Review Major Major - Fitzroy

George Forgan-Smith
Great spot for coffee and brunch on the Victoria parade end of Smith Street. The food was fresh and not "hipster complex". Good coffee, the pastry selection looked great.

I ordered a Burger and Chips off Uber Eats. Chips were crispy with a delicious side of aioli. I live close and the shop is amazing with very friendly staff. The burger was great juicy and filling yet not too greasy. If you are looking for a delicious burger and drinks this is the place for you!

Coffee here is pretty good but not great. Have been in about 4 or so times. Also got breakfast once but eggs were underdone. So not really a Collingwood favourite for me.

Under new management but same friendly service Great coffee, a wide range of food/snacks for lunch with plenty of tasty and healthy choices. Fast service, great ambience and friendly staff with plenty of seating inside and outside.

Great little place to eat and have coffee. Fantastic range of vegan and vegetarian options with options of meat dishes also. Kale super salad was amazing, good balance of quinoa and kale and the other veggies along with it, nice touch of adding avo too. Friendly and quick service

What a find! I just had the grilled halloumi burger with avocado, pickled beetroot chilli jam and rosemary fries. Gobsmackingly delicious. Lovely staff, warm ambience. Thank you for lifting my spirits.

Best breakfast I've had in a while. Coffee is also lovely and not too hot.

Great place for healthy food too. I had two delicious salads and an amazing smoked tofu sushi roll. Sparkling water on tap and a really delicious ginger beer that wasn't too sweet. Great staff, light, comfortable interior. Really great lunch. Thank you.

Just had a wonderful lunch at Major Major - so great to have something so good at this end of Smith Street finally. Lovely staff, great food and the spritzer was a real treat in the middle of the day! We'll be back soon!

Love that there's always something completely out of my comfort zone to try. Yesterday's Omelette (ham, buttered leeks and cheddar) was amazing! Staff are always friendly and service is spot on!

Great coffee, friendly staff, bright and comfortable cafe. Just across the road from Epworth Victoria Pde - better than Maccas!

The coffee is expertly made with a smooth finish and perfect temperature. A wide variety on the menu

A cool cafe in Fitzroy, Major Major makes a fantastic coffee and has a relaxed feel and ambience. The large space feels clean and modern and service is quick, but friendly.

With an interesting menu, I've enjoyed the food here, and it's fresh and tasty. Also a great place for a takeaway and a quick snack, Major Major is a fab little venue.

We come here religiously for our morning coffees and toasted croissants. Service is always friendly and efficient. The food is also pretty delicious. I had the soup the other day and it was full of flavour.

True Melbourne style cafe with amazing breakfast and great coffee. Really enjoyed the meal here and the attentive service. I wish I could go more often.

Came here with a friend over the summer. The staff were very attentive and friendly and the food was really good. Will be back next time in the area.

Attended a team lunch for 10 people on a week day. Service was friendly and accommodating. The granola was delicious with a cinnamon/nutmeg spice to it.

Great place for breakfast. Had a freshly made roll which was delicious. Coffee is good 2. Recommend this place for breakfast. Only thing was the person serving me didn't seem to know much about the menu. But all in all good place.

A variety of dishes from brunch options to salads to pastries. Everything looked incredible which made it very difficult to decide what to eat.
6 of us came here for our lunch break and everyone was very happy with their choice. They had several specials on which included a smoked salmon omelette, pulled pork burger and a pea and ham soup.
3 of us opted for the pulled pork burger which was fresh and filling yet did not leave you feeling heavy or lethargic. This also came with a side of fries.
The other members or out party ordered the salmon omelette, croque madame and poached eggs on toast. Everything looked wonderful.
The menu items are a little pricier, especially the sausage rolls and savoury pastries. However, they all appear to be homemade.

Absolutely amazing customer service and produce. I came in for lunch one day attracted by the interesting looking food and menu. I was jot disappointed. I ordered a gourmet ham sandwich which was probably the yummiest I have ever had. The ham was to die for. I went back later that week and the staff remembered both my order and name. I'll be back again.

