Review Aangan Indian Restaurant - Footscray

Shuman
There is areason we keep going back to this place for Indian food even though we are on the other side of Melbourne. Its one of the best. The chowmein(Indo Chinese) could have been less oily. Biriyani rightly spiced. Papri chaat hit the mark The food was ready in a few minutes. Although short staffed there was no complain about the service.

Really good food, great service. I enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Things are made more simpler as you order and pay online on the table.

Worst food ever we had with Aangan. We ordered chicken fried rice and we got Veg fried rice served. Then they took everything back when we asked and just added some chicken pieces to the same rice before. We knew it because it was cold already. The quantity was very low for $17 charge. We ordered Malai chicken tikka, which is a starter and we received in the end after all the food. We had a bone in the chicken which should not be. We know it is short staffed, but the bone in the chicken is not at all acceptable. Will not recommend to anyone. It will be our last visit to this place.

We came from ballarat on Christmas day and thought of having some good food in Melbourne while returning to ballarat but we really had horrible experience with Aangan Restaurant, Footscray. First of all, we got the food after almost 50 mins. We have ordered butternaan and chicken curry and chicken fried rice. I'm into hospitality industry since 2016 but I never seen this kind of worst butternaans and never had in my life, literally It was like Maida, when I asked staff about the quality, they said this is what they give. Coming to chicken curry's, we have ordered Butter chicken Tikka masala and Chicken madras. I don't feel that was fresh and feels like they kept in freezer and later sauted when we ordered, feels like rotten. Coming to Chicken Fried Rice(17$), Rice is not fresh, it's like dried while eating and we hardly got 4-5 very small chicken pieces in that, it's like more veg fried rice because of carrots and spring onion in that. Later we got upset with stomach and left food in the middle after spending 100+$ to eat this rotten food, later shown it to the lady Manager there but she was convincing with her reasons like every restaurant does. I don't know how these people running restaurant with this quality and taste. I never recommend to anyone in near future and visit again after all this horrible experience 🙏 I don't recommend anyone too. I don't appreciate your efforts in making us to convince in the end after leaving food in the middle...🙂 I would have much appreciated if you have focused on making and providing tasty & quality food to customers instead of making excuses and giving your reasons which no one wants for 100$. This is our honest feedback what we had experienced at Aangan Restaurant and shared with manager too but later she tried to convince us with giving biryani before leaving Ballarat.

I’ve loved coming to Aangan for years. Always great good and always friendly service. Tonight I made a takeaway order of a mix of curries, naans, sides and biryani. I was told there would be a 20-25 minute wait which was ok as good things come to those who wait. Unfortunately 40 minutes later and the takeaway wasn’t ready. It is ok - I understand that Sunday nights are busy and hospitality is hard at the moment with staff shortages. I was excited to have my meal at home when I opened to find the biryani was lamb biryani and not vegetable like I ordered. It seemed like the staff were juggling far too many orders and 8 or so delivery drivers who were all standing around waiting for orders as well. The food is tasty however I ended up having to cook rice for the vegetarian in the household.

A good place near Melbourne in Footscray. Great Indian taste. Decent ambience. Service was good. Do try manchurian and friend rice, Garlic naan Paneer.

Very much disappointed with the service and food. barely I could search for any chicken is there in my fried rice. Just they throw lot of veggies instead of that. Its my humble question for them how could you charge 17$ for chicken less chicken fried rice. Most interesting thing here is I should wait for 45 minutes to get my food and again wait for 5 minutes to get a spoon after I received my food, it is the most disgusting thing with their service. I hope a lot better before I went to the restaurant, and I walk out with a strong opinion that I never wish to go there again. Can't recommend to anyone. Think twice before going there. Charging much and serving less and poor quality . Don't waste your money with the name you heard online. You can found lot of better options near by the same location. 👎

On point, quick nicely prepped and served. Customer service massively improved since our last visit. Happy with overall experience. Other branches of Aangan need to follow this branch.

There are many indian restaurants in Melbourne but this one is the king of all.Go and enjoy you will not regret.

