I wanted to say i went in to get the ricotta canolli for my friends birthday as requested i had to google the best shop and this came up the ladies were beautiful helpful and gave me a canolli to eat whilst they freshly filled 15 of themfor me, a beautiful little shop i also got a coffee to drink definetly going back, everybody raved about how good the canolli was and asked where i got them, thank you so much
OMG just had the ricotta filled cannoli and words cannot describe the explosion of amazing flavours in my mouth!!!! To die for!!!!
Cannoli's are authentic, homemade. Absolutely enjoyable.. Staff were so friendly. Gave me some Amaretti biscuits to try. So kind.. After tasting them, I had to bring some home for the family.. Must try, I do agree, they are the best in Melbourne.. 😋
Seriously speaking the best cannoli in melbourne and i have tried many! Do your self a favour and try them for yourself..you will not be dissapointed!
I highly recommend the cannoli , they are amazing service is outstanding and love the old school set up which you don’t find nowadays . Oh and the biscuits are absolutely delicious
Wow! Beautiful history behind this family business... best cannoli and almond bickies I've ever had!!! Really warm friendly service xxx
Very few places earn a lot of praise and justify the hype. Once you try cannoli from Cavallaro, then you will realise that the praise they earn is fully merited.
Best cannoli ever!!! Great local business that's been servicing the community forever and tastes better than the ones in Italy.
Amazing cannoli and other delish treats! Definitly worth seeking out for a visit or 10!
The most amazing cannoli I've ever tasted!! How have I lived in Footscray 7 months and not tried it before! Will be back
The cannoli are superb esp the ricotta. Lovely to hear some of the history from the family Cavallari.
I wouldn't go anywhere else! Highly recommended you guys to everyone I meet!!

I've developed this odd fascination with cannoli ever since I watched Godfather III. There's this scene where Don Altobello, one of the antagonists, devours cannolis in this dark theatre watching an opera. I knew they were poisoned and that he's going to meet his inevitable end soon, but I gatta say he really ate that shit good - so good that I started wondering maybe he died because of the flavours exploding in his mouth and not the poison. I still remember that scene clear as day. The way he chows down like a hungry hippo with pieces of the shell flying off with every bite. Finishing it off with an aggressive finger sucking trying to get all the flavours out. The way I see it, he's the OG mukbang star, a true A+ actor. RIP Eli Wallach - THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!
I babbled a bit but the point is T Cavallaro & Sons delivered. Their Fresh Ricotta Cannoli was mad proper. I could literally taste this thick dense chunkiness of fresh ricotta with every bite. Not to mention, shell was crunchy just like how I expected it to be. As if that wasn't enough, I was served by a lovely nonna which just completed the experience. Low key sad that I didn't grab more. If you happen to know a single Italian lady (preferably, from Sicilly because that's where Don Corleone's from) with a secret cannoli recipe, hollaaa. I'm legit down to settle if I can eat this everyday.
Holds a candle to cannolis in Italy itself.
Unlike many bakeries, here they fill each cannoli to order, keeping them crispy and flakey. The fillings are perfect in flavour and texture, whether you get ricotta (which you should) or choc/vanilla pastry cream. Just so ridiculously delicious.
The chocolate/vanilla custard and ricotta cannoli are great. Friendly service. Will definitely be back
The most delicious cannoli ever tasted!
freshly piped delicious cannoli
Got to try the fresh cannoli from T Cavallaro & Sons thanks to my boss bringing a selection into the office. The mini cannoli had a wonderful crunch and the filling wasn’t super sweet like others I have tried with can be a little overpowering. Up there in my top two cannoli in Melbourne.
After a long building inspection two surveyors took a well earned stop here to grab cannoli being Sicilian I of course had the ricotta and the calabrese the custard. The shell was perfectly made in house and filling excellent. Accompanied by a cAfe this place certainly earned our trust and after the sustenance enabled us to solve the hard stuff. Grazie e complimenti
On my list for a long time as being one of the best cannoli in Melbourne! This was a good one indeed , the outer casing was so crunchy and the filling was not too sweet !
