Review Okami - Footscray

Andrew Nguyen
Great fish and chips, nice crispy batter that isn't too thick. Fish tastes fresh and flavourful. Owner is very friendly. One of the kids serving can be a little shy serving customers, but they'll sort you out ;)

Food: Great quality! Great variety! Service: Exceptional people. Lovely staff, very friendly and accommodating. Location: Main road, with plenty of parking around, Outdoor seating available. Value: The bento boxes may seem a little pricey, however they're definitely worth it for the quality and size. Summary: Rumours were flying around. Original Japanese owners have left the shop to new management that don't deliver. However upon first visit, we were impressed by the service. Perhaps just to build up the rating? However it has been very consistent and the owner is super nice. She has a keen eye for fussy customers and make improvements as soon the opportunity arises. For example, a customer complained about the standard miso soup that had been serving for a while, which was immediately upgraded to a higher quality recipe as soon as this happened. Will return, and can't wait to see what they bring out next!

I used to come here about 5 years ago and loved the food then, and still do. Recently had the fish bento (twice!) and miso soup, both delicious, and great serving size of fish. The tofu cheesecake (based on iron chef recipe) is very smooth 👌🏼

Fabulous Bento Box. I did a take away prawn with teriyaki and it was wonderful. Crunchy salad and pickles. Lots of prawns and other yummy sides. Highly recommend

We loved our delicious sushi platter last week! Thanks for your time and attention to detail in preparing it. Highly recommended!

Small Japanese take-away place with just a couple of indoor and outdoor tables for dining-in. Lunch time sushi and bento boxes are way above average Melbourne quality and excellent value.

Always good. They seem busy at dinner time although so they never let us wait over 20mins. Impressive! Fast service, delicious pork belly bento❤️ I always have the pork belly bento when I'm lazy to cook but want to have nutritious delicious meal. Love it 💜 and my partner loves Katsu curry, I love their salmon sushi rolls too❤️

Had 2 Bento boxes takeaway, duck and teriyaki chicken. They were hardly Japanese flavours, in fact each box had a Vietnamese pork ball while the chicken was just 'grilled chicken'. The workers were speaking Vietnamese, so clearly is Japanese food cooked with Vietnamese influence, not exactly what I was after. The worst part was the duck had an off smell and taste, had to throw out.

Amazing food with great portion sizes. Exceptional, friendly and fast service. Nina has done a fantastic job getting this Restaurant back on track. I’ll definitely recommend a visit.

Fantastic, food, service and atmosphere! Highly recommend and great value for money!

Bruce Booth
Fantastic food love it service is good.
Richard Pollock
Yes its a franchise, and its poor quality, not worth the money to dine in or take away. Will never go back or takeaway again.
Rosie D
Love visiting Okami. Such diverse food and great quality. Also fantastic value for money! I will definitely be back again soon!

Food is always nice and fresh. Service and staff are lovely. It’s definitely an in and out kind of place.
Tip: food food all at once, sometimes the dishes take ages to come out and you’re waiting hungry
Potatolover
The food here was decent however some of the items were definite misses.
The sushi is pretty good quality and you can get your moneys worth on sushi alone if you wanted to.
The beef tataki and tempura prawns and vegetables are also good
The edamame however were a definite miss, along with some of the noodle and meat dishes.

Great place for an all you can eat experience. Service was mostly attentive, they'd rush over to help us whenever they see us holding a menu. Despite this, they did miss some of our orders which was a slight annoyance. Food was all super tasty. I absolutely loved the miso beef and the takoyaki. Sushi was also pretty nice, it'd be nicer if they allowed us to choose which pieces we wanted rather than get a random assortment though.
Sweetkiwicakes
I love the food here. All the dish we tried were tasty and good. There could be more options but overall my partner and I had a nice experience. I would recommend this place for other people.
Anna Huang
food not as fresh as expected
Food Dine Roll
Food coma alert.
This place will definitely give you that.

It's a good Japanese restaurant. Some dishes were outstanding and some soso as you would expect with all you can eat.

Beef Capaccio was beautiful. Udon yakisoba tasted like how yakisoba should (you would be surprised at how many that doesnt), Beef steak miso was soft and surprising good. Potatao croquet was yum. The cold soba tasted great but huge portion and obviously all the sushi were great.