Great coffee, staff were on to it and attentive. I had the grilled haloumi, it tasted a little dry, as did the broccoli, and i wasn't sure how I felt about the carrots and rocket it was served with. and only 1 piece of toast, not enough for 2 eggs!

Avocado-Pea smash (with eggs) was extremely well balanced. The fetta and roasted almond toppings make this dish special. I would come back for the avo, but there's plenty more on offer at Major Major. Great range.

Yummy omelettes! Interesting salads too. I don't know how I feel about food out in the open on the counters with people leaning over them to pay... But lovely staff and hasn't stopped me yet!

Food : Lovely smooth blend of coffee. My skinny latte tastes exactly what it should have tasted like and it arrived nice and hot. Their sandwich display also looked highly appetising.
Service : Efficient. Less than 5 mins from order to coffee arriving despite there being multiple orders.
Ambience : Nice mix of electronic/house/funk being played. Nice windowside bench where I set myself up to do some work from my notebook computer.

Lovely cafe with a great range of homemade pastries and savoury bites. Good coffee and very friendly service. Will definitely go back again.

This is a really cool place.
I've been past a few times and it has alot of positives.
When you walk in it has a real organic cosy vibe.
The counters full of plenty of goodies and the staff are friendly and on the ball.
The menu is this really rustic, authentic, fresh mix with some great influences from alot of places.
Today i ordered the chicken and pinenut stuffing sandwich with aioli and baby spinach and a latte.
The sandwich
Sourdough bread -crisp crust, great texture, its a really nice bread.
Chicken not all dry and very genourous.
Stuffing is bang on
The spinach( its the really little things that show the love of food and care in preperation that makes this place great ) is fresh but lightly dressed with lemon and salt which gives a beautiful zing. The aioli is house made(i think). A touch garlicky today but works well.
Latte is really nice. Smooth, strong and hot.
As normal im really happy with a lunch here and im pretty full.
I really like this place my only critique is the prices are a little more than I like for work lunch ($16 for a coffee and sandwich) and also i feel bad for the staff spending all of the lunch rush reciting what every salad is and prices cause theres no signs or prices listed obviously.
But for the quality and quantity of food and the variety its really nice.
Been here a couple of times for breakfast - great mix of flavours using fresh ingredients, good coffee and creamy hot chocolates too, loved it, highly recommend!
Expensive Delicious Habit.
Visited Major Major for a mid-week lunch last week. I chose a piece of homemade spanakopita and a side salad of fattoush. Everything on my plate was delicious. Not a cheap lunch though, and service is slow.

Simply awesome service. Not just friendly and smiley, but always present without being obsessive. Since the moment you step there is a intense happy going vibe. Background music present but not too loud. Sparkling water was served without having to ask for it. Cappuccino and berry&yoghurt muffin was very well presented. Didn't try any of the major breakfasts but will be back for more, that's for sure.

Soooo yum! The food is great, the atmosphere is great, what else could you want? The only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the cost. It is a bit pricey and especially for drinks but the food makes up for it.

We know we're in trouble when we are asked whether we want one or two poached eggs. $19.50 for 1 anaemic egg on one slice of multigrain and 2 coffees and a tiny oj is truly outrageous. Coffee below par as well. Major major expensive for minor minor product
Very good food and coffee with a very interesting menu that differs from standard fare. Friendly staff and vibe. Also stays open later than most cafes, so it is a nice place to sit and watch the world (or at least Smith Street) walk by. Highly recommend.

Really lovely coffee and muffins here. The white choc and berry was a standout. They were very complimentary towards my dog, which is always a bonus!

Lovely Service. We've had brunch here a few times and the service is always wonderful - there's a particular young waitress with light, reddish hair who is always so polite and friendly - we feel really looked after here. The pancakes are great, as are some of the sandwiches. Delicious coffee too. We'll be back!

