I enjoyed the coffee, the space, the warm attentiveness of the staff, and the easygoing tunes during my first time here. It was all very relaxed when I went. Sometimes you just need a pub where you can hang your hair loose. Haven't tried the food or liquor but would certainly consider doing so in the future.
Joe's garage is a great place for a feed, their food is reasonable but I like their deserts and the choices of cakes, New York cheesecake is sensational. The place serves lots of beverages, they serve alcohol too. The service was good and friendly and their prices are reasonable. 👍
This is the place where I fell in love with dining out. As we always remember our first love, I can never forget my first Lamb Shank from Joe's Garage. Brunswick Street has changed so much since my year 10 work experience days where I worked as a barista in training at the Hide-Out Cafe circa 2001, this is my first love. And if anyone is wondering around Brunswick, make you try the Shank. Your taste buds will thank you for it. After a 10 year absence, I went back earlier this year and with all good food, it brought back memories of my youth with one taste. That's the magic and beauty of food. Just like your favorite song is to music, this dish is mine for food. #MyLove #JoesGarage
Not bad , we went on a voucher and we came away pleasantly surprised. Very good service , good range on the menu and good specials options. Try it for a value for money night out.
Friendly customer service and a casual funky vibe. We had the bruschetta for starter which was delicious and refreshing, then pastas for mains - really enjoyed my Amatriciana spaghetti, the serving was huge as well. For dessert we chose the apple crumble cake which came with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Yummo! A great spot for a simple no-fuss meal or gathering with friends, recommend this place and I'd definitely come back.
Good portions friendly staff and not full of tourists who ascend on Fitzroy
More likely to meet Fitzroyalty here
Amazing Food Amazing Customer Service!!!. I had the seafood basket and American platter to share.
by far the best platter i have ever had! Joes Garage is never too shy with the portions of food they serve. Everytime i go i will always know i will come out of there with a food coma! I will always go back and give this place a 10/10. The staff and chefs are amazing with great customer service skills too!!!
Great Parmas. Top parmas and top staff
Good Place. Ok, great little pizza place. Kid friendly and staff friendly. Pizzas were good - not great, but good. Really like this place, give it a go.
To me, a humble local, Joe's Garage would have to be one of the most appealing options for those who aren't sure what they feel like eating. Why? Their menu is extensive, covering all the classic options. They serve breakfast until 3pm daily, salads, pizzas, focaccias, pastas, risottos, along with your average pub type food (chicken parmas, nachos, burgers, etc). I have to admit that it is not really a place that I choose to eat in, as I have many other favourites in the area, but on this occasion, my friend had a craving for nachos, and Joe's Garage was the best option for satisfying that craving so off we went. We went in for a very early dinner so there were only a small handful of tables occupied in what is quite a large restaurant space. We were served right away, and our
Happy boy. Joe's garage was really wonderful place to get a late night meal. The cooking was really great the staff very casual, fun and pleasant. The Nutella pizza with strawberry and banana was out of control. Definitely going back for more soon :)
Too full to move!. Like the previous reviewer we went there with a discount "Meal Deal" voucher so it was a limited choice menu but the choices were things I would have selected anyway. Huge bruschetta on thick sourdough with juicy tomato. At first I thought is was under seasoned but then considered that to be better because you can also add salt and pepper but you can't take it off!
The pork ribs were amazing. Cooked to perfection with the smokey BBQ sauce and more on the side with a generous amount of creamy coleslaw. My ONLY gripe here was an obvious miss communication between floor and kitchen when the mains came out while we were still eating the entree'.
Couldn't have managed anything more than the very light chocolate mousse for dessert with a really well made strong latte'. I'd give that mousse 9/10 and it could have been a 10 with a few shavings of dark chocolate on top for decoration and taste.
It was a quiet night on the strip and in Joe's so service was quick, polite and well informed. The two girls that served us had all of the information we asked for. So make sure you take a hearty appetite into Joe's and you won't be disappointed.
