Came here on a Sunday and whilst busy we managed to get a table straight away. Ordered the corn fritters and coconut eggs. Both dishes were great, coconut eggs in particular was very well balanced and super tasty, roti was a little too crispy for my liking but apart from that was a delicious dish. Coffees and fresh OJ were all up to par for a top Cafe. Service was prompt and friendly, look forward to coming back and trying more of the fairly extensive menu.

I found this nice cafe by chance, and had nice food. The volume is a bit small, but the taste was amazing. Had Maple Waffle and Brunch Bowl.

I went to West 48 for breakfast and ordered the Mushroom Stack. The background music, unique military-style cutlery holder and dog-friendliness created a great ambience to come into. They have a great menu, which made it hard to choose a dish, but the Mushroom Stack was more than I expected. A generous portion and a nice mix of flavours that made a delicious combination!

A great place for breakfast if youā€™re in the area. We arrived when it was busy and we sat outside for awhile before we could be moved inside, in winter. The staff are kind and welcoming.

Will definitely be coming back here! Coffee is good, the Oreo milkshake was amazing. And the food was incredible! Absolutely loved the vegetarian shakshuka and samvar coconut eggs especially! The staff are friendly and chatty, and the vibe of the place is lovely. Favourite Cafe in Melbourne so far!

Great local place to eat if you're from the inner West. Delicious selection of food and drink. We expected serving size to be bigger but we didn't leave hungry. Can be busy on the weekends so recommend booking a table, especially if you're bringing your dog for an outdoor seat.

My new favourite cafe! Best food, best staff, best vibes. Iā€™ve been here pretty much every day for the last week.

Great coffee, delicious food and friendly staff who have helped make West48 a great part of our neighborhood

Best coffee in the West!!!

When a visitor to Melbourne says, ā€˜coffee?ā€™ the only response can be, ā€˜where?ā€™ And when my Sydney-sider friend was stuck in Melbourne over lock-down, the choice was West 48. I admit I had been here before, it was another friendā€™s favourite cafĆ© for years, but it had been years, since I had visited so that I recognised the layout before the name.

Our local cafe, great coffee and food :)

Hidden gem in Footscray serving delicious brunch dishes and excellent coffee. It helps that the service is also friendly. Mac and cheese was excellent and still light to eat despite having 3 kinds of cheeses. The corn fritters are not overly oily and paired nicely with the smoked salmon.
Jasmine Cassis
Waited an over an hour for food that never came because they missed our order. Not exactly how you want to spend a Sunday morning. Waitress was apologetic and made our initial coffees on the house but I expected better service than what was received.

Beautiful coffee, nice friendly service and good food, that pretty much sums up West 48.

We went there at about 10:15am and could either wait for a table or sit outside. It was cold but sunny, so we chose to sit out. It was great because they got blankets

Hubby ordered the burger šŸ” and I got the hotcakes šŸ„ž. The kiddies got the most healthy option, which is the brunch bowl w chicken (could choose between chicken, smoked salmon or tofu)

The hotcakes was delightful, although I wasnā€™t 100% sold on the berries that came with it. It tasted like frozen berries.

The waiter knew I was getting the brunch bowl for kiddies and smartly checked whether we wanted to omit the wasabi. Good move! The kids loved their brunch bowl w fried chicken tenderloins, edamame beans, seaweed, avocado šŸ„‘, Mayo and rice.

Our tummies full and caffeine cravings satisfied, we drove back home for a relaxing Sunday nap.

This place actually deserves 0 with its level of customer service. The staff are really entitled here. If you arenā€™t happy to serve people then really maybe this isnā€™t the job for you? The staff act like theyā€™re better then the people that give them money and pay their wages to keep the cage going. Honestly I had high hopes. The cafe itself is really nice with good coffee and food, it stops there.

Had the crumbed chicken with slaw and fries for lunch which was fine. A little disappointed that a seemingly supermarket grade chicken schnitzel was served on a plate with shoe string fries, nice fancy coleslaw and a smear of kewpie mayonnaise - where was the wasabi...? Pretty basic and not fancy chicken schnitzel and chips that I could have made at home or got from the pub. Maybe better to stick with the breakfast and brunch dishes instead :(

Been here a few times now with big enough gaps in between to forget how disappointing it was each time. The latest trip involved an eggs Benny with undercooked potato hash and overcooked poached eggs, while my partner had a tiny serving of oil soaked corn fritters. Took a long time to take our orders and an even longer time for our food to come. Granted it's the weekend and there's a line out the door, but when you watch the couple who ordered after you on your shared table get their food before you it kind of ruins the mood.

Definitely one of the places to go to in the western suburbans, great vibe, wasnā€™t a let down every time I go there, havenā€™t tried everything on the menu but I will definitely try it all

Wasnā€™t sure what to expect as this was our first time brunching in Footscray with the baby.

Service was friendly and accommodating. Loved that the outdoor seating had a water cooler spray, much needed for hot days. And baby was happily sleeping in the cool mist too.

Food was also lovely and filling. Our fav was the brunch bowl with crispy chicken. The corn fritters with smoked salmon was delicious as well.

