Review Back Alley Sally's - Footscray

I’m sure this place goes off in the noon! Came for lunch and had a few pizzas and tacos. Found the food ok but really enjoyed the hot diggity dog pizza. This one def gave a spicy kick and was overall delicious. Had a few drinks as well. Overall Add the hot diggity dog pizza 🔥

Typical of back alley bars in Footscray. Parma night is great value at $10 for a good size chicken parma (lots of varieties of parma to choose from, including a low gluten option). Quite busy and booking ahead is definitely a must. They seem to roll out the parmas quite quickly despite the large numbers.

Excellent friendly service at Harry & Larrys General Store. Great pizza from Slice Girls West & best ever take home ready made cocktails from Side Alley Sallys. 3 great places in one. Nachos is yum too.😁😍

Great little upstairs bar/restaurant in ... a back alley! A super casual, friendly and warm atmosphere, cool music, excellent pizzas ($8 on Tuesdays!) and a great selection of beers on tap.
Ryan Stabler
The bar staff and beer list are great. But the food supplies by slcie girls west was a disgrace. Obviously cooked by a vegan lactose intolerant chef who pushes their views on others Nachos? No cheese Loaded Potato gems with spring onion, cheese and bacon? No cheese and bacon Pizza? No cheese. This place is not what it used to be

Great vibe on a Saturday night, easy to get to - plenty of street parking nearby. Food and drinks service was great. Awesome place for an event. A few different spaces to choose from.

Liked it a lot. Wine on tap! And a good selection of beers and other beverages. Converted Industrial space with a great vibe, music and good seating. Can order food (mostly pizza from downstairs - which were okay) but for a place to go for a chillaxed time. Check it out. It's getting popular especially on the weekends.

One of my fave footscray bars. Good selection of drinks, decent prices too. Jugs good value. Pizza from slice girls downstairs is amazing. Would recommend the nacho pizza and the cheeseburger pizza. Nice vibe and ambiance, the booths are lovely for a date night. Staff are super friendly.

Wow what a cool place. I was referred to her but a mate as a quiet place to have a beer and catch up with friends. I think the secret is out. We went for drinks on a Saturday night was a lot of people eating pizza and drinking beer. They have booths and some big wooden tables and also tables with stools for 2. Was some big groups on the big tables we just grabbed a stool each. Great selection of drinks but we chose a jug of beer. The beer was called Happy Ending couldn’t resist haha. We also ordered a pizza which was amazing the crust was yum and the toppings so fresh. We will definitely be back yiu should try this place won’t be disappointed.

Loved the vibes, and the layout on a Sunday afternoon. Got a flat pot of Kosciusko which was happily replaced. Only downgrade of a point was I thought $7.50 a pot was at the exxy end. Or maybe I've just got old 🤔😉

The best Gluten Free pizza I’ve ever eaten! Love this place, friendly staff and they pour a mean margarita too.

Huge thanks to BAS for providing the coolest venue, greatest staff and fab food for my party last week. Staff bent over backwards to accommodate our decorations and large crowd and essentially helped make our night totally AWESOME. X

Happened upon this place by chance on a Wednesday night . Had a ball !! Great beer , wine& eats, cool decor & bonus, it was Halloween Theme Trivia Night !! Best time, lot of laughs!! Will be back very soon 👍

Such a cool place - super friendly staff, excellent range of beer on tap!

We celebrated my sisters baby shower here on the weekend in the side room.... It was absolutely amazing, pizzas were fabulous, room was perfect and the wine was delicious.... The absolute stand out though were the staff Kat and Cheese are legends!!!! We will definitely be back!!!

Just so damned good. Cant believe this is my new local. Love every single thing about it. Pizzas were great, drinks were awesome, music and vibe were killer and staff are just spot on kapow!!

Good atmosphere, good food, good coffee, good alcohol, good air con. Definitely recommend this for everyone. Has a nice family environment while maintaining the atmosphere of a bar. Great venue for drinks or dinner.

We were looking for something a bit different for our Bad Mums Club launch party and Back Alley Sally's definitely delivered. Staff were awesome, food was delicious and drinks were well received. Thank you for allowing us to do our thang! MDC Workshop & Events will definitely be back. X

Such a great find in a back alley. The quinoa salad and nachos were delicious but a bit sad they ran out of gluten free bases earlier that day when my friend had called in the late arvo asking if they had gluten free bases. Staff were super

Threw my fiance a surprise party in their function area last night. The service was awesome. The vibes were on point. Pizzas were amazing (especially that truffle oil mushroom one, that stuff was the shiz )! Special shout out to Kat for making sure we were well taken care of! Will definitely be back when we're next in the area thanks again guys