I think i will be back again for sure.
Van Nguyen
Great selection of food for buffet, good for its price.
Food however came slow and we ended up waiting for a while for our food, perhaps more staff might fix the issue?
Lots of food were made before hand, ice cream were scooped and placed on a saucer before service, so presentation isn’t something to expect!
Jessica T Nguyen
A really nice and local all you can eat! For $32.80 i reckon thats pretty worth it. Food comes out nice and fresh, wish their options expanded a bit more just because we’re constantly ordering the same thing over and over. Delicious food!
Krystal Dowling
This place is amazing! I've been here twice and loved it each time All the dishes are fantastic and it's insanely good value for money- I always leave super full and content. Our booking didn't go through the second time, but the waitress was so lovely and accommodating and I can't wait to reccomend this restaurant to others.
Foooooooooood Long Subbi
nice sushi and steak. you couldn't expect more from 30 dollars all you can eat. been there three ones and definitely will go? back for my forth!!!!!!!
Sarah
The tempura udon was really weird and strange. Definitely not authentic, soup was wrong, ingredients were wrong... Chicken don was ok though. Not fantastic, just average.
Red 5
Good food, great price however the service can be a little slow they could use more staff. Overall though was fanyastuc will definitely go back!
Jessica Cumine
Sushi is sensational here! Just slight issues with communication in terms of what’s available and what’s not after payment has been already made. Overall good service besides that! Will update review once I try more dishes on the menu
Kathleen
Went here for the all you can eat menu, the staff were extremely attentive and friendly with quick service. However the food was a let down, although there is a moderate selection, the quality is something you sacrifice for the quantity. The sushi and sashimi was delicious however the pictures (depicting a variety of sashimi) were misleading as you only get salmon sashimi. Not a bad restaurant but I wouldn’t come back again.
Jane
Nothing to dislike about this great dining experience! Friendly helpful staff and a great selection of authentic Japanese dishes to choose from in the ‘all you can eat’ $32.80 selection! We will be back! ❤️
Vanessa Ollivier
My husband and I went to Okami last night and ordered from the all you can eat menu. It was amazing! I was super full by the end but not to the point of feeling sick from eating something so heavy. The food felt so fresh, with portions so perfect to ensure minimum wastage. Service was fantastic with really friendly staff and really quick turnarounds from the moment food is ordered until that plate of deliciousness is right in front of you. Definitely recommend and will be coming back again one day. #love

3.5
There appears to be a bit of a language barrier for a couple of the waitstaff, which they make up for in friendliness.
Food tasted quite fresh, however the miso soup and chawanmushi were a little bland. The beef carpaccio was beautiful but would have been perfect with a little less dressing.
Some items were forgotten and had to be reordered a few times but overall it was a good experience.
The Gastronomist
Your money’s worth. All you can eat Japanese for 32.80 not bad at all. Good quality dishes and good selection. Service was fast and friendly. Servers were just buzzing trying to feed us. Excellent dining experience.
Larissa Mayumi
This is a good all you can eat restaurant. I’ve been there twice. The first one they told me that you had to book on weekends and I had to return other day.
In my opinion, the best was the sushi and sashimi. It was fresh and delicious, but unfortunately the sashimi is too thin.
I'm Batman
Just wanted to commend the staff, especially the wait staff during peak hour times from a dinner last night.

Let me be clear, the food isn't the best, but at least it's fresh and within a relative wait.

The wait staff ensured we weren't being ignored and did their best pacifying impatient and rude customers.

Would come back to smash those miso steaks again.
Some Bunee Loves Food
This restaurant has a buffet option for all you can eat. They are made fresh and came out pretty quickly. The variations aren't that many but still plenty of hot food and sushi/sashimi to choose from.
Howzat
Fantastic little find. Great food and fantastic saki. Staff were exceptional and made going out with the little ones easy.Footscray is the best for off the wall eats. We’ll be back .
Sue Wong
Bookings are essential as this is a popular restaurant however, I found that booking over the phone was frustrating as the lady I was speaking to wasn’t listening so I had to repeat myself several times. I would suggest maybe making notes of what the customer is saying so it’s not a memory test.
I enjoyed the variety of dishes and absolutely loved the beef tataki.
The teriyaki chicken skewers tasted a bit odd and the service was good but could be a bit more attentive considering this is an ordering style of buffet.
Bluewaves12
We went with a table of 8. Service was a bit slow at first to get menus and get orders taken but once we got that done, the food came out smoothly. Our group ordered everything on the menu at least once - the food was great! The price was amazing for the amount of food we got. We'll definitely be back again!
Thu Duong
Great buffet value. A solid Japanese eatery. I recommend coming here and spending $70 for 2 ppl rather than Chiba in Moonee Ponds. Eat jap food to your hearts content and order more if you’re still hungry ;)
Elaine Villaflor

Very yummy food, good quality, nice service. We enjoyed dining there on Saturday 1st Sep 2018. We will come again and also recommend friends to visit here.

