming from a Indian; you're in for an absolute treat! My friends and I ordered the 'feed me buffet' with added on drinks and butter chicken - and we were in heaven. Brought me right back home in mums kitchen. The stand outs were the goat curry and bhel puri. We just couldn't stop eating! The servings, and naans were generously sized too. Service and the atmosphere topped it all off for me. A funky, warm friendly vibe from the staff and the aroma coming from the kitchen was memorable. Will happily travel hours to eat here again! Great job Mukka!

The Good: We went on a Saturday night, the place smelt and looked great and was packed. We left our number and got a text within 20 mins to come take our seats. The service was hilarious, the guy who served us wasn't short of comedic flare. <br/><br/>The Bad: the food was really good but wasn't exceptional. It takes a modern approach on Indian food which is all well and good but I felt it was a little bland and had flavours I wouldn’t expect in an Indian dish.
Steph Giles
I've been here once to dine in and once from ubereats and was impressed by both meals. Favourite dishes were the goat curry, chicken tikka masala and aloo baingan. Naan was ok but not the best I've had and matar paneer was tasty but a little more plain in comparison to the flavour-filled other dishes. Atmosphere and presentation at the restaurant was nice.
Hashwina Vimalarajan
I'd been longing to try Mukka for the longest time now not only because of its popularity but because it fills up 1/4th of my Instagram and I've constantly dreamt about this moment!<br/><br/>Recently I got to go there for a friend's bday dinner and this was my experience.<br/><br/>First impressions of the place and the decor was all real nice. The place is really cute, clean and the staff are extremely lovely! I infact, gave extra ratings for this review taking into consideration how nice the staff were.<br/><br/>My friends and I ordered the idiyapam with stew, momos , Kerala banana leaf fish fry w/ idli and traditional dosa accompanied by a rose and cinnamon lassi and some chai. The beverages were really good although the lassi had an overpowering amount of yoghurt. It was still very good.<br/><br/>Now the food, was honestly very average. Maybe the restaurant serves North Indian cuisine better and I cannot judge as I've only tasted a few dishes but all the dishes served to us were subpar. The fish fry dish was not even provided with chutney on the side whereas the table next to us was served the exact dish moments later neatly presented with chutney, which came off as a disappointment. The dosa was good but not crisp and the dal/curry that came with it tasted really bad. The idiyapam was nice but not filling enough , as you can see from the size and the stew was lacking in flavor with just coconut milk sustaining it. The momos were fine but I feel like the accompanying sauce could have been spicier or more flavorful. As an Indian you crave for spice and flavor in the dishes and I think a lack thereof was a general trend presented amongst the dishes we had tried. The gulab jamun for dessert was lovely and they were kind enough to accommodate our wish and have a bday candle for our friend.<br/>Overall, my friends and I would say that we were satisfied only with the beverages, dosa and dessert but the rest of the food was not up to mark. I am not sure if it is such with those particular dishes or how it is overall but I had expected much more out of an award winning restaurant.<br/><br/>The recommendations I would give would be to firstly add more items/options to the menu and secondly to check the flavors and or preparation of each dish before it's presented.<br/><br/>It saddens me to give such an average rating to a restaurant that was I was expecting so much more out of but such was the experience. The ambience and staff were lovely but the culinary experience could have been so much more.
Jimfrost1991
Interesting take on Indian food which was generally fresh tasty and pretty good value. Chicken tikka was a little dry and goat curry was nearly a bowl of bones, fat and gravy but was fairly tasty. Paneer curry was nice and spicy if not a bit bland. Service is fast and welcoming but this isn’t a place I would rush to go back to.

Nice place with good customer service. Their Kadhai chicken is awesome and highly recommended. Also, try their goat masala as that is the most spicy dish they have.

Straight up 5 for me. Can't recall having eaten better Indian. I usually would stay away from the likes of butter chicken but I recommend it here. Prices are good too, they are generous serves with lots of meat. Get around it

Very tasty authentic Indian food can be found at Mukka. Having tried many Indian restaurants around Melbourne, Mukka is up there with the best. Everything we ordered was delicious. I highly recommend the tandoori mushrooms.
Dr S
Mukka is a cool bright Indian eatery that reminds me of Punjab with its colourful kites, rangoli designs on the edges of its tables and steel plates and glasses.<br/><br/>Mukka tries to steer away from being the typical noerh Indian restaurants you find across Australia by introducing South Indian dishes like the classic masala dosa, uttapam, idli to its menu. It also innovates with dishes like eggplant in dosa (unheard of) and Matar paneer with the choice of tofu, Palakkad paneer with tofu as an option. It also has limited street Indian options like bhel puri and samosas<br/><br/>I wanted my Colombian friend to have the authentic Indian experience. He had only had dhaal, butter chicken, biryani and chicken tikka masala in the past.<br/><br/>We got the classic masala dosa which is a massive crepe with mushy potatoes cooked with onion and mustard seeds, coconut chutney and thick sambar. The sambar is the way north Indians make sambar. Instead of being watery it's quite dry. But it reminded me of the way my mum made sambar at home. The potatoes are not spicy. And my friend loved this dish as he said Colombians love their potatoes. I thought it was ok. It didn't taste like authentic South Indian dosa. But very delicate and home style tasting.<br/><br/>The chicken biryani came in an earthen pot. We asked for spicy and it was. You could taste the green in the chopped chilli. It was so hot that all I could taste was the smoky flavour and spice. I don't know which spice mukka used but it was the same spice in the Matar paneer. I expected the Matar paneer to be spicy as we asked for it to be but it lacked the tomato flavour that is customary to Matar paneer. It was addictively spicy and I wiped the bowl clean. The garlic naan is massive. The biggest I've seen. So definitely value for money.<br/><br/>The matar paneer had this spice that I couldn't quite place. I couldn't taste the usual onion, garam masala and cumin in it. I liked how it was different to anything I had ever tasted. It's definitely a spice home ground by mukka. So unique.<br/><br/>The kufli falooda was disappointing. It was chopped pieces of kulfi floating in rose syrup with chirongi, chia and falooda. The chia was a bad idea. So weird. Couldn't taste the pistachio.<br/><br/>And after all of that bill was a mere 52 bucks. What a bargain. I'm going back. Service is quick and friendly.

We visited Mukka after 6-8 months. The look and feel of the restaurant is very cosy. But The quality of the food has gone extremely down. It has become like any other Indian takeaway joint. <br/>The food lacked flavour, being an Indian we love the taste of powerful spices. The food that was served to us made us feel as if the chef was hesitant to bring the spices on the plate. It lacked flavour and taste. Chicken tikka masala is a classic dish which allows any individual to enjoy. This was an utter disappointment & <br/>Unfortunately this place is off our list <br/>

Really good food with a unique take on cocktails (try the chaitini)! The biriyani in particular was delicious. Highly recommend booking for a Thurs - Saturday night, even if you're planning to get there after 9pm!

Best Indian restaurant in northern melbourne. Slow cook goat curry and chicken tikka were awesome. Real taste of India ☺️☺️👌. I want to visit this restaurant once again to try all other dishes.
Jean
We had the biryani chicken and lamb! You could just taste all the spices they had in the rice' the chicken was so tender, however the lamb was tough, tasted overcooked. The masala chai was delicious! Not too sweet!

Chicken curry dosa yum! Really tasty curry, light crispy dosa, delicious sauces. Nice sized portion. Funky decor. Good service.Perfect Sunday lunch.

Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The goat curry was the stand out for sure but we also tried the lamb chops, chicken tikka, the fish and the Dahl- all outstanding. Super generous portions for garlic naan!! We ordered 3 serves but that would've been enough for 5/6 people! Fast service and great value for money.

Atmosphere was buzzing- even on a rainy Thursday night- but it was not so loud you couldn't be heard, giving the place a great vibe. <br/><br/>The service was impeccable, friendly and very attentive and the front of house was very on the ball. <br/><br/>The food was fantastic, a very extensive menu to choose from so I will certainly be back to try some more from it. Played it safe with the chickpea curry (a good old favourite) which did not disappoint with many layers of spice and flavour with every bite. We did branch out to try a goat curry but be aware of the bones when eating (especially the small ones). The entrees were also lovely, the samosa crispy and the momos delicious ! Everything was a winner. <br/><br/>EDIT: the Gobi 65 is an absolute must along with the bharta and aloo baingan curries (both with eggplant). I think these dishes will be part of my regular order from now on ! <br/><br/>I would recommend coming here on an empty stomach because there is so much on this menu that is worth trying, or alternatively, make this place a staple for good Indian food like I will be and come back again and again.

