Review Lord Of The Fries - Fitzroy

Rose Rye
Ordered the Big Chickn and an Onion Rings Munch Box with shoestring fries. The fries were good, the onion ring serve was really small, and some of the onion rings themselves were small. The burger was pretty dry. The Chickn patties used to be so much better before they changed them to the crispy style

Real good fries, nice burgers, good vegan all day breakfast options. Nice and clean and good window seats for Brunswick Street people watching.

Came here on a whim, the chips are nice and not too oily. One row of seating inside and toilet out the back. Sauce is $1.50 extra or $3 for the deluxe sauce. Staff are friendly, and the place has vegan versions of the standard fast food restaurant

Portions sizes have been reduced. Over $7 for a mini burger that is literally one bite. Chips are always hard and undercooked. Shame because the menu itself is great. There are just way better vegan burger places available these days.

We often eat veggie burgers and going to a fast food chain, I lowered my expectations. But what was served here, can barely be labelled as good. Absolutely terrible. Made me become a meat lover straight away.
Natalie Szafranski
Burgers are shown as vegie beef burgers but chicken is not advertised as vegan so if you dont know, you're in for an unfortunate shock. Food was burnt and I feel that a place called lord of the fries should do fries well, not serve burnt in edible bits of blackness. Chicken is not advertised as vegan so new comers have no way of knowing that they will be served in edible unidentifiable bits of burnt something. Vegan food should not be pretend meat.

Used to come here back in the day. Was keen to have a feed, very disappointed in the quality. They have gone reallll down hill since I was last here a few years back, up your game lot of the fries Fitzroy!!!!
Vidya Leggett
My favourite LOTF location, staff are so chill and nice Chicken schnitzel & fish burgers are bomb 👌
Brian Turner
The staff are always lovely everytime I come here and the food is always fantastic. Always reliable for a late night feed 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

A vegan fast food chain that sells burgers, hotdogs, fries, onion rings and other fast food items.

I wanted to try the one of the hotdogs. I think I ordered the Chicago one. It was very messy and spicy. I was not satisfied was the quality as it was quite pricey for its size. The sausage was alright, but I didn’t really enjoyed it...

I came here for the first time ever a couple weeks ago, and I must say, great experience! I was skeptic about the food since I don’t like mock meats, but I had the phish burger and it was AMAZING! Everything else we ordered was perfect too!

Just a side note, we were served by Isha (I think that was her name) and she was fabulous. On her tea break she even made an effort to play with my 7M old son and make him laugh and smile at her.

I would 100% come back to this store based on this first time experience, thank you guys!

Probably my favourite of the LOFT chains. In fact, it was my first experience with a this vegan fast food concept. Vegan fried fish managed to fool my meat-eating dad that it was the real deal. Meanwhile, sweet potato chips or the nugget munch box (with Poutine sauce if I'm feeling decadent) are my go-to snacks.
Fike
Good vegan fast food with affordable price. They offer selections of burgers, pack of “chicken nuggets” and chips, all day breakfast, milkshakes and many more - and all vegan! How nice 😊
Vege Eats
Have been here a few times on a night out. Love that it’s all vegetarian. This time I had the hsp snack pack, was a bit too spicy for me but the fake beef tasted really good!

Update 05/2018:

You bloody legends, all day is now all day! Now can you please bring back the Toronto dog (with bacon, as it was originally).

Original:

Loving the breakfast menu but we need to clear up the definition of “all day breakfast”. I was recently made aware that the “all day breakfast” menu is only until 5pm. Given that you open at 11am, this leaves only 6 magnificent hours available to enjoy an egg and bacon muffin. I propose using the car headlight rules i.e. when the sun is out it’s still “Day”. Please consider extending your all day breakfast menu until 9pm (during daylight savings) and at least 6pm in the winter.