Visited this place on Sunday with a table of 9.
You order dishes and they are 'freshly' prepared.
It was fairly busy and orders took a while to come out.I felt it was more like portion control rather than the pace of the kitchen - especially when they brought out only four cooked prawns for a 'main', sure we ordered a few plates before but this is something i could've kept eating.
I resorted to eating other items instead.
The staff couldn't keep up with what was being ordered, and didn't even bring out the steamed rice we ordered.
One of the staff members needs to smile... or shrug off that you're annoying me with your custom look.
Overall the food was reasonably nice for the price you pay.
Could I have eaten more? - Yes if they brought out the food I wanted faster...
The title 'All you can eat' is also somewhat misleading as it's not all you can eat dessert.
The green tea icecream is one TINY scoop per person and the daifuku is also one piece per person.
I left the restaurant full but not satisfied.
I will return however, maybe with a smaller table we might get better service.
Samuel Kanagaraj
Wow! These guys are quick with their service. Perfect portion size. Everything we ordered (that pretty much everything on the menu), tasted fresh and authentic, made beautifully. Went with my wife and 5 months old. I am going again. ;-)
Raisa Dsouza
I write this review as I sit here and dine... one of the worst places one could come to dine...
1. All the fried food is frozen and from bags. Smells of stale oil.
2. All the grill / hot food arrived cold on the table. Off cuts of beef / chicken with ready sauces splashed over them
3. Food came after 15 mins of ordering and that also cold.
4. Ice cream is pre scooped and frozen. So you have to struggle with it.
5. Not very clean crockery and cutlery. Finger prints all over the black plates..
A spend of 70$ and absolutely rubbish experience. I was feeling sick at the end of the dinner.
If I could give a negative rating that is what this place deserves.

First time going to okami was a nice little restaurant. Went to Okami in order to try the all you can eat menu. The service was good sometimes a little slow although found the food of high quality for the price. All the dishes we selected we delicious and portioned for the amount of people at your table. Overall I would go back to Okami again.
Michael
Great place to have a Japanese buffet . The range is quite good which covers all your jap favourite ;seaweed, sushi, sashimi. Teriyaki etc. the food service can get slow as they wait for you to get “full”
The price is quite reasonable too
The Two Little Fatties
If you have a massive sashimi or japanese food cravings, then the all you can eat dinner is the way to go. Highly recommend the sashimi platter, the miso soup and beef carpaccio.

We went on a Sunday for the first dinner session and service was a tad slow. Would probably recommend going to the later session as the food came out faster and there were less diners, which meant grabbing the server's attentionwas much easier.
Michael O
Tried this place on the weekend as I had a hankering for sashimi and all the Vietnamese places were jammed full.

Was a Lyle disappointed all round. Lacklustre service. Very thin slices of sashimi but it was fresh. They forgot one dish completely and were kind of disassociated in regards to our requests in that we had to repeat every order three times. Average bento. Not coming back.
Donita
I went to Okami but the food was far beyond my expectations. I ordered miso soup, chicken karaage, steak teriyaki. The chicken karaage came in small pieces, the steak teriyaki came cold and just pour teriyaki sauce on top. And why you guys didn’t put price on the menu?! I’m surprised that the beef steak teriyaki cost $22 for that cold simple dish with small salad only. And the staff didn’t ask whether I want receipt or not when i pay the bill. I paid $35 but still left hungry..
Lorry Lin
Been to this branch also twice. excellent food. nice service. great sashimi and octopus balls. would recommend going with groups of friends.
Tze Lim
The service is outstanding but the food is just horrible. It looks nothing like the photos and it is not Japanese! It is fake Japanese. The quality is as bad a a cheap chinese takeaway from a food court. Would have ben happier having a vietnamese pho just beside the restaurant. Never again. Compliments to the staff for the great service.
Krissy
*edit* i tried to give them another chance and went another 2 times since this review and I’ve realised that they cater for groups but not two people. The portions are next to nothing and service is terrible. We had to ask 4 times for a beer and got a “yeah yeah sure” but no one bothered to get it but charged us twice for it.