Ordered a serve of Lamb Korma for $21 and this was what I got. A small rectangle container with 6 piece of lamb. The dish didn’t look good and lacked of taste.

food great, service ok, meal sequence... unfortunately they've got no idea. booked in for 4 adults, 2 kids. waitress stated that kids meals would come first...1 did. 1 came out a lot later. not knowing the portion size we asked for enough jeera rice for 4 adults... we got 4 lots of jeera rice... something lost in translation? 😂 got dal makhani, their signature dish, 2nd last & in a very hot to touch bowl with the wait person leaving it right on the edge of the table. finally got a serve of plain basmati that was to go with 1 of the kids meals last. hilarious! we'd forgotten about it. it wasn't much use at the end of the meal. honestly if it wasn't for the food i wouldn't go back.

Yum! Of course the naan has to be the most delicious dinner part of the meal. The tandoori chicken also stood out for me.

We have been coming here for the last 1.5 years. Amazed how well they have maintained their food quality and service. Never ever has there been an unhappy dinner at all. We ALWAYS go home happy and looking forward to the next time.

Place was just too crammed maybe maximising no. of tables to earn more $$..we ordered munchow soup and cream of tomato soup which, both were just too horrible to drink. Come on who puts peas in munchow soup and tomato soup was just basically liquified tomato curry. Ordered veg Schezwan fried rice but was given Chicken Schezwan fried rice. Only good point were the naans - herb & cheese naan and garlic & cheese naan and Balti Paneer. Overall it’s just too pricey..there are other Indian places as well which are good.. never again to their West Footscray branch. this was our first and the very last time there. Aangan at Derrimut was better..

Terrible taste. I took this sabzi for takeaway. The quantity was very less and taste was terrible. Have been to the restaurant multiple times for dine in nland take away but the taste was never bad. This time it was extremely pathetic.
Angela Nguyen
Take away box of butter chicken very small for the price of $15. The portions used to be huge with enough to make you decently full. Now the take away boxes have halved in size and have 8 small pieces of chicken swimming in sauce. We ran out of curry for the naan whereas it was the opposite in the past.
Thats My Food
This is one of the best Indian restaurants that I have eaten in Melbourne. The taste is very authentic, the variety is good, the quantity served is generous, the service is brilliant and the food looks gorgeous. All of these positives put this restaurant on top of my list. I had heard that this place is really good to try Indian food so I decided to drive to the opposite side of the city to try out this place and I am really happy that I did. The vibe of this place is very nice.

Food was great! Packed full of flavour!
Good portion size for pricing.
Floor staff were lovely friendly helpful and attentive.
Highly recommended :)

ordered:
butter chicken $15.5 - very good !! it has the perfect balance of salt and cream and chicken melts in your mouth

butter roti - amazing !!

service: friendly and helpful for sure

Aangan Footscray is by far better than another branch, Clayton and Cranbourne is a big and utter disappointment right from food and service. Used to enjoy the drive to footscray to eat at Aangan but that too has changed it was much better before. Will try again and hope it is better next time until then will stick to our local restaurants Shanikas and Arya which never disappoint
Shakir Mohaseen
We had a reservation and we were taken to our table immediately. We ordered our food pretty fast. One masala puri, chicken tikka, lamb biryani, peas pulao and methi malai mutter.

Even though it was pretty crowded as it was Diwali night, the food was served pretty fast. The chicken tikka was cooked to perfection. The masala puri was more like dahi puri. The quantity of the lamb biryani was just right and it was good. But it wasn't amazing. The peas pulao and methi malai mutter was a really good combination. Will go there again for decent food and good service.
Paul Zeleke
they gave me a fake fried rice and I hate them go to dosa hut everyday aangan stole dosa huts roti and they bought it in bulk this is why I don’t like Aangan it is the worst
Ajay CM
Great tasting NorthIndian food, especially the starters, tandoori items and lassis.
Negatives: Service could be bad and staff is rude sometimes. They will turn you back if you arrive half an hour before their closing time (Then why not change the closing time?).
Ishan Bhanu Roy
Chef has definitely changed as the food taste horrible. We have some good memories of this place all washed away today. Very disappointed

Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ambiance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Value: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My favourite local Indian restaurant. Fantastic Pani Puri and Tandoori Chicken. The curries here are nice, but the garlic naan can sometimes be a tad oily. Great service on selected occasions. Good portion sizes for the price.
Melbournemilktea
Food tastes really good, atmosphere was busy and good place to have dinner with friends. Loved their Samosa chaat and butter chicken. Would come back here again in the future.
THE HUNGRY CAT
I've been coming here for years and the food is always great! Aangans butter chicken is the best I've ever had! Perfectly cooked rice and great Naan. Friendly service, food comes out quick, great spot! MEOW!

