Review Ha Long Restaurant - Footscray

Perfect!👌Almost all the food we had was delish. Spring rolls, fried rice, chicken, beef, pork, veggie and noodle dishes were freshly cooked and with good portion sizes. A must try if you’re into Asian (Vietnamese, international) cuisines (on a sweeter note with some of the dishes which my tastebud loved nonetheless).

Within central Footscray, you are spoilt with choices when it comes to Vietnamese food/restaurants. This one located at the corner of Nicholson St is inside a triangular building at the intersection giving it a high profile presence. The interior decor is modern and clean. We had an office lunch there recently and service is prompt. Food is good, and since it was a gathering did not a chance to take photos of all the different orders!

Situated right at a busy intersection of Nicholson street, this Vietnamese restaurant have been around for some time. The food can be a hit and miss for some dishes. The broken rice and black pepper beef were excellent. The beef was soft and the pepper sauce was on point. The dry Noodle had a very overpowering sweet chilli taste. The fried rice was just okay although generous in portion. Food - 7 Service - 7 Vibe - 7 Price - $$

This is definitely the best Vietnamese restaurant for rice vermicelli. Very authentic and healthy. The servicing is huge. Super tasty. Unlikely other restaurant, they served considerably good amount of fresh veggie. So made up the food are very healthy and balance. Price is very reasonable too. Staff are also friendly and helpful. Seating is very comfortable. This restaurant consider medium size and can set for few big groups. They also have outside seating area. This restaurant location is very convenient with public transport, within walking distance from train station. Also plenty of parking nearby.

Came on a Sunday, there were a few tables but not too busy. We didn't get service till we asked 10 mins later. Then the food came about 45 mins about we sat down. To top that off, the young guy was rude about it and said they were understaffed. But worst of all, the food was tasteless. Never again. Do not recommend at all.

Unfortunately didn't have the best experience here. Ordered veggie spring rolls, they looked great but once we started to eat them noticed they smelt and tasted sour. Mentioned to staff and they took them back to kitchen, no explanation given. Also ordered veg fried rice and mixed veg with tofu. The tofu in both these dishes had the watery texture of tofu that had been frozen and thawed. I would expect an Asian restaurant to have fresh tofu/ingredients. Was disappointed as I was hoping it would be a great restaurant.

Very authentic and cheap Vietnamese restaurant in Footscray. Service is very good and food comes out quick. Very satisfied with our meal. Ordered Vietnamese sour soup steam boat and Chicken coleslaw. Yuuuum!!! Will come back and try other dishes!

Very friendly and kind staff. I ordered deep fried crispy chicken rings with fish sauce. It's rather salty but it comes with rice so all good.

Ha Long
Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio and Com Ga.

Recently re-renovated, nice, clean and friendly environment with a generous proportionate amount of meat to rice/noodle ratio to satisfy. A recommended restaurant for casual dining.

#food #foodporn #rice #noodles #footscray #melbourne #vietnamese #halong

I have never been to a restaurant with such bad service. We were seated at a table but after that everything went down south. The server ignored us. They didn't even give us a menu we had to ask for one. Everyone else who came after us were given a menu. We waited to have our order taken but the same server only served the people who came in after us. We got very annoyed and decided to leave and go to a different restaurant. We are never coming back to this restaurant again.

Wonderful ! Had a great small dinner!

I will be back with a few friends and hopefully we will be back for a longer time

Almost tasted like I was in Hanoi and could smell the streets

Staff are lovely and welcoming.
We had 3 dishes. Chicken and snowpea. Sweet and sour chicken. Combination beef and chicken rice noodle soup.

Chicken and snowpea and the sweet and sour chicken; thr chicken was soggy. The snowpeas were saturated in oil and the sweet and sour was all soggy flour.

The soup was the only redeeming dish of the table.

Vinh Ha Long is a hidden treasure in Footscray and definitely deserves more recognition for its authentic and delicious Vietnamese food. The thick rice noodle soup, rice vermicelli w/ grilled pork, and broken rice w/ grilled pork must be our favourites from this restaurant!

The staff are always so friendly and accommodating whenever we visit the restaurant, which makes it even easier for us to keep wanting to come back every week!

If you work or live nearby here. You should definitely give this a place. Super friendly and attentive staff. You should try the broken rice and beef pho and price is very reasonable. Highly recommended

Went here on a cold and wet evening (been here previously as well).Ordered the beef pho and bun cha (with grilled pork and spring rolls). The place was pretty empty apart from what I can assume were the owners own family / friends. Not a very friendly atmosphere to outsiders - felt like we were unwanted guest.
Atmosphere 1/5.
The food was actually pretty tasty. The spring rolls were nice and crisp and the grilled beef was also done well.
The beef pho was too sweet on the palate and just soup without much noodle or beef.
Food 4/5.The portions of the food were somewhat small and the pricing slightly dearer than some other Vietnamese restaurants in Footscray (there's plenty of them).Value 2/5.
From the get go it was odd walking in and getting seated. Despite the restaurant being fairly empty the staff were preoccupied doing other things. We were seated near the door where a massive cold draft would hit us every time it was opened. They should've seated us somewhere else - plenty of options as it was that empty. Tea served to us cold - had to request for hot tea. Took so long to be served that we almost left.
Service 1/5.
Return factor is here as I really like buncha; the only other place I know if Footscray didn't agree with my stomach.