I haven’t tried the food from this particular lord of the fries but I recently ordered a chocolate milkshake from here. The milkshake looked fine however once I took a sip was soooooo ridiculously sweet to the point where I almost felt ill (and I’m a person who loves sweets). I actually had to throw it out after having a few sips. It also tasted fairly cheap, it reminded me of a very sweet version of those chocolate soy milk packets you find in the aisles in the grocery (and not in a good way). For the price ($7) I did expect a milkshake with much better quality and taste. Super disappointed 😔

As a vegetarian who's all about the animals and not doing it for my health, I'm so glad this restaurant exists. I'd order the fish burger again, but the overwhelming barbecue sauce gives a no to the HSP (or maybe it's meant to taste like that?).

After a few too many drinks we had an attack of the munchies...at 10pm a lot of the kitchen were closed so for the first time ever I stumbled into here.
I was quite suprised that my Original burger was full of flavour and so delicious however my onion rings was just fried breadcrumbs soaked in oil and not very enjoyable. But I am a new fan of the burgers and will be trying more of the menu!
Lord of the fries is always great, especially at this location. My fav is the African sauce on classic fries. Halal snack pack is also amazing. Also the nuggets and onion rings.
Edithmarina.rock
If your looking for some decent vegan grease this is it! 100 times tastier than McDonalds or any other fast food place I'd been to as a kid before going vegan. Even my chicken loving friend can't fault their nuggets and chik'n + bacon cheese parma! The burgers are juicy & Vietnamese sauce on point like a spicy yet sweet chilli mayo! The best ethical fast food chain in Australia. Chips are average- not great but not bad either & I love how you can choose between chunky, regular or sweet potato-all are decent & it's great having so many sauces/sides to chose from! Eager to try their 'phish n chips' which has been sold out every time I've been to date so must be really good!

Favourite food outlet for sure! I love the nuggets, the phish, and the chips with French Canadian sauce is to die for. Good amount of variety and perfect for those vegans that want to enjoy some fried takeaway.
Mrs Lavender
We were quite surprised that the hot dog are actually vegan! Not until we finished it lol , we though it's was a hot dog that were over cooked. Not too bad for a vegan meal, taste healthy . Friendly staff.
Food808
Trippy as when you know you aren't eating meat but it has the texture of meat.....
The nuggets are the best thing ever. Love the culture here. Delicious

As far as naughty vegan binge food goes, you can't really pass up Lord Of The Fries. The dudes at the Fitzroy store are super efficient, getting meals out quick.
Jess
Super excited to find a vegetarian restaurant, but was slightly underwhelmed by the food. The sweet potato fries, onion rings and 'chicken' burger were good, but I didn't like the nuggets or classic fries.

Lord of the Fries offer 100% vegetarian burgers that most definitely do not skimp on taste and flavour!

Whilst the Flinders St. Station location has no dine in options, the Brunswick St. and other locations do and this is why we opted for Brunswick St. to eat in with our kiddos on this instance.

We love that the boys can sit and play free retro arcade games while we wait to receive our food and with a joystick on each side of the console, it makes for happy sharing.

The menu is completely halal and vegetarian with vegan option for every meal (which you request whilst ordering). The menu board has halal signage and the certificate is kept behind the counter at each location.

There is a traditional menu including classics burger options like an Original - cheeseburger; to the Poutine - LOTF's award winning gravy, cheesy fries, fakin' bacon, veg beef patty, onions and garlic mayo; and Chick'n; all holding true to mimic, if not better, their non-vegetarian counterparts.

And then the beauty of Lord of the Fries is that they introduce limited edition burgers and sauces which change each month so you can choose a different burger rather than sticking to the done and dusted.

I tried the limited edition The Supreme burger which was the bomb dot com! A super food patty (hello mung beans!), topped with pickles, cheese, fried onion, lettuce, plus a sauce combo to blow your mind - mustard, spicy mayo and ketchup.

My husband demolished the very popular Halal Snack Pack - all plant based meat but 100% would fool the unassuming. It tasted exactly like shish kebab meat which this Turk has grown up with her whole life. That's saying a lot!

