Delish curries and very friendly service. Very well priced. Will be our go local Thai from now on
Food was great as was the beautiful wall mural. A nice touch was the fact the menu included a pic of each dish if you are not familiar with it. I had the fishcake larb and son in law eggs
Delicious food and good value, friendly service. On a winter's night the spicy but not fiery tom yum goong was authentic, aromatic, and warming. The pad Thai was good. If the soft shell crab was more delicately fried the dish with papaya salad would have been awesome.

Some of my fondest food memories are from this place, and I'm gutted to now be living on the south side outside of food delivery range. :( I'll admit I never ventured from the basil chili tofu stirfry, but my friend had the beef massaman curry once, which was pretty good. My only gripe is that I could never order a large coconut rice. Thank you for feeding me on so many abject nights.
One of the best Thai takeaways I’ve ever had. I was too hungry to take pics but I will next time!
The red curry was so flavourful and thick, plenty of vegetables and tofu.. the pad see ew was amazing! I find the noodles in this dish are often over-cooked by restaurants and get all broken up, but they were still intact and long! 😍 Veg was all cooked to the right amount and not over.
The veg curry puffs were deliciousssss. They aren’t the silly tiny triangle ones either, they’re a slightly larger, more plump and oval kind. Very nice.
Thank you :D New regulars!
Really impressed! We ordered takeaway directly from here. - not sure if that made a difference as we were able to talk to them. Despite the long wait (about 45 mins for food as it was busy that night), it was worth it. The Pad Thai was real, made from proper Thai ingredients of Tamarind paste. There were plenty of beautifully cut vegetables in the mix. We also ordered the Green curry which was deep in flavour, nice and rich and went really well over their soft steam rice. The spring rolls were also good. We are now keeping their number for future Thai takeaways and will try out the other dishes on the menu.
Great experience! The staff were lovely and attentive. The food came out quickly and it was all delicious. It's also BYO. What's not to love!
Really great tasting food at a reasonable price. Crying tiger and tom yum fried rice really tasty, the tofu in the rice was crispy on the outside and smooth on the inside. Found them on foodora and very happy. Will order from them again
One of the best Thai food I've had in Melb! All dishes are so fresh. The tom yum soup is well cooked and the basa fish tastes soft but well seasoned. The overall decoration is lovely too. Oh, and the price is friendly as well.
Delicious authentic Thai at a very reasonable price. The restaurant had a very calm rustic ambiance and the owners were charming. We'll be back!
Little, unassuming place on the wrong end of Smith St. The roaring trade being done by third party delivery services tells me this must be a local favourite.
Loved the decor and loved the food!!! The stand out dish tonight Larb Gai and the pad thai. We also ordered the tamarind curry with duck, but we all thought, it might have gone better with chicken instead. Dessert platter was a good idea and the portion wasn't too big.
Bu bu bub. 💓 what a wonderful place. Curries are delicious and are generously sized. Beautiful little restaurant as well. The delivery service is nice and quick as well.
Not the best Pad Thai I've ever eaten but certainly not the worst. The meal was not oily or inedible. The noodles were slightly under cooked so that's mostly what brought the meal down and the roti was not the best. Fantastic amount of vegetables in my veg Pad Thai.
Very fresh and authentic thai food. Also surprising that nothing was overly sweet, salty or oily. Truly a rare find for Thai food, especially in Fitzroy.
YES I love the Pad Thai from here, It's got so many different components and the flavour is soon good. buubbub thai is so good for who love authentic and spicy food,
Best Thai restaurant in town! Try tom-yum goong and pad-thai. Authentic Thai, spicy, tasty and good service!! Must come once in your life time
Often come here with friends for a quieter dining experience on Smith St. Tom Yum soup is ace, as is the green curry. I think a lot of people jump on the hip-train for Smith St and rate places higher if they are expensive, or keeewl. This place has a lower price point, and is a bit daggy (in a cute way), but the quality and friendly service is still here. And they have cool spoons.
These guys are always great as a go-to for some easily delivered Thai. Green curries hit the spot and the delivery is always under an hour! Keep up the great work.
Walked in from the street last night. It was quiet so our food came out quickly. I ordered my Thai favourite peanut Satay chicken and my husband ordered the coconut curry chicken. We ended up sharing as coconut curry was so so good. Maybe my new favourite. Will definitely be going there again. Good service too.