Overall, a stellar brunch experience ā¤ļø

One of the west of Melbourneā€™s go to brunch spots. In a bustling area of Maribynong & Footscray, it provides a spot for the locals to enjoy and excellent brunch with something on the menu for everyone

We had the lamb curry, weirdly you can only order it after 12. We went there at 1145, so we could not order it when we order at 1155. the waitress was lovely and hold our order for us. The service was great and the coffee was lovely too.

Amazing place and great coffee! Found on Zomato, the reviews lived up to the product. Packed when I got there, fantastic staff and great experience. Will be back

Looking at the menu before our arrival, I was really excited to have brunch here. Local, highly rated and a unique menu serving breakfast all day and some lunch specials.

Food: we ordered the eggs benedict and pulled beef brisket, Vietnamese ice coffee and a cappuccino. The coffee was quite good, rich strong and dark blend. Worked really nicely as an Vietnamese ice coffee! Both dishes didnā€™t come with bread and instead had hash browns! A little bit rich but you can always order some bread like we did. The beef brisket wasnā€™t tender and fall a part but had a good punch of flavours.

Service: we experienced some poor customer service where we were ignored for quite a while at the front even though multiple staff members walked past us and not until the barista asked someone to tend to us did we get a seat (the store wasnā€™t busy) and we were treated like a burden when we tried to get a certain waiterā€™s attention as he said heā€™d ā€œhave it up to hear *rolling eyes and making hand signals that heā€™s annoyed* and cannot deal with this right now.ā€ This was after he was really happily chatting to his coworker 1 second earlier and pushed another waitress at us to have her tend to us. When we went to pay no one asked us how our meal was or said thanks but when another couple walked in they were immediately, happily and enthusiastically greeted. I actually messaged the cafe on Facebook about this because I didnā€™t want to post a ā€œmeanā€ review and they told me all feed back is welcomed and didnā€™t seem to care about my experience so I should post this review here, I never really got an explanation as to what may have happened for us to be treated this way but I assure you I was never be rude to anyone in hospitality as I am a retail worker myself and understand the circumstances. Quite disappointing. Wasnā€™t welcoming at all.

3.5Ā
Consistency is sometimes hard in hospitality, however West 48 seems to be able to deliver.Ā
Having visited quite a number of times over the last couple of years, we find that the service and food draws us back despite there being numerous alternatives.Ā
The only negative is street parking - not easy.
Ruth Cathcart
More a 4.5. Loved this place. Unsuspecting little cafe off the main stretch of Footscray. Staff were friendly and the food was SO GOOD. A couple of different options that steer away from the usual. Good use of space. Nice coffee. Would come back here ā˜ŗļø

Not going to lie, little man with the clipboard seriously needs a holiday.. or at least a job where he can write and read names off a list without losing his tiny mind. Bad experience because of him this weekend. Was relating it to friends, and at least 2 couples we know refuse to go there because of him.
Shame cos it's our local, but with excellent cafes in Footscray, we're not missing out. West48, this guy is a liability, and you're losing your mid week locals to other cafes because this tiny guy is freaking out and being rude to customers. He's not the right fit for the job. He's mentioned in all your negative reviews.

Rating: 3.5
We had always wanted to try out this brunch spot in the West. We were seated with very friendly staff who checked on us a few times throughout our experience.

We ordered the chilli egg scramble which was spicy but I enjoyed it alongside the chorizo.

I really enjoyed the mac n cheese which had an egg to top it off and a toast inside to give it a bit of texture.

My friend ordered the corn fritters with smoked salmon which was very filling. The smoked salmon complimented the feta cheese.
We ordered a bowl of fries to share with our group of friends, in which we could not finish between a group of 5.

The coffee is good as always like most cafes.
Everything was very filling and worth its price. Will come back to try the poke bowl, noodles or anything else on the menu!

Coffee always perfect, service always friendly. The is food is always delicious and adventurous. My go to is the egg and pecorino roll...simple but so so good.
The Honest Glutton
West 48 used to be one of my top rated local brunch spots. Safe to say I probably wonā€™t be visiting again anytime soon after eating todays dishes.

I ordered the Our Benny & the Pulled pork brisket.

As you can see in the pictures, both dishes were sickly drenched in the hollandaise sauce. Maybe they could get away with it if the sauce was any good, but sorry it wasnā€™t.

Our Benny - the sweet potato hash usually full of flavor, today was so flat and tasteless. I tried to give the left overs to my dog but she didnā€™t want it either. Every bite was like eating hollandaise sauce w/ a side of egg and bacon. It was quite disappointing considering I used to label their eggs benedict to be the best Iā€™ve ever had.

Pulled pork brisket - the potato rosti/ hash brown was dry, the brisket on top - plain. It needed some salad or something to balance the heaviness of this dish. Could not find any cabbage that was meant to come with the dish. Maybe some coleslaw on the side would help lighten it. Again, slopping on the hollandaise will not save the dish, but rather ruin it.

Iā€™m not sure whatā€™s happened with the quality of the food, maybe a change of chefs?
Today was a waste of money.

