Review Sushi Oh Oo - Five Dock

Amazing Japanese restaurant. Food is fresh. Service is quick. So many superb selections. I ordered the eel bento and everything in the “box” was excellent. It was my first time and it definitely did not disappoint.

Quality food. A little on the pricey side but wouldn't stop me from coming back!

One of the best sushi in the district Reasonable price, high food quality Busy business, however, surprising efficiency My personal preference for the nigiri is to order "no sauce" to keep the original taste of the wagyu/sashimi Both recommended for dine in or takeaway

The portions are generous and sushi is fresh. Store is very small so it can feel a bit cramped. Great for a casual meal.

This is a cute little local joint that does some traditional Japanese food and some fusion dishes too. The staff a nice but the service is somewhat inefficient at times, especially when they are busy. The restaurant is very open, so.it can get cool of a night. They have blankets for people sitting outside or near the door. In regards to the food, the teriyaki salmon is glorious! Absolutely get it! The best value is with the Bento Box. These are massive. You'll be able to feed two people easily with one meal. The have alcohol sales on premises and you can get Japanese beer. They also have happy hour specials for students most afternoons. It's also quite reasonably priced for the area. The decor is a bit lacking and the bathroom situation needs work, bit if you're in it for the food then you'll be happy.

Very fresh fish considering a wide variety we got for the large size mixed sashimi & sushi (pretty good value at $32), cut well for both sashimi and sushi. Rolls are ok tasting ($8), although a bit messily put together. Overall. Great neighbourhood joint for fresh Japanese.

The food is so yummy! Great varieties of sushi made to order, will definitely come back!

Food is always fresh and delicious. Food generally comes out pretty quick! It’s our go to place for inner west fresh sushi and sashimi and it’s well priced too
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Lured in by a mate’s photo of foie gras-dusted nigiri sushi, I recently checked out the curiously named Sushi Oh-Oo. You’ll find the modest, galley-like restaurant in Five Dock. The intimate restaurant is fronted by a small enclave of outdoor, curbside tables separated from Great North Road by a screen, and an orderly row of chairs for customers awaiting takeaway. There’s certainly no space for them inside!Despite the tiny footprint, effort has been made to create an inviting space using natural materials. The kitchen is encased in wood and paper screens. Overhead there’s a dark bamboo ceiling and down one side, a textural stucco feature wall with leaves inset into the plaster that reminds me of a bamboo forest. Hanging ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) flags add a splash of bright colour to the otherwise neutrally toned room. Staff use little stools to retrieve dishes over the high sushi counter that is decorated with fish scale tiles. While sushi is what I’m here to eat, I note that the illustrated menu also...

Staff were attentive and food came out fast. Everything was fresh, great portions and the rainbow roll was really yum. Only thing is that their sushi has a lot of rice packed into it.

The BEST sushi in the inner west!! Have been coming to this place for 10+ years and the quality has never changed! The wild rice sushi rolls are always so delicious. Also love their bento boxes and teriyaki meals. Definitely go for the bento box if you are super hungry they are huge. Fresh sushi and good value for money.

I would recommend this place to a friend so Check it out if your in the area you will be pleasantly surprised
Excellent atmosphere, great healthy food for take away and eat ins. Get treated well by the waitresses and chefs every time. Foods always top quality and fresh. At Sushi Oh-Oo 3 times a week at a minimum.

Neighbourhood gem! Fresh sashimi and yummy Japanese food. So happy to finally find a decent Japanese place close by! The only downside is that there’s limited seating and the alcohol is a bit pricey

This little restaurant sits about 20 people and is always busy.
Love the variety on their menu and the food is good quality at a decent price.

The first time we dined here we ordered a large sashimi, large salmon roll, and a pork katsu bento. The bento is probably one of the nicest I've seen in a long time. Great portion size, presented nicely and the katsu was juicy. They cut their sashimi quite thick which is always a plus. It was fresh, tasty and so visually appealing. We shouldn't have ordered the large salmon roll because we were already so full. But it's pretty cheap ($6) for the size that comes out.

The second time we dined here the prawn tempura large roll wasn't as nice as we expected it to be, and the curry lacked a little sauce. But overall the sashimi and silken tofu salad made up for those areas.
It's not to say that the curry wasn't yummy, the chicken was fried really well, was still juicy inside and the curry was very flavorful, it's just that after a few spoonfuls of rice, we had no curry left to coat our chicken.

There are still quite a few items on this menu that I'm excited to try. Cant wait for the next visit
❤️
Such great value for money!! Everything was absolutely delicious and food came out quickly

Staff were attentive and welcoming
Looking forward to coming back!

Enjoyed the food here tonight. Everything was prepared fresh and the tempura came out amazing with good variety.
Look forward to trying more dishes here and returning for sushi. Yum.

I'm a regular here and with good reason. The taste and flavors of Japan are on point. Ingredients are always fresh and well priced the wasabi has a good kick to it here also.
I normally don't like udon noodles but they are are cooked well and have a good texture.
The lotus chips are a must if you ever pop here. Almost always it's full too and can be expected to wait for a seat. But so worth the wait you won't be disappointed.

Everything is amazing!! One of my favorite places to dine at least once a fortnight. Good job guys! Definitely try the teriyaki salmon, the udon, the sushi, the tempura and the list just goes on and on ✔️✔️

I never ate sushi/sashimi/nigiri before I came here. Now, I eat sushi on a weekly basis and I ONLY get my sushi from here. No words can describe how much I love this place. A bit pricey but worth every single cent!

