Review Copacabana International - Fitzroy

Christy Christy
The food and drinks are good. There were 8 meats, 1. chicken wings 2. Chicken hearts 3. Chicken drum stick 4. pork sausage 5. Pork neck 6. Lamb 7. Steak slices 8. Beef rib If you're not a chicken lover you do need to wait a while for other meats to appear. The salads are basic and complement the meats. You can have unlimited meat and salads which start from 730pm. The steak slices were the nicest. The staff were friendly. We would have liked there to be some show or dancing earlier rather than later. The show starting at 10pm was a bit late since we arrived at 730pm. Overall quite a good night and definitely worth the groupon deal for a one off experience but I would not be keen to pay the full price.

Good amount of shenanigans, the floor show is quite the spectacle. Alot more saucy and flavourful than the meats circulating on the sticks. The salad bar's not half bad...

One of my favourite places for a night out in Melbourne A beautiful night were you can enjoy a great (open Buffet) dinner plus entertainment for $55 only The place offers DJ, live band (some nights), dances from different Latin American countries and lots of other entertaining programme involving the audience as well Food, music, dances and heaps of fun all in one place. I highly recommend this place and would advise to try it once at least, I'm sure you'll enjoy it

This place is so much fun!! I came here on a saturday night, had dinner with my partner. Meat was really good, from the Lamb to pork and more and more! Buffet was ok, simple choices but Still good. After dinner we have enjoyed the show!! Wait staff was amazing as well! Thank you!

Oh. My. God! Best meal & entertainment combination! The sexy meat wielding waiters and booty shaking Brazilian goddesses offered an amazing evening for date night. All you can eat Brazilian barbecue with access to a salad bar unlike any other. Words can't even explain how good this was of an experience.

Copacabana is a Brazilian club in Smith Street Collingwood. They have a salad bar and then after you get some salad the waiters bring meat around to everyones table individually. Later the dj gets a group, from the diners, on stage to go through a dance routine that he teaches them. The food is 'ok' id say at best but the bar has quick service and the whole night is a huge amount of fun overall. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a fun packed night.

Lovely food and good entertainment. The dance instructor was very funny. Please renew his visa.

Incredible place to enjoy. Wonderful food and the entertainment... no words to describe, simply fantastic! Highly recommend

I’ve been wanting to check this place out, so glad I got the chance to do that. The salad bar has a great selection, fresh and delicious. The bbq meat was good, nice but nothing to rave about. The dance and entertainment was wonderful, very professional dancers, a good length of time and also included Brazilian martial arts which is cool. Great night out for anyone, well worth a visit

The place is very fun, with salsa classes during dinner. They serve an all you can eat brazilian style barbecue and the food is good, but the show is better. Drinks are nice too.

Went for Xmas Work party on a Saturday night, packed in like sardines, the chairs were so tight couldn’t even stand up to get more food.<br/>Salad bar had fruit flies all over it, DISGUSTING<br/>Meat was cold, chewy and bland & had no flavour<br/>Only good thing was the pork sausage<br/>I ordered a mojito had no taste of buzz of alcohol just tasted like straight up soda water.<br/>Will never come back again very disappointed.

My family and I went to Copacabana for an early Christmas dinner, and we were in the upstairs part where there is entertainment (a couple of shows) and a DJ afterwards. I believe downstairs had a band and then a DJ, I checked downstairs a couple of times but I think for a family friendly environment, I would recommend upstairs. Loved the vegetarian options, and meat was decent but I'm not a person who loves meat anyways - the rest of my family loved it. Unfortunately, my brother in law gave a waitress his card to charge for a glass of beer, but they charged for a jug instead - they gave us a "free" cocktail but technically it was already paid for by their mistake. However, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The entertainment was interesting, fun and interactive. Loved the experience.

After reading poor reviews and upon initial impression of this place, I wasn't expecting much. But I was actually pleasantly surprised! It's incredible that this massive venue is hidden right off Smith. It has an old-school members only drinking hole kind of vibe in the lounge upstairs, and the main dining room is rustic and lodge-like.<br/><br/>I was there with a group on a pay per head dining plan. I was told that my vegetarian option was whatever's on the salad bar, and that I'd also receive a kitchen item later. I never did... But the salad bar was more than enough to satisfy me. The beetroot quinoa salad, in particular, was delicious. So much plant based protein, so much variety of veg. Not just chips and plain lettuce.<br/><br/>I skipped dessert, but did grab a slice of barbecued pineapple, a simple delight. As for drinks, most are overly sweet and not very strong, but the mojito is alright and the caipirinha is even better.

Horrible experience, went for the school function and was charged 40$ pp, was asked for meal pref...and all I got for veg meal was shoestring fries and salad....sure they could have done better than that......sorry to say very disappointed!

Are you looking for something different? Maybe a like of Brazilian/Puerto Rican type of food and entertainment? This might be an option you'd like to consider. Food is Average, but the ambiance and energy is overflowing. Go and see yourself and you'll know.

We found this place through Groupon voucher. It was a really good surprise. We are south american and this felt really close to home. It is one of the best places to get a full Latinoamerican experience. The meat is really good as you get the brazilian meat experience to your table together with an all-you-can-eat food bar. I absolutely recommend this place, maybe not so much for the food, but for the overall great experience!