Quick service (on a Thursday evening), lovely staff and the food was very good! Two vegetarians and one meat eater. My veg friend and I shared salt and pepper tofu (so delicious, perfect texture) and spinach and beancurd with garlic sauce (also delicious). The two dishes went well together. Can't remember the meat dish but he also loved it!

Tried this place on a week night after work.

Walked and there was a bit of a weird smell in there and the ambience of the place was destroyed by the screaming kids (presumably the owners kids). However I will base my review purely on the food and service.

Ordered some prawn spring rolls, satay beef with rice and the crispy chicken egg noodle soup. The spring rolls were nice and fresh and the satay beef was good. The egg noodle soup was excellent. Well seasoned and tasty broth with an abundance of egg noodles. The crispy chicken was the only let down as it was a little cold in some sections.

Service was good and fairly quick, no complaints there.

Will be back!

Easy to find location in a busy area. Food service is quick and the food itself is tasty. Lacks a bit of ambience, but great for a quick bite at a reasonable price.

We wanted pho for dinner so decided to head to Footscray. My partner picked a Vietnamese restaurant from Zomato but we took the wrong turn and saw Vinh Ha Long first. The restaurant is at the corner of Nicholson and Barkly St. and it looked clean, spacious and welcoming. So we decided to walk in to give it a try. We ordered the Hanoi spring rolls as entree to share and a beef pho each (raw sliced beef, sliced beef and meatballs). Vinh serves complimentary Chinese tea in a thermo flask on each table but our tea was cold. We asked for hot tea and the waiter was happy to give us a new one flask. Service was quite fast and our food arrived pretty quickly. The Hanoi spring rolls tasted a bit porky and could use a bit more flavour. The pho was quite generous in serving and the broth was flavourful. I thought the last few reviews on Vinh Ha Long was too harsh and I’m glad it turned out to be quite a good experience. We wouldn’t mind returning to try the other dishes as they have quite an exhaustive menu!

Terrible. Salt and pepper fried chicken was tasteless and really oily and the plain rice tasted fishy. I’ve been to many Vietnemese restaurants, this was the worst. Decor is the only nice thing about the place.

Worst experience my friends and I have ever had eating out by far. The staff were clueless and did little to help after they spilled hot soup from the pho that I ordered. Food was bland and had no flavour AND it took over 40 minutes for any food to come out! Would not recommend anybody come to this restaurant would rather starve.

How very disappointing. I was over charged & couldn't eat one of the dishes at all as it was twice cooked chicken that was horrible in taste & texture. The vegetables were cooked to mush & the sauce was over oily & not fresh. The vermicelli was thick like spaghetti noodles & wet/over cooked. Not one redeeming feature.

Great to see the place back under its original management. Food was great, and the service was very friendly. We ordered spring rolls, grilled chicken w rice and veg in oyster sauce. All came out quickly, and tasted great. Very pleased with this place. Certainly recommend for a casual Vietnamese experience.

When we moved to Footscray the original Ha Long restaurant occupied the building on the corner or Nicholson and Droop streets, which morphed into Sen a few years later. Now the former name has returned. The fit out has been upgraded again and has resulted in a clean modern feel, with the re-assuring presence of boxes of tissues and condiments on the tables!

We ordered rice paper rolls, chicken with black bean sauce, Vietnamese pancakes with pork, and egg plant with salt and pepper. The chicken was undercooked, rubbery, and most certainly a cheap cut. The pork was 90% fat and also undercooked. The pancake itself was burned on the outside and undercooked on the inside. And the rice paper rolls did not come with the staple dipping sauces. To top it all off, the food took 30+ minutes to arrive. Would absolutely NOT recommend this place amongst all of the other great Vietnamese food in Footscray. Avoid if you can help it.

Somehow the food came out rather slowly eventhough there weren't many people. But that aside i think its a pretty good restaurant. We ordered grilled beef with vermicelli and crispy chicken on tomato rice. The grilled beef was great and the size was pretty generous. The other dish though was a bit of hit and miss, the crispy chicken was good but the tomato rice tasted like normal rice. The drinks however were disappointing. The mango nectar was way too watery and bland. The same with the avocado smoothies, i could see avocado pieces but it tasted way too watery.