Okami was great, the food was tasty. Wasn’t sure what to expect as it was my first time going but the food was fresh and full of flavour! The only reason I’m rating a 3 star is because every time we would order (we had the all you can eat option) our order would be cancelled and we’d be waiting for nothing until we mentioned that we had been waiting quite a bit for our food. It happened multiple times and was quite frustrating when you have a 2 hour sitting period. Service wasn’t the best.
Vivian Vo
I love coming here. The dishes are cute and small, it makes it seem like you’ve eaten a lot. The staff are really nice and the wait time isn’t that long like most places.
Denise M
Japanese at its best and all you can eat at a very reasonable price. An extensive menu of tasty and super fresh food. My second visit to Okami, the food was as good if not better as first visit. This is my new go to relaxed restaurant, so many favorite dishes, don’t go past the Black Sesame Ice Cream Everything soo delicious.

Congratulations Nina, Katherine, Jack and total team, you served us promptly, professionally and always with a generous smile. Fab night all round, Highly Recommend
Thunder8621
Footscray has become a good dining out suburb for Asian cuisine without having to go into the city. Good Japanese is hard to find on a budget in the western suburbs. However, this place nails good value and reasonable food for the price. I didn’t give full marks bc they did not serve tuna sashimi to us (could be bc they ran out, or portion restrictions on groups of 2 ppl) but otherwise excellent and we will be back
JtotheG
Another wonderful place for a catch up in Footscray. I like the idea that you can order freshly prepared dishes and these dishes were some of my favourite in the Japanese cuisine. We were here for dinner and it was busy but the waiting time between dishes were reasonable. I really enjoyed the takoyaki and beef carpacio along with the squid salad. It is also a great opportunity to order dishes you wouldn't normally order if you were having a a la carte meal and have multiple serves of the same dish without worrying about additional costs.
I hope to return soon.

I heard good things about Okami Japanese Restaurant, so I did some re-search of my own before going there for dinner with my family on a Thursday night. It seemed Footscray had the best reviews, so we decided to go there despite Greensborough and Brunswick being closer options. However, we were not disappointed with our meals. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was delicious! Nothing really bad to say about it, apart from some meals taking longer to come then others. But I highly recommend going to this place, as the food and place where fabulous.
Annabel Khamly
I have been to this restaurant 3 times now, and I have also visited the Brunswick store. Each time my family and I have eaten the $30 (now $32.90) buffet dinner option 7:45-9:45. All times have been different, food is always average, but this time is was pleasantly nicer than usual! There was a huge booking in the restaurant (over 50 people) but the food still came out fast. However, after 1 hour the service became very slow and the waiters/waitresses kept forgetting our order. And we waited over 20minutes just for our ice cream, and when it arrived it was evidently melted. The staff were so focussed on cleaning up the large booking, the smaller tables were forgotten. We could’ve left 30mins earlier, and been out of their way, if they had just served us. Otherwise, good food and value.
Daniel Hill
Very helpful staff, fresh cooked at a more than reasonable price would recommend going for a nice simple night out. A very big selection of food that I've never had thought to try until I was there.
Anakmalaysia
We came for buffet yesterday that was really good. We came around 8:00pm and the restaurant was busy. We easy been take to our table and get the order quickly.
First round we order some entree and comes really fast.
The raw beef was amazing, and the dumpling are nice too. After we order some main, I loved the teriyaki beef which the beef was very soft and tasty. The cooked prawn I almost can’t stop eating. Lol

The service was very nice too, the staff get all our order and come fast. Can’t believe they looked so busy around.

Of course will back next time, I will bring all my family members to here.
Marlie Darmawan
Food was better than expected and service was really good too. Went for the all you can eat on a monday night and they brought the food out quickly. The best dish was the beef capacio, but the tempura here is quite average. Would definitely come back here again
Al
Overall the restaurant was medicore - for an all-you-can-eat restaurant there aren’t as many options to choose from. The dishes came out promptly and staff allowed us to continue ordering as we go. The quality of the food was quite good. The staff’s customer service could be improved as there were many dishes on our table that were finished and ready to be taken away however there weren’t many staff around and available.
Swimglennswim
We ordered from the Al late cart menu. 3 dishes with a side of rice. They didn’t have enough rice so we said we would for the rice to cook. ( advised it would take 10-15!minuted) Then after 20 minutes the rice appeared without any mains. Then 5 minutes later one main arrived and then 20 minutes later the rest of our order arrived. During this time other tables where served. They can to the party and didn’t charge for 2 meals. But really after 1:20 minutes all three meals should of been free.
Tricia
Outstanding for and service for the price. Couldn't believe it! All you can eat for $32.80 per person, what great value! The service is impeccable. Attentive, polite, friendly and fast. Super fast! A lady at the next table dropped her chopsticks, as she stood up to pick it up from the ground, the waiter was there next to her with a clean pair! The food was really good too. The beef carpaccio was heavenly. Well done!! Looking forward to the next trip. Will wear stretchier pants then.
Jessica
Nice place dinner at here. The food is awesome And, thanks to this staff that she recommended best food for us especially suhsi roll and tempura. I will come back again
Corey Busuttil
All of the negatives that I’ve seen through the reviews were non existent when I arrived here. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the food came out nearly instantly! The photos of well presented food that you see on their website and on zomato is surprisingly exactly what you get when you’re there.

