I haven't been here for ages according to my initial review which is odd as I know I've eaten inside this restuarant since 2017!
Anyway tonight I had a vegan gyozas, spicy tofu ramen, tan tan sesame creamy ramen and a mini vegan bean and potato burger.
To start, the vegan gyozas were absolutely delicious. Soft skins and a yummy filling.
The vegan mini bean and potato burger was nice, but it needed some more sauce for me.
My spicy ramen was missing some spice but it was full of soy caramel flavoured soup base which was absolutely amaaazing! The ramen had cashews, mushrooms and other goodies. This was a major highlight.
My partner had the vegan tan tan sesame creamy ramen which was texturally really tasty and full of full of vegetables.
With home delivery this place is awesome and definitely worth trying.

Hungry tonight I really wanted some Japanese. I ordered some Broadbill tuna which came in a bento box and OMGosh it was amazing!!! The vegies and sides that came with it were so fresh and tasty that they just melted in my mouth.
The only improvement that I could suggest was that the tuna was a little dry, maybe it was a little over cooked?? The accompanying sauce was excellent though.
My partner had a vegan ramen which I tasted and it was excellent, once again the flavours worked so well, and the broth was amazing!! Just delicious... I am sooo trying that next time!
This is one amazing restaurant, I can see why it was so packed tonight. This place is a MUST visit. Wow.
Very stylish and cosy place to eat. The foods were yummy. However, the waiting time for food to come was much longer than other restaurants. Guess the chef put a lot of love to the food?
The food here is delicious, not to mention looks so pleasing on the plate! My friend had the salmon while I had the sword fish. Couldn’t recommend enough. Such a great little spot.

There's something about Japanese food that is simple but wholesome, clean and delicious.
Ordered:

Review:
The food was awesome. The crispy salmon was unbelievably light in my mouth, with a tartar sauce that complimented it well.
The 8 kinds of sides were pickled/dressed up/ in various stages of flavour. Each gave a different variation to the whole dish - essentially a whole different experience that you choose. Being able to have an adventure with my food is everything I want.
Matcha Soy Latte is one of the best I've had. Creamy and packed full of flavour. The bottle is heated and you use the paper cup to lessen the heat and pour it into the stone cup... such an interesting experience! Also gives Neko Neko the flexibility to serve it hot or cold.
Service was amazing. Kind lady with kind eyes and a great help in recommending the most popular dish. The inside is so Melbourne - great detailed interior with an abundance of natural light.
Neko neko is a fantastic place with great food, great aesthetics and a great vibe. Highly recommend and worth traveling for!
Quit quacking about hitting up other Japanese restaurants, this is it.
If you come at the wrong time, you don't get a seat, like it.
If you get a seat it is a better win than the lottery.
This menu is inspired. This food is exceptional. The presentation is dope.
For casual service their care is wonderful.

Love the vegan ramens here. Tried all three of them and the spicy one is the most special and only mild spicy. The other two were also very tasty.
Vegan Japanese pancakes were not as per our expectations. They were made from nuts and soy beans with a beautiful salad. Very filling as a dish.
Vegan platter was ok.
Lots of people on weekends.
Service was very friendly on weekends but less so on weeknights.
Communal eating environment, be prepared to share a big table in the centre with others, limited space.
To access the toilet you need to walk through the small kitchen which can be a bit awkward.
This restaurants is great even for meat lovers! I ordered the vegan ramen and the soy mince tastes just like meat. I highly recommend ordering the prawn gyoza and salmon curry as well! Great service, friendly Japanese staff in a cozy location.
Went friday night with my gf. It was busy. Shared table with a couple of guys. Very lovely vegan ramen. Good umami. Well presented. Will go back sometime.
A really cute vegan friendly eatery in Fitzroy.
The place was quite small, so most of the tables are shared. We chose the window seat and it wasn't the most comfortable but manageable.
One staff was super friendly, as she offered to explain the side dishes as it was our first time coming.
Onto the food,
I loved the tofu and eggplant teishoku. The flavors were great, portion was satisfying and i love how all the side dishes compliments the whole dish, and of course the fact that the rice had such great texture. We added fake meat as well and it was just like real meat!
The ramen was a delight too, it was vegan as well but so flavorful. The noodle texture was to our liking though i didnt really like the fried wonton which contained the black rice, i think it can do with more shrooms, tofus and eggplant instead.
It was overall a great meal and i do enjoyed the dishes!