Hands down the best cannolis in Melbourne; the ricotta cannolis and custard/chocolate cannolis are restrained, in the sense the flavours aren’t overpowering, offering the right amount of sweetness; and you can taste the ricotta. The cannoli shells are sensational! Frangipani tart is also fantastic; great flavours and not dry, which is important. Next time will try rum baba - forget any other cannoli store, even if it’s a fair hike to reach.
Take a trip to Nonna's house.
Great lost in time place to grab a quick coffee, and maybe a little sweet.
Old school service, that never disappoints
Without a doubt they make the best ricotta cannoli here! I have traveled through Italy and nobody makes it as good as this small Italian place run by family. Absolutely not going anywhere else for Cannoli!
After having lunch a few doors away we called in to pick up some treats to take home for dessert.
Our 4 vanilla & chocolate cannolis were still
fresh and crisp when we ate them later that night.
The filling is a nice, light pastry cream that’s not super sweet.
Best eaten on the day they’re purchased as the shell becomes soft the next day.
The small store has a few tables inside where you can have a coffee with a sweet treat. The decor is original and the staff were just lovely, especially with our little one.
No eftpos.
Cutest little sweets cafe with so much culture and authenticity! The owner was so lovely to let me try assorted biscuits and to explain the long history their recipes have.
The almond biscuits were so delicious and chewy. The ricotta cannoli was so creamy and the perfect amount of sweet. The shell was super crunchy but thick as well, I highly recommend the ricotta! Unfortunately I did not enjoy the chocolate cannoli as much.
I will definitely be back to try out the assorted biscuits here! Must try if you’re a cannoli lover
After reading other reviews on zomato, we decided to come here one day while we were shopping at the nearby market. A small but charming little shop, upon entering my mum and I were served warmly by the two women behind the counter. Inquired about what nuts the cannolis contained which they very readily informed us were almonds, lucky for me as I can eat them!
We ordered three cannolis, two ricotta and one half vanilla half chocolate custard, a bag of crostoli and took them home.Upon tasting the ricotta cannoli I was blown away. The ricotta had a great light texture and wasn't overbearingly sweet. The almonds mixed in gave some nice texture contrast as well as a subtle difference in flavour when you got some in a bite. The shell of the cannoli was marvellously crisp and perfect with the creaminess of the filling. My mum was a harsher critic (as per usual), she said the ricotta could have had something else to enhance the flavour, but she complimented the crispness of the shell. She enjoyed it overall, but said it wasn't anything to crow home about. The crostoli I found were average, I let my mum eat most of them. The definite highlight for me was the ricotta cannoli!
If I was in the area again and had a cannoli cravaing, I would return.
Went to T Cavallaro today after having tried their cannoli at a work function. By far the best cannoli EVER!!! Amazing service to top it off. Can’t wait to go back!
Best best best ricotta cannolis. Been going here since 2013. The Viennese biscuits are also a must here. The ladies here are always nice and welcoming.
Staff was super friendly and gave us some background about this shop that was interesting. So happy to see a family business running successfully in the west for over sixty years. We had coffee and some sweets. The cannolis were fresh and delicious. Best I’ve ever had! We also tried a piece of cake that’s freshly baked today. Yummy! Coffees were good too. Definitely return to try other stuff.
My score 4.25 stars. J & I had lunch at Footscray today (near Cavallaro's) & took home our first Ricotta cannoli & Chocolate/Vanilla custard cannoli - we ended up scoffing them as soon as we unpacked the car! J preferred the ricotta version. I also liked the ricotta, but really liked the chocolate part of the combo one too - the vanilla end was the least flavoursome/interesting IMO. Next time I'd just get a ricotta one. Overall the pastry was tasty & crisp, the fillings not too sweet (yay) 🙂! Not cheap at $4 a pop (TA), but as a special treat they are well worth it. They place them in a nice white cardboard box to protect them if you don't eat them in-house - the woman who served us was delightful... Update: Had another TA Ricotta cannoli (Feb) - yummo! I think eating-in with a freshly made one & a strong coffee is going on our bucket list... 😃
Traditional recipe, approved by all of my Italian colleagues. It must be good! Order it fresh from the store, usually takes about 20mins. For more foodie goodness follow my ig: emptystomach
Best cannoli I’ve tasted in Melbourne.
