Review Bentwood Fitzroy Cafe - Fitzroy

Simmyeats. melb
Bentwood Cafe is the perfect example of Melbourne’s fantastic cafe scene. Nestled down a side street in trendy Fitzroy, it’s no wonder this cafe is a local favourite! A solid menu which had a great selection of different options. We ordered the eggs benny, braised lamb and hot cakes which presented and tasted beautiful. Coffees were spot on and a special shout out to the barista for the cute latte art! Decor is beautiful and service incredible, we had a great time.

Brunch like never before @bentwoodfitzroy where the cozy and charming ambiance with great brunch food will bring you here again and again. We had: Eggs Benny, that comes with pulled braised beef brisket, chipotle hollandaise, poached eggs, sweet potato fries, chives, cornbread waffles. All the perfectly cooked and picked ingredients to make this a sensational yet a classic Benedict’s dish with lots and lots of amazing flavours. Hence you definitely need to must try, that beef brisket is the key to this entire dish being so tempting and addictive. Prawn and Kimchi Omelette, need a bit of spiciness this winter, then definitely try this, a beautiful combination of kimchi braised prawns inside an omelette with kewpie Mayo, beans sprouts, Asian salad, coriander, chilli and fried shallots, a very Asian take of this lovely breakfast/brunch dish. Loved it, especially because kimchi makes everything so flavourful. Churro waffles, served with hot cocoa fudge sauce, vanilla icecream, salted caramel and strawberries, a very refreshing and delicious sweet breakfast/brunch dish that’s kids gonna love it because of all the fresh ingredients in it and the churro waffles are super crisp and fluffy from the inside. Mango smoothie and peanut butter smoothie, both were equally refreshing and very filling. Matcha latte, so satisfying to drink, must try for matcha lovers. The prices might be slightly steep but then again you only expect to get quality and premium ingredients in your food. Also not to mention, the serving sizes are quite generous considering the price. And the service is friendly and prompt and the team of staff are all very cheerful, welcoming and helpful in nature. So why not spend your Saturday morning @bentwoodfitzroy and have a sumptuous brunch or brekkie over comforting drinks/coffee/cocktails with your crew.

The coffee and vibe here is great! The food could be delicious however had to wait 40 minutes for the food and for it to come out cold is super disappointing. I’m also assuming there was a Sunday surcharge because everything was a bit more expensive than listed on the menu, almost $6 for a small latte… Also wouldn’t recommend the juices, almost $8 and not even freshly squeezed😕

I really wanted to like this place. The good: friendly staff, fantastic location, beautiful atmosphere and trendy patrons The bad: slow service, mistakes with our food order, expensive and disappointed with the overpriced coffee. Overall, I don’t think I’ll come back but perhaps Sunday brunch is just too busy, staffing is a huge issue in pretty much all melb restaurants at the moment.

Service was really slow, the presentation of the food was great but the taste…!!!! Awful! I got the hot cake and it was decorated with pavlovas which had a foul taste and smell to it that I was about to throw up!🙁 I had to take the very tiny bits of the pavlova out of my cake so that I could eat it! The bad smell was so over powering that I couldn’t stand it! I asked the staff to smell it and they took a bit of it to the kitchen and came back to me with: we couldn’t do much about it! It is what it is!🙁 my friend also ordered a waffle which was so greasy that she couldn’t finish it! All in all, the cafe is a beautiful place and the presentation of the food is spectacular, but I won’t come back and I wouldn’t recommend it!

Consistently incredible. I have been dining at Bentwood for years. I keep coming back because the food is top notch whether you go for a sweet or savoury option. Today’s breakfast didn’t disappoint

Ordered the brunch bowl leading to a very disappointing experience. Was essentially served a plate of dry and unseasoned quinoa and kale mix with literally two cherry tomatoes that had been split in four. There was next to non-existent dukkah and barely-there yoghurt(no sumac/seasoning mentioned in the menu description) painted on the plate. No dressing! One of the key ingredients -Halloumi, was miserly thrown on top and disproportionate to the tastless mountain of quinoa. Understandable that hospitality(like many other businesses) is coping it hard post-covid, I'd prefer having smaller portion of tasteful food served to me rather than a plate of mise en place. The feedback on what I was served was also not handled in the most hospitable manner with the response primarily being "this is how we make it" and " here's a cup of mustard dressing, try and see if that makes it better" The lack of attention and care was equally evident in the smashed avo that my partner ordered (the least enjoyable we have ever had!). One slice of bread split into two, burnt corners and 100 points if you can spot the feta on the dish! All for $23! Overpriced and under sized coffee though it was the only saving grace in what was the most disappointing and dissatisfaction brunch we've ever had in Fitzroy.

Arrived on Anzac Day’s noon and the place was packed. My partner booked a table in advance and we ordered two dishes. The grilled halloumi cheese, fig, mixed salad 🥗 was packed with flavour and texture. The smoked balsamic sauce and pumpkin purée enhanced the overall flavour.

No good vegan options. I had a bikini salad and it really needed the dressing that wasn't vegan. The brunch bowl that my omni partner had was bland.

Nice building/atmosphere but the food is totally over rated and totally over priced for what you get. The meals were tiny ... one slice of bread and eggs $10.50. Added some extras like mushrooms for $4 and got two tiny mushrooms (i wish i could post a picture of how pathetic my meal looked it was laughable) Asked for more bread ... which they charged me for and it took so long to arrive that the rest of my meal had gone cold. Wont be going back.

I was very annoyed at being charged a higher weekend price without them actually making this known to me or my friends. And we aren’t the first ones who they’ve done this to. Very sneaky, not impressed!

The food was delicious and beautifully presented! Staff were so attentive to details even when the cafe was completely full. Coming back again for sure X

Overall rating: 4.5<br/><br/>The architectural design and earthy tones of Bentwood cafe gave off such a calming atmosphere as we were welcomed by friendly staff. We were seated in a very spacious setting with a nice window view. <br/><br/>I must say the plating is just beautiful and everything on their menu is definitely worth trying. As we waited for our brunch, we ordered some drinks.<br/><br/>Mango smoothie was so refreshing and balanced with flavours of sweetness and tartness from the yoghurt and mango. Loved the addition of the coconut flakes, chia seeds and mint leaves! <br/><br/>House blend coffee was nicely roasted and had a smooth taste. We also had some Chai which involved having to sift the physical herbs and spices in the chai mixture. Was fun being an alchemist for a bit and was definitely aromatic but wish it was sweeter. Maybe something went wrong given our poor cooking skills! <br/><br/>Mango chicken salad (4.5/5): this was interesting yet divine to eat. Who knew mango and coconut dressing would go so well with savoury chicken and noodles. Chicken was a teeny bit dry. The soba noodles kept its nice integrity as it was soaked in the creamy salad dressing. The crispy salted flakes gave the dish a nice finish and a perfect balance of flavour and texture. <br/><br/>Chilli scrambled eggs (4/5): A beautiful vibrant dish full of flavour. The tangy yet sweet cherry tomatoes was balanced by the creaminess of the egg scramble and saltiness of the bacon. Shallots are my favourite condiment and gave the dish that needed texture. Price for just a sourdough with eggs scrambled with bacon and tomatoes could be less expensive. <br/><br/>Eggs benny (5/5): Braised beef cheek was so juicy and fatty, just melted right it in the mouth. It was seasoned perfectly, and paired well with the hollandaise sauce. The sweet potato waffles was the perfect base to create that perfect balance of flavour and texture. Its deceiving size is very filling. <br/><br/>Food: 4.5<br/>Value: 4<br/>Ambience: 5<br/>Service: 4

Ordered -<br/>Super Greens ($19) - If you are after something light and healthy, I highly recommend this dish! Perfect match of veggies and condiments as they add so much more flavours to the greens. (If you are a big eater like myself, the portion of this dish might not be enough to keep you full).<br/><br/>Eggs benny ($20)- Absolutely love the sweet potato waffles! Was a lil disappointed with the beef cheek as it was very gamey. I've tried this dish quite a while ago and it was really good. <br/><br/>Food rating: 3.8/5<br/>Service: 4.5/5<br/>Ambience: 4.5/5

Bentwood is a stunning a café located in Fitzroy.  For something light and moreish, we recommend the Sriracha baked salmon served with raw zoodles, edamame, avocado, herb dressing and fried basil. If you are after a healthy and nutrient dense truly gratifying, the california salad is a winner – I delicious amalgamation of the tender morsels of chicken surrounded by red quinoa, kidney beans, pomegranate, kale, red cabbage, sweetcorn, pepitas, carrot, walnuts, grana padano and beetroot hummus all brought together by a spiced ginger dressing.

One of the best breakfasts in Melbourne! Honestly could not fault the food and the porridge was amazing 😍

Thank you @bentwoodfitzroy for inviting me out! It was such a pleasant experience. The food was amazing!! We ordered the Granola Bowl, the Grilled Salmon, the Eggs Benny and a refreshing Mango Smoothie.<br/>The Granola Bowl was probably the best Açaí bowl I’ve ever had - I especially loved the caramelised granola and the hazelnut and bee pollen that was included.<br/>The Grilled Salmon was my least favourite out of the three. I’m not a big fan of grilled salmon as I prefer mine raw, however, grilled salmon lovers - you might want to give this dish a try!<br/>To this day, I still think about the Eggs Benny. The combination of a traditional eggs Benedict on sweet potato waffles instead of an english muffin (or sour dough) is absolutely genius 🤤<br/>Lastly, the Mango Smoothie is definitely worth the hype!! I've read many good things about it and it did not disappoint.<br/>I am definitely going back again to try out their other dishes (I already have my eyes on a few 👀)<br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Service: 3/5<br/>Ambience: 4.5

Here, I had one of the best hotcakes I’ve ever had. The sour passionfruit really balanced out what would have been a very sweet dish. I was able to easily consume every last bite which I can’t say for many hot cakes/ pancakes! Would definitely recommend 😋

Amazing Ambience, Amazing Attendants, Amazing Coffee, Amazing Hot Chocolate, Amazing Scrambled Eggs with Rosti, Amazing Grilled Salmon <br/><br/>Amazing Value for Money <br/><br/>Decent Choice for Vegans and Vegetarians.<br/><br/>Definitely returning

Thoroughly disappointing meal at a terribly overhyped restaurant. The sweet potato waffle - a distinguishing feature of the eggs benny - was a tough, flavourless amalgamation of churned carbohydrate, soggy under a meagre dribble of plain overstewed beef, used to seat a poached egg, which was, well, a poached egg; at least that I cannot detract from. The hot cakes on the other hand were equally stale and lacklustre. The meringue on top lacked crisp, and the hot cakes themselves took a stern force to cut through and relied on the raspberry and passionfruit sauce to make it remotely edible. Above all that, unexpected fees added to an already overpriced bill, at a restaurant we had to queue for.

Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: Fresh, Amazing food and beautiful interior. <br/>🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I enjoyed everything about this café – from the vibes, to the service and the food. I tried the grilled salmon dish and it was cooked perfectly, I liked that it was placed on a pool of zoodles which were flavoured really well and was healthy too. The hotcakes are always my go to – always so delicious and presented well. I love that they add crushed meringues on top!<br/>The eggs benny is another winner of this place – it comes with the most well cooked beef cheeks that was really flavourful and is covered by a layer of delicious hollandaise on sweet potato waffles! Now that was a handful to even type out! <br/>I opted for a mango smoothie and it was delicious – everything I need especially during summer. A Winner. <br/>🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: You might need to wait for a table if you ever go in during peak hours of the weekend – but luckily theres plenty of seating and it is usually fine. 🥇Lizzie rates overall: Love this place so much and it is exactly what Melbourne brunch should be like – chilled and good vibes.

We ordered the chilli scrambled eggs, smashed avocado and a vanilla milkshake. Food was bland and boring. Milkshake was probably the worst one I’ve ever had. Extremely overpriced. Won’t be coming back

Bentwood still remains to be a favourite of mine - their terracotta interior is unlike any other, they consistently deliver amazing dishes on their menu and service is always on point. Can’t go wrong with their salmon zucchini noodles, eggs benny, Nutella dessert and bowls. This time I didn’t order their delicious smoothies, but went for a Bloody Mary, so good!

On a hot melbourne morning, we trekked down to Brentwood.<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>🍳 Eggs Benny: braised beef cheek, watercress, poached eggs, jalapeno hollandaise on sweet potato waffles ($20.00)<br/>+ mushroom ($3.50)<br/>+ halloumi ($5.00)<br/><br/>Review:<br/>Brentwood's interpretation of the classic eggs benny was a good one. Jalapeno hollandaise added a little bit of heat, sweet potato waffles added a level of sweetness, beef cheek was hearty and the poached eggs had a factor of creaminess. With these elements, it was a well rounded dish.<br/>The mushrooms were deliciously juicy and flavourful, while the halloumi gave this dish more of a salty punch. Adding these 2 elements definitely made it more enjoyable for me!<br/><br/>Service is incredibly packed on a weekend. I would caution about a 25 minute wait time for a table inside if you're in brunch peak hour.<br/>What left a bitter taste in my mouth was their 10% surcharge on the weekend... with no split bills. It seems a little high handed to pass these surcharges on to the customer imo - when I haven't seen this done anywhere else.

Wood definitely come back to ‘Bentwood’ 😍😍😍 what an incredible place to sit, eat and enjoy 😘💜💙 The menu has a wide variety a wonderful dishes to suit sweet or savoury taste buds 🥰 will definitely come back soon to get my hands on those hotcakes again 🤩🥳

Came here for a weekend brunch. This place has been on my brunch bucket list. <br/><br/>With a spacious indoor and small outdoor seating in front of the restaurant. <br/><br/>We had... <br/><br/>Eggs Benny - The braised beef cheeks was delciious however the benny sauce was very thin. The potato waffles were delicious and balanced out the flavours. <br/><br/>Brunch bowl (with salmon) - We were impressed with this salad and it was refreshing and tasty. The extra salmon really completed the meal.<br/><br/>Hotcakes - one of our favourites! From the fruit to the meringue the dish was very light and summery. The flavours were refreshing.

We loved it here! Cute and trendy — the space feels cosy and inviting, even though it’s quite spacious. The staff were helpful and friendly.<br/><br/>The food was heavenly! We had the hotcakes and porridge with a coffee and orange juice and couldn’t fault any of it! The flavours in the porridge were really yummy together and my partner absolutely loved the hotcakes too. It was also great to see there was so many vegan options available.<br/><br/>Would recommend booking for busier times but definitely pop it on your list of places to try in Melbourne!

