Amazing place offering vegetarian & vegan Middle-eastern food! . We loved the little courtyard which provides perfect setting to enjoy the amazing food. Loved the hummus, sauces and the roasted veggie flavours You must drop by to check them out!

Incredible! đŸ€© Great for Vegetarians! Anytime I’m at the other side of town this is my preferred place to eat or jut for a quick bite. The food is authentic, delicious and flavorsome. DO NOT miss out! đŸ„™

Been here couple of times. Must try for all vegetarians . Very reasonable prices and quality is exceptional. Very nice atmosphere in Fitzroy branch for night out . All vegetarians should put in must go list

Simple done right! Had the falafel pita pocket and it was awesome. The falafel was the standout and the size of the pita was huge! Great value. Will be back to try some other items on the menu.

A great place for a delicious healthy meal. So many interesting food and drink options. Generous servings and definitely try a smoothie bowl! Recommended even for those that are not vegetarian or vegan... you will leave feeling satisfied and nourished.

Fresh Food, Large Portion Size, Excellent Service, Customer Friendly Management. We made a mistake in ordering from the menu and she provided a cauliflower delicacy as a replacement and on top of that a complimentary Pita Pocket for the take away. Above & beyond expectation of client centric attitude. Definitely be there again and again without a mistake :)

This is one of my favourite little places to eat. The food is absolutely delicious, so fresh and full of flavour. I’ve been going to both the Northcote and Fitzroy venues since they opened and love introducing it to friends. My husband isn’t vegetarian but this is still one of his faves too. We used to live closer, however we’re now a good 45 minutes drive away and we plan a visit regularly just to enjoy the food.

I went there last night, and I really liked the falafel there. The chef mentioned they make it fresh everyday. Definitely going to come back again. Best vegan restaurant in Melbourne!!

Service here was friendly, and they had a cool outdoor area at the back. Food was ok, nothing bad, but nothing amazing either. We found a lot of the dishes underseasoned and a little bland, but would be willing to come back and give it another go.

Got here with the zomato gold and its a really cool place with a soothing ambience at the back. Just remember that their menus are mostly plant based and some have poached eggs.

We got the shakshuka white and the shuit bread. The shuit bread was quite a treat for even a meat lover with some deliciously fried egg plant and another mix.

The shakshuka platter on the other hand was a bit on the dull side with some dead lettuce leaves and the whole dish had bits of cucumber in it which isnt my thing. The other potato curry with the poached eggs had overdone their seasoning and had a bitter taste to it.

This is such a good place for any occasion and I've got the feeling that my food was a one off. Hopefully that's the case.

Took my mate to the Northcote store last week and he had a craving for falafel again, soon after. We thought we’d try the Brunswick Street location and it was just as good! Had the falafel salad and it’s so pure and fresh and the falafels are just perfect. There’s also a nice little courtyard for those summer days.

Amazing food and healthy!

Visited Tahina for dinner. Beautiful outdoor sitting. Fresh food. Very authentic and tasty. The hosts are very good. The shaksuka with a combination of egg and eggplant is a must. This place is out of the world and a must visit. The fresh prepared hummus with a spark of spice is a must try. We will definitely visit again.

Lovely place! Gorgeous courtyard! Love the climbers and the foliage! The food is hearty too! The portion size is appropriate! Love the falafel salad! Hummus was fresh! Pita pockets were delicious too! The green shakshouka was probably not a favourite, lacked a bit of flavour and punch.

Ordered the Monkey salad and Falafel salad and both were delicious. Very large portions too. Service was fast and the staff were polite. Will be back again.