Girlfriend bought Groupon voucher for this place, and it was a pleasant surprise. I love my BBQ meats just like any other guy. This all you can eat Brazilian BBQ takes it up a notch with exhilarating live show.<br/><br/>The only let down of the night was the booking system and the service at the start. We booked via Groupon (as it was supposed to be done), but the booking never showed up on their system. We waited at the bar and bought two delicious cocktails while they checked, just to be rudely told by the guy at the door that by booking on Groupon does not guarantee us a seat in the restaurant, and that we should come back another day... I was shocked at the explanation and the fact that we bought drinks and legitimately booked days ago did not matter at all. We were just about to complain when a senior staff took over and went to the back to check. Eventually everything was sorted and we were taken to our table, albeit at the side of the stage so our view of the show was restricted.<br/><br/>After getting over the poor experience everything worked out nicely as the night went on. We had at least six types of meat, including roast lamb, roast beef, chicken wings, sausages and pork. Each was brought over to our table, and the meat taken off a large skewer in front of you. You can ask for as much as you like. The highlight was the beef and lamb, we both had multiple servings of each. Vegies and other foods can be found at the salad bar, I would go for a round before the meat arrived. <br/><br/>The highlight of the night was the stage performance, lots of humour, dancing and audience participation. Overall it was great fun, I would certainly recommend anyone who loves BBQ to try it out at least once, great atmosphere! Just make sure to call them to ensure your booking registers on their system if you book through Groupon.

The place was hard to get to as there wasn’t available parking. The music and wait staff were very entertaining, but our waiter went MIA sometimes. Food was nice and very filling, great place for a night out.

Went last night with a group of friends for a birthday. I was a bit worried that i was gonna be hungry, but i think the wait times for the meat gives you time to digest your food.It was extremely busy last night which would have contributed to the wait. There were more items that were GF than what is indicated on the menu. At the buffet they had a list of what meats they were serving that night and what was GF and what was not. Lots of different salads and seafoods at the buffet but i was only after the chips, which i was told were GF as well (Even though not marked that way on the menu)There were only 2 meats last night that i couldn't have, but i still had to ask the waiter every time whether the meat was GF as he seemed to forget that there were two of us at the table. I asked him about the beef ribs, he said he would check and then i never saw the ribs again (That was the second meat that came around). After that he had a list in his pocket that he could check whether the meal he was serving was GF. I had pork, lamb and chicken which were all grilled to perfection with a smokey flavour. There were two GF desserts out of four (Fruit salad and Creme Caramel) I had the creme caramel which was ok - not terrible, but not fantastic either. Would have been great with some cream. Table service for drinks which is awesome, although a bit slow, just make sure you have money and they will bring your drink and whatever change you require. We had to keep asking for refills of water jugs which wasn't ideal considering they kept asking everyone about bar drinks. The show starts very late, and goes for about 40 mins. In between the meals and the show there is a band that plays and also music to dance to. It gets very hot in there (No air con) and they have big industrial fans that they turn on above the tables, so watch out for those. We had one blowing right on our table which ruined my hair (kept blowing all over the place including in my face) and also made me freeze. Fan locations should perhaps be thought about again?
Nick The Greek
The buffet style food is pretty basic , but the highlight is the range of barbecued meats that are delivered to your table and taken off the skewers in front of you.A bit of fun with crowd interaction in the floor show. Leave room for the desserts.
Shane Wright
Flavours of Brazil, so many many choices to pick from from the salad bar, and then the BBQ meats just kept rolling out, great food and the South American band adds an authentic feel, however if I was to be picky on the negatives, bad view of the stage, poor quality desert, and paid full price for a piña colada mocktail? You can't charge full price for only half the real thing surely, and our rocky table was just annoying, and what happened to the Brazilian dancers were they sleeping backstage, or just got the axe because I remember Brazilian dancers on my first visit, anyway overall pretty good.

Wow! What a fun night! Came here for dinner and had an absolute blast. The staff were friendly, plenty of tasty food and the music was so good everyone was up on the dance floor. They had a band playing from 9:45pm and then dancers from 11pm. I would happily come back here with a group of friends to dance and laugh the night away. Drinks are reasonably priced too!

The food was just fine, and seating average. But this is not what the place is known for. This place is known for its salsa theatrics and entertainment. It was good. A good place to hang out with friends and family, if you are interested in dance et al..
Kara Fiorentino
I came here with a few friends last week and we had great night out. The salad bar had a huge selection of hot and cold food and they were constantly bringing around the meat on skewers. I highly recommend the ribs, they were a stand out. The traditional caipirinha cocktails are amazing as well. Very attentive and friendly staff, great entertainment!
Andrew
Came here for a Wedding celebration.<br/>Entertainment at this place is the highlight. A lot of audience involvement and great Cuban music and dancing.<br/>You don't come here for the food as the meat that they bring out and cut for you is very average with no real standout flavour.<br/>The buffet with salads, rice etc is very small and is not open for a very long time.<br/>Also, the ambience at this place is not very nice at all. Maybe time for a refresh?
Sorrento
Went on $79 for 2 Groupon. Chicken & rump steak were highlights (very succulent, well cooked), the sausage disappointed (like a Frankfurt). Lots of hens, bit tacky atmosphere. Staff were nice, drinks overpriced ($19 cocktails). Probably somewhere people go more to dance after dinner/entertainment than for the food per Se. Would not have paid full price.