Light and airy, not too sweet, not oily. Freshly piped at 9:30am. A little pricy for a small one $4. And short opening hours. But definitely delicious
If you haven’t had cannoli before, don’t go anywhere else. Just come here and you will never want to try any other cannoli out there.. Nestled off Barkley street you wouldn’t imagine that this place has the best cannolis in Melbourne.. Little bit pricey but like all great dining joints this place is cash only. Whenever we go we would usually order the Fresh Ricotta but this time we gave the Vanilla & Choc Cream Pastry a go and it was amazing too. These go great with afternoon tea at home..
PROS
Located across from footscray market their Cream cakes are heavenly and cannolis are wonderful. Great range of biscuits as well and the canollis are so fresh that they've made them for me ON THE SPOT,everytime I've been there! Wonderful little shop with absolutely lovely staff.
CONS
A little on the pricier side but i think i feel that moreso because of the location they're in and that there isn't a nice comfortable seating area to enjoy their wonderful sweets in.would love to enjoy with a coffee.
FYI
they sell a range of italian items like coffee pots etc too. Would be great if they got permits to put tables out the front like many other businesses on this strip
Did you know the best cannoli in Melbourne comes from a store in Footscray that has been open since the 1950's? If you didnt know this, you need to get educated.
This is my go to when I'm in Footscray. I stop off here and ask for some cannoli which they do on site so you're not getting off the shelf stuff. I love the ricotta filled ones but the chocolate and vanilla ones are also spectacular.
Service is friendly and authentic, run by the family. This place is so Melbourne.
Cannoli is really tasty. I tried all the flavors and ricotta is the best. This is a family business and the owner, Tom, is very nice and friendly.
No doubt the best canoli I've ever tasted! The place looked super authentic with a nice Italian family running the place.
ordered: ricotta canoli ($4): The shell of this canoli was very crispy and the amount of ricotta filling was very generous. Creamy silky ricotta with a hint of orange zest then that crunchiness from that shell. I don't think you can get a better canoli anywhere! This is probably the closet you'll get of a canoli from Italy.
I’ve never been to Footscray before but I’m so glad I made this trip. When people tell you this place has the best cannoli, take their word for it. I got one for each flavor, and while the chocolate&vanilla one is fine, the Ricotta one is definitely better. Crunchy shell and (huge amount of) creamy filling make it a perfect desert. I’m tempted to finish these two all at once...
Will come back for:
+Cannolis
Best Cannolis in Melbourne. Just saying. This traditional family owned patisserie has been doing this for a long time and the same way. Cannolis (ricotta and vanilla and chocolate) are piped when you order them, and need to be eaten soon after, so that the shells remain crunchy and delicious. What else is there to say? Do yourself a favour and give it a go.
I was shocked by the line, then started to google this shop... turned out it was a hidden gem!!! I have to admit that the line was really long and took me at least half hour to wait for 3 cannolis. But the cannolis tasted great! I ordered one of each favour, personally like the villain one. Worth to try.:)
Our first visit to this family owned and run pasticceria. We were welcomed like family even though it was very busy. The canoli, biscuits and coffee were fresh and delicious. We might move to Footscray! Get yourself over there for a unique Melbourne experience!
I have to be honest, I'm no expert to talk about Italian cannoli, but what I tasted here will be my standard from now on.
The shell of the canolli was so crispy, it gave a nice crunch when it went inside my mouth, and I can taste the rich n creamy ricotta and lemon zest.
Tried the almond crescent and a small tart (I can't remember the name) it had shaved almond on top and I can taste a marmalade in the tart.
The almond crescent and tart was nice but the cannoli still the winner.
Best cannoli in Melbourne, by far. Worth the travel to Footscray for these bad boys. Every time I make the trek to Footscray, I always get myself a cannoli, which are made on site, and have been around since 1956. I'll be a very sad boy if this place ever closes down and have let the owners know this. I cannot stress enough how good this place is. Whether it's ricotta or custard (chocolate and vanilla)... you're winning. Did I say that these are the best cannoli in Melb?