One of the few cafes that nail every aspect of a fantastic brunch / lunch experience! It begins from the fab service you get on arrival, through to the delicious food (corn fritters and eggs benny are the best!) and the vibe is cool and chilled. There is usually a small wait on the weekends but itā€™s well worth it. Grab a coffee, take a seat and before you know it youā€™ll be seated with a smile.

Mad love for this place! Chill scramble was the best kind Iā€™ve ever had. But I thoroughly enjoy their poke bowl and fritters too. Really friendly staff too makes you wanna keep going back.

Made our morning. Expect a short wait on weekend mornings but donā€™t worry (you shouldnā€™t be in a hurry anyway), throw yourself up against the outside wall covered in street art and soak up some sun while you wait.
Friendly staff make you feel welcome, they will be busy so treat them nicely and be rewarded with great service.
Coffee was great and they received our typical Melbourne coffee snob orders with a smile.
Menu had me indecisive, through only due to all the enticing items on offer. We were recommended the eggs Benedict and pulled brisket on hash browns - couldnā€™t of been better.
Thank you guys, we will be back again.
Rustic atmosphere, great coffee and yummy food! We had Egg Benny and Avocado with feta. Egg Benny was nice but too much cheese so couldn't finish the dish (from a guys perspective). Avocado was very fresh and full of flavour, there was also chilli and cherry tomatoes which were very juicy! Coffee was great too, can't fault it! Grateful to have this cafe in the west neighbourhood. try it out if you are nearby.

Had the eggs benny, which was so so tasty! One of the better eggs benny I've had in Melbourne.

Pity about the older female staff member who seemed like she didn't want to be there. I asked how the halloumi was cooked and was greeted with "how its always cooked, grilled" - well sorry for asking, I obviously should know how every item in the Cafe is cooked! So I asked for it on the side, and when she saw I didn't eat it all I was told "you shouldn't have ordered the halloumi" - seriously lady? The other staff were super friendly though.

In summary, good food, good coffee, friendly staff except for the cranky waitress.

PS: The eggs benny was great without the halloumi

Try this place on a weekday because it is super busy on the weekend. The staff are always so friendly and helpful in trying to get you a seat but when seated, you never feel rushed to leave. The food is good and they have a really good citrus tart.

Went here for the first time today for brunch with the misses. The place is quiet busy had to wait 10 minutes before been seated. We had he mac cheese and pulled beef dishes and both were quiet good and very filling. Price was decent and atmosphere was very relaxing.
Thuyteeisaboy
Been here several times, the food and coffee are ok. My favourite dish here would be the Benedict with pulled beef as it is packed flavours.
The Mad Reviewer
The best food! The tall, short haired waitress is plain rude. People forget that when you work in hospitality, you have to be hospitable. Owners should take note. Was fortunate to have my order taken by the nicer waitress with the longer hair.
Foodlicious
Went here on a Sunday for lunch and it was busy. Had to wait about 15mins for a table. We started with drinks (coffee, hot chocolate and chai latte) which were all pleasant. Service was great. Food came out quickly. I had the benny with halloumi. It was different. The dish overall was quite salty to my taste and my friend who had the corn fritters also said that her dish was quite salty. If I had all the elements together it would still be on the slightly salty side. Presentation was on point. Would definitely come again.

Brilliant!
Staff are upbeat and friendly. Meals are sublime, make sure you are hungry because they are large serves. Coffee is great and atmosphere is always alive - great stuff guys!
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
šŸ˜±Lizzieā€™s first impression: this place is always bustling on the weekend and is the perfect place for a local brunch. Food is always consistent!

šŸ©Lizzie enjoyed: I loved the smashed pea with pumpkins on toast dish and also the hot cakes are bomb too!

šŸ…Lizzie did not enjoy: the wait is kind of long so make sure you head in earlier on the weekends.

šŸ„‡Lizzie rates overall: a great place for brunch where each dish is always consistent and feels homey.
FoodyBoy
Great food, great service. I tried out their banana bread and lemon curd and it was really good, so I'm sure the other proper breakfast dishes will be as even better. Definitely worth a visit. The ambiance is pretty good too, looks small from the outside but there is enough seating inside. Try it.
Grape Life
Great service! Such a variety of dishes. A sushi bowl for post gym fanantics with all the classic Japanese flavours, all in one. Baked macaroni cheese with bacon and egg for those with a hangover. Both super tasty dishes- can't wait to discover more dishes at this gem in the west!
West Of Melbourne
West48 is a typical Melbourne Cafe in the middle of West Foostcray. Have a look at the mural at the side of the building as you stroll by. The coffee is decent and the food is delicious - there are some normal, run of the mill options as well as some more interesting additions like the Tofu Burger.
Full Puku
Not a bad option. Pretty funky venue and delicious coffee. The vegan options are limited but ok. I had the scrambled tofu. It had lots of flavour, I didn't think it was balanced and combined with quite a wet texture was the biggest fan. Others at my table got some of the more adventurous dishes and raved about them!
Thefifth_element
It was a couple of months ago that we went here, on a weekend morning so it was quite busy, but we were seated quickly and the food was definitely delicious!
Pizza Fiend
Great Menu. The food always hits the right spot and the customer service is fantastic. West Footscray is one of those underrated hidden spots in the West and this is by far my favourite cafe.
Kira Dinh
Been wanting to try this place for a while and was able to catchup with some friends last Tuesday. I thought the sushi bowl ($20) sounded interesting so I got that. However , I thought the sushi bowl tasted quite average. In terms of the customer service, I thought it was alright. I think one of the staff was a little impatient because we took a bit of time to order our food.

