Review Mile End Bagels - Fitzroy

Naturally, when I see a bagel shop I abruptly pull over. I did double check the reviews and after many claiming this is “the best bagel in Melbourne” I was convinced that I had to try it out. These bagels miss the mark by a long shot. I am genuinely shocked that this is what Aussies consider a good bagel. My oh my, you are missing out. First of all, it was very dry. Seemed like many days old or just poorly made, not sure which is worse. What I really can’t get past is that this bagel was overwhelmingly sweet (and it was sesame)! Bagels should not be sweet. At all. So wrong. Another massive disappointment on my search for a decent, authentic bagel in Australia. (Adding a star because the cream cheese was A+)

Bagels are great! Staff are very nice. One of the most popular bagel shops in Melbourne 🥯🤤 only online order is available atm. And then self-pick up

Bagels are hard and dry like stones, cheese and ham are cold like ice and salty like seawater. I don't know why this place is a famous bagel shop. Costco Bagel is more moist and delicious.

Probably the best bagel place I’ve been too!! The bagels were so good and filling and full of great ingredients that go amazingly together.

Randomly came across this bagel shop while heading to another place as it caught my eyes with many waiting for their order outside the shop (always a good sign in my book). I asked for the most popular one to the staff and got the ham and cheese bagel which was delishy! Forgot to take a photo of the actual bagel lol

Very delicious bagels, staff were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was a wear house vintage feel. Highly recommended. If you are in the area.

Mile end is only doing click & collect at the moment via their app, so keep in mind that you might need to spend an extra 10 mins standing outside to set things up. The app is a little buggy, but the bagels make it worth the effort 😍

First and foremost, this is a Montreal style bagel shop. I wish others would review it with that in mind. I’m from NY and always look for good bagels (which I consider to be NY style.) Knowing that this place is not NY style, I was open minded and incredibly surprised at how similar they are! Other than the honey in the water the dough is boiled in, it seems the rest is the same. A bit crispy on the outside and dense and chewy on the inside - so so good!! The cream cheese was a bonus - I purchased the bagels and two tubs of cream cheese (chive and “Dylan Capers” which has, surprise, dill and capers with what tasted like a touch of lemon.) The busy, hard working staff was so friendly and helpful - super sweet, efficient and quick. My new favorite!!