Super tiny place with communal spaces.
I had the chilli ramen with gluten free noodles and it was the best vegan ramen I have ever had and super generous portion too.
Hubby had the tan tan and enjoyed his too.
Great food!! Colourful, beautifully presented, creative and yummy. Seriously awesome. We had the croquettes + Panko salmon in the dinner sets, and our friends tried the curry and a spicy vegan ramen.
It would be five stars if the place wasn’t so tiny/squished. It affected the dining experience. They need to renovate to better utilise the space and fix acoustics.
Also, they need to make sure that people aren’t minding seats without ordering, especially when people are waiting outside and considering that it is such a tight space. Our party of four had to really squish in on a communal table because somebody was minding seats ( those seats were empty for more than 20 mins too).
Other than that, I recommend Neko Neko!
One of the best ramen I've ever had in Melbourne. The setting is cool and beautifully decorated with big glass window so you can look out to the street while enjoying the food. The service was friendly and professional. I would prefer the ramen to be less salty although I think ramen is supposed to be salty everywhere. The food usually takes a while to be ready so it's better to come here when you're not in a rush.
As a meat lover, I was quite sceptical when my mates told me a bout this small restaurant tucked in between Gertrude St and Smith St in Collingwood. But oh boy, their fish platter blew me conception and I'm hooked from the first bite! Sugoku oishii! (Super delicious in Japanese)
Neko Neko has outshined all expectations. On arrival was already quite busy which can only mean good things! Were seated promptly with lovely service. Enjoying a the Spicy ramen and Neko Neko teishoku with the large selection of side dishes it was lovely to pick and choose. We had incredible food and was so amazingly priced. Will for sure come back for some more delicious ramen. 5/5

Neko Neko's vegan curry is one of the best dishes I have EVER had. This place serves up some amazing vegan dishes that are both gorgeous and delicious at the same time. The restaurant is quite small but has a lovely atmosphere, it tends to get very crowded so I'd recommend getting there early. The service is pretty quick and the serving sizes are decent. This place is one of my absolute favourites in the city! *Sponsored free meal
First time I'd ever tried ramen and now I have a very high stsndard of what ramen should taste like. Have been back for takeaway of the same ramen since (I had the neko neko ramen but I'm sure they are all amazing at this place). Loved the gyoza too. Would highly recommend.
Amazing vegan ramen! It’s such a beautiful feeling knowing you can get ramen that contains more than just a couple of vegetables! Neko Neko ticks all the boxes. I always enjoy the spicy vegan ramen! Perfect portion for a good price!

They had such a variety of healthy yet delicious foods. My father and I went in for a quick bite but we ended up getting a tasty lunch of teriyaki salmon and the popular vegan Neko Neko ramen 🍜
The seating was quite squishy so make sure you go with people your close with 😂😂

Came here yesterday night with my friend. I’ve had tan tan ramen with gluten free rice noodles 🍜 the broth was tasty 😋 hopefully they can have more GF options for other dish

Went to Neko Neko last week for lunch. The place was very busy but it didn't take too long for the dishes to come. Ordered the agedashi tofu with eggplant meal set while my friend ordered the teriyaki salmon meal set. Both were delicious and we also loved the presentation of the dishes. The staff were extremely friendly and were very accommodating to my dietary requirements. Overall, a great lunch spot in Fitzroy and I'll definitely be returning soon.

I ordered the vegan milky/creamy ramen and it was super flavoursome! Exactly what I was after. Heaps of different textures to make it interesting and the broth was divine!
My partner had the panko crumbed salmon and he loved it! The 8 side dishes was a nice touch and always good to try a few different things, hence obentos are always my favourite!
Can't wait to come back again, so many other vegan dishes on the menu I would love to try!

I LOVE this place! I'm a sucker for "eco, whole-foods" style Japanese restaurants, and this fits the bill. Their food is so fresh and healthy, yet really satisfying. Plus it's very veggie-friendly and stocks my fave (Stevia-sweetened)yuzu soda. (: The place is tiny, though, so call before you go.