This was the first indian restaurant I went to that was the whole deal: delicious food, cute decor and great service! We came here for a birthday and had the just feed me option. I don't think I had ever seen so much bread in my life! This was one of the occasions you feel you can't eat anymore because you are going to explode, but decide to take the risk cause you just feel guilty of wasting such good food. The only thing I didn't like much was the dessert. Anyway if you love indian food, it's a MUST try!

It’s been about five months since I left the shores of Australia for a new life in Europe. I haven’t forgotten my final meal, which was a stellar performance. Mukka Indian Restaurant made for a perfect sendoff. This ended up being my favourite Indian meal of the ones I ended up having in Melbourne. Delicious flavours, delivered fuss-free and without an eye-watering price. Mukka won the Time Out Best Cheap Eat a few years back, but even more importantly they were long-held favourites for my Indian friends. These guys know their way around a curry and so do the folk at Mukka. Even the seating felt South Indian, we were a little toasty next to the kitchen. The heat levels in the food were more soothing. Mukka delivers top notch curries, fluffy naan and flavourful chicken tikkas. We ended up ordering an extra two times (!) as we couldn’t get enough – even my friend’s toddler (notoriously hard to please) was a decided fan. You can bet it’s on my list for when I’m back but make sure you pop them a visit if you’re there!

Staff is very friendly and the presentation is quite impressive. We ordered a couple of items among which fish served in banana leaf and chicken tikka were the best. The tastiest fish me and my friends ever tasted👍🏻👍🏻

Been to Mukka a few times now. I have to say it is by far the most authentic Indian food I've eaten in Australia. My favourites would be their bhel puri(the flavours are amazing!), paneer tikka and garlic naan. The gobi 65 is really tasty as well. The curries are very good too, probably the chicken tikka masala scores higher than the butter chicken. The only dish I've eaten and not liked is their jalebi.. it didn't have enough syrup at all and tasted more like jahangir :/ <br/>Be prepared to wait a while on weekend nights because annoyingly and not unusually, they don't take bookings for groups under 6. Once you get to the table though, the service is attentive enough and they roll out the food pretty fast.

I visited Mukka for dinner with friends on a Monday evening. I'd heard good things on social media and the food definitely delivered! We had a variety of curries including the butter chicken and palak paneer which were delicious, and the garlic naan was amazing as well. The atmosphere was really nice and we all really enjoyed ourselves!

Had been looking forward to going here after all the reviews and recommendations from friends. Was not disappointed. The Indian region where the food is from is a little different to what might be familiar for some e.g. No Vindaloo but what is on offer is tasty and interesting. I would highly recommend the Tibetan momos which are like an Indian dumpling. The chickpea 'sauce' that comes with it is awesome. Paneer tiki well worth a try as well. Spicy and flavourful. Busy atmosphere and friendly service. Walk in only. My roti was a little underdone but this did not detract from an enjoyable experience that I hope to repeat soon
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
A sudden onset of blustery, chilly weather suddenly made Indian food a rather enticing option for dinner. The longing for warmth and spice saw us head to Mukka, which we’ve found to be quite reliable in satisfying our cravings.

Loved the atmosphere in this place. They get v busy on weekends but food is delicious. Not average Indian takeaway style but really nice. Partner loved it

I ordered takeaway from here after reading the reviews here. I ordered their special goat curry and peas pulao.<br/><br/>Goat curry price was $22 and the portion was just enough for 2 people but full of bones and devoid of meat. The taste was average and nothing special. For that price, you would expect great portion with great taste. <br/><br/>Peas pulao was sprinkled with too much garam masala and the taste was okay. Again nothing special.<br/><br/>Maybe takeaway food is not the same as the food served in the restaurant but then the prices are exactly the same.<br/><br/>Overall, an extremely poor experience and definitely not ordering or visiting Mukka again.

Let me preface this by saying I am Indian, so when I say that this place had some of the most incredible Indian food ever, I mean it. Their slow cooked goat curry is genuine and the flavours will send you spiralling. Add to that the ambience, and the singing coming from the kitchen was just superb. I highly highly recommend!
Celia Robertson
Best Indian I've ever had! My partner and I are the biggest Indian food junkies and it was by far the best in Melbourne! The place also isn't your typical Indian restaurant... It's cool, funky, modern and also has decent tunes. Thank you so much ❤
Joel
Lovely place to eat. Cosy and intimate layout and the food is great! Highly recommend! The butter chicken is a hit. Will be back many more times!

Bit pricey but good deals for lunch break, with mains at 15 dollars! Delicious all the vegetarian options Paneer spinach curry is very good and tasty

You know you're in a Terrific restaurant when its food takes you on a culinary journey to three different cities in one meal - on this particular occasion, it was Bombay, Pune and Kerala! <br/><br/>One of my favourite pastimes is taking myself out for lunch (yes I know that may across as slightly narcissistic) and so I made my way to Mukka one fine Sunday afternoon:) I'd been meaning to try this restaurant for a while now because of all the good things I'd heard about it and when I checked out their menu - I was mighty impressed! Because it had everything the south Indian in me craved for and more! <br/><br/> Though it seemed quite unassuming on the outside, as I stepped in, I was immediately charmed by its old - school - Bollywood demeanour! Bright pops of colour everywhere but not a way which becomes a sore to the eye! Mukka has a warm, welcoming and lively vibe to it.<br/><br/>I ordered the "Rose and cinnamon Lassi" to start with. Lassi is a yogurt based drink - this one was light, not too sweet and very refreshing. I really liked the touch of dried rose petals as a garnish!<br/><br/>For entrée I had the Bhel Puri - it was just the right Balance of sweet, sour and spice! It was a combination of potato, peanuts and onion mixed through with mint chutney and tamarind, tied together with refreshing pops of sweet acidity from the pomegranate! <br/><br/>I had the "Iddiyappam" for main. "Iddiyappam" is the Indian word for "String Hopper's". A dish which is particularly close to my heart as it was one of my favourite south Indian meals while growing up.<br/>The String Hopper's were served with a fragrant coconut milk based stew consisting of a medley of vegetables. It was both sweet and spicy (from the green chillies) - but not too spicy that it took away from the flavour of coconut milk that I so love in a good Kerala style stew! The String Hopper's themselves were soft and well seasoned. <br/><br/>For dessert I had their Gulaab Jamun with vegan vanilla ice cream - the Jamuns were lovely and light! Not too sweet and they just melted in the mouth! <br/><br/>A fabulously delicious meal overall:) <br/><br/>Service was really good! Warm, friendly and efficient!:) <br/><br/>I can't wait to go back for another meal! Though I am on a diet at the moment, but hey Mukka is worth breaking any diet for! 😊<br/><br/><br/><br/>

Food was beautifully prepared but took a long time to arrive- waiting time should be reduced. Snacks were really great, authentic taste. Lassi was yum. 😋 More vegetarian options should be introduced- especially with the thali - it should be more flexible for vegetarians- or at least have popular dishes like dal+paneer or malai kofta. When dining out, not a lot of people want to eat baingan 😒 south Indian is not good here.
Kate
My first time trying Mukka and it was via UberEats so it was a more limited menu. Ordered the spinach and chickpea curry, butter chicken, garlic naan, samosas and steamed rice. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but the chickpea and spinach curry was really exceptional, spicy yet mellow at the same time and felt somehow restorative. The butter chicken was pretty classic, just lightly spiced and a little sweet and very silky and creamy with tender pieces of thigh from the tandoor. The samosas seemed to be spiked with a little fresh green chilli. My only complaint - which is probably pretty subjective - is the garlic naan wasn't very garlicky and wasn't at all buttery (gheey) as I've come to expect so it wasn't as tasty, and was a little doughy, but great to use for mopping up the butter chicken. Looking forward to dining in at Mukka as the menu seems to be much more extensive and with South Indian leanings.