This is such a great venue tucked away in the inner Fitzroy streets.<br/>Although this is a more frequented cafe on a Sunday afternoon, whether the Team is busy or relaxed towards the end of the day, they are always on point, greeting with a smile and the kitchen produce a fantastic range of healthy eats to tantalising sweets (the Nutella Crumpets and Hotcakes are a must).<br/>The Super Greens are always snap fresh and delicious!<br/>From the Coffee bar, their baristas are great and if you have special requests, their always happy to help.<br/>See you next week!
Gut The Crap
Had such a blast visiting the amazing Bentwood! Had heard such amazing things and it completely lived up to expectations! It was the perfect way to start off my week 😄<br/><br/>The staff are really friendly and were really helpful on arrival. We decided to move seats a few times (as us foodies do) and that was no trouble at all for them. <br/><br/>Absolutely love the fit out and look of this place. I don’t usually take photos of the outside of the building but this time around I just had to! <br/><br/>The food was delicious; cannot fault any of it. The kale in the greens bowl was cooked perfectly..not chewy at all and the flavours throughout were absolutely spot on. I’m going to go as far as to say it’s the best greens bowl I’ve ever had! And the porridge...the porridge was just out of this world amazing! I don’t care how hot the weather gets this summer you have to try this dish!! <br/><br/>Can’t wait to head back and try out the granola bowl with acai - that definitely has my name written all over it too!

We loved our visit to Bentwood Fitzroy!<br/>They do the most delicious grilled salmon with zucchini zoodles! We enjoyed every single bite!<br/>The super greens were also very good if you want something healthy and not too heavy!<br/>Lastly, don’t forget to finish your meal with their nutella crumpets - if you’re a fan of nutella then definitely get this!<br/>They do lots of great drinks as well, we ordered their coconut drink and mango smoothie - so refreshing!
Good Food Good Mood
We were invited to Bentwood this morning and were pleased to try a new dish on the menu the porridge which was a delicious combination of banana, Nutella, coconut, hazelnuts, pomegranates and raspberry jam. It looked like Christmas in a bowl and I’m telling myself it was the healthy alternative to the Nutella crumpets.<br/><br/>I also had the smashed avo dish today which was tasty as always but this rendition had an added vibrancy from the bold beetroot dust on the plate. My dining companion had the beef cheek Benny which I’ll have to try on another occasion as my scrumptious mango smoothie was super filling and we left brunch absolutely stuffed. <br/><br/>Fun fact I keep accidentally calling this place Brentwood, but the name Bentwood derives from the fact the space used to be a factory making Bentwood furniture. Now you know<br/><br/>Original review <br/>The long awaited trip to Bentwood! I was lucky enough to brunch as a guest on the weekend and was very excited given the extensive hype surrounding this opening and my previous experience at it’s sister cafes. The space is larger then their other ventures and was still packed to the rafters. <br/><br/>We began the meal with a couple of smoothies; beetroot and mango. Beetroot had been recommended to me recently but it was a tad too chunky for me and the earthiness was a bit overpowering. I definitely preferred the deliciously fruity mango and the two of us battled over that one. Both beautifully vibrant in colour. <br/><br/>Food wise we ordered the butterfly blue tea chia, the granola bowl and the infamous golden gaytime panna. The granola bowl arrived like an old friend, it’s the identical dish they serve at Tinker and tasted just as good as I remembered. The chia was a very deconstructed rendition and I found the granola clusters a bit too stuck together to enjoy. The flavour of the chia itself however was delicious.<br/><br/>Finally our breakfast dessert the decadent and rich panna cotta. I didn’t particularly get a strong sense of golden gaytime but it’s a perfectly textured silky, jiggly, indulgent dish nonetheless.
Gluten Free Bible
Bentwood has delicious food, great ambiance & is perfectly situated in trendy Fitzroy! We had the chia pudding which was absolutely delicious and the avocado toast on gluten free bread! Everything was perfect and we enjoyed our visit to Bentwood so much, we will be returning very soon!

On a hot summers day I was feeling like a refreshing meal and drink! So I saw Bentwood had a açai bowl on their menu and knew I needed to check them out! Also couldn’t pass up ordering an iced latte which was the perfect way to stay cool. Loved that you could see the marbling of the milk and coffee in the latte which I then milked together. The açai bowl had the perfect ratio of smoothie, yogurt, granola and fruit. <br/>Definitely want to visit this cafe again as the service was on point and very efficient. Also is a spacious cafe and a lovely place to meet family and friends.

Loved the healthier brunch options at Bentwood Fitzroy :) Their mango smoothie was delicious and creamy, and prices were reasonable. The brunch bowl with salmon was a good, satisfying brunch option and very pretty to look at, with a beautifully poached egg sitting on top. The cashew basil pesto gave the dish so much flavour, yet its not too heavy or overwhelming. I also love their addition of haloumi and pita chips to add some crunch and different textures to the brunch bowl. Thumbs up for me!<br/><br/>The chilli scrambled eggs were good, and I liked that they included some asian herbs such as vietnamese mint and coriander to give the dish more dimensional flavours. However, this dish wasn’t spectacular compared to other cafes, and would probably give it a miss the next time I visit and try their other unique dishes. <br/><br/>I LOVE the Hong Kong nutella egg waffles! Can we just take a moment to appreciate its beauty? I’m honestly not a fan of chocolate desserts, but I really enjoyed this dish. Their egg waffles were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, bringing me back to my days in HK. I also love how generous they were with the Nutella, defo a dish not to be missed if you are a chocolate lover! <br/><br/>All in all, a very satisfying brunch, and would definitely come back!
Melb_Belly
Had an amazing brunch with my sister in law here. We tried the butterfly pea chia pudding, smashed avo and the hotcakes.<br/>The chia pudding has a unique blueish tinge from the butterfly pea. The buckwheat clusters and mango jerky really helped add flavour to this dish.<br/>The hotcakes were nice and fluffly and the addition of meringue for a nice light crunch was perfect.<br/>The smashed avo is always a safe dish to go with and it tasted delicious.<br/>Overall my sister in law and I both gave the meals a 5/5. Would recommend.

Went there on a Saturday so expect a bit of waiting even though I had already made booking.<br/><br/>I ordered Egg Benny with salmon and halloumi on side. The potato waffle was well done. Overall it was an ok experience. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

One of our favourite brunch places in Fitzroy. From amazing coffee to savoury dishes and baked goods, Bentwood never disappoint. Some of our favourite dishes are chilli scrambled eggs, grilled salmon and butterfly chia pudding. This place is usually packed on weekends during peak times, so make sure to plan your visit.
FoodieInMel
Been here once because heard some good things about it, the design was average at best, not as good as heard, the food was nothing special, coffee was not good. quite disappoint about the whole experience. At a very slow day with a very slow service.
Doublefatasians
Food was good. Tried the grilled salmon and egg’s benny. The egg benny was really good! Also had the mango smoothies! Very refreshing and fresh ❤️ loving it. However, if you are driving, it is quite hard to find a parking here. Took me around 30mins just to find a parking lot and it was a block away. It was all permitted zone outside the restaurant. Overall, i would rate 4/5

Came here on Sunday around 12. Surprisingly not busy, was led to a table as soon as we arrived. Services were a bit lay back. We ordered eggs Benny and chilli scramble eggs. Presentation was a bit let down compared to the photos in the gallery. Food was okay, couldn't find the wow factor, but not bad. Coffee was as you would expect from a shop like this. I would have given a 3.5, but I can't bring myself to round it up to 4. Overall not a bad experience but it didn't wow me.

Bentwood truly nails all the important elements of a fantastic brunch! <br/>The eggs benny were some of the best we’ve ever had, paired with braised beef cheek, sweet potato waffles and jalapeño hollandaise. All the ingredients complement one another perfectly, creating a truly delicious dish. <br/>Sweet dishes at brunch are often a hit or miss. The hotcakes here are incredibly well balanced (especially with extra bacon 😝) and importantly don’t taste too rich or overwhelming. <br/>As we stepped foot inside, the high ceilings and sun shining through the large panel windows were incredibly warm and welcoming. Service was also faultless.<br/>This is definitely a brunch spot worth trying!

Bentwood is a gorgeous cafe situated just off the busy streets of Fitzroy. I had heard so many amazing things about this place, and I couldn’t wait to finally try it. <br/><br/>The venue is just stunning. It’s huge, with warm tones and a rustic style. It was a Sunday morning and the place was extremely busy, however this did not affect the quality of the food or service at all.<br/><br/>One of the things I love about the Bentwood group cafes is that they offer fresh coconut juice - I can never go past this! It never disappoints either - the coconut was very sweet and flavourful.<br/><br/>Our first dish was the Grilled Salmon, and it was divine. The salmon was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, and flaking apart at the touch of the knife. The zoodles were very refreshing and light. We added a Parmesan Potato Rosti to go with this dish and it was honestly the best decision ever! highly recommend trying the rosti - you won’t regret it!<br/><br/>We couldn’t go past their famous Eggs Benny and it did not disappoint! It came with juicy and tender braised beef cheek, and served atop the most delicious and crispy sweet potato waffles. All the flavours and textures worked so well together, and I fell in love with this dish! It’s a must-try!<br/><br/>Finally, we finished with the Hotcakes, which were faultless! I loved the fruity flavours of raspberry curd and passionfruit syrup which added just the right amount of tartness to balance out the sweet. The hotcakes were crispy on the outside, and so fluffy and soft on the inside, and the creamy mascarpone brought the dish together. Such an amazing dessert!<br/><br/>The service was incredible throughout our entire experience and we were very well taken care of. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend visiting Bentwood if you haven’t yet! It’s definitely one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne.<br/><br/>Thank you so much for having me!<br/><br/><br/>

Honestly, very average for the prices.

Great brunch hot spot in Fitzroy. Pretty new and very nice lay out, had good vibes. Food was really nice, would come back for the chicken waffles.

Really big cafe with loads to choose from staff are friendly and the coffee is brilliant.<br/>I strongly recommend the breakfast bowl for something healthy or if you're after something hearty the eggs Benny is to die for

Service - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (good service)<br/>Ambience - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (nice colour scheme in the cafe, very relaxed environment and not loud and noisy) <br/>Food - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (the salmon was sensational!!)<br/>Price - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (reasonable brunch prices)

Bentwood really nails Melbourne brunch from the terrocotta decor and friendly service to the long queues and delicious menu. It’s a big venue so don’t let a queue put you off as tables clear out quickly and it is worth the wait. The hotcakes are my top pick here - they’re always so soft and perfectly plated. While the Panna Cotta was a little sickly for my tastes I can see how someone with a sweet tooth would love it. My other half swears their granola bowl is one of the best in Melbourne.
Coco
Busy modern cafe in Fitzroy. Has an interesting menu.<br/><br/>I had the sweet potato waffle with beef cheeks. It was so yum. Love the sweet potato waffle. It was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. My friend had the chicken mango salad with soba noodles. The salad was light and refreshing<br/><br/>Service was slow. We waited over half hour before our food was served. The slow service was saved by the delicious food hence I've given it 4 stars.
WALL OF MUNCHIES
We came here on a Sunday Morning, despite it being busy, we were seated straight away without any booking beforehand, which was was so GOOD!<br/><br/>- Ambience -<br/>Very busy and upbeat atmosphere which was expected as it was right in the middle of Fitzroy<br/><br/>- Food -<br/>Granola Bowl $17.5:<br/>A bowl of nutrition and deliciousness! Who says you cant eat healthy yummy food? The serving was quite small compared to most other cafes, which definitely was not enough to fill one of us up. But if you were looking for something small to indulge in but tastes good, then this is the one!<br/><br/>Eggs Benny $20:<br/>This was an interesting take on Eggs benny, not your average served on toast, but instead braised beef cheeks served with sweet potato waffles! We very much enjoyed this as the combinations of each element of the dish worked great together!<br/><br/>Nutella Crepes $17:<br/>Our FAVOURITE dish here! Dessert for breakfast? Hell yeah!! Would definitely order this again and we recommend you try this out too!<br/><br/>- Service -<br/>Food came out quick and staff were very nice and friendly!<br/><br/>- Our Rating Scale -<br/>Mind-blowing<br/>Tasty<br/>Did the job<br/>Mehh its okay<br/>Would not return<br/><br/>Bentwood = Tasty!<br/><br/>Follow @wallofmunchies on Instagram for more delicious brunch spots!

Had been wanting to try this cafe for a long time because of the good reviews. Started off with their matcha latte, which not the best, but it was one of the better ones in Melbourne. Then, the Grilled salmon was really delicious! The salmon was flavourful, without being too salty. The zoodles was dressed well. Fried cavolo nero added a nice texture. The eggs benny was also another favourite. Loved that it was served on top of sweet potato waffle, which was really great. Got the sweet potato flavour and texture, since it wasn’t battered thickly. However, the outside was crispy, it was just perfect. Would recommend this cafe, and would love to come back.

Cosy cafe with ample amount of sunlight. staff were welcoming and were immediately served. Food came out after a reasonable wait.<br/><br/>The Chili Scramble Egg was yum, loved how all the ingredients came together with just the right level of spicy kick. tried the Eggs Benny too and it was another well balanced dish. sweet potato waffle with pulled pork, components worked well. <br/><br/>A really great place for brunch! Highly recommended.

Despite being a busy Sunday brunch cafe, the staff at bentwood had my partner and I seated within 10 minutes. The menu was more than reasonably priced, and serving sizes were fantastic.<br/>The coffee was smooth and creamy and definitely a highlight! <br/>I had the chilli scrambled eggs (they were not shy on the chilli, but it came together perfectly!) with a side of haloumi (although small, this was the best halloumi I’ve had in ages and highly recommend adding to your dish if you’re a cheese addict like me ☺️)
Melbourne Madness
Hip and fun in the heart of Fitzroy. <br/><br/>Gorgeous and funky interior and an abundance of natural, sun soaked light - perfect for a brunch date. <br/><br/>Got the chilli Scramble and Hotcakes and was happy as Larry! <br/><br/>Highly recommend! <br/><br/>MM

When Bentwood first opened, I was seeing them all over instagram so we ventured out to Fitzroy to suss the hype for ourselves. Camouflaged amongst the warehouses of the Collingwood-Fitzroy district, Bentwood sits with its brick walls and high ceilings. Bae ordered the scrambled eggs and I had what looked like alice and wonderland on a plate with grilled vegetables, smoked salmon and added haloumi. I'm usually a strong hater of carrot but these heirloom carrots were so sweet and caramelised I almost loved them. The food was well presented and service was super friendly.

