Review El Camino Cantina - Fitzroy

Jeff Beatton
$2 taco Tuesday isn't really $2 taco Tuesday as you get only a couple of tacos at $2 while the others are $4 etc when you buy a drink. Good thing is you can buy a soft drink if you don't drink alcohol. According to the menu though beers like Corona were out of stock. Food seemed to be made more commercially as it lacked that authentic taste. Brisket taco was good though.

This place is enormous! at the time there was no one but us so the hostess Sunny and Carl were amazing to us. unfortunately this is where the good stuff ends. The food was a bit on the plain side and lacked flavour, something that you need to think about given the prices which In my opinion doesn’t reflect on the quality you’re getting. One good thing though was the free tortillas they give as the starter. perhaps tthe famous $2 taco tuesday might change my mind but it will need a lot of convincing to bring me back here.

Amazing Experience - Great food and even better Cocktails…after visiting El Camino Sydney and not being that impressed we tried our luck at the Melbourne venue from start to finish flawless! Our waitress Helena went above and beyond with her excellent customer service skills, and attention to detail she made our experience one to remember give the gal a pay rise xx I’ve attached pics to confirm the fun we had!

Huge crowd and nice music! However the three tacos I ordered lacked freshness and flavour. It was almost soggy and too liquid with the sauce . Drinks were alright but the younger staff was not friendly that night. They stood by the corner and gossiped about the customers which was not welcoming at all. When we asked for some nachos and dips which is free, the girl sneered and stared at me for taking some. Definitely not a friendly host. Over all, wouldn’t recommend for food.

Really nice place, it's really big so very handy for birthdays or big get together. They have sombreros for everyone that goes there, it's quiet funny! We went on a Wednesday and they have $2 chicken wings with any drink but I could see a $2 taco on Tuesdays. I would definitely go back because the food was delish!!!

Visited here for my friend’s birthday celebration and was keen to see what it’s all about after seeing so much hype about it. I can confirm it’s a vibrant and fun venue! Very quick service, and easy ordering system via a QR code for the table. The food was great, and drinks even better with quite the variety to choose from. Finally, the staff were friendly and accomodating to the needs of our group. Would definitely visit again in the near future.

I was pleasantly surprised when the restaurant replied to my review with a promise to discuss further however I didn’t get a reply to the email I sent. It is a little disappointing however only commenting on the experience I’ve had so far. — Atmosphere is certainly catered to a younger crowd with loud music and a fun party atmosphere which is great for group catch ups. I found the food to be disappointing for the price, and reminiscent of something you could get in a food court. The drinks are okay however look nothing like how they are advertised on their menu so you should temper your expectation on those. The staff were really friendly and attentive which was great.

We booked a place for dinner, as this has been on our list for a while. The place is massive, and the friendly host took us to our table on the top level. There must have been a party on one of the tables, as the floor was a mess, and it reeked of puke, so it wasn't what I would call a grand entrance. It took them a while to clean it once the table was cleared, but it caused us inconvenience as we had to manoeuvre around the place every time we needed to go down. Once we reached the table, there was complimentary tortilla chips with side dippings. We ordered our food and were advised to go down to the bar to order our drinks. There was obviously a long queue, but the drinks were served very quickly once it was our turn. And to our pleasant surprise, the food was on the table once we got back! We ordered the Wing Royale (10 pieces) with Buffalo sauce, Vege Nachos (vegetarian chilli, melted cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, jalapeños, coriander), and Original Spiced Adobo Chicken Fajitas (served with tortillas, pico de Gallo, sour cream, cheese, black beans, Mexican rice, sautéed capsicums, onion, and melted butter). We loved the wings, the nachos, and the classic margarita. As for the atmosphere, the music was way too loud, and the speaker was positioned right above our heads, so we could not hear each other talk. I would say that the quality of the food and the speed with which we received drinks and food more than made up for the mess and the loud music. I will just make sure that I will insist on a table on the ground level the next time I come.