We had a Wonderful night out last night at the Copacabana restaurant. The services was wonderful as well as all of the food. The four of us all loved getting up to dance and all the entertainment.

Terrible service, terrible food, terrible show and a total ripoff. The manager extorts customers of their money. How this business is still running is beyond me! Owner acts as if he is a columbian drug lord.. Avoid
Anisa Ornella
I would say that this place is good in terms of their entertainment, but i wouldn't recommed the food. We gave thumbs up for the service, just because we always got the meat that we asked for, so kudos to that!
Convivialsins
Haven't been here for a loooooooong while. It is for what it is. But don't come for food. Not worth it and you can get much better churrasco esk dining ... the service here is gd with attentive wait staff. The choices of meat and salad is basic. Only one steak strip! So we asked for the whole the haha. Way too salty though. <br/><br/>Venue is very runned down. Think kings cross strip clubs, crazy horse cinemas (Swanson st), the old fun factory (chapel st) and you're there! Oh the toilets were disgusting.

I wasn't impressed with this place at all. I felt like I'd stepped back into the 80s! The floor show was pretty hideous with sexist jokes that belong back in the 80s. The chargrilled meat had nice flavours but were cheap cuts. Chicken hearts, wings, pork sausage. I've had much better churrascaria. I didn't expect my lime and passion fruit mousse to be served in those stainless steel bowls with stands that I haven't seen used for years! I don't believe the night was worth $49 a head. With a bit of modernising though this place could be really good.
Foodandwinefan
Pricey for what's on offer, they must make a killing! Food was variably average. Spinning Pitbull does not count as South American beats. Would be ok for a group event if you were drunk enough to get into it.
Z For GoodFood
Interesting venue. Lots of salad choices... A bit pricy for the amount and quality of food served... But good entertainment from almost 10pm for one hour. The music can be rather loud depending on where you sit
Kimmy_desu
Had a spectacular evening here and thoroughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere and great service. The salads were quite varied and there's also a bit of hot food like garlic bread, fries, pumpkin and corn and fried rice. To be able to enjoy the meat, I think it's important to balance between the meat and salad, i.e. a bite of meat and a bite of salad, because the meat is very heavily marinated and very salty. They probably want people to keep ordering drinks. Advice is to stay away from fizzy beverages because you'll be full in no time (common sense I'd say). We both had quite a lot to eat and our favorites were the chicken drumsticks (juicy, tender succulent) and pork, followed by beef and lamb. Completely satisfied in the end and really wished we had the room for more! The service is really impeccable. We were constantly being taken care of and the bbq boy was really warm and chatty. Thumbs up!

These guys did the catering for our recent school fundraiser and it was fantastic, food was delicious, the room smelt amazing when we walked in and everyone enjoyed it. The entertainment polished it off - all round fantastic.

I had a great time at the Copacabana. The staff were friendly. I found the salad bar/buffet plentiful and very tasty. The young guy coming around with the meat ( chicken, beef, lamb and pork) returned several times to make sure we had plenty. The host was very friendly and asked if we had had enough to eat and please return to buffet as many times as we like. The desert was lovely. I chose the cream caramel (yum) the band was very good, and the singer excellent. The dancing/ floor show was a real treat and then we danced the night away. We had a thoroughly enjoyable night. Would recommended visiting "The Copa"

Couldn't be more thrilled with Copacabana International.  They just catered for our School fundraiser at St Kilda Town Hall.  Didi and Jennifer were a pleasure to deal with and put together a great menu that fed 350 hungry party goers.  Everyone raved about the food, served hot and plentiful and delicious.   This is the second time they have catered for me and I would highly recommend them. <br/><br/>They also organised fantastic samba girls, Capoiera Dancers, DJ and great live Latin Band.  Thank you so much Copacabana - you made it all so easy, lots of fun and our school is raving about the great canivale atmosphere.

Nice food. Eventually.. We went down to Copacabana to see a show which a friend of ours was in. The whole set up of getting assigned table seemed a little hectic, although once sat down someone came to take our drink order within a few mins - great ! I had a seen a few people queuing at the bar, and I'd rather be chatting with friends. About 20 mins later our drinks arrived (just bottles of beer + soft drinks), at which point that bar was empty, so could of just got a drink myself much quicker.<br/><br/>Then the buffet queue came and went - it seemed they were sending up a table at a time (sensible) but then never got notified what the deal was. Eventually we went on our own accord, as we wanted some food before the show started, and sat with our plates of quite tasty salad options, and waiting for the skewers of meat to come around....<br/><br/>... and waited. I think after an hour we'd had one bit of sausage, one mini chicken leg and one chicken wing bought around. My dining companions were hungry, so ended up filling up on the pasta and salad mostly. I was in the for the long game, as I love Brazillian style meat servings, but this also meant I was having lots of 10-15 min waits between eating the single chunk of meat and some accompanying salad. After 90 mins, the meat started to come a little more frequently - probably as most people had long since finished there meal, and finally I had what I would regard as a reasonable serving. But all in all this took two hours. and the dancing had started.<br/><br/>We arrived at 7pm, and left around 10:30pm - just as desserts were getting bought around. If you're happy with a meal spread over 3-4 hours, I guess that's fine, but with the huge gaps in service on the meat, most people seemed to just eat a lot of the salad buffet, which I guess is the idea (cheaper) ? All the service (food, drinks) was just slow - the staff seemed to work very hard, but I don't think they have enough people working on a night, which given the cost of tickets seems a bit stingy. All in all, a venue that knows how to ensure a good profit, no doubt, and the entertainment was pretty good, but as a dining experience, highly irritating and slow. Cannot recommend.

