Review Stop 17 / The Writer's Room - Fitzroy

Had a great night playing board games here for most of the evening. Good drinks and food at reasonable prices. The service here was superb. The woman who looked after us was really friendly, helped us pick games and showed us the rules. She was always helpful in ensuring we had food and drink but never badgered us. In chatting to her it was clear they are passionate about what they are doing and keen to lift their already high standards.

love this place. Steve my husband used to go there regularly for breakfast when we were visiting Melbourne from the UK. Comfortable, friendly staff and good food...not forgetting the coffee of course as it is Melbourne after all.

Great coffee and food, warm and friendly service. The upstairs is perfect for those who want a quiet place to work with free wifi access.

Great little cafe. Pop up board games towards the end of the week.

Of all the many, many smashed avocado/poached egg/sourdough places, this place does a good one. Staff is somewhat lacking due to the nearby Pokéstop that they enjoy though

Super laid back, friendly, great breakfasts. A perfect regular for meetings or a nice cup of tea and some peace and quiet.

What a unique and charming place! It really grabbed my eye as i walked past! Its really cosy and charming and the mocha and chicken parma i had really hit the spot! The staff were so friendly and helpful! And thats not all. This place has something really unique about it! During the daytime, they have this charming upstairs area that is the writers room! Its quiet up there, with old books on the shelves, an old typewriter on display and painting of writers on the wall, like Stephen King. Apparently during the daytime, you can go up there and write! I think i might come here during the day one time and write, like my hero, JK Rowling, who loves writing in cafes! :D
And they also have a selection of board games too, and if you have $5 per person, you can play board games there as long as you like! And if you dont know how to play, the friendly staff can teach you! :)
And its open till late too! Very handy! :)
This place is an under-rated gem. The service is really friendly, it's comfortable and you don't have to queue up to get in. The krabby eggs are amazing, coffee is just ok. Keen to go back and try more of the menu, but I'll probably just the krabby eggs again.

This cafe is full of character. And the upper floor is a writers room. I just love that concept! It's a cosy, quiet place where you can have a good time, chilling and reading a book or just to get some work done. We only went there for coffee but the food we saw left is with the will come back ^^

Excellent cafe on smith st. The staff is very friendly, the food really tasty and always playing good music! . Not expensive and good quality. There are hips of cafes in the area, but I always come back to stop 17.

My favourite three words - All Day Breakfast. Food is tasty, service is fast and friendly. Love their thick cut bacon! However, some feedback. Need some sweetness on the breakfast menu - pancakes/waffles would be awesome. Also seating is not that comfortable, could be better. Still a nice little gem so close to home.

Fitzroy’s latest addition to Smith Street, Stop 17 pleases patrons with life’s simple pleasures done well. With a relaxed, unpretentious and uncomplicated approach, the food features a variety of brunch options that will suit everyone, coupled with a friendly ambience. The café serves its own locally blended coffee, Phoenix Coffee - a blend been designed specifically for the café and the Fitzroy area. The menu we features Modern Australian offerings with options for all day breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What a pleasant find this was! Tucked away between a clothing store and stationary shop was Stop17, a cafe that I had never noticed before in my weekly travels down Smith street. Intrigued by their Crab egg breakfast option me and the missus decided to give them a try and man was I glad I did. Really, really nice feed, ample size for both the Crab and smashed Av plus great coffee and service provided by these guys means I'll be back for sure.

Stop 17 is the newest addition to the Fitzroy cafe scene (you also get off at tram stop 17 as well!). Big deal, I hear you say. Sure we have heaps of cafes everywhere but what makes this one special is that upstairs there’s a writer’s room. What’s a writer’s room? It’s a room where you can study / write / contemplate about life and you won’t get rushed out or disturbed unless you want to be. Also, they have BREAKFAST ALL FREAKING DAY!! Let the brunch adventure begin at Stop 17!

As a big reader it is so wonderful to find a place where I can chill, drink a great coffee and utilise the free wi-fi available without being made to feel guilty for occupying a seat for the best part of 2 hours. Friendly staff and a nice Fitzroy feel make this my new favourite cafe in the Fitzroy area.

My favourite new place in Inner Melbourne. Really dig their all day breakfast. Gotta be one of the best places to grab a bite on Smith Street. Will be back for sure.
Sweet And Sour Fork
These massive Fried Chicken Wings ($14, 6pcs) were a total treat. Coated in an intoxicatingly complex Middle Eastern spice rub, these wings were hot and juicy, wrapped in parchment-thin skin that exuded peppery, spicy flavours. Equally as tantalising were the Crumbled Lamb Ribs ($9, 3pcs). The dry crust hid an amazingly unctuous centre of sticky lamb that just fell off the bone, matched perfectly with a side of cool tzatziki.

Ding, Ding! Stop 17 in Fitzroy is Smith Street’s latest addition. Named after the neighbouring tram stop, the casual eatery is manned by Ryan and Tyler (Platform 3 Cafe & Tapas Bar) and chef Piri (ex-Huxtable). Upstairs is Australia’s first ‘Writer’s Room’. A room designed for creative folk to sit back and bang out the words. With free wi-fi, you can expect students to sniff out this space too. The rustic brick interior, features works by local artists based in Fitzroy. Murals of the team’s favourite creators peer down, with caricatures of Quentin Tarantino, Steven King and J.K Rowling. Big ticks on J.K, the writer that made our teenage years magical and
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Newly minted Stop17 takes its name from the nearby stop number 17 of the 86 tram that trundles up Smith Street. It’s been started up by co-owners Ryan and Tyler (also owner-operator of Platform 3 Cafe & Tapas Bar in Carnegie), and Stop17’s chef, Piri, is ex-Huxtable. An all day breakfast and separate lunch and dinner menu features free range and organic produce where possible, and local products includes bread from Noisette, coffee from Phoenix Coffee Group and milk from Saint David Dairy.
The New Fave
Stop 17 is one of the latest food destinations to hit Fitzroy. Offering more than just a bar or cafe, Stop 17 features Australia's first Writers Room - a room dedicated to authors, screenwriters and directors designed to get its visitors' creative juices flowing. And if the Writers' Room isn't enough to conjure up some inspiration - the cocktails surely will. On weekends Stop 17 has a Mixologist on board who, after telling her your preference for taste (e.g. sweet, sour, fruity) will whip you up a unique alcoholic creation.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
We tried the cutely named Krabby Eggs - this ain't no ordinary plate of scrambled eggs - this was da bomb! Imagine blue swimmer crab meat sautéed with garlic, ginger, shallots, red chilli and curry - don't be misled by the ingredients... this ain't curried eggs nor was it Asian style scrambled eggs. This was a beautifully flavoured and balanced dish. It was slightly sweet, a deep savoury umami flavour, a touch of zing from the chilli and loads of freshness from the ginger and shallots. It was a really gorgeous balance of strong flavours that came together perfectly without overpowering the gentle sweetness of the crab. Yum!

FOOD TRIP
Lovely little cafe addition on busy Smith Street in Fitzroy. It's unique selling point? A genuine writers' room! When owner Tyler first pitched it to me, I pictured a bunch of people trying to write a an episode of The Simpsons. Or perhaps Jim Rash talking about the creative process with popular TV shows.