Good!!!!. 9/29 night i finished work after passed the thai restaurant, before never seen it, have been there the first time with my husband, we are totally happy with it, we ordered the masala lamb curry, it was delicious, lap kai salad is my favourite, oh my god! it was absolutely delicious, should go to try more different curry next time! look forward the other tamarind curry , the service was great, the staff is so friendly and active to come to talk together, sweet smile, also the atmosphere is so good! everything is good! but except one thing. when we wanted to order, but the counter was just only one girl, phone rang up also have the other customers came to the shop wanted to order, we waited a bit longer time for ordering the food! anyway, im happy with this restaurant!
im strongly recommended people go to try the lap kai salad!that was so nice!
today was the anniversary with my husband, we chose that restaurant for our dinner was great! quiet n soft music, good service and active, pleasure it ,thanks for giving a great dinner, we will come the next time again for surely,
Pretty decent. Massaman was tight. Could had a thicker gravy but the flavours were good- especially the tang of the tamarind. It's nice to get Asian cuisine that doesn't pander to underdeveloped palats. I could critique their choice of cut. Gravy beef is fine for slow cooking but in this dish, had the intrusive qualities of lamb necks. Totally delicious but that top-heavy fat overtone. You know the one. If you don't, check out lamb necks.
The Pad Thai was apparently good but I didn't try it.
If the beer special is up, don't expect a consolation price on something else if they tell you they ran out when you order.
Atmosphere is fine. Lighting and layout are mild enough and the staff leave you to alone to chuck a hang.
Pricing is reasonable. Have a crack.
My new local for Thai takeaway. Massaman curry with tofu, veg and cashews was delicious.
Disappointed that curry puffs were totally run of the mill but luckily they are a little bit tasty :p
Will be a repeat customer here nevertheless.
Tamarind Dreams. Wasn't really sure what to expect when we turned up here late on a Monday night. We definitely got a surprise at the quality Burmese food on offer. It is definitely not your average Thai restaurant. I had the Tamarind Curry and it was without a doubt the best SE Asian curry I've have ever had! The staff are also super friendly. Definitely my new local takeaway asian joint.
Friendly, polite, efficient service. Lovely food, reasonably priced. Had a very tasty noodle dish. They kindly remade my son's curry when he unintentionally ordered it too hot.
Good food , good value. My friends and I , we went to buubbub Thai last night. It's was very nice place. The food was great and the service was the best I had ever seen before in Melbourne.
Burmese bouillabaisse. I've been on an Asian soup binge recently, and after some good laksas the previous two nights, I was in the mood for Thai or maybe ramen. The odd name and the weird piggy logo on BuuBub's sign caught my eye, so I grabbed one of their takeaway menus outside the door. Did you know that Moh Hin Gha is the national soup of Burma? Neither did I until I read that. Since Aung San Suu Ky and Rohinga boat refugees have been in the news recently (the latter are a Muslim ethnic minority group of fishermen who are being pogrommed by the majority Buddhists in Myanmar) I reckoned I was meant to sup that soup.
Laksa it ain't! It's a fish soup whose predominant flavour comes from dried fish flakes. Don't look too closely or you'll see how many iridescent fish scales you're eating. There are also sliced-up fish cakes, the ones with the rubbery mouth feel that are in lots of Chinese/Indonesian soups. It's not overpoweringly fishy, though. Moh Hin Gha is made with a water-based broth, not coconut milk. It has red chile oil and curry flavours, not too spicy-hot unless you ask for that. BuuBBub uses flat rice noodles, the shape of Italian linguine. Aside from sliced spring onions, there wasn't a lot of veg, but BuuBBub did throw in a hardboiled egg. How Indonesian!
The overall impression I got was like a curried version of French bouillabaisse. I liked it because I'm a slave to novelty. BuuBBub's decor is interesting, with one wall dominated by a huge painting filled with images from Burmese folk mythology. I didn't find the service off-putting, just a bit awkward because of a language barrier. The most uncomfortable thing was that I was the only person in the restaurant for the final half hour I was there (8:30 -- 9 p.m. on a Wednesday.) BuuBBub is an uncommon restaurant that deserves better patronage from people who want something different to typical Thai and Malaysian places.
7 course dinner with voucher. Just had dinner at Buubbub and it was fantastic! Food was very tasty and the service was exceptional. We will be back.
Today is the first time for me to tried Burmese food. I ordered coconut chicken curry and its was very tasty. If you like to try burmese food do not hesitate to dine in here. Highly recommend.
Great food. Had the seafood curry and tamarind curry along with roti w/peanut sauce and everything was perfect. Although the service is not 5 star it's very genuine and caring.
Loved this place!. My boyfriend and I just ate at BuuBBuB tonight and were very satisfied with the food. It was truly amazing, we frequent thai restaurants but have never tried Burmese before. I had the Ohn-noh Khauk Swae which was AMAZING, the coconut flavors in the dish were delightful and my boyfriend had the Yellow Split-Pea Curry with coconut rice which he really enjoyed as well. The service was great as well and the food came out really quickly, we are DEFINITELY going back to this place.
Went to BuuBBub tonight and it was ideal. Quiet, brilliant food and well priced! If you like Burmese kitchen but want to eat in, this is the place! Cash only and I suggest byo wine. Highly recommend!