LOTF also have a dedicated kids menu with every burger available in a mini size perfect for little hands. The crispy chick'n nuggets are incredible dupes for the real deal and one that pleases little and big.

For a company that started out of a mobile chip van, I'd say LOTF has done incredibly well for themselves. Check them out, you won't be disappointed and you'll have your burger cravings completely satisfied!

Read more reviews at mmatcommunity.com

Ok so I've never really left a review, but upon ABSOLUTELY DEMOLISHING a HSP from LOTF Fitzroy, I feel I owe it to them.
Essentially, every-time I go to LOTF its one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth, BUT THIS... this was PHENOMENAL.

I would highly highly recommend a HSP, there was fresh crispy chippies, topped with delicious cruelty free beef, and then my personal highlight, the perfect amount and spreading of the sauces: aioli, bbq, and siracha? I died a little. Truly orgasmic!!

Thank you to the legends there, forever in my dreams, i will be back shortly :)
BrunchQueen
Absolutely love their menu! Everything was so delicious and full of flavour and the best part it's all vegan/vegetarian! The burger was juicy and tender and the sweet potato was crunchy. The sweet chilli Mayo was creamy yet dairy free.
Spirited Stardust
I ordered the snack box and vegan chicken Parma - I didn't finish either they just tasted sooooo greasy and fatty. If you like Maccas you would probably dig this but it just didn't taste like food to me - happy that there exists a vegan fast food for people who enjoy that kind of food it's just not for me
Hannah Mack
I had never tried or even acknowledged lord of the fries until tonight when my friends decided to go there for a quick dinner bite!

We ended up ordering a large shoestring fries loaded with cheese and gravy which we shared between the three of us.

Wow, we demolished this bad boy! The chips were so fresh, crispy and the perfect temperature and what's better than gravy and cheese on top of them!

It's a great switch up from your fast food restaurants/fish and chip shops! Definitely worth a try..

This Lord of the Fries is a small place in Brunswick st Fitzroy. I have seen this place in Brunswick st's all in day and then decided I wanted to visit. With Sally that is and my Entertainment book voucher of 2 for 1. You can buy the book from Meld Magazine. Here they have good sauces and chips. I really loved the Indian Masala- it was sweet and spicy and very addictive. It goes well with the sweet potato fries which is an extra $2. I also liked the Parisian sauce which worked much better with the classic chips. One of the ladies (their customer) was asking about the Indian Masala sauce. The bathrooms are out the back and they have this little weird thing where the sink is on top of the toilet. The flush in this case is rather confusing for some. We don't know whether we have turned off the tap.The sweet potato fries were a little bit too sweet at times but they were rightfully crunchy and a delight to eat.I cannot understand why people order water when you can bring your bottle and be thrifty this way. Water is about $3 or $4 here.Do come here for your chips if you don't want to go to the city. And do buy the book for $65 and you'll be supporting Meld Magazine and their work with International students

Good vegan grub and the service here was quite quick compared to some of their other franchises (Naturally, as the food is completely made to order, it will never be as quick as say McDonalds). Service here was quite pleasant.

Heard about the new phish burger (made vegan). and came right away. It was amazing. Apparently they use gardein fish which was cool to know. Unlike most of the other burgers which make you feel like you've eaten a cheeky fast food burger this one was quite light in a sense.
I got the African sauce (as opposed to the usual French Canadian) on my chips and it was also great!
Love lord of the fries when you're feeling like a vegan/vegetarian fast food hit!
Hugh Lambert
Not good. Was expecting a decent feed but instead received a half decent burger and some sub standard fries covered in a substance that was apparently garlic aioli.

My favorite fast food as a vegetarian :) love the sweet potato chips and burgers specially the chicken one . Friendly staff and great price .

I can never go past Lord of the Fries when I want a vegetarian junk food binge. Mmmmmmmmmmm spicy burger. Perfect hangover cure every time!