The pocket itself was a little dry when it came to the table, but with free chilli peppers, hummas and pickled cabbage - it allows you to fill the pocket up with all the extras. Once filled to the max, it brought all the flavours together. A little annoying that I had to make it full and fill it up myself, but atleast the option was available at no extra charge.
Anna
For fresh, cheap, and DELICIOUS food I keep coming back to tahina. Most of it is vegan too which is a bonus.
If we are splitting hairs: the felafel seem to slip a little when it’s busy, it’s like they don’t get as much time cooking. But otherwise could not fault this wonderful place. Would recommend the felafel salad with some of their amazing pita on the side.
I came on a Tuesday’s degustation. I love the first entry serve called ‘Spinach and feta Burekas, tahina, zhoug, harissa, pickled cucumber’ the most.

Fantastic food, traditional Israeli cuisine. Simple and packed with flavour. Staff is very very friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be back.

The staff was lovely and the food came out fast. The outdoor setting is perfect for sunny weather and gives a bit of Mediterranean vibes. A good value for money as they are really generous with their fillings.

Possibly my second time ever eating proper Israeli cuisine! Eggs were cooked just right and I’m still thinking about that pita bread and dip. The shakshuka platter as whole was a bit too heavy for my tasting palate as I haven’t come across much Mediterranean food in my lifetime. I’d definitely be open to trying more dishes here though - I probably should’ve started off trying the Red Shakshuka with the traditional base!

Staff were very very friendly â˜ș

If I had a time machine, I'd go back in time and go to this place when it first opened, so that I wouldn't have known so many months without it in my life. ⏳

Absolutely delicious food! The serving sizes are huge and everything is so fresh. My friend and I had the Green Shakshuka Platter, one with eggs and one with eggplants. I can't believe I have only discovered this place recently! Thank you Zomato Gold for the recommendation. So many other dishes I want to try!
RM
Went for lunch here and the food was great. We ordered the green/red falafel and white shakshuka. Food was nice and fresh and the dips were a real stand out. Healthy food!
Ushakant
Loved the place, service and flavors. Had green vegan shakshuka and the flavors were bustling. Partner had white shakshuka and he liked it too.. Will definitely be back for more.
Rabani
Great spot for lunch, quick service and fresh ingredients on offer.
It's fantastic that everything is cooked right in front of you, so you can immerse in the wonderful aromas.
The mushroom pita is superb
Daniel Wirjoprawiro
Great restaurant if you love Israeli food! Great variety of pita, falafels and others to choose from. The Shakshuka / baked eggs in particular is absolutely delicious 😋. Will come back! Most of the venue is outdoors and can be better heated in Winter - it is freezing out The back!
Whalesfoodadventure
Very good service and food came out real quick. Ordered the sabich pita pocket, falafel salad, wendys chocolate frosty smoothie, hummus plate and side of pita bread. Falafel salad was amazing especially with the salad. Sabich pita pocket loved the roasted eggplant mixed with salad and potato. Hummus tasted amazing. Highly recommend vegetarian food here.
AH
Absolutely love this spot! The green falafel never fails to disappoint and all the veggie sides I’ve tried have been great. Especially love the ambience in the courtyard out the back. Highly recommend Tahina for a great falafel fix!
Dr S
This place is cheap as chips and for vegans it is heaven every single fish is vegan and even the shakshukas can be made vegan by replacing eggs with eggplant!

You must order and pay at the counter before you grab a seat. There is plenty of seating at the back but it’s outdoors and the gas heaters are not comforting enough.
I was advised that their most popular dishes are the green falafel and monkey salad however I had eyes for only the shakshuka
Having never tried the white shakshuka before I had to get it. I was told it was a massive meal so the two of us shared it
It’s two poached eggs with mushrooms goats cheese potatoes and chilli. It is served with two halves of pita and some Jimmie
The Israeli salad is shredded radish and a lot of cucumber doused in vinegar
The shakshuka was delicious and slightly spicy and definitely looks like a big meal but I could have devoured it on my own
Need to go back and try everything on the menu
Karma Clarke
Delicious, healthy and hearty.

I had never had a green shakshuka before and I really loved the grilled veggies with the eggs, avocado, bread and salad. Filling and full of flavour.
The falafel salad was great too - with two types of falafel: a red and green and a super generous serving.