5 stars. Ricotta cannoli. Enough said. Yes they have other stuff, but this is signature item of this institution. The best, just simply the best.
Honestly couldn’t fault this place !!
They make the cannoli fresh in front of you, with the crunchy outside and super creamy inside
The staff are super friendly
They gave me a coconut drop while waiting and oh my gosh it melted in my mouth
Would recommend
Three words, Canoli, Canoli, Canoli, seriously nowhere else in Melbourne will you get a better one. The crispiest shell (so fresh and crunchy that if you attempt to cut or break the canoli in half for sharing, it will end up on the wall, floor, window and all over you and your friend so don't share it) and the creamy and not too sweet ricotta filling will have you wanting another. Such friendly staff, no frills space, hasn't changed since the 70s but i don't care when the Canoli is as bloody awesome as this.
Cannoli to die for!!!!
Been coming here for years and it has ruined cannoli for me since I can’t eat anything else but theirs now haha.
Will definitely be back .. again
Really really good!Especially the ricotta cannoli. I am gonna try it again before leaving. 特别好吃,ricotta味道的cannoli真的是太赞了,离开之前我一定要再吃一次。店铺不是很大,但是历史蛮久的。
Didn’t see cannoli on display Sat morning but kindly ask at the counter and you’ll be given one if you’re lucky! Pastry was nice and crisp but not a fan of the vanilla/choc custard filling. Will try ricotta next time.
Holy cannoli, batman!
The moment you step into T Cavallaro, you can feel the authenticity.
The cashier who served us was more than just polite, more than just friendly - she was warm, and kind - I felt as if she was somebody's Nonna, but when she served us, she acted like she was *our* Nonna.
Of course, the cannoli is the pride and joy - if you leave without trying at least one of their incredible flavours, you're doing yourself a disservice!
I also had a cappucino and a lemon tart, and both were equally delicious. Some of the smaller biscuits and tarts are maybe a little on the steep side, but the coffee was incredible, and I'm definitely going to come back to try more of their cakes - especially the iconic Italian ones.
Thanks, T Cavallaro & Sons!
Found this lovely cafe whilst trying to buy a small cake for a friend’s birthday around Footscray. Wanted to go in yesterday, but turned out they closed earlier due to the heat (it was around 41-42 degrees), so I came back again today to try it out.
Upon entering, I could feel the warmth and homey vibe from the bakery/ cafe. I love the decorations and interior — not too overcrowded, I felt like a kid going into a candy shop. The food display, the smell of coffee, the friendly staff — everything was impressive.
The staff serving us was really kind, she asked if it was my first time going to the place, and she gave us recommendations of what to order. I ordered the ricotta cannoli and a cream-biscuit covered in chocolate (i forgot what it’s called, sorry), while my boyfriend ordered a lemon tart and cappuccino. The cannoli was superb, i don’t normally eat sweet dessert, but this one tasted great — crunchy and creamy, but not too sweet. I think the price is pretty decent (although my boyfriend said it’s slightly pricey, but it just depends) — One cannoli is $4 (or $4.5 if you dine in).
Although, the place is quite small — it has 4 tables, so roughly seats 9 people max, if i’m not mistaken. And they don’t have outdoor seatings, so if it gets pretty busy (which i’m assuming it does, most of the time), you just gotta have the food/ coffee for take away. But overall, everything’s pretty great — they deserve the 3 and above-star rating. Will take my family here next time when they visit!
Ordered all flavors of Cannoli for takeway: Chocolate, Vanilla and Ricotta. "Wow!" At the first bite. The ricotta filling was the best. Creamy, tasty and delicate filling encased inside a magnificently crunchy pastry shells. The choco and vanilla custard were in perfect balance, not overly sweet. Almost could not believe how could such a delicious sweets exist. The shop staffs were warm and friendly.
Amazing , the best cannoli in Melbourne and not expensive. I like the ricotta favour more, of course since it is the classic! Well definitely came back for another one!