GREAT SERVICE AND FRIENDLY STAFF. There is nothing nicer than walking into joes and seeing such friendly staff and beautiful smiles that is what attracted me to joe's garage the way they make you feel so comfortable, and what can l say the food is just amazing, l want to thank the new owner for bring joe's back to the way it use to be, AMAZING JOB, THANK YOU ALL OF YOU :) 15 years my family and l have been going there and glad to see what the new owners have done and don't listen to the negative people your doing an amazing job :))))
Just called in for a quick coffee. Pleasant enough, but seemed to be your text book Brunswick Street Eatery.
My girlfriends and I came here for dinner on Saturday night. The staff were outgoing and friendly and paid attention to our table throughout the meal. The food was delicious as well as the coffee which was made perfectly with designs in the froth!!!!! The music was also pumping the whole time. Will definitely be back again.
Love this place. I've come here twice before and it's perfect every time. The food is great and at a good price and it comes out really quickly. I'd definitely recommend this place.
Very attentive service. Friendly staff who really made you feel welcome. Loved the coffee too! Huge menu to select from & big meals. Defently will be back! Huge difference with new management.
Love it again!. Joe's has been one of my favourite joints for many years. However I haven't been there for a couple of years since I was disappointed. I was told that new operators took over recently and thought I'd give it a try again so I took the Mrs there for Valentines Day last night. We were both pleasantly surprised and I was wrapped to see Joes starting to come back to its former glory. The staff were enthusiastic and quick and the service was excellent. The food was sensational with the Pizza being as tasty as I remember it. Tried the desert which was beautifully presented and scrumptious to eat, the serving was sizey and as much as we loved the cakes we just couldn't finish them. It seems Joe,s is coming back to its former glory.
The boyfriend and I were looking for a tasty bite to eat after completing the 1000 steps haha and If it weren't for the entertainment voucher we would have never been exposed to such a little gem of a place! He got the ribs and I got a margharita pizza both of which came out in under 10 minutes! Crazy! His ribs were so well cooked, served with French fries and a huge dollop of coleslaw- all for half the price of what you expect to pay for a serving that large! My pizza was so satisfying, the crust was perfect and the right amount of toppings to bring out the best in the flavours.
Service was quick and attentive and we felt very welcomed by the cute staff! We were just blown away at the quality considering it was more or less a cafe/bar sort of establishment. Ticked all the right boxes. Would definitely come back:)
User reviews. Went to this place for brunch it looks lovely inside and the service is great really nice friendly staff.
i ate the pancakes with lemon and sugar it was absolutely beautiful the presentation and taste it was so soft and unlike any pancakes ive ever had my boyfriend had the burger and he said it was delicious ! would 100% go back sometime a great experience.
Another prefect experience here! Best affogato coffee with such creamy icecream and great gnocchi. Waitress with auburn hair very pleasant and nothing is a hassle..
I don't know why rating is really low here.. We had the joes burger and seafood risotto, the burger was huge and great taste!!
Excellent food, friendly staff and reasonably prices in a great location!. Well, well, well. After reading a few reviews on here, I'm rather shocked that anyone would rate this place anything other than excellent.
My girlfriend and I went for the first time last night (24/7/13) before we headed to the MCG for the Liverpool game. We had a couple of drinks and, instead of going elsewhere for dinner like we'd planned, we thought we'd give Joe's a try, as the menu looked good and was very reasonably priced for the area.
I had Oven Roasted Lamb Shanks ($22 approx.) whilst my girlfriend had Chicken in a Creamy Mustard Sauce ($18 approx.). After the very friendly and polite waiter took our order, our food was served within 15-minutes.
Although the place wasn't packed, I'd still say waiting 15-minutes for a main meal is certainly not a lifetime. Visually, the food looked great. It smelt just as good. I'll also add that the meals were pretty huge. 2 very generous Lamb Shanks with gorgeous creamy mashed potato for me, and a similarly generous helping of 2 decent sized Chicken Breasts in Mustard Sauce with Swede and Carrot Mash for my girlfriend.