Me and my sisters stopped here as we were going to the mystery rooms down the street later. I had seen and heard good things about this place so i was excited.<br/>Walking in, we waited about a minute before being seated right opposite the kitchen. It was so cosily warm inside, and we all had Latte's. I opted for a "normal" one with real milk. Im not a coffee snob but it was so creamy and the coffee had richness to it.<br/><br/>Service was pretty ok, We got in there at 2:00pm so it was slowing down from brunch rush. Our waitress was friendly enough, we made it easy for her buy ordering 3 chicken schnitzel burgers, and my sister got the brunch bowl. <br/><br/>Our food took 10-12 mins to come out, pretty quick. The burger was perfectly filled with siracha mayo, lettuce and the CRISPIEST schnitzel i've ever had. The mayo wasn't overpowering so i could really savour the chicken. My sisters brunch bowl was  a huge surprise, and will order it next time. <br/><br/>Overall, i was happily surprised with it all. I'm not a huge cafe person as i'm not made of money, but this place will stay in my memory for a long time.

Today I went to Bentwood and was surprised by the beauty of the interior and exterior. Overall the experience was okay to good but not amazing.<br/><br/>We ordered the Egg Benny (Waffles), Matcha Latte with Coconut Milk and the Nutella Crepes. The Nutella Crepes were delicious, I loved combined flavour of the Nutella and peanut butter, it reminded me of Reece’s. <br/><br/>I was a little disappointed with the Egg Benny, the flavour was not there. I couldn’t taste the jalapeño in the hollandaise. However, the eggs and the braised beef were cooked well.<br/><br/>The matcha was good but I think it’s expensive for what it is. <br/><br/>The service was okay, the waitress seemed a little frustrated. Not too sure why, but not too friendly. <br/><br/>Overall it was a relatively good brunch spot. Also the presentation of the food is spot on, so a great spot to take photos!

This cafe is an absolute gem! Nestled amongst the quiet, tree covered streets of Fitzroy you'll find this cafe. It's urban chic appearance is enough to lure you in out of the cold. When stepping inside you're shifted into a cosy environment with natural browns and wooden tones throughout. We ate the hotcakes with raspberry curd, passionfruit syrup, meringue and mascarpone and it was divine! The almond milk lattes were a perfect addiction to our brunch!

I loved the grilled salmon with zucchini noodles. Adding on tomatoes was the perfect touch to the dish. The salmon was soft and falling apart, melting in my mouth. I also got the burger which was amazing- the juicy meat patty and sauce was just the perfect combination. The mango smoothie was a refreshing drink for the warm day.<br/>Great atmosphere, however customer service could have been better.
Daisy Never Too Sweet
I can’t believe Bentwood has been around for over a year now! I still remember when it was built, I use to go to the pub across the road with colleagues and we saw apartments being built on top and a few months later bentwood appeared 😊 by the same group as Tinker, Winter Malvern and Stanley Mount Waverley these guys definitely know what they’re doing. Coffee is always on point but I opted for a fresh coconut when I visited because I can never cut one open myself. Wanted a lighter and healthier option so went with the grilled salmon with zucchini noodles and avocado and lastly finished up with a Nutella crepe with peanut butter and strawberries couldn’t have asked for a better Friday lunch!

🥝 granola bowl<br/>🏚: Bentwood<br/>📍: Fitzroy, Melbourne<br/>💵: $17.5AUD (400฿)<br/>.<br/>————————————————————<br/>.<br/>📝: Bentwood Fitzroy, an old furniture warehouse turned into a polished and welcoming daytime diner. The cafe, with its vast brick, stucco facade and near floor-to-ceiling windows, occupies a large corner site on Fitzroy’s leafy Napier Street. The fit-out makes use of rich tones of burgundy, brown and orange. It’s warm but luxe, with soft leather banquettes, blonde-timber Bentwood chairs and exposed brick.<br/>.<br/>❤️: No matter the weather, who could say no to a hearty bowl of acai and fresh fruits? Beautifully plated at Bentwood is the granola bowl with acai, yogurt drizzled over with peanut butter, and topped with banana, strawberries, chia seeds, kiwi, hazelnuts, and bees pollen. Bentwood<br/>We went here this morning during Easter. There wasn’t a long line so we waited about 5 minutes to get a table.<br/><br/>Bentwood is located on a small peaceful street. We ordered:<br/>🔻Chicken mango salad: quite bland and lack of seasoning, chicken breast was dry. Mango was the only bonus<br/>🔻Grilled salmon: salmon was cooked to perfect, crispy skin, love the combination of zucchini, avocado and edamame<br/>🔻Egg benny: cant go wrong with this dish. Potato waffle was a highlight, as crispy as an original waffle<br/>

Bentwood and her sister cafes dominate social media for a good reason - they’ve really cracked the code of what makes a successful Melbourne cafe; beautiful spaces serving gorgeously presented food and coffee that importantly also tastes consistently amazing!<br/><br/>We were excited to visit and super impressed with the uber stylish interior - think exposed concrete, brick and wood surrounded by layers of gold and a mesmerising warm maroon that is instantly instagram worthy. <br/><br/>We had the Nutella Crepes ($17), Grilled Salmon ($22) and Eggs Benny ($20).<br/>The Eggs Benny were a standout for me and one of the best benny’s I’ve ever had! It comes with braised beef cheek, watercress, two poached eggs and a delicious jalapeño hollandaise, but the secret weapon are the sweet potato waffles which are amazingly tasty, perfectly crispy and definitely elevate this to something memorable! <br/><br/>In comparison the salmon seemed a bit boring, but honestly it was still a beautiful dish with perfectly cooked salmon (flakey with a crispy exterior) marinated in a delicious sriracha and sesame sauce, which paired beautifully with the fresh raw zoodles, edamame and avocado mix. A lovely dish that’s filling but also feels light and healthy.<br/><br/>We finished with the Nutella Crepes which were smothered in Nutella and peanut butter, and stuffed full with fresh strawberries and fried banana, topped with vanilla icecream and walnuts. A ridiculously yummy dish with a universally appealing flavour profile.<br/><br/>All in all it’s clear why Bentwood is such a popular cafe and we can’t wait to visit again!<br/>

Surprised by the very high rating here. Food was nice but nothing memorable and amazing. The eggs benny needed more hollandaise and was a bit dry with the waffle and beef. OJ was not cold and needed Ice, and the food talk longer than it should have to come out. Cool venue and the staff were nice but not that attentive I didn’t think as even trying to pay when leaving we had to wait for too long. Maybe only a 2.5/5 but giving it a 2 would be too harsh as it wasn’t “bad”

Incredibly... average. <br/><br/>FOOD: I ordered the Nutella crepes and honestly where can you go wrong with that? It’s plated beautifully and you know it’s meant for the beautiful gram but in terms of flavour? Hmm. It was normal. I didn’t find it that amazing, the toppings were relatively skimpy and it was a small dish for $17. Everything was pretty basic and I don’t think it’s mindblowing, in fact I was slightly disappointed when it was hard and almost burnt at some of the crepe edges making it really unpleasant to eat. For $17 and the hYpE I truly expected a little more. <br/><br/>SERVICE: Service was basic. They were pleasant at times but it felt forced and tbh, slightly unwelcoming. Not joking when I entered, I was instructed where NOT to sit and it was abit scary. Idk if I annoyed the staff by not ordering a coffee? But I guess it just wasn’t the greatest.<br/><br/>Bentwood is a beautiful looking cafe with high ratings but unfortunately, in my opinion, it didn’t live up to my expectations. It’s not a bad cafe, don’t get me wrong but I think there are far more better cafes with impeccable service and unique food that is valued for your money that you can find. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to go to Bentwood but I’m glad I tried it.

A lovely brunch with my friends here at Bentwood Fitzroy.<br/><br/>It was the perfect weather to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. I loved the exterior brickwork, and the colour of the interior.<br/><br/>I needed a bit of a detox after a week suffering with food poisoning, and these smoothies/bowls hit the spot!<br/>The flat white with soy milk was really nice.<br/>The peanut butter smoothie had a great flavour, rich in peanut butter and cacao.<br/>The brunch was full of goodness! I'm not a massive kale fan, but it really worked in this bowl. The creamy cashew basil pesto went well with the kale and quinoa. I'm glad I added the salmon, which added a nice smokey flavour to the dish. <br/><br/>The staff looked after us really well. They were really friendly, always asking if we needed anything.

Cool new brunch spot with industrials vibes. The eggs benny and the granola bowls are delicious. Though a little odd that it charges a 10% surcharge during the weekend. Other than that it’s worth a try!

I had the pleasure of spending my Easter morning at Bentwood. Perfectly poached eggs satisfied my cravings. Sometimes it’s the simple things that are the best. The Chili scramble was also a stand out, with the addition of fresh Chili to build up the dish. High recommend this aesthetic and efficient cafe!

Decor and vibe on point!! Service was great too! <br/><br/>I tried the oat mylk latte and mango smoothie, both yummy! <br/><br/>My meal was the butterfly blue chia pudding. Such a spectacular dish and it tasted amazing too. <br/><br/>Would love to go back to try more vegan options!<br/><br/>Edit: went back and tried the Breakfast Greens with added mushrooms, an almond flat white, and the most amazing choc PB smoothie! All delish and fresh! <br/><br/>Service was great the 2nd time round too!

Amazing breakfast and lunch, wouldn’t expect anything less for the Bentwood group! Their peanut butter, banana and cacao smoothie was LIFE changing. The bowl I got was absolutely delicious! Great vibe, interior and decor.
Liv (nourishinglively)
Hands down one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. The interior is truly beautiful with big open windows and plenty of space. The staff are attentive & welcoming, and the food is truly delicious. My favourite dish is the chia pudding matches with an almond milk mocha you’ve got yourself the perfect Sunday brunch.
The.Top.Lifestylee
The chilli was a nice touch adding both sweet and spicy, as well as the toast, however was cut too thick to enjoy eating. The pomegranet added a really nice freshness and the beetroot powder was so delicious and a really unique touch, however the dish needed more of both of these elements. It was also a bit pricey at $19, so something like an egg couldve been nice to add. The hotcakes were Delish with so many different elements on them. It was also presents so beautifully. The service was great with constant checks on how we were going and if we needed anything more. The cafes atmosphere was really nice with great decor and a nice colour pallet chosen.

Rate: 4.0/5<br/><br/>☆彡 another nice-classic brunch place in fitzroy!! went for Saturday 1:30pm lunch, had to line up for 2-3min but then got ushered into relatively spacious interior that has 1-1 and communal seating! <br/>We ordered: butterfly blue tea chia pudding ($17.5) and Hotcakes ($19) and piccolo + magic<br/><br/>☆ the Good:<br/>- omg, the butterfly chia pudding is amazing especially the buckwheat clusters which is quite generous and has solid, thick texture which reminds me of caramelized, compressed muesli bars!! It works for me 10/10 :) <br/>- sweetness of the buckwheat clusters is balanced by the COYO (coconut yoghurt) & chia<br/>- wait staff is very friendly<br/>- very neat, beautiful, open-spaced interior<br/><br/>☆ not so good:<br/>- service for food took quite a while<br/>- wish there was more fruit in chia pudding<br/><br/>☆彡overall, impressed and coming back to try other menu items or maybe just for butterfly chia ;) <br/><br/>

MMMmmm a decent serve of chilli scrambled eggs sure hits the spot at brunch time 😍 Bentwood Fitzroy is a beautiful large cafe serving up the usual suspects. The smashed avo with a little bit of extra 🌶️🌶️ spice was delicious. We both got extra hash cause we're all about that potato life 🥔 and the coffee was also real good ☕.<br/><br/>.<br/><br/>Defs coming back for those chili eggs as well. 🌶️🥚👌<br/><br/>.<br/><br/>Did you know the cafe is named after the famous Bentwood chairs you see in cafes and restaurants worldwide.<br/>.<br/>Staff were lovely, there's heaps of seating too but you better come quick as it does get busy!

Probably one of the best interiors for a cafe I have ever seen. Super friendly staff that were very helpful. Their menu was amazing, their eggs benny is my favourite!

4.5/5 <br/><br/>This place was recommended to me by my partner so we headed off for brunch. The service was excellent, this place ran like clockwork with everyone doing a great job. <br/><br/>My strong skinny latte was one of the best that I’ve had. There was a lot of milk froth, not too much milk, the coffee had a great flavour and. It wasn’t too hot so I could smash it down. <br/><br/>Food wise I ordered eggs benny w beef cheeks served on sweet potato jaffles. This dish was absolutely delicious. Everything worked so well and it was executed perfectly. All that I wanted was a bit more seasoning and that was on the table so I was a happy camper! Lol<br/><br/>My partner had an avo smash w a home made hash brown on sourdough toast. I really liked the attention to detail here as the waitress gave us different cutlery to cut the toast. Nice <br/><br/>The only shortfall was my Bloody Mary. It was watery and lacked some good spice and where’s the celery?<br/><br/>Otherwise this was a great brunch.

Bentwood is another place I would highly recommend. The interior of the place and the warmth of the environment and friendly staff made it feel like it was already going to be good place to eat. As it was very busy we waited only 5 minutes to be seated, the staff were all so friendly and quick with there service. We ordered the Hotcakes and the Smash Avo, both plates were decorated up so nice and tasted to perfection. Enjoyed every moment :)!

I love Bentwood's coffee and I've been using their coffee beans for 1 year.<br/>The barista is knowledgeable and make beautiful coffee.<br/><br/>BUT<br/><br/>I've just noticed the lady waiter looked very tired of serving us in recent visit.<br/>When she saw a French looking man walked in, her face was changed 180 degree: From very elegant unhappy angry face to super cute smiling face.<br/>My experiance became 1🌟 due to her service.<br/>I love coffee but I would dine elsewhere.<br/><br/><br/>11 months ago: I've been parking near by this cafe to visit library and finally chance to try here.<br/><br/>The beautiful fresh coffee aroma goes steps away from the cafe.<br/><br/>Very large dining area and cute round tables setting. It was busy Sunday lunchtime but didn wait too long.<br/><br/>Lovely light meal Menu list which is separate ingredients with daily products and meat for add on style.<br/><br/>All staff were friendly and the latte was so good. Full volume, creamy, deep flavours of half Columbia and Tanzania. My favourite coffee beans.<br/><br/>Nice to find their coffee doesn't change ratio of beans or type of beans weekly like other new style cafe.<br/>The 250g tin of Inglewood Roastery is refillable.<br/>The beans were roasted a week ago and full of beautiful coffee smell inside my car on the way home with the tin closed.<br/><br/>I've been making latte at home and the taste is wonderful.<br/><br/>Really recommended the coffee beans.