If you want something vegetarian/vegan just walk across the road to vegie bar, which is significantly better and around the same price. The burgers here are shit---not only the fake meat burgers, which I think don't need to exist, but the actual veggie burger itself, which one would think it not that hard to mess up, is bland.

Also the fries here are just woeful.
Rhys
Easy, comfort food for vegetarians. Nothing special and it's overly expensive but if you just need some vego grease it's fine. If you're looking for an actual dinner there's far better and well priced options. It really is the vego alternative to McDonald's, right down to the poor service.

The guy told us vital information about the local area. Was a wonderful time thank you blond tall guy

Change the name of your brand. From Lord of the fries to fries of the slaves.

Don't pretend your fries are chips. And don't pretend your chips are fried. I'd rather go coneheads.

There's meat in those burgers?. We had the LOTF original burger with sweet potato chips and regular chips. They no longer have chunky chips, despite them still being listed on the menu. The chips were fine but they were smothered in mayo and over salted. Why don't they serve the sauce on the side? At least they were edible.

The burgers however, were probably some of the worst I have ever had. They were congealed, claggy and inedible. They looked like cheap frozen patties bought in the frozen section of a dodgey supermarket and served in an equally non-descript, spongey white roll. It was difficult to determine if there was any meat in the 'patties' at all. All in all a disappointing experience.
Brigitte
The burgers are better at LOTF!!. I have been to most of the LOTF restaurants and I would have to say the fitzroy store is their flagship. The staff are much more friendly here and the food that little less oily than the other stores. The first time I ever took my family to this store, they did not realise that they were not eating meat burgers. Being a vege, with teenage boys who are not, this is a great compromise to get them to eat a meatless meal without them feeling they are missing out.
Paulie
Soggy fries that looked like they had been cooked hours earlier and zapped in the microwave before being served. Staff couldn't care less. Seriously rubbish place. Avoid.

Veggie Delight.. A bit pricey for fast food, but so worth it. The chips are the best and the range of sauces are delicious.
Peter Evans
Pretty average really was expecting more .

I'm not one to write reviews, this is actually my first!
Today I had the displeasure of eating lunch at the Brunswick St store; $15 for a burger deal I can handle but only if the quality is there. I liken both the burger and fries to something that come from the frozen section of the supermarket.
The burger patty was the poorest quality I have ever come across, it was difficult to associate it to meat. Fries were oily and somehow a mix of over and under cooked potato.. Total garbage, total ripp-off, thoroughly disappointed.

Best LOTF in Melb. Nicest owner ever. A favourite.
Jemma
A veggie favourite. The answer to any veggie/vegan's naughty takeaway prayers. Definitely expensive and often they scrimp on the sauce but oh, so worth it! Original burger, Tijuana hotdog and fries with Vietnamese sauce... perfection!
Toby
Fantastic vegan/vego junk food.
Fries were good and even the plain ketchup tasty. I had the chicago dog with soy bacon which was a pleasure and had the perfect amount of pickle and american mustard.
The hot dogs had a really authentic smokey flavour, if a little on the soft side.
Bring your meat eating friends here and see how long it takes them to realise it isn't actually meat.
Also, to those complaining about salt and fat content, its a diner style burger joint, of course there's heaps of salt and fat in it. That's exactly why you go here.
Honeylishuss
These fries are so much better than the hand cut fries I had in New York where they like to leave the skin on. We totally grossed out on Lord of the Fries three times in two days. Onion rings are funny little things but dipped in the gravy they are decent. Best vegetarian hot dog ever! I don't know how they make their dog but it's juicy and tender. I used to kind of be sad that I was missing the whole burger/ hot dog experience being a vego and feel like an idiot because I didn't know LotF was meatless. I'd walked past the Melbourne Central store lots of times. Now I feel saved. This is the best burger/dog experience ever. So good.
Darren C. Lau
Disgusting! And Delicious!. 20 minutes for a burger! Was it worth it? YES! Hits the spot. A burger isn't supposed to be pretty; it's a messy, greasy affair. Alternatives are... the burger joint next to the Souvlaki place further up on brunswick st, however there aren't any fake meat options.... hmmm
Vegesauras
AWFUL!!. Dreadful food that is disgusting and overpriced. the last time i ate this i wanted to induce vomitting just to get it out of me! two small burgers and one fries, 2 drinks to share was about $30. these are the equivalent of a McDonalds burger but vegan. i'd rather go hungry than eat this stuff.
Need To Eat
So I finally get the chance to try Lord of the fries. HORRIBLE! It's pretty much an average fish and chip shop with a cool name and branding. The fries were probably the worst fries I had ever tasted, but the burger was okay. Overall however the much anticipated visit to this business was a big disappointment. Staff not friendly and behind the counter looks very dirty and unorganised. Shame as I like the concept.
Janet Flamethrower
Has something changed?. I used to dig a LOTF burger but the last couple I have eaten made me feel a bit sick, way too oily and heavy on the salt. The chips were soggy and had a
not-changed-the-oil-in-awhile taste. What's happened?
Markyg76
Booth-tastic location. Really, really, really love the Brunswick St store. Décor is brilliant...sit down with your vegie / vegan burger and make sure you try their potato cakes! So many different menu items popping up & sauces to explore. Love their monthly printed newsletter. Open late!