Been here multiple times and never impressed, so this will be my last visit. My main problem is that the food is not fresh and they skimp out on things. The sashimi is old and cut too thickly, especially the tuna so I just couldn't eat it I felt sick. The soft shell crab roll had crab stick in it...so disappointing! It had a small amount of soft shell crab and then the rest of the roll was just filled up with crab stick... The pork Katsu udon was old and the flavour lacking. You could tell the pork katsu was not freshly cooked as it was room temperature, had a greyish tinge to the outside and was not crispy. The dumpling wrapper of the steamed gyoza was still hard at the top like it hadn't been properly cooked. Grilled salmon ngiri was the only pleasant thing to eat. To be honest I just feel sick after eating all that. Regret.

Sushi Oh-Oo.. a small restaurant almost like a hole in the wall, has very friendly staff and very good food at a very low cost amounting to excellent value for money.

Their sashimi is what makes me want to come back time and time again as it never fails to satisfy. Their Udon is also quite good and same goes for their sushi set as well.

Would definitely recommend this place!

Completely walked past this small joint but not surprising as it’s pretty easy to miss. Once you walk inside, you notice how narrow it is with a handful of tables all on one side. There are a couple more tables outside which were needed even on a Tuesday night. However, if you are lucky enough to live in the area you can opt for takeaway which seemed to be a popular choice as the takeaway line was constant. All good signs that this was to be an enjoyable meal.

With plenty to choose from, deciding was a slightly slow process but we ordered the medium sushi and sashimi, udon, and one of the recommended dishes – the rainbow roll. When the plates came out it was a delight for the eyes! Presentation was so on point and it was just so pretty. I don’t think the photos do them any justice.

But ultimately what’s important is the taste, and yes there was no disappointment in this department either. I particularly loved the sushi and sashimi plate just for how fresh everything was. Although I did find the kingfish a little hard to chew. Minor fault. Entering with a massive sushi craving, Sushi Oh-Oo did a good job at satisfying, or if you flip it around I could have been enjoying everything far too much because of my deep desire for it. Either way, happy chappy.

Udon was standard but that by no means is a negative, and was a great accompaniment to everything else. To be honest though, as much as I did enjoy the rainbow roll, not sure if it deserving to be one of two recommended dishes. I mean, it was tasty without a doubt, but I’ve had rainbow rolls at other places of similar quality. Perhaps it was the overpowering fried prawn in the middle, as I’m not the biggest fan of fried food. But if you are, ignore this, you’ll probably love it!

What is also another HUGE plus for Sushi Oh-oo is because of their good pricing. It’s not too crazy, or not crazy at all depending on how you see it, and they pump out tasty, fresh food so they definitely deserve a big thumbs up in this aspect.

Sushi Oh-Oo is one of the best Japanese restaurants you will find in the Inner-West. We ordered the 35 piece sashimi which was great value for $40. Service as also very good. Highly recommended.

What a great little restaurant in Five Dock. I went here after reading a few reviews. Bit of a neighbourhood gem I think. The service here is so friendly and welcoming. I had Teriyaki Chicken Temaki (Sushi Hand Rolls), Chicken Katsu U-don, and Fried Bean Curd (Inari) Nigiri. All the food was full of flavour and really tasty. I especially enjoyed the Temaki. The restaurant is small so can get busy but since I arrived there quite late there was a table free. Please note that they are cash only but the prices are very reasonable so the bill isn't that expensive.

Sushi Oh-Oo never fails to amaze me! My usual is the cooked tuna and avocado medium rolls with purple rice. The rice is always so fresh that it comes out warm!

My favourite go-to sushi restaurant that it so quick on service and always fresh. However, it is pretty hard to get a table in peak times, but the staff are very friendly and accomodating and try to do the best they can! It is only a tiny restaurant so this is understandable.

Will come back again and again :)

Been here a couple of times whenever I'm around Five Dock. Each time around, I end up really satisfied with the service and food that gets served in this place. Looking around the place, it seems that the locals have the same opinion as me. I had the tempura don & the chicken karaage this time around...filled me up quite nicely :) No brainer that I'll be back again next time!

Decent sushi is hard to find in the burbs, and for that Sushi Oh-Oo gets an extra half a star - just. The deep fried shrimps (not on the website menu) were great, and deserved a cold beer to go with them. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their sushi given the unassuming location of this restaurant, but we might have asked for too much by ordering the beef tataki which was not exactly a beef tataki. Overall good, but not great.

I don't actually know what it is about their sushi rolls, but the wild rice rolls are ridiculously tasty. I am more than happy to drive to Five Dock to pick these up, and do so at least once a week. The rolls are fresh and the overall quality of the ingredients is on point every time - so much so that I actually haven't even had a chance to try anything else on the menu because I can't get past the sushi rolls!

Fresh sashimi in generous portion. plenty of choices on the menu and if you know how to mix&match items on the menu you can get really good deals for a highly competitive price.

Probably the best Japanese Restaurant in Five Dock. Excellent presentation of food and restaurant has a very welcoming interior. Unfortunately a little bit pricey, however nevertheless suits a special occasion. Delicious food overall...never had a problem!

Fresh, quick and delicious. My go to spot for sushi in the inner west

I'm a local and have probably eaten here (no exaggeration) over 50 times. i can't place my finger on why the sushi here is so delicious... i think its a combination of the super fresh fish and the tasty sushi rice but it's honestly one of the best sushi places i've ever been to. value for money is 10/10 too - $6 will buy you a substantial sushi roll with generous amounts of ingredients. try the wild rice - i think it imparts more flavour than the normal rice! will keep coming back for as long as they are open!

Good food & value. Very very small restaurant but good food

Fantastic. All-around fabulous place. Amazing food (vegie teriyaki highly recommended, and the edamame bowl should do 2-3 people for entree), great service and terrific feel - cosy and warm yet thoroughly modern, fresh and vibe-y.