The food was super fresh and tasty! And I was really happy with the selection and how everything tasted

Super surprised and delighted! A real gem actually
Daniel
The food was not the best, and the service was slow. We wanted to try all the dishes so opted for the all you can eat menu. As expected, the food came out slowly, and the quality was standard.
Evelyn
The service was horrible. We came a little under half an hour earlier than our initial booking and they told us we couldn’t be seated, the restaurant was visibly empty, but they made us wait outside the store for half an hour just so they could “set up the tables” for us. When we were seated staff immediately took our orders but it took our food an awful long time to come, some were even forgotten we had to remind them a tremendous amount of times but still we didn’t get our food. In the end we just told them to cancel it.

We are not satisfied with the service of the place and the food was barely satisfying, most of it were too dry or too chewy.

Deofy
I will keep this extremely brief. This was not the best restaurant to eat at. The service provided for us was not that good. We had ordered Teriyaki Skewers and had waited for over half an hour. We finally reminded them about it after seeing a someone order them and receiving them almost immediately after they had ordered. The ice cream was frozen on the small plate that they were served on instead of being freshly scooped. Staff were easily annoyed by our requests after we had reminded them about the dishes that THEY had forgot to give to us. Overall, it was average as the food was acceptable.
Jun Wei
High score for 70% of their food. Don’t like the rest of 30%. Consider the price I have paid, I would say I am 100% satisfied. I think the raw beef dish is the best Japanese style raw beef in the whole Melbourne, even better than those $200 per head restaurants.
Justin Jervies
Friday night 8.30 kitchen was shutting within an hour, dishes were served very quick, the sashimi was fresh and tasty. So many dishes so much nice food. Didnt like the ocky balls vut everything else was great. Byo big plus for me. Place was spotless one guy was even scrubbing table legs.
Cant say its the best ive had but for the price its amazing!
BUT WHERE IS THE CHILLI OIL??? IT'S A STAPLE!!! HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE IT????
Lyonee Dang
Friendly service and decent menu, wish there was more sashimi on the menu. Good taste in the dishes, however the green tea ice cream was a let down. Overall will come for dinner again.
Paul Tucker
Went last night with a large group for the $30ph banquet, and everyone enjoyed Okami. Tried almost everything off the menu, and while there were a few misses there were some definite highlights. Miso and Teriyaki steak were delicious, meat was melt in your mouth. Favourites were the Chicken Karaage and Katsu, absolutely sensational Seafood tempura and prawn gyoza nice as well. Fried rice wasn't especially sticky, making chopsticks difficult. Teriyaki Ika and fried chicken udon rated a pass. Service was very friendly but slow, especially the speed of some dishes coming out. Don't be frightened to order plenty each time, because the plates are relatively small, and if your sharing will go very very quick. Think of one plate being an ample small taste for two. And you will need to call staff over when ready for more. Biggest suprise of the night was how much I enjoyed green tea ice-cream! Mind blown. For the money, hard to go wrong at Okami, a definite thumbs up.
Ava Wang
Great Okami!
We been here on Friday night last week, that was an amazing time.
We got a Groupon voucher for 4 people and we booked for their 7:45pm sitting. It was so busy I could see all the staff quickly walking around, but they are all nice and friendly, the service was perfect.
The food was nice too, we love the beef tataki, dumpings, fried rice and eggplant, my friend ate many plates! All the food was not so big but it's good to be like this cause we could choose more we want.
We loved this so nice place and of course will back soon.
Zelds
Came in tonight on a Saturday and the restaurant was empty. Hosts refused to seat TWO people with a clearly empty restaurant especially when we were looking forward to eating here. Disappointed.
Alice In Wonderland X Icebear
TRY:
*the ikayaki - takes ages to arrive but is fairly good quality; we got lucky and had a total melt in your mouth experience
*the beef carpaccio - thinly sliced beef with a tangy dressing! This was papabears favourite dish
*ordering the sushi last as it is always consistently the first dish to arrive no matter when you order it
ASK:
*for the dressings/kewpie mayo on the side as they do go overboard with some of the dishes and just slap that stuff on like no tomorrow
Gwen Kong
Food was average. Not the greatest. Have had better at other Okami restaurants. Was dissapointed but it was a Groupon All You Can Eat. Can't expect too much.
Jin Jau Liau
There was a variety of food on offer for the 1.5 hour seating of buffet session which included sushi, sashimi, grilled steak, takoyaki, spring rolls, salads, tempura, ice-cream etc. The food was ok for the price.
Andrew Turner
VIC 3011Okami appeared in the place of 1+1 Dumpling Noodles a while back, so when I spotted a groupon deal for their all you can eat option, we decided the time had come to pay a visit. We booked for the 7:45 sitting on a Friday evening, the alternative being 5:30pm. On arrival a couple of minutes early there were people waiting inside and out in the cool winter air.
Danny Nguyen
Selection of food wasn't that broad, however price was very reasonable. Staff were friendly and food came out relatively quick. Highly suggest the steak.
Rice Ball
This is a decently priced all you can eat restaurant and there are some stand out dishes. My favourite dishes were the tempura, the teriyaki chicken skewers, teriyaki steak, seaweed salad and ice creams. The other items were nice too. The sashimi was somewhat fresh and takoyaki were really creamy and nice. The gyoza tasted like Costco packaged ones...not the best. Miso soup lacked miso flavours. You really get what you pay for tbh like you wouldn't expect mind blowingly fresh sashimi here, Overall it's really nice here! I want to try more next time.
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