I placed a vegetarian takeaway order and they served chicken.Later I realised and asked to remake. They made me wait for 15 mins and didn’t apologise at all. Poor customer service!!
Improve your game guys!!
Tania
The food was amazing! We got a few platters, this was best to try a bit of everything. Dosa is a must try. The fish in the curry was soft and not over cooked. Wash everything down with a mangi lassi. For 4 people, it was not expensive at all and because they are such large servings, there was 3 boxes to take away afterwards. Would recommend !

We walked in when dinner service was in full swing. We got a table quickly even though we didn’t have a reservation. We ordered and the food came quickly thereafter. We ordered pani puri, tikki chaat, dal mukhani, Puran Singh chicken and naans. Pani puri was crispy, the Chickpea and onion filling were well seasoned and resam was nice and tangy! Appetising way to begin the meal. Tikki chaat: potato cakes soft and fluffy. The chaat sauce was luxurious and just an amazing contrasts of flavours. Dal mukhani: delicately smoky and absolutely comforting. Puran Singh chicken: tender chicken bathed in the most flavourful curry. Absolute flavour town! The naans were soft and fresh. The perfect vehicle to mop up all the yummy goodness! Yes to going back. (Hope they’ll have a bit more seating space though.)

This is my favorite Indian restaurant. We've tried most of the restaurants in the area and Aangaan is the one we keep coming back to. Food is definitely the most enjoyable and flavorable.

You won't be disappointed, your stomach will be happy ... take it from me. I would totally recommend the place to others, as it has a WOW factor.

We arrived on a Friday night (16/8/19) and the restaurant was quickly packed. We ordered Masala Puri, Tandoori Chicken, and Goan Fish Curry with naan. The puri was ok, the Tandoori chicken was average, but the Goan fish curry was the worst I have ever experienced. It was mostly sauce and what was there was skin - there was little if any flesh! On a positive note - the naan was good. To finish an Indian meal I like a good chai, and we had been told when ordering that chai was available, and we requested it at the end of our meal. After the Goan Curry we were looking forward to a nice chai, but were told at the end of out meal that chai is not made this late - it was only 730! I was so unimpressed that I will really struggle to return to give Aangan a second chance.
Spice Up Your Life
we did a sneaky Take-away dessert from here of kulfi and gulab Jamun for a late night sweet snack - was perfect! The right amount of sweetness and serve was plenty. Will come to try out the rest of the food

Seriously good Indian.
Hands down the best masala puri and vindaloo ever. Butter chicken is also rich and creamy, perfect with them soft crispy naan bread.

Was at Aangan Clayton.
Terrible service. Was there with a small group of friends. I waited for 50 minutes and still did not get my order. No one from serving staff bothered us sitting for 50 mins w/o food. Apparently it is impossible to fill our tummy on a glass of water. Frustrated, we had to leave and even then no one from serving staff bothered.

I would prefer to sleep without food rather than go there and face this terrible service again.

Ramya Paraman
Probably one of the best places to Indian in Melbourne. Staff was so so sweet and kind, suggested us to try their dessert. Place was full house on Thursday. Nice dishes and served hot. Impressed.
Tasteforyourbuds
Got take away from here maybe a few times. It was good and consistent. However the price is pretty expensive compared to other Indian places.

Busiest Indian Restaurant that you’ll ever come across. Authentic Indian food with exquisite taste.
Aagan never disappoints!

Food: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Ambiance: 3/5

We loved 😍
Amongst a street full of Indian restaurants, we would say Aangan is probably the most consistent. We have been coming here for a number of years and although the restaurant has gone through a number of renovations (potentially management), the food remained on point! The masala chaat was delicious! We have tried the majority of the curries on the menu but would say that the butter chicken and vindaloo would be our favourite. The butter chicken was more tomato-y that other places which gave it an extra tangy-ness which we really enjoyed. Paired with a side of saffron rice and garlic naan, you can’t go wrong!
For those who can’t handle their spices as well, order a mango lassi to ease your tongue!
For dessert - try the sizzling brownie! We didn’t manage to get a picture of it on my latest visit.

We disliked 😖
When the inside area gets too busy, you may be asked to sit in the back outside around which was not ideal.