My score 4.0 stars. J and I had a quick early dinner here on Thu 5th Dec. A trendy little bar upstairs above Slice Sisters - nice seats in the cubicles and quite family friendly by the looks. We were near-by, so thought we’d try the cheap pizza deal ($6 pizzas 4-7pm Thursdays). Staff were friendly and helpful.<br/><br/>Drinks: We had 2 that were on tap: White Rabbit Dark Ale – Very enjoyable. Pipsqueak apple cider – Chosen because it was the driest one available, ok (not overly complex).<br/><br/>Pizza: Posh slice – Pumpkin, cherry tomato and Goat’s cheese et al. Very good, pumpkin not too sweet and cheese and tomato counter-balanced it well. Would have again.<br/><br/>Forever mushroom – Mushies, caramelised onion and truffle oil et al. Thought this would be my fav and although it was good, for some reason it was a bit sweet (which detracted IMO).<br/><br/>Some kind of superstar – Roasted spud and onion, feta et al. Thought this would be my least fav, but it was very good too. Both spud and cheese not dry (as it can often be) and it wasn’t stodgy either (as spud pizzas can be). A good example and tasty! Would have again.<br/><br/>A good first time experience and definitely going to do this again on a Thursday (when we’re not in a rush) – lots of choice and once you find your sweet spot on the menu, you’ll get a very good pizza at a bargain price...

I really like this place. It is a cool vibe where you can go for a drink with your friends and eat a killer pizza. I ordered the new Bumper to Bumper vegan pizza and it definitely hit the spot. Thin crust and generous ingredients. On Thursday’s all pizza’s are $6 from 4pm-7pm, who couldn’t love that!

Back Alley Sally's is a great place for a drink or two, a cocktail a gathering of friends and some nibbles to top it all off. <br/><br/>We hung out on a Sunday afternoon with a few friends here, the service was great. The cocktails were mixed well and were flowing freely. <br/><br/>We had a few pizza during our Sunday session which made this visit all the better.<br/><br/>If you're looking for a place for a chilled out Sunday Session with your besties, this place is a worthy look in. Especially if you don't want to trek into the city.

Stumbled upon this bar by coincidence.<br/>Great mismatch fitout, friendly service, and the pizzas were good.<br/>The drink's prices are not the cheapest around, but worth for the experience.
Vegemite Girl
Lots point and cudos for charging me 5% on my debit card. Absolute rubbish. My mate ordered Glenfeddich 18 years. After paying, asked for the receipt due to being shocked at the price- they gave him 24 years. When he asked about this, they said 'oh we dont have any of the 18 years keft'..... yet thought it fine to charge for the more expensive one??? Massive WTF. <br/><br/>Expensive- both food and drink, for what you get. Slow service.<br/><br/>Very homely surrounds and nice and warm. <br/><br/>Pity about everything else.
Espy Eats
We arrived to this neck of the wood much earlier than our planned dinner elsewhere and it was a terrible miserable cold night so fortunately stumbled on Back Alley Sally’s as we tried to escape the rain. The first thing we noticed as we walked past was the sounds of people enjoying themselves. Inside the styling is rustic, almost Brunswick Street of old and I loved it. We walked up the stairs into a very cool space and perused the drinks menu discovering an interesting sounding haymans sloe gin which we had to try. We sat down and people watched for a bit and then got chatting to the go owners brother who was sitting beside us. He gave us a great rundown of the history of the place while we moved onto the Rosé (on tap) <br/><br/>They serve pizzas from the kitchens downstairs and on all accounts the pizza menu is extensive and looked delicious but we never actually got to try so will have to come back and sample another time. <br/><br/>Definitely recommend and wish it was my local.
Veggie Eats
If you like urban cool meets non authentic pizzas that still taste like heaven, then this is your place.<br/>Don’t be put off by the hipsters, the pizza menu is a vegetarians best friend. 20 minutes later and I was still trying to decide amongst the many offerings. Went with the veg taco pizza, cos go hard or go home. If you’re into some gorge level food, then order this bad boy. Ain’t nothing wrong with pigging out. And yeh, I ate the whole thing. Honestly though, tasty as fuck. <br/>Cocktail jugs ... not a fan. Tasted a little watered down. Then again, maybe the food baby is what caused the lack of tipsy. <br/>