Bentwood is an old favourite of mine that never gets old. <br/><br/>I came here firstly for brunch with some friends and no matter how many times I have visited it, I am always welcomed with the biggest smile. Visiting Bentwood is always an experience and I am surprised that even after all these times I still get astonished and overwhelmed by the beautiful brick decor and vintage vibes.<br/><br/>The possibilities are endless here and whether it is for breakfast, brunch or lunch, every meal will be carefully prepared and cooked, crafted and plated perfectly. From the classic smashed avocado on toast to an interesting chia pudding, this places offers an impressive variety of different and exquisite meals without a doubt.<br/><br/>Here’s my opinion about some of the meals they have that I have tried from the several times I have visited this venue: <br/><br/>- Granola Bowl: I have to say that the first time that I had the granola bowl I wasn’t impressed. I found the granola too sweet and the acai portion relatively small and quite unfilling. Another time that I visited I tried to ask for more acai and it was slightly better but the granola still continues to be quite overpowering in terms of sweetness (even for me that am a sweet tooth!)<br/><br/>- Butterfly Blue Tea Chia Pudding: to be honest, again, I am not a huge fan. It is beautifully presented and the mango jerky is one of a kind but the caramelised buckinis end up being so sweet and the chia pudding too thick, despite it’s catchy blue colour. I know many people love this meal but for me it was not exciting at all and overly sweet.<br/><br/>- Smashed avocado on toast: flawless, with good avocado portion and two big crunchy sourdough toasts. Delicious and I love the special touch of sprinkles seeds on top 👌<br/><br/>- Peanut butter smoothie: how can this not be amazing? I mean, peanut butter by itself is delicious and served in those magnificent jars is just pure lush 👌 I really liked the taste but I would personally like it to be little thicker in consistency.<br/><br/>- Almond latte: made with the famous and one and only MilkLab almond milk is it definitely my usual coffee order and I cannot get enough of it. Definitely my favourite morning pick me up!<br/><br/>- Matcha almond latte: super creamy and with the perfect amount of foam. Light and at the same time flavourful.<br/><br/>- Chai almond latte: I am a huge chai fan and I have had my fair share of these ones. Love to be able to pour it myself and to be served in a beautiful cup.<br/><br/>Overall I would have to say that I visit this venue more for the people and the amazing service they provide than for the food itself, although the coffee is quite good. I am rating them 4 out of 5 stars because of the I wish they had more dairy free or vegan friendly options and because was really hoping for more in terms of meal options - I hope that this year they can add more things to the menu both vegan and with dairy free options!
Dine And Dash
Hidden away in Napier Street in Fitzroy is the incredible Bentwood Café, sister café to Tinker, Penta, Stanley and the list goes on…<br/><br/>The decor is beautiful! Near Floor-To-Ceiling windows, an abudance of seating places and exposed brick for walls - this establishment appeared most inviting as we entered!<br/><br/>We ordered the Grilled Salmon, the California Salad and the Eggs Benny. For drinks we had the Mango Smoothie and a Latte.<br/><br/>The Grilled Salmon was cooked beautifully, it was a very generous serve and the noodles that accompanied the dish were exquisite! The salmon’s skin was crunchy too. The Eggs Benny was amazing - I’ve never had sweet potato waffles before but they were absolutely extraordinary! The meat was cooked well and the jalapeño hollandaise was divine. Our favourite dish was definitely the California Salad - it came with so many ingredients including red quinoa, sweet corn, pomegranates and hummus - the flavours all worked together so well! We left feeling very satisfied. Both drinks tasted great, the coffee was perfect and the mango smoothie tasted very refreshing and fruity. <br/><br/>Our waitress was friendly, attentive and enthusiastic.<br/><br/>We definitely recommend this place even if you’re not a local. You will be absolutely thrilled with your experience.

Mmmmm. What a tasty brunch this was. I chose this place due to its menu. It has a great variation. I also love it when brunch places have a lot of soft drinks on offer. Sometimes I just don’t feel like a coffee but a Diet Coke on a hot day always does the trick. <br/><br/>The cafe is bright and airy. It’s a wonderful but space and has a communal table for solo people. Or you can have a normal table solo or not. <br/><br/>Even though the menu is great! I went pretty basic with eggs on toast, mushroom, tomatoes, Green and chicken. It was all perfectly tasty. I very much like how they have a chicken side on their menu. Sometimes it’s nice to have that extra protein hit. As a fitness professional I track what I eat, making sure it’s pretty balanced or if I’m ever out eating and wanting to stay on track it’s nice to have those options available! <br/><br/>The service was really great too. Oh and their cookies! I got a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie! It was amazing! <br/><br/>I like this place 8/10

Wow - what a stunning fit out here. It’s warm but luxe, with soft leather banquettes, blonde-timber Bentwood chairs and exposed brick!<br/><br/>ABOUT THE FOOD; <br/>Salmon Pokecado - sashimi salmon, avocado, pickled red onion, pineapple, edamame, baby rocket, wasabi citrus, furikake and white miso on dark rye.<br/><br/>A lovely dish with Japanese inspired flavours & ingredients which just meshed deliciously to form one incredible dish! <br/><br/>Butterfly Blue Tea Chia Pudding with COYO, buckwheat clusters, coconut, pomegranate, strawberry & mango jerky 🍓💕<br/><br/>A ligher & more fresh breaky option! Lots of different flavours and textures happening here! Loved the burst of sweetness from the pomegranate!!

The Grilled Salmon with zoodles (zuchinni noodles) is my all time favourite dish at Bentwood. I personally pair it with the Mango Smoothie for a refreshing finish. We also tried the Avo & Feta Smash with a side of egg and bacon (and some OJ too). That too was a great combo.<br/><br/>I love the ambiance of this cafe. They have indoor and outdoor seatings and plenty of natural lighting. What a gem of a cafe! The attached photos says it all!

😋The moment when my sister lets me have the first bite of this juicy beef and bacon burger 🍔 at Bentwood. I absolutely adored the leafy streets and rustic interior at bentwood✨, from the brick floors to the copper accents, every detail was a build up to it’s luxe yet charming atmosphere👌🏻.

Ice coffee was fair, very small ice cream <br/>Matcha maiden latte was tasteless, doesn’t have enough matcha powder, quite watery<br/>Hotcakes had nothing special<br/>Potato rosti was nice but a little bit salty<br/>Chilli scrambled eggs were the best among the table.
Joanne | Melbournecitay
The ambience at this place was really good. Beautiful natural lighting, brown colour tones.. it really gave a good welcoming feel to us. The shortcoming sadly was in the range of food and coffee. I found coffee quite average.. wasn’t the best I’ve had in the fitzroy area. The granola was delicious but very standard. The chilli scrambled eggs was also small portioned and it was quite pricey for what it was. The menu wasn’t exciting enough and I was really hoping for more. Hope they would jazz things up in the coming year
Srslyfoods
very cool and trendy cafe serving super coffee and delicious beautifully presented food. Tucked away between Brunswick and Smith streets, this is one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. The food we ordered were all sensational! Great service and nice decor.

Mango Chicken Salad : 😍 Amazing <br/>Eggs Benny : 😍 Amazing <br/>Super Bowl : 😁 Great <br/>Chicken Schnitzel Roll : 😁 Great <br/>Coffee : 😍 Amazing <br/>Turmeric Latte : 😁 Great <br/>Nutella Milkshake : 😍 Amazing <br/><br/>Tucked away in the corner of the streets of Carlton, Bentwood Cafe was worth the walk for. Coffee was deadset amazing and the Nutella Milkshake gave me all of my childhood memories in a glass. Yes I ordered a lot of food but there’s only one I really want to vouch for and that’s the Eggs Benny. Damn ... it was honestly on another level. All other dishes need to up their game because IT IS GOOD!

In the back streets of Fitzroy, away from the hustle and bustle, is one of the best cafes in Melbourne. With it's modern, airy industrial interior, the atmosphere here is busy, yet friendly. With plenty of round tables and the namesake Bentwood chairs, it feels more like a European cafe than one in edgy Fitzroy.<br/><br/>The food and coffee here is exceptional... not only tasty but beautifully presented, making the experience fabulous. This time we tried the new Nutella and peanut butter crepes and the chia pudding. Both were fantastic, plated beautifully, and as delicious as they are pretty. Really, could Nutella and peanut butter ever be a bad combination?<br/><br/>I've always found the staff here friendly and approachable, the service great and Bentwood is highly recommended by me.

One of Melbourne’s best kept secrets for brunch. Located behind the side streets of Fitzroy, it gives you such a quiet sleepy feel for brunch. With amazing coffees and amazing food as well. Bentwood Fitzroy is a must go for all brunch goers
Susan
Good service, good food and a calm ambience. Not too busy for a weekday brunch. The coffee was good and the food even better! I highly recommend the Eggs Bene, the sweet potato waffles was soft yet crispy on the outside and paired perfectly with the beef brisket. The brekkie bowl was also delicious and fulfilling.
Do It For The Brunch
So, finally a Melbourne review, what you all came here to see! Okay, maybe you just came to see brunch… and that’s what you’re getting!. On a cloudy Monday morning in Melbourne, I had the day off, so I trekked a couple blocks over from my cute little Collingwood apartment to Bentwood in Fitzroy. These guys are a group; they’ve got Tinker in Northcote, MOB in Camberwell, Clubhouse in Malvern, and Stanley in Mount Waverly, all of which I want to try. I’ve been to Bentwood with people before, but this time I was taking the opportunity to go by myself, and really savour the experience.
Tabi Ei
We went there for Sunday brunch. We got there before 10 and there weren’t many people there but was packed with a line outside as we were leaving. We were seated within 2 minutes, asked for a drink and our order within the first 5 minutes and the staff were lovely.<br/>We had the lamb cheek with potato waffles which I highly recommend, it was amazing. And the avo/feta smash was also great, very generous on the avo and flavourful. <br/>Spacious and full of sunlight.
Ethan Oxenham
Amazing breakfast! I absolutely loved my visit here. I decided to order the pancakes which were amazing and a mango smoothie. I would definitely recommend visiting this place for yourself. The salmon is a bit overcooked but the zucchini noodles were al dente. Eggs benny had a runny yolk & the white had solidified perfectly. Overall, the foods were so good!
Pinch Of Bacon
The last time we came, it was a great experience and the food was spectacular. This time is was a bit lacklustre - food was quite bland which was disappointing.
Kheng OMNOM
Bentwood is probably one of my favourite brunch places in Fitzroy. Their golden gay time panna cotta is outstanding and I loved the Poke on toast! Their coffee is amazing and honestly there is a reason why they’re always so busy. Can’t wait to be back to try their other dishes 💜
Michelle Leong
Fitzroy never ceases to amaze me with their wide array of brunch/lunch options and despite numerous visits, there would always be one or two places that I have yet to visit.  Latte - needed a good cuppa to kick start the day, especially when one is sleep deprived.  Nutella crepes with strawberries, fried bananas, peanut butter, hazelnuts and vanilla ice cream.
Agreekable
Just the most trendy cafe in Melbourne! What can I say about this, it’s super hipster in Fitzroy in a converted warehouse. What could be cooler than that! The food is very yummy, you have opens for healthy items or very very naughty yummy things! Gonna break your diet or stick to it at this cafe!

We came to Bentwood on a Saturday afternoon and damn was it super packed (expected but). There was a really long line but it was shortened really quickly which was good for us cause we didn’t have to wait too long. <br/><br/>We ordered the egg Benedict on waffles, pancakes, scrambled eggs, salmon pokeado and panacotta. The food wasn’t too bad, the waffle for the egg Benedict was really delicious however the other elements on the plate was quite mediocre and didn’t stand out too much. <br/><br/>My partner is always on the hunt for good coffee and he said that the coffee was really average here. <br/><br/>What I love most about this place is their plating of food. We ordered the panacotta and it was plated beautifully. I loved the negative space kinda plating and the smear down the plate with all the elements and components on top of it. The panacotta was nice and fresh and had a perfect consistency. The fruits brought the dish together. <br/><br/>Overall, not too bad of a cafe. :) <br/><br/>

Went here on a quiet Monday. Staff was friendly. Love the Chai latte and chicken mango salad. The salad taste refreshing. quite good for summertime~

I love that you can get a booking here, unlike many brunch places nowadays. The venue is relaxed, spacious and baby-friendly. The food was ok, ordered the chilli scrambled eggs which was decent, although I didn't think it was amazing. Perhaps I need to come back to try some of their other dishes. I was impressed at the mango smoothie though, which was delicious.
Kaylamimi
Amazing breakfast everyone was licking their plates clean! Only negative is the very slow service. We had quite a big group (around 15 people) but had to wait around half an hour just for a coffee and an hour for our food. Would defz go back tho

Another good one in Fitzroy area. Salmon with zoodles tasted nice, so does the sweet potato waffles under the pulled pork. Nice decor too but coffee is a let down.
Steven Gu
Bentwood at Fitzroy. It is a nice modern cafe restaurant with good ambience. Coffee is a bit bitter to me but overall is still good. I just had simple lunch chicken schnitzel and like the chilli mayo source. Chicken is a bit dry to me. Overall was a nice place and friendly staff with good service.

I absolutely loved my visit here. I decided tonorder the pancakes which were amazing and a mango smoothie. I would definitely recommend visiting this place for yourself.

Last week on thursday, me & my friends have a sudden late lunch in this place. The place and the ambience was bright, airy and light with retro kind vibe into it. Upon our arrival, the staff was greeted us nicely and take us to the table<br/><br/>FOODS & DRINKS<br/>Nutella Crepes<br/>Mango juice<br/>Grilled Salmon<br/>Nutella Shakes<br/>Eggs Benny<br/>Coconut Water<br/><br/>Overall, the foods was so delicious! I found the best hidden gem in fitztroy.. The salmon is a bit overcooked but the zucchini noodles was al dente. Eggs benny had a runny yolk & the white had solidified perfectly. The holandaise sauce and sweet potato waffle was match made in heaven. Together in my mouth create harmony. Nutella crepes were all so balance together, sweet, sour and a bit salty together in one plate. coconut water very match with nutella crepes if you want light taste. The mango juice was so good!(very recommended to order) and the nutella shakes was just like regular nutella with milk.<br/><br/>All of them were amazing, very recommended by me!! I will be sure to comeback<br/><br/>#BHAsFoodDiary

Absolutely wonderful and friendly staff! Had delicious burgers and chips, were very accommodating even though we arrived late and didn’t mid us staying back to eat. Will definitely come again!