I love the ambience of this place. Moody, dark, soulful, rustic. Such a great find in the West!!
And the food - to die for. Brilliant combination of flavours and the coffee is consistently brilliant. Love love love.

Vasko Vasilevski
Visited this establishment yesterday and had a great experience!
Service was amazing and very attentive, water and menus were brought out as soon as we seated.

We ordered the Vietnamese ice coffee which was served deconstructed so you could adjust the sweetness which I liked.
Smashed avo was perfection nicely seasoned, with a poached egg which I liked as a lot of places are charging extra for a poached egg, my partner ordered the corn fritters which is said was bursting with flavour, he ordered with a poached egg which unfortunately was an extra.

We enjoyed our visit we wanted to stay longer so we ordered a beer and gin and tonic was refreshing and I loved how they served a premium tonic which I felt really gave it that edge.

Will definitely return again šŸ˜€

We've been here many times, it's our go to brunch spot and always hits the spot. I've only had good meals here and service is always friendly.

First impressions upon arrival;
staff weren't welcoming at all, blunt and unfriendly.
The atmosphere inside the cafe is dark, gloomy and uninviting.
Outside is a better choice for seating; given nice weather.

I was seated at a long table across the back wall, which obviously wasn't thought out properly in the process of designing the interior.
There is no space between the wall and seating, so you can't get through to the back side!
Another customer stood up to let me through.
As I was walking through, she sat back down on the metal stool and stubbed my toe which was extremely painful, but obviously not her fault.

Mind you, a waitress didn't even move out of the way for me to walk past.
She completely brushed past me with her arm, holding some table menu's, and without apologising.

Again, when it came to taking my order, a different waitress was unattentive and short.
They don't have fresh juices on the menu either, so you only have the option of bottled apple or orange juice.
I ordered an english breakfast tea & smash avo with scrambled eggs instead of poached.

When my tea came out, I was surprised to find that the tea pot was made out of metal.
I accidentally touched it whilst pouring my tea and burnt myself... almost spilling tea everywhere!
The cutlery was in a two tins on either side of the table, which wasn't a huge deal, but I received no sugar with my tea so I had to get up to reach the only sugar holder across the 3 metre table.

The meal itself was nice, although the avocado was pilled up on the bread and not spread properly.
Half way through eating the dish fell apart on my plate.

Overall, for the taste of the food I would rate 3-3.5 / 5, but in saying so it was nothing special considering it is $18.50.

I would rate the Service 0 / 5, so I will have to give an overall rating of 2.5 / 5.
I forgot to mention that I wasn't even asked how my meal was, even though the waitress came past TWICE to clear other plates across the table.
I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt and ended up exiting the cafe after my meal, STILL without being asked how my food was!

To come to a conclusion, I wouldn't be back in a hurry.
These days even if the food isn't spectacular or at least just above average, customers will be back if you provide them A + customer service!
Mtr
The sweet potato fritters were as salty as the Dead Sea. Coffee was good though. Maybe I just made the wrong food choice...as I always see this place packed with people.
Tracey Loc
Located behind the western hospital, this hidden gem was quite hard to find but was definitely worth the journey!!
My friend ordered the mac and 3 cheese with the chai latte over ice and i ordered a pea and mint mash with the lemongrass herbal tea.
- my friend really enjoyed the mac and 3 cheese and she highly recommend it. If you like a bit of spice in your food then this is definitely a dish for you!
- the pea and mint mash was average. But i wouldnt order it again (but iā€™ll definitely go back to try out the other dishes)
- the staff was very down the earth
- felt really blessed that it was a nice and sunny day so we had the option to sit outside
-prices were average like most brunch places the price range was around $17-$20 per dish but definitely not pricey for the portion size
Weā€™ll definitely go back!!

This place has to be one of the best brunch places in the western suburbs. Till now I have not had a better chilli scrambled eggs made like this place. Thereā€™s always a huge line for a table so get in early.