It has a really unique health food take on Japanese home cooking classics, with no compromise on the flavors! In fact, I would say it is even more delicious!
It has a casual ramen bar atmosphere and the staff are very friendly.
The Agedashi tofu was the highlight! I also recommend trying their delicious ramens.
It is a clear a lot of thought and preparation is put into each dish.
Last night we both decided that we were hungry for ramen, and where else than Neko Neko?
As soon as we arrived we were very surprised by the small size of the restaurant, but were still pleased by it;
having that communal & homely feel.
Although we waited fifteen minutes for a table, it was worth it.

After tossing up between the Neko Neko, & the Spicy Tofu Ramen I decided spicy was the way to go.
They were very accommodating towards my gluten intolerance which I found extremely helpful.
The meal itself was incredible, and the portion size for $20 was extremely generous.
All of the elements of the dish were delicious, and was glad to try the soy based minced meat.
It was the perfect meal to initiate this cold weather Melbourne possesses.

I can’t wait to return to this place and try more #happyeats! My first time here last week so I tried their signature ramen. It was the first vegan ramen I’ve tried and I wasn’t disappointed.. of course it’s not going to be the same richness as the usual meaty ramen, but on its own merit it’s delicious. On a cold Melbourne morning, afternoon or evening, a nourishing bowl of healthy noodles soup packed with healthy and crunchy veggies never lets me down. If you’ve never had Yuzu soda before, and you love tangy, zesty flavours, you must try it!
Hubby had the salmon bento and it was massive. He was so full, he “almost” couldn’t finish the early ice cream birthday cake I ordered for him down the road!
The staff there were kind enough to let me borrow the staff bathroom so I got a quick glimpse of their tiny but efficient kitchen. It always amazes me how Japanese are so used to working in tight spaces and makes me grateful for the vastness we have here at home.
Amazing vegan ramen, fantastic service, cute decor. It is so nice to have good vegan Japanese options in Melbourne.
I can't recommend this place enough.
Limited seatings. A big triangle shared table takes up most of the seating spaces in the cafe. I ordered the agadeshi tofu with mushrooms and they are served with a mixed plate of brown rice and pickles. Healthy, non greasy, lots of flavours and textures from the pickles and the tofu, and rice is moist and chewy. Definitely will return for more.
Keep coming back to this place for good reason! Healthy and super yummy food. A fan of the vegan agedashi tofu dish and the vegan shoyu ramen- i'm not even vegan but love it!

Amazing! Small and cosy place. Friendly waitress who explained the menu very well. Vegan ramen was so chewy and flavoursome. Teishoku set was filling and well presented. Was so hungry that we reordered another to share. Will def return. Pity about the parking. Hope they open another in the suburbs soon.
This is the best place in Melbourne for vegan ramen. It is so delicious and I constantly crave it. I would eat the vegan ramen from here everyday if I could. The service is also really lovely. I have to move interstate next year and one of the biggest things I'll miss is the ramen from Neko Neko
Vegan ramen. I had the special of the day; leek and shitake ramen. Flavourful and umami rich. The cashew based ramen broth was very heavy and I was still full many many hours later; probs make a good lunchtime option.
So glad I finally got to try out Neko Neko. Started with the leek & mushroom soup (which was AMAZING) followed by the agedashi tofu, the veggie plate was great, unfortunately I was left slightly underwhelmed by the tofu.
I'd love to return & try out their ramen, I hear it's pretty special.
Great ramen including vegan options. Tasty fresh and good for you - can’t ask for more. I have been back several times and had three or four different meals and every time was really good.
One triangular seating plans with another table for four and bar stools on the Gertrude St aspect against the window.
I was impressed with the vegan spicy tofu ramen. It wasn't overly spicy but the broth was flavoursome and the veggies were both good quality and abundant. Good noodles too. Well worth the visit.
We went at opening and the small place filled up very quickly so I would recommend going early.
Gyoza (chickpea) and spicy tofu ramen (it was the special) was an absolute delight! This was honestly one of the best ramen meals I have ever had and there has been hundreds of them (most while living in Japan).