Food: I've been looking for a restaurant for the past 10 years in Melbourne that could make Kachhi biryani (one pot cooking). This type of biryani is difficult to master. Have I found the place this time? I think the answer is yes! Biryani tasted fabulous. The lamb and the rice were cooked to perfection and the quantity was just right for one person. Rice had no extra colour added to it like you usually find in other restaurants. I think I could see original saffron colour in the rice but it was subtle. Little bit of flavour could be added to the biryani just to push your rating to 5. <br/><br/>Service: service was good. Food was not brought to our table in a hurry and was served hot.<br/><br/>Seating comfort: A bit cramped and there could be more space between the tables.<br/>
Evonne Dsouza
We had chicken and paneer tikka for entree and they were very good. The spice on the chicken and the paneer was good with the right amount of flavour. For mains we had goat curry, baigan bharta, paneer mattar and dal tadka which were again amazing. Unlike other Indian restaurants where the food is loaded with butter, oil and ghee...Mukka was light and flavoursome. Definitely will go back again. Loved the ambiance and the service. Only one negative that the naans were little thick.
Rachel Blake
loved this Indian food! The service was excellent, our rice was a little late out so they let us have it for free. The tikka masala was a great tasting curry with good spice. Dips and popadoms to start were light and tasty. <br/><br/>Fairly priced as well and a great atmosphere inside.
Big Eyes For A Big Tummy
Hands down favourite Indian restaurant for us!! Best goat curry we've had - it's our favourite Indian dish and these guys do it so perfectly well. Tender, juicy and fall off the bone meat. Flavour of curry is not overly intense like a lot of other restaurants so you can actually appreciate what the flavour and texture goat meat is all about! Everything else we ordered was so good, would be happy to come back and reorder the same but can't wait to try the rest of the menu. I love the set up of this place. Colourful wall graffiti art and so vibrant, yet intimate, fits right into the area. Young friendly service with (I'm guessing!) the mother directing the kitchen so smoothly. Highly recommended! Very busy - we came just before 6:30 on a Saturday night and got seated straight away. People waiting for tables by the time we left.
Alex Butenko
Nice food, big flavours, good service! We went here for a dinner last night and we quite enjoyed it. Samosa was delicious, the coriander dip that came with it too. Butter Chicken was creamy, spicy and yummy! Garlic Naans were fresh, crispy and soft. We weren't that keen on Spinach & Chick Pea curry, but nothing was wrong with the food - we just preferred the Butter Chicken. Nice Indian-inspired cocktail list too!
Georgina Long
Delicious! V polite and friendly staff! $69 for two including drinks. Recommend the Lassi. We also had chicken tikka masala, garlic naan (perfect not too thick), salad and rice.
Good Food Good Mood
Wowzer they sure don't hold back on the spice. My mouth was literally on fire so much so that I really couldn't enjoy it. It probably didn't help that we started with one of their spiciest the chicken tikka and moved to milder dishes like butter chicken but by that point my tastebuds had already been rendered numb. Almost downed the entire Indian summer cocktail jug solo to cool down. They do call out on the menu that those dishes are spicy so clearly I thought I was more hardcore than I actually am. Props for the decor it really makes a point of being a modern edgy Indian restaurant (we are in Fitzroy after all) and do I love a family run affair with traditional recipes passed down but I just didn't really enjoy my experience
Gastrology
One of our favourite Indian restaurants in Melbourne, Mukka delivers Indian cuisine like you have never tasted before by treating guests to authentic Indian cuisine just the way it’s done in India. We loved re-visiting Mukka and continuing to discover the menu. . As far as cocktails go, these guys have it down pat. For an interesting take on the traditional, we love their mango lassi with coconut rum cocktail. It doesn't always appear on the menu or specials board, but it's always available! Try it, you'll love it.

Oh my goodness, we have probably just tried the best Indian food we have ever eaten. The world actually needs to know about this place! hahaha<br/><br/>Out of all the dishes we ordered here, our top picks would definitely be the butter chicken, lamb curry, the naans and the chicken tikka. (Although if you order pretty much anything that you think you’d like - it will be real tasty.) Love how this place is family run and love that they focus on using quality ingredients.<br/><br/>Will most definitely be back and recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a good Indian feast!<br/><br/>Join us for more food adventures on Instagram! Hey guys, sorry it’s been so long between posts, but after 7 years of doing this I think I just ran out of steam at the end of last year. Work was taking over, the time and love I had to dedicate to editing and writing was disappearing, and honestly, I’m sometimes a bit jaded with the direction food blogging has taken.
Melbourneats
The best indian restaurant in melbourne! Naan bread is buttery lathered with fresh garlic. Basmati steamed rice is beautiful and clean. Chicken Tikka Masala was great for the spicy lovers. Wasn’t a big fan of the onion bhaji, didn’t taste as fresh and not much filling, there was more batter than filling. The original dosa was quite tasty with the three different dips. <br/>Drinks are great! Love their Mango lassi and their iced chai with rum! The butter chicken is to die for, the only thing we looked forward to.<br/>Staff are lovely.<br/>Can get quite pricey which stops us from coming very often. <br/>Take your lover, friends or family here, even your indian friend!
Muse
nice indian food, lots of flavour. will definitely go back. the only negative is the acoustics are really bad so if it is busy (likely) you can't hear anybody. the food is so good though that it doesn't matter.
Angelique Burke
My family and I had dinner at this restaurant, and we were very disappointed at the quality ,and lack of flavour of the food. <br/>It appears to be  authentic ,both the decor and menu seems promising,  but the food, is not.<br/>Chicken Tikka lacked flavour and tasted like a supermarket stir and serve sauce product ,<br/>and not some thing made from scratch.<br/>And the Tika Masala was no better,<br/>Potato dosa was cold.<br/>We spent over a hundred dollars for a very mediocre meal.<br/>And I feel this neighbourhood has too many really good restaurants to waste money on a return visit .
Chemchem
So good. Have been here 3 times now and will be coming back lots. Delicious food. Good value for money. Great ambience. And very friendly staff. Highly recommend. But don't everyone come, because I don't want to end up lining up for a table ;)

Exceptional service, delicious food. It's the third time I've been here now, and every time it's amazing. Staff are incredibly friendly, patient and helpful, and the food...the food! Seriously, the food. Order anything, I don't think you can go wrong. New favourite on Brunswick Street. And easily the best Indian I've tried in Melbourne.
Corey Busuttil
The ambiance taste and wait staff at this place was really great. The meals came out quick and everything tasted really good. Especially the eggplant dish. The only real downside is the serving size. The butter chicken was maybe a third of a regular normal size you would expect a any restaurant and it cost $18... increase the servings sizes and this place would be a winner

Walked in at sat night. Ordered lamb chop (delish but lukewarm), the Tibetan momos are very interesting Indian dumplings. Chicken teka masala go really well with their naan bread. Also the biriyani is must order! Mango lasi taste more like ice blend smoothies but I like the ginger taste of it very unique. Not to mention their gorgeous portion size! Prepare might need to drink lots of water after😂 a nice new style Indian place👍 will be back😋

Wonderful, genuine, friendly Indian restaurant! Amazing real curries with groovy ambience! Loved their traditional contemporary take on Indian food! Saturday experience with family and friends! Very positive soulful experience!

Thank you Mukka for brining authentic Indian food to Melbourne! Your curries are delicious and the Chicken Tikka is to die for! We love the smaller street food options too! Yum 😍
Ivan Horsey
Not a good place<br/><br/>I love their masala but from last week masala dosa is not available when ever i go they make fake excuses and garlic naan from few days are digusting and goat curry completely changed. <br/><br/>i dont think i will go there ever again...........

I am a regular at Mukka and its about time I tell everyone about this awesome restaurant, I have eaten at majority of Indian restaurants in Melbourne. Mukka is definitely on top of the list. <br/><br/>The restaurant has a relaxed vibe and music is not intrusive. The menu has options for both vegans and meat lovers. My favourite is Kerala fish with Dahl and Goat Curry. <br/><br/>If you don’t want to have a full meal, Mukka offers a lot of small options that go well with a chai or cocktail from their well presented cocktail menu. <br/><br/>Highly recommended.
@twogoodtoresist
Don't think we've ever walked out of a restaurant more satisfied! Unbelievable modern Indian food, fantastic service and great drinks! The options are endless, the food was tasty and we loved all the modern takes on traditional Indian food! Reasonably priced, delicious and fun- what more could you want! We also highly recommend the "feed me" option- 30$ for all you can eat- we couldn't believe the value behind this option!!