Great coffee. Food is good, but I only eat if Iā€™m feeling indulgent. There isnā€™t much in the way of lighter and healthy choices.
Service is great and friendly, dog friendly.
KLLYXNG
If you have a sweet tooth like I do and only order sweets off the brunch menu, get the hotcakes!! Fluffy hotcakes with beautifully poached pears - mascarpone complements the dish so well and I can't imagine another element to the dish. Chicken burger was also done well - the chip serving is incredibly generous. The store itself is rather dark on the inside, so I'd probably recommend sitting outside while it's warm or by the window if you get the opportunity (on the other side of the place)
Penelope Eijsvogel
One of our favourites. Very good service and friendly staff. Great food and plenty of choice. I feel like you can't go wrong by coming here. I love west 48!!!
Serena Shehrbano
I really do love this cafe. The food and coffee is exceptional. I highly recommend the corn fritters, which are a very generous serving. The only let down to this place is the service. This, of course, is not true for all of the staff. But on a number of occasions now I have felt awkward and unwelcome by a staff member, who tend to snub some customers while happily conversing with others.. If thd staff were only a little friendlier I would have given this cafe five stars without hesitation.
Leigh Trezise
West 48 is very hit and miss.
For the location it is very over priced,
It's coffee however is usually great, we've only had one negative experience regarding the coffee.
On one occasion we ordered the batch brew coffee, not only was it brought out towards the end of our meal but it also had a bug in it, all they did instead was make us wait another 10minutes for a new one. By this stage our food was long finished and I was past ready to leave.
On another note ive had the gastric sleeve and asked for a simple thing to be changed with my meal and was quite happy to pay extra for it and the chef flat out refused.
As a qualified chef myself I am use to dealing with requests and meal alterations and know how easy it is to do so!
I hope to be able to change this review to completely positive in the future.

A nearly hidden cafe located in Footscray.
Ordered the Quinoa Bircher muesli, very healthy and tasty.
The smashed avo was delicious, was it worth $18.5? Absolutely not. The prices for these sort of dishes have gone ridiculous. On top of that I just had to add on the button mushrooms because the smashed avo with a sourdough and Persian feta wasn't enough for a dish like that to be served.
We ordered a latte and an iced coffee.
Ice coffee was great. Our latte was weak and so we informed the staff. They got it changed for us but this time they've made the coffee way too strong. It was a disappointment but we eventually gave feedback to the barista and he took the feedback on board.
Even though I work next to this cafe, I'm due for a return and hopefully try other things on the menu that are worth every cent.
Take your lover, friends and family here for a cafe experience in Footscray.
Jim Michael Siamsiaras

Great brunch spot with indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff and great service. Really impressed by the portion sizes, particularly with the smashed avo, really generous serve of smashed avo and great flavours to both dishes (also got the Yum Bowl). Plenty of options for vegetarians and a few dishes for vegans too. Approx $25 per person including coffee. Will return! :)

The best of the best. Such an interesting and creative menu, you won't be disappointed with whatever you have. The coffee is great! Try the Mac n cheese, the Vegemite toastie thing, chilli scramble and the eggs benny.

Best cafe. Best service. Generous servings. Quality food and coffee.

Been to many cafes and keep returning here for the food is by far the best bang for your buck. Never disappointed. 100% every time.

Honestly this place is the place to eat. It has fantastic staff who are only too happy to help. The food is amazing and the coffees are divine. This is the place to go to for any occassion and we have been here more times than I can remember.

NB: I was sick when I came so I'll be mostly describing textures rather than flavours.Ā

Ordered:Ā
šŸŒ”Mac and Three Cheese: with smoked apple bacon & fried egg on brioche ($17.00)
Bowl of chips with a side of aioli ($7.00)

Review:Ā
ā›ˆ Textually the fried egg was aces - wonderfully crispy around the edges!Ā
The brioche bread didn't come in a bun like I thought, but rather a round french-toast style thick cut bread which was surprisingly squishy. The mac and cheese felt okay but my mate who couldĀ taste food said the mac and cheese (in croquettes) was better at Cafe Lafayette in Port Melbourne.Ā
Notably, the bacon was crispy and juicy!Ā

The chips were a massive disappointment although generous in portion. They weren't crunchy or anything which made me feel really sad. Ā

Service was quite funny. We came during a busy brunch hour but were seated at a dirty table and found it difficult to find service after we were seated. They probably thought that the one empty hot chocolate was ours but overall, unfortunately not the best experience.
Smashed Avo
This place has reasonable food, but an incredibly annoying upselling technique that all the staff seem to do.Ā Ie. you order a burger for $18.5 and they ask if you want sauce / aioli with your chips and then charge you $2-3 extra. They seem to have an extra for almost every meal and the extra always comes at an extra costĀ that's notĀ specified. QuiteĀ a pain in the arse and management should either be a bit more transparent or just realise its poor form to extort $2-3 for sauce if your going to looseĀ local customers.. I know several people who have stopped going as a result of this annoying trait
Emma
Great vibe. Huge meals! Lots of options on the menu. Coffee was delicious!! Great cafe to visit in the west! I had the eggs benny (with avo instead of hollandaise).

went here on Saturday morning, super busy but we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table, reasonable as we did not book. The staff were busy but could have been a bit more friendly, the food was amazing! Definitely recommend the corn fritters!