Booked for 7:30 got seated and told our exit time was 8:50 we were left alone for 40 mins as they said it was “table service” and we would get approached. I had to go up to the waitress to ask to order we order drinks they send us an incomplete order we had to wait another 20 mins for the other drink order. Then we waited to order food we did so and waited until 8:50 we still didn’t receive our food. We noticed a table of young white girls who had arrived after us got served so fast even got approached with what looked like our order of food they declined it and yet again we waited for the food to come. The waitress with the food didn’t even approach our table she again went to that table of young girls who didn’t even order food and they clearly turned the food down meaning it would have been ours since we were the ONLY TWO TABLES IN THE AREA.
I approached the staff for the THIRD TIME YEAH? And they said ohh “ we thought you didn’t want the tacos anymore” AND I WAS LIKE ARE YOU SERIOUS? We have been waiting 2 HOURS for our food. Your staff didn’t even have the courtesy to check in with us.
Tbh food arrived cold. We got charged for stupid extras we didn’t even order and it was a shit time. To top it a off the little “ tiktok” girls next to us even got offered FREE DRINKS while we were still waiting for our basic order of food.
Highly recommend coming here if you’re white they’ll love you. Any other minority they’ll over look you and shove you in the corner room where they won’t serve you.
Never coming here again plus all your customers looked underage and they were all throwing up at the front of the restaurant...your staff had to MOP THE SIDE WALK COS OF THE VOMIT... well done.

Great drinks, good service, Dominique was an amazing waitress!!

Our server Jasmine was professional and extremely friendly despite the busy environment. Management was lovely and staff were prompt. Drinks and food were enjoyable. Recommend this place for margaritas and good times! Thanks again to Jasmine :)

We came here on a Friday night and it was quite busy. They got our order wrong three times, and missed out on one. The free nachos were oily and the dip looked questionable. The staff were extremely inattentive and we waited 1 hour for our tacos (and the order was wrong), over 40 minutes for our churros and another 40 minutes for just our drink order (which was also wrong).
Facebook User
Service was terrible and staff were more interested in a gossip session instead of taking our orders as we waited for almost 20mins for our order to be taken (there was only 2 other tables that had already ordered food). Food came out and had no taste and the tacos smelt like plastic. Toilet floor was sticky and hadn't been cleaned from the night before. Only positive was the margaritas. Wouldn't recommend this place.

I went there with a friend and we got the quesadillas (chicken and pork) and they were fine. But later on they gave me and our friend a super upset stomach and felt sick until the next day. Service was also pretty slow and the servers werent great at scanning the area to see if anyone needed any help. Also, I was appalled at $5.50 for a coke zero, which not to mention was not bubbly and tasted diluted with water. The only good thing I would say is that they give you free tortilla chips.

We came for a birthday that was pre-booked. Called up to check whether there was air con in the facility as it was 40 degrees that night. The person on the phone blatantly lied to us and told us that there was aircon and when we arrived staff told us there is no aircon at the facility. Had to wait 40 minutes for drinks to arrive, Waiter got annoyed when we proceeded to cancel drinks, and rolled her eyes at us. I'm not joking when her eyes literally flipped backwards right in front of us. I can not believe the service, i do not recommend anyone to this poorly managed restaurant/bar. They really have to re-train their staff. Disgusting service.

Went here with a group of 4 and we reserved a table, seated with no issues like others described although we were upstairs which was significantly hotter and stuffier than downstairs. We went for the $19 all you can eat tacos. The chicken tacos were good and veggie ones okay but cheeseburger flavoured ones were not good at all. Service was extremely slow they kept giving us the table behind us’ order and food. However they did have GF and vegan options which was nice. Overall was nice and decent but probably won’t go again