We always crave for Indian food in winter, just the perfect kinda winter warmer. Aangan is a familiar indian restaurant to most of us and they have been around for almost 15 years now. It is my go to for near flawless indian food. They are open in 4 locations, and they do have an Aangan Express in Hawthorn which makes it easy for takeway.
We had the madras curry, lamb rogan josh and butter chicken with garlic and cheese naan and it was amazing. The menu gives you a taste of India from your chaats, to briyani and Dosa. I must say good Indian food is hard to find, i guess i have just found my favourite go to for an Indian food fix.
The rumour is true! The food is soo good, best Indian restaurant I have tried so far. Full of flavours ! Went back in like two days ! Waiting time is abit long though

This place lives up to everyone’s expectations!! The food is so flavoursome here and AMAZING! Definitely recommend the garlic cheese naan and butter chicken! Mind blowing combo!! Would come back to try other traditional Indian food and the service is lovely

Simple and delicious. I had the pleasure of having a meal with friends and trying 4 vegan curry and saffron rice. The curry was well balanced in flavours an aroma, not too oily, also nice size portion. Rice well cooked with also a funky look. The saffron was mix trough properly. I will definitely go back.

Great entrees and mains. Got the onion bhaji and chaats. Dal curry, eggplant curry and butter chicken. Amazing flavours, love how creamy it is. Great service

When I asked my Indian friends for good recommendation of Indian restaurant, most of them mentioned Aangan, especially their first ever shop which located in West Footscray.

Two of my Indian friends and I gave it a visit on the weekends. They were really busy although their shop located at quiet street. Four mouth watering dishes were ordered between four of us.

Chicken 65. Until today I still don't know why it called 65 but I know is a yummy spicy sauce. Imagine the well deep fried battered chicken pieces coated with their homemade 65 sauce. Em... The great combination of aromatic spice and hot chilli. Em...

The grilled Tandoori Chicken! Or some people called it The King of Kebab Love the burnt taste on the that gave all the spices some great flavour push. Incredibly the chicken wasn't dry after grilled! Is phenomenal and authentic! Don't forget to dip your chicken in the Indian yoghurt before sending it into your mouth.

Spicy Prawn Masala! Battered king prawns tossed with spicy dry Masala curry! It was spicy hot! But good balance in spices. While the spice attacking your taste buds, the crunchy battered prawn will keep seducing you! Really hard to resist for the next piece.

Goat dum briyani. I love goat/lamb, especially when it is well flavoured. Aangan's goat in this dish was definitely flavourful and moist. Love the aromatic and fragrant basmati rice that liberally littered with spices.

Finally we washed all the spices down with rich, yummy and creamy mango lassi! Didn't want my mouth and throat keep burning while driving home.

Ambiance was good and service was good. No wonder this branch is claimed as icon of Indian restaurant in Melbourne by the local Indian community!
We went for lunch on 16th March and the food was horrible everything was salty , smelly and mushrooms were burnt . We gave our feedback to the staff and he told us even they found the mushroom to be salty and my question is why don’t you check the quality of food before sending it out to the guests. Water glasses were dirty and we had to get up and go to the counter for every order we made Never going back !!
Anne
First time here, food amazing and full of flavour, I also love that they do proper spice!

We went on a Sunday night and it was packed, I’d recommend always having a booking as even though we did, we still had to wait for our table.

Service and staff were good.
Justin
Wanted to go here for so long. Ordered the seekh kebab and a few curries, straight away I felt something wasn't right. Had to go straight to the toilet after eating the seekh kebab. Do not recommend ordering the seekh kebab as who knows how long it had been sitting outside before being cooked.

I have bookmarked Aangan on Zomato awhile ago as one of the Indian restaurants to try in the future. So when an Indian colleague recommended this restaurant recently, I decided to book for dinner on Saturday night. I made booking through Zomato just a few hours before dinner and get instant confirmation for 2 people. I chose 6:45 PM as the next seating available online was 8:45 PM which was a little late for dinner. Barkly st where the restaurant was located was very quiet and you can easily find free off street parking. The entrance of the restaurant was through a glass door on the far left and you have to walk through a narrow corridor to enter the restaurant. The restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. The dining tables are too close to each other and there wasn't much room to walk. Aangan has a quite a wide range of food and beverage menu. We ordered the Dal Makhani (Indian vegetarian dish that contains urad beans, simmered in a smooth sauce sauteed with tomatoes, onion and spices)which is Aangan Signature Dish, butter chicken, garlic naan, butter naan lacchewala , mix fruit lassi and mango lassi. Their signature dish was quite underwhelming for what it was and a tad pricey for a different version of dhal. The butter chicken was creamy and tasty however lacking the smokiness flavour of tandoor chicken. Mango lassi was good and whilst the mix fruit lassi was different, it was too thick in texture with bits of fruits and nuts. Overall, it was an average experience for me.