Let's be honest here, this place is popular for good reason. So expect to be waiting awhile to be seated. I waited half an hour sitting on the footpath around the corner contemplating my order as I read the menu thoroughly. The owner made it bearable as he was friendly and entertaining. All the staff were lovely and very interactive. The owner set a great vibe to be in that I enjoyed. I had 'Our Benny' which I didn't dream about that night, probably because I'm not a big fan of eggs Benedict. But I thought I could be turned but I just wasnt. But hey if you love a good Benny you'll be having dreams of Benny's for weeks. The portion size was decent too, I left 20 weeks pregnant and I didn't even know I was pregnant! It was a tough 50 metres walk back to the car I tell you. Overall, it was great experience but could have been improved by some stools to wait on. Cheers team, you're doing fab šŸ‘Œ#kaylascrew #thatsnotmyname Bonnie Carson Kayla Munroe

Very good coffee and solid chocolate in their hot chocolates, but it is at a premium price range - its dead man quality in the inner western suburbs , but still a way behind St Ali's and Auction Rooms. Take note its target clientele are definite hipster and alternate lifestyle but does have a good range of options for children. Friendly service and They can't complain as I observed the reaction of one client when they were advised ( and this was displayed at the point if sale at the register) that they did not have any bon soy due to a supplier shortage.

I walked in and was greeted by a friendly waiter who seated me immediately. Given it was a weekday and quite early (10:30am) there were still some seats available. I'd caught the 'early morning business breakfast crowd'. The ambiance at West 48 is cool, relaxed and homey. The food and service was impeccable. I ordered a chai tea and Our Benny - both scrumptious and devoured enthusiastically. My friend ordered a cappuccino and the Three Cheeses Mac which she loved. I'd definitely recommend West 48 as a staple go-to for any locals or those in the area and I'll definitely be back! It was the best brunch place I've been to in a while.
Daniela Orsi
Lovely brunch at West 48! The service was friendly and they were accomodating in finding us a table where we would be comfortable with enough room for a pram and a high chair. The coffee was delicious and we all enjoyed our meals. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and although it was flavoursome, I struggled to finish it - it's so rich! I'll have to come back and work my way through the menu!

Absolutely love West 48!
Their version of eggs benedict (called "Our Benny") is served on sweet potato hash alongside haloumi. Really delicious and well presented. Coffee is also wonderful here. The cafe itself is quite small and there can be a bit of a wait, so arrive early.

Still will come back if they can keep up the good work

Came back here after almost a year.

Everything was lovely; staff were nice; coffee was good; food was delicious; portion was huge.

Overall, we had a really good start for a long day at work.

P/s: if my corn fritters hadn't been pre-made and pre-portioned, this would have been perfect

Went there today for brunch, nice place and the food was good however $18:50 for the SMASH is way to expensive for a slice of sourdough and avo on top. There was a piece of chilie and 1 coriander leave but regardless that's just way way way to much! Should at least come with an egg. And also there wasn't any feta :(

Very keen to try this cafe based on its reputation. Greeted at the door which was a very nice touch and seated immediately, first thing you notice is how dark the space is though not much can be done about the south facing aspect but would suggest the dark walls do not help. Ordered the Pea and Mint Mash and was pretty excited when it was served and a dish I could just stare at and admire. It just had to be photographed from all angles!! The flavours work well, the smooth and fresh pea and mint mash with the sweet baked pumpkin and the salty bacon, then I stabbed my eggs and the orange lava flow (which you can only get from eggs laid by a happy chook) engulfed the dish. The bread was interesting, it's a pumpkin sourdough though it was a little dense and difficult to cut through but had good flavour. I polished it up though and was delighted to see something more than just smash Avocado on the menu as most cafes do these days. Food here is good but the music is too loud for my liking. Nice coffee.

Love this local gem! Ian and the staff are amazing. Great coffee, fantastic food (hands down best smashed avo in the west), and friendly service.
The only "downfall" is how busy it gets so there can be a bit of a wait however, it's well worth it.
My only real critique is that it could do with some fresh salad menu items

We were lucky and got there before the main crowd got there. Unfortunately due to a misunderstanding as we had to wait for a table to be cleared, our table was given away. It was.obviously not great as we were waiting right in front of the counter.

We had the coffee and a chai latte. The drinks were good.

I had the Benny which was nice however towards the end, I found it a bit too rich and salty. My friend had the vegetarian bowl and was pretty pleased with it.

Overall, I'm rating it as pretty average as service was a big miss. I'm unlikely to be heading back in a hurry.

Downright the best Chai latte I've ever had! Went there with my housemate and he seconded the motion. Would also highly recommend the eggs with crunchy chilli oil.

Midweek breakfast. Had heard this place is super busy on weekends. Quick & friendly service. Plenty of parking around. Coffee looked good but I went for a peppermint tea. Meals were quick to come from the kitchen. Boys went the Our Benny, their most popular dish apparently. It was a repeat order for one of the boys so it must be good! I had the Hotcakes. Sweet breakfast treat. Sushi Bowl is on my list for next time.

A compact cafe that gets quite busy but we were lucky to just beat a rush and not have to wait for a seat. The coffee was nice but not hot enough to savour before going cold. However the food was splendid. I got the Pea & Mint mash which came with nice soft poached eggs, the mint in the mash plus layers of roast pumpkin added complexity for a complete dish. Very well presented. My friend got the Mac & 3 Cheese and really enjoyed it, the 3 different types of cheese stood out and was quite indulgent and filling. I got a chocolate shake to go and was happy with its thickness. Not cheap but not too expensive.
Would recommend

Always busy so hard to find a seat- however food is so so yum and a really nice place for a chill brunch. Really friendly staff and lots of things to choose from!