We have been wanting to try this place in forever since I’ve discovered this place on zomato since it was rated so high. I’ve never had a cannoli before and so this was my first time-I thought the pastry part was very crispy and delicious. This is the one of the only places that make cannoli homemade and is the best cannoli place in Melbourne -definitely recommend to try it!!
Heard a lot of good things about the cannolis here and couldn’t wait to try it myself. Now, I can confirm that they are indeed the best cannolis in Melbourne. Tried both the ricotta one and chocolate one, which were both absolutely amazing. There’s a perfect balance of crispy pastry and creamy filling, very generous size and not too sweet. Had to buy a few to take home!
The best cannoli in Melbourne. Been more than a handful of times and they are always spot on. Crispy pastry and perfectly not too sweet fillings. Always freshly filled, both ricotta and custard options are fantastic.
T Cavallaro has been on my radar for a long long time. I have only heard good things about their cannoli and of course, cannoli were what I had my eye on when I was there. Yes, I don’t deny the other biscuits caught my eye but I was adamant not to be a glutton. Ordered two to try - one ricotta and one chocolate, but only realised in the car on the way home that the lady gave me both ricotta ones. Oh no! However, all was not wasted when I bit into it. Sturdy and firm, yet crispy enough to snap when bitten into. The subtly sweetened ricotta filling was smooth and creamy, and the powdered sugar dusting elevate the sweetness level to “just right”. I just wished I was given the right order so I could savour the chocolate dipped cannoli too.
We also ordered a latte to go and while it wasn’t spectacular, it was aromatic and was a strong blend. So in the end, I was still quite the satisfied happy camper despite the little hiccup.
Tried one Cannoli at the shop and bought extra 1 more back home, That's the best bakery I have ever had before in Mel, I should recommend it to all of my friends!
Seeing many good reviews over cannoli from this Italian shop, finally today i went and grab their ricotta and chocolate cannoli. It's like hidden small shop where you can miss it if you just walk past by. The Italian lady served and i see the old Italian man is making the cannoli in the back. I found this old shop is beautiful where they still stick to keep making their traditional cookies. I'm enjoyed the ricotta cannoli more, it has crispy texture and the ricotta cream is just well balanced.
Ps: Only cash accepted
Best canolli I've ever had, - we're lucky to have such an establishment around this area. Ricotta (first preference) and vanilla are soo incredibly delicious!
Nice and small Italian place that sells the most crunchy cannoli. Very generous size that is filled with so much stuffing. There's a ricotta option which was tasty and sweet, and a chocolate/custard mix. At $3.75 each you can't complain!
Very yummy biscuits and log rolls. Flavours are nice - ricotta and a half/half. I felt they were expensive though, especially considering the bargains you get elsewhere in Footscray.
Awesome place for Cannoli. Fresh, clean, place to eat from. 8 minuye uber ride from the CBD. Highly recommended for borthday cakes and has also a number of different high quality patisserie / cakes
DO: The cannolis obviously. They freshly pipe them in for you whilst you wait. They are arguably the best in Melbourne. So crispy and delicious.
DON'T: Know which flavour? Order the ricotta, the chocolate and then the custard (that's my order of preference).
TIP: They close at midday on Sundays - so be quick. Also order a delish Italian coffee when you're there.
Best Cannoli in the Biz.
This little shop frontage on Barkly Street, Footscray is hard to find but once you find it enter a traditional Italian hand made oasis... which looks like a milk bar but just go with it, trust me.
Ricotta Cannoli is seriously brilliant ! 🙌🏼
If this sounds too adventurous, try the custard one.
The Ricotta Cannoli was nothing short of spectacular. Generously sized, the fresh, brittle and crispy pastry was abundantly filled with ricotta cheese. The ricotta was delectable light and fluffy without being airy, providing a hint of sweetness and a beautiful cheese aroma throughout. Contrasted by the sweetness and crunch of the pastry, this was one perfect cannoli.
Lovely little cosy place with the nicest owner who offer you genuine Italian sweets. You can taste their passion and love from the sweets. love it!