Went to Mukka last night and absolutely fell in love with their service. The food was fresh and tasty with the perfect amount of spices. We tried dosa, kerala fish and momos all good and absolutely yum! Will definitely go back 🤓👍🏻

Having Mukka a few months ago, we<br/>came back last night to satisfy our curry craving again! The<br/>food was just as delicious and we were welcomed by friendly staff. The chicken<br/>tikka masala is my all-time favourite and is to die for! They also had a great<br/>selection of cocktails, I really liked the Bloody Maharani! Will definitely be coming back again.

We went to Mukka last night, the service from multiple wait staff was absolutely terrible. The food took a long time. When the meal came out the rice tasted sort of like plastic or chemicals, we should not have eaten it however we were very hungry. That night my partner and I both vomited and had thumping headaches. Will certainly not return to this place and would not recommend it.
Rebecca R
Good take away we got from here. The butter chicken was great as was the spicy eggplant dish we got. I didn't really like the lassi or the raita but that's just my personal taste. Order 2 sets of rice for two people!

Average food....! Sequence of food was rushed....! <br/>Ambience ok.....! Hospitality was good.... ! <br/>May not visit again....! <br/>Better options available in surroundings....!

Massive call, but I'm standing by it; Mukka is THE BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT IN MELBOURNE. At least in my opinion. So many vegan options it was an arduous task to avoid ordering every single vegan dish on the menu.<br/><br/>I've never had saag paneer substituting tofu for cheese (obviously not super traditional) except when I've experimented with making it myself. Mukka's rendition is one of the best things I've put in my face all year. The same can be said for everything else I sampled; the bhel puri - puffed rice with tomato, cucumber, potato, pomegranate, tamarind and spices, the smokey eggplant bharta, the Tibetan cabbage momo which were inhaled in seconds, the light, crispy masala dosa with perfectly tempered potatoes and coconut sambal, the yoghurt-free tandoori mushrooms and almond milk based rose/cinnamon and mango/pistachio lassis to finish were all OUTSTANDING. <br/><br/>This is a sentiment shared by both the boyfriend and my old man, both of whom (unlike myself) have travelled extensively across the subcontinent, thus exposing them to an abundance of "the real deal". I've always been a harsh critic of Indian food because I prefer southern dishes (light, very heavy on chilli) rather than the more-popular-with-whitey rich, creamy northern style dishes, so I do tend to get irrationally excited when I come across things like dosa (and medu vada, which is probably my favourite Indian snack; if only Mukka would add them to their selection!) on a menu, though I'd probably have more luck if I ventured out into the suburbs where there's a larger ethnic community rather than confining myself to the inner north.<br/><br/>Writing this review is actually making me salivate, it's a good thing (or bad, in the case of my bank account) that Mukka also delivers via ubereats. COME AT ME, INDIAN DELICIOUSNESS!
Judene Messi
I quite like this place! We had butter chicken and lamb biryani with a side of mango archaar. Their servings are huge and food is really tasty. Butter chicken wasn't too sweet or buttery with just the right amount of flavours! The lamb was cooked nicely and was really soft. I did however think that the biryani could have been abit more spicy but overall food is great will definitely come back!
A Taste Wish
not so good...quantity was not sufficient at all...food tasted just OK...<br/>the ambience is great...<br/>its ok to try this restaurant once but i will definitely not go here the second time!!!!!
RotKW
This is the type of place that takes you far far away to somewhere dreamy. In this case a New Delhi much cooler than the one I know. The food is brilliant, creative, the vibe happy. Beautiful smoky eggplant dhosa and refreshing savoury lassi are my new favourite lunch. Who wants to join me?
Natalie
Overall the experience at mukka was average. We ordered momos (Tibetan dumplings), butter chicken, mamosa, dosa, spicy lamb chops, matar paneer, garlic naan, plain naan, Roti and a mango cooler.<br/><br/>The momos weren't that great. They were dry and not moist. The sauce that went with the momos didn't help highlight any flavours either.<br/><br/>The butter chicken was quite good, but I've had better from local Indian cafes. <br/><br/>The matar paneer was good within the first three bites but got sickening afterwards as it was quite rich and creamy (personally I can't handle very rich and creamy foods). <br/><br/>The mamosa. By itself, it was alright. With the sauces, it highlighted the flavours and the spices. <br/><br/>The dosa was interesting. I've never had one before and it was my first time. I'm not sure what to think of it. I definitely need to try another dosa again to get a feel of it but overall it was an enjoyable experience.<br/><br/>The spicy lamb chops were really good. The spices were all there and the chops were juicy and succulent. Definitely would recommend getting this if you go there. <br/><br/>The naans were rather good. But they're naans, you can't go wrong with them. The Roti however wasn't that great. But that's just because I'm not digging a whole meal Roti. <br/><br/>The drink however, the mango cooler, was really good. Definitely recommend. If you're not feeling like a mango lassi and something lighter then definitely go for the mango cooler. It wasn't too rich and creamy, it's just right. The mango wasn't overpowering either. <br/><br/>The service overall was okay. The waiter didn't look too pleased, but it looked like there was only one waiter and I wouldn't blame her as it was a full house on the night. <br/><br/>Would I come back here again? Probably not. The price for what you pay is rather expensive and the foods weren't outstanding. You're probably better going to local or small Cafes where the foods are more authentic and memorable.

Mukka is different from your typical Indian restaurants. The most prominent difference - the overall atmosphere and vibe of the place. Small touches to the place such as paper origami flowers, artwork on walls and block prints on the table give it a completely different feel compared to the other Indian restaurants out there. Coming down to the food, the serving size of the starters is value for money. For drinks, I tried the mango lassi and rose cinnamon lassi. The consistency of the mango lassi was very thick, I will forgive them for that as the only place I've had the perfect mango lassi in Melbourne was at Om Vegetarian. The rose cinnamon lassi however was a winner, offering diverse and pungent flavours. Coming down to the curries, I was a little disappointed in terms of authentic flavours, which is okay as you can tell by the vibe of the menu and place, Mukka attempts a western twist. Overall, Mukka is worth a visit. Keep in mind, this place is very busy on weekends and there can be a wait of up to 15-20 mins.

Best Indian restaurant I've been to so far! Great food (butter chicken and garlic naan 🙌🏾 *drools*). Very fast service, and in love with the decor. We will definitely be back soon!!

What should I say, it is simply 5 of 5 (Food, service & ....). But Zoomato application expect me to write 140 character. Simply 5 out of 5. See you in the next review.

I want to give this place a higher rating but their Baigan Bharta didn't actually have any Baigan! And you know when you've been craving something, like eggplant and you just wish it was actually there? The entire dish was onions and peas so that was super disappointing but the lamb saag was awesome.

Ordered via Uber Eats, got the Lamb Biryani and Garlic Naan. The order arrived quickly (30 min) the flavours were good very authentic (got some spice to it), generous portion of meat. keen to try some more dishes at the restaurant. will  recommenced to all who are after a solid Indian feed.

Dec’17 - went to have dinner at the restaurant this time. Shared the butter chicken (with free range chicken!), goat curry, garlic naan, charts, rice and a salad. After waiting for about 30 minutes the waiter came to tell us something went wrong with our order and it didn’t go through to the kitchen. The re-took or order. It would’ve been nice if they offered us a drink to make up for it. <br/>The food was very nice except for the Bhakti. I couldn’t even taste the eggplant in it. The waitress said it was her favourite, so maybe it wasn’t as good as normally. Bill was $99 for 3 people incl two drinks and we were very full! <br/><br/>Jun’16 - Ordered food at Mukka after a tip from a friend. We used Deliveroo with a discount code which made it good value ($15 off). The delivery came about the time that it was expected (about 40 minutes after ordering). We ordered the goat curry, chicken marsala and two samosa's. When it arrived we thought the portions were quite small, but what we didn't realise is that we didn't get any rice. Prices are high to exclude the rice. We quickly cooked some rice ourselves. All the food was fairly spicy. The samosa's weren't that great. The curry's were nice. The curry's come in compostable containers, which I think is awesome! Wouldn't mind trying again, but the food hasn't completely convinced me.

Mukka Fitzroy is a relative newcomer to Melbourne’s Indian food scene, having opened at the end of 2015. It’s been operating under the radar but slowly word has been getting out that Mukka is a place that lovers of good Indian food want to visit.