My friend and I went to El Camino to enjoy all you can eat tacos for $19 which they are holding during January Sundays. We booked online so no drama for our table arrangement. The atmosphere of the place was amazing! Not somewhere you’d take your grandma but perfect for young groups. It has the vibe of the type of place you’d go with friends to line your stomachs before a night of too many tequila shots at the clubs down the road. It was bright, vibrant, loud and unique.
When we were seated at the table it was really sticky and the tables were so close upstairs that it was a struggle to get into the seats. Not a huge drama though just maybe some more thought needs to go into the table arrangements and more care taken when clearing tables.
We ordered two margaritas and two plates of tacos.
Less than five minutes later 3 plates of tacos come out. The tacos were decent. Nothing amazing but not bad either( cheeseburger tacos were pretty good, vegetarian were very plain) We then watched a waiter take the two Margaritas we ordered to the group in front and they said they only ordered one marg so he turned and left with the other. We then finished our tacos and waited 40 minutes before anyone came over to us (we were there for all you can eat so assumed they’d be prompt). Numerous staff members walked past us and our plates were empty so not ideal. A manager then came over to ask how things were and we said we were waiting on two drinks. She brought them over shortly after and took our order for more tacos. Over all it felt like they were short staffed or the staff on just needed to be trained better. Taking the wrong drinks to numbered tables is a very basic mistake and walking past tables with empty plates and not checking on them is not good service. The place wasn’t awful at all, just needs a few minor fix ups and it would have been heaps better - borderline 3 stars.

Had a great time and enjoyed a few too many frozen margaritas :'). Thanks Connor for making us feel welcome and valued

I went here with my family last night for my mums birthday, I think dissapointed is an understatement. The layout is beautiful it would really fool you, once we had been seated for a while more then ready to have our order taken no one was around, we finally had our order taken and the meals came out pretty quick I can’t fault them on that, the food was average I had the taco and quesadillas and it wasn’t anything special just over priced, I work in hospitality so that’s makes it easier for me to see when people are slacking and not doing there job, once we had finished our food not one person cleared our table, we ended up having to move it to the free table next to us were we payed for table service? I also wanted the cake to come out but there was so staff around so I had to go to the back of the restaurant where the kitchen was, were there were about 5 girls standing around talking and hugging each other while I was quiet clearly standing there for a few minutes, till one girl came up to me (I didn’t get her name) just a FYI I had to go to find a staff member twice and it was the same girl who came up to me while other staff were standing around talking, once she saw me I asked for the cake to be taken out and when it was (by another girl) it was still in the cake box and the candle wasn’t lit? So we asked them to take it back and put it on a plate like any restaurant would, at the end of the night we complained for lack of service and the cake situation. To me it is clear the staff are foreign and not trained properly, I have also seen and heard that they pay there employees to make fake positive reviews and delete bad reviews
As I personally work in hospitality, this is not the way to own a successful business you can make it as beautiful as you want but if the customer service is lacking, the restaurant will shut down pretty quickly. With all these negative reviews maybe the management should have a sit down with there staff and start addressing these problems and resolving them
We will not be back or recommend this place it was horrible.

Trashy! Loud! Free Nacho! Lots of tequila but no one actually orders it, sticking with the margarita on tap or frozen in the slushie machines... I’ll get to that later.

We were doing a tour of various places in Fitzroy and was wondering what this latest incarnation of the converted warehouse was going to be. Let's just say if you're 18-25 looking for a big night out and a free sombrero that's your place. It isn't a cheap night out either. You can fill up on the free nachos, but we ordered a fajita and it wasn't particularly good value.

I asked for the tequila menu and the bartender looked at me like I had two heads! Clearly their usual crowd prefers their tequila in margarita or slammer form. What he recommended was actually a good choice. More alarmingly, we ordered a frozen margarita, didn't like the flavour of it and he was kind enough to pour it back in the machine (we had tasted it by this point) and gave us another one. Excellent service, hygiene not so much!

Don't say you haven't been warned.

Our waiter Jasmine and Mel were a absolutely amazing!! We had a large group and they remembered everything we wanted it was a perfect night for a big group

Vibrant, good crowd , fun place to go as a group
But that’s where it stopped, we had a table allocated to us from 6:15pm to 8:15pm
By 6:30 everyone was there and ready to order
Snacking on a free corn chip bar with avocado dip and a salsa. Scrapping the edges to get some salsa and corn chips that had fallen in the salsa.. the bar wasn’t replenished the first 40 mins of being there until I asked what was the sense of the free nachos when it was empty and dirty... at 6:55 I asked the restaurant manager if it was possible to order drinks and food. No one can past and asked, but staff standing around .
At 7pm we had order taken and with in 8 mins it was on the table..... burrito bowl ! Dry salad no sauce or dressing on the plate. I ended up getting salsa from the nachos bar and using that to moisten the salad, a pile of cold rice in the centre and I added $5.00 of grilled chicken to the bowl that wasn’t more than 100 grams.
Others ate quesadilla 4 small quarters of quesadilla on a plate... that’s it. No salsa no nothing!!
Buffalo chicken wings wow what size quail did those wings come off????? At $18 a serve of 12 pieces (6 full wings) so small it is a joke!! Free nachos??? Nah free anything the prices have covered that 100 x over
Overall won’t be back

I appreciate the range of vegan items and the generous servings of margaritas!