My parents have been going to Cavallaro for 30+ years - since before I was around.
I've tasted a lot of cannoli form all over the world, Cavallaro are the best BY FAR... family & friends agree. For the best experience, go in and enjoy a fresh one (or three) with a short black in the shop.
"BEST IN THE WORLD"!
Oh my! I still remember my father coming home with yummy treats from this place back in the mid 1980s and things haven't changed much since then - which is welcome! It's one of the last remaining bastions of the old migrant-Italian guard and is a family-owned gem.
T. Cavallaro is well known for its deliciously addictive custard cannoli which are a must, but you'd be hard-pressed not to find a sweet treat you wouldn't find equally addictive. Coffee is strong and good and if you can get past the crazy Footscray streets and find a park, it's a place you must visit.
The best cannoli I've tried so far! 🖒🖒 Ordered the half & half and the ricotta cannolies. This shop does look like a gift shop at the outside and I was doubting if I was at the right place. haha.
Half and half - This is half chocolate and half vanilla. The filling is smooth and not too sweet. You can eat the whole cannoli by yourself because it's not overly sweet. However I do find the vanilla filling a bit eggy (maybe it's only me). haha. 😜😜
Ricotta - This is recommended by many reviewers. There's texture in the filling due to the nuts which makes the cannoli tastes yummy! 😋😋 I prefer this than the half & half.
The shell of the cannoli is thicker but is very crispy compared to other places. What amazed me most is that the shell wasn't oily or greasy at all! 🖒🖒
The size of the canolli is pretty huge and I was full after eating one. haha. And for the price paid, I'll say worth it! SO GOOD! 👌👌
Cannoli tastes amazing and fresh. It's crispy and the custard isn't too sweet or bland. They're made on the spot. Service is a bit slow as the women just talk in the back non stop, I was ignored a few times
Dropped by hear after hearing so many raves and hype about this place. Very cute tiny bakery/cafe. All I can say is try their ricotta cannoli!! It will not disappoint you. 👌🏼
Small coffee and cake shop located amongst streetful of Vietnamese restaurants.
Had coffee and ricotta cannoli from here after lunch. Great coffee and dellllicious cannoli. I inhaled mine :)
For the best cannoli around, do head over westwards to T Cavallaro & Sons. I happened to be in the neighbourhood and enticed a friend to join in for some ricotta and chocolate cannoli here. It definitely lives up to it’s reputation and at $3.50 for a gigantic serve, it reflects great value to boot. Despite being mega fried the cannoli never has an oily aftertaste and the filling is max’d out and oh so luscious. Sweet and not too sweet, and a fantastic contrast of textures and flavours that’s easy to eat. A definite place to hit for some outstanding Sicilian pastry.
Visited what's been dubbed the "home of the best cannoli in Melbourne" for the first time with a few mates after lunch today, and absolutely loved the place from the outset. Whilst the cannolis themselves were amazing, I have to highlight the service from the owner, who was just an absolute legend of a bloke, and a king of his craft. Hats off to T Cavallaro & Sons for gifting authenticity, homeliness and quality to every person that walks through your doors. 5/5
For all the Cannoli fans out there, it's near impossible that T. Cavallaro & Sons has evaded your periphery, given it's 60 years of existence.
The Ricotta filled pastry was collectively adored by my household, the Chocolate & Custard version, not so much. One of my missions is now to find someone who likes Cannolis that much to warrant buying the cake version for!
Well worth a visit for other Biscuits and Coffee also.
Much like Jerry Seinfeld’s reaction to Kenny Bania’s frequent "It's the best, Jerry! The best!” exclamations, most people including myself tend to receive such comments with skepticism. Having said that, I have on rare occasions pulled out the phrase, and definitely use it when describing T Cavallaro & Son’s cannoli. They're the best in Melbourne and better than the few I tried during my time in Italy. I shall refrain from calling them the best in the whole world until I taste some more from Italy...
Really nice and genuine people work here, excellent ricotta cannoli , coffee is ok, but should stick with espresso. Parking can be an issue but Footscray market across the road has 1 hour free.