Came here on a Wednesday evening. Wasn't too busy and service was relatively quick. We ordered the Mango Lassi, Garlic Naan X 2, Cheese Naan, Butter Chicken Curry and the Fish Curry (for 2).
The mango lassi was so delicious, and we enjoyed both naan flavours. Can't go wrong!
Both curries were also yummy and flavourful, with the chicken and fish cooked perfectly tenderly. Will definitely be returning for another meal soon!

Amazing Indian food. The good part is the consistency in taste.
Tawa paneer is all time favourite. Entree platters were really good.
Keep it up guys. Thanks.
Nitesh
So let's start with what's good. The naan was great, the flavour and blend of spices are really good in all their food items but considering that we were the first customers and the were only about five or ten customers at the time, there was no excuse to serve us food that was not hot. We ordered half a portion of seekh kebabs which had good flavour but not hot, you could tell that the kebabs were previously cooked and reheated upon request. This could be determined by the dribblets of fat which is normally present in lamb mince. We also ordered a Punjabi kofta which was overly salty that it was hard to eat.

Awesome food. Great Indian flavours. Loved everything I ordered. Great service from staff considering how busy the restaurant was. I would love to go again and again.
Little Picky Very Hungry
First review of 2019 woohoo!! 🎇 We came to this famous Indian restaurant to celebrate the new year’s eve and it was the right decision!! 😋👍🏽✨ This is by far the best Indian restaurant we had in Melbourne 🇮🇳🧡
.
We started with the MASALA PURI🥠🥠, hollow balls were amazing, stuffed with a spicy mixture of chickpeas, potatoes and filled with tamarind and mint sauce) crispy & flavorful. TANDOORI CHICKEN 🐔was too good to resist so we got half of it, you can tell it’s barbecued in the charcoal tandoor, nice and tender😋 flavoured with yogurt and spices.
.
For the main, we had the classic BUTTER CHICKEN Succulent chicken with aromatic spices and rich velvety texture and creamy flavour. Went extremely well with the garlic naan. LAMB VINDALOO 🌶🐑 was probably my favourite, we ordered it as hot, it wasn’t as spicy as I expected but it does have a spicy kick 🔥🔥 A right amount of spices, very appetizing. I was surprised with generous servings of BASMATI RICE🍚 GARLIC NAAN was decent, tasted a lot of like garlic bread.
.
MANGO LASSI was lovely, ROSE LASSI not so much 😥🌹, quite watery. Staff were friendly and attentive. I would def come back for more!!
Melissa
I understand why some people say this is the best indian in Melbourne now, it was an absolutely phenomenal meal.

We ordered (to share among 4):
- Tandoori chicken (half) - really tasty chicken (and not dry like other places) with that tandoor oven taste, with a brilliant dip/sauce to go with it
- Fish curry - a must-order, the fish was so beautifully melt in the mouth and the curry was perfectly balanced
- Lamb rogan josh - better than other rogan joshs I've had, and the lamb was super tender too
- Chicken dum briyani - the chicken was very moist and rice was flavourful, but probably not as good as the curries
- Naan (plain and garlic) and basmati rice - you can't go wrong with naan

In terms of service, everything was great and there were constant water refills for those of us that couldn't handle the spice. We didn't have a booking but arrived right when it opened at 5.30, so I would definitely recommend booking a seat because it gets busy quite quickly.
The only thing we didn't like was the choice of music - it was very noisy - but other than that, 5/5.
Finding.happiness.in.food
2nd time there and it didn't disappoint. We visited on NYE and although we didn't have a booking, we were seated fairly quickly. My only feedback is that the platter in the pics would have been better in a curry rather than dry on its own. The waitress didn't know how to express herself clearly.. After we ordered the platter, the waitress said 'curry?', we said No, we want the platter, no other dishes thinking that's what she meant. She didn't bother explaining further. We thought the chicken on the platter would come in curries. Overall delicious food but could could have been better. We will come back again!