Ordered mango chicken salad and it's really lack of seasoning, way worse than temperance society's. Unexperienced staff grab a soy latte and ask everybody if it's theirs. And I just can't understand why these restaurant charge more on weekends.

A place with an amazing atmosphere to have a delicious brunch; perfect for a couples, families or friends meal. I definitely recommend the chili eggs and the hotcakes.

Bentwood is one of Melbourne’s most beautiful cafes in my opinion. It’s modern day classy with minimalistic decor, and also very inviting with rich brown and orange hues. A lot of natural light and perfect for fellow Instafoodies out there! <br/>The service was just so-so on the day we visited. Staff were friendly enough but it took a while for someone to seat us, take our orders, and serve us (we even had to ask twice for water!). <br/>We had the chilli scrambled eggs and eggs benedict (both were tasty), wagyu beef burger (deeelicious and very juicy) with a side of fries and shake (get the salted caramel y’all) and grilled salmon with zoodles (one of the best zoodles I’ve had). Food was nothing extraordinary but delicious nonetheless.

Overall great experience! Staffs are friendly and very polite. The place is great and service is nice. We ordered grilled salmon, eggs benny, and chicken salad. They were good, but nothing really special. I hope they could expand their menu. The matcha latte was really great however. But the mango smoothie and mango juice were just okay. Great ambience tho!

Excellent service, food and coffee every time I’ve visited! They’re generally fairly busy on weekends but the wait for a table has never been too long. I usually opt for the brunch bowl - the flavours are perfectly balanced and the pita chips add a delightful crunch to the dish. I’ve also tried the hot cakes and the panna cotta and they were both absolutely delicious!
Isabelletan
Ordered the eggs Benny, lamb salad and salmon pokecado. I’ve also tried the brunch bowl and golden gaytime panna cotta during my previous visit. While the panna cotta was a bit small, all the food I’ve tried was good and the staff were really nice too. I definitely recommend this place!

In Short: Bentwood Fitzroy Cafe makes you feel so lucky to live in a city that cultivates cafes of this class. From the food that is more a genuine culinary experience than just great cafe fare, to the space that exudes refined and funky architectural intent, Bentwood is an essential for any serious Melbournian cafe connoisseur. Tip: The smoothies are on another level of awesome!

I ordered the smashed Avocado and my friend ordered the Pork eggs benny, both were really enjoyable. It was a really good serving size. Both dishes had a cool twist to pretty classic brunch dishes. The chilli and pomegranate ( and I’m not even a huge fan of chilli) completed each other and the dish really well. The only real critique would be that I wasn’t a huge fan of the iced coffee as it was weak. However, reasonably priced and pretty enjoyable experience!
Nicholas Alexander
Disappointed with the bland eggs benedict and ordinary coffee with a 15% public holiday surcharge. Pre-made apple juice was the only decent aspect. Nice venue and atmosphere but will not be returning.

Came here relatively early on a Saturday morning and the place was mostly empty (which I enjoy). The setting is really lovely with warm vibes and friendly staff. <br/><br/>Ordered the Eggs Benny, while my friends got the smashed avo and poached eggs with haloumi. My dish was super tasty, though for the price I felt the portion was quite small. My friend’s eggs were also on the smaller side. My soy cap was also on the bitter side for me, usually I have my coffee with no sugar but this one needed a good teaspoon to taste. That’s my personal preference though. I much preferred the delicious mango smoothie I got, with coconut milk. On the expensive side but worth it! <br/><br/>I think it’s a lovely place overall, albeit slightly dearer than your average brunch place for what you get.
Melbourne With Kidz
Brunch done right! Bentwood located in Fitzroy Melbourne Comes from the people behind Tinker in Northcote, Penta in Elsternwick, and Stanley in Mount Waverly, among others. Kids absolutely loved the Silky smooth Golden Gaytime panna cotta sprinkled with honeycomb biscuit crumbs, roasted peanuts, banana, fresh berries and a slick of salted caramel and Fluffy hotcakes with raspberry coulis, passionfruit and vanilla mascarpone , restaurant has a great feel atmosphere silk design and style amazing customer service and high quality meals and coffee

I arrived for my food in Bentwood Cafe a short ride from the city on a tram, and the cafe is a 10-minute walk from the stop which is very convenient.<br/><br/>Ambiance: The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the happy and upbeat music that was playing. We were seated on a table next to an open window which was excellent for a hot day.<br/><br/>I started off my brunch with a warm and frothy Midas Touch Golden Turmeric Latte. The color of the latte is a light yellow, topped off with a crunchy brown sugar! <br/><br/>To eat, I ordered the Salmon Pokecado - served on dark rye bread, it was topped off with generous servings of avocado, sashimi salmon, onions, pineapple, edamame, wasabi citrus, and white miso! The presentation was beautiful and the salmon chunks were divine! It was delicious enough to have two pieces of toast and since this was a late brunch at around 2 pm, I recommend ordered a second dish to be full.<br/><br/>My friend ordered a beautiful Eggs Benny, and I helped myself to some of the mushrooms that came with it - absolutely KILLER! Completely enveloped in flavor! The Waffles were also just right, not too sweet and perfectly complementing the eggs.<br/><br/>To top off the meal, we shared the ever popular Golden Gaytime Pana Cotta. <br/><br/>The Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta↔️which is a popular Australian ice cream snack! "It is a toffee and vanilla ice-cream dipped in compound chocolate and wrapped in honeycomb biscuits, on a wooden paddlepop-stick".<br/><br/>It was made up of chocolate Panna Cotta, salted caramel, honeycomb crumb biscuit, peanuts, bananas, strawberries, raspberries, and red velvet tulle! <br/><br/>The creaminess and chocolatiness of the Pana Cotta was DECADENT, and we were surprised that we finished the entire dessert despite our brunch portions. <br/><br/>Service: Thank you for having us Bentwood, I would love to be back to try lunch portions! Our server was fabulous, she helped us understand the menu better and helped make our lunch enjoyable! <br/>

Disappointed after visiting this place, very busy cafe which we had to wait for long time to order our meal, and sadly the dishes were just average for the price :( and we only found out they also have 10% surcharge on Saturday when we see the bill, which we were not been told or in their menu. I feel like busy places just charge whatever they want, almost $100 in bentwood for 3 people, there is surely a better place to go.
Leon
Would probably never come back again, went for a brunch with 2 friends on Saturday morning, the place was crowded and noisy, the food is just average but overpriced, they also charged additional 10% on top of the bill which is nowhere to be found in the menu, nor have we been notified by staff. There are better choices around the area, however the staff were nice.
Erin King
Delicious food and varied menu! The service was a little slow to order but food came out prompt and coffee was great. Loved the brunch bowl with haloumi and salmon.
Uncle Rico
Spacious space with fabulous furnishings and fittings. Menu was great, but the coffee even better. Staff were extremely helpful and delightful. An overall lovely experience.
Jenny
I had heard so many positive reviews about Bentwood and was really excited to finally check it out. Unfortunately it was a huge let down. The service was very poor, despite it being quiet it took over 40 minutes for our food to be served. I order the heirloom carrots, the vegetables were cold and the bread was stale ): on the bright side my partner very much enjoyed the eggs benny. Our waiter was unprofessional and quite rude.<br/>Disappointed, and probably would not come back again ):

Lovely atmosphere, nice staff and relatively quick service. I wasn't overwhelmed by the amount of vegan options but the ones I tried were good. I definitely recommend the chia pudding! Their coffee is great too. *sponsored, free meal

Ducking in for a quick bite, I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious, modern feel of the place. There's a lot of choice on the single page menu, but Golden Gaytime is still one of my favourite ice cream so I couldn't resist the panna cotta version on offer.<br/><br/>My food is too pretty to eat! Impressed by the aesthetics of the presentation, it was many photos later before I tucked in. The rich, chocolatey panna cotta was firm in consistency, complemented by the salted caramel spread, honeycomb biscuit crumbs, banana topped with crushed peanuts, strawberries, raspberries and beautiful red velvet tuile. The sweetness of the panna cotta was pared back by the berries so it wasn't overwhelming. A scrumptious and indulgent dish.<br/><br/>Warm colour tones and feature ceiling made the place feel inviting. Friendly staff and quick service completed the visit. Bentwood exemplifies Melbourne's chic and high quality cafe culture, worth returning.

Ambience, Food and coffee was good but absolutely let down by very slow service. It took them almost 35 mins to serve me a simple bacon and egg on toast!
Let’s Eat!
Love the interior and the overall atmosphere ! <br/><br/>What we ordered<br/>1. Grilled salmon: absolutely love the entire dish! The zucchini noodle goes so well with the salmon. And the salmon itself taste soft and not over cooked <br/>2. Heirloom carrots: the overall presentation of the dish is creative. The taste of the dish itself was light and flavourful <br/><br/>Service: amazing <br/><br/>Will definitely come back for he grilled salmon
Mr Wong
very lovely place to have brunch, located on quiet n peaceful street, not too many clients and food is tasty. one shortage is only one waitress to serve whole big restaurant.
Alicia Shao
<br/>The Bikini Salad and the Grilled salmon were spicy and there is no indications on the menu. We got two little kids with us, the staff didn't even say anything at the time we ordered and none of my kids could eat anything. Waited 40 minutes for food and the food was crap. The tumeric coconut latte was full of spices, quite awful. No staff cared to ask about our dining experience didn't feel like they cared. Came here as we saw its high rating but we think it's overrated.
HildaLuv2Eat
A chic cafe with marsala colored interior and comfortable room between tables. I had the egg benny and drinking coconut, rare to find fresh whole coconut on a western cafe menu and it has come out chilled and refreshing, definitely not any artificial one! Egg benny is a delicious combination of beef cheek, poached egg and sweet potato waffle. I like the natural sweetness of the waffle but my poached egg had a slightly strong vinegar taste...it was still amazing overall!
Bronwyn Cutts
Rude staff, too expensive, crappy coffee.Never again. Decor is cold, it is noisy and has a very tense vibe. I have read a lot of the other reviews and can only agree  with the comment about small food portions for the price.
Quince And Cheese
Betwood offers a super interesting menu in a modern and stylish location in the backstreets of Fitzroy. The fact that it's not in the hustle and bustle of Brunswick Street makes it reason enough to pick it over neighbouring venues. I was feeling like being healthy when I came here, and therefore opted for the 👙 salad (plus haloumi for balance). Meanwhile, my friend convinced me to share the hotcakes as well. So much for my health kick.<br/><br/>That being said, the hotcakes weren't overly sweet and provided a dose of vitamin C by way of strawberries and passionfruit. I didn't love them, to be honest, because I thought the sticky strawberry syrup and abundance of meringue were overkill. O also wasn't loving their intense lemon flavour. But there's nothing wrong with the pancakes- they just weren't my cup of tea.<br/><br/>The salad, on the other hand, was great. Full of fresh and crunchy veg, fruit, cheese, legumes and more, it constantly kept me interested. This is an area where other salads tend to fall short, making Bentwood's bikini salad a real standout. It's the ideal health food for people who don't like health food.
Melbournefoodie
One of my top 3 cafes in Melbourne. The quality of food and coffee is fantastic. The cafe interior is modern and spacious but rustic in charm. I highly recommend trying the Heirloom carrots as they were undoubtedly exceptional!

4.5<br/><br/>We came into Bentwood the other day to try out the famous golden gaytime panacotta. We also ordered the scrambled eggs with haloumi and the eggs benedict as savouries <br/><br/>The eggs benedict were on a sweet potato waffle which was so delicious and unexpected, really yum. <br/><br/>The chill scramble was delicious and very similar to their chain café’s , very tasty and consistent with the ones I have tried before- the addition of the haloumi was perfect. <br/><br/>The golden gaytime panacotta was definitely worth all the raves, it was more chocolatey than a regular gaytime but nevertheless delicious. We demolished this one in seconds and will 100% be back for it again <br/><br/>Thanks for having us !
Suzie Rudge
Went to bentwood today with my friends and fam and was a great experience! <br/>Atmosphere was awesome with some good tunes playing, and the interior was funky but not over done! <br/>Me and my gal got the granola bowl and was glorious! The crunchy granola against the açai and yoghurt was a balance of perfection! <br/>Keep it up guys!
Klass
Nice enough food and staff but definitely not good value for money. Soy latte was watery and meal serving sizes way too small - 10% surcharge on Saturdays and Sundays is a joke. Won’t be back.