Tried their "Our Benny"... their version of an Eggs Benedict. Orgasmic. šŸ‘ and the food arrived very quickly from ordering. Was well worth dropping into this place to try Our Benny... they use a custom home made type of fried waffle thing - totally yum. It's not your classic EB.

A little bit underwhelmed by the whole experience. I had their eggs benny. Let's start with the hollandaise. It was actually bernaise sauce. Egg was perfect cooked. Came on bacon and halloumi. Both were great. The sweet potato Rosti was so salty it was too intense eat. That paired with the halloumi bacon and hollandaise just was not a combination I enjoyed. Spoke to one of the waitress about it and she laughed it off and explained many people that day had also said the same thing.

We we were first seated we were told they had no avocado left which was fine but mid way through our meal people were serve being smashed avocado.

Lastly, we had the Vietnamese coffee, it came our deconstruction which was cute but it was just a regular espresso with ice and condense milk.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Mac & Three Cheese. Topped with a perfectly fried egg with a runny yolk and crispy edges, within the casserole was a generous serving of crispy bacon. The star of the show was of course that Mac and Cheese. Cooked to just the right softness, the macaroni exhibited just the right texture and wasnā€™t the least bit mushy. A beautiful cheesy flavour permeated throughout, and the mix of tasty, cheddar and parmesan provided a much more complex and intricate flavour thatā€™s not normally found in any Mac and Cheese. With a slightly toasted, incredibly buttery brioche underneath soaking up all the cheeses, it was an incredibly indulgent breaky that wouldā€™ve been the perfect hangover cure.

It was overall and enjoyable brunch experience at West 48. Despite having a rather conventional menu, the dishes were executed to a high level and offered a tasty and satisfying breakfast with decent coffee to pair.

Came to West 48 for an Anzac Day breakfast and for under $50 we left completely satisfied. My partner ordered the "Our Bennie" with spinach whilst I opted for "Eggs your Way" with bacon, mushrooms and halloumi. Service was wonderful and although there was a 10 minute wait for a table. Food and coffee came out super quickly. Would definitely recommend.

Love love love this place! Their eggs benedict is the best I've ever had (mainly because I love sweet potato, who doesn't) the service is also amazing, always friendly. I've literally dragged everyone I know here, I refuse to go anywhere else haha. Please put matcha on the menu! Definitely 5 stars
Must Be Hungry
Came here on a rainy and very autumny Sunday morning for our usual brunch session. At the door we were warmly welcomed and told that there were not tables available so we waited, the place was pumping.šŸ˜„

After a while the 4 of us got a table and ordered our food and drinks: sushi bowl, slow cooked lamb, smash avo, vegemite and cheddar, a latte, a Vietnamese coffee, an espresso and couple of OJsšŸ˜.

Now here is the real story: this place is super duper special, we simply loved it. The manager named Ian was lovelyā¤, friendly but also very efficient and professional; he definitely made the differencešŸ™‹.

The food was deliciously addictive, flavours, textures and seasoning were not missingšŸ˜š. All dishes hit the mark in no order of preference, it depends what you feel like eating. If you come here, (and you should) you are in for a dining treat.šŸ˜

A packed small narrow cafe, challenging place to find a park. Coffee was not the best, lacks fragrance but the milk temperature was alright. Hot chocolate was decent. Wanted to try the fried chicken burger but they are only available after 10.30am! Had to settle for the Our Benny, which has bacon, halloumi cheese, fried hash, poach hollandaise eggs. Taste wise it is delicious but portion doesn't warrant the price. Our bill came up to $44 for two adults, just over the Zomato average cost. Service was alright but not warm enough that I feel I could talk to them about my day. Or maybe I just badly needed that first cup of coffee, like what the poster said "if you ain't shaking you need a another cup".

This place is ALWAYS pumping on a Saturday morning... sometimes theres a bit of a wait for a table. We had a late brunch so we were seated immediately. The furnshing is simple with a cosy environment - typically this place is populated with locals close by. The menu is accomodating as there is vegan/vegetarian/gluten/dairy free options. Portion sizes are large and definietly filling. I ordered the tofu scramble and I LOVE it! Coffee is also good quality. Service is quick and prompt. Will visit this place regularly!

I've been here a few times and always leave relatively content. Food tastes great but has yet to really wow me. Coffee is well balanced and never burnt which is always a plus. Service is consistently good!

Was a little disappointed this time actually, not as great as last time I was here. It was busy, we understand, and were asked to wait outside which is totally cool, but a few minutes later 2 tables were free and no one came to get us. Most of the staff are super friendly but one just did not smile and made us feel like we were imposing on him. The pea and mint mash was fairly tasty, though it would be even better with more mash, as it is the 'hero' part of the dish. They would not substitute bacon for avocado, which I'm pretty sure bacon is more expensive than avocado right now. Thankfully the smiling staff (most of them) made the experience better.