I liked the place funky vibe .. good pizzas excellent bases. Had the cheeseburger pizza which we both loved , and a more original one and the drinks menu was good too also the little corner shop underneath we bought the best pasta in there
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: hidden in the back streets of Footscray, this place reminds me of another pocket of Fitzroy. <br/><br/>🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I love the vibes there and I would expect it to go off on a Friday night - I went there on a Tuesday night and it was surprisingly busy. They also do specials on pizza and they’re delicious and crispy. Also has a lot of toppings. <br/><br/>🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the wine on tap didn’t do it for me and neither did the bottle we ordered that wasn’t on tap unfortunately. <br/><br/>🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great place for locals with fantastic pizza.
Munch On Melbourne
delicious rectangular pizzas, great serving sizes for drinking groups! do love the relaxed atmosphere and friendliness of staff! Would suggest better organization behind the bars as both times I've visited they ran out of lychees and mint...hence the lychee cocktail and mojito was out of the question, would return
Chips Before Dips
For midweek pizza, this place was pretty decent. We tried a variety from the menu. My personal favourites were The Cray-Cray, and Some Kind Of Superstar. The garlic bread pizza was definitely a must.
Narda Tees
Nice local spot for a good beer and pizza catch up... would be nice to have a live music which I m see it will happen soon enough with more n more apartments coming up
Wine And Food Lovers
Stopped into Back Alley Sally for a pre-dinner drink. It is a great bar lots of good seating & atmosphere.<br/>I will absolutely have to go back to try the pizzas they looked amazing & the husband was raving about them.
Andrea Quinlan
Ambiance is better than the pizza... fun and cool for drinks but again pizza is not the best pizza you will ever have. They have trivia nights too!
ForForkSteak
Super cool bar hidden in a back alley (hence the name) really nice staff and pretty good pizzas and beers on tap. Have been here twice and on both occasions have not been many others there. In saying that I wasn’t there during peak period
You Had Me At Haloumi
Nice place to have a drink. An assortment of seating options. From booth type seats, larger communal tables, high tables with stools for two. They are even child friendly where you can find a few things to keep the kids entertained by the back such as books, crayons etc. even so it doesn’t exactly feel child friendly being so dark and the music a smidge too loud. They serve pizzas here as well as nachos, lasagne and some salads. We only tried some of their pizzas though. Servings were not bad for the price although partner and I both agreed the base was stodgy. Which is a shame. Won’t be back for the pizzas! But otherwise happy to have another option for a drink closer to home even with some stodgy pizza to line the tummies.

amazing! staff lovely, food amazing and well priced. great music and atmosphere. went with a group and were well looked after. will definitely be back.
Ross
What a vibrant and super buzzing atmosphere inside this upstairs bar. The beef nachos where good and the on tap beer selection is excellent.
Marcelkettmann
My fav place for a beer in footscray. Good drinks List and cool staff. The food is hit and miss but this place has the best vibe in footscray.
Jess
Had heard really good things about this place for ages so decided to check it out recently. Can't say it lived up to the hype. I think as a bar it's alright, but food was a let down. Pizza was ordinary, was expecting more to be honest. Loaded with toppings but seemed like no care had been put into it. Pizza base was hard and toppings were of poor quality. If you are after a cheap, filling meal then it would suit you. I know it's not marketing itself as a pizza place but it could lift it's game seeing as many bars these days have food just as good as the drinks.

We came here on a Wednesday night for Trivia and had a ball. We ordered three pizzas to share which were tasty and cheap, nothing over spectacular but good value for money. Feeling still peckish we ordered nachos to share unfortunately it took 25-30 minutes to come out. It was a smallish size bowl and definitely not worth the wait. Bar staff were cheery and efficient and had a great selection of beers on tap, wines and spirits. Great local hangout for west side locals for a cheap night out.
The City Lane
Back Alley Sally’s features many of the trademarks of owner Jerome Borazio’s other ventures, Sister Bella, Ponyfish Island, 1000 Pound Bend, and of course Melbourne lane way O.G. St Jerome’s.
Mo
Hip Footscray bar and pizza place. Lots of seating to choose from a be it in a booth or at the bar. Huge range of drinks to choose from and spice girls themed pizza. Forever mushroom is quite tasty and so is the zigazigaaa. Trendy young crowd though I'm sure others will say it's gentrification at it's worst! Nevertheless I had a great time here and will come back.
José
Hard to review a place like Back Alley Sally's, it's a hipster bar with pizza, but also very family friendly, it felt like I was in a Fitzroy Bar, but then saw a bunch of prams, which is just...different. Anyway, Pizzas were OK and most importantly the beer selection was extensive. Had a great time overall, biggest let down was the fact that this establishment closes early.
Cray
Air-con needed please. Came for dinner, a bit of a hipster joint. Had the cray cray pizza $13 and the two become one $15. Nice toppings, crust wasn't the best, dryish. A positive, furphy on tap, $23 a jug.