⭐️3.5 stars⭐️ Came here on a Sunday afternoon to what was a busy cafe. Unfortunately there was confusion relating to us wanting a table (our name was not taken down when we arrived, we were just told to wait to the side) so we ended up waiting 40 minutes to be seated. We don’t mind waiting but on this occasion, we were waiting while others who came after us were getting seated first. <br/><br/>What we ordered: Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta & Heirloom Carrots w/ potato rosti. Both dishes were presented beautifully. The Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta could be considered more of a dessert , very sweet & chocolatey. The Heirloom Carrots was what every beetroot / carrot lover would enjoy with lots of flavor. <br/><br/>The only thing to point out is the serving sizes aren’t that big while prices aren’t cheap.
Eat Play Live Melbourne
This is another project from the team that brought us Penta in Elsternwick and Tinker Northcote so we knew that the quality was going to be high.<br/>Previously a furniture showroom (actually where the owner bought the chairs for his first café) now has a cool industrial fit out - exposed brick walls, super high ceilings (check out the red steel squares) with floor to ceiling windows, concrete pillars and pale timber furnishings. It's a big space, with seating for over 100 people - with enough room for prams and lots of seating out in the sun for those coming in with their fury friends. It was puppy central on Saturday! The service is friendly and really efficient, even when they're busy - they do take bookings which might be a good idea for a group, however the we didn't have much of a wait for a table.<br/><br/>Bentwood have a generous all day menu featuring all the brunch classics (with their own twist), a couple of dessert dishes, salads and a beef burger with bacon which sounded really good. The focus is on good quality, seasonal produce and they cater for dietaries with plenty of Vegan friendly options, smoothies, milk and coffee alternatives.  The coffee here is fabulous.<br/><br/>On this occasion we ordered:Butterfly Blue Tea Chia Pudding $17.5 - with COYO, buckwheat clusters, coconut, pomegranates, strawberries and mango<br/>A very striking dish with all the elements individually plated. The chia had a lovely dark blue colour, just the right consistency, not too mooshy.  It's made using “butterfly blue” tea that changes colour when you add lemon.<br/><br/>Eggs Benny $20 - Braised beef cheek, watercress, poached eggs, jalapeño hollandaise on sweet potato waffles<br/>Sweet potato waffles were fantastic - crispy texture on the edges but soft in the middle. You could really taste the flavour of the sweet potatoes and the waffles felt a bit naughty, like sweet potato fries! Beef cheek flavoursome but mild and reasonably moist. The hollandaise was a bit light on, we would have liked a bit more. Lightly applied and buttery. Having a bit more punch from the jalapeño would have taken this to the next level - we expected a bit more out of the hollandaise as it was called out on the menu. We would have liked a bit more hollandaise and a bit more punch to an otherwise tasty but mild dish.<br/><br/>Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta $20 - chocolate pana cotta, salted caramel honeycomb, biscuit crumb, roasted peanuts, banana, strawberries, raspberries and red velvet tuile.<br/>Quite a dense and thick pana that was really chocolatey. I loved the salted caramel sauce underneath and the honeycomb tasted fantastic, although I only found a couple of pieces so would have loved a bit more. the striking red velvet tuile and the fresh fruit really made this dish pop - and the fruit balanced out the heavy sweetness. A lovely dessert dish - quite rich so perhaps you MIGHT considerer sharing it if you think you're capable of that ;)*we were invited to dine at Bentwood

Bentwood only opened up this year, but being part of the Melbourne mega-brunch group of Tinker, My Other Brother etc. it really sets the brunch expectations high in the trendy suburb of Fitzroy. Furnished with a rustic, brick interior, complete with high ceilings, Bentwood has plenty of unique and innovative dishes like their famous Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta, or Butterfly Chia pudding that is sure to leave a delicious, lasting impression!
Ross Crisp
I like Bentwood a lot. Service is great. It's off the main beat, that's good. Parking is tight but worth a short walk for a great coffee, a salad or a chilli omlette.

Very happy to have stumbled across Bentwood on Zomato as I was looking for somewhere new to go. Wonderful venue and very friendly staff (our waitress was lovely). The food was amazing! Definitely want to return. Thanks for the great experience!

It was fairly early in the morning, and I had just picked up my dose of Lune croissants. After a quick scope of the area, I decided I’d check out Bentwood. The experience was pleasant overall and kudos to the staff for being very friendly and attentive. The Golden Gaytime panna cotta was silky smooth, and incredibly rich in terms of flavour. I’d definitely recommend trying it, if you have a sweet tooth
Jake
Food, service and interior design were all wonderful, until they sprung a weekend 10% surcharge on us, which on top of the somewhat already expensive menu, there was disappointingly no mention of the surcharge. Paying 10.80 for a tiny smoothie out of a mason jar for example means I won’t be heading back
SeanyB
Really nice and possibly a 5 rating on its day. A great vibe with reasonably friendly staff. The Chilli scrambled eggs were flavoursome and satisfying just lacking a relish or jam on the side. I wouldn’t bother with the milkshakes, light on and plain. No complaints on the coffee though. A good experience and will be back at some stage.

Closer to 3.5<br/><br/>Bentwood is a lovely spot situated in fitzroy, where all the other awesome brunch places were. With so many options, its hard to really decide, but I will say if you like a twist on your eggs benny, I would definitely come to Bentwood. <br/><br/>They are known for their golden gaytime panna cotta, but I would actually come here for their sweet potato waffle eggs benedict instead. <br/><br/>Eggs Benedict - what I really like about this dish is that it's served on a sweet potato waffle. If you love sweet potatoes, this is the dish for you! The waffle itself is soft and moist, and have a strong taste of the sweetness of the root vegetable. The crispiness the waffle iron does to the exterior gives it a bit of texture. That being said, the runny poached egg and the saltiness and tenderness of the beef cheeks makes the dish perfect. <br/><br/>Eggs Scrambled - this was definitely a miss though. I would not order this again as the bread we had with it was well over toasted and hard as a rock. It was definitely not worth the price. The scrambled eggs were ok, but definitely not worth the money. <br/><br/>Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta - rich chocolatey flavours with textured pieces of fruit and other interesting things around the dish. Although it was well made, I wouldnt really say it quite resembled golden gaytime, so not a hit for me, because it didnt deliver its name. However, if they called it a chocolate panna cotta, I wouldve been more satisfied. <br/><br/>Also had a bite of their burger - nothing out of the ordinary but the burger was good. It comes with a milkshake so for the price its not too bad. Patty was juicy and good flavouring. Chips were crispy and a good portion, thick as well. Overall ok. <br/><br/>I think my rating is definitely all for the eggs benedict. The other dishes were relatively simple, but I would come back for the eggs benedict any day.

Bentwood is a great new space! Love the colour scheme and the decor - very suave. The food was also excellent. We had the pancakes and the pulled beef Benedict with sweet potato waffle. I’m a savoury gal and the Benny did not disappoint. Loved the waffle - crunchy and delish. My partner recognised the pancake mix as being the same as Tinker, before we knew Bentwood was related to Tinker! For us, this was the only negative. It’s a strange mix but here, as opposed to Tinker, it was beautifully balanced with all the other elements of the dish. I must admit, I ate a considerable portion! Yum! Staff were super friendly and coffee hot and yummy. All you could ask for! :)

I was invited by Bentwood as a collaboration. The place was so busy! I’m so in love with the decor of the place from outside in. The food is definitely Insta worthy and great tasting also. My favourite was the Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta YUM!! Definitely a great place to have Breakfast/brunch. They were playing some pretty cool jams! Loved the whole vibe of the place. Definitely coming back.

I went here with a bunch of friends. It’s quite easy to access from Melbourne uni. Furthermore, there’s plenty of space to sit (we went at around 1pm). We were seated around this high table; or feet couldn’t touch the ground so it was a bit annoying reaching to our bags. Nonetheless, it was really aesthetically pleasing. The ambience is very warm and the service was really pleasing. ☺️<br/><br/>I ordered the Salmon Pokecado, which included sashimi, avocado and a range of other ingredients on dark rye. I was impressed by the taste, but the serving size was too small for me. If they were bigger, I would have given them a 5/5.<br/><br/>They do spilt bills (thank goodness as we have a huge group) and the time they took to serve the food was very reasonable. 😊😊
The_littlehungrylife
The up and coming cafe is just beautifully designed. High ceilings, spacious and yet still has lots of warmth. There is so much room to move, you don’t feel too compacted in one space. I love that is it easy to push a pram in. <br/><br/>The food here is just exquisite! It was so hard to choose. We ended up ordering the hotcakes with extra bacon, salmon pokecado and the bentwood beef burger. All the dishes were so well balanced, flavoursome and beautifully presented! <br/><br/>There is also good parking here, along the side streets. <br/><br/>I really recommend trying the food here! And I can’t wait to pop in again to try more dishes.
Daniel
So yummy. Everything was so delicious. I had the burger, salmon and pancake and recommend all of it. The ambience is very well down and would highly recommend.

Bentwood is one of those cafes that you know will deliver good food as soon as you walk in through the door. In a room full of people, the vibe still remains relaxed but chatty. It’s got that modern industrial look, with plush seating and a burnt orange colour going all around the cafe. <br/><br/>With golden gaytime being one of my favourite type of ice creams, of course I couldn’t resist getting the Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta. Whilst it looked petite and pretty, it fills you up more than you can imagine. The smooth and silky chocolate panna cotta, salted caramel honeycomb biscuit crumb, with banana, strawberries, raspberries and a red velvet tuille , it’s perfect to indulge in for someone with a sweet tooth. But perhaps can get a little too sweet towards the end for a savoury eater like me. Regardless, I was still mesmerised by the gorgeous colours and presentation of the plate. <br/><br/>The eggs benny- a classic brunch dish, and Bentwood’s version of it is just fantastic! The flavoursome braised beef cheek lays on a sweet potato waffle with 2 perfectly poached eggs, and jalapeño hollandaise generously poured over the top. Couldn’t have asked for anything better, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Vanessa
This cafe has got its food presentation down packed. Not to mention, the flavour combinations are amazing. Great service and perfect ambience. I just wish the size of my cappuccino was a tad bigger :) I wasn’t satisfied with just one cup... I love my coffee 😂❤️☕️

It was our 2nd time at Bentwood and we were so glad we went! 😁<br/><br/>Brunch bowl - it had everything you needed to make it into a spectacular dish! Smoked salmon, quinoa, haloumi, cherry tomatoes, poached eggs and more - this was definitely a winner in my eyes! Every bite just kept me begging for more especially the haloumi! 😇<br/><br/>Butterfly blue tea chia pudding - this was an interesting experience as I’ve never had chia pudding before! I was so glad to try this as well as each element of the dish complemented each other very well! The neutral taste of the chia pudding was enhanced with the sourness of the coyo, pomegranates and mango and sweetness of the buckwheat clusters and strawberries! Was surprised how well it all came along together and would have it again! 😍<br/><br/>Overall experience was excellent and consistent with the first time we visited - we had the eggs benny and golden gaytime panna cotta and both were delish! Thank you Bentwood for such an awesome time and keep up the fabulous job! 😘

With the start of a good single origin coffee from Columbia, and a protein shake to top up with their best selling raspberry curd, strawberries and passion fruit with mascarpone Pancakes. Best served cold.

There is a lot of hype around this cafe, and let me say it is 100% worth it! Awesome cafe, ambience is fantastic, large space that is accomodating to groups and allows more diners at once ! Friendly, attentive and professional staff. Swift and quick to the point which is good when you need to get to work after breakfast ! Coffee was beautiful and came with a little card explaining a little bit about The tastes and where the coffee is sourced. Thought that was a lovely touch! <br/><br/>The food we had was amazing, both meals were full of flavour, servings were generous, prices felt fair and the food was fresh! <br/><br/>We had chilli 🌶 scrambled eggs - $20 <br/>With bacon, coriander, cherry tomatoes, Vietnamese mint, fried shallots and Parmesan on sourdough<br/><br/>We also had the Brunch Bowl - $19 <br/>Which was served warm with Kale , quinoa, cashew basil pesto, cherry tomatoes , haloumi, a poached egg, avocado, hemp seeds, yoghurt and pita chips. <br/>You can also add salmon for an extra $4.50 which i feel would’ve made the meal taste better but then have been too large a meal ! <br/><br/>No faults here !
Steph
Pancakes / hotcakes are amazing. Coffee is also really good. Definitely one of my favourite brunch places and also very aesthetically pleasing in cafe interior design. Must go.

Bentwood was a delicious find in the residential streets of fitzroy. There is so much free parking on the street you have nothing to worry about. The cafe is large and possibly not to well known which is why we got a seat right away at 8.30am on a Saturday morning. Couch like seating with sturdy tables and chairs. A pretty red coffee machine and you can see the chef at work behind the glass window.<br/>Their coffee is delicious whether it be a chocolatey extra hot mocha or a creamy latte<br/><br/>Their service is quick and staff very patient as we had to send them away 5 times before we were ready to order<br/>We ordered the quinoa brunch bowl which included cherry tomatoes xashewnut pesto a yummy poached egg. The chilly scrambled eggs win the prize though with small lashings of bacon a kick from the chilli and creamy eggs atop a delicious sourdough<br/>Our bill all up for two dishes and two coffees was 52 dollars so it is definitely on the pricier side.

First time visit to Bentwood in Fitzroy and have to question why i haven't come earlier.<br/><br/>The cafe is really nice, love the exposed brick and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Coffees were great, the chai latte went down a treat on this cold Sunday morning.<br/><br/>Menu is very similar to its other venues, my partner and I went for the brunch bowl and smashed avo. Both selections were really nice, plenty of flavor and would pick these again.<br/><br/>Overall a really good experience, we would visit again!<br/><br/>

Their espresso machine stole my heart, then their food menu pampered it. Service is attentive, without compromising that friendly welcoming vibe. The Bikini Salad and Salmon are my favourite here.

Love this cafe, the interior is gorgeous, the food is amazing and the staff are lovely. The leather aprons are a really nice touch. Have been 3 times and each time is just as pleasant as the one before. There's always a great number of dogs to watch through the windows on weekends too!

In my opinion bentwood is one of the best brunch places there is in Melbourne. The interior design is on point and love the terracotta colors. <br/><br/>THE GOOD:<br/>1. The Granola bowl was one if the best i have ever had super perfect creaminess from the blended elements and great crunch.<br/><br/>FAVOURITE DISH 💯: 2. A MUST order is their EGGS BENNY -> it was SUPER, unlike traditional eggs benny these are on sweet potato waffles, come with braised beef cheeks and need i mention Jalapeno hollandaise (don’t worry its not spicy). It definitely left me wanting more.<br/><br/>3. Great Interior Design.<br/>4. Good Coffee.<br/>5. They do all their dishes well.<br/><br/>THE UNPLEASANT:<br/>1. For some maybe price will be an issue but i think with the amount of food you get and the quality it’s alright and similar to few other places in Melbourne.<br/>2. The service was very different between the waiting staff. It was great with one and unpleasant with the other. This is something they can improve.<br/><br/>Overall it was amazing and definitely a place worth your visit in Melbourne. I personally can’t wait till next time. 🙌🏼
Bel Wilson
I wanted to love this place, aesthetically it was beautiful, the menu gave off great vibes I was excited but to be honest, the wait staff were a bit rude at times, I found I had to work really hard to get someone's attention and I ordered the granola bowl, which sounded heavenly but was pretty lacking, the oats felt maybe even burnt, there was a lot of yogurt which was delicious but ratio in the bowl wasnt great and for the price the serve wasn't generous. The cakes were a positive light in this tunnel though, delicious and fantastic level of sweet & beautifully presented. The coffee was also pretty good.<br/>Overall I'd find it hard to come back which was disappointing becuse it seemed like a really good escape amidst a busy area.

If you’ve never heard of the Golden Gaytime Pannacotta at Bentwood, you cannot count yourself as a brunch expert. We visited the bustling little cafe located just off the main drag in Fitzroy on a lovely Sunday morning. The decor is striking, with the entire place decked out in a deep brick red with wooden tones. It’s a unique space which really works well to create a warm atmosphere in a large, open space.

One of the newly discover from us, we love the environment there, find that very enjoyable , food is great too. just the music a bit too loud, a bit hard to have a good conversation.