Yummy. Great food, Great atmosphere. Loads of fun. The only problem we had on our table was the oversupply of yummy food :) I was too full to keep going...
Moris_88
Great place to spend the night. Amazing fun for the whole family, has a great night life and very friendly staff, would recommend it to my friends and family for birthdays, anniversarys and bucks/hens night.
Danadino00
Bad food. Very untasted food, salad bar is very poor, they served the best quality of meat after everybody already enough. So we ( 8 ppl) arrived there by 8 pm , very hungry , they served hearts chicken wings and pork sausage , we ate all of these then they started to serve the good stuff ,, steak and lamb , didn't eat much of those cause we were already full, but the shaw was good

Hens night. Went here for a hens night. Girl dancers were great. Food was also nice, but the salad buffet is first and you nearly fill up on that before the delay in bringing meat to the table. Also, we were advised it was a 7.00 setting and then told no it was 7.30 check your emails. Didn't get any emails. The dj wasn't that great. We were told it was commercial top 40 and he played the nut bush and bus stop....... Arghhhhhhhhh.

Valentines day disaster!. We were absolutely disappointed, repeat -DISAPPOINTED! For many reasons, the meat guys served some tables and ignored ours until I actually had to call out and ask and when they served it was in shavings. I asked for more and he said "I think we can afford one more"... What? At $60 a head, are you serious? near the end of the dinner serving I was offered a generous portion of chicken hearts. . seriously guys you're a joke. Meanwhile I'm not a big guy that goes to demolish the food but one decent portion would have been nice. <br/>The buffet options were very low grade, and the food was extremely dull. I know this place isn't fine dining but you can tell they're cutting costs. The people working there were nice though. Note, the show from 11 was good.
Hasselhoff4000
Wack management. Wasn't too bad until bill time. Big security guard Cameron and told me to come with him to pay. Our table had already paid however, and after 5 mins of telling him this, he advised he would go check as off I was lying. Meanwhile everyone was staring at us like we were causing a scene. I went to complain to the manager and he totally brushed me off! It took the fabulous waitress to apologize to me and empathize about the situation. On top of this, they forgot our dessert! Other than the wack management and ridiculous payment system it was not too bad, but definitely won't be going back.

Don't waste your time. Booked Copacabana for a friends 23rd on their "Masquerade" night. My booking was for 23 people, 9 people did not show which I was told I will be charged $30 per head for the no shows, and $49 for the 14 that did show. that wasnt a problem. The problem was when it was time to fix up the bill the manager had put down 17 people showed up and that 7 were a no show. Really? Upon trying to explain him his mistake he rudely Interrupted and told me he counted himself how many were on my table. As if I didnt know who my friends were! As to avoid a heated argument and to ruin what was meant to be a fun evening I just paid what the manager thought I "owed"<br/><br/>Food was terrible, you cant see what you are eating. Everytime the waiters came around with meat I had to flick on my phones torch just to make sure it was meat! Show didnt start untill about 11pm and was average at best, the whole evening was just so disorganized that it was comical..<br/><br/>Will never return again, all of my friends felt the exact same. Avoid at all costs!
Mcnamee_jane
Worst service ever. Went for dinner with my hubby, they bring the meat to ithe table, but staff forgot to offer us while going around with the meat, they askd the table next to us but forget about our tablehow rude!!!!! Never go back there again. !!!
Tnestola
Crap, no service, hot and stuffy.. Ordinary food, finally when the reasonable quality meat came out it was really late and not much of it. We were seated in a back corner with no air circulation and it was hot and stuffy. Seating was cramped, could barely get in and out of seat. Btw I weight 73kgs. I'm not large. It was uncomfortable we didn't even watch the show. We left at 10:30.

Vzla. Went there for my daughters 21st on Halloween day , food was so yummi , deserts were absolutely delicious , dance show was wow !!!
Nancy Ficorilli
Night out !!. Came here years ago and was fantastic show , band and entertainment , was aked to come with friends again last night and sorry to say but shocking show and band and entertainment !! The food was shocking . Really disappointed. Really needs a boost of everything ! It's a shame to let this place go down hill as they could really get it going again like years ago so do something about it !!!
Bwwana
Top Night. Went there on Saturday for a friends 50th, after reading the reviews, I was not expecting much, however, I was pleasantly suprised, the salads were fresh and tasty, there was so much to choose from, the meat came out perfect and was plentiful, entertainment was fun. Everyone at our table had a great time. I would go back for sure.
Aiucha
It was lots of fun. I went there with a few friends to have dinner and enjoy the night. I loved the shows and the the drinks. I will definitely go back soon :)
Zericardo76
Amazing Brazilian experience!. Always I have a great time at Copacabana. They have a large variety of meat that just keep coming up. They also have a salad bar with fresh veggies and typical delicious Brazilian sides. Don't forget the dessert at the end, cream caramel is my favourite!<br/>Be careful to don't end up with stomach full because the dance floor is awaiting your Latin moves with live bands! Also you will love the capoeira and salsa show.<br/>This is the best place in Melbourne to experience the Brazilian atmosphere. You will not be disappointed!