Some things to note
—> dismissive booking lady... we were told all tables were booked and were exiled to the upper level, we then made a booking WHILE at the restaurant and got a table online? So I suggest you make a booking online as they say the restaurant is closed when you call
—> never got our sweet potato chips we ordered and can’t follow instructions to menu alterations
Evaniakarb101
I recommend you have a booking because the hostess will be very rude to you. All tables are reserved for bookings. We attempted to call to make a booking however the phone redirected to a voice mail stating the restaurant was closed... awkward because I was sitting inside when doing so, just so we could get one of the many tables available and not feel exiled on the balcony above the kitchen. After making a booking online and re approaching the hostess we were now allowed to sit on a table, however the hostess’ attitude was still foul. The food took forever, we waited an hour just to get water. Not a fan of the food at all, only good thing was the free nachos & salsa - hence the 2 star rating.

Oh my GOODNESS. I walked into this establishment with a giant smile on my face and it didnt leave the entire time I was there! From the buzzing atmosphere to the awesome Margeritas! The neon colour scheme is so refreshing and makes for an awesome night!

As we are seated, we are told “your booking is for 7, you’ve got to be out by 9” no mention of anything else like specials or the complimentary corn chips you have to get yourself, until 30 seconds later they’re trying to take a drink order. I asked a staff member if they could make a cocktail for me, she said she would ask the bar, I’m still waiting to hear back.
Then 4 out of 5 meals arrived at the table, we got halfway through our food before the last plate came out.
For the amount of money El Camino expects you to pay for food, I would expect the food to be seasoned properly. Everything was bland and under seasoned from the Brisket in the Burrito to the “Pico de Gallo” which looked like just chopped tomato and nothing else, or Guacamole on the Nachos. There was just no salt in anything...No salt or pepper on the table either.

The food is mediocre and the atmosphere lets it down further. Ridiculous loud music, with overpriced food and less than satisfying staff.

Female Toilets were disgusting I’m told by my partner, urine on the seats and floor, toilet paper on the floor and no paper in the dispensers just sat atop the toilets.

Can get a better Burrito at Guzman for $11
Head somewhere else for a better experience.
Maddie Dimitropoulos
Took several minutes for a staff member to address and welcome us when we arrived. Staff did not explain if the restaurant was table or bar service - was very confused. The waiter who served us was not able to provide specific details on what meals to try and failed to explain what was included and what was an add on. When coming to pay, the bill came to $200 with all add on’s that we’re not explained on the menu. The food was very bland and lacked flavour. Food did not taste fresh and was poorly presented. Went to get chips from the self serve station and there was a hair in one of the dipping sauces, when staff where notified, they didn’t seemed bothered and the same tray sat there for the remainder of our visit. Could not pay me to go back and eat here very grotty place. Hope oh&s pays them a visit

First impression - place is huge and so vibrant, we went for taco Tuesday, tacos were good but the cheeseburger taco was incredible we ordered 4 more of them! There was a lot of hype behind the margaritas and they didn’t disappoint, food came out a lot quicker than expected. Only flaw is that the staff didn’t have certain knowledge on some of the specials advertised, understanding it’s a big venue and a lot of floor to cover, however it was a delightful experience highly recommend and will be back!
Paul Evans
Wow what a fantastic Venue we are lucky to have such a fun venue Staff are friendly to food amazing The Margarita are out of this world I am not going to rave on but just go and let your hair down and put on the sobprao
Natalie Blanco
Waited 25 minutes at the bar to be served despite bar tenders acknowledging we were waiting and then was served by incredibly rude staff. Also didn’t receive all of the food we ordered.