Vegan Junk-food heaven. I turned vegan only a while ago and I had been CRAVING some KFC/HJ/MikkyD-style fast-food when my friend told me that Lord of the Fries is vegan (apart from the sauces). The burgers were DELICIOUS, the chips are the perfect combo of crunchy and soft! I'm just waiting for an opportunity to try the chicken nuggets. I was so pleased with the food and the fact that I have the option for this sort of vegan fast food I have been raving about them since!
Sure, it's not all that healthy, but it's hell of a lot better than Mcdonalds.
Kikideex
Burgers here are awesome when you're craving a junk food fix. Vegan cheese is never a good choice, LOTF's is no exception. Chips are okay.
Ali Abbass
Don't bother. Go to Grill'd instead. Healthier and tastier.
R Holland
Lord of the Fries. Mmmm chippies...with vegan mayo! Also highly recommend the very creamy chocolate mousse :D
Boilinghotfrog
Way way better than Maccas or Hungry Jacks. Love their burgers. Fries are great. It's my go to place when I'm feeling like burger & chips minus the trans fats.
Dinnerate
Great Food and Price. Really good burgers - excellent - thanks.

Fries were really tasty but a little too salty.

Great business concept with good quality.
Catfish
Stick to the fries. Had heard about this place but forgot it was vegetarian.Ordered chicken nuggets and some fries , the nuggets tasted weird but the fries were very good.Next time i will just stick to the fries.
Karsaki
Unpleasant experience. Took my kids here one the weekend cuz they wanted to try their fries. I've heard positive reviews about this franchise and decided to drop by for some fries! Guess what? maybe I was that "victim of the day" and had extremely salty fries, I had no idea how much salt u would need to get it like that! Anyway, probably won't be going again.

p.s. waited 20 minutes for my order to get out!
Ambee
Always a winner!

Definately try this.. Lol at jpftb's review. I think another fast food franchise might be more suited to your tastes.
Lord of the Fries serve excellent food, i love the options of sauces and the variety of the menu.
The chick'n nuggets and burgers (vegetarian) are excellent.
Great for a late night snack when out and about in Fitzroy, highly recommended.
And no i dont think they use bacon.
The World Loves Melbourne
Having sampled Lord of the Fries burger Parma, which consists of LOTF Chick'n Patty, bacon rashers, napoli sauce, cheese and onion - I can say this is up with the best in Melbourne. It's a great burger which ever way you look at it. It has great flavour, great napoli sauce and great combination of ingredients. The bun is excellent and totally fresh - which is really important.
Ashley
I think it's great what Lord of the Fries aims to do and I think generally, they've done a good job with the food, to fill in such a tricky little niche.