They did seem to be understaffed though - the place was looking pretty filthy/plates needed to be cleared.

However, the food more than made up for that. :)
Chris JM
Great food but the service could be better - it appeared that the bar lacked staff, with only one person serving people and taking orders and delivering food. Such a great restaurant surely should invest in extra staff to make the dining experience even more enjoyable!
Unravelled
Came here very soon after it opened. I liked all the food we tried - a lot of it was larger than we had anticipated it would be (not complaining). I think the prices were reasonable. The outdoor courtyard was super cute.
Nicole
What an amazing find! Amazing Israeli dishes and very well priced. We enjoyed a generous serving of baby cauliflower with tahini dressing and a delicious pita stuffed (literally...it was massive) with sautĂ© mushrooms and roasted pumpkin and other delicious veggie goodness. Can’t wait to return
Tricia
Always good to be able to sit in the courtyard and know you’re going to get quality food each time. Perfect for groups and even just a couple, the food is so light and enjoyable that you feel good after eating it. Would recommend the vegan hotdog, get it every time!

We had visited Tahina Bar a couple of months ago and it was such a lovely experience! Here’s what we had!

White shakshuka platter - a wok filled with wild mushrooms, fennel, chili, fresh thyme, oregano and Meredith goats cheese served with Israeli salad and pita! Now the trick to this is getting all the food to fit into the pita bread so you can taste all the wonderful flavors together! The shakshuka itself was so flavorful with its herbs and spices and the Israeli salad made it even more refreshing!

Falafel - we had ordered the red and green with the red being catered for the spicy lovers! Both were pretty enjoyable though I had prefer the red one for that extra kick! Who knew chickpeas could taste so good!

Vegan carrot hot dog - when it first came out, it genuinely looked like a real hot dog which turned out to be a spiced cured carrot sprinkled with sweet potato chips and covered with tahini amba mustard and sweet tomato sauce! I gotta say I was impressed as I had not expected a carrot to taste this good! This was my fave for the day given its creativity and yumminess!

Salads - we had ordered the roasted eggplant and cauliflower papiot which were such great sides to our mains! The cauliflower was slowed roast to perfection and the eggplant just melted in your mouth!

Vegan chocolate soufflĂ© - coconut milk pudding infused with rose water topped with pistachios and maple syrup! Honestly, what’s not to love about this? It was not overly sweet but you could taste all the flavors in the mouth!

Overall, we had a great time and would visit again to try the rest of Tahina’s menu!

Vegan friendly.

Open till 9.

Affordable

What more do you want?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Falafel. This is the first time I’ve eaten a red pepper falafel. I like it better than the green ones now. Nothing more to say.

Veganaut
Amazing, pretty much everything could be made vegan. The dishes were all amazing, if you like hummus you have to come here. Really nice courtyard too.

Tasty food, friendly staffs and competitive price, the best tahini I have ever had in Melbourne till now and try smoothies plz!!! It’s soooo good:)

I’m so glad that Tahina opened a new restaurant in Fitzroy. They’re my go-to falafel place.
The monkey salad is a must-try. I want to try other things on the menu but I just can’t help ordering it every time đŸ€·â€â™€ïž
Chronicles Of Nardia
It’s no secret that Israeli food is one of my favourites so I was excited to check out Tahina. Located on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, Tahina has a bold blue & white colour scheme which I loved. A small looking place on entry but it opens up to a spacious sheltered courtyard outside complete with heating & lights. We visited at lunchtime but it would be even prettier at night. Our group of 6 sat outside in the courtyard.

Tahina offers vegetarian & vegan Israeli Street food with plenty of choices. I love shared food & it’s always better with a group as you can order a bit of everything. We ordered a selection of pita pockets, shakshuka and some sides to share along with smoothies.