Had an amazing meal here, best Indian I'v had in long time. Very well priced...great value for large dishes. The slow cooked goat curry was incredible- highly recommend!!!

really outstanding Indian. tried a few things over the past few weeks and will be back again to try more. <br/><br/>tandoori shrimp, butter chicken, panek paneer, tandoori mushroom all fully (but not over) spiced and excellent. <br/><br/>comfortable vibe with musical energy. service is attentive and friendly.

It’s always a pleasure to be invited to visit a restaurant and even though I drove the guys crazy changing due to various illnesses across the team we made it and it was well worth it!! It was a cold, dark night when we dropped in to see Mukka on Brunswick Street but we soon warmed up with their friendly welcome and Indian inspired cocktail list. Food wise – it all sounded fantastic so we were totally open to the ‘feed me’ option – I’m not good when I have choose between food!!

One of good Indian restaurants in Melbourne. Great selection of menu , something different to normal and "Goat Curry" is a must try. Ambience and service was superb .
Theycallmemaggie
The butter chicken was very sweet, fragrant, and rich without being overwhelming. It paired beautifully with the equally fragrant and garlicky naan bread. Owner Prateek mentioned that the dish almost didn’t make the menu given that it’s one of those ‘overdone’ dishes but they ended up making the right call to include it; it’s a popular dish for a reason and Mukka’s take is the best butter chickens I’ve tasted.

Visited during a relatively quiet Sunday afternoon though by no means was I planning a light lunch. Ordered the single serve butter chicken which comes with butter chicken (duh), rice and cucumber salad. Also ordered a serve of the Tibetan momo dumplings and a side of the garlic naan. The dumplings were OK as was the garlic naan. The butter chicken however was sensational - best version I've had. So many interesting dishes on their menu, I will definitely be back.

Good quality Indian food, had the butter chicken, lamb saag, chic tikka masala, naan, garlic naan, momos, kulfi falooda. Everything was great. Disappointed they couldn't do laacha paratha seeing that it usually is a staple item from the tandoori breads. Nevertheless food was tasty.

Lovely service<br/>Awesome food <br/>Generous portion<br/>Authentic taste<br/>We had eggplant dosa, momo, lamb briyani and kulfi and every dishes were spot on! Will definitely be back!<br/>

Was our first visit to Mukka and we absolutely loved it! I haven't ever had too many Indian dishes but this place had made me wanting to come back for more! I had the butter chicken while my partner had the Chicken Tikka Masala. We could not stop eating them but we were just so full. The Naan was second to none, I could seriously eat it all day everyday! Will definitley be back! Service was great too! Thanks for a great experience!

The food here is top class. An extremely good menu, definitely one of the best Indian meals I have ever eaten. I would recommend the paneer, the Nepalese dumplings, the chat potatoes and the goat curry. I will be returning to sample the rest of the menu!
Tammy
Really enjoyed the food here and the service was great. The butter chicken tasted traditional and the paneer entree was amazing. Only let down was how close the tables were. Would also benefit from having a larger menu.

Excellent Indian restaurant nestled amongst busy Brunswick St. I came here with my wife on quite a busy Saturday night and although the food did take a while to arrive it was well worth the wait! My wife and I shared a classic dosa for entree (which isn't easy to find at Indian restaurants and was delicious) followed by the Lamb Byriani for main. Absolutely brilliant. Will be back.

We went there for a lunch from work. The service here is pretty nice but I must say that is didn't find the food as tasty or exceptional as some of the reviewers have mentioned. This might be the difference between an Indian tasting Indian food vs non Indians and there can be a definite difference in the expectations of taste. <br/><br/>I had lamb biriyani. It didn't feel it was dum biriyani, but it did have enough of lamb and it didn't taste any bad either. I would think it was okay but not quite the biriyani that I would have hoped for.<br/><br/>My other Indian friend took butter chicken and he felt it was a tad too sweet, he being from Delhi he knows what butter chicken is. Our Spanish friend was okay. Food was good for him as he has no idea on the authenticity of taste.<br/><br/>We did have a good time, but I am afraid I didn't find the place as exceptional as has been mentioned.

Amazing food in a great environment! Some of the best Indian I have ever eaten, can't wait to try everything on the menu. Great addition to the Brunswick street strip!

Unbelievable vegan Indian! CANNOT recommend Mukka enough! So many vegan options that are all amazing and all clearly marked on the menu. Even a banquet! As a vegan, I frequent all the well known spots, but I can without a doubt say that this is the best, highest quality vegan in Melbourne. <br/><br/>Service is fantastic, owners are lovely and it's a beautiful spot!<br/>Flock vegans flock!

Firstly I am not overly well versed in the Indian cuisine, I have had both good and bad experiences but I truly have not tried enough to know what's out there around Melbourne. <br/><br/>Ordered butter chicken and the spinach/lamb curry for a takeaway feed last night with some garlic nan bread. I was told 40minuets and it should be ready, I arrived 40 minuets on the dot as I was hungry AF only to be left waiting another 20 minuets. Must admit I was a little "Hangry" about the situation. But once getting the food home and in my belly I found it was probably worth the wait as it was delicious. Portion sizing was perfect for my girlfriend and I. <br/><br/>If you make me wait 20 mins longer than advised for a take away and I am still more than happy to come back you're chef has done something right! Would recommend to anyone with a hankering for Indian.

The night drew me into a vortex of excitement, ambient sounds of Brunswick street taunted my ear canals and the last beams of city light slowly carved its way through to my eyes retina reminding me of misspent youth, reminiscing the times I was a former tenant of the inner west. I was glad and enthusiastic to make my sojourn towards the warm beating heart of Mukka Indian Restaurant, for tonight I would dine like a Pasha.

I recently went to mukka for a friends birthday after seeing all the vibrant photos on Instagram! We all went along with the $30 vegetarian banquet, such good value, the food didn't seem to stop and it even included dessert. I love everything with paneer so I was a big fan of the mattar paneer curry! For a pretty relaxed and small restaurant, they certainly know what they are doing! Great place to check out if you're near by!

Sadly the tandoor was broken on the day we went but the restaurant was nice to call us before and give us a heads up. The staff were very friendly.<br/>The goat curry was delicious! Super tender and falling off the bone. The mango lassi was yummy too. The chat items were very nice and authentic. The veggie dishes- chickpea and spinach and the dal was very dry and gluggy. So that could use some improvement. The dessert falooda was way too sweet and the basil seeds were all clumped together. Overall nice place and will definitely be back to try when the tandoor is working again!

As a certified novice in Indian cuisine and an avid carnivore I really didn't know what to expect when I dined at Mukka for a friend's birthday the other night. However, much to my surprise I was incredibly impressed. Not only is this humble little restaurant vibrant and comfortable but it is great value and the food is utterly delicious. We opted for the $30 vegetarian banquet and were all absolutely bursting at the seems by the end. Whilst all the food was fragrant and punchy with a nice kick of spice my personal highlights included the bhel puri and the matar paneer curry. Both a must order!

Great place to have Indian food in Melbourne . Goat curry is awesome . The Mango Lassi was rather bland , needed extra sugar to enhance the taste . Adding raw cut onion rings with Starters or main dish can enhance the whole experience . Definitely worth the experience

This place is very quickly becoming a favourite of mine.<br/><br/>Well positioned on the very trendy Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, Mukka offers great authentic northern Indian cuisine with cocktails, adding a very Melbourne flavour.  <br/><br/>Great food, a must try!