First time at bentwood and definitely won’t be the last, so many different dishes I wanted to try! I had the heirloom carrots with goats cheese, broccolini and poached eggs I really enjoyed it, my friend has had the salmon pokecado on a couple of occasions and gives it a thumbs up 👍🏻 Laura Simionato

Food was amazinggggg! So delish and presented really nicely. I love how creative they are. Staff were so attentive & really lovely. We will be back!

Hidden away in a side street of Fitzroy, you’ll come across the super cool, stylish warehouse cafe Bentwood. From the crew behind Penta, Tinker and My Other Brother you can expect nothing short of amazing. The interior is jaw dropping, with exposed brick, terracotta tones and minor details like engraved quotes on the ground – they really do go all out. What sets this cafe apart from the rest is space, unlike the rest of the gang, Bentwood is spacious with it’s high ceilings and segregated set out.

What a beautiful spot of Brunch Bentwood was! <br/><br/>We had an absolute spread today and went wild with taking photos, because the food was just so delectable. Starting with delicious green tea matcha latte, then followed by the Pokecado which was a delightful stack of sashimi and greens on prime sourdough. Just for some added deliciousness the grilled salmon on zucchini noodles came next, which was my favourite dish of the day! Subtle and strong flavours balanced on a swathe of fresh zucchini noodles, what more can you ask for! <br/><br/>Then because we were on a roll, got desserts as well and they definitely came through and blew us away with the hotcakes that actually had a cake-like consistency and beautiful meringue; and last but not at all least that magical Golden Gaytime panna cotta I mean just look at it! Could barely eat it because it was next level prettiness, but we did anyway. Because it was delish. And we’re super brave. <br/><br/>Will definitely be back, and thank you to the staff and good people of Fitzroy for being so lovely about us goofing about taking stacks of photos! 💙

Visited Bentwood on a Sunday and were very lucky to find a seat. Recommend booking before going on a weekend.<br/>Loved the warm colours on the inside of the venue. Staff were very accommodating and explained the dishes on the menu quite well.<br/>We loved the eggs benny, the braised beef was very tender and flavoursome. Heirloom Carrots were beautifully presented and i loved the addition of the goat's cheese to this dish. Showstopper as you can see would have to be the golden gaytime pannacotta. What can I say? Not only was the pannacotta of the perfect consistency, it had just the right amount of chocolate in it. The red velvet tuile grabbed my attention straight away, attention to detail is what distinguishes Bentwood from the rest. Highly recommend!!!

Big shout out to lovely/friendly female running the list for peeps waiting for tables 👏. Thank you for seating us as quickly as you could and the courtyard was super cool for catching up with visitors , and hearing all the conversation 👏. The food and drinks were 10/10 as was the table service. 😻. Forgot my coffee bean refill tin but my 1k bag should last a little longer 👍

This place would certainly earn five stars if it wasn’t for the small and overpriced food and coffee portions. Both food and coffee (small soy latte for 6 dollars with no option for a large non-paper cup) were really delicious, but we ended up paying 70 dollars for the two of us, when we normally pay 50-55 dollars. Setting aside the price issue, the atmosphere is really nice and the waiters friendly.

I came here as part of a big group today of roughly 30 people. I ordered a matcha latte made on coconut milk. Sadly it was quite weak. Maybe a touch more matcha powder and it would’ve hit the mark. For brunch I had the chilli scrambled eggs on gluten free bread with a side of potato parmesan Rosti. Absolutely outstanding. Flavoursome and great presentation. In fact, most of the group ordered the eggs! I would definitely come back and like to try their other items. Hopefully a change in menu is in order for a little bit more variety.

Having fallen in love with Penta in Elsternwick, we were excited to come visit Bentwood. We thought our food was okay but not nearly as amazing as what we had at Penta. Chilli scrambled eggs and Eggs Benny were just very average, and we've definitely had many better versions elsewhere.
Roland_8
Very spacious and kids friendly. Service is nice. Tried the eggs benny and the sweet potato waffle base was very impressive. What a wonderful surprise. Coffee was decent.
Jing
i quite like the food. Chilly scrambled eggs are well cooked and the mango lassi is very refreshing. i find the price is a little bit too high for the food. also the music is way too loud for some one who wants to have a quite brunch time.

Just off Brunswick Street is lovely Bentwood. Great ambience, great service and heaps to choose from on the menu!<br/>Coffee and chai are both really good.<br/>The Benny is one of a kind, who would have thought of beef brisket, sweet potato waffles and jalapeno hollandaise??? Amazing!<br/>Brunch Bowl was nice, crunchy and refreshing.<br/>Sweet options are amazing as well<br/>Golden gaytime pannacota - I would have liked more salted caramel here, but otherwise beautifully chocolate pannacota, great combination of elements.<br/>Hotcakes were lovely! More cake-like than pancake like which I loved! The mascarpone went well with it as well.<br/>Will be back!
Isra Taleb
I ordered the brunch bowl (I think it’s called) which was delicious, however the poached egg could’ve been cooked better. <br/><br/>My friend ordered the panna cotta , which was yummy as well - however it is a shared dessert and is too heavy & sweet to be eaten alone. <br/><br/>Will definitely come back again! Highly recommended 🤤 4.5 stars ⭐️
Gemma
Worth the wait time for the panna cotta alone. Bentwood exceeded my expectations on service and food. Coffee was good and the smoothie blends stunning and tasty
Kylie Angelika
Have dined her twice and been very happy twice! I ordered the same thing both times, the quinoa salad with extra haloumi and both times it was absolutely delicious. The place has a lovely feel, the chai was perfect, the staff are lovely. Would love more gf options but even so I'll definitely be back!!
Chris Anders
Just a well done, absolutely slick operation.<br/><br/>The menu is written with an eye toward pleasing even the pickiest customer, while also remaining interesting. My partner cannot get enough of the Quinoa salad, and I really enjoyed the neat play on a pokè bowl - which is served as an avocado toast. <br/><br/>The floor staff are attentive - without becoming overbearing. <br/><br/>The fit is interesting, practical and comfortable.<br/><br/>This is everything that a Melbourne Cafe should be. Others would do well to take notes.
Hangry Dreamer
Very few places are capable of kicking up such a huge fuss over one dish but boy has Bentwood managed to achieve that with the Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta. Time to check out this legendary dessert and what else this inner suburbs haven has to offer!. From the people behind Penta, Tinker and MOB - I had high expectations walking in. As usual the space is beautiful with little touches such as quotes hidden on the floors and walls that added lots of character to the space. It was very spacious and bright with a rustic feel due to the warehouse space it is situated. One down side to this thought is that there is a lot of ambient noise so find a quiet corner for yourself or take one of the outdoor seats for those more intimate chats.
Places To Lunch
Bentwood is a fairly new cafe in Fitzroy, opening just before Christmas in 2017! I've been to this cafe numerous times and each time does not disappoint. My favourite sweet dishes would have to be the golden gaytime panna cotta and hotcakes but if you're more into those savoury dishes, the classic smashed avocado, salmon pokecado or braised spiced lamb may be for you! They have great coffee, great service and a great menu selection. I can't wait to pay the team at Bentwood another visit in the next few weeks and maybe I'll see you there!
Natalia Naa
I’ve been going back again and again because food is da bomb dot com and the staff are super duper friendly (kudos to you guys!)! The pannacotta is a highlight and so are the bikini salad and salmon pokecado 😍
Whenfoodsonpoint
Wow!! Check out the hot cakes at this cafe in Fitzroy! Beautifully presented and also very yummy. We found been here before and always find each dish has a gorgeous presentation so if you're looking for an instagramable photo, be sure to pop in! We also had the smashed avo which we highly recommend trying.
Quynh
Came late on a Sunday afternoon, we had the braised spiced lamb and the bikini salad. Both were enjoyable, portions were pretty big. Would have liked it with more pickled red cabbage to balance out the dish more. The menus throughout Penta/ Tinker and Bentwood are pretty much the same so I wouldn't be rushing to come back. Service was good and attentive.
Food Comatose
I love everything about this place - the huge refurbished warehouse, the super friendly (and might I add attractive) staff and the exceptional menu! I really respect their subtle marketing too. They’re not pushy or over the top, but they know they’re good. That’s why people from all over Melbourne have sought this new player in the brunch game. I ordered the salmon pokecado and it was so fresh and tasty. With pineapple, wasabi citrus and lashings of avocado, the combination of unique flavours was incredible!
Qianyi Lillian Li
Went there for brunch on Sunday, staff were so nice. <br/>My friend and I shared eggs benny and the salmon one. Highly recommend eggs benny, the sweet potato waffles were soooo special and tasty. <br/>Will definitely come again!
FoodN
Nice atmosphere but food is just ok. Poached eggs were not runny. Portion sizes are small. I don’t think that they could cut the toast any thinner if they tried. One piece of toast only and avocado side was like a garnish. Many better venues available nearby
Munching Pandas
Bentwood is a relatively new cafe in fitzroy, we were really enthusiast to try this one since everyone have asked us lately. Right. The first time we get there we can see a long queue during lunch time but we went on public holiday anyway. so its fine<br/><br/>Once we get in, we can see that the place is quite spacious. They also got several types of table (for two or four or groups). The staffs are great, even very friendly i must say. We decided to have coffee for starters and we ordered many variety of foods. without anymore of the chitchat we will go straight away to the review<br/><br/>we ordered:<br/>1. egg benny with mushroom<br/>2. hotcakes<br/>3. golden gaytime pannacotta<br/>4. braised spice lamb<br/>5. grilled salmon<br/>6. granola bowl<br/><br/>Panda:<br/>highlight of the day is the pannacotta! perfect texture and taste, wonderfully plated, great choice of fruit combination and sauce.<br/><br/>egg benny was ok as well, never dissapoints to have some eggs and mushrooms and they cook it damn well<br/><br/>they put the food on a warm plate which is good<br/><br/>beautiful food presentation<br/>beside food, the staffs are really friendly<br/><br/>great interior and very comfy to chat with friends!<br/><br/>pandon't:<br/>what we want to emphasize the most is on timing, we literally put the stopwatch and it takes them 38 minutes to serve the first dish (although all the dish served together). Having a packed restaurant is not a valid excuse for a late service<br/><br/>grilled salmon : was not cooked unevenly and a bit overcooked on the outside (a bit burnt), need to increase the proportion of the noodle<br/><br/>hotcakes : although the fruits and sauce were tasty, the dough for the cakes itself was a bit too dense<br/><br/>Coffee was too watery and latte art was terrible :(<br/><br/>it is quite unfortunate for us not to come in their peak performances. we ended up waiting too long for the meal and the meal does not worth the 40 minutes wait. However we are really looking forward for their better service in the future.

This place was very busy and was hidden in beautiful fitzroy. i had a coffee and the chilli scrambled eggs. i really enjoyed my meal. the customer service was great aswell. great to see staff smile