Okami is a Japanese restaurant that has an all you can eat offer where you can order a constant stream of food for an hour and a half. We were keen to check it out and came on a Saturday night with hungry bellies and will share some highlights from the experience. One of the best starters on offer was the eggplant. This consisted of a slice of eggplant that was fried and drizzled with a house made sauce. This was a great eggplant dish – despite the lack of batter, it was still quite crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside.

Thank you for everyone in this restaurant of these two years!
I think I may the very front customer, I first went here about year and half ago, then I loved this!
How to image we can get as much as I want about Japanese Food? No way, this is the first one and the best one.
I loved the raw beef, I could always got more than five serves! How did they made the sauce? I asked them they didn't tell me :)
Also the teriyaki beef, the squid, fried noodles, rice, oh they are all perfect.
I had been there many many times and all the staff always friendly and cute, sometime if not busy I was happy to talk to them, they were from different countries, but some of them don't have a good English language, they need practice more lol.

Anyway I can't wait for a next appointment.
Just give some hints about my experience
- Always Book! Weekend they were so busy.
- don't order too much, waste is not good :)
- they can't have the fish slice called sashimi only, so if you don't like too much rice, may try something else.
- ice cream was beautiful, I like the green tea one.

Go and enjoy it!
Kelvin Phong
We got a scoopon deal online and we used it yesterday, even though it was expired, the friendly staff allow us to use that.
All the food was in the small dishes, it was very good so we can choose a lots of different food.
I like the chicken bites the most, it was so nice with mayonnaise. Also the dumplings were good as well.
On Saturday they looks so busy have too many people inside, the food was nice, services was fast and friendly, everything looks very good.
I will definitely come back with more of my friend. If you are a hunger person can eat a lot!
Choose this one!
Joanne Nguyen
For all you can eat at the price, it's pretty good. Would go again. The range is not as big as i thought it would be but i didnt mind that. The steak was the most enjoyable. The chicken skewers were plain however. I wanted to eat more however was very full.
M ONE
Pretty bad experience all-round with these guys. Chicken katsu on rice came without any sort of sauce at all. I'm not sure if they forgot or just don't serve it with anything but it was literally just a fried cutlet on plain rice. Nigiri quality is on-par with your average food-court sushi takeaway, the salmon was passable, the tuna was disturbingly mushy. They also forgot our drinks but that may have been the fault of the Deliveroo driver. This is not a place to go to if you want even a moderately good Japanese food experience.