Really hard to fault this place. Reasonable servings of great Indian food at reasonable prices. Tandoor Chicken was great but the star was that Butter Chicken. Naan and Garlic Naan just and Lamb dish was also very good. Service was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.
Teja
The food was alright but the service was terrible. We booked a table for 5 at 7:30pm, however even though we had reserved a table we were made to wait over 20minutes. And when we finally got a table we were seated at a table that only sat 4 people. The fifth person has to sit on a chair in the aisle near the entrance when there was not enough room. Everytime someone walked passed they knocked into the person in the aisle and it was not a pleasant experience at all. There was lots of people trying to squeeze past as it was the entrance and staff were trying to get in and out. We were not happy. If there was no room and tables available due to the dinner rush they should not have made the reservation and told us upfront that there was no capacity, that way we could have gone somewhere else or come another day. Very disappointing.
Priya
Visited this place on a Christmas eve with my friends but ultimately that turned out to be an experience that i would suggest no one to go to this place. We arrived at 8:30 pm and finally got the table at 9 pm. After waiting for almost two hours we didn't even get the starters( which was just a manchow soup), obviously there were no traces of main course. Finally we left the place without having dinner. An advice to Aagan "Please respect other people time, do tell the customers about the waiting time so that they can decide and chose other options rather than keep them starving for hours"

A great restaurant serving authentic Indian dishes. I have tried their Kadhai chicken, Garlic & Butter naan and Chicken Biryani. All were too good. I highly recommend their chicken biryani.

I was here for a family getogether to celebrate my brother’’s b’day.. We chose after reading other reviews from Zomato. It’s a nice place with beautiful ambience except that it was little cramped couldn’t park my pram of my newborn. We started with non veg platter for starter. Meat was well seasoned and cooked to perfection provided with dips and bread. Lip smacking. Next we went on with chicken & goat biriyani. Not a south Indian type but cooked perfectly to suit Aussie tastebuds. Can’t forget to mention the juicy kadai chicken with Indian bread. I finished my lunch with pista kulfi. Friendly well mannered staffs. If you want to try Indian cuisine this place should be it.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: had really high hopes for this place but it wasn’t the greatest Indian I’ve had in Melbourne.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: the curry was a generous serve - had good flavours and the meats were soft. The garlic naan was probably the stand out - flavoursome and everything a naan should be.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: for some reason we ordered the fried noodles just to try and it was very disappointing. The so called saffron rice was just white rice with a bit of saffron.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: this place is very local but I wouldn’t say I’d travel all the way just for this.
Dine&market
Despite a rocky start to our evening, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Aangan. The food was delicious with plenty of flavours! The polite lady who we believe might have been the manager or supervisor provided some great recommendations for our entrees. The chicken tikka and the mango lassi were winners! We would recommend coming to visit Aangan but only if you can secure a table indoors.

Loved the atmosphere here. This restaurant has a dine in area and another completely different setting on the back of the restaurant. It is like a small tent, almost makes you feel like you are back in india, having food in a pandal (tent). The food was tasty.
We had chilly paneer, butter naan, dal makhani and sahi paneer.
The food was tasty, nothing special. The ambiance and staff was friendly, that made the whole experience out of the world.
I’ve been here many a time. But over the past few months, I’ve opted for home delivery as I’ve been caring for my family during a time of need.

The first couple of times, a missing naan, a 40 minute late delivery or a mixed up chicken curry was forgivable. However last week I ordered my usual garlic naan, butter chicken and samosa chaat, upon the 23 minute late delivery I opened the bag in front of the driver and proved yet again another mistake.

My butter chicken was mixed up with some other curry that the driver said I had ordered, a Rogan josh. I told the driver this is not what I’ve ordered and told him to call up the store and rectify the situation. He said he was unable to at the time as he had another delisvery and said he will talk to them when he gets back. I called and told them and they told me they’d fix up the issue and that I’d have to go online and re order even and they’ll comp the bill. I had no reason to reorder as I was speaking to the apparent manager. I placed my order over the phone and 70 minutes later it arrived.

I waited 3 hours to eat my dinner that was cold by the time I’d eaten it and also managed to find a piece of foil in my curry.

Not happy! Fix your mess or you will lose more!

My 3rd time to this restaurant resulted in an upset stomach the next day like all the previous times! The food is so expensive, our dishes were dripping in oil and the taste was average.
No more trying this place anymore.