Jasmine made this night 2 stars better 😁 Her customer service is 10/10!!
Squeezed 6 on a 4 person table. Slow ordering & confused staff. Food was small variety and not great taste wise. Wouldn’t come back

Wasn't very impressed with this restaurant. If you like an atmosphere of loud top 40 music and bright kitchy neon lights then go for it, but don't expect great quality tacos either. Tried both the $2 taco range and the wings and the quality wasn't great at all. Wouldn't go back.

I have been to this place on Tuesday where in they had 2$ tacos which were so tasty with appropriate salad and chicken for one serve and had nachos which are tasty too and churros which went good with the sauce and even had jarritos ( Mexican drinks ) tasted strawberry, orange and guava flavours and overall the place has a very good vibe and mainly loved their theme with pleasant ambience and the hats were given to every table and while checkout got a free hat upon request which was so good of them and I would completely recommend this place to any group of people who are looking for some happening place with good menu options ..!
Martie Arkalis
The food was nothing special, service was okay at best. Venue is perfect however. Drinks are the only good thing about the place. Would go for a few drinks with friends but would rather make my own Mexican food at home it would be better quality.
Berozgaar_engineer
Fun loving place where you can dance while enjoying nice Mexican food. They played very good old UK top 40 party hits from 90s and 2000 to which the entire crowd went nostalgic and danced to the core.
Callum Elliot Jones
Great service by staff, unfortunately the food lacked flavour or moisture. Dry consistency of food in general, probably won't visit again. Possibly used Uncle Ben's Rice? Free nachos were a hit though
Mellie
We were seated at 10 to 6, however, despite trying to engage staff we weren’t offered drinks until 5 past 6 - after happy hour had finished. Both corn chip “cars” were out of chips. There was only 1 staff member behind the bar and I had to go and collect our drinks from the bar - which were re-poured on offer from the barmaid as the beers had been siting there so long they’d gone flat. We ordered 6 plain wing’s for our 3 year old and buffalo wings for us. All the wings came out without sauce on them. Really basic things done badly. The saving grace was the 10c wings, which once sauce had been added were quite good.
The toilets were gross. Leaking toilet in the ladies, untidy. Men’s toilets stank and the urinal was blocked and overflowing. As part of the Rockpool group I expected it to be better.
Northcote20
Went for taco Tuesday, had a booking but still had to wait about 15 minutes in line to get a table even though there were a number of empty tables around. We sat down and ordered food and drinks, and our first lot of tacos came out pretty quick. They were pretty average but we didn’t have high expectations for $2 tacos! It took 45 mins to get our two drinks and a bottle of water to the table are the tacos. after asking the waitresss she came up to us approximately 3 times asking what we were waiting for, and then saying she was going to go make them herself, which just repeated. We could tell she was stressed and busy, so we didn’t kick up a stink. More staff is obviously needed! The nachos were pretty lack lustre and not worth the $19. Overall, it was nothing special. The venue looked cool, but the food and service was pretty dismal for the price and will not go back at all! 🤢
Caramel Cupcake
I literally do not understand the low rating. On Tuesdays, there are $2 tacos. There is also a happy hour where you can get $7.5 frozen margaritas. For $50 you can get a margarita tower. This served 3 people 4 times each. There is also free chips. Anything lower than a 5/5 is a lie and should be considered as haram. I am also vegetarian and was pleasantly surprised by the $2 vegetarian taco. Slam 5 of them and you’ve got a meal and a half for $10. None of this loud 🗣🗣🗣 negativity, El Camino Cantina was blessings on blessings. Only ?!? thing was the sombreros on each seat of the ground floor. It’s 2019, are we still doing that cultural appropriation ting? 🤔🤔🤔 Anyway, good food and you get more than what you pay. Bless up, the staff are great too. An absolute vibe.

