Had my 50th Birthday and my son's 18th Birthday celebrations in the upstairs function room, and would recommend this to anyone interested in having either a work function or personal party.
The finger food was some of the best we have tasted at various functions. Four days later and our friends and family were still commenting on how good the food was. Both delicious and served hot. I can recommend the Arancini Balls, Fish Goujons, Salt & Pepper Squid, Crumbed Calamari and Orawn Gyoza.
Staff were attentive and friendly.

Food was amazing!! The aranchini were delicious and the chicken parmigiana was sensational! It was massive and best of all it wasn’t on top of the chips 😍 Service was top notch! Will definitely be going back!
Bistro-style menu, and the food is on a par with the best bistro meals I've ever had, at a very reasonable price. A quieter environment too, despite our group adding 4 kids under 5 years old to the mix! If we are ever out Footscray way again we will be back.

I had my 30th Birthday in the upstairs function room and I couldn't of picked a better venue! Simon was amazing helpful! The space is perfect for a party, with your own bar, bathrooms and balcony. The fingerfood was delicious, I had multiple guests comment how nice the food was, and there was plenty of it. Thanks so much!!! :)

In a word - Friendly. Booking was a pleasant experience. Four in our party were welcomed to drinks at bar before being seated. It’s a simple, no frills space that delivers no frills well cooked , what some would call “pub staples”. Gyoza, calamari and saganaki entrees were shared, all were excellent. The mains included lamb ribs, gnocchi, salmon and pie which were all well presented and tasty.

The best calamari I've eaten. Food in general is great and staff are super friendly. Been a few times and will be back many more. Once again, the calamari is simply phenomenal
One of the nicer dining places in West Footscray for lunch. The gyozas were tasty, the pork rib eye was so tender, we also tried the salmon which was a little over done but still good. The staff were attentive and only came if required. Overall, we had a relaxing enjoyable lunch, perfect atmosphere for adult dining.
I've been here a few times now and I have never been disappointed with the meal.Service can bit a bit slow at times and the ambiance can get rowdy as it is also a bar.It has a good selection of beverages with many Australian beers on offer. Twobirds (local brewery in Spotswood) was the main selection in the specials.The spaghetti pescatori (with tomato based sauce) is brilliant - seafood fresh and calamari not overcooked, clams however were a bit gritty.
At this price point definitely a place to visit for Australian / Italian cuisine.
After my first review - I have decided to increase the rating of this place after more subsequent visits.This place has found a place in my heart and my belly.

Pretty good value and service, steak special is a solid meal, very calm yet professional table service and comfy decor. Beers on tap are good as well not skimping, have very fresh kegs, not watered or flat.
Been here five or six times now. Service is super friendly. I've had something different every time. Always fresh and tasty and there are still a bunch of things I want to try!

We had the calamari which was lovely- crunchy and not too oily.
I had the pork eye rib which was gorgeous with the roast veggies. My friend had the gnocchi which was a bit disappointing.
Service after the tapas was just a bit slow however it was a Friday.
We recently booked the upstairs space to have a birthday party here. Due to various circumstances we had to cancel the party 2 weeks out. Simon was incredibly understanding and professional with us, and we were really happy with how he resolved it with us.I cannot rate them high enough for their understanding and the ease at which it was working with them.The event space looked great and hopefully we will use it in the future
Delicious simple food. Each morsel of the steak and mushroom pie was delectable. Crispy pie crust, warm and soft mash and flavoursome steak. The roast vegetables were full of flavour too. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. They served us ice water bonus points for me there because I hate when restaurants serve room temp water! We will be coming back!

5/5 stars for their spaghetti pescatore ! quality seafood in an oil based sauce with a hint of chilli cooked to perfection! Been here twice and ordered it twice. I can eat this again and again. wish it wasn't THAT GOOD so i might try something else on their menu.
lovely staff too. they gave us enough attention when required and left us alone otherwise which was great. The venue itself is simple yet very pleasant. The owner jazzed it up with very large pieces of original artwork and paintings. I really appreciate and enjoy this.

Came for the $12 lunch special we saw on Facebook and had the Schnitz burger. Was really tasty and you get to choose your own dipping sauce for the fries. The picture makes the burger look tiny but it was pretty big!

What happens when you’re trying to diet and maintain a healthy lifestyle you have been struggling to keep up on the daily? Well, you usually receive a vague text such, “ciders. same place. 6pm.” just before your gym session. How could I say no? I’m not a monster. Thus, started the evening at 540 on Barkly situated on Barkly Street in West Footscray. I must confess, I love to share. Sharing food with friends is a great reason to fill up your table with an array dishes you have never tried before. This is especially true when you’re friends with people who’re usually not so sensible and over order beyond their stomach real estate can handle. My kind of people.
Best food in the west by far. My favourites include Simons chicken breast and their amazing burgers! Lovely people and awesome service every time.