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!. We went to celebrate my birthday. We had a amazing time, watching the show. Excelente food!!!!! I strongly recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Carlos
I've just been there and it was great. All you can eat barbecue was awesome.. Make sure you leave some room in your stomach for desert (I had cream caramel which is one of my top 3 favourite desserts).

Best bbq restaurant in town.. Perfect combination of food and entertainment, I had dinner with a group of friends last week and it was the best possible experience. Great service very good food.

We didn't like the food. We didn't like the show either. Too expensive, never again!

Couldn't wait to leave. I don't know where to even begin with how bad this place is. Firstly, the atmosphere and smell of the venue is gross, next we are seated crammed in between about 5 tables. Line up for buffet, selection of salads, rice etc. It was just OK, kind of quality you might expect at grade 6 school camp. <br/><br/>Well, I was forgiving to all these things because apparently there "specialty" is the meat. Dry, tough, fatty, cheap cuts of meat. Not that we got that much anyway as the waiter kept skipping our table, rather favoring to serve the drunk and loud hens group near us. <br/><br/>I have absolutely no idea how this place is in business, when we live in a city where we are spoiled for food choices.Huxtaburger, Jimmy grants, Jims Greek Tavern to mention just a few, are all within minutes of this place, with amazing food at half the price. The worst part is, the bad food, bad atmosphere, and awful service comes with a high price tag.<br/><br/>This truly has to be one of the WORST venues and worst dining experiences I have had in Melbourne.
S.J
Worst management ever! Went for a group function, got given the bill, paid the bill, had another waitress come back with a separate bill, for what I will never understand ,saying we needed to pay. Spent 45 mins of the night trying to sort it out with the very unhelpful, rude and arrogant 'manager' Mohammed/Romeo, or so he called himself, only to be sworn at and treated as though we were stupid for not understanding their ridiculous bill format. What topped it off was a couple at the register with us were also having the same argument about being overcharged! Reading all the reviews it seems this sort of thing occurs regularly, and is really disappointing that is allowed to continue and nothing seems to be getting done about it. I really hope people read these reviews and save themselves from an overpriced average meal with amateur performers and incompetent staff!
Monique Donia
I really enjoyed this place! Was a suprise for my birthday and I was so glad that this restaurant was chosen. Food was great and entertainment was lots of fun! Really happy with the experience
Jcarter1984
Horrible. Wanted a nice night out for my mums bday expecting a great night at the start the food was great meat and buffet. we never received our vegetarian meal as we requested when booking after asking three times still nothing after thats everything went down hill sat around for 45 mins before any sort of entertainment started quite boring... we the entertainment did start we were straight away given the bill.. they still tried to make us pay even though we never got the veg meal horrible manager aswell!!!! upside other staff were nice
Gakolak
Disappointment. I was looking forward to a wonderful evening ,well didn't happen ,food was ok but for the fact one of my guests was a vegetarian,i had requested A MEAL FOR HER it never came ,even though she was told it was on the way ,so she ate salad, show was annoying very loud, with 2 dancers i was thinking would be a hell of a lot better ,will never go back and would not recommend this place really spoiled my birthday
Max Hey
Horrible service. I don't think I have ever experienced such poorly mannered staff. It's too loud to have a conversation - which isn't always a bad thing, all part of the atmosphere I suppose. The layout of the place is not well structured at all. And to top it off they overcharged us and we are still waiting to have that fixed two and a half weeks on. If you want a good Brazilian BBQ experience - avoid this place. If I wasn't already an avid Brazilian BBQ fan this place would have tainted me view.
Natalia
Very poor show and food. It was a disappointment from very poor salad option(there was none of fresh leafy vegetables but soggy cucumber and tomatoes in balsamic) to very poor show with just ONE girl, host and One guy performed defence dance Capoeira!Thats it that's how they call SHOW.What a rip off!
Asian_Foodie715
Overcooked & Overpriced meat. There is really nothing special about South American BBQ- well this place makes it seem that way, anyway. I must say, I can cook better meats at home so I was quite disappointed to pay $70 for all-you-can-eat BBQ plus shows- was a big rip off! $70 I could buy quaility meats here and there and produce something amazing, and the shows were alright. The tango piece was good but all in all a bunch of amateurs all glammed up in costumes...
Williamboyle72
Shocking. I went here years ago and it was really great, good was good, atmosphere was good. now its really gone down hill, school camp food was better. They need to pick up their game, or pack up their business.
Shari Maree
Never again!!! We went as part of a large group for my work Christmas party. The food was awful...as someone else described it, 'canteen food'. And that's fine, but not when you've paid over $70 a head! By the time the meat came around we weren't even hungry anymore and I ate maybe 3 bite sized pieces? Even the meat, which is their specialty, was nothing special! The staff are hopeless. First we were told we had an open bar tab (which we did not). WE pointed that out to staff to be honest and do the right thing...we could have drank the bar dry! At the end of the night they brought a drinks bill to our table and caused a massive scene because ONE drink had not been paid for. They literally went up to every person at the table at least 3 times trying to make someone pay for an $8 drink. Could they not have just let it go? We'd already paid $75 to be there and only eaten about $10 worth of food! <br/>We enjoyed our night, but it was the company that made it worthwhile. The venue was dated, dingy and lacked atmosphere. The food was terrible value for money...actually just terrible! And the staff were incompetent and annoying. Would not recommend to ANYONE!