Firstly the staff were very friendly... Then comes down to food which was upto the par for me...
Anisa Ornella
I love the atmosphere of this place, so nice, humble and colorful. And i tried their butter chicken.. Lord, it was the best i've ever had! Def will come back for this. Then, we also had their other dishes, which were also amazing especially the goat curry. <br/>But seriously, dont u miss that butter chicken if u come here, cos it's mind blowing

I had previously dined here before and thought to try their takeaway so my review is based on this. My partner and I ordered two mains, Spicy Lamb chops and Aloo Baingan. We had two lamb chops and half. The chops were a bit too spicy but combined with the tangy coriander chutney and the small salad it was very tasty. The Aloo Baingan was delicious and had a great flavour – very yummy vegetarian dish! Would highly recommend takeaway if you have no time to dine in.
Rachel
Service was friendly. Food was nice for those who like hot food, I should've asked for mild, but as the option wasn't given I didn't think about it. Loud happy atmosphere.<br/>Not terribly suitable for my mother in law she was out of her comfort zone as it seemed more like a street cafe than a quiet restaurant, not that she complained.<br/>Good experience okay food. One great thing is they give you takeaway containers for leftover food.
WhenFoodMeetsFiona
Ordered:<br/>- Chicken Tikka<br/>- Matar Paneer<br/>- Plain Naan<br/>- Steamed Basmati Rice<br/><br/>The restaurant itself is set up in a small yet beautiful space - I love how they've incorporated the colours into the restaurant (I instantly felt happy walking in). The dishes were delicious and definitely my favourite Indian restaurant by far. We didn't moderate the spice level and its was still okay for me (I don't have a high tolerance for spicy food). Would highly recommend and I'm already planning to come back to try their other stuff! <br/>

Wow wow wow. I lived in the UK for roughly 12 years and during the entire time I may have had two curry dishes which compare favourably to the food at this place. The curry is very well balanced and seasoned. There is just so much depth to the food. It's definitely made by people who care about flavour and balance. Both my wife and I loved it and can't wait to go back! We also had the lassi which was delicious. A great way to complete a superb meal.
Mathew Stokes
We came tonight to mukka and we loved it The service was very good.<br/>The design was awsome. And the food was top shelf. The butter chicken is a must aswell as the cocktail jug. Highly recommend to everyone.<br/>
Iris Myandowski
I mean it's perfectly fine and certainly seems very clean but really don't we all enjoy more of a kick to Indian food? Otherwise why would we be eating Indian food if not for the spice?
Quynh
Went here a couple months ago and the food was delicious! Cute set up on Brunswick St. He recommended us the bhel puri which was puffed rice and the flavour was so unique, it was very enjoyable. Would definitely be coming back again soon to try some other dishes.
AFREEN SAGHEER
Very disappointing.. came all the way from CBD expecting it to be as per the reviews. Dear Mr. Cook, whoever you are, please understand this is not how the authentic Indian food tastes. Please familiarize yourself with Indian food before selling it to people. Price is high and quantity is too less compared to the price. And the most funny part, the lamb dum biryani here tasted like they have mixed a lamb curry with basmati rice. Guys please first understand what dum biryani is. I would never visit and never ever recommend this place to anyone. It doesnt deserve a single star too but that's the least criteria to review I suppose. Spoilt my sunday!
Karina Mirchandani
This place has the best Butter Chicken in Melbourne. Started with the Spicy Lamb Chops that I'd recommend to anyone dining there. For our main course we ordered the Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka & Mutter Paneer and loved the flavours in each of these. Definitely going back!
Sgchaplin
We went to the restaurant with high expectations and we were not disappointed. <br/><br/>The food was amazing, all the beautiful spices from all over India caused our tastebuds to go crazy. <br/><br/>The Indian summer cocktail wet our taste buds and was such a refreshing drink for a hot summer day.<br/><br/>The owners did a amazing job with the decor and furnishings and this creates such a vibrant atmosphere.<br/><br/>Well done guys the restaurant rocks and the Indian food is the best of have tasted in a long time.<br/><br/>Our favourite dishes were the lamb and goat, I personally enjoyed the butter chicken.<br/><br/>Our party of 4 really enjoyed our night out at "Mukka"
The Red Dress Melbourne
Easily some of the best Indian food going around at the moment in Melbourne. <br/><br/>Two brothers behind Mukka are bringing their mother's traditional Indian recipes to life - and we say, it's one place you have to try.<br/><br/>If you haven't been to India, Mukka will take you there with their food that is bursting with flavour, colour, tradition and family inspiration. The guys wanted to bring you what they remember growing up and eating with their family and on the streets of New Delhi - and they've got it in the bag.<br/><br/>What did we try?<br/>• Samosa<br/>• Tandoori mushrooms<br/>• Spicy Lamb chops<br/>• Smokey Eggplant and pea dosa<br/>• Slow cooked goat curry (standout!!)<br/>• Garlic Naan<br/>• Mango Lassi<br/>And the Bombay Falooda Kulfi!<br/><br/>The atmosphere, decor and service is unquestionably great. But we all know it comes down to food and Mukka will have you coming back for more!
Andy Trancao
This might sound absurd to some, but for the first time in my life last night i had my first Indian cuisine experience. <br/><br/>If you're looking for a great Indian restaurant then look no further. <br/><br/>We went to Mukka in Fitzroy on Brunswick St, really cool looking interior, the first thing I noticed was the really cool art work on the walls, mad vibes.<br/><br/>Because I've never had Indian before, I had no idea what to order so I let the owner Prateek, choose for me. <br/><br/>We had garlic naan, butter chicken, slow cooked goat curry, some sort of Indian dumpling and a salad. (I can't remember the names of those) <br/><br/>The food came out so quick, within the 10 minutes we ordered, which was fantastic because I was getting hangry. The food tasted so amazing, so many flavours, the garlic naan and the curry sauces together was so bomb that I rekon I could eat it for the rest of my life srs.

Hands down the best Indian I've ever had!! The food here is absolutely amazing. Don't bother looking further down Brunswick street, Mukka is where you need to go. We've been several times (and had takeaway delivered) and been thoroughly impressed every single time. To be honest I didn't know that Indian could be this tasty.<br/><br/>The butter chicken is miles better than any curry I've had, the chicken is great quality and the sauce so so tasty! The aloo chat and bhel puri are so flavoursome I can't even begin to imagine all the spices that go into it. And the Tibetian Momos are a flavour sensation. Don't forget the pea rice it is amazing with the butter chicken. <br/><br/>The place is fitted out really nicely and the staff are always very friendly. Do yourself a favour and go and enjoy some really tasty and extremely well priced food!!
Nicolas Spadaccini
I really loved this place. The people, the atmosphere and the food all worked well. The goat curry was the best I've ever had! <br/><br/>Looking forward to going back.

Ambience - 9/10<br/>Food - 8/10<br/>Staff - 8/10<br/>Waiting time - 5.5/10<br/>Value for money - 6.5/10<br/><br/>For an Indian restaurant with a difference you ought to pay this contemporary little place in midst of fitzroy food hub a visit. The location, interiors and decor give this joint a fabulous vibrance. Its nothing like a usual indian eatery and thats what sets it apart. Although the seating may get you a tad bit crowded at first but don't let that get to you cause the mouthwatering aroma of indian curries and finally the food itself pretty much makes up for this. The waiting time was a bit longer than expected which left us drooling for quite a bit but once our order arrived with a pot of butter chicken tandoori rotis and garlic naans, we knew we made the right choice! They even have some desi style cocktails up the counter if you'd like and the starters look promising too. Although their prices do lean towards the higher side but its a good place to dig in once in a while. Wishing the owners good luck! :)<br/><br/><br/><br/>

This place is easily the best Indian I've eaten and I should be biased with an Indian family background. Sure it's not cheap, but why pay $13 for 3 pieces of chicken in wet curry when you could pay $18 for a deliciously thick and tasty curry from Mukka? Note to owners: as long as you guys keep the same recipe and passion for food I'll keep coming back! 🎩