Had a great Saturday night at El Camino. Good music and vibes, great food, and love that they had free baskets of tortilla chips you could go and grab! Service was a bit slow with servers taking a long time to come back after we asked for something, but granted it was a full house on a Saturday night this was to be expected. Pro tip: order the loaded nachos
Michael L.
Generous 1 star. Not Tex Mex - Steak is not Fajita. Free chips are nice touch, but all downhill from there. Expensive and still hungry. BAD.
Rockabetty
Some of the worst service I have ever experienced. We went in because it looked quiet. They asked if we had a reservation which we didn’t and the person greeting us got very flustered and said he didn’t know where to put us. (There were only 4 tables with people actually seated) After 15 mins we were seated and told someone would come and collect our order. 30 mins later someone came to take out order. When the food finally came out it wasn’t anything close to what we ordered, after 3 sets of tacos coming to our table that weren’t ours we finally got our food with 2 dishes missing extras (which they did take off the bill after we asked them to). The food was nice and the drinks were tasty but everything else was a nightmare. The ‘free chips’ were empty the entire time we were there and when we went to pay other people were complaining they had random items added to their bill. This place looks cool inside but it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

1.7 being generous
Honestly worst resteraunt/ place I’ve been to
Service was friendly, we had a lovely young lady serve us, she was nice and polite, from there it was the most rapid downhill ever
We had the all you can eat taco set menu
Entrees were boring and bland, they provided what was already provided for free
The tacos, pulled pork, chicken, seared steak, vege and cheese burger, every single one of them were tasteless, dry and horrible
We finished with churos, which were acceptable!
The best part of the meal was the pint of beer, and even that took half an hour to come out!
Venue is stunning, I think that’s what is saving this place, every body is trying it, because they feel like they have to, wont last long with that food! Won’t be back
Our server jasmine was amazing! She was so lovely and helpful for all of us

Great food and amazing service am going back again this weekend! Door was perfections :)

Simon
This the first time we've ever walked out without paying (with the consent of the restaurant)

The place looks great and is a lot of fun but our entrees took 40 mins (nachos but hard) and drinks took 45 mins to show up. A bottle of water came after 1 hour. Mains did not show up until 2 complaints to the host around 100 mins and then some Mains did not show. After over 2 hours we had enough and decided to leave.

Staff were very apologetic but really disappointing.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: really enjoyed my meal here - I remember having it in Sydney and it’s no different.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: name me a place that gives out unlimited nachos?? NONE! This place is amazing and has great vibes especially on a Friday night or weekend. Loved the tacos especially the fish ones.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: N/A

🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great place for Mexican!
Electra
This has been on my to do list for a while now, and I finally made it!
We came without reservation so we were seated at the bar until a table was available (45 minute wait on a Friday, pretty decent!)
Whilst waiting we had some margaritas (classic and strawberry), both delicious!
The interior is amazing and music gets you dancing and singing!
Once seated we ordered pork, chicken and mushroom tacos, nachos with the lot, quesadillas and that filled the two of us!
Also love that they sell metal straws for $1!
Overall I really enjoyed this place and would love to come back for a birthday or some sort of event.
I also thought it would be a cool idea if you guys had a photo booth?!
Cmzajicek
My husband and I visited for the half-priced fajitas today! The meat on the fajitas were quite nice, really juicy and tender, but not enough vegetables underneath for us and would’ve preferred the sour cream, salsa and cheese to be separate rather than all mixed in together! The winner was the free corn chips and salsa station, which were warm, flavoursome and delicious!!

Pictured is the:

1. Hickory Smoked BBQ Brisket Fajita
2. Original Spiced Abodo Chicken Fajita
3. Corn Chips & Salsa
Melbourne Food Spotter
Great place for drinks. Food was a tad overrated, not as good as I had expected. Staff is extremely friendly. We even got some Mexican hats. Overall pretty average, great to visit with friends but wouldn't always go out of my way for the food here.
Warren Louey
El Camino Cantina has a colourful, Mexican inspired décor. There are screens playing music clips in this lively venue. For dinner we had Nachos ($19) and Buffalo Wings ($18) for entrée and for mains we shared the Hickory Smoked Bbq Smoked Fajitas, ($32), and Grilled Chicken Quesadillas ($12.50). The Buffalo Wings were not my favourite dish. The other dishes were all very good with the Fajitas being the best.
For dessert you only have one choice, Churros, which comes with salted caramel and chocolate sauce (5 for $9).