Having been to the Okami all-you-can-eat in Wantirna I must say this Footscray one is even better! I love the variety and the food were really fresh (the salmon, the sushi, the beef carpaccio). I loooove the miso eggplant too. Don't expect the food to be absolutely mindblowing but with less than $30 you can get a good variety of food, I think it's really worth it :)

If you want quality food then I don't suggest this place. The look of the salmon sushi was pale and the taste represented how it looked, bland and not great. I didn't eat any of the other sushi in fear of the freshness and the thought of being up all night with raging food poising put me off. The chicken yakitori was the worst I have ever eaten and couldn't finish the chicken on the skewer. The gyoza were not great and the sea weed salad was ok. The beef carpaccio, chicken katsu and matcha ice cream were the nicest things on the menu. I certainly didn't eat $30 worth of food and I won't be back due to the quality of the food. I do not recommend this place.

Ordered miso soup. Bland- I think it was the daiso miso packets?? Beef carpaccio was good. Nigiri was standard, but lacking variety. Tempura and takoyaki was standard. Overall not amazing but not bad either. Girls serving were inexperience, had to shout to get any attention even on a not so busy night.

Positives first: the beef carpaccio is deeeelish. Ice cream was good too. Other than that, it was... okay, I guess. Even with the $30 deal I don't think it was worth it. You're better off at a sushi train, where there's more variety. Won't be coming back 😓

I had been with my friends to this restaurant last week, and we come back last night because it was beautiful!

Weekend always very busy an we been seated beside the flowers, funny it was same table as last week.
We almost try everything on the menu in these two weeks, around $29 we can't expect high quality of everything was perfect.
Beef tataki was nice, good flavor with nice and fresh beef.
Tempura was a bit oily, I had to peel the batter.
Dumplings were nice, I like the vegetable dumplings.
Teriyaki beef and miso beef was good.
Fried Noodle taste too strong, very salty.
Sushi platter was takes long for waiting but salmon and tuna all fresh and good.
Also many food are good and fresh, ice cream was very good I asked a lot.
Staff are nice and lovely, good services and fast, my son was allergic in egg and the staff gently asked us and show everything which my son can't eat, so nice and my son was happy.

I would like to ask my friends to come again, cheap and nice.
Queen Of Food
Not bad food for $30 but lacks that 'next level' taste which would make you want to come back running. The edamame lacked salt and tasted like they were not fresh. The vegetable dumplings were nice and had a good flavour. The fried rice would have been better if the vegetables used weren't from a frozen packet. All in all not a bad restaurant but you can tell the food is on the cheap side. One thing they definitely need to work on is the service - it was terrible! The staff barely acknowledged us and we had to constantly flag them down to be served.

Edit: I called up on a wednesday to make a reservation for a 7:30 slot. We came starving, anticipating to binge on tasty japanese! Our favourites was the carpaccio, the takoyaki, sashimi platter, miso steak and fried chicken! Least favourites were the vege gyoza, the teriyaki chicken and beef. Both had black sesame ice cream which was ok. Flavour was lacking and icy rather than creamy. Would return to stuff ourselves again!

Ordered Okami for dinner through a delivery app and was pretty happy with it overall! Sashimi platter was fresh and good quality! California and tempura prawn roll were yummy, prawn gyoza were ok and the takoyaki was good too.. although soggy but i had to expect that anyhow. Im sure they would've been nicer had we dined in. Will definitely go in for all you can eat!

This restaurant Change a Lot!!!!!

First time I came to this place with my friend we quiet feel not good, not because of the food or service, the decoration was terrible, be honesty I was a fan about Japanese food, I was been to the place in Hampton Okami before, that was far but I love that.

Anyway I need to say the change about this place. In a good way, look at my photo!

Now let talk about the food.

First I need to say I love the beef tataki. Yes I love it!
The tempura was very nice as well, not too much batter and was hot and tasty.
Cold soba is the one my friend loved it. She finish two plates of it and said she love the sauce and soba.
Beef teriyaki was nice to be medium, I don't like the well done cooked, both the teriyaki sauce and miso sauce were nice.
Chicken Karaage was juicy and tasty, with the mayonnaise we can say it was one of the best.

The good point they got Gluten Free food, that helps my boyfriend a lot, he looks happy when saw the menu.

Service was nice, good smile and quick service, one of the staff was asked us the feedback friendly when we pay. Good to them.

Oh don't forget the black Sesame ice cream, that was really nice, I love something sweet.

We will return with my friend, thank you for good change of this place.

I was rather hesitant to be dining at Okami, as all you can eat restaurants aren’t usually my kind of thing, as I generally minimise displays of excess. The restaurant has a few branches all over the ‘burbs and for $29.80 stuff-yourself-until-you-can’t-breathe, it’s pretty appealing and was one of the more pumping places on Hampton Street, Footscray.