Really nice meal with friends. We went here last week with a big group of us and they really looked after us. The meal was lovely and everyone enjoyed it. The service was also great and the atmosphere was brilliant. We will be back again!

I had a really fun night! In saying that, the food was terrible (a mixture of soggy, overcooked and barely cooked options) and the place looked pretty out of date. Id only recommend going if it's with a big group for a bday & you're in the mood to have a rhumba.

Chewy, tough Meat. The BBQ meat was overcooked & cheap cuts of meat.<br/>Salads were great & fresh.<br/>Bar staff are rude & speak their own language while serving you.<br/>Entertainment was cheesy & poor, the same 2 guys and 2 girl dancers, however the guy who did martial arts was a great entertainer.

Terrible management. I went as a table of 5 people last Saturday night. We got charged for a bill twice and when we told management that we had already paid, the staff got extremely aggressive and threatened to call the police and would not let us leave. We even had the receipt to show we had paid and they would still not believe us! I would never return to this place again as they seem to try and overcharge people or pretend that you have not paid for bills. Would not recommend!

We went there last night. Much to our disappointment we were given the worst table/seats in the house imaginable. We decided to take dad there for laughs and to see the dancers but the only problem was we could not see the dancers from where we were sitting. To make matters worst we asked them several times if they could change our table, they kept saying we will a bit later on but they never did! Food was good and unlike what others have written the salads are delicious. They show was good also (from what we could see) but a real shame that management and the lady handling table arrangements was an absolute b$&@!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT. I celebrated my husbands bday over the weekend on SAT, and i got overcharged for 2 patrons who didnt even eat, even though they had on their books as 18 people, i got charged for 20 people on my table. they then said " someone didnt pay, and you should change your group of friends" which was so rude, as my friends are there for over 20 yrs and trust them with my life. horrible management, horrible food... and where are the other dancers.. only female dancers all night!!!! nothing compared to their clip on their website. <br/><br/>i wouldnt go back at all.. and will tell all my friends and family never ever to book anything in this restaurant... worst

I've been there a few times and i love it. The food is very good and i had so much fun with the show. I would recommend.

Good Night. Went to Copacabana last Friday it was a really good night, with good food and show.<br/>Thanks heaps for a lovely night!

I was there last Saturday night, and it was just fantastic. This place is just so different! I loved the fact that we can have dinner, dance and watch a beautiful show in one venue. I am definitely going back! :-)

Noisy, rushed and rude wait staff. On the plus side the food is fresh and plentiful. I would recommend this if you need to find a spot to accommodate 30+ rowdy people

Bain-Marie slop - just a few words that come to mind. Agree with all of the other bad reviews. Terrible service, food and venue. Couldn't even get served a drink to make the experience better, at a bar with 4 staff and NO other customers! 20 minutes of my life that I will never get back.

Not Great. Went here for a night out, party of 4.<br/><br/>Venue - dark and somewhat dreary, but all of the people inside celebrating with their chatter create a good social vibe.<br/><br/>Buffet - Just a selection of salads with some cous cous and pasta. Nothing special. The buffet does not have any meat, seafood or deserts.<br/><br/>Meat - I enjoyed the meat as it was brought around and we weren't short of servings. Can't speak for any other table, but we had enough.<br/><br/>Desert. Pick a desert from a menu (choice from about 4 or 5 selections..nothing spectacular..fruit salad, sliver of cake, and a few other)<br/><br/>Table Service: Exclusive of the meat service, the table service was extremely poor. We were shown to our table, but not explained how the night works, when to get the food, when the show starts, drink ordering and the like. We struggled for any drink service for a majority of the night, and had to go to the bar ourselves for the drinks..which was a chore in itself given how tightly packed tables were. It was very much - left to our own devices. The bill was provided to us by about 9:30pm and before the desert was brought out.<br/><br/>Show: Well, unfortunately we didn't stay to watch the show. This isn't because we didn't want to - but people were invited to dance on the floor prior to the show. We didn't know what time the show would start and as it was 10pm we asked a staff member when we could expect the show. We were told 11:30pm...that meant for 1.5 hours without any table service we would have to either watch others dance or get up and dance ourselves because the music was too loud to speak and hear anyone on the table. Now (as I have just found out), the program states that the show starts about 10:45pm so I am not sure if it actually did start then and we were told the wrong time. If it had been 10:45pm then we probably would have stayed around to watch it because we went to the venue for the show, but 1.5 hours was just too much....(although even 10:45pm is really late if one is not interested in dancing and wishes to converse which is made very difficult by the music loudness).<br/><br/>Overall: The service and time between dinner and show is the main let down. If one is attending as part of a massive group (hen's night, birthdays etc) then you will likely enjoy yourself with group dancing and therefore not worry too much about the time of the show, but as a small group out for a night I didn't enjoy the time delay. In my mind it would be much better to have the show performance while people are seated and eating, and then after the show open up the floor to dancing. As for the table service, for us it was poor - no explanation of the night and basically non existent for drinks during the night.