My friend and I ordered 4 different things to share and each and every one of the dishes were great. The eggplant dosa was crispy and came with delicious coconut chutney and Dahl. The momo were tasty as was the chaat. The stand out for me was the Bahl Puri- sweet, salty, crunchy, fresh. All the things! To top it off we also had the jug of gingerbeer, vodka, pomegranate and lime drink. <br/><br/>Left there full and happy and for only $30 each. Would happily recommend this new Brunswick street restaurant to anyone that wants to listen. Service was great too! Also had great music playing. Yay Mukka!
Erin
Excited about the addition of an Indian restaurant in Brunswick Street. On the plus side, flavours are good, decor nice. On the down side, just too expensive for the serving sizes. Could only order 'single' served of rice which was both pricey and way too small. Frustratingly, when we ordered the waiter seemed unable to tell us whether one rice serve would suffice for two curries - it didn't even come close.<br/><br/>That said, the place is relative new and has potential, and service is otherwise good. My advice: keep up the flavours, get s little less stingy on the servings of the curries and rice and this place will do okay.
Melbourne Foodie Finds
On Monday I had the pleasure of heading to Mukka in<br/>Brunswick to give their menu a try, and boy was I impressed. I either have not<br/>being eating Indian food properly in my life prior to this, or Mukka is<br/>completely and utterly amazing. I think we will go with the latter.<br/><br/><br/>Tucked away on the busy Brunswick Street, Mukka is a fresh<br/>and trendy new addition to the strip. With eye catching graffiti wall art,<br/>gorgeous succulents floating around and traditionally decorated Indian tableware,<br/>Mukka is definitely inviting. They also have a VERY open kitchen, you can<br/>pretty much see everything that is going on in there which I absolutely love. For<br/>a restaurant that has only been open for 2 months, I was impressed by how<br/>packed it was by 7pm. <br/>To begin, mum and I got a Lassi each. What a perfect match<br/>for Indian food! The milk helped to cool down our mouths for the feast we were<br/>about to devour. Mum had the mango with pistachios and coconut rum and I had<br/>the rose and cinnamon with vodka. <br/>Next, we had the ‘Bhel Puri’, which is cold, crunchy and<br/>light. It is made from puffed rice, Bombay mix and mylon sec tossed with pomegranate,<br/>tomato, onion, tamarind and mint. Probably one of the most refreshing, textual<br/>heavens I have ever tasted, this is a must.<br/><br/>Then, we tried the Tibetan Momos, which are dumplings which<br/>originated up high in the moutains, filled with finely chopped cabbage and<br/>potato, served with a chilli sauce. This were incredible too.<br/><br/><br/>Now on to the curries. We couldn’t make up our minds between<br/>the butter chicken (my fav) and the goat curry. So, we got both, of course!!<br/>The butter chicken – out of this world, best I have ever tasted. Yep. I said<br/>it. Goat – to my surprise it came in very close to the BC. Sort of like lamb<br/>but less intense, definitely worth a try if you are game. It is slowly cooked<br/>for a minimum of 4 hours in a tomato and onion gravy to ensure the goat is<br/>cooked until the meat falls off the bone. It is then garnished with fresh coriander.<br/>YUM. With this we got the garlic nan (duh) which was bloody amazing too. So<br/>good that I wanted to take it home and toast it up for breakfast.<br/><br/> <br/>Mukka is the perfect addition to the Brunswick Street strip<br/>and I cannot wait to go back for more!

I absolutely loved the food here! It was not only affordable but extremely flavour filled. I think that the atmosphere of the restaurant is really chill they have a urban take on such a traditional cuisine which I found very different and interesting. It's not your typical Indian restaurant it's really different and unique I would definitely recommend it if you want to have an amazing meal for an affordable price.

Really clean, fresh Indian in a funky little restaurant, the staff were friendly and there was great service too! Will be back and definitely recommend it to others

On the hunt for Indian food, we stumbled upon Mukka. The service was outstanding, warm and inviting. I am extremely fussy with my Indian food- and Mukka did not disappoint! We tried their new banquet style menu and the food was delicious- only problem was there was too much! The chicken tikka was perfect and lamb chop delicious. A great selection of curries followed and all were amazing. Would recommend this restaurant and will definitely be coming back! Thanks for a great dining experience!

I've been searching for a good Indian place all over Fitzroy and finally came across Mukka. As always checked out the reviews on Zomato first before heading over on boxing day. Was pleasantly surprised by the decor of the place, the place has a rustic but calm Indian vibe to it. They had two menus on offer for lunch, a lunch menu and a regular menu. I decided to go for the reguakr menu and got the prawns for starter and then opted for the single serve butter chicken and garlic naan for main course. I thought the masala on the prawns could have been a little bit more spicy but the butter chicken and the naan were very good. The chicken was nicely cooked and the masala was rich! I tried the Jaipur Indian Pale Ale which was on the menu and it didn't dissapoint. The staff was very courteous and the service was great. I personally thought the food was really good but a bit over priced. I totally recommend this place and will visit again for sure!
Carolyn Lu
Restaurant has a modern rustic look to it, it is very refreshing and different from the traditional Indian restaurants. Food was fantastic and great service there's nothing for me to complain about! Definitely coming back for the Lamb Spinach curry!
The Frugal Cats
After reading the amazing online reviews for this place, I was really looking forward to tonight's dinner. Mukka is not your traditional Indian restaurant with it's funky yet warm and inviting decor. Service was warm, attentive, friendly and polite. We went for the aloo chaat, the eggplant dosa and the single serve kerala fish fillet. Our aloo chat was forgotten. The dhal and chutney that came with the eggplant stuffed dosa was delicious. The dosa itself was quite oily though. The fish fillet was cooked to perfection and salad that accompanied it was light and refreshing. However, the complimentary pappadums were drenched in oil and sitting in a puddle of oil. Staff was very apologetic about our forgotten entrees and we'll definitely be back to give them a second chance :3

Since I moved to Melbourne over 4 years ago, I have tried and failed to find a decent butter chicken—until now. Mukka hits it out of the park.  A lot of people think that butter chicken is a so-so dish, but that's because many restaurants do it poorly.  Mukka does butter chicken with complexity and balance that is so moreish I found it hard to put my roti down. <br/><br/>Their single-serve meals are amazing value for money—the butter chicken single-serve comes with a whole roti, and a cucumber salad that is perfect for one person (especially when accompanied by a Hawkers IPA!) and incredible value-for-money at $20. My vegan partner was equally wowed by her single-serve meal—eggplant curry with a massively flavoursome dahl, mango chutney and roti; again, amazing value-for-money at $15 and a perfect serving size. In fact, our meals were a little too much for one person! :D<br/><br/>To top all this off, the service was incredibly friendly and warm, and the ambiance was wonderful—modern yet rustic, and somehow not pretentious. You could take friends here and they would be impressed by the quality, and how low-key but beautiful the place looks. <br/><br/>Been searching Melbourne for good Indian? Go here.

Lovely new find. Didn't even realise it was the opening week until we came to the register. Free henna for our friend. Good food. If they keep up this quality we will be back,

Excellent ambience, outstanding service, and mouth-watering delicacies. I would say it's one of the best Indian restaurants in Melbourne. Their chicken tikka, aloo chaat, paneer mutter and garlic naan is to die for. Their idea of 'lassi mixed with rum' is purely innovative. Looking forward to trying out the other items in the menu on my next visit!<br/>Keep up the good work, mukka team.
George
Excellent street food restaurant with fresh, flavoursome and zesty options that you won't find in your typical neighbourhood restaurants. The nan is outstanding - fresh, light and buttery.
Minh Thuy Le
Mukka pronounced as “moo-ka” is a new refreshing addition to Fitzroy on Brunswick St. The Indian restaurant offers a variety of traditional curries, tandoori grills and Indian street food but not as you know it. With a strong emphasis on using fresh ingredients, homemade ground spices and chutneys, Mukka is focused in on creating a new and modern take on what would be considered a traditional Indian dining experience.
Brenton Woods
Equal to the best Indian food I have had. I find Indian food can be quite hit and miss (and had almost given up on Indian restaurants in Melbourne) until our friend convinced us to come to Mukka last night. The food is incredible! We had a large selection from the menu and shared between the 3 of us, every dish was amazing! Incredible flavours! I'm back to loving Indian food, thanks Mukka! See you again soon!
Sweet And Sour Fork
The Classic Dosa ($12.5) is a must-try. Cooked evenly to a burnished gold, every inch of the crepe was simultaneously crisp yet soft and chewy. We tore pieces off with our hands and dunked them in the thick, creamy daal, scooping the soft chunks of vegetables into our mouths. Or at least we did, until we hit the pocket of curried potatoes. Cooked to fluffy, airy perfection, the spicy potatoes combined fantastically with the coconut chutney for a hint of nutty sweetness.
Tarun Bajaj
This is such a nice and homely place, felt the service was so genuine and the food was exceptionally well prepared. I just loved the Chicken tikka! It seems to be a new funky place, laid back and has a Fitzroy vibe. The food is very authentic and has a traditional Indian feeling to the actual food. It reminds me of street food from Delhi! Will recommend this place to anyone. I like to be a regular there. <br/><br/>Another amazing experience at Mukka! Love your cocktails!
Angela Perry-Prasad
Great Indian favorites and street food. Reminds me of India. Really yummy and great prices. We stumbled on it by chance one night but will be coming back. Great Indian hospitality too. Thank you