Verdict? We were lucky enough to snap up a Cudo deal for four tapas and a dessert to share between two people, which finally gave us an excuse to check out this local venue. The feast was an absolute bargain at $25 and everything was pretty tasty, especially the bruschetta and the sticky date pudding. The staff were friendly, and the environment was clean, modern and had a pub feel. We'd happily return for a drink and a bite or two!
Expensive food, but readily describable as "good", though not $36 amazing. The desserts though, were mind-blowingly great (brown ale pudding, oh god). Top atmosphere and service to justify the price.
Had dinner here last night with the family and we were all extremely impressed with the venue, menu and the attentive waiting staff and we will definitely be going back. One suggestion though is to leave room for the best sticky date pudding in town!
Had lunch here today with my mum. A very enjoyable meal. We were greeted warmly and offered water immediately.
I had the lamb burger. Very moist and the chips were tops. Loved the yoghurt sauce. Chips fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. My mum had the fish and chips. She found the fish too oily for her liking ( it was cooked fine - she thought the type of fish was oily). She too was happy with her chips.
Lovely decor. Loved the old photos of Footscray on the wall.
This place deserves to succeed.
I had the mushroom and spinach sauce with homemade gnocchi and it was amazing. Big serving and full of flavour. Will definitely be returning.

34/60. My husband and I went here for the first time.
The staff were lovely and very accomodating, we give a score of 9/10 would have been a 10/10 had we been given table water without having to ask.
Atmosphere we rated a 5/10 our poor little table cactus was dead, very industrial type decor, straight away I noticed there was no music. We would have liked to seen some candles on the tables, some soft relaxing music would have been nice and something to soften the harsh industrial type interior. We did stop to have a look at the beer garden on the way out which I must say looked very inviting.
For an entrée we had the arancini balls, they are of similar quality of the woolworths balls, nice and moist, the tomato sauce was over powering. We also got the chorizo meatballs, which were moist and flavoursome, but didn't have that spicy chorizo punch we were hoping for. For the entrées we scored them both together as a 5/10
For the main i had Simon's chicken, the chicken was moist and well cooked. I liked that there were vegetables in the dish, but I felt like there was too much going on, too many different elements on the plate. It was as though someone thought 'how many vegetabkes can we fit into one dish'. I gave it a 5/10
My husband had the pork which he found quite dry a 4/10
For dessert I had a sticky date pudding, the star of the night, although I would have liked some more icecream, I scored it an 8/10
My husband had the chocolate fudge which he scored a 7/10
This place has great potential and we hope they can use any criticism contructively as this is what will help them to thrive.

Decided to try this place on a whim tonight for an early dinner.What a delightful surprise! Friendly welcome and a lovely interior with an inviting outside area. service was faultless and relaxed.Everything we had was delicious. Lovely soft gyozas,delicious crispy arancini and an excellent chicken dish and nicely cooked risotto. Good prices too.This place is a welcome addition to West Footscray.
A great option in Barkly St. Had the Tuesday night steak special with a group of friends last night. It was terrific -each porterhouse cooked to the exact specifications. A very generous meal including delicious gravy, chips and salad-a very good buy and a great local venue. Service was excellent and it's great to have such a decent and well presented venue so close to home. While the indian restaurants nearby are great-it is good to have another option in barkly st, and little creatures pale ale on tap. Come on locals-get down there ;-)

Brilliant Food. The bruschetta has to be the best out there - and have also had one of the best (wait for it) fish and chips ever at 540. The ambiance needs a bit of work - still a bit 'cold' but all in all.... very much worth a visit.
Wow! This place is my new fav haunt. Reasonable prices, outstanding quality food, warm and friendly service! Cannot fault my recent dinner here! I was famished so shared the tapas calamari while everyone arrived. Outstanding! The bruschetta was yummy (I like a little more cheese but that's because I love dairy!) and for mains we ordered the seafood spaghetti (amazing!), steak with mushroom sauce, warm chicken salad and the stuffed chicken breast. All our meals were loooovely! Thanks guys!
Been here for lunch only. It was good.. Nice staff, good beer on tap (little creatures pale ale), and the food has been great on each occasion. Not very busy though, it needs more support during lunch time guys! Haven't been for dinner, so can't comment there... But lunch was an enjoyable experience.

Our only complaint was that the sides were very late (we had almost finished our mains) and the garden salad was dressed with obviously commercial dressing (I'm pretty sure it was Kraft French from a bottle!) that needs to change! Lovely sticky date and apple crumble.
The feel of the restaurant is a little cold and clinical... Maybe add some lower lighting and table candles? Outside needs a few more large plants...I really hope this restaurant succeeds in our lovely area of Wefo....good luck guys, we will be recommending!

Went there tonight with my 'future' ex-girlfriend and friends.
Meatballs, calamari, bruschetta, risotto and steaks were amazing.
Generous size main meals left us full and complete. Although content, the ladies couldn't resist and thus a few desserts were ordered and shared - yum!!
Will definitely be coming back to progress my way through the menu: possibly with new company! Wink wink

Not French but good Modern Oz. Went for dinner on a Wednesday night. Menu not expensive but good general offering. Ordered gnocchi lamb ragu and stuffed chicken breast. Both very good quality and reasonable cost (low twenties). Took a fair while for food delivery but worth the wait. Good portions and no requirement for side orders. Not byo at present. Wine by the glass was good, not cheap but nothing out of usual price range. Service level very good. Nice ambience. Definitely worth a visit.
Went for dinner, I had the pulled pork sandwich, and my wife had the vegetarian risotto...We live in hawthorn but will definitely be back. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful, they made it an enjoyable experience. 10/10 food amd service

540 has been my go to for dinners out with a group for years. Very flexible - no problem with one person just having a drink or going straight to dessert (hello awesome sticky date pudding back from the 90s). Always happy to split payment.
Great local vibe with regulars having a drink and people greeting one another. The food is always great and the service just right - good but not pretentious.
We found a this great local bar/restaurant and highly recommend this place. We had a porterhouse steak and salmon. Will come back to try other items on the menu.