The red falafel pita pockets, packed with tasty, fresh fillings were a big hit with all of us, as were the shakshuka platters. We also tried the roasted potatoes which were delicious, the cauliflower papiot, roasted eggplant, tahini plate & the vegan carrot hot dog. The cauliflower was creamy & cooked until it was falling apart, as was the roasted eggplant. We all tried the carrot hot dog which looked amazing although the sweetness of the roasted carrot was a bit much. The sweet potato chips scattered on top were crispy & proved very popular. We tried a mix of smoothies & although most people sighed when I ordered the ‘green goddess’ made with banana, spinach, almond butter & raw vanilla protein, it ended up being the pick of the bunch.

We were pretty full so ordered a few desserts to share. The vegan chocolate soufflé was served with chunks of vanilla halva and topped with halva fairy floss. It was rich & decadent & a nice way to finish our meal. The vegan malabi was a lovely dessert too, a coconut milk pudding infused with rose water topped with pistachio & maple syrup.

It was a lovely fresh feast of food that we all really enjoyed & the courtyard setting was perfect for our group. Thanks so much for having us.

Tahina Bar in Fitzroy has a small seating area in the shop front & larger seating area in the open courtyard. I recommend going here when it’s warm with a large group as it was cold sitting in the courtyard at night in winter. Food wise, it was great. I really enjoyed the green falafel pita pocket, roasted eggplant & monkey salad. Highly recommend coming here for vegetarians & vegans.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
For Israeli street food, Tahina has always been a favourite of mine, and their new branch in Fitzroy provided another opportunity to drop in and try some of their traditional vegetarian Israeli fare, as well as some of their more inventive dishes.

Tahini Bar in Northcote was one of my former favourites. The Fitzroy outlet doesn't seem to have the same pull. My pita pocket was good, but I was expecting bigger as something presented as a main-type dish.
Jeffry
Tahina offers the vegetarian Israeli street food with a gourmet twist, delicious superfood smoothies and hand made natural ice cream. Tahina is Roy and Nat’s shared dream to a humble, warm and special place where people enjoy home style Israeli food that will leave you feeling totally nourished and satisfied.
Mega
Great food, nice outdoor undercover seating with heaters, good service, BYO wine ($3 pp corkage) and beer ($2 pp corkage), alcoholic drinks available, plenty of delicious menu options, vegetarian

Fresh, tasty, cheap - what more could you want?!
Came here on a Saturday night and ordered 2 pita pockets, tahini platter and brownie.
I wish we had ordered a hot dish as they all looked incredible coming out!
The only let down was the brownie we had for dessert, really dry and underwhelming.
Will definitely be back!

I’m always on the hunt for unique Melbourne cafes or restaurants and Tahina Bar certainly hits the mark. With hearty, flavoursome meals that stay true to its Middle Eastern inspiration, as well as all-round affordability, it’s no wonder Tahina Bar in Fitzroy is now its second store, with the first one being in Northcote. I cannot recommend the roasted eggplant enough! But this Melbourne restaurant is seriously the best spot for adventurous foodies, vegan foodies, or those just looking for the perfect Winter hearty meal.
Penguineats
It’s no surprise that Tahina is a success story. Thanks to their affordable pricing and delicious take on accessible, delicious and well-executed Isreali street food, their second and newly launched venue in Fitzroy is a hit with the locals.

I stumbled across this place by mistake and ended up ordering the Lutsi pita pocket which was DELICIOUS! Well priced for the size and the great flavours, however, I cant give them 5 stars because I did ask if it had chickpeas in it as I have an intolerance to them, and was assured that it didn't. I was half way through eating it and realised there was hommus inside. An honest mistake and I would definitely like to try again but food intolerances can be quite a serious issue.

Northcote’s favourite Israeli street-food bar Tahina has opened their second store on Brunswick St.

The team behind Tahina self-confessed health freak, Natalie Powell and Tel Aviv-born chef Roy Sassonkin, hope to redefine casual dining on Brunswick St with an entirely vegetarian menu which draws inspiration from Nat’s interest in plant-based health and Roy’s childhood growing up in the culinary melting pot which is Tel Aviv.