West 48 is a great family friendly addition to the Footscray cafe scene. Not blowing the roof off anything creatively, they serve up good, hearty dishes packed with flavour. You won't see any acai bowls here though, more of a big brekky scene to cure a big Friday night out.

Food was tasty but we ended up waiting about 45-50 minutes after ordering, for our food to arrive. I want to like this place and think the food is great but service is inconsistent and haphazard.

Pleasant staff and seemingly busy cafe. Went for the kransky on ciabatta, and the corn fritters with smoked salmon and a poached egg. Serving size was decent for both dishes. The ciabatta wasn't crunchy and perhaps not entirely fresh, the scrambled eggs were tasty enough but the vintage cheddar looked like pre cut cheese slices which was a little disappointing. The corn fritters had a nice crunch but were bland. Saying that, every time I choose corn fritters for brunch they seem bland to me (when will I ever learn?), but maybe they're supposed to be bland? The poached egg was overcooked but all in all it was an ok experience, made better by the staff and the coffee.

Visited this cafe situated in a residential area on a cold rainy weekend a couple of weeks ago. Cafe was busy when we arrived around 9am, and we had to wait around 10mins before getting a table. Friend and I ordered scrambled tofu and the corn fritters dish. Food came really quick and portion size was generous. Tasty food and coffee was good too. Great cafe on the west side of the city.

Perfect brunch spot for a cold morning during summertime which is just down the street for me. Wanted to order the Japanese pancake but unfortunately it was sold out for the day although it was only 9.30 in the morning. Ordered the scrambled tofu instead with sauteed Asian mushrooms which is yum and flavoursome. My friend had the corn fritters and it's equally delicious with a good portion size.

I cant rate West 48 highly enough. 5.0 doesn't do it justice!
Every time I have visited the food and coffee has always been consistently great, but more importantly, the staff are so friendly and all over great people.
They always ensure we're comfortable and always have a smile on their faces. My Dad can be difficult in public due to a brain injury, and outings can be quite a challenge sometimes. The staff have always made us feel welcome and their friendly and relaxed attitude always seem to comfort him whenever we bring him out to brunch. A big thankyou to West48 for everything. Keep up the good work guys!!

This cafe was recommended to me by my sister. It is hidden away in a side street of Footscray has a cosy feeling inside, but almost a little too cosy to take young children (which I did) The latte I ordered was perfect so I ended up having two...but the highlight was the Eggs Benny! Absolutely amazing, its a huge call but its probably the best I've had. The rosti is a great idea and the haloumi works so well with it. I cant wait to go back and eat it again. Besides that the service was good, wait staff were a little confused about where food/drinks were going but it wasnt a big deal. Overall a great experience.

I went to west 48 on a weekday morning when it was relatively quiet. When we sat down, the staff basically ignored me and my friend for like a good ten minutes without acknowledging us/ handing us the menu, and went to serve other customers that came in later. After trying to get the staff's attention to request for the menu, the staff only gave the two of us one menu to share. It wasn't even a busy day, but the ten minutes of waiting and being left out really made us feel a bit annoyed and hurt.
ā€Œ
ā€ŒOn a positive note, the coffee was really good. However, I ordered the signature chilli eggs, only to find out that the chilli oil used tasted exactly like the Chinese Lao Gan Ma chilli oil I use at home. The dish was on the oily side (chilli oil scrambled eggs on sourdough toast with chorizo), I think some kind of pickled veg/salad may offer some relief to the otherwise heavy-in-flavour dish.
ā€Œ
ā€ŒI'll probably still come back for takeaway coffee, but I think I'll opt for other brunch options next time..
ā€Œ
ā€Œ

Greatest eggs benedict of my life ... perfect poached eggs, bacon, halloumi and sweet potato hash. Amazing staff and customer service. Coffee was spectacular. Get into it.

Food here was really disappointing. The corn fritters was on the floury side and the salsa should have been more tart and sweet to give the fritters some kick. Unfortunately it was pretty flat and after the 2nd mouthful, everything kinda tasted the same. The kransky sausage was charred and dried up when served. Skin was so tough it was even hard to cut up with the knife. Clearly not fresh and frozen when it was thrown into the fryer. Towards the end of my meal I even found a hair in between the bacon coated with sauce. Ughh. Will not be going back even though the coffee was good and the waitstaff were friendly.

Tucked away in the inner streets of Footscray is the intimate cafe, West 48. The relaxed ambience of this cafe brings about a positive vibes making it a great place for coffee. We ordered the Our Benny and the Organic Beef Burger. Everything about the Our Benny was beautiful, though it is not recommended you should order the burger because it was over priced for what it was and did not taste as satisfying as what you would get at 8bit down the road. Despite this, would definitely come back again for the Brunch Menu.

Great coffee, awesome service, our wonderful waiter recommended the brisket on hash browns with chilli and Sujuk. I must say it was one of the best dishes ive had at a cafe. Chilli scrambled may be a little hot for people but perfect for us. Well def be back. Coffee great aswell.