Entertainment made the night. I went there just last night, it was a little slow until the dancers came out, they were attractive, funny and entertaining. The food was good. The service was good. <br/>i would go again.

Never Buy a Voucher for Copa. A large group of us bought the last groupon deal for Copacabana and what a disappointment! We were treated like second class citizens, placed upstairs in a small function room with a dismal salad bar and no dessert bar (just had to pick one dessert!) There was a watered-down floor show with just a couple of performancers (who did try their best).<br/><br/>Then to rub salt into the wound, after the mediocre dinner, everyone from upstairs got thrown out and told to go downstairs to the main restaurant, but not given anywhere to sit or place your bags and coats!<br/><br/>Absolutely crap!! Call yourself a Brazilian restaurant? then play more samba/salsa type music, instead of current mindnumbing crappy music.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT .... I don't usually write reviews but I couldn't hold back this time. Copacabana is simple the worst restaurant I've been to in Melbourne. Dodgy food, Dodgy service and Dodgy atmosphere and guess what it is not cheap. <br/>The service was very slow, the meat was mostly fat and the salad bar was poor. My wife and I couldn't but cancel the deserts and get out even before the band started playing ... (0/10) totally UnRecommended ....

Disappointed. I organized a my work team to have a night out here, and when 3 of the 7 of us fell ill with Gastro, they were completely unwilling to change our booking, even though I had paid in full. In addition, I had to phone them repeatedly to confirm my booking in the first place, and when they finally returned my call, the night we originally wanted was booked. We had to settle for a different date. Very very poor service, and I would not recommend this to anyone who is booking a group outing.

Canteen food. Won't bother to spend a cent here [unless the was bill was on someone else]. a buffet style where the food presented at the bar were all appalling and miserable. and it tastes as bad as it looks.<br/><br/>great place for being silly, amused and entertained.

Mmm. From what I remember, having been here 2-3 times, their chargrilled meat skewers (Which are for giants!) were fantastic, didnt lack anything - Perfectly cooked, nicely marinted, you also would get seafood, beef/lamb, and a buffet area for your salad. Very nice, especially because of they amazing Live Latin Band & 45 min live show, consisting of 2 acts mixing up their shows, and doing a final piece in the end... :)

Easier to order a pizza and have it delivered to the wait line. By the time your done you will still be hungry. <br/><br/>I've been to restaurants all over the world and never had to wait this long for an average meal. <br/><br/>Torontonians. Get a grip.

Losing interest. I have been to Copacabana three times now. Twice was for birthday's and once for a hens night. The first time I went I thoroughly enjoyed it as it was definitely something different. I enjoyed the meat that came around to each table on the large skewers and I also enjoyed the salad buffet and of course the brazillian show. However the second time I came here, my friends and I waited around to almost midnight waiting for the Brazillian show to start only to be told that it wouldnt be on that night? I thought the show was included in the price that you pay per head so we were very annoyed about that. Basically we paid around $50 just for a buffet dinner and the buffet consisting of mainly salad and a little skewered meat that comes around to your table plus dessert. The third time I went which was for a hens night, I was thoroughly disappointed in the buffet dinner. Being pregnant at the time I was really looking forward to a good feed which I paid $56 for mind you (prices had gone up since the last time I had been there). I found this time that I hardly had any meat to eat? The skewers came around to our table twice but I was in the toilet the second time and missed it so all up I had a piece of chicken, piece of lamb, a tiny bit of sausage and a chicken wing. I ate a couple of bread rolls and had some salad from the buffet. I was then looking forward to dessert as I was still feeling quite hungry and that was definitely the biggest disaapointment. Im sure the portion sizes were half the size from the last time I had eaten there and it just didnt even touch the sides (I think I ordered the chocolate pudding). The brazillian show also hadnt changed in years and was exactly the same. I guess it was just getting a little old for me as I had seen it all before. Dont get me wrong, the dancing is amazing but they just do the exact same routine. Maybe they need to mix it up a little bit and change it around! I finally left there after the show was finished at around 12:30am and had to do a maccas run on the way home as I was still so hungry!!

Only go if you're invited to a birthday. I would only recommend coming here if you're invited as part of a celebration (ie. not on your own accord). For $49 you get dinner and a show. Dinner consists of self serve all you can eat salad bar with waiters coming round with various types of meat which they carve/serve to you, plus you get one choice of dessert. Sounds great except that salads are cheap and nasty :( We were seated at long tables so by the time the waiter got to our end he had run out of meat. Dessert was tiny. The show (Brazillian dancers, dancing demonstation for those having birthdays) is entertaining but once is enough, second time round the novelty inevitably wears off. If you are a birthday boy or girl prepare to be thoroughly embarrassed on stage. At the same time if you are in the audience it can be extremely funny to watch your friend! Place turns into a 'nightclub' after 11pm.. Overall, tacky. But clearly it is popular as it is very packed on Fri and Sat nights.