Just moved to the area and been here a few times before as it has a great vibe and the Staff are good !! However tonight (24/1) was a real disappointment. We ordered 1 pizza to share for 2.<br/>The Ziga Zagu came out burnt and asked if we could have this pizza redone as the edges of the pizza was burnt black.<br/>When the person returned with the pizza it looked totally different to the first pizza and smothered in so much cheese!!! Most sickening.<br/>It will be a long while before we come back here again.<br/>

Called in mid afternoon on a Sunday for pizza & beers. Shared The Cray Cray and a Garlic Pizza. These are some seriously tasty pizzas! The beer selection on tap is also impressive. Will be bringing a group back for a proper Sunday session. Good space for a birthday gathering or small Christmas party.

Footscray is without a doubt up and coming. There is some huge potential for the hipster wave and under 30's yuppies to move out West and I guess that's what St Jeromes creator and now owner of Back Alley Sally's is counting on. <br/><br/>They already have a tasty pizza joint Splice Girls and now there is a huge warehouse conversion bar upstairs. If you have ever been to sister bar Thousand Pound Bend in the CBD you will feel right at home - they look very similar. There is beer on tap, you can order pizza to the upstairs bar for around $15 a pop. The booth seating is not the most comfy and the layout is very, dare I say it, Melbourne. <br/><br/>Lots of dark lighting and places to stand or sit. If you are already living out West it will probably be a nice place to checkout, for everyone else It's not really a destination bar - nothing you can't get elsewhere. If your in the neighbourhood check it out.

Have been here twice now, first at night, then during the day. I love that there is a space like this in Footscray, a bar that is not a pub, that taps into the desire for a larger space where you can be more anonymous, another voice in a larger crowd. It is an easy place to relax in. Both times I have had pizza from downstairs (Slice Girls West), and been pleased with my decision. For me, this is a great space for a casual catch up with friends. No outdoor area yet, but if/when that happens, this will be perfect.
WestSlice
Nestled away at one end of Footscray this place is just what the area needs. Somewhere to settle in, score some toasties or honest Pizza from Slice Girls and some ripping local beers on tap. Gets a good mixed demographic too so it's a welcome spot for many occasions. Look forward to seeing how they evolve this space over the years to come. Get down there and support it for sure.

'Hidden little gem, for pizza and beer'<br/><br/>Had a chance to have dinner here last week. Heard great things about the place so had to try the pizzas and hot dogs. <br/><br/>Scratch that *hot dogs no longer on menu*.<br/><br/>So the pizza (menu with spice girls references); Viva forever.<br/>Hella good. <br/><br/>Garlic Pizza: Hella good<br/>Definitely have to try the other flavours!!!<br/><br/>I also tried the Saganaki burger. Different texture as cheese filling instead of meat. Tasty substitute but best had with other foods.<br/><br/>Then we downed it with a beverage. <br/>*Local and imported beers at BAS.*<br/><br/>Nice hang out upstairs if your into watching bands etc. Really nice staff, even told us about the puppy outside :). However, closes a little early as possibly residential zone. <br/><br/>Best parking around the corner, with a short walk.

Pizzas were the cat's pyjamas (Slice Girls West providing from downstairs), the beer selection was a good mix of local and interstate craft beers, and the vibe was just right. Service with a smile. Wish it was just round the corner!

Such an awesome lil treat you are to the westies. The twelve of us had the best time at our friend's birthday last night. Absolutely love the extensive drink selections, we also couldn't fault their food menu. We were served by the friendliest and most knowledgable guy behind the bar, Jack. We said yes to literally every single recommendation he made and no regret. Ziga Zigah with extra chorizo? Yes! Saganaki Burger with an extra veggie pattie? Yes! Cheaper, tastier Brunswick made pilsner? YES! Coconut flavoured gin with cloudy apple juice? YES YES YES. A great addition to our locals, too bad the night ended a little too soon with the 10pm closing time. I hope your request for longer trading hours gets approved soon!

Love this place. The service is fantastic and love the atmosphere too. And I love that there's a bar in a laneway near my place! Upstairs from pizza shop Slice Sisters so you can get a good feed. We sat by the fire last night too.

Clean cool grunge. <br/><br/>Welcome addition to the footscray bar scene. it's already pack to the brim after work.

Great to see some new places opening in Footscray. Great space and good vibe, however think the service could improve a little. Drinks were decent but also think they could expand on the wine list. We had a pizza which was tasty (the GF base could be better) and a bit disappointing that there wasn't a simple salad to go with the pizza (had to get a quinoa salad that wasn't very exciting). Overall not bad but definitely room for improvement!
Faiz
Pleasantly surprised with this new bar! It was a little hard to find, but all you have to do is follow the music. The pizza was fantastic. I had the forever mushroom. Drinks specials were diverse. The brick interior was rustic and perfect for a relaxing night out. Service from the bar was exceptional. I highly recommend a visit.