Besides the food, I suspect most people come for the margaritas. They come in multiple flavours and different sizes and you can order them frozen or on the rocks. For a 15oz its $15, for a large 24oz glass its $19 and for the massive tower, which is made for sharing, its $49. On this occasion I had the flavour of the day which was coconut. It was very nice although the coconut flavour was not very predominant and there was a lot of ice in the glass.

This is a great place for groups for friends to get together, especially if you enjoy a margarita or two.
Wilko Tea
Love the atmosphere there, real vibrant colours! Went on a Thursday night during happy hours and had a special for their Margaritas and Fajitas and they were great!
Split The Bill
Just ok - with the large range of competitive Mexican these days the food was nothing to rave about. Apart from the Mexican sombero which i am sure will be an insta hit that was about all.

Btw not sure if this place is a bar or restraunt as some of us were askes to show ID on arrival. The person under 18 luckily didn't attend but i would not be impressed if we could not get in! Might be a good idea for management to advertise this if this is the case to avoid disappointment.

Had high expectations for El Camino. Went on a Tuesday afternoon for Taco Tuesday. Left feeling very unfulfilled. Felt like the quality of the food is very cheaply made and closer to a Taco Bill than a more premium Mexican such as Fonda. Ordered the jalapeño poppers which you receive 3 tiny ones filled with cream cheese (?) which were bland. Nachos average and tacos contained very dry meat. Cocktails were nice though so good place to drink. Honestly would rather eat at GYG.
Olivia Chiarello
I’m so disappointed to write this because the atmosphere and overall vibe in this place was amazing and well exceeded my expectation. Sadly I’m most certain I got FOOD POISONING ☹️☹️☹️ I ordered the chicken taco and quesadilla and although was very tasty at the time was not worth it. Would love to come back but quite hesitant to!!!
Shalini Raj
I went on the opening weekend and my first impression was great- what a cool, fun space. Perfect party vibe. 2nd impression was of the staff. They were friendly and helpful but overwhelmed either due to crowds or just coz they are new. This I think would improve over time. They had a free nacho chip counter with a few toppings- gauc, salsa etc. the whole counter was a mess and looked disgusting. Obviously drunk people + a diy nacho counter is a bad idea.
Food & drink was very average. Was ok but I was not blown away and not worth the hype or price.
This place is for those who like Taco Bill etc. The 21 year old me would have loved it but now after experiencing the authentic, fresh Mexican Melbourne has to offer I was very unimpressed. I won’t be going back.

El Camino is a place of great vibes with fluoro lights, oldschool pop music and most importantly - a generous free chips and dips station!!

Ordered:
🍟 Loaded Nachos: melted cheese, black beans, chilli con carne, smoked bbq brisket pico de gallo, sour cream & guac ($34.00)
🍱 Amigos Platter: jalapenos poppers, guacamole, buffalo wings, quaso blanko, cheese burger tacos, mushroom & cheese quesadilla, ensalada mexicana ($34.00)
[Cardillac Tacos]
🌮 Chargrilled Steak 🌶🌶🌶: caramelised onions, cilantro, mojo de ajo, salsa habanera ($7.00)
🌮 Cheeseburger 🌶: ground beef, queso, lettuce, mustard aioli ($6.00)

Review:
We definitely overordered for 3 girls.

The loaded nachos were INSANELY big. I'd recommend this dish because somehow, each chip has some sort of cheese sauce... I'm talking about the bottom chips too! This amount of detail is so appreciated.
The smoke bbq brisket is is small chunks that somehow melt in your mouth and are awesome pops of dark flavour. Make sure you bring a lot of friends to help you demolish this dish too!

Amigos Platter was great, although personally was not a fan of the cheeseburger taco. The ground beef felt a bit plain - more mustard aioli and less ground beef?
Otherwise please smash more salt into that ahaha.

Chargrilled Steak's 3x🌶 rating is absolutely no joke. My spicy tolerance is pretty good, but I felt like each bite could've been my last. Absolutely for the thrill seekers because finishing it gave me that post winner's glow, as though I had just ran a marathon.

Visited this funky new restaurant on a Sunday night and was impressed by my experience.

As we first walked in the decor and general vibe of the restaurant was an instant hit.