AMAAAAAAAZING! Beautiful waiters, amazing vibe, loved it so much! The eggplant was phenomenal and chickpea gyoza was to die for. Such a beautiful experience, 10/10 would recommend.
Heading in, I was certainly sceptical of vegan ramen (how would they develop the same depth of flavour?). Well it was flavoursome, rich and tasty with a nice range of vegan toppings as opposed to the usual chasu. We also had the brown rice with egg plant which was also a delight. Very friendly service topped off a good overall experience.
Great service, fun space, delicious food, awesome beverages, good value. Love the vegan options. We had the shoyu ramen and it was delicious and fresh. Will be back again soon for sure.
I ordered the agedashi tofu for lunch was impressed. The plating was beautiful and the tofu had a nice crust. The sauce had a strong mushroom flavour which was nice. I also enjoyed the accompaniments. I will be revisiting soon to try their other offerings.

Service is impeccably friendly. Small, cozy and cosy place.. maybe a little to cramped inside because it does get busy. They should have a toilet inside the restaurant.. instead of walking through the small kitchen..
food was amazing and I felt like there was so many flavours and textures in one plate. There was creaminess from the egg or the crispiness from the Tuna karage. The flavours all complimented each other and I highly recommend the teriyaki tuna and the tuna karage, its healthy and vegetarian friendly!!
A bit difficult to find as it is not directly off Smith St but if you like some fusion Japanese food with a Vegan slant then this place is for you. Small and cosy and awesome service with a smile and a namaste. I will be back
Amazing vegan ramen, we absolutely loved it, and the service was so good. The only thing was the place is a bit small and very busy with shared tables. But worth it for amazing ramen. Would love to come back and try the other vegan things.

Hands down the best ramen I've had in Melbourne - and I'm not even vegan! This place is seriously amazing. I had the tan tan ramen and my friend had the shoyu. My friend claimed mine was the better of the two, but I thought they were equally incredible (the shoyu came with a bonus dumpling!). The flavours were fresh, exciting and really unique. Nothing felt heavy or dense. We ordered a bottle of the house sake, and it came with two small cups, perfect for a little something on the side when a glass of wine is too much. Service was excellent, and the price really reasonable for what it was. Loved it. Outstanding. Divine. All the hyperbole.
Best vegan ramen I've had anywhere, including Japan. Both varieties on the menu are absolutely delicious. The vegetarian gyoza are great too.
This place was absolutely amazing, the food cold as incredible, the service was genuine and absolutely lovely.

Super cozy little restaurant with no more than 25 people or less at max capacity.
The bulk of the seating is on a common table, that is pretty squishy and hard to speak freely without the person next to you hearing every detail. But in saying that, its a nothing problem when the food and service is this lovely.
Vegan Ramen and potato bean croquettes being the highlights of my meal. The prawn gyoza not far behind with a surprise satay sauce on top. They were lovely enough to half size a salad for sharing too. The presentation of the food was just darling with edible flowers and mixed seeds.

Love it, cute little place with the best service, I recommend you get the Tan Tan Ramen, although I do not have a photo of it, best ramen ever. The Super food Agedashi tofu with Shiitake mushroom served with black and brown rice, simple but tasty with a variety of flavours on your plate.
When you discover a new restaurant gem, you have to share it with the world right? We were recently walking down Gertrude Street in Fitzroy, when we were greeted with a very welcoming sign for Vegan Ramen. With such an adorable sign, how could we not go in right?? Plus, the place was humming with people.
The food is very unique and tasty.
It was funny watching all the dishes come out for the other customers and trying to figure out which dish they ordered from the menu.
Love it , delish and delicate , pretty authentic Japanese with a modern twist. Beautiful presentation and customer service. Lots of little entertaining condiments surround your main protein in such a beautiful way. Thoughtfully chosen booze.
What a beautiful little space! It was a little squishy, but we were four people and a baby and quite easily squeezed around a corner of the triangle table. The design and decor was quirky, esoteric and cute. Very Japanese. I had the broadbill tuna karaage from the teishoku menu. It was delicious and the circle of small bites around the outside of the plate was pretty and tasty. You could not call it a boring dish. I tasted my partner's vegan ramen and it was also very good. An excellent place for a casual lunch, if you don't mind squeezing in. If you're looking for a place in Fitzroy to take a vegetarian or pescatarian, don't overlook Neko Neko!

