If I need Latin American pantry items, Casa Iberica is my first stop. They have all the ingredients I grew up with and have difficulty finding in Melbourne. They also make some great empanadas for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Highly highly highly recommend.
I went to Casa Iberica today to buy ancho chillies. Where I was here I decided to buy a beef empanada and a cheese and spinach one so I could microwave them at home and eat them. When I went to pay the man said there was a $20 EFTPOS minimum. I didn't have enough cash so I had to return the cheese and spinach empanada. I was still 15c under but the man said it was ok. Hahahaha I think he would've made more money off me without the EFTPOS minimum. I was meant to eat my empanada tomorrow but I was hungry when I got home. I got the baked empanada rather than the fried, the pastry was a bit chewy and I think that was caused by the cooking in the microwave. The filling was as delicious and flavoursome as I remember in Argentina, it had plenty of spice and the all important egg. The man working here was pretty friendly and I would get some more empanadas next time I visit. I forgot to take a photo.
Food is fantastic, but the service leaves a LOT to be desired. The people working there barely seem to tolerate you, not friendly at all, and seem more interested in chatting with their friends who visit the store in Spanish than providing quality customer service. Very disappointing.
A family-run business for over forty years, Casa Iberica is a little deli on the corner of Johnston and Spring streets in Fitzroy crammed with food goods from Spain, Portugal
I’m planning on feeding a number of people a Mexican feast in the next couple of weeks, and needed to find somewhere in Melbourne that stocks ancho chillies, chipotle chillies in adobo, tomatillos and a few other things...
I do recommend trying anything in that deli fridge that seems to be calling you. The ham, the cheese, the olives, the sausages, the yummy factor! You’ll find flours like Venezuela’s Harina Pan, a special kind of corn flour used in the making of traditional dishes, Spanish rice for paella, and spices for dishes which are very hard to find in general markets. In fact if you ever need spices, make sure you have a couple of friends to split your purchase w
I say, I am simply Loco for Casa Iberica. Well worth a foodie visit.
Fantastic portugese tarts!! Wonderful place! I always visit when I am in town.
Went looking for sauce. I had been in search for a specific sauce I hadn't been able to find anywhere since I had been in NYC 2 years ago. I found it after some searching around the very well stocked isles. In my search I also found a bunch of interesting looking and smelling condiments and spices. With some help from the friendly and knowledgeable staff I now have some stuff to experiment with over the weekend. Then I saw someone getting a freshly made sandwich; Goats cheese, fresh cut tomatoes olives and jamon. Lets just say I'm very glad I got one too.Absolutely fresh and delicious. will be going back just for more of these sandwiches. You can pick out anything but I'd say following the recommendations is a good idea
Spanish Mexican grocer. Great place for Spanish or Mexican groceries and small goods. They will make up an epic faccacia sandwich with jambon, manchego cheese olives etc to takeaway for about $6. Yummy
I love this Deli, great choice, helpful staff and spicy chorizo!
Great authentic food. I love this place! It serves authentic alternative.. Will come back for more.
Fantastic source for Spanish and Latin American ingredients, snacks, and cheeses. Went in to pick up some guajillo peppers and left with so much more. The purveyors were also very friendly and helpful.
Such a lovely shop, I bought chamoy and tajin from this shop. To be honest, it was my first time visited Spanish/Mexican grocery shop, and I was so excited to visit this shop, since there are lots of things I’ve never seen anywhere else before including some unique Mexican potato chips, I was interested to try those but I have to change my mind coz the price was a bit too dear 😅 anyway they have lots of fresh Spanish/Mexican pastries and sweets too, might come back to try their pastries in the near future.
Great selection of foodstuffs and some cookery tools. Super friendly staff. Love their queso fresco for arepas and gorditas. I have not found this number of Latin American & Spanish groceries anywhere else in Melbourne.
If you are looking for Spanish, Portuguese or South American food this is the place to go.
Great range, worth the look
Always a pleasure, always Deli…
Like opening the door and automatically appear to the other side of the ocean.
gracias por traer un poquito de casa a este lado del mundo.
great range, we'll be back for more. Good range of cans, spices, meats and desserts
Great Spanish traditional Delicatessen. Very crowded store inside, a little bit dark as it's so full and absolutely chock a block with product. Hams hanging from the ceiling and a Deli counter jam packed with meats and cheeses. They have a great range of Spanish packaged products, spices, chillies, canned and bottled goods, stuff I've never seen anywhere else. The staff are happy to explain or suggest items if your not sure what something is.