If a cafe could change your attitude to a dessert, then it wins. I didn't have any good feeling for cannoli until I had them here today. They were super crunchy outside and had the perfect filling. Have some here with a cup of coffee and take some home or you'll be regret.
I have lost count how many times I have walked by Cavallaro & Sons on Hopkins St (across the road from Footscray market) and looked in the window thinking I must have a look in there, yet kept walking.
Finally I stopped, opened the door and walked inside and stepped back into an old school Italian style cafe, awesome.
Everyone in the shop is super friendly and straight away I spotted the cannolis, I love cannolis, like really love them so I was chatting away and they explained that the cannolis are made and filled on site. On offer is ricotta or vanilla and chocolate. For the sake of research I ordered some of both and I have to say the ricotta is my favourite.
Crisp, bubbly, sweet but not sweet, the ricotta is beautiful and smooth with little chunks of hazelnut. This is my idea of cake heaven!!
Cavallaro & sons have been in Footscray since the mid 50s and they make and serve traditional Sicilian desserts including almond biscuits, biscotti, and patisserie cream as well as the cannolis.
Hands down the best Cannoli in Melb, probably even in the world! Lovely staff and a fantastic experience. This place holds true history of the area of Footscray and is definitely more than just another swanky cafe.
A tiny cafe next to Footscray market.
The cannoli has a crunchy outside shell, doesn't have that oily after taste or chewy texture. The fillings are great tasting, balanced flavour, not too sweet and not too bland. We got the riccota cheese, chocolate and white chocolate. They all tasted very good. Ordered a box worth a try.
As the original home of Vietnamese and now an increasing African community, Footscray also houses the best cannoli. Sometimes we are told not to believe in the hype. Thankfully T Cavallaro delivers the goods!
This place is so Legit. I stop by to pick up Cannoli for the work boys on occasion and they are always on point. The staff are always super lovely and helpful. Best by a long way!
T Cavallaro & Sons is a lovely little Italian family owned pastry shop. The family are lovely, friendly people. We ordered a Cannoli cake for my sisters birthday and it was amazing. The Cannoli was authentic and delectable. They have been making pastry for 153 years, so they seriously know what they are doing.
TIP: Do try the biscotti and an espresso if your passing by- it really tastes like Italy.
The ricotta cannoli was perfection. Super crispy pastry and creamy ricotta filling with just the right amount of sweetness. The chocolate and vanilla custard was also good but hard to beat the ricotta. Very friendly service and the lovely lady gave us an extra ricotta one that had slightly broken upon filling. You don't find much service and generosity going around like that these days!
Very delicious cannolis and pastries with very friendly service to boot.
Well-positioned down the corner from the Footscray market precinct which means it makes it easy to drop by here for a pastry or 2 while taking a break from grocery shopping.
Easily the best cannoli in Melbourne.
I have been a long time fan of cavallaro's and have always been impressed by the quality of their products. The cannoli are amazing and the cakes are always at a very high quality and have been able to maintain this standard for over 50 years.
Definitely worth stopping for while going through footscray
A Melbourne and Footscray institution. A must visit; unless sugar if out 😀. If this place had a large seating area it would definitely be a buzz.
Without a doubt, the real reason you would visit this place is for the most gorgeous husband and wife who are still operating the shop - 60 years on.
We did come to try the 'famous' handmade fresh cannolis. Sure they were lovely, but I have to say the Brunettis ones are just as good in my mind.
We also tried two type of almond biscuits- and they were delicious. As were the chocolate dipped shortbread with jam in the middle.
Thoroughly enjoyed our across town visit to a true Italian Establishment. I wonder how long this place will exist....not many like it these days.
This has to be the best cannoli I have ever had. Excellent crust and the ricotta filling was perfect. I would definitely return. Very friendly Service
+: the friendly ladies behind the counter
-: the overrated cannolis (they're good, but they aren't exactly 'to die for').
Wow! That basically sums it up. The ricotta cannoli was amazing, the chocolate cannoli was amazing, the whole damn thing was amazing. I had to get a dozen to take home to share with the family. Do yourself a favour and try this place! Highly recommended.