It seems that apart from online shopping, writing positive reviews on places I’ve been recently works well to lift my mood.A place that I’ve been meaning to write about is Neko Neko. One of few Japanese cafes in Melbourne that serves vegan ramen.
Vegetarian ramen lovers, fret no more – there is a new cutesy Japanese eatery that does not only vegetarian ramen, but vegan ramen. It’s always awkward when you want to have ramen out with friends and you choose a place (such as this one in the city, which is amazing) but then upon arrival, learn that they only make pork-based broths – making you the subject of serious death stares from that friend who’s a better person than you and has made a lifetime vow to not eat meat.
Very assuming Japanese restaurant which is easy to miss. Great presentation and fantastic food. The sushi has great variety and the vegan ramen has such great flavours. I'll be back again for sure.
A charming and kawaii little Japanese restaurant with a tasty menu and sweet, helpful staff. The teishoku presentation is a feat of 'fast food' (you won't wait long for your meal here) refinement with its delicate arrangement of portions, emphasising colour and texture. The taste satisfies the senses just as well with a more-ish combo of flavours. You may have to wait a few minutes for a table at busier times but the service is fast and friendly and your cravings for something tasty and clean will be rewarded. It's not easy to be seated in a group of four or more at Neko Neko so I'd recommend it for singles, couples and even trios if you can nab a corner of the communal triangle bench.
Japanese places are really abuzz in my locale and Neko Neko is a cute little spot on the corner of Gertrude and Smith Street where the 86 often takes a minute break to let some hideously drunk teens on. It’s a small little cafe and was plenty busy when I popped in for a mid-weekish meal, so much so I had to end up sitting on a very awkward corner for most of it sandwiched between happy and laughing couples. My friend has been wanting to check this place out for a while, so we organised to come here for a late lunch.
We ordered the salmon sashimi salad, the tuna sashimi salad, plus a couple of hand rolls and some prawn gyoza. I washed my salad down with the Japanese citrus mint soda. The food was so fresh and clean. I was so surprised to feel full at the end of a salad, but it was such a satisfying lunch. The carrot and ginger dressing on my salmon sashimi salad was so delicious; and my friend loved the wasabi kick in theirs.
The service was friendly and really helpful. It's a small place, with quirky art work and ornaments. Parking is a bit of a pain, but it's definitely worth checking out.
We were amazed by the food, we were amazed by the service.
There are a lot of Japanese options on the strip but this is my new favourite.
The raw vegan okonomiyaki is a must.

One of those eatery I classified as "at least need to visit once if you live in Melbourne"... ...Or I guess I won't stop coming till I try out everything in the menu. (Ha Ha!)
Just thought I should write something concrete: price roughly $18-25 pp. Veggie or fish main dishes (sorry for meat lover LOL), but then Neko Neko is definitely about healthy and unique, not something common that you can get in every other suburbs. Check the photos to see what I mean!
Healthy Japanese food with full of love ;-) try their Vegan Ramen ! And Panko Salmon teishoku
Recently they have started Japanese curry and dumpling miso soup. That's also yum yum.

Early Wednesday dinner for 2. Simple decor. Big triangular table in the centre to fit the shape of the premises. Ordered tempura prawn with green curry mayo, served with 11 grain rice and vegetables. Friend ordered tuna, rice & vegetables. Tempura batter not as light & fluffy as I had hoped. The green curry mayo was very tasty with a slight kick. Loved the different grains in the rice. Very healthy meal. Would go back to try other dishes.
This tasty and unique little gem is a breath of fresh air around the place. The extremely well presented servings make you feel like you are eating at fine dining so adds to the experience. The staff is friendly and the food as tasty as it looks. Even the nori rolls are different and excitingly tasty. Well done to the team for serving up delicious and different Japanese that's healthy and nutritious..
This was really great authentic Japanese food. Nice new hip shop fit out with art hanging all around. Food looked beautiful and tasted better. Definitely coming back here.

Very cozy shop. The food is outstanding as you can choose your main and varieties of small nibbles comes with that. Worth try "Teishoku" dishes. Highly recommended!