First time visited here on weekend. Very impressed service and all the staff are great! Kid enjoyed face painting!!!!Food are all good , slightly expensive compared to other Indian restaurants but big portion of curry and rice. this is the one of the best restaurant. Will be back for sure!
The Honest Glutton
Always packed out. Make sure to make a reservation first if you plan to go during peak dinner times. The great thing is, they’re open till 10.30pm most nights and cater greatly for take away as well. My guilty pleasure? Take away butter chicken on a weekday night. And they always get it right. I love this place.

Must try - Rogan Josh & butter chicken
Garlic Naan on the side! And a refreshing Mango Lassi on the side.
A shame that the prices have increased here as it used to be considered fairly priced, I guess due to popularity, their dishes are more expensive now

After having a long weekend of moving house we wanted to relax and have some good food. Found out about aangan which is close to where we live so went there. It is a busy restaurant but the staff and food are great. The butter chicken is one of the best we have every had in Australia and would have that again. The tandoori chicken is great as well

I really wanted to try this place for quite sometime as it is famous among Indians in Melbourne. So after a long hours journey, We Zeroed down to “Aangan”. We ordered Chicken tandoori, Corn soup and veg manchurian in starters. Chicken tandoori and veg manchurian was good but the soup was really bad. For the main course, we tried lamb rogan josh, kadai chicken and mind it “as mentioned spicy “ with butter naan. I was surprised with the curries, the taste was pathetic with no sense of spices added. Caution-please do not try Butter Naan! Not worth of $$ spent.

Make sure you try the tandoori chicken! It’s phenomenal! Actually most of the chicken dishes there were delicious but the Tandoori took the crown!
We ordered the platter , yellow dhal, biriyani, chilli chicken and dosa. The dhal and the naan were delicious however they were very oily and so were most of the other dishes which led to us feeling a little queasy afterwards.
Venue isn’t anything special and the service requires so hand waving to get attention .
Food is very reasonably priced for the quality. I would probably rate this my favorite Indian restaurant in Melbourne 👌🏼

Always love the great flavours from Aangan. Curries are always rich and full of flavour! Absolutely love the garlic naan too. Every time I’ve been, service has always been great. Local gem!

I cannot believe I’ve been a Melbournian for such so many years and not attended for my audience with Aangan!
Fabulous place, cannot wait to make my way through that entire menu of delicious Indian dishes! For tasters we had the best tandoori chicken I’ve yet had in Melbourne, the House signature Dhal Makhani , palak paneer, and some lamb korma! Accompanied by absolutely amazing naan of the plain and garlic varieties 🤤

Obviously with mango lassi to wash it down 🤷🏻‍♂️

Living Life unapologetically, moving into Aangan for foreseeable future etc. xoxo

Great food. Excellent recommendations by the staff. Highly recommend trying their fish dishes, which were cooked to perfection. Don’t come for the atmosphere, come for the food

What makes a restaurant good other then food is hospitality and good staff.. Not only good Indian food but a welcoming staff. Order all bunch of food from fish amritsari to sev puri. Would love to see some local Indian cuisine from across India.

Very good food. The Dal Makhani could of done with being more spicy, but still very enjoyable. The goat was very good. Garlic naan was very good. The tandoori platter was also very good.

Tried fish amritsari and dahi puri in starters both were good and tasty.
In main course ordered dal makhni, paneer masala , butter chicken and breads. Dal makhni was the best out of three, it went well with lacha prantha.
Had Pista kulfi in the desert, it was the best of the dishes ordered and a must try.
Overall a good experience :)

I don't often get take outs from restaurants that have a good ratings as a good portion of these reviews should take into account the venue, staff, and so forth. From the food we ordered this was delicious and from what I have heard, authentic. Perhaps I am accostumed to the "western" touch some Indian restaurants have adopted, however, it is still quite a good and well prepared meal.

Im usually a little weary of restaurants or chains in multiple locations. BUT.....holy crap was this place good.!!!!!. Goat RJ was the best. Delicious. Had Xmas dinner there and everyone LOVED it. Fantastic, wish there was one in Brissy

This is my favourite indian I’ve found in Melbourne. I have also tried the restaurants sibling venue in Deer Park, but find the food at this one just a nudge better. Good naan bread, which is always a bit of a decider for me. Have been a few times now and never disappoints.

The food was decent, but overpriced considering the small portions. I can’t really understand why this restaurant has rave reviews — I’ve heard the food is a bit of a mixed bag here and maybe I was unlucky with my dish. The meals are a little too expensive though.

Would definitely keep coming back! Everything we had was delicious and we didn't have to wait long before the food came out. Definitely recommend getting the tikki chatt, beef vindaloo and the butter chicken #delicious!