Nice churrasco, ok show, but beware of the group booking policy!. My wife and I visited for the first time last Friday, on the invite of an acquaintance who wanted to give his new girlfriend a taste of Brazil. We passed the invite along to several of our friends, hoping to introduce them to what is one of our favourite culinary experiences in Latin America, the Brazilian Churrascaria.<br/><br/>Food<br/>The unlimited salad bar was quite typical of what you would find in Brazil, with the addition of chips (with chicken salt), which is not common over there, but which I greatly enjoyed.<br/>The churrasco itself (a selection of BBQ meats brought to your table on a skewer and sliced onto your plate) was very good. It included sausage, chicken, pork, chicken-heart, and of course the picanha (steak) which was held back until last, but which was delicious. It is typical in Brazil for the restaurants to try and fill you up on the salad bar and cheaper cuts before bringing out the best, so you may want to hold yourself back a bit!<br/>The dessert selection was limited, as were the portions, but by that stage you don't have room left anyway. <br/><br/><br/>Service<br/>We found the service very good, our waitress spoke Portuguese and English (with a US accent) and was extremely pleasant and obliging.<br/><br/>Entertainment<br/>During the meal there was a Brasilian music video/film playing, and appearing on large screens around the venue, which was ok. In Brazil you would be more likely to have soccer matches on big TVs all around, I think I prefer the music!<br/>Then there was a live band, who played Carribean music. They were good, but not to my taste in music, I would have much preferred one of the Brazilian styles. Perhaps that varies from night to night, however.<br/>The floor show consisted of two girls and two guys, who came out in various costumes, announced as "all the way from Brazil", "all the way from Cuba", "all the way from Japan!", etc, and performed most energetically in various dance styles. They were young, fit, and pleasant to watch. I did think the Samba costumes were looking a bit old and unloved. Another young chap gave a demonstration of some "Capoeira" moves, including cartwheels, flips, head-spins and the like.<br/>As a taste of what Brazil holds, this was a reasonable show, but it doesn't hold a candle to the sights, sounds, and smells, the color, music and LIFE that you will find if you can ever get to visit Brazil itself!<br/><br/>Price<br/>Ok, here's where we ran into trouble. I have no problem with the $49 to cover meal and show, but in our case some of the guests were unable to attend. In fact they called to say that they were dressed and about to leave when the elderly diabetic mother accidentally took and overdose of her Insulin, and the hospital said they had to stay with her and monitor her condition in case she lapsed into a coma.<br/>At the Copacabana we explained why we were short on numbers when we arrived, and they said no problem. There were a lot of empty tables, and they were accepting people walking in off the street.<br/>However at the end of the night the chap who had done the booking said he had paid for himself and his girlfriend when he made the booking, and left the two of us with the bill - which turned out to be $284, as they charged for the four who couldn't make it, at $45/head!<br/><br/>The moral of this being, DON'T MAKE A GROUP BOOKING here! If going with a group, let each person or couple book individually, or you may end up with a rather large bill at the end of the night!

Dissappointed, Never again!. I have been twice to this restaurant, dissappointed the first time and gave it another chance a year later the second time only to be upset and dissappointed again. Be aware of the scam they use, where they bring around the cheap cuts of meat first such as sausages, chicken wings and hearts. They'll make you fill up on this and salad bar first before you are too full to eat the better cuts of meat as they'll leave this towards the end. Second time round, I would hold out waiting for the better cuts of meat to come such as beef. It was interesting how my friends at the table have finished their meals and were full by the time the beef came out. The waiter was annoyed with me when I raised concern of their cheap tactics. I been to these kind of resturants overseas particularly in Brazil and LA, so I know what value is.

Revolting. I cannot believe this place exists. Atmosphere was terrible, very run down and looked like something out of the late 80's. The entertainment was tacky and music too loud. As for the food- absolutely revolting. The salads looked and tasted like they had been there for a week and the rice was dry and had no flavour. As for the meat, well when we got a piece, and I mean that literally, it was very disappointing. The lamb was dry and fatty, as for the beef. There was no water on the tables and the women coming around trying to sell roses, and photos just made it feel tackier. For 60 dollars it's a big waste of time and money.

Not Value for $. For $50 you get an assortment of salads and minimal meat with a tiny dessert. Hardly worth your money. With $50 you can get a lovely banquet at a nicer restaurant like red spice road. <br/><br/>Also considering South America is a vibrant continent you'd expect the venue to be a bit more colourful, but instead it is old run down and dark. Pretty appalling really. <br/><br/>However, the entertainment was definitely the highlight of the night. It saves the restaurant from being the worst place to go to, but definitely not enough for me to be going there again.

$60 for a cheap all you can eat rice and cous cous and extremely salty pumpkin plus dry vegetables. The places is too squashed with no room to walk, waiters do not smile and keep constantly removing your cups without asking. The meat was nice but they unevenly distribute it around the tables so some people missed out. No lick on boys toilets so have fun holding the door while doing a number 2. The performance if you like too see cart wheels then you will like. This is a place where you need to be drunk to enjoy it

Not that great!. We were a party of 6 and got put in the back corner. What made the night a hungry night was the fact that all of the meat went to a table of four men next to us. The waiter seemed to forget that there was another table on the end, so we were left with only salad. The three pieces of meat we did receive were delicious although considering about 10 times as much went to the table next to us it was very disappointing for the $55 we paid. Also, we didn't really appreciate the security guard getting up in our face having a go at us for going outside for some fresh air.