We made our choices from the menu but we did have to wait a while before being served by a waitress. We ordered:

Buffalo Wings: 5/5 Spicy, full of flavour and the mango sauce was to die for
Pulled Pork Quesadilla: 3/5 Not much flavour and Pork was a little chewy
All flavours of Taco except mushroom: 4/5 some were hit and some were miss, my personal faves were the cheeseburger and the pork

Overall a nice place with a good vibe and food with lots of flavour. Not super pricey even with the 10% Sunday surcharge. I will be back!

Cool concept with a vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff. Love the free tortilla chips and huge frozen margaritas. We ordered the guacamole which was ok, a tad bland and pricey I thought. The buffalo wings were more vinegary than I’m used to, but were nice with the cheese mayo and an absolute bargain at 10c each (on Wednesdays). The carnitas and barra tacos were not bad, although the chicken taco was my fav with a very tasty marinade. Didn’t try the burritos but my partner said it was good.

Great spot to go out with a big group for food or drinks, lively atmosphere and lots of fun, make sure you get a giant frozen margarita in one of the many flavours. Food is nothing special but the place is huge with lots of big tables so plenty of room compared to some of the smaller eateries along brunswick st that have much better Mexican food

We went here last Saturday night for dinner and LOVED it. The food was delicious, the drinks were amazing (we had a lot of margaritas) and the service was great. Despite what some of the reviews say about the music being 'too loud', this was certainly not the case for us. We had a party of 8 and could hear everyone just fine. The music was super fun, a mixture of 80s and 90s. The ambience is great, and I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting a fun night out for dinner. The only negative was that we were a little bit hungry at the end, just because the serving sizes are a bit small... we will just order more next time! Overall, great vibe, service, food, music and drinks. Can't wait to go back!

El Camino Cantina take the place of Fitzroy Social in this high ceilings multizoned building and the city end of Brunswick Street. Plenty of prestige behind this venture and plenty of tex mex cheer here including Mexican hats over every table and a helpful corn chip and salsa station for this a little peckish. Friday night and there was quite a crowd and plenty of staff on to help with ordering. Staff were enthusiastic and engaging and did a great job of convincing us we needed a margarita or two on the table. Really good tequila levels in these drinks and the 24ounce serve (700ml) represented good value at only $19.

Speaking of value they have a number of special nights including $2 Taco Tuesday, 10c Wings Wednesday and half price happy hour drinks most days.

Food wise the kitchen were impressive with how fast the food came out. I had a variety of tacos from steak to cheeseburger to prawn and all of them delicious... the prawn one with extra spicy sauces was perhaps my favourite but the steak was a pretty close second. We also shared the vegetarian nachos which had buckets of cheese on top and the chicken quesadillas. Our dessert of choice was a serve of churros with both chocolate & caramel sauces. These were a little underdone unfortunately and we only received four of the five and had to go chasing the 5th.

Overall a fun buzzy atmosphere and the hyper Mexican feel is sure to appeal.

We visited as a group of five for dinner tonight and I was bursting with anticipation to see what the Rockpool group could do with this beloved location previously incarnated as the Fitzroy Social. I loved the concept, it’s Tex Mex on steroids and impossible to be unhappy within the the bright vibrant interior. Not to mention the Chevy packed with complimentary self serve chips and salsa!

Embrace the theme, don a colourful hat and order a Margherita. I went for mango one of the others chose the flavour of the month which was vanilla, both tasty and certainly not stingy on the tequila. Service was efficient and bubbly. We started with a round of delicious nachos as we perused the menu shaped to resemble a record.

I ultimately went for a chicken quesadilla and prawn taco. These were both extremely tasty, cheesy but not oily and as for the taco really flavoursome and beautifully barbecued perfectly paired with creamy avocado. I really enjoyed my selection.

We finished with some fabulously made churros taken to even more heavenly heights when dipped into the caramel sauce. One slight hitch here we were brought four instead of the five the menu stated and it took an eon for that to be rectified. Points for bill splitting though. I hope they outlast this seemingly cursed location!

Very disappointed with the service, withholding the whole table from having alcoholic drinks when one person doesn’t have ID is discrimination (even when they didn’t intend on having a drink).
Especially when they can’t justify the difference between a group of university students having drinks and a family with underage kids. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