This review is a bad news sandwich... A big one.. The decor and environment at Major Major is very fresh, and welcoming. But, I left here actually angered by the food that was served to me. I ordered the bacon and scrambled eggs on flat bread with "green leaf". I joking asked if the leaf was marijuana, turns out it was spinach. Why not write that on the menu? Secondly, when my plate arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see a foam incorporated in the dish. I tasted it to realise it was the "scrambled eggs". An egg foam is not scrambled eggs! This was smeared on top of the bacon that was very fatty and soggy, which in turn was layered on the flat bread which was so crispy it crumbled under my knife. My partner ordered the baked beans that was served with an egg, the egg appeared to be poached by waving it over a pot of lukewarm water, the egg white was mostly transparent. I think I would have been less upset if the menu was more clear about certain things, such as their aversion to cooking eggs. This place's saving grace is the fantastic Duke's Coffee.

Major Major is a hot place to go for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Co-owned by Niall Sandison (formerly of Rockpool, Spice Temple and Pope Joan) and Simon Hall, who also manages the Thai-inspired Easy Tiger a few hundred metres down the road, the café has been fashioned out of an industrial space to be light, bright and welcoming.

Delicious. Away from the craziness of Smith street this cafe is a great find. Had lunch there today, was really enjoyable. Service was attentive and friendly, had the 3 types of salad for $12 all three were delicious. And an iced coffee to cool us down was a real delight. We will be back.

A little gem!. Major Major is a gem and ticks all the boxes...
The tonkatsu chicken wrap with slaw is amazing. I’ve had this three times now and my only disappointment was not being able to fit it all in! With all dishes it is clear ingredients are fresh and high quality. The coffee is beautiful too!
The ratio of staff to customers is such that service is efficient and you feel taken care of. The place has a certain charm without being pretentious. Staff who work here obviously take pride in all these aspects and having customers leaving feeling happy – which I sure do.

Love the space, great coffee, tasty food and lovely super-friendly staff. Best thing has to be the free sparkling water, refreshing and classy!

Delicious purezza sparkling h20 with espresso. A must go to place for aficionados of tonkatsu chicken (wrap with buttermilk slaw) & cured & smoked offerings (kingfish sanga with wasabi Mayo & fresh fennel)

Major Major opened at the southern end of Smith Street late in 2014 and I visited not long after for lunch with my family and we were all mightily impressed with the food. B and I decided it was about time we returned to try their breakfast offerings and I actually remembered to take my camera this time! It was an incredibly warm morning so I started with a Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($4) which was delicious, not too sweet and with a nice caffeine hit as well. B ordered his regular English Breakfast Tea ($4) which came in a gorgeous tea cup and a fancy tea pot, although he did say he would have hoped to get more than one cups worth out of it. The food is Asian infused cafe food, with a range of eggs, pancakes, sandwiches and pastas on the menu. Some items are available all day with the pastas and other larger dishes available after 10.30am. They also have seasonal salads on display in the cabinet, as well as homemade baked treats like muffins and slices which change daily so there is always something new to try! B ordered the smoked eggplant, sugo, scrambled egg, provola cheese and spiced greens flatbread wrap ($15) which he thoroughly enjoyed. The smokey eggplant made for an excellent alternative to a standard scrambled eggs breakfast and the flatbread was deliciously spongey. Despite being called a wrap there were far too many fillings to successfully wrap it up, but B happily chipped away at it with a knife and fork instead (which also made it easier for me to steal bits to try!). I ordered the baked beans ($16) which normally comes with Vietnamese sausage but they happily swapped it out for mushrooms for me to make it vegetarian friendly. It was also served with a 63 egg and toast soldiers and it’s safe to say I didn’t need to eat again for most of the day afterwards! The beans were full of flavour and whilst I was glad they weren’t cooked to a mush, some of them could have been cooked a little longer as they verged on the edge of undercooked. On the other hand the

...Major Major is a fresh addition to the McDonald’s end of Smith Street. Dukes’ coffee, hot flatbread wraps, beer on tap and a succinct breakfast and lunch menu is pumped out of this low-ceilinged, industrial inspired, welcoming space. We grab a spot at the window and help ourselves to the free sparkling water (we like)...cheeky Negroni available. They’ve only been open a couple of months but Major Major is sure to become a popular fixture on this block and is already well likeable. Good to know: Coffee $3.50-$4.50 Vietnamese...