4.5 Tahina Bar has expanded to a new location and you’ll want to keep coming back for their moreish vegetarian street food. Tahina is taking a big risk with...
Good Food Good Mood
I was invited to Tahina last night and it was the first vegetarian meal I’ve eaten that I thoroughly enjoyed. The flavours were fabulous and smack bang in the middle of Fitzroy is sure targeting their key market. the affordability was also to be applauded, the menu was very reasonably priced and boasted delicious healthy ingredients.

The outdoor courtyard had heaters but was still a little cold so I warmed up with a chai while my husband had a kombucha- thoroughly embracing the healthy agenda. He opted for the felafel salad and I got the sabich pita pocket. It was yummy and fresh and worked perfectly with the hummus plate on the side.

My favourite however was the roasted eggplant. This was a simple yet flawless dish of roasted eggplant with crispy kale, hummus, zataar and tahini. One I’ll certainly attempt to recreate at home. Great textures and just full of flavour.

We finished off with the chocolate vegan soufflĂ©. I don’t know how one makes soufflĂ© sans eggs but this one was delicious. It got that middle eastern twist by the chunks of vanilla halva. Definitely not to be missed

With white and blue, Tahina really does pop-up from its surroundings. Opening up a second restaurant in Hipsterville, already with quite a few vegetarian/vegan joints (more than any other town we've seen) Fitzroy welcomes Tahina Bar, a restaurant specializing in Israeli vegetarian street food (guessing that explains the colors of the front).
Daisy Never Too Sweet
Amazing meat-free Israeli cuisine on Brunswick st In Fitzroy - Tahina Bar. I enjoyed everything thoroughly especially the slow roasted cauliflower, eggs shashuka, falafel in pita pockets and the cacao smoothie bowl!
The City Lane
Tahina sees Tel Aviv born owner/chef Roy Sassonkin and his partner Natalie Powell creating a mouthwatering menu of Israeli street food bites that are completely vegetarian or vegan.

I was Invited to a blogger table at the recently opened Tahina Bar on Brunswick Street. I just love these Israeli street food venues popping up around Melbourne. The venue is rather cozy at the front but where this venue excels is the excellent and totally functional courtyard at the back. This winters days was breezing and rainy but heating and sails were highly effective in keeping the elements at bay.

Meat eaters might feel ripped off initially as the menu is vegetarian and vegan. Even the hot dog on the menu is made with carrot. That said there is some seriously tasty things happening on the menu that anyone should enjoy.

Today I tried the red falafel pita pocket which was full of salad ingredients. It was certainly a goodie and the pita itself was fresh and soft.

The roasted cauliflower papiot with hummus, lemon and tahini was super tasty as was the roasted eggplant with kale ( second time I’ve eaten kale this week).

Several in the group had the shakshuka platter with eggs, Israeli salad, hummus and tahini. This was sizeable and, I’m told, filling.

I loved the smoothies and tried the Green Warrior with kale (third time) and a whole bunch of other yummy ingredients designed to mask the kale... this worked a treat.

We all left space for dessert and the majority of the tables opted for the small rich vegan chocolate soufflĂ©. You really couldn’t have had much more than we got per serve it was a warmed decadent treat.

The winner dessert in my opinion was the vegan melabi which was a coconut pudding infused with rose water and with pistachio and maple syrup. That syrup was just so delicious and the perfect way to end the meal.
Linnie Eats All The Food
Tahina Bar in Northcote has been around for about 3 years now and they’ve opened up another one on Brunswick Street in busy Fitzroy. Tahina serves up Israeli vegetarian street food along with superfood smoothies and wholesome ingredients. From the outside it looks teeny tiny but when you walk out to the back, there’s quite a large courtyard so don’t get fooled like me!