So, we tucked in. WOW! It tasted as good (if not better!) as it looked. Again, we were very surprised. The decor of the joint isn't what I'd call plush, so you can imagine we were pretty much expecting something similar to a counter meal. How wrong could we have been!
We both lapped-up our meals, with not a single thing left on either plate. My meal wasn't only beautifully cooked, it filled me right to the brim too. The Lamb literally melted off the bone - cooked to perfection. Seasoning was just right, and the mash and Tomato and Herb sauce complimented the Lamb perfectly. In fact, the sauce even had Olives in - which I detest! But...guess what?! I lapped them up too!
I would take no notice of the negative reviews of Joe's. Gorgeous, hearty food for a really cheap price. I would have expected to pay double for food of this quality at a more pompous, swanky establishment.
My advice? Give it a try. For the price, you simply can't go wrong. And, as for the staff? I have no idea where remarks about the staff being rude come from. Very friendly, service with a smile and made us feel very welcome.
I'd suggest these negative reviewers simply want a hell of a lot for very little, or are simply snobs. Even Gourmet, Fresh stonebaked Pizza's were only $14!
Would highly recommend you try this place out, especially for if you're looking for a very decent and reasonable bite to eat. Excellently located also!
Honest but looks tired. Great honest place for breakfast & lunch .... this is before the cafe scene gone funkier and boutique in Melbourne ..... needs a revamp though.
The Joes Burger was tasty. Don't know what was up with the bad reviews this weekend? The meals are large. My friends Parma was huge!
Great place, chicken run pizza is phenomenal
Joes garage is awesome. So easy to get too, so great to eat at; there is a great vibe in there!
may I say, you HAVE to try a joes legendary pancake, your taste buds will explode in your mouth. It's ah-mazing!!

Best cheesecake in Melbourne. Don't come here for the food - it's not bad per se, but it's just very basic, unexciting and slightly overpriced for what you get....
....however, my friends and I come here almost weekly for late night CAKE. It's amazing. Especially if you like cheesecake. Massive meal-size slabs of rich, heavy cakey awesomeness, garnished with cream, icecream and raspberry sauce, with a centimetre thick crust. Wherever we eat out, we always end up at Joe's for dessert.
I don't know who bakes for them but if I ever meet them I'll kiss them on the cheek.
Good brekkie. No problems for breakfast good service give breakfast pizza a go very good
Have been coming here over the last 10 years on and off and again yesterday with 2 other families. Always happy with what I order from here although it was hit and miss this time for a couple of friends. For the place it is, it's good enough for a brunch or coffee if you don't expect a 3 hat restaurant. It doesn't pretend to be one. It's a local institution because on most occasions it serves decent food at a reasonable price. Will be back.
Perfect for anyone with an appetite. Generous portions with some great menu items, the American Platter that includes buffalo wings and smoked ribs was unbelievable. The desert is to die for but best of all is the service. The staff just made us feel so welcome with nothing being too much trouble. Thank you ladies (and guys in kitchen) we'll definitely be back again and tell all our freinds.
Walked in at 7.30 AM on a public holiday. It was the only place open and I honestly wasn't expecting much... however I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and my food was ready quick smart. Avocado and fetta smashed eggs. Simple and cooked perfectly. I will try again to make sure this wasn't a fluke but I am quietly confident I've found my new breakfast local.
It was my first time dining down Brunswick street and didn't expect much from a restaurant that was quite empty. Despite so, I went in and was blown away by the amazing service and the variety/quality of the food. Would recommend to everyone as I can say this is now one of my favourite restaurants!!
Sriachia hollandaise is a revelation! Great soundtrack. Friendly, attentive staff. Fair prices. Would be improved by more vegan options and nicer toilets. Overall, a great place for brunch :)