Best Butter Chicken in the Southern Hemisphere! Beautiful waitstaff, with great service! Must visit on Brunswick St! <br/><br/>Also has vegetarian and vegan options which are fab!!!
Scott Willis
The minute you step in the door, this place is funky, modern and fun, the service is great, very friendly and helpful and the food, well, after I finally decided what to have (because I really wanted to try everything!), my mouth just had one big party.  Excellent all round and will definitely be back with friends, highly recommended.<br/>Love your work Mukka!
Alisia
I might have discovered a new Indian favourite!! Mukka is a great little restaurant owned by two brothers and their mother, whose home-style recipes feature on the succinct but delicious menu. Focusing on street food, grill and traditional Indian sharing dishes, the food absolutely lives up to its claim of simple, real and fresh. There were no overly oily curries in sight and the salads were beautifully fresh and flavoursome. Stand out dishes were the Bhel Puri and the Slow Cooked Goat Curry. Looking forward to going back soon!
Janice Lee
Had a wonderful dining experience at Mukka, we were greeted by friendly faces and was recommended some delicious entrees to start off with. Love the vibe of the place, it was cozy and there was a buzz of excitement in the place. We had the Bhel Puri,Tibetian Momo's, Smokey Eggplant and Pea Dosa, Spicy Lamb chops and Pav Bhaji, Almost Mango Lassi - they were all delicious!! Highly recommend this place! We will be back for sure!
Andy C
Great little Indian gem! Funky fit out and fantastic flavours . Can't wait to go back. Their mango lassi is to die for. Don't understand why the rating is so low.
Minda Barley
A newcomer to the Brunswick Street this little place caught my attention one evening when I was walking home from ballet class. Cheerful and bright with an appetising menu it made it immediately on to my must do list and some positive reviews compounded this. So we found ourselves there on Friday evening and it was buzzy but lucky for us a couple were just finishing up so a quick tidy of the table by a very obliging waiter meant we were in!
Eloise Grillzoid
Really amazing food, friendly and hospitable service and plenty of tasty vegan options. Highly recommended! The Bhel Phuri was one of the best things I've ever eaten :)
Cat
Yum! So many VG options.<br/>Indian/contemporary dining done best. The food was actually perfect, so much flavour but done delicately I would say. The service was quick and lovely too. I'm craving the crepe and dumplings with all the chutneys.. 😭<br/><br/>Must try!
Matt Morris
Mukka is a special and unique addition to Fitzroy, and worth the visit for the beautiful delicate and fluffy naan bread alone. <br/><br/>The marinated spicy lamb chops are moreishly tasty and pair beautifully with the deliciously hoppy Jaipur Pale Ale and the fresh salad really rounded it out.<br/><br/>Its refreshing to have a point of difference to both Fitzroy and Indian Food. No more stodgy & dense dishes that sit on your gut for days, everything I ate at Mukka was refreshing, zesty and left me simultaneously satisfied and wanting more. <br/><br/>The family and I will definitely be returning soon.
Raag Bhatia
I'm Indian, have travelled India extensively and have sampled great Indian food from my mother's cooking, to the legendary Bukhara in Delhi, to a big range of places in Melbourne. Mukka is one of my favourites!<br/><br/>Beautiful balance of flavours, generous serves, prompt and friendly service, not too heavy, great lassis, great naan... What more could you want? My new go-to place for Indian food in Melbourne.
Chase Goodwin
Really great food. The lassi's are amazing, portion side was spot on, and the food leaves you feeling full and satisfied. The dishes were tasty and fresh. Would def go back. <br/><br/>The only complaint: I couldn't finish the last of the delicious buttery garlic naan; my stomach isn't big enough.
Shwetha Shankar
Wonderful ambience, amazing food and great staff! What more could one ask for? Enjoyed the aloo chaat, rose vodka lassi and vibrant colours around. One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to in Melbourne :) Good luck to the Mukka gang! I'll be coming in for more...
Joseph Walton
Beautiful, fresh food with vibrant flavours. Impressive variety of dishes with something for everyone. Really friendly staff with warm and welcoming service. The lamb chops are to die for.
Scott Lester
I enjoy Indian food as a cuisine and can honestly say I have now had the freshest, most delicious Indian food ever. Mukka was sensational.<br/><br/>I recommend trying the Bhel Puri ,Lamb Biryani & Tibitian Momos dumplings (My favourite menu item )<br/><br/>Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff A+++++Check it out.
Nicole
Lovely food, brilliant atmosphere and great staff. The freshly renovated room, which is stylishly decorated, makes an ideal location to enjoy the fresh and delicious Indian cuisine. I highly recommend a visit to Mukka!
Kirk Pereira
Hands down the Best Indian Restaurant I've eaten at in Melbourne. Fresh, delicious and great friendly service. Recommend the Chicken Tikka, the mango lassi and kulfi for desert.
Rhys DT
Fantastic restaurant by two great guys, with all the class and none of the fuss. All their dishes are made from scratch and the menu is all killer, no filler. <br/><br/>I would recommend their slow-cooked goat curry (tender, fall-off-the-bone goodness) and their tandoori chicken ('nuff said). For vegetarians I'd highly recommend their dosas (stuffed indian crepes), which tend to get overlooked in Indian cuisine but in Mukka's case highly exceeded my expectations - the right balance of flavours and a very filling meal in itself. Not forgetting, saag paneer (stewed spinach with cheese) is one of my favourite Indian dishes, and Mukka's is absolutely heavenly. What Mukka does especially well in are their sauces and chutneys, which are packed with complex, nuanced flavours.<br/><br/>Ambience-wise the theme is somewhere between casual dining and modern chic - which is great if you can't decide what to wear for dinner that night. Great place. The food, the ambience and the people, adds up to a memorable experience. I tried chicken tikka masala with the naan bread. And my oh my, the naan bread is so soft and delicious, it's something to die for. No matter what you order, get the naan bread with it. You'll thank me. The desserts are also amazing, especially the kulfi ice cream falooda with rose syrup. You'll think the heaven is right here on earth. The service is great too. Expect to strike up a conversation with the owner if he's around. You don't get that in any other Indian restaurant. If you're around Brunswick st Fitzroy, and feel like Indian, this is the place to go. .

Awesome funky Brunswick/ Fitzroy style decor, soon to be the new iconic pad. Caring style of service, maintaining the authenticity of the food from various regions of India.Lots of attention to detail, being a vegetarian loved the crispy dosa with the traditional coconut chutney, mango cooler with all the pistachios and colourful and fresh bhelpuri.

Best Eggplant Dosa I've ever had!<br/><br/>Mukka is my new favourite restaurant.<br/>At the entrance is a beautiful indian-style restaurant which is very welcoming.<br/>My dinner always starts with a freshly made Mango-Lassi, followed by a cool and crispy Bhel Puri as an entre and then the Eggplant Dosa with Dal Tadka and a Coconut Chutney that you need to try! <br/>My vegan friends loved the menu and we'll be back soon.

Upon entering  Mukka, Jacqui and I were greeted warmly. Mukka is all about the food - served proudly by friendly attractive waitstaff. Honoring the tradition of Indian spices and cooking techniques from street food to tandoori grill I noticed a refreshingly large range of options for vegans, vegetarians and carnivores (as my friends all have very specific dietary requirements). My favourite dish is freshly made cabbage and potato dumplings called tibitian momos. I could literally overdose on them! I'd recommend the smoked eggplant and pea dosas -served with sambar dal and coconut chutney. The Chicken Tikki (cooked in a  Tandoor oven) was divine as was the freshly made mango lassi - with pistachio with a shot of coconut rum (optional). So yummy.

Wow! This is such a great restaurant! This is not at all what I expected for Indian food and it is SO much better than what I am used to. The food is so fresh and you can taste a variety of spices in each dish. I've had street food in India and this comes very close to that but with a much fresher taste. The curries are great too and the atmosphere is really inviting, especially on cold Melbourne days. The staff is super friendly and they really went out of their way to make it an amazing dining experience :)

Amazing Indian food, super friendly staff, very nice decor. Great vibe all round. You can really taste the careful preparation and fresh ingredients used. I had the Smoky Eggplant and Pea Dosa which was hands down the best dosa I've had in Melbourne. My partner had the Lamb Biryani which he said was delicious too. We will definitely be back to try the rest!

A relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. We had Lamb Saag and Paneer curry, with a Rose Lassi and Mango Cooler for dessert. Fantastic! Definitely returning soon.

I've been here quite a few times and the food is flavoursome and well prepared. You can definitely tell that a lot of thought has gone through in terms of developing these dishes. I love the decor and felt very comfortable with the staff. The staff were friendly and from talking to them, you can tell that they truly love what they do.