I have fallen in love with this place! The portion sizes are great for the price. The meals themselves were delicious, definitely one of the top falafel pittas I’ve ever had. There was a good ratio of falafel to pita bread! One of my friends ordered the monkey salad and was amazed at how big it was. If you can’t decide on one thing the shakshuka platter is a good choice! The herbs mixed in with the eggs was a great balance. They also had free tahini and pita bread you could help yourself to while you waited for your meal (which we took full advantage of). The staff was super friendly and our meals came out pretty quickly. They had the cutest outdoor seating area with heating. We also took the opportunity to try some desserts. The brownie we ordered was fluffy and creamy. As for the tahini ice cream...best ice cream I have ever had, I would come back again just for the ice cream.
Split The Bill
So, so, so delicious 😋😋😋...

What a delight to check out this restaurant! With a really large outdoor seating area with a cosy heater and fairy lights, we were set for a great night.

Started off with some dips - fresh hummus, fresh tahini and fresh Zhoug with pita bread. The fresh Zhoug was our favourite, super spicy but so delicious.

Followed by the shakshuka platter served with Israeli salad, spicy green salad, pickled cabbage, hummus, tahini and pita bread with two free range eggs, traditional tomato base with mixed herbs. It was a massive serving and so delicious.

We also enjoyed the roasted potatoes with rosemary, thyme, oregano and chilli.

Next came my favourite meal of the night the roasted eggplant hummus - half a roasted eggplant, zaatar kale chips and tahini. What a great balance of flavours and it really hit the mark. The yummy Cauliflower Papiot comprised of slow roasted baby cauliflower with hummus, lemon and tahini.

We also enjoyed the falafel salad (3 green & 3 red) on a bed of hummus, Israeli salad, spicy green salad and pickled cabbage topped with tahini, parsley and zaatar spice. Great flavours, a very refreshing meal indeed.

The surprise of the night was the Vegan "CARROT" HOTDOG ...yeah I was thinking what the...the Black smoked bun with pickled cabbage, spiced cured carrot, tahini amba mustard and sweet tomato sauce sprinkled with sweet potato chips was a lovely surprise and all I can say is it was so so tasty 😋😋😋😋.

But make sure you make room for the Vegan Chocolate Souffle with chunks of vanilla halva and topped with halva fairy floss, perfect on a cold winters night. What a great end to the evening.

Overall an amazing meal and I can't believe how delicious it was. Thanks for the invite and we will be back to check out that Monkey salad that has since been recommended to me!

Came here tonight with my gal heheh. I’ve had falafel salad đŸ„— it’s pretty good 😋 Well my friend had her green platter along with a smoothie. She seems like it đŸ€” I’m vegan so I didn’t taste that but the smoothie was alright đŸ‘ŒđŸ»

Anyway I really love this meal~~~
Tracey @ NoWongFood
I love tomato-based sauces so I went straight for the Red Shakshuka Platter, $15. Without the addition of meat, it did not disappoint – it was huge enough for a sharing dish! I loved how clean the dish was, with two runny egg yolks and the egg white was just cooked to give each bite some texture. Mixed herbs that was sprinkled on top of the skillet was just enough to give a hint of flavour to accompany the red sauce. Be sure to dip this with some pita bread and the Israeli salad. The salad had cucumbers that were very fresh on the left, the middle was lightly pickled cabbage and on the right was the spicy green salad that had a kick to it. Thankfully, I could take the amount of chilli. *phew*
One Piece Left
Tahina Bar has made a great name for themselves in serving Israeli street food in Northcote. They recently opened their second restaurant in Fitzroy and kindly invited us to check it out. Upon entering Tahina Bar in Fitzroy my first impression was that the restaurant looked really clean with white walls and chairs, hints of blue and wooden tables. From the entrance the space looked like a small eatery but then you walk through to the back and it opens up into a lovely outdoor space with a roof and string lights sweeping low from the ceiling that reminded me of Austin, Texas.
Hangry Dreamer
This is the moment that most people have been waiting for - Hangry Dreamer reviews a vegetarian restaurant. Being the carnivore that I am, I was nervous but excited about going to my first vego restaurant but boy am I glad I went. The beautiful Israeli flavours from Tahina were the perfect introduction to excellent vegetarian food!