10/10 this place is the real deal. Super friendly and the best canolis I've had this hemisphere. You can tell they've been doing this for decades, the shop is old school with just a few little tables to eat the most delicious ricotto canolis, the choc/vanilla ones are good but the traditional is the best!
OMG I love these cannoli, seriously the best light crunchy shells I've ever had, amazing ricotta filling, not overly sweet & no candy peel or chocolate (no choc lining ty) just delicious real authentic sicilian cannoli. The vanilla custard is ok but I prefer mine made with lemon peel the sicilian way. If you want traditional italian desserts make the trip to Footscray it's worth the journey!
The lady at the counter told us they made the best canoli in Australia. Big call. I profess that I haven't eaten a huge range of canoli in my life, but this was very well the best I've ever had. You can get the vanilla/choc or the ricotta canoli, so we naturally got both. We also got a rum baba (a brioche like bread soaked in a rum sugar syrup).
To be fair, I wanted also to take home a bag of biscotti, cristoli, shortbread and viennese biscuits, but had to exercise self control. All the goods just looked so delicious.
The ricotta canoli was the unanimous favourite. The ricotta filling is lush and creamy, and doesn't have the lumpy, grainy texture that is often characteristic of ricotta. It's not too sweet. The shell is crisp and provides a satisfying contrast to the creamy filling. It's just yum. Try it.
The best Cannoli I have ever tried! Marrying into an Italian family I thought I've tried it all until I tried their heavenly ricotta Cannoli. I find myself often dreaming about its not too sweet flavors melting in my mouth, those with more of a sweet tooth will love their Vanilla and Chocolate ones.
The best Canoli ever!!!!! Ricotta is by far the best and the custard are good as well. They are piped by order and are so deliciously flakey and crisp. I can only say is get on down and eat them now.
I wish I came across this gem earlier in my life. I used to walk pass the shop every morning when I was in highschool and thought... "How is this shop still in business? There's nobody ever in there." Fast forward more than 10 years later and I discover that it's not an empty tiny shop but an institution famous for their cannoli. Served fresh every day their cannoli has become my favourite sweet thing to eat. Love it!

Ricotta cannoli... Wow!
Family run business that has been there for many many years, friendly service and the best cannoli in Melbourne, highly recommended
The best cannoli I have had! Thick and crispy shells filled with delicious ricotta or custard without being too sweet!
Quite a small shop but with a couple tables to eat at and grab a coffee.
I also bought a bag of crostoli to take home and they were delicious!!
Friendly service makes this a definite place to go!!
Absolutely amazing! Got three canolli, 1 of each of the vanilla, chocolate and fresh Ricotta. The shells were crisp and fresh, as were the fillings. The chocolate wasn't that nice.
Incredibly nice owners, very friendly. Loved having a chat to Carmelo and his wife and learning the history of the store. The cannoli's were delicious (as were the amaretti cookies I had), and the atmosphere in the place is very homely. Simply outstanding and look forward to returning. I just wish they moved out my way so I could come here everyday:)
What a fantastic place! Came to Footscray from the city specifically to eat Pho (At Pho Hung Vuong Saigon) and go to T Cavallaro & Sons (both on the recommendation of a friend). We arrived near the end of the day but couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. We came specifically for the ricotta Canoli, which were unbelievable. Being a fan and having eaten these in Italy, New York and other parts of Melbourne, I can honestly say that these were THE BEST I've ever eaten! The coffee was also great...What really made this an experience rather than just a tasting was the shop and the staff. The shop is a really quaint throwback to the 50's when it was founded, its refreshing to see something different in this age of generic minimalism. We met the proprietor (Anthony) and his wife who were some of the most welcoming people we've met since we arrived. We stopped and chatted for a while and honestly it was like being at your local village café (just with much better food and coffee!)Whilst the food and coffee was certainly among the best I've had in Melbourne, the overall experience of visiting T Caravallo & Sons WAS THE BEST, they're a credit to Footscray, we'll definitely be making the trip again soon!