Was walking by with a friend and got drawn in by the colourful window advertising. We managed to get a table on Saturday evening without a booking and were pleasantly surprised by the quick and friendly service. Food came out more quicker than the time it took us to go through the menu. We were there for nearly 4 hours and we learnt to only order a little at a time or else there'll be no room on the table for all the dishes. Food was good, with the stand out dishes being the beef carpaccio and soba noodles. Both are cold dishes but were really tasty. So tasty we ordered seconds. Beef chicken dishes were solid but would've been better with rice. We skipped the sushi because we didn't want rice or sashimi for dinner. Despite being lactose intolerant, I had the black sesame ice cream for dessert.... Totally worth it. All in all a great experience. I'm glad I didn't hop on zomato and read the reviews before deciding whether to try this place because if I did, I probably wouldn't have tried it out. Will definitely come back here for another feed.

Absolutely love this place, been 3 times last week & going again tomorrow. Delightful service, delicious food! So glad I found them, can't get enough!

We had a variety of very good food and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall it was very good value for money. We will be back again.

Worst Japanese all you can eat I have ever had. We tried a lot of different dishes on the menu but none of them were good. Not tasty and bad food quality. We have asked the staff to follow up our order of sushi and sashimi platter for a few times, but it came only before we were about to leave. What a 'nice' way to prevent people to order sashimi again and again. Never go there again.

Wow! My family and I came here for the All You Can Eat Dinner Buffet, and boy was it amazing! I mean, for under $30 a head, it's a pretty damn well feed!

I think we ordered almost every single item on the menu. Surprisingly, there were quite a lot of vegetarian options available too!

A few of my favourites were:
Soba noodles - these had a delicious peanut sauce
Grilled eggplant - the sauce was sweet and caramel-y and the eggplant was cooked so soft it melted in your mouth!
Seaweed salad - it was sweet, sesame-y and just super refreshing
Black sesame ice cream - my family absolutely loved this, they said it was probably the best black sesame ice cream they've had (unfortunately I couldn't have it as it contained dairy)

It was a delicious and satisfying Japanese dinner, at a pretty cheap price too! Would definitely recommend:)

Under $30 for all you can eat Japanese. Food is delicious, only downside was we were given a drinks menu and when we wanted to order wine the staff said we couldn't as they don't have a liquor license yet.

Decent food. Slow service. Very good value for money. Good for a slow, casual dinner out without expectations. Consider ordering a few things at a time to avoid long periods between dishes.

When I heard that there was going to be an all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurant in Footscray, I was excited. It was exactly the type of restaurant the place needed.

For abit under $30, you can eat as much as your stomach can hold. The food ranges from the traditional sushi to miso soup. Although the portion sizes weren't the biggest, the dishes had a good taste to them with the right amount of flavour and texture. One of my favourite menu items was the takoyaki. It was made well and tastied just as good as in other Japanese restaurants. A dish that caught me by surprise was the fried rice, it tasted sweet yet was also abit spicy.

Overall, Okami restaurant is a great and affordable option for those who are after an all-you-can-eat place in the West.

For $30, your range of selection is good. The portion sizes are medium size; bigger than Koko but the quality is obviously not as great. Service needs some improvement, but nevertheless, a comfortable dinner. Favourites include: fried chicken udon, teriyaki ika, teriyaki steak and black sesame ice-cream. Drinks are definitely overpriced, just like every other restaurant.

Went here a few weeks ago with my partner. Only recently opened we were looking forward to finding a decent local Japanese place.

We had the all you can eat option; miso soup was OK, sushi and sashimi was passable but not sensational, tempura prawns and vegies were OK but not great, terriyaki chicken skewers also could have been better. Rice was OK.

We also had vegetable gyoza and these were tasty but a bit oozy. We had green tea, black sesame and vanilla ice cream - due to the freezer malfunctioning the ice cream was a bit icy.

Service was quick, polite and efficient. The place could do with a bit more decor to give it more of a Japanese feel.

I was walking past when I saw this Japanese cafe. Sushi was on special for $2 during happy hour which appeared to run for 4 hours haha

So I thought I'd try this place and I'm glad I did. I had a terryaki chicken and a crispy chicken sushi.

They were both fresh and tasted delicious. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and this was a rare find but what a great place.

I'll be coming back here again and again for my $2 sushi hahaha

And they offer a deal of 2 sushi and a Miao soup for $5. A total bargain!