Delicious place ! Very decent food, the butter chicken was delicious dipped with nann bread. I really enjoy the dosa as well and their mango lassi is very refreshing! First time here and will definitely come back for more!

One of the best indian food you can get in Melbourne. I've been here several times and their curries are just amazing. Not expensive and worth every dollar. I particularly recommend the butter chicken. I try to go often whenever I have the chance. Absolutely recommended.

No doubt the food is great. Absolutely no doubt. But, there is a but. Decore and atmosphere make it really challenging to truly enjoy the experience. Service is OK. Prices have definitely gone up. We just can’t get excited about going to eat at this place, which is a real shame, because if they invested a bit in making the place more hospitable, we would be going very often to enjoy their delicious food!

@Shikha Sharma we had a great time together there and absolutely loved the food. Everything was yum and loved the golgappas and naan along with dal and Paneer.

Probably one of the best Indian restaurants in Melbourne, great taste and fast service. Too much wait time for a table though, but it’s definitely worth the wait. Staff are super friendly. Highly recommend

We (used to) come to Aangan relatively frequently and last night we visited after about a month after being overseas. We were shocked to see a significant increase in price - ie. samosa chaat was $8.50 now $12.50, roti was $2 now $3, chicken tikka butter masala now $19 (can't remember what it was before).. I understand that restaurants need to increase their prices as costs increase but some items have gone up by 50%! Aangan is very inconsistent in terms of quality and this didn't bother us so much before because the pricing matched what you got (and 80% of the time it was good - sometimes it is amazing and others you feel disappointed). Unfortunately due to the hefty price increases Aangan will no longer be a go to for us - I think the consistency & quality needs to improve to justify the price hike. We are looking elsewhere to get our Indian fix. Very sad as we have solely frequented Aangan for the last 10 years.

well... well... well...This place is famous, and is quoted to me many times being the best Indian food in all of Melbourne.I have friends who travel from the South East to come eat here.Situated in Little India also known as Barkley Street, West Footscray - this place is a stand out among the rest of the restaurants mostly serving Southern Indian (indo-chinese).
What i like about this restaurant is that you can have indo chinese but also a 'proper' curry that we westerners are used to - rogan josh, butter chicken etc that you don't get at other places serving only chaat, dosa and biryani. The price of some of the items on the menu are exorbitant to say the least when you get can $1 dosa down the street.
The food has always been good. Someone what inconsistent at times. Our meal last night consisted of thinner naan than what i remember and the lamb in our rogan josh wasn't as tender as it normally is.
Service is nothing stand out. For the first time ever we were seated inside. The outside dining area really makes it feel you are in a makeshift backyard restaurant.

Definitely recommend trying this place if you haven't though.

Best indian food I’ve ever eat so far. Trying so many vegan food here, which is healthier for me caused I normally eat meat and stuff. Taste sooo new and refreshing for me.

I dont eat much Indian foods usually. However overall, i was pretty happy with it. We had take aways of 6 different curries (sorry i cant remember all the names...because it was a party). Butter chicken which is usually mu favourite dish was okay. Not bad, but i have had better. My favourite that night was this fish curry. All the dishes were very tasty other than the green spinach and cheese curry that was bland. One of the dish is eggplant curry but there was hardly eggplant in it, there were plenty of onion though. All my friends agreed that these dishes are rather quite salty. I would rate it 3.5 but since i cant do .5, then i give it a generous 4.
Little Bit Of Everything
Aangan is one of the best indian restaurant in town. Authentic flavours and one stop whee you wont be disappointed by ordering Indo-Chinese food. Great service and the food is served with perfect timing.
We ordered Malai Chicken Tikka, Chilli Paneer, Garlic Prawns, Lamb Chops, Garlic naan, Butter naan, Aloo Paratha, Chicken Fried rice and Chilli Chicken.

There chat plates are pretty good too.

Amazing place in case you miss Indian food. West Footscray branch is undoubtedly the best one amongst all. Chicken 65 and Chandigarh Butter Chicken being my favourite picks.

I like the pioneer in the curry and I enjoyed the food there. Nice place to go with a group of friends. Food there was quite feeding and I was really full after that meal.

decent Indian fare at an acceptable price point. ambiance is okay, service hit or miss. the management should be aware that the joint is in Australia and charging Australian rates, customer service standards should be applied accordingly.
would return for the food though.