After finally making it to Bentwood after all the rage on Instagram, I understand the hype and am definitely all for it! The interior is fabulous and super comfortable! Staff at the front door were fantastic and friendly! However, it do show up at around 10am-11am on a Saturday morning, the wait times are through the roof and the waiting area is a bit squishy and awkward. I ordered the ever-so-famous Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta and was in absolute heaven! 🤤🤤❤️ Super decadent, dense and the Golden Gaytime taste was laced the whole way through the dish. It was delish! I highly rate their coffee as well! 🎉 It is 110% exactly what the hype is all about and I couldn’t recommend it more - just make sure you get there nice and early! 😌
George David Michaelides
Eggs Benny here is just wow! <br/>The beef cheek is a nice change from pulled pork or bacon, the jalapeno keeps it interesting without overpowering the dish and the sweet potato waffles were crunchy and seasoned to almost perfection
Thalia Cottis
One of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. Consistent with quality of food, service and coffee. Absolutely love the setup and atmosphere. The chilli scrambled eggs, braised spiced lamb and the golden gaytime panacotta are definitely some of my favourites
LittleM
7 of us popped by here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The cafe was half full by then however we manage to get a table. The cafe has an aesthetic feel which was spacious and well litted. A few of us ordered the chilli scrambled eggs, while the others ordered the eggs benny and the salmon poke dish. I enjoyed my chilli scrambled dish, however found it slightly too spicy that I had to pick aside the chillies in it. Otherwise, it was a generous portion size and I enjoyed the breakfast here. Would recommend!!
Connie
I loved the food and service here! The golden gaytime was an incredible dish!! I would definitely recommend trying this dish 😍 the smoothies were also so fresh
@twogoodtoresist
Sporting a gorgeous ambience and set up, we really loved our visit to bentwood! The coffee is fantastic and the food is great too! Our top dishes was the pokecado (combining the current craze of poke with everyone’s beloved avo smash) as well as the golden gaytime panacotta. You can also never go wrong with their smoothies or salmon zoodle dish! We will definitely be back to try more!
Espy Eats
I have been wanting to come here to Bentwood for the longest time and as such was absolutely excited to invited along by one of my foodie friends as their plus one to try the menu.<br/><br/>This huge cafe takes up its space in a largely residential area of Fitzroy and is a morning sun trap. There was a short queue before being seated and given my enthusiasm for the menu we already knew what we wanted to order. <br/><br/>Other than my essential Sunday morning skinny latte we also ordered the granola bowl, golden gaytime Panna Cotta and the butterfly blue tea chia pudding. I had also heard great thanks Ng’s about the smoothies here so we ordered the beetroot one and the mango one.<br/><br/>The smoothies came first and looked a treat, bold colours in both. The mango smoothie was a blast and was a familiar smoothie for me, while the beetroot smoothie had more of an earthy flavour and was balanced more so towards beetroot than berries and the other ingredients.<br/><br/>Our breakfast and coffee orders arrived shortly after the smoothies and these were a visual feast. The granola bowl had a familiar feeling about it and I realised that it is identical to the bowl at penta. I loved this bowl and the generous peanut butter and perfect presentation.<br/><br/>The chia pudding was also quite nice with the blue chia paste flavoursome and the buckwheat clusters which where quite firm and chewy. This dish is vegan but the coconut faux yo definitely didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the dish... vegan food has come a long way.<br/><br/>Last but not least the golden gaytime panna which was one rich chocolate Panna Cotta with bananas nuts and caramel and berries. I loved this dish and it was certainly one rich one. I’m was glad to have been sharing this dish as I would have left in a sugar coma had I had this dish all to myself. It’s was a lovely dish but I wouldn’t say the taste resembled golden gaytime particularly. Don’t let that put you off trying this dish... it was exceptional.<br/><br/>Certainly enjoyed my time here and am appreciative of the indirect invite 👏👏
The Official Food Hunters
Love love the design and layout of this cafe! It’s so cozy and cute far from your normal typical cafes. Now onto the foods.. had the eggs benny which was on a bed of sweet potato waffle - delicious but the waffle wasn’t as crunchy as I hoped. Tried the Nutella smoothie (or was it a milkshake?) it was so runny and not what I was expecting, could not finish the drink. I advise them to make them a little thicker which makes them more enjoyable to drink. Also tried the chia pudding which was okay but not recommended since the buckwheat was actually rock hard and I could barely hack into it! The chia pudding itself was nice with the coyo, could really taste the health and freshness pulled together with the mango jerky which I enjoyed. But overall needs a bit of work and upgrade before I return
Tiffany
Super super cute place! I had the smashed avo - so so much avo on it, it was amazing! The small addition of the pomegranate seeds and chilli was a nice little touch that just brightened the dish so much! Lovely staff and quick service.
The Brunch Buff
If your meals are forgotten, you’d expect for your bill to be forgotten too. Not the case here though and our food took one hour to come out. Won’t be back.
Hello. Imnikki
The first thing that caught our eyes were the gorgeous fit-out and the comforting shades of orange used throughout the cafe. Spacious, bright and airy, there was ample distance between most tables so you don’t have to worry about eavesdropping on others’ conversation and vice versa. Relaxed and friendly service added to the charm of this place. <br/><br/>The food and coffee are praiseworthy, and are deservedly so. The brunch bowl offered up a combination of delectable textures, and was packed full of flavours. The heirloom carrots was no different, and we added a cheeky side of bacon to balance out all the healthiness on the plate. The latte and beetroot smoothie were on point, and of course, we expected nothing less from a cafe of such calibre.
Simply Eat
This place seems like the new talk of the town atm. I get why. Well decorated space with beautifully presented food.<br/>I had the salmon pokecado.($20) This was delicious. Fresh and flavourful. Good twist on the smashed avo.<br/><br/>My friend had the bowl ($17). This was also delicious and beautifully presented<br/><br/>Now onto their famous golden gaytime Panna Cotta ($20)<br/><br/>This was a let down. Despite how beautiful and perfect it is, it's just too sweet. Too much chocolate ? ( Yes it can happen ) sharing between 2 it was too sweet and sickening to finish. I recommend 3 or 4 share this. Unless you're really into sweets....<br/><br/>Apart from the Panna Cotta, everything else was amazing
Shaun
Delicious food and good portion size - had the eggs Benny and loved the sweet potato waffles! Nice interior with lots of natural light. Standard bunch prices.
Tilly Kooy
Great cafe with a great atmosphere. The coffee was really good and the food was lovely, though a little overpriced. Be weary as it does tend to get quite loud when it is busy.
XiaoHui Teo
Great cafe with lots of space and light, interesting menu plus friendly staff. I ordered the salmon pokecado which all the elements just go so well together and fresh!
Penguineats
Situated in the very trendy inner suburb of Fitzroy, Bentwood offers its young patrons a healthy and wholesome brunch fare that’s bound to satisfy.<br/>The generous portions, well-balanced flavours and textures and indulgent choices certainly impressed, and as the newest member in this ever growing cafe group, Bentwood has surely become one of our favourites.
Hangry Horace
My friends and I came here for lunch on a Wednesday. The place was very chic and we were seated almost immediately. The food was amazing! I loved the eggs benny dish. The sweet potato waffles were the star of the dish. They were crispy and soft in the centre. My friends were also gushing about their lamb salads which were to die for. We had a fabulous time at Bentwood and will be revisiting soon.
BitchUnhealthy
Loved visiting Bentwood. The interiors are gorgeous and the menu is long and difficult to choose from all their great options. The panna cotta was one of the best I’ve ever had and the hotcakes ranked a 9/10!
Miilu
Cool industrial fit out, very Fitzroy. The highlight was the chilli scrambled eggs - this was delicious and had a bit of a kick! get it with the potato rosti as that was very yummy too and came out in a rectangular shape - different to the normal fritter style rostis out there. Pancakes were pretty yummy too
Luca Hunter
Don’t bother, overpriced cookie cutter feel, music was far too loud and staff who give you incorrect change and fail to apologise when you go back to ask for the other ten dollars you are owed- <br/>Poor hospitality indeed!
Perry
Catch up with my friend, decided to go this brand new place just opened last month I remembered. I’m guessing it’s Tuesday, they aren’t so many people here. I had The Bikini Salad, while my friend had skinny flat white and smashed avo. Overall it’s pretty good. I love the atmosphere and the decoration. Hopefully they can have their specials or more vegan dishes hahahah.
Kate Dougherty
Spacious and trendy cafe with broad menu and friendly staff. I went for the eggs benny which came with slow cooked beef brisket, 2 poached eggs and jalapeño hollandaise on sweet potato waffles. I loved the unusual spin on the standard brunch dish. The waffles were especially light and flavoursome. My only comment is that they could have been slightly more generous with the beef.
We8melbourne
This new place in Fitzroy is the place to be! The interior is spectacular and the food is fresh and absolutely delicious. The stand out dish was the Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta. We are not sweet tooth’s but we could eat this everyday. If you haven’t been get here quick! Not to be missed.
Clarinna
Went here for brunch or more like lunch yesterday since we arrived around 1, the place was still busy so we had to wait like 20mins. You could order some coffees and have a seat while waiting so this is good. Coffee was really good. It was not full house but the food took a while and they seem to be understaffed since we had to keep looking for staffs to call. The dishes were really good, i had the egg benny which comes with sweet potato waffle so it was interesting. The hollandaise sauce was really creamy and buttery. My friend really enjoyed his grilled salmon and zucchini noodles, which looks really healthy but tastes delicious. The spiced lamb was good but a bit too much after eating half of it. We also ordered the golden gaytime which we thought was amazing, but it wasn’t really panacotta more like a thick chocolate mousse. Will definitely go back again.
Tom Donovan
Service was good! The granola bowl with açai on the other hand was absolutely horrible. After having asked for the açai to be super thick it was runnier than the first bowl that came out and was sent back! Overall, overpriced and definitely overrated! 😆
Abbey Baldacchino
The food was so lovely and the service amazing, however there are SO little vegan options and I think I may have been given honey in my tumeric latte :/
Eating Away Melbourne
Finally tried the new cafe in Fitzroy. Ordered the chia not really my favourite chia. Taste was a bit bland and the crispy bits of the dish was really sticky. Couldn’t really finish it. Ordered a pancake as well it was lovely. Coffee and service were both pleasant.
MMiguel
Way too overpriced; 2 eggs, 1 tbsp of “beef cheeks picked meat” , 1 tbsp hollandaise sauce on a single dry toast = 20 dollars! <br/><br/>Not sure if it is because hipster are more than happy to pay for overpriced stuff or what but I’m not one of them! <br/><br/>Service is the only good thing.<br/>
Suzie Scribbles
Bentwood is the new Fitzroy café from the Tinker family. It’s the kind of place you almost stumble upon unknown as despite occupying a large corner unit, it’s on an inconspicuous side street. We were invited to visit, try some of their brunch menu and check out this new café.
Dale Kruse
Yet another uppity Fitzroy millennial cafe with a breakfast focus: eggs, eggs and more eggs on the menu, and the obligatory turns on smashed avocado, chia, quinoa and açaí. Poor, snooty service, (waited over ten minutes for a menu to be brought to my table; had to get up and ask for one, even though the cafe wasn’t busy) average coffee, meagre portions and hyper-expensive prices (to pay for the architecturally inventive fitout). Like many start-up cafes in this neighborhood, it will flash and burn. Go check it out, but Napier Quarter or Backstreet Eating nearby, are both way ahead in terms of food offerings, service, ambience and price.
Marc Moussi
<br/>Nestled in the quiet part of Fitzroy is this little gem<br/>Quick and friendly service<br/>Extensive menu to choose from<br/>Had the Golden Gaytime panna cotta<br/>Rich and decadent<br/>Very pleasing<br/>Great atmosphere<br/>Good location and quality service from entrance to exit
KnowingMelbourne
Bentwood is the new cafe brought to you by the people that gave Melbourne Penta Elsternwick and Tinker Northcote (amongst others). I think their most famous dish has to be their Pannacotta. It is a Golden Gaytime iteration of this breakfast trend and it is delicious! Chocolate Pannacotta, honeycomb biscuit crumb, salted caramel, peanuts, raspberries, banana and strawberries topped with what looked to be red velvet tuille. I highly recommend this dish. Save it til last though, oh and you’ll probably need to share it :-)<br/>I also had the Bikini Salad which you can order with a side of tuna mix, chicken or Halloumi. I chose the Halloumi and it was the standout part of the dish. The salad itself was nice, with kale, wild rice, puffed rice, cabbage, quinoa, sweet corn, carrot, kidney beans, pomegranate, hummus and spiced dressing. For me, the dressing was a little too tangy, it sort of overpowered the dish. But it was still refreshing and I knew it was good for my insides! <br/>My friend had the burger which comes with a serve of chips and your choice of shake or soft drink. The burger patty was full of flavour and the bacon was Smokey and super tasty. We got the Nutella shake which is a must for Nutella lovers. <br/>I’ll definitely be back! What a great addition to fitzroy’s cafe scene.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Julien Moussi, of Penta, Tinker and MOB fame, has just opened his latest cafe in Fitzroy. Bentwood is an appropriate name, given the site was once the address of a furniture manufacturer. The cafe is much larger than the others. The umber colour scheme meshes with exposed brick, giving it a modern-fused-with-heritage look that’s quite different too.
Ava Grist
Overpriced for extremely small serving sizes!!! Pretty interior and good service but much better other options in the area for the price you’re paying!
Teresa.active.foodie
Couldn’t wait to try Bentwood as I had a really good experience at their sister branch Penta Elsternwick. As expected, Bentwood was just as great as Penta (and much more convenient to me!). I loved it so much that I came back less than a week later. <br/>The beetroot smoothie was amazing. On my first visit I had the bikini salad with extra halloumi. This salad was jam-packed with flavour and didn’t disappoint. On my second visit, I had to try their famous Nutella pannacotta. Definitely lived up to the hype. My brunch buddies all loved their meals too. Highly recommended!
Followthefoodmelbourne
I had such high expectations for Bentwood after seeing so many amazing photos of their food on social media and I was not disappointed! <br/>The heirloom carrots dish was excellent - lovely and light and packed full of flavour! However, the standout was the chia pudding. The combination of coyo, the crunchy buckini granola & mango jerky was outstanding. It also looked absolutely gorgeous on the plate. I also loved the whole aesthetic of the cafe. It appears as if the building is an old converted factory and they’ve kept the outside facade which gives great character to the space. Overall, I’d highly recommend this spot!
DumplingDoll
Came to the much anticipated Bentwood with a girlfriend last week for lunch. Atmosphere and decor were beautiful, simplistic and minimalist. I was there for lunch and was craving the salmon w raw zucchini noodles and a green smoothie. Both delightful and full of flavour, the salmon might be just a little over seasoned but well cooked. I will be back! <br/>
Kemran Mestan
I ordered the lunch salad. I noticed the menu item was marked VO for Vegan Option, all the ingredients looked like plants so out of curiosity I enquired with the waiter. She said the dressing has honey and they will use another dressing with the vegan option, so I went with the VO. But the salad came out undressed. It was just a big pile of dry vegetables. Vegan option does not mean leaving ingredients off, it means substituting ingredients. If you don't have a substitute, then remove the VO from the menu item.<br/>
Hungry Ronin
Nice cafe slightly hidden from the hustle and bustle of Brunswick street. Outstanding coffee and well executed dishes. My salmon with avo and zucchini "spaghetti" was delicious, bravely tinged with spiciness. As you can see from the pics the plating were outstanding. It was slightly demurred and quiet when I was there, perhaps since this place is still kind of new. Won't be long till the foodies catch on.
Melbourne To Mouth
As soon as you hear Bentwood is the newest venture from the Wizards of breakfast in Melbourne who brought us Penta, Tinker and MOB, you know it's gonna be off the charts. <br/><br/>Situated in one of Fitzroy's busiest 'backstreets', Napier, this huge light filled corner spot was just aching to churn out some of this group's faves. I don't wanna believe they've peaked with this particular Panna Cotta concoction because I'm intrigued by what might be still to come, but if they or anyone can top the Golden Gaytime, someone has definitely sold their soul to the devil. If you don't try this soon, you're seriously missing out. Always loving their hotcakes, Bentwood's version with raspberry curd and passionfruit syrup are much sweeter than my faves at Temperance, but still bloody delicious. The beef burger is a staple for those in the mood for something lunch-ier and heartier and the lamb salad is a fresh, light option that missed none of the flavour. A very hearty serving of their now famous chilli eggs rounds out what was yet another amazing meal from these guys. With so many venues now open across Melbourne, it's quite a feat to be able to say none of their dishes misses the mark.<br/><br/>I'm glad they've brought the goods to my favourite suburb in Melbs, even if there's no brûlée bircher (c'mon! Temperance is so far away from meeeee!). Get yourself in if only to try the Gaytime Panna, trust me.

Positives: <br/>Service was really friendly and quick. <br/>The interior of this cafe is stunning. <br/>Extensive menu.<br/>Raw treats.<br/>Split bills. <br/><br/>Negatives: <br/>Coffee was cold. <br/>Forgot one of our meals.<br/><br/>I had the chia pudding which wasn't my most favourite dish of all time. I couldn't finish it as it was really rich and overbearing. The others really enjoyed their meals though!
Cristo2126
The place is lovely. Like the atmosphere here. Staff here are so nice. The food seems to be healthy but just not my taste . Maybe other choices would be better.
Forksake
Another wonderful café by the team that bought us Tinker and Penta. You can find their signature brunch menu favourites such as my personal favourite, the Sriracha baked salmon with zucchini noodles with edamame. The beef benedict with sweet potato waffle is also a winner like everything else on the menu!
Melbrunchin
Massive cafe, friendly staff. Had the brunch bowl (same as penta) and chilli scramble, brunch bowl is nice, however chilli scramble just didn’t do it for me as I was expecting something more and it tasted exactly like a quiche (I despise quiche with all my might) quite a small serving also as you would expect more than one slice of bread and to leave feeling full for $20

Loved everything about this cafe! Staff were super nice! <br/>The eggs Benedict with sweet potato waffle & braised beef was perfect! <br/>And the chili scrambled eggs was so so good! <br/>I will definitely come back! <br/><br/>This is not ad lol
